The pump sits at the bottom of the dishwasher and typically consists of two separate compartments; one for wash or circulation and the other for drain. The circulation part of the pump will typically consist of the wash impeller and the filter components while the drain portion will consist of a drain impeller and a chopper blade or in some cases, a solenoid operated diverter. The impellers are driven by an electric motor that is attached to the bottom or side of the pump. 

Leaking 
A defective pump and/or pump seal may be the cause of a dishwasher leak. The function of the pump is to circulate water in the dishwasher and in some models, to drain the water as well. The pump sits at the bottom of the dishwasher and typically consists of two separate compartments; one for wash or circulation and the other for drain. Will not Start 
If your dishwasher won’t start the problem could be the door latch or door latch switches. The door latch assembly is used to hold the door closed during the cycle to prevent water from leaking and it also incorporates the door latch switches that supply power to the dishwasher controls. If the door cannot close properly to activate the door latch switches or if the switches are defective then the dishwasher controls will not receive power and the dishwasher will not start. Inspect the latch assembly including the switches. 

Door Latch Failure 
If your door latch is not working properly, the first thing to inspect should be the door catch. The door catch is attached to the top of the dishwasher tub and is normally adjustable. If not adjusted properly it can cause the door latch to not activate and will prevent the dishwasher from working, or it may not close the door tight enough to prevent a leak. The door latch may also be worn and no longer creates a tight fit, in which case the door latch will need to be replaced. The door switches may also cause the door latch to not work properly. The door switches may have no continuity so an electric circuit cannot be completed to the controls. If you think the door switch may be the cause of the problem, you can test them using a multimeter. 

Not Draining 
Some models of dishwashers utilize a check valve as part of the drain sump. Within the check valve there is the piston and nut assembly. If your dishwasher is not draining water properly, the piston and nut assembly could be the source of the problem. This assembly is located on the bottom of the tub beneath the sump cover and is accessed by removing four screws. The piston and nut assembly should move up and down freely. When the piston is in the down position, it should form a tight seal. If it is not forming a complete seal, the dishwasher will not completely pump out the water and the piston and nut assembly will need to be replaced.

Noisy 
In gas and electric dryers, the drum glides provide support to the front part of the dryer’s drum on both sides. The glides are made from either teflon, nylon or plastic and have a felt or cork backing depending on the maker of the dryer. The glides provide a smooth surface for the drum to rotate on but they can wear out over time producing a scraping sound because of the metal-to-metal contact. Remove the dryer’s cabinet and inspect the glides. If they appear to be worn then the entire set of glides will need to be replaced. 

Will Not Start 
On all dryers, the door switch allows the dryer to start tumbling only when the door is closed. If the dryer does not start when the door is closed then the door switch may be defective. In most brands of dryers, the switch is located behind the front panel with the switch button protruding into the door opening. The switch and can be tested with a multi-tester for continuity and it may have two or more terminals. The test should be made between the terminals marked "C" and "NO" and should read "0" ohms when the door is closed or the button is depressed. 

No Heat or Not Enough Heat 
In electric dryers, heat is generated by the heating element. The element is a coil of heating wire enclosed in a metal chamber. Electric current flowing through the coil creates heat and the air being pulled through the chamber absorbs this heat. If the element is defective then it will not heat. It can be tested with a multi-meter for continuity. Unplug the dryer and remove the front or rear panel to locate the element so it can be tested. 

Will Not Tumble 
Dryers use a belt connected to a motor to turn the drum. Overtime the belt can wear out or become brittle. If the dryer isn’t tumbling then inspect the belt to see if it is worn or broken. The belt should be flexible and have lots of grip on both sides. You will need to disconnect the power and remove the front panel to replace the belt. 

Takes Too Long to Dry 
A lint filter that is full of lint will restrict airflow and lengthen dry times. To keep your dryer working correctly, clean out the lint folder after each and every use. Check the lint filter for any buildup of fabric softener that will restrict airflow and wash with soapy water to clean. If the filter is damaged then replace it.

Microwave not heating 
Most microwaves have three or four door switches. When the microwave door closes, the door switches actuate in sequence to ensure that the door is closed properly. If any of the door switches fails, the microwave will not start or heat. To determine if any of the door switches are defective, use a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If any of the door switches does not have continuity, replace it. 
The magnetron uses high voltage, high current DC power to generate the microwave frequency that cooks the food. If the magnetron burns out, the microwave won’t heat. The magnetron is not repairable—if the magnetron is burned out, you must replace it. (Warning: The microwave oven can store a lethal amount of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the high running voltage and the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace the magnetron.) 

