The Trane XR15 Heat Pump is a residential heating and cooling system designed to provide efficient heating and cooling for homes. Here are some key features and information about the Trane XR15 Heat Pump:

High Efficiency: The Trane XR15 Heat Pump is known for its energy-efficient performance. It typically offers a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for cooling efficiency and a high Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) for heating efficiency. The exact efficiency ratings may vary based on the specific model and configuration.

Two-Stage Compressor: The XR15 Heat Pump features a two-stage compressor, which allows the system to operate at two different capacity levels. This two-stage operation provides more precise temperature control and helps maintain consistent comfort levels while minimizing energy consumption.

Environmentally Friendly Refrigerant: The XR15 Heat Pump uses R-410A refrigerant, which is considered more environmentally friendly than older refrigerants due to its lower impact on the ozone layer.

Durable Design: Trane is known for its durable and reliable HVAC systems. The XR15 Heat Pump is designed with components that are built to last, helping to reduce the need for frequent repairs.

Quiet Operation: The XR15 Heat Pump is designed for quiet operation, with features such as a sound-dampening compressor cover and a fan design that reduces noise levels. This makes it a suitable choice for homes where noise levels are a concern.

ComfortLink II Capability: Some models of the Trane XR15 Heat Pump may offer compatibility with the Trane ComfortLink II communicating technology. This technology allows the heat pump to communicate and coordinate with other components of the HVAC system, optimizing performance and providing advanced diagnostics for easier troubleshooting.

WeatherGuard II Top: The XR15 Heat Pump typically features a WeatherGuard II top, which is constructed to withstand various weather conditions and provide protection to the internal components.

Limited Warranty: Trane typically offers a limited warranty on their heat pumps, including the XR15 model. The warranty coverage may vary depending on the specific terms and conditions set by Trane. It's important to review the warranty documentation to understand the coverage and duration of the warranty.

When considering the installation of a Trane XR15 Heat Pump, it's recommended to consult with HVAC professionals or authorized Trane dealers. They can provide expert advice, recommend the appropriate model and configuration for your home, and ensure proper installation and maintenance.

Keep in mind that regular maintenance is essential for the efficient and reliable operation of any HVAC system. It's a good idea to schedule routine maintenance with qualified technicians to ensure your Trane XR15 Heat Pump continues to perform optimally.

XV 90 Control Board fried after warranty expired - I had a XV 90 installed
XV 90 Control Board fried after warranty expired - I had a XV 90 installed in 2004. It has run without issue up until Christmas Eve 2012. Ill spare the horror story around the troubleshooting process to determine the board was fried, but in the end, I ended up forking out $1,100 to have a new control board installed. Symptoms: (1) no heat; (2) it came on once, but that appeared to be its final cycle; (3) fan would still run, so it led me to believe that there was hope. Bottom line: Theres a known problem with the board for the model/serial of my furnace. It was recommended by Trane that a new control board/upgrade kit be installed. I plan to keep it around just so that I feel like I gained something from spending so much on a new control board. The service tech that did the repair mentioned that this is a common occurrence and he carries extra boards in his truck for this very reason - nice.

In 2001, we built our house and went with top of the line Trane heat pumps, two of them. In 2004, hurricane Ivan came in and took our house. In 2005, we rebuilt and had the same units installed, Trane heat pumps with the UV filter system 14xl. Well in 2007, the 3.5-ton unit went out. We called the company that installed both units, Mooneyham Heating and Air in Milton, FL. They came out and told us the coil was no good and needed to be replaced. It would cost us $1,500. We told them it is under warranty. They said, “Let us check on that and we will get back to you.” Well, several days go by and no call back, so I called them and they said, “Sorry for not getting back to you but we have been really slammed.” I told them, “Well, I would like to have A/C again.” It is 90 + outside. They told me that Trane would only cover the coil under warranty and we would have to pay the labor. I said, “Can I have their phone number?” So I called Trane in South Florida. After two days of the dog chasing its tail, they got back to me and told me over a 3-way call with Trane and Mooneyham that Trane would be paying parts and labor to Mooneyham. I said, “Great, when can I have my A/C back?” Well, that’s another issue. The coils are on backorder. I said, “What? It could take up to three weeks to get you one sent in the mail.” I told them that is not going to work, so I called our local district and they have one on the shelf, 6 miles from me. So I called Trane back and told them there is one on the shelf at this place, call them and I will go and pick it up for Mooneyham. “We can’t do that, sir. It has to come from us.” I know the system is out again and they will not fix under the warranty agreement and the other unit just went out for the same thing. So I have two units not working and no A/C in 90+ weather. I guess their slogan is incorrect - Its hard to stop a Trane. Well, everything I have seen on this form and other Trane units are junk and overpriced. It was our first and last and I will be turning this over to our lawyer.

