Purchased new Carrier Infinity System for my home in July 2010. The system was great until heating season. When we began using the heat, we started noticing a bad odor. I contacted the dealer who installed the system and they said it was just that the system was new. A few months later, with no change in the odor, I contacted them again and they came out and told me I must have a dead animal in the duct work. Not! The odor was not constant like it would be if it were a dead animal.Then cooling season rolled around and no problems. The system worked great. Now heating season again and again, the odor was back. Called dealer again and they came out and said they couldnt smell it. Gave it a couple weeks and called dealer again (when it was very cold outside). Finally, the technician admitted noticing the smell, but had no idea what it was. He contacted the regional Carrier representative and was told that it was Dirty Sock Syndrome. He recommended cleaning coils with Listerine and installing a UV light.Dealer wanted to charge nearly $700 to install a light to get rid of an odor that I shouldnt have in the first place. It didnt exist with my old unit. From what I have read on the Internet, the UV light will likely not solve the problem anyway.I contacted Carrier and am getting the run-around that it was my environment that was causing the problem. Nothing had changed in my environment. Same environment with old system = no foul odor. Same environment with new system = foul odor. Conclusion was that there was something with the new equipment that was not getting along with the same environment thus the only thing that had changed was the equipment.Carrier, to this point, has refused to help. This was a known issue that these manufacturers were aware of and have been aware of, but refused to warn consumers about or correct the problem. In my mind, we need a Class Action suit filed in defense of the consumers in this country that are being taken for a ride by the HVAC manufacturers.

All of the units run off of batteries first which are energized by street power and generator power. Ill keep everyone posted on how this evolves. We purchased our air conditioner in 2007 and have had problems 4 out of 5 seasons. Living in Michigan, we basically have only run our air conditioner for a little over a year now. The 1st year, a bad sensor had to be replaced; 2nd year ran okay; 3rd year, it ran constantly and hardly cooled down our home. At the beginning of the 4th year, it ran out of freon and was recharged, and last year it ran out of freon again. The installer found a pinhole in the coil and it had to be replaced. Our installer/servicer was very helpful and worked with us to help keep labor costs down but, Carrier should stand behind their product and cover all labor for warranty parts. I shouldnt have to pay labor charges on factory defective parts. Its very frustrating to have purchased a top-of-the-line unit, only to feel like we ended up with a lemon and have little recourse but to accept Carriers less than satisfactory limited warranty. I get the feeling Carrier couldnt care less about the little guy, once a sale is made. At least the car manufacturers cover labor and parts for warranty work. Purchased CARRIER ocean environment, 17.5 SEER Heat Pumps and air handlers for new home. During annual maintenance of my 4 systems, it was determined that one subject unit had leaked all refrigerant. Had to refill at a cost of $550. Maintenance company ordered a new coil under warranty. It took 5 weeks to deliver. Another $500 of refrigerant and $700 in labor was required to make the repair. CARRIER had a known problem with the coils. The lack of stock and the long fulfillment time are logically related. Several false ship promises further belie this contention. Carrier should have made me whole for all expenses. They did not exhibiting lack of concern for the customer and their brand.

Luckily, I was able to find that it was just a run capacitor, after shocking the **out of myself, as I am not a certified HVAC guy, but it was back up and running. Over the next few years, I noticed an extreme amount of rust water coming from the drain line. Now, the A/C is broke again, this time compressor is locked up. I spent $300 to have tech come out and tell me this. He also told me that Carrier has a ten year warranty on parts. Wrong again, I talked to a manager and they said 5 years. In 09, they went to ten after the new and improved coils and compressors. The funny thing is she told me that 5- 10 years is normal life expectancy. Are you kidding me? Im a flooring contractor and if I told that to my customers, I would never get any business. Needless to say, I have a 6.5 year old house with a HVAC system that is not working and Carrier reps believe this is okay. There needs to be a class action law suit against them.

When my Trane heat pump finally expired after more than 20 years, I made the mistake of hiring a company, Bryant Heating and Cooling, which installs Carrier units. Within a year, the defrost board went out. After a few more years the compressor broke, Carrier replaced it under warranty, but Bryant wanted $1500 labor (about 2 hours work) to install it, but finally reduced the cost to $750. After installing the compressor, a valve in the heat exchange unit in the garage was found to be defective. A year later, the unit lost pressure, which was traced to a leaking canister next to the compressor (Im not sure what its called). The technician convinced Carrier to supply the part, but labor again was going to be $1500, but was reduced to $325. DONT EVER BUY A CARRIER! If I have any more problems, Im going to bite the bullet and replace this piece of crap which I can never depend on.

Yes, it cost us more than buying a regular window type air conditioner but because this Carrier split type has the inverter technology, it is more energy efficient therefore lower electric bills for us. Carrier Comfort Series unit - Puron. We are extremely dissatisfied customers. $4,500 was spent on a brand new, energy efficient air conditioner. We were told from the sales man that this was the top of the line product and will save time and money. We had this new unit installed on Aug. 11, 2014 and when we went downstairs to check it on Sept. 6, 2014 because it wasnt dropping the temperature in the home sufficiently, we saw that there was water all surrounding the unit. In +30 degree weather we called the company to say we wanted it fixed and they couldnt send out a worker for a few days. When a worker came out he worked for 2 hours that night and 4 hours the next day, he spent this time cleaning up the mess that was left by the installers. He told us when he had done all that he was able to that the unit was defective and the company was aware of 20 other units that were defective this summer of the same model. Apparently the evaporator coil was faulty on it. Waiting for the sales man to call back. So far no call. Not happy.

AC unit is less than 10 years old and per Iceman I have had 4 leaks, needed 3 evaporator coils and possible condenser coils all of which is not covered under the warranty. Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. I need a new thermostat and cant get one because Iceman cant diagnose the correct problem because the thermostat is under warranty and I can only get a new thermostat from a Carrier Dealer and Iceman wont get me one.

