Whirlpool basic top load washers any good?

I'm going to be moving into my apartment full time and I'm looking to get a washer and dryer set. I don't want anything too expensive, I just want it to clean my clothes and last a decent amount of time (and I want an agitator). The two washers that caught my eye are the Whirlpool WTW4816FW and the Amana NTW4516FW. Both appear to be based on the same platform and are basic, stripped down washers. As far as appliances go, Im a huge believer in less features = less stuff to break. However, I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews on these units, which makes me wonder, are they actually any good? Or is it better to spend more money on a fancier unit? Other brands I should look at? I'm not concerned about the dryer.
Question from user andybub99 at Appliances at reddit.com.
Answer:
I have a set of whirlpool, and they're great with no problem for 4 years now.