Expensive junk- deceptive customer service. We had a split system installed in our sunroom as part of a major home renovation project. The unit functioned erratically the whole time. We were told by the contractor that it was to be expected or maybe we were not using it right. Last December, 14 months later, the condenser died due to condensation turning it into a solid block of ice. We contacted a Trane certified repair company and found out our product has not been registered for the three year warranty, and the one year basic warranty had expired.I contacted Trane, to explain that my husband and I were not at fault for this, and asked them to stand behind their product and help us out. I wasnt expecting a full replacement or even 100% part replacement, but at least 50%. Their response after almost two months of back and forth, providing all sorts of information and getting transferred to three tiers of customer service levels, was to offer us 15% off a new unit. $315 for a $2200 installation! So much for standing behind their products! I guess I should have checked this site first and noted the one star rating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because I believe three out of the four CS reps truly tried to help, but it came down to the Escalation Specialists who dropped the hammer on my hopes for a decent resolution.

Bought a new house in June 2017 and saw that it had a Trane HVAC unit with a heat pump. I was thinking it would be like the Trane unit my dad bought 30 years ago that is still running, but it wasnt. AC worked fine from June till November when it started getting cold. Turned the heat on and the house actually got colder from the air coming out. Called the builder and filed a warranty claim. The HVAC installation company Carolina Comfort wanted to leave me without heat for 2 weeks. I called my realtor who got the builder involved and 5 days later they had the new valve to food it. Called the dealer and Trane telling them this was ridiculous and they needed to replace the unit since it was overheated from the bad valve. They said not going to happen. Fast forward to December 2018, as it got cold again and I turn the heat on it worked for one day then blew cold air cooling our house instead of heating it before I shut it off. Called Carolina comfort again and they looked at it and said the compressor failed from running last year with a bad TXV. Called Trane again and they said its fixed, thats all they are going to do. I explained that I am not comfortable with this unit being 0 for 2 in 18 months during heat season. They said it is what it is. Next time Ill buy a carrier Lenox or even a Goodman before I ever buy a Trane unit. And if I buy a house with a Trane unit already there, Im going to get a warranty to plan on replacing that trash. Done with buying Trane.

We replaced our entire HVAC system in 2008 with a Trane heat pump and gas furnace. We got a 10 year warranty, which we used extensively. The warranty ran out in February of 2018 and I found out today that the blower motor has burn out, again. Previously the blower motor was replaced under warranty. Now it will cost $1,500 to replace the blower motor. I will never buy another Trane product and wont even buy from a HVAC company that sells Trane.

My wife and I purchased a 2500 sf. home in 2011 that was equipped with 2 Trane HVAC systems. The home was designed to operate with 2 systems to provide adequate airflow for both 1st & 2nd floors and to eliminate the excessive wear & tear of only relying on 1 unit to do the job. To this point, I have never owned a home that was equipped with a Trane product, but have always heard great things. We actually thought we were getting a little Peace of Mind because of the feedback weve heard about the Trane brand, but Peace of Mind was the last thing we received. Our opinion about Trane products took a turn for the worst last week when I noticed that the AC system sounded slightly louder than usual. My first instinct was to check the vents for airflow, which there was no cold ac coming out. When I checked the main HVAC unit, I noticed the lines were frozen (usually means low Freon or better yet, a Freon leak). At this point I called a reputable AC company to come out, fix the leak and recharge the system. When the technician arrived he began troubleshooting the system and discovered there was severely more problems with the unit than originally expected. When the technician opened the unit he noticed that there was excessive corrosion to the internal parts, which also needed to be repaired. After a full survey of my ac system the technician told me that I have 2 choices: Option 1, repair the defective internal parts which was quoted at $2,600.00 or Option 2 Replace the entire AC system for about $6,000.00. I called Trane to inquire about any warranty offering and the lady kindly informed me that my unit was not covered.Im not a detractor of the Trane brand because of the quoted cost of repair, I am completely aware of the Cost of Ownership and maintenance cost. Im a detractor of the brand because the product performance/life expectancy does not meet the companys product message. There is a certain level of expectations that consumers have when they spend their additional money for a premium product. Being a first time Trane owner and having had my first experience working with Tranes customer service, I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in ever owning another Trane. I will try to load pictures of my A/C system to accurately reflect its condition. Externally, the system looks brand new. Internally, well, that is a different story.

