My tank developed a leak after 6.5 years. Called GSW for warranty as it has 8 years coverage. I explained that the store that I had bought it from was out of business now... but had found the same tank at Lowe's. GSW issued me an authorization number for replacement. All I had to do was take the sticker from my old tank and the authorization number to Lowe's. They quickly and without any fuss gave me a replacement tank under the warranty. I had read the other reviews on here about the customer service. I was worried and prepared to buy a new tank. However, both GSW and Lowe's were extremely friendly and helpful. Could not have asked for better customer service to execute the warranty and replace my leaking tank free under the warranty.

I installed this tank myself on the weekend to replace rental tank that was also made by GSW. The new tank was installed relatively easy by purchasing a short yellow brasscraft flex line for gas appliances and 2 shark bite fitting for the water inlets. Exhaust pipe was an exact for from my old GSW tank and matched up exactly. I am happy to no longer have to pay the monthly rental fee that cost me a bundle over the last 15 years. Lowe’s online install video was very helpful. Price was excellent as I got a 25 % online discount on the long weekend with a promo code. Delivery was a little slow as it did not arrive for 2 weeks.

I have be renting my Rheem PV 50-Gal water heater from Direct Energy for 13 years. My last bill still paying $25.99 plus tax or a total of $29.37 a month. I decided to buy and install a new GSW B5531 PV 50-Gal from Lowe's. They (Peter and Jeff) installed the new water heater within one week. The new water heater has more insulation, more quiet, more energy save, more easier to manage. The money I paid will be break even within 3 years. I also bough the protect plan to extend the warranty to 6 years of labor and 6 years of parts for only $19.97 plus tax, this will give me a break for the next 6 years. I am happy about the product.

So far so good. Lowes subcontractors installed the unit for a reasonable price. I purchased the mixing valve, which for some reason Reliance never installed 5 years ago. This unit looks almost identical to the GSW that I was renting from Reliance. I also purchased Lowes' extended warranty for a measly 25$, which will cover parts and labor for 6 years. The purchase should pay for itself in 4 years. As such, I don't understand why anyone would rent this unit for 26$-month from Reliance or any other rental outfit....it just doesn't make any financial sense to rent if you have no plans to move soon.

Bought the tank to replace the current renting one. Lowe's followed up
Bought the tank to replace the current renting one. Lowe's followed up with me right away regarding the installation, and they installed it within three days. The technician called Peter is very nice and professional, he removed the old one, and put new one within two hours. I also bought an extra warranty which covers everything for 6 years. The total cost will be paid off within three years if I was renting it. Usually, this tank will last about 10 to 15 years, this would save me lots of $$$. Renting is complete scam, and I don't understand why people are still renting it. You must own it if you want to save your hard earned money.