Three trips and the company assured me they had corrected all items. In just under three years, cooling coils on both units of the two-unit system failed and had to be replaced. Replacement coils were furnished under warranty but the bill was $1500. I hired another company to do an analysis of system. Based on this inspection, I filed a formal complaint with state licensing bureau. Finally, about $4,000 worth of corrective action was performed at no charge. Corrections included the installation of an additional return air ducting that was not installed but was on original design.Well, now 3 years and 5 months later, the cooling coil on one unit has again failed leaking out all Puron over a weekend. Carrier will not provide replacement coil under warranty. Work is being completed today and Id guess the bill will be around $1500. So HVAC repairs of $3000+ in 6 years on new home has to be considered unacceptable quality.

It stops around 81-82 degrees even if we set it to 76 or lower, especially for hot summer days when outside is over 90 degrees. We had Carrier dealers come to check and perform maintenance many times but no help. They said the a/c is fine but might be inside programming problem or controller problem which they cant fix and ask us to contact Carrier. Every time when we called Carrier, we were told to go to local dealers but local Carrier dealer asks us to go to Carrier. We are trying to find out if Carrier can have someone who can run a thorough diagnosis to figure out what is going on but dont know who we can approach. The a/c problem we noticed is a/c doesnt run enough time and stop (sometimes just 1 minutes) even it is far away from the temperature we set on controller (we set to 76, room temperature on controller is 84) then the a/c waits for a long time to restart then doesnt run enough time and stop again. Hope this helps us to get to the right place to fix the issue

Ducting was made to spec for the Carrier heat pump compressor in a new home heating some 3500 sq feet. 4 years later, 2011, the original compressor packed it in, a new compressor was installed costing me some $2000.00 more - labour and refrigerant. There were also numerous service calls prior, with among others the replacement of a honking reversing valve. Now in 2015 the 2011 replacement compressor has packed it in - another 4 years. Two (2) compressors shot! Junk! I phoned another heat pump outfit and they will install a comparable American Standard for some $12,500.00 here in British Columbia, Canada. That is a boat load of money to replace a Carrier unit that should have lasted some 15 or so more years. There should be a class action suit against Carrier for this!

Ive had 9 (nine) major service calls requiring replacement of major components in less than 7 years. Thankfully I was covered for many of the services by a Sears master service agreement. That said, Ive still had to come out of pocket for several service calls for things not covered by the plan (i.e. Puron refills... 11 lbs 2 days ago ($450)). Similar scenario last year... slightly less. Thats just the AC. However, the furnace has made up more than half of those 9 service calls during the period. Ive spoken to an attorney who has advised a class action lawsuit. I would certainly be interested in joining such a suit. I have all documented service records to prove the faulty lemon that they manufacture.

We installed a Carrier Infinity 4-ton heat pump model 25HNA648A30020 in a new custom built home in 2007, opting for the top of the line, high efficiency unit, thinking that we would recoup our upgrade expenses in energy savings. Wrong! So far, we have had to replace a compressor, a coil, and a circuit board. All these parts were covered under Carrier warranty, but not the labor. All told, we have spent $3887 in labor and Freon (R410). We would have been better off going with the builder grade unit. Our HVAC system undergoes routine maintenance twice a year, so this is not due to a lack of proper routine service. We have done everything the HVAC company and Carrier recommended. At one point last year, two Carrier field service reps came to my house to evaluate our duct system, at the request of the owner of our HVAC company. The Carrier field service reps agreed to the recommended duct redesign. I was willing to do anything to correct the problems and make the frequent equipment failures stop. I saved all service records and have over 30 pages of them now. The same unit went out 2 days ago for the second time in the middle summer in hot, humid South Carolina. HVAC company has not been able to run a diagnostic yet because the compressor was too hot. To add insult to injury, we were told the warranty on the Bristol compressor replaced in April of this year would not even last for the balance of warranty on the HVAC unit. That signaled to me that Carrier expects it will fail again within the balance of the heat pump warranty and they dont want to pay for it.Given numerous similar complaints and universal lack of responsiveness on the part of Carrier customer service, it would seem that a class action suit might be in order. Too bad, Carrier prefers to let it get to that stage rather than faithfully standing behind their products. Doing the right thing might be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as it will be when attorneys get involved.

It was running fine after 16 yrs but minor repairs were beginning to occur and at the urging of our furnace installer suggested we upgrade with a new one. So six years ago we replaced the furnace which was still functioning ok with the latest Carrier furnace. Well six years have passed and we have not had one complete heating season with the new furnace without it failing. It has been a continuum of hard lockouts with no heat in the dead of winter. Over the course of the six years we have paid for the cost of the furnace with service call fees replacement parts to include a new oil tank which they said was a possible cause of the furnace malfunctioning which to this date have not resolved the problems. Carrier has been absolutely useless in trying to fix this problem in a timely manner and kept telling the furnace people to try this and try that - all at my expense. As a company who provides consumer products as important as a furnace one would think they would be more responsive to the issue but all they have done is stonewall me at every step and meanwhile I still have a faulty furnace that they will not fix or replace. At this point I will have to replace this nightmare with a different furnace manufacturer and hope that their product and company backing will be what one would expect as a consumer. I will never again purchase anything from Carrier and I will certainly never recommend their product to anyone.

I have had the air-conditioner repair tech at my house at least 25 times. I replaced fan motors and starter capacitors twice and other parts. Recently it wont cool to the desired temperature. Now its come to my attention the condenser coil is turning to dust. I paid for what I believed to be the best air-conditioner on the market. And it has just been one constant disappointment. The AC tech came out and told me that I need to replace the coil and that it would cost $2500 but he recommended that I replace the entire unit. The cost of a new one is roughly the same as that. So its basically totaled. Carrier will do nothing for me. I expected so much more. I felt it reasonable to assume that this would last many years.