2.5 ton HVAC unit defective coil - Unit was installed on May 24, 2014. One month beyond unit installation guarantee on parts and labor the unit quit cooling. The unit originally cost $4,500 and the installer BURGESS AIR CONDITIONING LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA does not offer financing. Two years and one month later, we required service and the replacement of the coil which cost us $891. Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.

I purchased a Trane Total Home Comfort System (XV95 gas furnace and XL15i air conditioner 4 ton capacity) in June 2009. The cost was $8,500.00. I thought Trane was a good unit. I had a Lennox builders grade and it was 15 years old and thought I better replace it since it was going to cost me $400.00 to repair because ants got into a part. Well, 4 seasons later the air is not working and the repairman told me there is a leak in the A Coil. I told the repairman I always heard if something goes wrong with the A Coil you need to replace the unit. He said he usually recommends this and it would be over $4000 but since the unit is not even 5 years old he said to just replace the A Coil. The part is under warranty but the labor would be $1200. Good grief!!! This must be a very difficult repair since it costs $1200 to fix. I thought I was buying a good product but now I know not to recommend Trane to anyone. I guess I better hope the furnace works this winter.

In April 2015 we purchased what we believed to be a quality XV20i “TruComfort System”. We spent $17,500. From the beginning, our electric bills increased during times when temperatures are below freezing. We have had sleepless nights due to the loud compressor noise and the system runs 24 hours a day at times. The coils ice up so badly that the ice build up extends out of the side vents and into the fan compartment. We have to resort to our emergency heat unit as the fan blades hit the ice and cannot function. We wait until the unit thaws out with above freezing temps. Our HVAC company has been out multiple times and says all sensor readings are normal and basically don’t know how to fix our problem. Again we have paid for multiple service calls, the most recent $294 with no resolution. Unlike others, I have not attempted to call Trane, as it seems impossible to get help. Our local dealer promises to take care of us, but my faith is dwindling. We work hard for our dollars just like the rest, and it is very frustrating to spend this kind of money on a product that does not live up to its name. It is like robbery.

Purchased a 3 1/2 tn XR 13 heat pump 2-2014. Last week it stopped cooling. Contacted the installer. They found a leak where the coil was connected to the compressor. It was a failed solder connection. This repair cost $1200 mostly the cost of refrigerant R410a. Trane warranty excludes the cost of refrigerants. One disappointed consumer in South Carolina!

I enjoy my two variable speed Trane units. They are quiet and very efficient. After replacing old (23 years) units (also by Trane), I noticed that the electric bill dropped by $50-60 / month in summer time and $20-30 in wintertime. I live in Arizona and the electric bill in summer was $400+. Now it is less than $350. But the best feature is that when the AC unit starts there is no "boom" noise, when the unit starts. What you can hear is just a soft whisper when cool air starts breezing in. I installed one, and 2 years later another one - both Trane. I have two floors, each floor is regulated by one unit. One unit is already 5 years old, another is 2, I signed up for a maintenance service plan, so far no problems at all. Trane seems to be an expensive brand, but I spoke with installers and they say that it is worth the money. I would recommend it - at least to consider - when replacing a unit for a new one.

In the past year, had three heat pumps installed. In the process was emailing Trane (American Standard) to see about an extended labor warranty. No response at all! Go to their website, try to call, it keeps reverting to emails communication only. One of the units just installed 2 weeks ago sounds like it is coming apart. Had to google their phone #. Talked to customer service. They do not cover labor even within 30 days. So with that being said I will not be purchasing Trane (American Standard) units again. I think that their response to the matter is poor.

A well respected HVAC installer turned on our Trane Heat Pump for the first time today, Nov. 16, 2012, as our new home was being completed. Within 15 minutes, it exploded and caught fire and if our contractor had left 5 minutes earlier, our home would have burned to the ground. Fortunately, he was able to put out the fire, but within minutes it would have been out of control. This evening we read reviews of Trane Heat Pumps that consistently complain of poor service, poor quality, numerous repairs, even a report of one previous fire. It appears that this company is doing nothing to stand behind their products and correct serious problems.

