How do I clean this?
Posted On: October 2, 2023

Never used a dishwasher and got a house with one that looks like this. It's a Maytag Jetclean model WU904. I tried looking for a manual or something on the website, but there isn't one.

Question from user squishycyan at Appliances at reddit.com.

Answer:

The good ol Maytag reverse rack dishwashers. These dishwashers are absolute tanks and clean extremely well. Theyre very loud by todays standards though. With these dishwashers, plates go on the top rack instead of the lower. Same for pots and pans although you can put ones the fit in the lower rack if needed.

Personally, Id just run the longest cycle, using the Pots and Pans cycle with High Temp boost, Sani Rinse, and whatever other options may be available. It should clean itself. Maybe add a cup of chlorine bleach in there as well as dishwasher detergent. It looks like it hasnt been used in a very long time so the sump is probably dry. Prime the pump by pouring a gallon of water in the tub. The float will compensate for overfilling so no need to worry there.

The jets in both the upper and lower arms are very tiny so check them for obstructions. Use pointy tweezer to carefully clean them out. Ive seen people dig them out using a knife which permanently messes up the jets. Youll want to check them again after running a cycle with all of the crap thats in there.
