Air Conditioner Troubleshooting

How to Replace Your Continental Air Filter
Depending on the climate and condition of your home, you may have to replace the air filters on your Continental air conditioner every two months.
1. Shut off your Continental unit’s power supply
2. Remove the access panel
3. Find the air filter; typically it’s located near the unit’s return air duct
4. Remove the dirty air filter
5. If the filter is reusable, clean it. However, if you’re using disposable filters, grab yourself a new one
6. Replace the clean or new filter into the same slot
7. Close the access panel and turn the power back on

Is your outdoor unit fan blowing hot air?
If you find that the condenser fan is running but the compressor won’t, then your air conditioner might need more refrigerant or the compressor itself may be broken. If the compressor is operable but the condenser fan isn’t, your condenser fan motor is likely defective.
On the other hand, if you notice that your air conditioner’s blower won’t run, but your outside fan isn’t having any issues, then you should check on the blower motor, the control board, as well as the run capacitor.

Is your unit proving an insufficient amount of cooling?
Check on your air conditioner’s condenser fan and compressor, if they appear to be operating unlaboured, but the temperature still isn’t appropriate, then you will want to measure the system’s temperature drop.
If the drop reads higher than expected, one of the internal components might be dirty or defective. Check on the evaporator coil, blower wheel, as well as the air filter. However, if the reading is lower than it should be, there’s likely an issue with your air conditioner refrigerant charge.

Is the air coming out of the floor and ceiling registers limited?
Check on the outside unit’s fan to see if it’s performing properly. If it isn’t, you’ll want to see if the air conditioner’s breaker is on. If this doesn’t appear to be the issue, then you’ll want to check on the thermostat or the system’s control board.

Furnace Troubleshooting

Not heating?
Either the furnace’s circuit breaker has shorted or the fuse is blown. You’ll have to replace the blown switch or reset the furnace’s circuit breaker.
Your furnace’s igniter may be either cracked or defective. Should the igniter be cracked, you’ll have to replace it. Otherwise, test with a multimeter for continuity.

Cycling irregularly?
The thermostat is likely not adjusting correctly. If your thermostat has an adjustable calibration scale, use this to adjust the heat anticipator. If this doesn’t work or isn’t an option, replace the thermostat.

Not blowing hot air?
Your unit’s blower motor has either burned out or the connecting belt has snapped. Troubleshoot to see if the blower motor is receiving power: if it isn’t running, the motor has failed, and you’ll have to replace it. If it does run, then the connecting belt has snapped, and you’ll have to replace the belt.

Blowing too much air?
The relay that regulates the amount of voltage that is sent to your furnace’s blower motor on the control board has failed. You will have to replace the control board.
Your thermostat’s contact that controls the blower motor’s functions might be stuck in a closed position. You’ll have to use a multimeter to check for continuity if this appears to be the issue then replace the thermostat.

Starting and then stopping shortly after?
Your furnace’s flame sensor detects whether or not a flame is present. Should the sensor be dirty or defective, it will not be able to read a flame’s presence. If the flame sensor is dirty, use an abrasive pad to wipe it clean. If it’s defective, replace the flame sensor.

After a search of all the local AC repair shops, I called this one, because it was the only one that had a review from an Elite Yelper. Basically all the other locals have a lot of reviews, and a lot of positives, but the accounts are suspicious, with few friends and only a handful if not only 1 review. Northern Continental was the first with some believable and useful comments. So I set up an appointment online and was immediately contacted by Tess, to share more info and set a date and time. Tess was patient and helpful and was able to answer many of he preliminary questions I had. Based on this experience, the business felt legitimate and worth proceeding further. Eric came to the house as scheduled. He diagnosed the capacitor and fan motor in about 10 minutes. He walked me through the why's and how's and gave me options and fair prices. The cost came up very fair, based on my researching local competitors. Eric was professional, polite, knowledgeable, customer focused, and he got the job done in less than an hour. I would highly recommend this company to the local community.

I own 13 rental properties so I have a lot of dealing with contractors and when I meet the owner of Continental I knew right away he was a pro and made feel confident in is ability and honesty to work on my personal home he gave me a great price on a name brand system and was done on time and didn't try and find any other problems to make extra money and another important thing to me he's employees are also pros unlike some company's that you want to hose off and watch every minute .

I needed a new furnace and air conditioner. I specifically wanted a Trane, Carrier or Lennox brand. After researching 4 companies, I had each of them come out and give me a quote. Unfortunately, for Carrier and Lennox, I could not find one that was accredited to do installations or was a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and their prices were extremely high. I found that Northern was accredited and has been a member of the BBB since 2007 and has an A+ rating. I chose them. On the day of my inspection, Dan was on time and wearing his face mask. He did his inspection and within 2 days, I had my quote. It was very reasonable. I chose them to do the installation. On the day of the installation, the installers showed up on time, with their face masks. Everything went fine! They did their job, cleaned up after themselves, had me pay and that was it. Smooth as gravy! I would recommend them to anyone!

Called Northern Continental because my AC stopped working, of course on what was to be the hottest weekend of the year thus far. It was today, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. I tried several other companies before coming across their name and giving them a call. The other companies could not work me in. Northern Continental said they would work me in the same day. Called at 9:15AM and the Tech, Dave, was on site by 10:30AM. That is excellent customer service. Dave was super friendly and got my system charged back up and functional. All in all, great company, great experience, and great customer service. I highly recommend them and will be contacting Northern Continental in the future! Thanks a million!!

My aunt Brandi had bought a new Bryant air conditioning system from continental and the AC works amazing. Her thermostat was as 77 and within 2 minutes it dropped to 75. The 2 gentlemen who installed the unit were very friendly and knowledgable and installed it quickly and cleaned up. The pricing is very competitive with other places She called and the service was excellent. The owner even called the same day to check on how it was running and to see how her service experience was. I would recommend them to anyone I know who needs repair or a new unit. Keep up the great work!

We can't say enough nice things about Continental. Our AC went out on
We can't say enough nice things about Continental. Our AC went out on a Saturday night and we asked to have someone come out the next day. They were there on time and gave us several options to fix our issue. We opted to have the whole heating/cooling system upgraded and it was completely finished Monday afternoon. I'd recommend them to anyone wanting different price points to choose from, rather than a "one size fits all" type of sales pitch that some companies throw at you. Thank you SO much!

Continental has a fair amount of features that make it a good buy for the long-term. Most parts pull double-duty, such as the swept fan blades that maximize airflow and also reduce noise from the operation. The filter drier operates similarly, keeping out dust and debris from your unit but also increasing longevity by preserving performance.

What can I say? This company is incredible!!! Jeff came out the day before and tried to service our old air conditioner on it's last legs and milked it for one night to allow us to be able to get a new system in the next day. Martin and Bogdan were precise, efficient, and extremely professional. I can't recommend this company enough. What could have turned into a disaster with us having to stay at a hotel ended up being saved at the last minute with a brand new system sitting on a hurricane slab. The air started immediately dropping the minute the new system turned on. And they also didn't sell me on what I didn't need they were extremely informative so that I got exactly what I needed. They were dog friendly super respectful and they Treated my house like they're own:)

Recently had a tank less hot water heater installed. Really pleased with Northern Continental. My sales guy, Dan, was very thorough and patiently answered all questions that I had. The sales process easy -- no pressure, just looking to provide us with what we wanted. Our install was scheduled the week after we put our deposit down. Our installer, Scott, was very good. Took about 6 hours from beginning to end on the install. We are very pleased with our experience with Northern Continental.