We installed an XL15 system in our home - heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

4 years ago the Trane condenser burned out. The air handler was also replaced with similar units. They too burned out after one week. A third unit was installed and I was told they were units made in China...so now after 3 new units failing they installed a Rheem unit for the air handler and a Trane for the condenser. The condenser just burned out again, and I am told the same thing. Made in China...or Mexico?? Anyhow that is 4 units in 4 years...and my system is clean and all new.

The original blower wheel installed in model 4TGB3F48A1000AA Furnace Air Handler is inappropriate. In my estimation, it was designed to fail. In my case, it failed just after 4 years of service. The notched blade design is not compatible with a direct drive system. The amount of overlapping material of the blade relative to the dual center drive disks is not sufficient to withstand the rotary forces placed on them by the motor. A solid blade design would be the best option. I would suspect that others have had the same issue. The seasonal HVAC tech who performs bi-annual service noted that he was very familiar with the sound this particular blower wheel prior to failure. As it stands, this item is not covered by any warranty and supposedly can only be installed by a licensed Trane technician for approx. $500.Failure in this case equals the dual center drive disk slipping out of its original position. Each fan blade skips out of its designated slot allowing the drive disk to rotate irrespective of the fan assembly. DIYers will be happy to know this can be replaced for less than $70 without any special tools. Just match the blower wheel attributes to those listed on Emotorstore.com

We have a three-level townhouse that is about 1500 square feet. We purchased the house in 1992, and it was about 10 years old. A York heat pump and heating and air system was on the unit and we had no issues with the unit... it worked like a charm. In 2007, we had collateral damage from an attached houses arson fire, and the unit inhaled so much smoke that State Farm Insurance allowed us to get a new unit. We trusted them and got a comparable Trane unit.By the way, beware of State Farm and any insurance company, and make sure they arent cutting corners with your home, car or anything else they insure... but that is another story. They might say theyre a good neighbor... but they are a ginormous company with a lot of people to deal with, and many are less than desirable. Have a fire and a car accident with State Farm as your insurer, and see who your good neighbor isnt. Trane, however, is BAD PARTS and SERVICE. State Farm doesnt have manufactured parts. Buyers beware... we have had a heater or air major repair every season since the Trane was installed. We found out by going to the internet for known issues, and gave the model number and info we got from a very nice HVAC technician.Trane installed crap parts that broke over and over in the same units until only threats of class action suits and so many furious customers made Trane change their part manufacturer on the TX Valve. If you got a Trane between 2000 and 2012, beware. These parts, especially the START CAPACITOR TX VALVE HEAT STRIP ELEMENTS - the bad TX valve failure will cause the freon to need replacement and a very expensive technician bill. A bunch of new homes in a development had to replace their TX Valves over and over and made such a fuss that Trane had to pay. We have had the unit 5 years, and we have had to lay out money for expensive parts and service every year and almost every season. And we will likely pay for the unit in repairs over and over and over if this continues. The installers and HVAC techs know these issues and they dont like it either. Trane knows the bad parts, and they let consumers buy them over and over and let the installers take crap, and they make money replacing parts that should have been recalled and replaced by TRANE. The only thing that deflects that from happening is that no one usually dies from a bad Trane unit, and it doesnt get worldwide publicity as it should. From what I have read, it doesnt matter what size unit. If its Trane, you are going to waste your money and feel the pain. Threaten them, scream at them, join together, and sue them. Publicize their rip-off stories on sites like these or any way you can. Any company who does business like this needs to correct it. They sold bad parts in units, and knew they were bad... and let the consumers get stuck with crap. The bad publicity and reputation management that issues will cost a global company are serious... so get Trane to pay. We have lost money, days of work waiting for repairmen, discomfort in being cold or hot for days every season, and extra utilities, because fans and space heaters and unit compressors are working overtime.

