DeWALT Grinder Repairs
If you're looking for help fixing your DeWALT Grinder, look no further! Our comprehensive DeWALT Grinder repair guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and maybe show you how to repair your appliance.
Repairing a DeWALT grinder may involve addressing specific issues related to the motor, switches, gears, or other components. Here are general steps for common DeWALT grinder repairs:
Motor Issues:
Overheating Motor:
If the motor is overheating, it may be due to prolonged use or a lack of proper ventilation. Allow the tool to cool down before using it again.
Ensure proper ventilation during use and consider shorter operating periods to prevent overheating.
Faulty Motor:
If the motor is not running or exhibiting unusual sounds, it may require professional servicing or replacement.
Consult the user manual for information on motor replacement or seek professional assistance.
Switch Repairs:
Cleaning the Switch:
Disconnect the grinder from the power source.
Clean the switch using a contact cleaner to remove dust and debris.
Replacing the Switch:
If cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, replace the switch with a compatible replacement part.
Ensure that you follow the manufacturer's guidelines for switch replacement.
Gearbox Problems:
Grinding Gear Issues:
Disassemble the gearbox, inspect gears for wear, and replace any damaged gears.
Lubricate the gears with the recommended lubricant.
Leaking Gearbox:
If the gearbox is leaking oil, it may need to be sealed or replaced.
Consult the tool's manual for guidance on disassembling and repairing the gearbox.
Bearing Replacement:
Noisy Bearings:
Replace worn-out bearings to eliminate excessive noise during operation.
Follow the user manual for instructions on bearing replacement.
Bearing Lubrication:
If applicable, ensure proper lubrication of bearings according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Power Cord Replacement:
Damaged Cord:
If the power cord is damaged, frayed, or has exposed wires, replace it with a new cord of the same specifications.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cord replacement.
Disc Replacement:
Worn or Damaged Disc:
If the grinding or cutting disc is worn, chipped, or damaged, replace it with a new one.
Ensure that you use a disc compatible with the tool and the intended application.
Seek Professional Assistance:
Complex Repairs:
For major motor, gearbox, or electrical issues, or if you are not comfortable performing the repairs yourself, seek professional assistance.
Contact DeWALT customer support or visit an authorized service center for guidance.
Always follow safety guidelines, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure that the power tool is disconnected from the power source before attempting any repairs. If in doubt or if the issue persists, consult with a professional technician or the manufacturer for assistance.

This is my second Dewalt grinder, first one lasted for 10 years. Having a steel sailboat, I put my grinder to heavy use, cutting and grinding steel plates...the main advantage of the new grinder is the design change of replacing grinding wheels/cutting disks with an Allen wrench instead of wrench. Moving the guard doesn't require any tool and the grinder is much more powerful. Been using for 9 months and no problem whatsoever.
The good. More power than you need. The consumables can only handle so much. It is light weight/power balanced and smooth, after a break in period. Running a grinder is never "fun" so having one that can make the least work of it is important.
I am very happy with the performance of this DeWalt angle grinder. The user manual leaves a lot to be desired, though. However, most of the set up and operation is common sense (at least I felt that way). I used it to strip paint from a house foundation, and it worked very well. I want to emphasize that it's critical that the user wear appropriate safety gear: eye protection (safety googles) and proper respiratory protection (use a face mask that matches the possible particulate contamination that will become airborne and surrounds the user). Very happy to include this angle grinder in my DIY toolset. 4.75+ stars.
This Dewalt DWE402 replaces a cheap Chinese 4" grinder that is about to die on me, but you cannot compare these two! This is a pretty amazing tool for the price (often well under $100). Buy it even if you don't think you need it! You won't be disappointed. It's a bit more bulky than a 4" grinder, and it also has a tremendous starting torque which tends to twist it in your hands when you first hit the trigger. Also, the trigger lock is a bit clumsy with gloves. So I dropped it one star in Maneuverability. But having too much torque is hardly a "flaw".
I’m partial to dewalt tools so my opinion is biased. That being said it has worked great for my projects. Changing the wheels is easy and it comes in a nice case. You won’t be disappointed in this tool.