My own house I built in 2009 has three systems, has had 5 compressors replaced, 4 contractors, 3 controls and one complete condensing unit in 2015 which now does not work and my house is 81 degrees! INFINITY means as long as you have it you will have aggravation. It is junk. I live right on Long Lake Rd in Bloomfield Hills and on June 26th I will remove all Infinity equipment and replace with Trane. I will put all three furnaces and condensing units on the main road with a 12 foot banner which reads, This is the kind of junk to expect of Infinity equipment. Come by and check it out ** just east of Telegraph!!!

April 2009, the unit was not working due to a failed control board in the air handler. Part was replaced under warranty, however, the labor and trip charge was $187.00. January 2011 - No Heat Removed and replace failed compressor on system under warranty. Labor to replace their faulty compressor $480. June-July 2014, removed and replaced failed compressor again in heat pump. Recovered old freon, pulled vacuum, charged to specs. Also removed and replaced starting components on compressor. Total bill $1745.00. February 2015, removed and replaced failed air handler circuit board and heat relays and boards to air handler. No longer under warranty. Total bill $1016.00. I have a note from the service tech, If heat pump compressor breaks again by May 2016, Carrier will replace with new unit.

As a manager for a mechanical contractor it is very hard to look my customers in the face and tell them that the new heat pump we just installed doesnt work. This has happened 3 times in less than 90 days. One was short compressor mounting bolts from the factory and the refrigerant line broke during shipment. Carrier said it was a warranty issue. I say a factory defect! They wanted me to fix and not provide a replacement. Took a lot of my time 15 plus hours but they finally replaced. Today new unit had a bad transformer and would only heat. When switched to cool compressor would only run for 15 seconds and would shut off on high limit. Brand new unit needs a reversing valve.Again Carrier wants me to repair and not provide a replacement unit. Carrier corporate is useless in solving my issues as a contractor. I feel for the all the homeowners. Trane is 60 yards away from CARRIER GREAT LAKES, my local carrier distributor. I walked over to Trane and will be paying more for heat pumps and will have to pass on the cost to my customers, but at least they answer the phone without attitude and have handled all of our other problems with a smile. MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COMPLAINT IN BEFORE THEY COMPLETE THEIR MOVE TO MEXICO.

The first 2 visits were covered by the home builder; However, the last visit I had to absorb. I do have a ten-year warranty on the units... The 2 ton failed again and it cost me 305.00 for labor and diagnostic fee. I asked Carrier to reimburse me as this was the 3rd failure in 12 months. They declined any help whatsoever. What is a senior citizen to do with severe neuropathy after brain surgery and very cold sensitive. If you use different motor voids warranty so must go without heat through winter. It was 14 years ago, and we have had to have repairs done to this thing, every single year. I will never buy another Carrier product as long as I live. The original furnace was 20 years old, and had only been serviced twice in that time. This is a rental, and in our own home, we have a 37 year old furnace that has been serviced once. Neither one of these furnaces were Carriers. Never buy a furnace with a circuit board. They do not last more than a year. It costs more than $200 every time you get it repaired.

My HVAC contractor is working with me and told me to contact Carrier customer service. Carrier customer service has informed me that their only responsibility is the warranty for parts. The $1000`s spent for labor is my problem. Bottom line is Carrier feels that if their unit lasts 1 year they have met their obligation. I know that everyone buys heating and AC units with the expectation that it will last more than 1 year. Carrier does NOT have that same expectation -- they hope it lasts a least a year so they are off the hook. Do Not buy Carrier products - unless you want to replace them quickly.

The technician said it is internal failures most likely due to the quality of the compressor. The warranty of course only cover the park itself, not even the coolant they have to refill after reinstall the compressor. The diagnosis and the replace of the compressor cost about the 1/4 of the original cost and install of the air conditioner. It is ridiculous to have to spend so much on labor to fix a major component on an problem most likely due to the quality of their product.When speaking to a carrier representative, they do not stand by their product, only referring to the letter of the warranty agreement. Parts also does not include coolant cost. The excuse is that they do not know what exactly cause the compressor failure and they do not look at every compressor that failed, even those that failed in much less typical lifetime of the product. It is very good to know that Carrier does not take quality of their product seriously enough to diagnose major component that prematurely failed. Either that or they have so much failure on their compressor that they just dont care. Either conclusion does not speak well of Carrier as a company.

Now on February 12, 2013, the control board on the same unit needs to be replaced. This unit cools our bonus room upstairs and is set to cool at 80 and heat at 62, so it is not used a lot. Again, I have to pay labor to have it fixed. I am really upset to have a 2-year-old unit go bad. By the way, the heat strips set off my fire alarm after the initial install, the first time the heat pump came on. I paid lots of money for this unit and another 5 ton Infinity. I would be willing to join the class action since this is a lemon.

It was replaced in 2010 by an other Carrier unit, along with a second unit for the other half of the house. Both new systems installed in 2010 were high efficiency systems with infinity thermostats, at a total cost of $15,000.00. Both of these units failed in the summer of 2014 with major repair bills - even though they had a 10 year warranty. The entire evaporator coil had to be replaced on the first unit at a cost of about $1000 in July 2014. The condenser fan motor failed on the second unit just today (Aug 29, 2014). The tech from central heating said that the motor is covered by warranty, but he must still charge me $60 for the visit and $200 for the labor to replace the motor. It is simply unacceptable to pay such high prices for top-of-the-line systems and get such poor reliability. I will never purchase another product from Carrier.

Carrier will cover the parts but the labor will cost $1,455 and they will not cover that cost. IF the tech agrees its a quality control issue they will see what they can do. Obviously by the number of complaints about Carriers coils, this IS a quality issue.