Feb 21 2014 H&A replaced sensor and defroster from icing. Feb 28, 2014 I called H&A heat pump again iced up. 2 March 2014 I notified H&A heat pump fan hitting ice. 4 March 2014 H&A said defroster coming through Customs and should be here end of week or next week. 17 March 2014 H&A said defroster in yesterday (16th March). 18 March H&A changed thermostat in heat pump. Found leak in air handler coils. He said someone will call Monday to let me know if they have part or will need to order. He replaced Freon. June 29 2015 did not hear from H&A. June 30 2015 11:07 am I called H&A and was told part had to be ordered and should be in tomorrow or Thursday. 14:00pm AC running and room temp at 77 degrees and increasing. Thermostat set at 72 degrees. Turned off AC and have fan on. 2 July 2015 14:18 pm I called H&A and was told part not in yet. 3 July 2015 14:40pm I again called H&A and got recording machine, I did not know they were not opened. 14:47pm I called and left msg with H&A that I again have had no ac all week and no one has bothered to call me to update me on what is going on. I said I would appreciate an update first thing Monday morning since the office is closed today.6 July 2015 11:30 Received call from H&A, he said he will try and track down where part is and call me back. 11:40 am H&A called and said it was on the dock in Little Rock and to be delivered today and H&A will install it tomorrow afternoon. I told him that if it isnt there then someone needs to put Freon in. 7 July 2015 H&A called and said truck driver with parts was in an accident and she was trying to find where part was. She said something about install tomorrow and I told her someone needs to come today and put Freon in today. I also informed her I have a mountain dog and the heat can kill her. She said someone will be here today to either install the part of put Freon in. Currently 95 degrees inside house and 90 degrees outside.7 July @17:10 Tech shows up to add Freon, he does not have part, said was almost empty of Freon. 17:33 still filling with Freon, house 86 degrees. I voiced to tech that I was very upset, that for 12 days and still no part and I had to call to find out any information and I was left without ac for so long. 17:43 completed filling with Freon and left. 8 July 2015 14:30pm one worker here and waiting for another to bring coil. 14:40 other guy here with coil. 16:30 replaced coil and added Freon and left10 July 2015 10:57 am Spoke with H&A and informed her ac set at 70 degrees and in 77 degrees in house, ac not functioning again. She said someone will be out this afternoon to look at it. 11:07 I called and informed H&A that there was fresh water on the wooden platform the air handler sits on. She said to turn off ac and turn on fan- I did this. 14:30 took dog to be boarded, she was lethargic and no ac in house. 15:33 H&A called and said hed be here in 20 minutes. 15:55 Tech here, after he looked over unit I asked what was wrong with it. He said a valve on the coils failed. 16:26 he went to pick up valve at Trane. 18:41 he completed replacing valve and left. 12 July 2015 10:40am called H&A after hours number and told her ac not functioning set at 70 degrees and 77 degrees in house. She said someone will call.11:23 received call from H&A will be here in 20 minutes. 11:25 boarded my dog, very lethargic. 11:47 tech here, said more than half Freon leaked out, recharging unit. 13:00 said leak at junction of heat pump compressor and he could patch it. I said that was NOT acceptable. This is a new unit and not even two years old and patching is not acceptable. I said Trane can replace both units at their expense, poor quality equipment. I said I cannot deal with this anymore and had to walk away. Tech said he will call his boss. 13:20 Tech said his boss would want him to patch leak so that I have air until they can deal with Trane regarding replacement. He did not know how long that would take. He is currently patching leak on outside unit. I told him this is causing me too much stress and I cannot deal with it. I will be seeking what legal avenues I have in the state of Arkansas. I have spent too much money and received inferior parts. 13:48 one of H&A owners called, and said they will talk to Trane tomorrow and will demand Trane do something and he will call me tomorrow. He said he will make it right. He also said he thinks I got a lemon and will push for new equipment. I told him I wanted inside and outside units replaced at Tranes expense. 14:30 Tech finished patching and recharging and left.

Another week called Trane, they could care less about your problem. If I live here long enough will never replace anything with a Trane.

We had a Trane heat pump installed 3 years ago. Even though it is still under warranty, it is still costing us a ridiculous amount of money in repairs, yearly!!! The fault has clearly been from the manufacturing facility but Trane will only replace the part. NOT labor... and NOT the coolant replacement which leaks out due to the faulty part! Our HVAC provider refuses to sell or install any future Trane units due to the ridiculous new policies, apparently the once solid company has been bought by bankers... and customer service and quality is no longer important.

