Washer Problem
Posted On: April 21, 2023

Recently my washer has been having this issue where it will wash, but when it gets to the Rinse cycle, it sputters out and makes this noise that sounds like it's trying to spin but can't.

It wasn't too much of a problem until the washer stopped going altogether.

Now it won't go at all.

I think it might be the Shift Actuator (I think that's what it's called), but I'm also worried it might be the motor.

If it's relevant, almost a year ago I changed the pump intake where the hoses attach and it's been working fine since.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:

Based on the symptoms you've described, it's possible that the issue with your washer could be caused by a faulty shift actuator or a malfunctioning motor.

However, there could be other possible causes for the problem as well.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to help diagnose and fix the issue:

Check the washer's error code: Many modern washers have error codes that can help diagnose the problem.

Check your washer's manual to see how to access the error codes, or do an online search for your washer's make and model to find the information.

Check the drain hose: If the drain hose is kinked or clogged, it could be causing problems with the washer's ability to drain water properly.

Check the hose to make sure it's clear and not bent or twisted.

Inspect the shift actuator: The shift actuator is responsible for controlling the washer's motor and transmission during the wash and spin cycles.

If the actuator is faulty, it may not be able to switch between cycles properly.

Inspect the actuator for any signs of damage or wear.

Check the motor: The motor is responsible for powering the washer's agitator and spin cycle.

If the motor is faulty, the washer may not be able to complete a cycle.

Check the motor for any signs of damage or wear.

If you're not comfortable performing these troubleshooting steps yourself, it may be best to contact a professional washer repair service to diagnose and fix the problem.