Microwave not working 
The main control board might be defective. However, this is rarely the case. Control boards are often misdiagnosed—check all of the more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, replace the main control board. (Caution: The microwave oven can store thousands of volts of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace the main control board.) 
If the microwave overheats, the thermoprotector trips to cut off voltage to the microwave. To determine if the thermoprotector is at fault, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the thermoprotector does not have continuity, and it cannot be reset, replace it. 

Microwave light bulb not working 
Before replacing the control, check the light bulbs, sockets, and wiring. If these parts seem to be working properly, test the control board with a multimeter to determine if it sending the correct voltage to the light bulb socket. If the control board is not sending enough voltage to the light bulb socket, replace the control board. 
Before replacing the light socket, replace the light bulb. If you replace the light bulb, and the light still doesn’t work, use a multimeter to test the light socket for continuity. If the light socket does not have continuity, replace it. 
The light bulb itself might be burned out. Replace the light bulb before replacing any of the parts associated with the light bulb 

Microwave turntable not turning 
The user control and display board might be defective. However, the turntable motor is much more likely to be at fault. First, test the incoming power to the turntable motor. If the motor is not getting power, the user control and display board may be defective. If the user control and display board is defective, replace it. 
The touchpad might be defective. However, the turntable motor is much more likely to be at fault. First, test the turntable motor. If the motor is not defective, it is possible that the touchpad is defective. To determine if the touchpad is defective, try pressing each of the buttons on the control panel. If some of the buttons respond correctly while others don’t, replace the touchpad.

Will Not Start 
If your oven has internal fuses, a wiring or component problem could have caused a fuse to blow. A blown fuse is an indication that a component has shorted or failed, and the problem will need to be corrected. Most ovens that use fuses will have an indication of the circuits that are affected by a particular fuse. If an oven fuse has blown, then you should inspect the oven element and the associated wiring to determine the cause before replacing the fuse. Do not change the rating of the fuses. The same will apply to a fuse labeled for a surface burner. Disconnect power from the range or oven before attempting service. 

Element Will Not Heat 
Surface burners are typically either a coil type, solid type or a ribbon coil as used in smooth top ranges. All of these consist of a heating wire that uses electric current to produce heat. Coil type elements can be checked for continuity by removing them from the terminal block and testing them with a multi-meter. You should also inspect the terminal ends for signs of heat damage or corrosion, and if present, you should replace the terminal block or receptacle at the same time. You will need to remove power from the range to change the terminal block. Solid elements and smooth top elements require raising or removing the main top to gain access. You will need to remove power from the range before lifting the main top. Continuity can then be checked with a multi-meter, once you have removed the wires from the element terminals. 

Oven is Too Hot 
On modern electronic control ranges, the oven temperature sensor is the part that monitors the oven temperature and signals the electronic control to turn the elements on and off. If it is not working properly it could be the reason why the oven is producing little or no heat. This part can be found inside the oven and is usually located near the broil element. Most modern ovens will display a fault code if the oven sensor is at fault. If you think the sensor may be the issue you can check the resistance with a multi-meter but will need to know the correct resistance of the sensor at room temperature. Remove power from the appliance before performing this test. 

Little to No Heat When Baking 
The bake element is the heating element that is found at the bottom of the oven. Most electric ovens use both the bake element and the broil element in a bake cycle, with the bake element performing 90% of the heating. If the bake element isn’t working, the oven may not reach the set temperature or will take longer to reach that temperature, and food will normally burn on the top. To help determine if the bake element is defective you should first do a visual check. If the element is blistered or separated then it should be replaced. If the element appears to look normal, then turn the oven on to a bake function for a minute and then turn it off.

Refrigerator Is Constantly Cycling Or Running 
One of the most common refrigerator problems is a unit that cycles, or runs, too frequently. Your refrigerator needs to run in order to maintain cool temperatures for food, and a refrigerator that constantly runs can be very noisy. Even worse, it will significantly increase your energy bill, as the refrigerator is one of the most power-intensive appliances in any home. The most common cause of a refrigerator running too much is buildup of dust or other kitchen debris around the unit’s condenser coils. To check this, you should cut power to your refrigerator and access the coils, which are commonly on the bottom of the unit. If the problem persists after cleaning, your refrigerator’s temperature may be set too low, causing it to run constantly to maintain a very low temperature. Try adjusting your refrigerator’s temperature to see if this impacts the cycling. Consider consulting a professional refrigerator repairman if problems persist. 