We built a new home and installed a Trane propane HVAC unit because they are supposed to be better than others. Well, fast forward to December 2018. We have a 1 1/2 year old unit that is constantly breaking. First the pressure switch and board went out, then they replaced the igniters and a couple gas parts. Now another switch has went out and they replaced it. This unit has been broken continually since December 2018. Our installing company has been here sometimes on a daily basis, they have been wonderful through the whole process. Every time they fix something though, something else goes wrong. This has been so bad that the Field Service Representative from Trane came to see if he could help fix it. That was two breaks ago! I have contacted Tranes customer service and they have blamed it on the installing company and said they did not know what they were doing. LOL. It was the Trane service representative that said what parts to replace and how to fix it. Trane has said they will give us parts and we are responsible for the rest. This unit is broken more than it is working. We want a new unit! I am with anyone who files a class action lawsuit over these inferior units.

Built a new home in 2008 and had a TRANE HVAC installed. The AC coil leaked and was repaired within the first year. Now the unit is 8 yrs old and I am told that both the AC coil and the inside attic coil is leaking. Repairs will cost as much as installing a complete system, according to Smiths AC company. Im now shopping for a more reliable brand. Hopefully with American made parts.

On October 23 2019 Trane dealer from Ormond Beach FL installed Trane® 4TWR4036G1000 XR14 heat pump and Air Handler. According specifications on heat pump it must include Climatuff® compressor. The Climatuff® compressor is the only one Trane uses in its residential systems. Its durable, reliable, and highly efficient. That was the reason I decided to install Trane. My heat pump has a LG compressor. (Number part COM11968). When I ask my dealer why, they just told me they changed it without explanation. I do not know was it a bad unit or installation. They also changed evaporation coils. All in first week. When I called Trane customer service they told me last time they had such problem in August 2016. They advised me to tell my dealer to send unit back to distributor and get a new one. No warranty claims. No invoices for product and parts installation. My system did not pass city inspection because they did not put hurricane pad for elevation. I refuse to have Trane without Climatuff compressor. I am a widow living on VA pension and can not afford to pay for future repairs. I need second opinion from another Trane dealer and resolve this situation as soon as possible because it is affect my health.

Purchased Trane HVAC system in September 2014. I live in Southern CA on the coast where air conditioning and heating is rarely needed except for unseasonal cold and hot days. Went to turn the AC on in July 2018 and it did not work. Ultimately determined that there was no refrigerant/coolant in the unit. Was also told that there have been ongoing issues with the Trane unit/components breaking. In my case it may be the coil component. At a cost of $550 the unit was refilled with refrigerant and a sealer with the hope that the sealer fixes any potential leaks. We will see. I would not expect a central air conditioning unit that is rarely used to break down after 3 seasons of use.Updated on 09/29/2018: Two month update - the AC unit is not working again. The house is not cooling down. Grrr. I will update again after service/repair technician comes.

The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.

Bought a Trane 15 months and had several issues with the unit. We use LP for the heat, the company installed a natural gas unit. Unit quit cooling and the repair company said it was a leak in the evaporator coil. Price to repair $212.50. Unit cooled for a couple days and they came back out and said the condenser coil had a leak. Price to repair $999.00. This is the worst company and I recommend buying a Goodman over this crap. Called Trane and they did not want to do anything but offer some help on the 999.00 bill. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE!!!

I’m a master HVAC tech. I installed 2 Trane xl16 heat pumps in my in-law’s house in 2006. So far both inside coils blew out in the first two years and one of the replacement coils that was suppose to be of better construction just blew out in the same place the last one did. Although I can get the parts under warranty, I’m out $250 worth of 410a Freon, not to mention the time and aggravation. All I can say is what happened to Trane and where did their quality go? Obviously profit outweighs making a good product. It has gone downhill so bad that companies in my area that have sold them for decades quit selling them, including me.

I have Trane XV95 furnace installed 5 years ago. It start to fall apart now. Control board is replaced recently, the new control board uses 120 V for ignitor. I use Comfy service guy to install it. He just put the new control board and didnt tell me my old 80 V ignitor need to be changed to use the new 120 V ignitor. So in the three weeks, it burned out two ignitor until I found out this fact.I has really bad experience with Trane product and Comfy service. If you dont have knowledge about furnace, it is really easy to be ripped off from service guy. Imagine my furnace ignitors get burned and burned continuously just because service guy dont tell you the new control board need 120V ignitor instead of 80V ignitor, and you keep buying a 80V ignitor.

