Dishwasher Troubleshooting

The dishwasher won’t start 
• The door may not be closed properly. Make sure that the door is closed and latched. 
• The power is off or not connected. Make sure that the power is connected and turned on. 
• The delay start option is selected. 
• The child lock is activated. Deactivate the child lock. 

The dishwasher runs too long 
• The dishwasher is connected to a cold water supply. Make sure that the dishwasher is connected to a hot water supply. If not, change the water supply to a hot water source. 
• The cycle time varies, depending on the soil level of the dishes. When heavy soil is detected, the wash times will be longer. 
• Depends on the option selected. Some options will add time to the cycle. 

The dishes are not clean enough 
• The water pressure is too low. Make sure that the water pressure is above 20 psi (138 kPa). Use your dishwasher when water demand is low. 
• The inlet water temperature is too low. Make sure that the dishwasher is connected to a hot water supply. If not, change the water supply to a hot water source. Use your dishwasher when hot water demand is low. 
• Dishes are too close together.  
• Improper use of detergent. 
• Add detergent depending on the water hardness and washing cycle you choose. Use fresh detergent. 
• The selected cycle is not suitable for the soil level on the dishes. 
• Choose a different cycle with a longer washing time. 
• The spray arms are blocked. Make sure that the spray arms are not blocked and are free to rotate. 

The dishes are not drying enough 
• The rinse aid dispenser is empty or the setting is too low. Fill the rinse aid dispenser. Increase the rinse aid setting. 
• Dishes are loaded improperly. 
• The cycle you chose did not include drying. Choose a cycle with drying. 

Spots and filming on dishes 
• Water hardness is too high For extremely hard water, install a water softener. 
• Dishes are loaded improperly. 
• Old or damp rinse aid power is used. Use fresh, liquid rinse aid. 
• The rinse aid dispenser is empty or the setting is too low. Fill the rinse aid dispenser. Increase the rinse aid setting. 

Etching 
• Using too much detergent. Use less detergent if you have soft water. 
• The inlet water temperature exceeds 150° F (65.6° C). Lower the inlet water temperature. 

Detergent left in dispenser cup 
• Detergent may be too old. Use fresh detergent. 
• The spray arm is blocked. When you load the dishes, make sure that the spray arms are not blocked. 

The detergent dispenser will not close 
• Improper operation of the detergent cover. 

The dishwasher does not drain properly. 
• The drain is clogged. Check the air gap (if so equipped). Make sure that the garbage disposal is empty (if so connected). 
• The drain hose is kinked. Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked and is properly connected. 

The dishwasher leaks 
• Excessive suds caused by using improper detergent. Make sure to use only automatic dishwasher detergent. 
• The dishwasher is not level. Level the dishwasher.

Dryer Troubleshooting

Dryer does not start.  
• Confirm that the Child Lock is not on. 
• Make sure the dryer door is closed completely. 
• If you opened the door during the drying cycle, press the START PAUSE button again. 
• Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working electrical outlet. 
• Check the circuit breaker and fuses for your dryer's electrical connection. 

Dryer does not heat or does not dry.  
• Your dryer may have moved into the cool-down process of the cycle. This is normal. 
• Select a cycle other than Air Fluff and a temperature setting that is not "no heat." 
• Do not overload your dryer. Depending on the size of your washer, one wash load should equal one dry load. 
• Dry heavy items and lightweight items separately. 
• If you are drying large, bulky items, like blankets or comforters, try repositioning the load to ensure even drying. 
• The load may be too small to tumble correctly. Add a few towels. 
• Clean the lint filter and exhaust duct. 
• Check the circuit breaker and fuses for your dryer's electrical connection. 
• Make sure that the outside exhaust hood opens and closes freely. 
• Check the exhaust system for lint buildup. Ducting should be inspected and cleaned annually. 
• Make sure that your exhaust duct is a 4" rigid metal duct. 

Dryer is noisy.  
• It is normal for your dryer to hum due to the high velocity of air moving through the dryer drum and exhaust system. 
• Check the load for objects, like coins, loose buttons, nails, or broken zippers. Remove these items. 
• Make sure that your dryer is level. 

