EcoSmart Pool Heaters Troubleshooting

If you're looking for help fixing your EcoSmart Pool Heaters, look no further! Our comprehensive EcoSmart Pool Heaters Troubleshooting guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and show you how to read your model's error codes.

Defective Pressure Sensor/switch
• The purpose of the pressure switch is to ensure that water is flowing through the unit before it allows the heater to turn on.
• The pool pump must be ON and your filter clean for the switch to close and allow voltage to pass through.
• Test the voltage reading on the pressure switch with a multimeter.
• Replace the pressure switch if necessary.

Do you have too many water features operating at once?
• Your pool pump only moves a certain number of GPMs, therefore, too many water features can dramatically decrease your water flow.
• If possible, replace the motor with a larger one.
• Close water features, or alternate them, until the pool heats to the desired temperature.

Have you cleaned your filter lately?
• Monitor your PSI reading on your filter’s pressure gauge. If the PSI is too high, clean your filter.
• Increasing pressure goes hand in hand with the decrease of water flow.

Is your pump basket dirty?
• Check your pump’s strainer basket. Remove the basket and remove the debris with a hose.
• Ensure the pump basket and lid are in good condition. No cracks.

Are you using the low settings on your variable speed pump?
• For operation, heaters require a minimum GPM flow. If you are running your variable speed pump on the low setting, make sure you meet the minimum GPMs for your heater.

Is your pool water chemistry consistently and accurately balanced?
• Poor water chemistry is one of the leading causes of equipment failure, especially pool heaters.
• Test your water before adjusting your chemical levels. If unsure, please refer to the heater’s manual for the recommended chemical levels.

Have you inspected the pressure sensor, thermal regulator, and/or the high limit switch?
• Inspect these parts for corrosion, scaling, and/or any electrolysis issues.
• If the pressure sensor, thermal regulator, or high limit switch is faulty, corroded, or defective - replace it.

Have you cleaned your filter?
• A dirty filter can cause low pressure and as a result, cause the heater’s pressure switch to turn OFF. A dirty filter can prevent a heater from firing and it can also cause your heater to shut off before warming the water to the desired temperature.

When’s the last time you have inspected and cleaned the heat exchanger?
• Deterioration of the heat exchanger can impact your heater’s operation. Inspect your heat exchanger for chemical or sanitizer damage.

Inspect your temperature sensor.
• Make sure you have installed the temperature sensor correctly and it is in good condition.

Double-check your thermostat settings
• Set your thermostat to a higher temperature.

Did you properly size your pool heater?
• If your heater is undersized, it will have problems heating your pool. Oversize your pool heater to minimize the time it takes to heat your pool.

I only had this for 3 weeks before I closed my pool for the year. But when I turned it on my pool was 68 degrees and within 12 hours it was 86°. That evening it got down to 46 degrees, and when I woke up and checked the temperature it was still sitting at 86 degrees.

Very easy to install, added two fifty amp breakers to my shop sub panel and ran two 8-2 conductors, 4 wires, from breakers to power connection on heater. I'm using a 1.5 hp pool pump to pump the water from my pool to the heater which is in the shop about 50 away. Make sure you plumb inlet to bottom fitting and outlet to top fitting. It turns on automatically when it sees flow from the pool filter pump.

This is a great product, been running this for about a week on a 28K gallon pool, unit tank is built well and made out of stainless steel despite older reviews saying it is not stainless possibly older model was not stainless? also cool feature is you do not need to have all three breakers on for example, i turned on only two of three breakers, (due to not having enough power in current load center) keeping one of the heating elements off and warmed pool quickly 6 degrees a day approximately

The instructions are not great for pool heater so I wanted to explain how it works for people that are new to heater buying such as myself. I have an intex pool and actually spent more on this heater then the pool but I wanted to put my pool in my garage and see if it would work and it did. The heater is awesome. The heater does take 2 50 amps, the package says 40 and some things say 50, we used 50 and it works, if you are handy you can do it or you will need to hire an electrician, you cannot just plug this thing in. We spent about $200 on pvc pipe, wires and stuff to get this heater working so it will cost more then just the heater. We have a sandfilter and we are able to put it on N to make the heater run faster through the pump, when the heater runs through on filtration it does not run as fast. I hope the pictures help. It took an afternoon to get it all set up. Our heater would not turn on right away and it was because the flow was not fast enough.

This product works very good. Not too many people were swimming on Xmas, we were :) Yes, we live in Florida, but it does get a lil' chilly. After about 8 months we are having an issue with the temp-sensor (inlet), we thought it was the control board, but no go. The reason i'm giving 5-stars is because when I call I get right through to customer service. They're very helpful and follow-up on what they say they're going to do (emails/calls/shipping etc..). We have a 18,000 gal pool and this unit brings the temp up about 1 degree per hour. It does use a lot of power and your bill will jump up, but we only use it a few months out of the year. Compared to a traditional pool heater (heat pump) that I was quoted at $4,000...this Ecosmart 27 unit is a great buy!