Purchased the Trane furnace 6 years ago. This summer when I came in the house from outside my whole house was full of smoke. I ran around looking for the fire and found nothing. A month later last week exactly when it got cold I went to run my furnace and it didnt work. When I went down and opened the panel I could smell the same smoke I smelt that day and there was my circuit board all black and melted. When I called the company who installed it (Masters) they came out and said the board was under warranty but the labor was going to be $300. Sounds cheap. But NO ONE can tell me why it caught on fire. So I told Masters I wasnt going to pay them to put in another circuit board because it could have BURNED MY WHOLE HOUSE DOWN. Their response was call Trane and let them deal with it. So I called Trane and the first question they ask is did I have it professionally serviced every year. I replied no but had heater coils replaced under warranty after just 3 years. Now I sit here waiting on Trane to tell me whats up and where we go from here. But I already know their answer and I told them dont even try and tell since I didnt have it serviced regularly its my fault, because had you WARNED me that if I didnt have it professionally serviced IT MIGHT CATCH FIRE I would NEVER have bought it. So after just 6 years here I sit with no furnace and no resolution. Now every time I call Trane, they say were working on it and well call you back. They have no intention of fixing it. So I called Masters back and said go ahead and replace the board and Ill pay the $300 BUT IF THE FURNACE CATCHES FIRE and burns down my house Im suing both Trane and you. The owner of Masters then says, NO THANKS. WERE NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN COMING BACK TO SERVICE IT. I said, Why are you worried it will catch fire? I mean if its safe whats the big deal? Both Trane and Masters heating and air are crooked and in this together to screw over the consumers knowing they GOT PROBLEMS they arent telling their buyers about when the purchase is made. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FURNACE MAKER AS both Trane and Masters could care less for our SAFETY and cares if we lose everything. Of course all they are going to say is THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. So I ask if you have had a circuit board melt or catch fire please let me know. I know I am not the only one with this SERIOUS problem.

Am extremely disappointed with Trane as a company and their products. I purchased a new system 8/2015 and made several attempts to register it and thought it was registered. I just learned from my dealer the registration did not go thru and I have to pay a lot of money to get a new coil for the inside part of the system. Purchased furnace and AC. Now 2.5 years later Trane says I have no warranty and I will have to pay all the expense. Even other types of junk has at least a year warranty on manufacturing defects. The coil has a hole in it. Which is obviously a manufacturing defect and Trane wont make it good. Product is not what it is advertised as. Its hard to stop a Trane?? Guess it would have to start first. I will never buy any other Trane products and will be sure no one in my family does either.

We built our house in 2010. Moved-in in Dec. 2010. In July of 2014 one of the Trane a/c units stopped working. The problem was apparently a bug crawled into a circuit box, fried itself and the part which was replaced by the a/c technician with a new circuit that was fully enclosed so it could not happen again. (Nice work on the design Trane). Sept 2014 another a/c stopped blowing cold air. The repair Technician said that the starter went bad so thats why the compressor was not working. So now another large bill to repair a 4 year old Trane a/c unit. $400 a few months ago and now $700 +. Not so happy with Trane right now. Of course none of the parts could be warranted. If youre looking for a dependable A/C, maybe you should bypass Trane.

I purchased a new Trane system XL16i May 2015. This May (2016) the unit was not working properly. The company that installed it first said it was the reversing valve that was not operating properly so they had to install another one. The installer ordered the compressor from Trane and it will take 5 days to get here another weekend w/o air. I called Trane and was informed that 5 days is their standard shipping. I had an XV20i heat pump installed with a Tam 8 air handler and the top of the line thermostat. This was a $12,000 purchase. The unit was installed two and a half years ago. Ive had nothing but continual and still ongoing problems. My installing dealer went out of business so Ive had to pay for labor during a time the labor should have been covered under warranty. To date Ive paid $1,000 in labor charges since installation, not to mention the constant headaches with the unit being down. Trane did refund me approximately $280.00 in labor charges a few months back. However, when I was offered that amount I expressed my displeasure with the amount and was told take it or leave it. When my dealer went out of business, I contacted Trane customer service asking what I should do and if there were any dealers in my area that knew how to work on these newer units. I was given a list of dealers (which I kept).Every dealer I called on the list told me they didnt service my area. So I was on my own. I called a local Trane dealer out of the phone book. He was very honest and told me his company didnt service these type of units due to their complexity. He referred me to another dealer. I was told this dealer sells a lot of high-end equipment and they know what they’re doing. The dealer I was referred to has been to my house 4 times since April 2016, just as recent as 3 days ago.As Im writing this review my unit is down again. On their first service run I was told my outside unit need a software upgrade to 2.0 and a new personality module which I paid them to install. The unit ran fine during the summer, but now that its cold problems have returned, and as I stated it is down again. This unit is clearly a LEMON. Since it obviously cant be repaired correctly, I want Trane to furnish me a new unit installed. I have a stack of work orders, which I previously submitted to Trane. Of course I have even more now.