Clothes are unevenly dried.  
• Seams, pockets, and other similarly heavy areas may not be completely dry when the rest of the load has reached the selected dryness level. This is normal. Select the More or Very dryness level if desired. 
• If you dry one heavy item with a lightweight load (such as one towel with sheets), the heavy item may not be completely dry when the rest of the load has reached the selected dryness level. For best drying results, dry heavy items and lightweight items separately. 

Dryer shuts off before clothes are dried. 
• The dryer load is too small. Add more items or a few towels and restart the cycle. 
• The dryer load is too large. Remove some items and restart the cycle. 

Dryer has an odd odor.  
• Your dryer draws air from the surrounding room air. Household odors from paint, varnish, strong cleaners, and so forth, may enter your dryer with the surrounding room air. This is normal. When these odors linger in the air, ventilate the room completely before using your dryer. 

Odor remains in clothing even after washing. 
• Fabrics containing strong odors should be rewashed utilizing desired wash cycle. 

Clothing is still wrinkled after using the Wrinkle Prevent setting. 
• Small loads of one to four items work best. 
• If the dryer load is too large, items cannot tumble freely. Try loading fewer items. 
• Make sure that the items in the dryer load are similar. The Wrinkle Prevent setting works best when the items in the dryer load are similar-type items. 

There is lint on the clothing.  
• Check pockets thoroughly before washing and drying clothes. Things like paper or tissue can break up into small pieces that turn into lint. 
• Clean the lint filter before every cycle. Some loads that produce high amounts of lint can clog the filter. 
• Some fabrics are lint producers (like a fuzzy white cotton towel) and they should be dried separately from clothes that are lint trappers (like a pair of black linen pants). 
• Divide larger loads into smaller loads for drying.

Microwave Troubleshooting

Oven will not start 
• The electrical cord is not plugged in. Plug in the electrical cord. 
• The door is open. Close the door and try again. 
• The wrong operation is set. 

Arching or sparking in the oven 
• You are attempting to use incorrect materials in the oven. Use only microwave-safe materials. 
• You are attempting to use the oven when it's empty. Do not operate the oven when it's empty. 
• Spilled food remains in the oven. Clean the oven with a wet towel. 

Unevenly cooked foods 
• You are attempting to use incorrect materials in the oven. Use only microwave-safe materials. 
• The food is not defrosted completely. Defrost the food completely before attempting to cook it. 
• The cooking time or power level is not adequate to cook the food. Use the correct cooking time and power level. 
• The food is not turned or stirred. Turn or stir the food. 

Overcooked foods 
• The cooking time or power level is not adequate to cook the food. Use the correct cooking time and power level. 

Undercooked foods 
• You are attempting to use incorrect materials in the oven. Use only microwave-safe materials. 
• The food is not defrosted completely. Defrost the food completely before attempting to cook it. 
• The cooking time or power level is not adequate to cook the food. Use the correct cooking time and power level. 
• The oven ventilation ports are blocked or restricted. Make sure that the ventilation ports are not blocked or restricted. 

Improper defrosting 
• You are attempting to use incorrect materials in the oven. Use only microwave-safe materials. 
• The cooking time or power level is not adequate to cook the food. Use the correct cooking time and power level. 
• The food is not turned or stirred. Turn or stir the food.

Range Troubleshooting

The oven does not turn on. 
• Your range is not completely plugged into the electrical outlet. Make sure that the electrical plug is inserted into a live, correctly grounded outlet. 
• A fuse in your home may be blown or the circuit breaker tripped. Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. 
• The oven controls have been set incorrectly. 
• The oven is too hot. Let the oven cool. 
• Incomplete service wiring. Call a professional. 
• Power outage. Check to see if the house lights turn on. If required, call your local electric company for service. 
• A delayed start time has been set. Press the Off/Clear pad to cancel the delayed start time. 
• The oven door doesn't close correctly. Open the oven door and make sure that an item, like a baking dish, is not too big for the oven or is not placed correctly on the oven shelf. 
• Your range is in demo mode. Press and hold the 1 and 9 number pads on control panel simultaneously for three seconds, then release. Your range resumes its normal mode of operation. 

