Stirling Marathon To Re-Shore Residential Appliance Production Lines To Ontario
Posted On: April 8, 2022

In an effort to strengthen local supply chains, Stirling Marathon announced plans to re-shore manufacturing of several refrigerator models currently imported from China by building a manufacturing facility for residential refrigerators at their Elora, Ontario headquarters

Currently, there are no manufacturers of home appliances located in Canada, with all refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and dishwashers either imported from China, Korea, Thailand, US, Mexico or Europe.

“Our Team at Stirling Marathon is excited to bring appliance manufacturing back to Ontario with the addition of a modern refrigerator manufacturing facility at our Elora facility,” said Doug D. Greenway, President of Stirling Marathon in a statement. “Re-starting appliance manufacturing to compete globally requires a significant commitment, made possible with support from the Government of Ontario’s Southwestern Ontario Development Fund and Township of Centre Wellington. We look forward to adding up to 50 new positions over the next few years in our community as we make made-in-Ontario quality, design and performance available to customers in Canada, U.S. and the World.”

Stirling Marathon Limited, based in Elora, is an Ontario designer and manufacturer of home appliances under the Stirling, Marathon and Epic brand names. Products include specialty refrigerators, upright freezers, and undercounter built-in wine coolers. The principals of the company, which was founded in 2016, have over 70 years of combined experience in the home appliance industry.

The project will allow Stirling Marathon to grow their residential appliance manufacturing capabilities with a 48,000-square-foot expansion of their Elora facility. This will increase the company’s ability to manufacture residential beverage coolers, refrigerators, and other specialty appliances. It will also allow Stirling Marathon to install state-of-the-art metal fabrication, foaming and moulding equipment in their facility.

The official ground breaking for the Elora site was held on Aug. 26 with Mayor Kelly Linton, left, attending. Other principals of the company are, from left: sales and marketing manager Phil Greenway, office administrator Denise Greenway, Doug Greenway, board member Phil Greenway Sr., treasurer Jim Lightfoot and Demicon Construction president Mike Demerling who will be building the project. Additionally, the Ontario government is supporting by investing $1.5 million through the Regional Development Program, which will help create up to 50 new jobs over the next five years to re-shore Stirling Marathon’s residential appliance production lines to Ontario, creating more good jobs and strengthening local supply chains for the future.

“Ontario is proud to be working with Stirling Marathon Limited to expand their manufacturing capabilities and create good, local jobs,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade in a statement. “We look forward to seeing more of these kinds of private-sector investments that are creating the conditions for long-term regional economic growth. We thank Stirling for contributing to our province’s dynamic and growing manufacturing sector and economic recovery.”