We have the system checked twice each year and things have worked well until recently. On our last bi-annual service call (January 24 this year), the outdoor temperature sender unit was determined to be bad and was replaced at no charge. Then three days ago, we received a system malfunction notice on our indoor thermostat so I called our service company and they were slammed, so we set up an appointment for today. The tech came out, spent an hour checking the system and determined the compressor is failing causing the thermal lockout conditions which were recurring on a regular basis (it is a Bristol compressor). He called their carrier supplier while he was here, went through the problems and trouble codes with them on the phone and then received the okay to replace the unit. There will be no charge to us due to the 10-year service agreement. I told him that I had read about the problems with the Bristol compressors and he said he was aware of the problems as well. He said they had a great supplier to work with and had some problems initially but no longer have them with respect to getting warranty replacements when they properly document the issues involved and the warranty is in effect. Apollo is our contractor here in Kennewick, Washington and theyve done a good job and have the right relationships with the manufacturer and vendors to get things done.

We decided to spend the $17,000 for two units and set up an install time when we would be there. Install: Day 1 (a Friday): Were told we couldnt use our Nest thermostats. Installers opened crates to find one of the outdoor units had a large dent, but told us the panel would be ordered, and that no internal damage was done.Installers were there until 10:30pm, and said that it wasnt working correctly. They said they would come back Monday.Install: Day 4 (Monday): Installer tried again but couldnt get things going. Said he spent 2 hours on phone with Carrier support. He said part needed and hed return next day. That night we found water dripping in our closet due to drain pan under attic air handler overflowing. Drain pipe not working and float cutoff switch not working. Called night number and were told it would be 10pm, so we said come first thing in the morning Tuesday. Install: Day 5 (Tuesday) Installer came at 3pm. Said part not arrived yet, but got drain pan working. Install: Day 6 (Wednesday) Got call from dealer service department wanting to know what day the next week they could install part. I said that was unacceptable because we would not be here. After 2 calls they agree to send someone next day first thing. Install: Day 7 (Thursday) Installer came at 10am, and after what he said were hours on the phone with Carrier support they were going to install new units. The only ones available were smaller but would be fine. (Im wondering why they recommended the larger, more expensive ones in the first place.)Install: Day 8 (Friday) Installer arrives at 1pm with new units. As I write this they are installing the new units, so I decided to download the Infinity app and get ready for remote access that weve enjoyed for years with Nest. I got the app downloaded and started to register. My screen (mobile and computer) says Carrier server is down, try later. I called support and they said server has been down 11 days, and they do not have an estimated time for it to be operational. Support is open Monday-Friday, so I asked them if I must be at the thermostat to connect it to my phone. They confirm that, so because I must leave Sunday to go home I will not be able to setup remote access. I will not be able to remotely see what the temp is so I wont know if the units are working.If they dont at least get the units working correctly today I plan to have them removed and replaced with Trane units. Please notice that I have attempted to be factual and not be emotional or let my anger, frustration, and home temperature (its over 90 degrees again today) show through. I only write this to let prospective buyers know to think twice before selecting Carrier.

In the last 4 and a half years, I have had 9, yes 9, service calls on my system. I have had fans out of balance (one was so bad it would rattle the dishes on the countertop in the kitchen). The main units compressor locked up and had to be replaced. The main thermostat went out and had to be replaced. Theres a freon leak in the upstairs unit and freon has had to be added to both units 4 times. It leaked water condensation in the attic, and now I go to turn it on over the weekend and the downstairs unit blows warm air. It wont cool. It has cost me over $1,300 out of pocket for the things not covered under warranty. Some labor was not covered, some service calls were not covered and, who knew Id have to pay shipping to get replacement parts shipped to me and then pay shipping to have the faulty parts shipped back to Carrier??? What a ** way to do business. The installer, Love Heating and Air in Monroe, NC is worthless and horrible to deal with and now Im getting the runaround with Carrier Corp. Im done with Carrier and wish they would come and rip this crap out of my home. Ill buy the Trane instead or a box fan. At least, the box fan would work.

This unit was problem child soon after install, kicking into lockout mode, igniter failing to light, AC part did fine was furnace part constant trouble, numerous service calls, exhaust inducer fail, high temp sensor fails. I quit using installer because failed again in less than 10 minutes after driving out the driveway, got ahold of another service company, they found high temp sensor bad kicking off furnace before satisfying thermostat, got that repaired, next thing started periodic igniter fail or repeated attempt to light kick into lock out mode again. This would not fail when service man present, told me to wait till completely fail, find problem them, month later total fail.The service company owner came out this time, found no electricity, the junction block for wiring some screws loose likely from defective assembly, yup assembled in Mexico, Once that got locked down, ignited immediately, inducer motor quieter, blower quieter, was lacking enough electric all along. Runs like should. Point is I am out hundreds of dollars on a unit under warranty, I have contacted United Technology to see if they will reimburse for defective assembly, that is not excluded under their warranty. Submitted claim today, will see what they do about this, I will follow up with the outcome of this when I hear from them, I had previous Carrier lasted 20 plus years, cracked exchanger at 20 was still running, Why I bought another, this one with new controls been a nightmare, the faulty assembly my opinion caused all the trouble all along.