Refrigerator Leaks Water 
Water leakage is a common but alarming refrigerator problem. This issue is often caused by a blocked defrost drain, or a clogged or frozen water supply line. Your unit’s defrost drain can be blocked by food particles or other debris, and is typically accessible from inside your freezer. You can try to flush the drain from inside the freezer using warm water, though you may need to remove debris manually. Locate the defrost drain hose on the back of your refrigerator, and clean it with hot water and soap to remove any clogged debris. Should you suspect your refrigerator’s water supply line is clogged or frozen, you should unplug the appliance and make sure its shut-off valve is closed. From there, examine the water supply line to see if there are any breaks or tears. If so, the line should be replaced. If you notice a clog that does not appear to be ice, consult with a refrigerator repair professional. 

Ice Buildup In Your Freezer 
Your refrigerator’s freezer is the perfect storage space for ice, but it shouldn’t contain significant ice buildup. Leaving the freezer open for too long could cause ice buildup, as this raises the humidity level inside the freezer. Be sure to close your freezer door when you’ve finished accessing the unit to ensure humidity levels do not rise too much. Your freezer may also have a faulty seal, which lets in outside air to raise humidity. You can replace your freezer’s seal to ensure it holds the proper temperatures and humidity levels. Enlist assistance from a professional refrigerator repair service if these solutions do not solve your problem. 

Refrigerator Water Dispenser Doesn’t Work 
Many modern refrigerators feature a built-in water dispenser, providing your home with cold and fresh water with ease. Your unit’s water dispenser may not work for a variety of reasons. The water tub in your unit’s freezer door may be frozen, blocking fresh water from flowing through the dispenser. Luckily, this tub can be disconnected and thawed, allowing water to flow once again. You may also have low water pressure, meaning that water is not being pushed through the inlet valve for the dispenser. Refrigerator Is Warm 
Refrigerators are designed to stay cold, making excessive heat from your unit particularly alarming. If you notice your refrigerator is warm, you’ll definitely need to complete repairs fast. A warm refrigerator is likely caused by problems with its condenser coils. You can start by cleaning the refrigerator’s condenser coils, while also checking the condenser fan motor to ensure it is running properly. This problem can be particularly difficult to solve, and often requires professional refrigerator repair services to fix. 

Television Repair

Troubleshooting the No Picture Mode
If you are getting no picture on your Insignia TV, but the sound is good, try these instructions to resolve the issue:
Try another channel. The station may be experiencing problems.
Make sure that the antenna or cable TV is connected correctly and securely.
Press “Picture” to change to a different picture mode.
Make sure that the video cables are connected correctly and securely to your TV.
The video cable(s) you are using may be bad. Try a new set.
If the above instructions don’t resolve the problem, there is another possible cause for select TVs. To resolve:
Press the “Menu” button on your Insignia remote control.
Scroll to the right and select “Channels”.
Then scroll down until you see “Audio only”. The description for this option is “Play the audio with the picture turned off”. Change that setting from to “Off” if it was “On”.
If there is still no picture, try resetting your TV to resolve the issue:
Unplug the TV for at least a minute.
While it is unplugged, disconnect all the devices from the TV.
Plug it back in and turn it on.

Troubleshooting No Sound
If your TV is on, there is a good picture but no sound, try the following solutions:
Check whether your TV mute is on and turn it off.
Check whether the TV volume is low and adjust it. Use the remote to adjust the volume upwards.
Make sure that you don’t have headphones connected.
Change to a different audio mode.
If you are using a home theater system, soundbar, or external speaker system and have connected it with a digital audio cable, select Digital Audio Format/Audio Delay on the Audio menu, then select Audio Format to PCM.
Make sure that the audio cables are correctly and securely connected to your TV.
Make sure that the antenna or cable TV is correctly and securely connected.
If you are using an antenna and the signal strength is low, adjust the antenna or use a highly directional outdoor antenna or set-top antenna with a built-in amplifier.
If the above solutions don't resolve the problem, try power-cycling the TV by turning it off and unplugging it for several minutes. This should serve to reset the TV hardware.

