Why Isnt My Refrigerator Cooling
Posted On: April 23, 2022

Has your refrigerator lost its frosty touch? Are you afraid all your food is going to spoil? There’s no need to worry, take a deep breath and relax. When your unit refuses to stay cold, immediate actions need to be taken before all your perishables go bad. Some problems can be solved with a bit of maintenance, but it’s probably best to leave it to the professionals. Today we’ll be looking at some simple solutions to a refrigerator that isn’t cooling.

Thermostat
Have you considered checking the thermostat? It may seem obvious, but sometimes the dial gets set too low, causing your unit’s temperature to rise. This could have been adjusted by children or house guests fiddling around with your thermostat. Numbers on the dial are confusing to most people, which makes them turn it in the wrong direction. Higher levels will make your fridge colder.

Dirty Condenser Coils
The condenser coil releases the heat from inside the refrigerator. This process isn’t as effective when the coils are dirty. Make sure you clean them once per year, or even more if there’s a lot of dust or pet hair scattered around your kitchen. Thankfully, condenser coils are relatively easy to clean, just use a small vacuum or long brush.

Condenser Fan Motor is Broken
There also might be a problem with the condenser fan motor. This part works by drawing air over the condenser coils to cool them down. Without a proper fan, your unit could easily overheat and not function properly. You can find the condenser fan motor underneath the refrigerator, however, if it’s defective, you’ll almost certainly need professional repair.

Blocked Vents
Your refrigerator regulates air temperature through a series of internal and external vents. In order to maintain a cool, consistent temperature, it’s vital that these vents remain open. People can accidentally block these vents either when storing food or placing objects around the refrigerator, like grocery bags. Blockages can also come in the form of dirt or spoiled food, so be sure to keep your refrigerator as clear as possible.