Why is it, then, that NO Carrier HVAC unit weve had installed by local business Central Air, in Texarkana,Tx, had lasted more than 10yrs? The most recent unit was purchased, new, in 2013. Whereas I never see any neighbors have HVAC companies coming to do maintenance checks on their units, and this household has always paid to have them done... what is the deal with ours not lasting as long!! I use my HVAC very frugally, doing my best to keept the temp set at 78 in the Texas summer months, and also heater wise, I keep my home CHILLY in winter. I layer up my clothes no matter if Im dressed, or if Im in my pajamas! I layer my nightgowns wearing two of them at a time, and oft times wear my robe, and perhaps even throw on one of my athletic style jackets over it!So... I mentioned my CARRIER brand HVAC --not-- lasting?? Last year--July 2019... the compressor in my Carrier blew out!! What in tarnation! I do learn that its covered by warranty, but that does NOT mean that the additional parts required, nor the labor required, nor the refrigerant which was lost= NONE of those... ABSOLUTELY NONE of those things were covered. What in the heck---is CARRIER in cahoots with its dealer??? I was still out over $600usd per having to have the compressor replaced!! And good grief, it would have been astronomical to have had to pay for a new compressor too!! I suspect that Carrier must think, oh goodness the customer will be so relieved that we covered the cost of the new compressor, that theyll simply not be aggrieved by the output of cash still necessitated by the situation!! I am still upset to this point in time, to have had to pay for more refrigerant!! To have had to pay for the labor. To have had to pay for the extra parts ruined by the compressor blowing!! Does CARRIER --NOT use quality compressors! All I can figure is that they rely on planned obsolescence to survive! But they forget, once BITTEN, TWICE SHY!!! My future will be cooled by another brand!! I am looking into Trane, and others!! CARRIER can NOT be relied upon, per my experience, and-----per my estimation. I recently did an engine search on the Carrier brand and is stated in black and white that Carrier IS essentially UNRELIABLE! Oh, and to add the CHERRY on TOP of the HVAC SUNDAE... my capacitor broke in May of 2020!! I pitched a fit, and it wound up that the HVAC tech got permission to replace my capacitor at no cost, free of charge, to me. Darn tootin! That action, and gesture, though appreciated is no salve for the financial wound caused me, by Carriers choice of compressors they place into their units! Does CARRIER NOT comprehend that $6000USD for a HVAC UNIT is expensive enough? CAN they NOT take things A step further by building QUALITY PRODUCTS! They are perpetrating an epic fail by resting on the laurels of their good name! I donnt mind being vocal, via social media, as NECESSITATED/REQUIRED/NEEDED!! Id already expressed some displeasure via a public cheers and jeers group on Facebook, but really-- I bit my tongue, because much mreo can be said!! Listen up CARRIER!! Once we installed the Carrier Infinity system, we began to notice problems with keeping the humidity levels in our home at a reasonable level, we were seeing 65-76 percent readings on a regular basis.We reached out to the Carrier dealer and they told us we needed to replace all of the ductwork underneath the house. We moved forward and did as was suggested ($4600) in August of 2019. A few weeks after the ductwork install, we switched to heat pump and thought the problem was resolved as humidity levels in the winter stayed around 45% inside the home during the winter when the heat pump was being used and there was no use of the AC. Fast forward to summer 2020. We started using the AC again in April and by July 2020 the beautiful hardwoods in our home began to buckle and we began to see incredible amounts of moisture building in our walls.Our light switches actually began to buckle from the moisture, and if you took one off the wall, the moisture was enough to drip onto the floor. We have pictures of all of this. Moisture readings were back to 68 to 78 percent and 83% in the crawlspace. Through word of mouth and social media, we found several other families who were experiencing the exact same issue in our county alone, their homes, walls, and floors also being slowly destroyed by intense moisture after installation of the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system. We were in contact with the Carrier dealer throughout. Unfortunately, the dealer had a massive fire that destroyed all of their records and they had to rebuild, so there are no records of our original install other than the paperwork we have.After their rebuild that delayed our interaction, the dealer came again to our home and rewired our system to use only two drive phases instead of the designed five. This did not bring the moisture levels down. We were told several times there was a moisture problem in our crawlspace and that was causing our issues. We worked with our homeowners insurance agent and he sent a home inspection/moisture specialist who determined there was no runoff or water issue in our crawlspace and suggested the problem may be the installation of the super efficient Carrier system in 2018. The dealer returned again in September 2020 and replaced the ductwork again, suggesting that the duct boots were not installed correctly in the first ductwork replacement in 2019.This also did not address the intense humidity issue, with readings in our crawlspace reaching 83% moisture in certain areas. Inside the home we could not maintain anything under 68% humidity. The dealer then brought a large dehumidifier in late October 2020 that has been running all winter. With the AC off, the basement has dried out with use of the heat pump and zero use of the AC all winter. We will be installing the optional integrated Carrier dehumidifier next and will see if that addresses the issue when we switch back to AC, somewhere in early April.After hearing from all the other families that have experienced the exact same intense humidity and moisture damage in their homes after installing the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system, we are not confident that we will see any difference. We are out almost $18K, we have a practically new HVAC system that is slowly destroying our home, we will need to replace all of our floors and subfloors, and we are praying that our wiring has not corroded. Carrier was called to one of the other families homes and told them what we were told, that they had a moisture problem and that it was not the system.Carrier KNOWS this is an issue, the dealers KNOW this is an issue, but Carrier refuses to address it. We are writing this review to bring awareness. Consumer BEWARE. Carrier NEEDS to address this and figure out whats causing this 18 seer 5 phase system to destroy certain homes. We hope this honest review keeps others aware of what can happen with a Carrier Infinity 18 seer system and keeps others from living the nightmare we have since the installation of this system.

Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a preferred customer. VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carriers prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just dont make em like they used to and Carrier doesnt really care about their residential consumer customers either. I wont be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!

In 2006, my AC failed and I paid approximately $100 to replace freon. In 2007, I replaced freon again. In 2008, I replaced freon again and then they discovered my coil had a hole in it. In all, I spent over $500 in freon charges and labor that were not covered by the warranty in the first 4 years I owned the home. A year later, my compressor wont start and I had to fix that. Then my compressor went out a year later. Now my compressor wont start again. The HVAC people will only tell me it has age on it. It is 7 years old. I have spent over $1000 of my own money fixing it. In between the yearly (and in two cases twice yearly) breakdowns of the AC unit, my heater failed in 2009.

After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. The tech told me that it is not covered under warranty. So they will continue to put Freon in until it goes out of warranty in August then it is all on me. A wasted 9k. Never ever buy or recommend Carrier products to anyone.

