DeWALT Grinder Troubleshooting
If you're looking for help fixing your DeWALT Grinder, look no further! Our comprehensive DeWALT Grinder Troubleshooting guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and show you how to read your model's error codes.
Troubleshooting DeWALT grinders involves identifying and addressing common issues that may arise during operation. Here are general troubleshooting steps you can follow if you encounter problems with your DeWALT grinder:
Grinder Won't Turn On:
Check Power Source:
For corded grinders, ensure the power source is working, and the power cord is plugged in securely.
For cordless grinders, check the battery charge and replace or recharge as needed.
Loss of Power or Weak Performance:
Battery (Cordless Models):
If using a cordless grinder, check the battery charge. Charge or replace the battery if necessary.
For corded models, ensure there are no issues with the power source.
Unusual Noise or Vibration:
Inspect Disc:
Check the grinding or cutting disc for damage or wear. Replace the disc if it is worn or damaged.
Ensure the disc is properly aligned and installed.
Grinder Overheating:
Allow Cooling Time:
If the grinder overheats, allow it to cool down before using it again.
Ensure proper ventilation around the tool during use.
Switch Issues:
Clean the Switch:
Disconnect the grinder from the power source and clean the switch to remove any debris or dust.
Test the switch for proper functionality.
Grinding Wheel Wobbling:
Check Arbor Nut:
Ensure that the arbor nut holding the grinding wheel is tightened securely.
Replace the nut if it is damaged.
Sparking from Motor:
Professional Inspection:
If there is sparking from the motor, cease use immediately. This may indicate a serious issue, and professional inspection and repair are recommended.
Consult the User Manual:
Review the user manual for specific troubleshooting tips and guidelines provided by DeWALT.
Seek Professional Assistance:
If you are unable to identify or resolve the issue, or if the grinder has complex electronic components, seek professional assistance.
Contact DeWALT customer support or visit an authorized service center for guidance.
Always prioritize safety when troubleshooting power tools. Disconnect the tool from the power source before attempting any inspection or maintenance. Additionally, follow the specific guidelines provided in the user manual for your DeWALT grinder model. If the tool is still under warranty, contacting DeWALT customer support or an authorized service center is recommended.

I’m partial to dewalt tools so my opinion is biased. That being said it has worked great for my projects. Changing the wheels is easy and it comes in a nice case. You won’t be disappointed in this tool.
The good. More power than you need. The consumables can only handle so much. It is light weight/power balanced and smooth, after a break in period. Running a grinder is never "fun" so having one that can make the least work of it is important.
This is my second Dewalt grinder, first one lasted for 10 years. Having a steel sailboat, I put my grinder to heavy use, cutting and grinding steel plates...the main advantage of the new grinder is the design change of replacing grinding wheels/cutting disks with an Allen wrench instead of wrench. Moving the guard doesn't require any tool and the grinder is much more powerful. Been using for 9 months and no problem whatsoever.
I am very happy with the performance of this DeWalt angle grinder. The user manual leaves a lot to be desired, though. However, most of the set up and operation is common sense (at least I felt that way). I used it to strip paint from a house foundation, and it worked very well. I want to emphasize that it's critical that the user wear appropriate safety gear: eye protection (safety googles) and proper respiratory protection (use a face mask that matches the possible particulate contamination that will become airborne and surrounds the user). Very happy to include this angle grinder in my DIY toolset. 4.75+ stars.
This Dewalt DWE402 replaces a cheap Chinese 4" grinder that is about to die on me, but you cannot compare these two! This is a pretty amazing tool for the price (often well under $100). Buy it even if you don't think you need it! You won't be disappointed. It's a bit more bulky than a 4" grinder, and it also has a tremendous starting torque which tends to twist it in your hands when you first hit the trigger. Also, the trigger lock is a bit clumsy with gloves. So I dropped it one star in Maneuverability. But having too much torque is hardly a "flaw".
