Water Heater Keeps Shutting Off

There’s nothing worse than stepping into the shower and having no hot water. A water heater works by collecting water at the bottom of the unit. Once the water is heated by a gas flame or electricity source, this water is then stored for when you need it.
Check Your Gas Supply
If your water heater runs off of gas, check to see if you have enough gas in the tank. The pilot light will not stay lit if you do not have enough gas. Also, check to see if the valves are open to making sure gas is being transferred to the pilot light.
Clean Your Pilot Light
If your water heater hasn’t been checked in a while, your pilot light could be getting pretty dirty. If enough grime builds up around the pilot light, this may affect the adjustment knob that controls the flame.
Poor Electrical
If you have an electrical water heater, it may have worn out over time. If everything else is working, but the water heater does not turn on, this is a sign that there is something wrong with your electrical parts. If your water heater shuts down every time hot water is needed, this could be a sign that there is a breaker issue.
Thermocouple
The thermocouple is responsible for checking to see if the pilot light is on. If there is something wrong with the thermocouple, no heat will be detected and your water heater won’t turn on.
If you are having issues with your water heater, make sure to call an HVAC professional to check out your appliance.