Oven smokes excessively during broiling. 
• The control has not been set correctly. 
• The meat has been placed too close to the element. Reposition the rack to provide the correct clearance between the meat and the element. Preheat the broil element for searing. 
• The meat has not been correctly prepared. Remove the excess fat from the meat. Cut away fatty edges that may curl, leaving the lean intact. 
• Grease has built up on oven surfaces. Regular cleaning is necessary when broiling frequently. 

Food does not bake or roast correctly. 
• The oven controls have not been set correctly. 
• The oven rack has been positioned incorrectly or is not level. 
• Incorrect cookware or cookware of incorrect size is being used. 
• The oven sensor needs to be adjusted. 

Food does not broil correctly. 
• The serving size may not be appropriate. 
• The rack has not been correctly positioned. 
• Cookware not suited for broiling. Use suitable cookware. 
• In some areas, the power (voltage) may be low. Preheat the broil element for 10 minutes. 

Steam is coming out of the vent. 
• When using the fan feature, it is normal to see steam coming out of the oven vent. 
• As the number of racks or amount of food being cooked increases, the amount of visible steam increases. 
• A burning or oily odor is coming from the vent. This is normal in a new oven and disappears in time. 
• Strong odor. An odor coming from the insulation around the inside of the oven is normal for the first few times the oven is used. Operate the oven at the bake setting at 400 °F (204° C) for one hour. 

Fan noise.  
• A fan may automatically turn on and off. This is normal operation, and not a system failure. Use the oven as usual. 

Oven racks are difficult to slide. 
• The shiny, silver-colored racks were cleaned in a self-cleaning cycle. Apply a small amount of vegetable oil to a paper towel and wipe the edges of the oven racks with the paper towel.

Refrigerator Troubleshooting

My refrigerator is not dispensing water 
• Make sure that you soaked your filter in water for 15 minutes before installing. 
• Make sure that the filter is securely connected to the receiver. Do not use tools to tighten the filter in place. 
• Make sure that the water line to the refrigerator is turned on. The valve must be completely open for the refrigerator to receive water. 
• Make sure that the refrigerator door is closed or the dispenser will not work. 

My water dispenser is dripping 
• A few drops are normal. If the water is dripping constantly, have a service technician check your refrigerator’s water valve.  

My water is cloudy or contains black carbon pieces 
• Cloudy water is caused by microscopic air bubbles. Run two to three gallons of water from your dispenser to clear the air bubbles out. 
• Black carbon pieces in the water are normal and appear with all carbon filters. Run two to three gallons of water through your dispenser to remove loose carbon pieces. 

My new filter is making noises or sputtering 
• Make sure that you soaked your filter in water for 15 minutes before installing. 
• Noises and sputtering are caused by trapped air pockets. Run two to three gallons of water from your dispenser to push the air out. 

My water tastes bad 
• If you do not use your water dispenser for more than four days, run two gallons of water through the dispenser before using it. 
• Make sure that you replace your filter every three to six months to prevent bacteria growth.

Television Troubleshooting

Similar to any other TV, an Insignia TV set may run well for a long stretch of time but suddenly encounter a problem that renders the TV either unusable or partially crippled. Cable connections, video input settings, and magnetization issues are common problems that can all affect your Insignia TV, but there are steps you can take to diagnose these issues and alleviate their symptoms whether or not you have experience with troubleshooting.

Step 1
Make sure your Insignia TV is properly plugged in. This includes checking to make sure the power and assorted cable connections are plugged in and have not come loose or disconnected. Make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into either the wall outlet or the surge protector.

Step 2
Check the TV's display for noise or what appears to be moving white dots. Even if the coaxial cable appears to be firmly in place in the back of the Insignia TV and has not become disconnected, it may need to be fastened tighter into the cable port. If not properly in place, the loose coaxial cable can cause distortion on the Insignia TV's display, most commonly referred to as "snow." This noise on the display can be remedied by refastening the coaxial cable so that it is snugger in its port.

