Why did my microwave stop working?
Picture this. You just put a bag of popcorn in your microwave for your Friday night movie, and all of a sudden, the bag stops popping, and your microwave shuts down.
There are a few reasons as to why your microwave suddenly stopped working. And before you call in a technician, check for these few things.
- Check the breaker or fuse: Just as you would for any appliance that stops working, check if the fuse or breaker has been tripped or blown. If that has happened, you will need to replace the fuse and reset the breaker switch.
- Check the microwave fuse: Microwaves come with fuses inside the units. If something is wrong with the fuse, the microwave will not work and needs to be replaced.
- A faulty door switch could be the culprit: Microwaves are equipped with many door switches which lock when the door is closed. If the switch is defective, the microwave will not work. If it's not the switch, then it could also be the spring-loaded door hook. Worn-out springs or latches will prevent the door from closing.
- Microwave won't cook: If the unit turns on but doesn't heat up, there could be an issue with the magnetron, and because of the complexity of this part, it's best to call in a technician to look at it.
A broken appliance can be frustrating, and while some issues can be easily repaired, there are some cases when it's better to call in a technician. They can determine whether or not the appliance can be repaired or needs replacing.
