Washing Machine Maintenance Tips
Posted On: February 6, 2021

Washing machines are forced to perform the tedious task of washing our clothes. From t-shirts to curtains, these machines certainly make our lives easier and better. Therefore, it’s important to keep these machines running in good condition. Some basic maintenance goes a long way in helping these machines last for years to come, most of which can be done right from your home.

Deep Cleaning
Washing machines are expected to give it their all every time. Sadly, this isn’t always the case. You may notice that your clothes aren’t coming out as clean as they used to when the machine was new. This is most likely due to the micro residuals present in the water. Use a strong machine cleaner that is capable of removing all the scaling without damaging the parts of the appliance. Don’t buy the cheapest possible cleaner, either.

Spillage Protection
Your washing machine can also gather residues from spilt detergent. Even if you used the best detergents or softeners in the market, the residue they leave behind becomes sticky over time and begins to smell bad. The solution to this problem is to wipe it with a mild dishwashing cleaner. Don’t forget to clean the inside of the drum with a damp cloth as well as it also builds detergent and dirt residue over time.

Check the Filter
Semi-automatic washing machines contain a lint filter inside the washing tub. It extracts the lint and other dirt particles from the washing process and stores it in a bag. This filter needs to be cleaned every once in a while too. Once the filter becomes full, it is not able to collect the debris which will remain in the water. This will negatively affect your machine’s performance, as debris will get stuck on your clothes and in the machine itself. Clean the filter at least once a month.

Check the Hoses
To ensure your clothes clean properly, you should keep an eye on the hoses of your machine. Washing machines have three hoses, two are inlets and one is an outlet. Make sure the inlets are connected properly to the water source and have no cracks or leaks. Additionally, this will prevent the wastage of water. Also, don’t forget to check the condition of the outlet and drain hose from time to time.