Step 3
Check the A/V cables that hook up your cable or satellite receiver into the back of your Insignia TV. The A/V cables have a set of prongs on either end, with three prongs to each set. Each set has one red, one white, and one yellow prong. Take note that the A/V ports for these prongs on the back of the TV and the back of the cable/satellite receiver are also red, white, and yellow. Ensure that the A/V cables are color-matched and in the appropriate ports.

Step 4
Check the video input on your Insignia TV. When using an external, connected device such as a game system or a DVD player, the video input must be switched in order for the device's content to display correctly. You may have simply forgotten to switch the video input back to the regular cable/satellite TV input, resulting in a lack of a cable/satellite feed. Find the "Input" button on your remote and use it to toggle back through your video input options until you reach the cable/satellite input.

Step 5
Check your Insignia TV's display for blotches. TVs--particularly of the big screen variety--can suffer from magnetization brought on by other electronic devices that are improperly placed too close to the TV. This results in blotches on the display. Use a large magnetic coil (see Resources) to alleviate this problem. Slowly wave the coil in circles close to the front of the Insignia TV's display to demagnetize the TV and repair the display.

Washer Troubleshooting

Washer does not start 
• Make sure that your washer is plugged in. 
• Make sure that the lid is closed. 
• Make sure that the water source faucets are open. 
• Make sure that you press the Start/Pause button to start your washer. 
• Before your washer starts to fill, it makes a series of clicking noises to make sure that the lid islocked and to do a quick drain. 
• Make sure that the Child Lock is not activated.  
• Make sure that the Delay option is not turned on.  
• Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. 

No water or not enough water Detergent or softener is still in its compartment after the wash cycle is completed 
• Make sure that both faucets are fully turned on. 
• Make sure that the water inlet hoses are not kinked. Straighten if necessary. 
• Disconnect the hoses and clean the screens. The hose filter screens may be clogged. 

Washer vibrates or is too noisy 
• Make sure that your washer is set on a level surface. If the surface is not level, adjust your washer's feet to level your washer. 
• Make sure that your washer is not touching any other object. 
• Make sure that the laundry load is balanced. 
• During the spin process, if clothes are piled to one side of the tub, your washer may stop because of the imbalance. Your washer tries up to three times to solve the problem automatically. If the washer cannot solve the problem, try to manually redistribute clothes inside the tub. 

Washer stops 
• Make sure that the power outlet is a working outlet. 
• Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. 
• Close the lid, then press the Start/Pause button to start your washer. For your safety, your washer does not spin unless the lid is closed. 
• Before your washer starts to fill, it makes a series of clicking noises to make sure that the lid is locked and to do a quick drain. 
• Sometimes your washer may pause between stages in the cycle. Wait to see if your washer starts again. 
• Disconnect the inlet hoses and clean the screens periodically. The hose filter screens may be clogged. 

Lid is locked or will not open  
• Press the Start/Pause button to pause the washer. You cannot open the lid if the washer is running. 
• After you pause the washer, it may take a few seconds for the lid lock to release. 
• If the lid is locked when your washer is not running, press the Power button to turn on your washer. 
• If power fails while your washer is running, when power is restored, the lid unlocks. Your washer waits three minutes, then runs the rest of the cycle. 

Washer does not drain or spin 
• Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. 
• Close the lid, then press the Start/Pause button to start your washer. For your safety, your washer does not spin unless the lid is closed. 
• Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked. Straighten as necessary. 
• Make sure that the height of the drain hose is within specified limits.  
• The pipes to your sewer system may be clogged. Contact a plumber or qualified repair professional. 

The water temperature is not correct 
• Make sure that you have selected the correct temperature. 
• Make sure that the water source faucets are fully opened. 
• Make sure that the hoses are connected to the correct faucet and water intake connections on your washer, then flush the lines.  
• Disconnect the hoses and clean the screens. The hose filter screens may be clogged.