One local HVAC company asked me $22K and another asked me $15K for the same models. Thank God I didnt have $22K tied up in the mess that I bought. The downstairs unit is saving us right now. I have a box fan propped up blowing cool air upstairs, where my INFINITY SPLIT UNIT has become a piece of crap apparently. The coil was rusty and leaking freon; freezing up. I have huge water spots on my ceiling where water has overflown the drip pan, which suggest to me the float switch isnt any good either. The upstairs thermostat earlier this week registered 86 degrees. The unit was blowing but not cooling. On Saturday morning, my friend sent his brother-in-law to replace the coil in the attic. The brother-in-law told me that the air coming out of the vents should be upper 40s and at least low 50s. With a meat thermometer, he and I checked the temp for approx 30 minutes and it never dropped below 60 degrees. He said that it would cool on down after it ran for a while. It never has and after it cools for a while the air coming from vents is between 70 and 75 degrees. Today, one day after replacing the coil and with thermostat set at 70 degrees, the temp at mid-day was 79 degrees. I keep asking myself if its worth $450 to lower the temp by 7 degrees. How would you feel? Last night and all day today, I have tried probably 25 times to call and text my friend that installed the unit and sent his brother-in-law to do the dirty work and collect money. He has not replied. I dont want to criticize my downstairs unit because, like I said, it is saving us right now. However, we have had to have service calls for it two or three time during winters because it wasnt heating. Ideally, with these Carrier units, we need cold air to rise and warm air to fall and wed be fine. Doesnt work that way, huh? If you are reading this and you are about to buy a new unit for your home, please take my advice and the advice of many others below and steer clear of Carrier products. Im far from an HVAC expert, so I cant make a recommendation on which brand to buy. The only thing I can offer is to save yourself some grief and headaches and DO NOT BUY CARRIER!!!

In both cases, the technicians informed me that this is a known issue to Carrier with furnaces built between 2000 and 2012. In fact, they have been sued for this exact problem. In both cases, the part was under warranty; however, Carrier does not cover the cost of labor. Labor is the most expensive part! They also replace the exchanger with the same exact part that is known to fail! The cost of the labor and the other impacted parts cost half as much as a new furnace. In both cases, the technicians, which I trust, suggested that I not put any more money into the old furnace. The CO levels were through the roof, so they refused to turn the furnace back on due to safety concerns. Of course, the most recent happened during 3-degree weather in Minnesota.I feel cheated by Carrier for leaving flawed furnaces in the market. I feel cheated by Carrier for only covering the part (heat exchanger) when labor alone for that item is $1300. I feel cheated by Carrier for conveniently only covering standard parts for 5 years when furnaces are expected to last 15 years. I feel cheated by Carrier/UTC because my new furnace had to either be a Bryant or Carrier brand because my house was frozen and I had no time to research other service providers and their offerings. No reason to call customer service with Carrier. They elevated the issue to Level 2 support, which then told me to email their Management Review Board. I sent that email 10 days ago with no response yet. I have to be one of their top customers this year after purchasing two furnaces and an AC. At least have some respect and send a response that you are reviewing the complaint!

Not to mention the cost of the Xm evaporator motor is several hundred dollars.These new motors does not have cost savings the consumer is told they do. If a motor replacement is $400 @ 5yrs then you will never see a return on investment, energy savings. Total junk. I suggest people install a regular 1/2 hp motor with a fan relay at half the installation cost. Ive worked on hundreds of Carrier, Trane & York units from 1/2ton window units up to several thousand ton chillers. Ive even been to the Carrier training facility is Syracuse NY.As a Retired licensed stationary engr. we started noticing the lack of repairability in the 90s on all refrigeration and motor control units. Once the energy craze took off cooling units (all motors/controls etc) became electronic nightmares. The consumer is being fleeced as some contractors are charging 1000$ to replace a motor and capacitor, board whatever part they think might be bad because these units cant be properly diagnosed once a internal part goes bad. 5 yrs in and Im looking at just under a 1000$ in repairs for a 4000$ unit. All energy money savings is lost on repairs. I use to work on units that were 20-30 years old and were still operating with minimal repairs.

I thought I purchased the best warranty and well-known product available with the cost of over $7000. After 18 months of operation, this unit started having problems. After a multitude of service calls to the dealer, it was determined that there was a water to freon leak. It was then classified as a catastrophic failure event. This happened during the middle of winter and we had to rely upon the back up heat system, which barely provided enough heat to keep but consumed a huge amount of power.Carrier required the dealer to cut the water coil unit and sent to Oklahoma to be analyzed. It was apparently determined the copper tubing had developed corrosion by contaminated loop fluid and their opinion was that it was not a manufacturing problem. I requested the coil system be returned so that I could have it analyzed by my own sources. I did not receive any response. I did, however, keep both intake and outtake ends of this coil system. There is no indication of any corrosion.Through many calls to dealer, distributor, and manufacturer (Carrier), the distributor finally agreed to replace the now destroyed heat pump, if I agreed to remedy the so-called water corrosion problem with a separate enclosed plate to plate loop heat exchanger, which I agreed to due out of desperation at the cost of $2600.The new water source heat pump provided by the distributor is a Carrier 50 YD model, installed on 04/22/11. Alas, this was not the end of the story. On 01/11/13 (20 months after installation), I had to have a service call to replace the freeze control sensor. One month later, Im still having problems. Another service call determined there was a freon leak at one of the solder connections which was repaired. I was wrong once again thinking, I had a good warranted Carrier product.As I understand it Carrier would not honor any of the repair costs which the dealer said he would absorb. Needless to say, Im stuck with this product. I really have no problems with the dealer or the distributor. It appears to me they took the brunt of the cost on this matter, which I feel should have been provided by the manufacturer. As you can see, this has been a long drawn process which the manufacturer has not taken any responsibility. This has created a lot of extra stress on my family and me. Obviously, I am not a happy customer and I feel that Carrier has given me, my dealer, and the distributor a lot of headaches and hassles. This is causing a lot of redundant time-consuming checks and rechecks and no warranty support. I will never recommend or purchase a Carrier product.