Why Won’t My Insignia TV Connect to WiFi
If you have an Insignia Roku TV and it is not connecting to Wi-Fi, it may be because the Roku version is outdated. You need to ensure that the latest Roku version is installed.
Navigate to Settings> System> System Update, and then select “Check Now”.  After making sure the last Roku version has been installed, attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network once again.
If the problem persists, go ahead and change the default Wi-Fi network channel throughout your Wi-Fi settings, and then try connecting again.
If your TV is still not connecting to Wi-Fi, then power cycling the TV may solve the problem:
Unplug the power cord from the back of your TV.
Disconnect the cables between the TV and any connected device.
Allow the TV to sit unplugged for 1-2 minutes.
Plug back in the TV’s power cord, reconnect any other devices, and then turn them back on.

Insignia TV Won’t Turn On, Red Light Flashing
The number of red light blinks is a “blink” code that indicates the nature of the fault with the TV. Usually, there are various failures to do with internal fuses or circuit boards.
If your Insignia TV doesn’t turn on and red light is flashing, it likely indicates a failed main power supply.
There are at least two supplies; one keeping the remote function alive continuously and another that is turned on when the TV is ordered to operate.
To resolve this problem, try performing a power reset:
Unplug the TV from the outlet.
Then hold down the power button for one minute.
Release the power button, plug the TV back into the power outlet, and try to power it on.
If a power reset doesn’t solve the problem, you may have to find a technician to fix the problem as it may be much more complicated than you can handle.

Insignia TV Input is Blocked Meaning
This is usually an issue of the parental controls. If parental controls are on, it can cause the input to be blocked.
To disable the “Input Blocked” feature on an Insignia TV, follow these instructions:
From the Insignia remote press “Menu”
Go to “Setup” and then “Parental”
Enter the password. If you have never set a password previously, enter ‘0000’. In case it prompts for a password change, choose something that will be easy to remember.
Navigate to “Input Block”.
If it is blocked, select and unlock it.
Press “Exit”.

Noisy 
The drive belt is used to connect the drive motor to the transmission in some top load washers, or the drive motor to the wash basket in most front load washers. The drive belt is used to connect the drive motor to the transmission in some top load washers, or the drive motor to the wash basket in most front load washers. The drive belt may be either a single V shaped belt or a multi-rib belt and is normally made of rubber, but may have a fabric covering. On front load washers the drive belt is normally a multi-ribbed belt and is designed to be installed for a tight fit. On belt driven top load washers, the drive belt is normally a V belt with a fabric covering to allow for some slippage or it may be a rubber covered belt with an idler pulley or other tensioning device to reduce the amount of friction created when the motor starts up. 

Leaking 
If your washer is leaking you should first check the hoses. There are several types of hoses found on a washing machine and the most common are the drain and fill hoses. The fill hoses connect the household supply to the water inlet valve and are normally located at the rear of the washer. Check to make sure that the threaded fittings are tightened securely and that the leak is not caused by the faucet. The drain hose is also located at the rear of the machine and may not be properly installed into the household drain. Verify that the leak is not caused by a restricted household drain that is backing up through the stand pipe. Never seal the drain hose opening in the stand pipe. 

Will Not Start 
A safety feature found on front load washing machine is the door switch and the door lock and strike. On most models, the door switch must be closed and the door lock must be activated before the washer will start. The switch is normally located in the door frame of the washing machine, but may also be part of the door lock assembly. Inspect the strike to make sure that it engages the door lock assembly and that the door remains closed. To check the door switch for continuity with a multi-meter, you will need to disconnect the power and remove the front panel. 

Will Not Agitate 
On top loading washers that use a dual action agitator, it is possible for the upper portion of the agitator to become disengaged from the bottom portion. The upper part is driven by directional cogs or “dogs” that are made of hard plastic and can wear out from hard use. If the upper portion of your agitator will turn in either direction or makes a grating sound during the wash cycle, then the directional cogs may need to be replaced. Remove the softener dispenser cover to access the retaining bolt securing the top portion of the agitator. With this removed you will be able to replace the directional cogs and the plastic bearing support. 

Pumps But Does Not Spin 
Some top load washers use a direct drive motor coupling to transfer power from the motor to the transmission. The drive coupling connects the motor to the transmission and consists of two plastic drive forks with a rubber coupling between them. One of the drive forks is attached to the drive motor shaft and the other is attached to the transmission input shaft. As the motor shaft rotates, the rubber coupling between the drive forks absorbs the torque to prevent the forks from breaking. Normal use will create wear on the coupling and eventually the drive forks may slip and not engage the transmission and clutch. A common symptom of a failing motor coupling is that the washing machine fills and drains normally but will not agitate or spin. Most models will require you to remove the cabinet to access the drive coupler. Disconnect power from the appliance before attempting any repairs.