The contractor that installed it used best practise methods and materials when installing the unit. That included pulling a proper vacuum in the refrigerant pipe and installing a filter dryer before opening the valves on the condensing unit. Carriers condensing units are pre-charged with enough refrigerant gas for 25 of line set. The contractor has provided me with a ten-year comprehensive warranty conditional on my having them do the annual preventive maintenance. I have 36 years of experience (now retired) as a commercial heating and air conditioning contractor and I have designed and supervised the installation of thousands of systems and am a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers so I can speak with some authority on the subject. Carriers quality is as good as any other manufacturer. Problems with systems are more often that not poor installations and poorly trained technicians. If your contractor does not provide a ten-year comprehensive parts and labour warranty then choose one that does.

It is Labor Day, 2014 and we are sitting in 100 degree weather in North Carolina. The repairman showed up today and said it is now the blower in the air handler, which has a 5 year warranty which is now not covered. The repairman from Simmons said it is a very expensive part. So we are now past $16,000.00 after only six years of owning the unit. If I could afford it I would send the Carrier back to the company and have a new TRANE unit installed. ALL I CAN SAY IS RUN. DO NOT THINK TWICE... DO NOT INSTALL A CARRIER SYSTEM.

Two years ago, the system failed and the temp in my house got to over 100 degrees here in AZ. The installation company told me the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced at a cost of over $800. This with the unit still under warranty! Now almost exactly two years later, the compressor again went out and needs to be replaced. The owner of the installation company told me that Carrier acknowledges that this is a faulty unit (as evidenced by the multiple other complaints here), but refuses to replace it with anything other than another unit of the very same defective model. And of course, I have to pay all the labor charges again. Carrier seems truly unconcerned regarding customer service and only wants to take your money and run. Perhaps, as a previous writer suggested, a class action lawsuit is in order.

Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! Its had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and its brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units. The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, weve suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought Id researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carriers old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now Im told by several techs that we should have gone with a Goodman. This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!

My Carrier heat pump had a service recall on the thermostat the first month, no notification. My coil now has a service recall because of a manufacturing defect, no service recall notification or call. It add insult to injury, they will not allow me to use my Cool Cash Rebate of $250 and I have to pay for the coil to be installed. They cant even tell me how long it takes to install the coil. The deal is telling me 4 to 5 hours at $110 and another hour to determine the problem to begin which should have been automatic because of the service recall issue. There is no customer service and the Carrier is a piss poor product and the guarantee of 10 years is a joke!

Through our HVAC repair company, we knew that Carrier has had problems with the Bristol compressors (which are no longer used) and our repair company should know since they have been a dealer for almost 30 years.I contacted Carrier customer service and customer relations personnel by telephone and I made them aware (although they didnt acknowledge) of the companys compressor problems. I asked two questions : 1) would Carrier provide some satisfaction to our situation with regard to how close to the warranty the failure occurred? and 2) if we should choose to purchase a new Carrier unit, would the company provide any type of recompense toward the cost of the new unit? Carrier provided nothing in response to my inquiries. Essentially, No, were not going to provide any measure of customer relief or satisfaction and with the tone of, nor do we really care if you take your business elsewhere. This I will certainly do!

I have a seven year old system, and the builder did not register the system at install. I contacted Carrier and they basically told me to go fly a kite, even though they say they would have warranted their product had it been registered. The outside compressor is badly weathered, paint is peeling, rusted. The install guy said that although it has a Carrier brand on the outside, they took another system and merely added the Carrier logo to it. So after seven years Im looking at a replacement of the system. Guess what, it wont be a Carrier.

So, with a brand new heat pump you would think all would be good now. Wrong.Winter of 2015 and the system is running on heat-strip backup about 70% of the time. It is a MILD winter here also. I got my electric bill and the kilowatt usage for January had TRIPLED!! $$$. Dealer came out. Did something and said nothing is wrong. Next month I watched the thermostat as it stated the backup strips were running constantly AGAIN. The air-handler would blow cold air even when outside temps were in the mid 30s. When the pump couldnt meet the thermostat demand, on comes the electric strips... up goes my electric bill! I turned off the heat strips to tell the system to use heat pump only, but the only thing I get now is a constantly running air-handler and a VERY cold house. Buyer beware of Carriers low-quality product and marketing HYPE. This is NOT your fathers Carrier of yesterday.

This year the heat went out. Had the same symptom. The company I bought the Carrier from was no longer in business so called another one that was a Carrier certified. They condemned the unit. Heat exchanger was burnt. These typically should last for 15 years. Only lasted eight and a half years. Getting Carrier will replace the part but the problem is the installation is very expensive. Its like buying an expensive car. All the parts are very expensive and they charge a fortune to install it. Dont be comforted by the warranty. Its worth very little.

My residence air conditioner was leaking water under the furnace combination. The air conditioner tech diagnosed the pan leaking after checking for the freon pressure. I said why can I not patch the pan. He showed me how to access the evaporator coil and pan on the gas force air furnace by removing a panel on the rear near the evaporator coil. I have a Carrier AC.I looked hard for the source of the water as the pan was not leaking when I poured water on the pan, and the water was properly draining. The evaporator coil can slide out of the furnace housing, but one needs a platform to rest the coil to prevent kinking of the lines (very important as freon will leak, if not careful). I finally saw about two inches of dust/dirt at the top of the evaporator coil and surmised that this dirt was preventing the evaporated water from draining properly. After cleaning the evaporator coil, the AC seem to work, but the outside temperature was not hot enough to really test the AC.Another process was required, get some coil solvent from Home Depot and spray it on the coil. Be sure to get the ones that evaporate by themselves not require rinsing. I sprayed water on the coils after the foam went away just to be sure. Theoretically, the evaporated water will wash the solvent away when the AC is operating. Anyway, for a mechanically inclined person saving $5k to $6K using the above is worth a try! Or, you try talking the tech into looking at the coil itself and doing the cleaning for a few hundred dollars to pay for his time.

The licensed contractor comes out often to either tell me the unit is frozen, needs to be charged or coil needs replacing because of an expansion valve has malfunctioned. Even when a/c unit is supposedly fixed, it does not cool the home properly. It takes at least 4-5 hours to drop 2 degrees. The a/c unit runs constantly and is very inefficient. HVAC unit is a 13 Seer, 2 1/2 ton unit and Im in a 2 story, 2,100+ square foot home. I have been in my home less than 3 months, and the 3rd coil is getting ready to be replaced. This is the 10th service call. This is the first Carrier HVAC unit Ive ever owned and will be the last one.

We asked carrier to replace the whole heat pump as we must have a lemon and they sent info to product review, we thought they were considering helping with at least the labor costs if not a whole new unit. I called back after over 2 weeks of not hearing, and they said they would only replace the coil, because our unit is over 10 yrs old! HUH? Its been less than 5 yrs, and they said we didnt maintain it in over 10 yrs! HUH, hello carrier? 2016 from 2011 purchase date is 5 yrs. Yes, the unit is maintained but not by your service contract. No wonder All Temp Co. Heating and Air Conditioning of Harrisburg, NC sells these. They get a lot of work out of these inferior products, over and over again. Run as fast as you can and buy a Trane. Wish we had. Maybe carrier might move back from Mexico. I guess it doesnt matter where its made if they wont stand behind their product. I think after 2 major leaks we deserved more than their attitude and bad record-keeping.

Now, were in the middle of August in 100 degree heat and the entire unit failed completely. We need to replace a compressor, a relay, 2 capacitors and get refrigerant recovery. Total cost: $3,750. Meanwhile our house is sweltering. Despite my frustration, I politely called customer service for advice and the advanced service agent was rude. Theres nothing we can do, youre outside of warranty, sorry. Buyer beware. My advice - if youre buying an AC unit, look into warranty and try to get more than five years.

My upstairs unit (3-ton) has been out twice, most recently when the compressor blower motor stopped working. My latest problem is with the downstairs unit (2.5-ton) which needs a new evaporator unit. There is a leak in the copper coil which Im told is common. Most startling to me, however, was how corroded the entire evaporator unit appeared. I took a photo and posted here. The prevailing story I hear from the repair folks is that Carriers technology got way ahead of quality... in an effort to meet the rising efficiency requirements. The parts warranty is helpful, but the labor combined for all three repairs is now at $2000. Oh yeah, and I called Carrier (as a homeowner) to express my dissatisfaction. They towed the line on warranty terms and conditions and wouldnt transfer me to a Manager. Given my experience, I will never purchase Carrier equipment again.

We selected these because we believed they were the best furnaces. About five years into the life of the furnace one controller failed. Cappy replaced those. ($1000+). Now after 6.5 years the primary and secondary heat exchangers need to be replaced on both units! (My cost will be over $1,000.) We replace our air filters every 6 months so it wasnt poor airflow. It was poor workmanship. I expected Carrier to be a reputable caring company. Nope. They are covering part of the labor on the secondary but not the primary. Really! Where is the logic there? When I spoke to Diane in the Carriers claims department, she stuck with the policy. Might as well just talk to a robot. Conclusion, Carriers best furnace is of poor quality & controllers are poor quality. Nobodys perfect, however, I expected they would own up to it. Nope, support is poor quality too. Very disappointing.

My June 2005 Carrier heat pump (50XZ036, packaged unit, 36KBTU or 3 tons) failed within the 1st year while parts and labor warranty was in effect. The evaporator/inside coil had to be replaced after more than one attempt by the original Carrier installer to simply recharge the leaked Puron (a trademark for R0410A, a type of Freon as for the old R22), and I hope for the best. The unit would quit cooling after several weeks of use. I heard on this site that 2005/6 evaporator failures are from using R22 evaporator coils, which are not designed to withstand Puron operating pressures.In 2009, when the parts-only warranty was in effect, the 2006 replaced evaporator coil failed, and I paid a second Carrier installer $450+ to replace the evaporator coil. The original installer wanted $900 in labor, of which Puron was ~$400. The 2nd installer had a lower Puron markup of x4 (~$25/#) versus x9 (~$50/#) for the 1st installer. Puron sells for $155 for 25 lbs. The 2nd installer in 2012 charges $35/# for Puron, R-414a.In 2010, the compressor failed to run for 20 hours; only the inside fan would run, and the failure corrected itself before the 2nd installer came to investigate the failure. The heat pump worked well in the next two years.In June 2012, I came back from vacation to a warm house (81F). The compressor was running all the time, and 72F air was coming out of the vent instead of ~58F. The evaporator coil leaked Puron, and it ices over. After 3 failed evaporator coils from the same cause of external tubing corrosion caused by the design of cooper tubing contacting aluminum fins, I can say that these non-moving and non-electronic components are a manufacturing defect.I am seeking that Carrier Corp. turn back the clock to 2006 and repair my evaporator coil for free for both parts and labor with the improved evaporator coil - something they should have done in the first repair in 2006. There is a Carrier October 2005 literature citing the option of getting a corrosion-resistant evaporator coil. This was never told to me in 2006 or in 2009. Why is there an option to a consumer to buy the $5000 heat pump with the poorly designed evaporator coil or the one with the improved tin version of evaporator coil? No one would buy the inferior product.The northern Alabama distributor mentioned that since 2010, Carrier will not install the inferior evaporator coils in the SE US. Just yesterday, this same distributor preferred to sell my 2nd installer the inferior evaporator coil while he had the improved tin evaporator coil. I asked him what his markup was in trying to sell these inferior evaporator coils. Oh, that is proprietary. After talking with the 2nd installer of my findings of the improved tin coil and the 2010 Carrier SE US directive, he called the distributor and found that the tin evaporator coil is available and cost less that the inferior one. If I do not get satisfaction from Carrier Corp., I am taking everybody to Small Claims Court.