Moved into our new home and had a new Trane HVAC System installed two-years-ago. About a week ago, my wife and I noticed that the heater began making a rumbling noise when starting. A couple of days later, the rumbling startup noise grew worse and became a constant loud noise resembling a playing card in bike spokes. We called the authorized Trane servicer who installed the unit in our home. The technician told us that the Blower Wheel broke away from the hub and needed to be replaced. The technician told us that we would be responsible for troubleshooting and labor cost to replace the part. After reviewing the Trane limited warranty; it is just that, very limited coverage for their obvious unreliable product. Ive owned several homes in my lifetime and never experienced a near new unit fail in such a short time. This is not the time have our heater breakdown when a historical cold front (single digits) is on us. The Trane model for this issue is 4TGB3F48A1000AA. After reading about similar failures to others, we are researching to locate a more reliable product and company.

We replaced our aging Goodman (18+ years) air conditioner with a new Trane
We replaced our aging Goodman (18+ years) air conditioner with a new Trane XR17 5 ton unit; in the process also changing the condenser, coils & furnace with Trane units. Our old unit was beginning to show its age with frequent breakdowns (but no compressor failure yet) so we decided to go with a installer recommended system. The units were installed by AC Advance of Houston, on February 3rd, 2018 - during winter. Total bill $8400. With the coming of summer in Houston, the air conditioner was switched on - and the ac compressor failed after just 1 week of usage, on 1st April 2018! Not quite what would be expected from a premium brand like Trane.Right now we are stuck in a limbo. I have requested that the ac be replaced by a new unit - since I consider that the unit was new enough when it failed that I should get a new one. The installer is willing to pick it up and install for free - if we can get one. The local distributor for Trane - Hunton Distribution - has shrugged it off by saying that at best we can get a compressor replacement. I have reached out to Tranes warranty replacement - and they are doing due diligence and thorough review of our request. Meanwhile we are sweltering in the Houston heat and humidity while we wait for them to decide on our request. I will update once I hear back from Trane.

I recently found it necessary to replace my 20 year old central HVAC. I contacted a local HVAC contractor in Denver for the job. They replaced my system with new a Trane furnace and A/C system. After waiting in 90 degree heat for 10 days for the equipment to be delivered and another 2 days for installation, when they flipped the switch - nothing! After another day of troubleshooting they discovered that a circuit board was defective! 8 days later, the new circuit board arrived. That finally got the A/C working. After a few days I noticed that the fan noise was really loud, constantly. After another service call, they determined that the fan controller was defective, and oh by the way, the heating was not working. Im sure it will take another 10 days to get a new controller. This is on a brand new, top of the line, $15k system. I strongly recommend that you consider another vendor for your HVAC. Trane clearly has quality control issues.

We purchased a new Trane A/C 16 months ago and have had a few small problems. Now our A/C has quit working due to a coolant leak. Paid $349 for a leak test only to find out the leak is in the evaporator coils in the air handler. The part is under warranty but labor to replace it will be $999. I spoke to a Trane representative thinking they should foot at least a portion of the bill because if their product worked correctly I would never be in this position. They adamantly refused to consider even paying anything, intimating that it was the environment or installation that caused the problem. I bought this house that had two XR14 4-1/2 ton Trane Split heat pumps that were installed in 2010. The first major issue was April 2017. The coil in the air handler corroded from dissimilar metal corrosion. $3000 later for a Trane Parent American Standard Air Handler. July 2017 same thing happened. The repair guy put in $400 worth of super seal to get us through so they would not have to replace the other air handler in the attic. Nov 2017 it died. $6500 for an American Standard split Heat pump replacement. Jan 2018 the original Trane Condensing unit GE ECM condensing fan motor failed is been warm so researching why Trane would use a variable speed motor in an application where the whole unit is a single speed and the condensing fan runs at single speed. The main difference (Wholesale $600) vs a $150 + $10 capacitor connected to your T1 & T2 terminals. My AC guy said that the wont get a computer code when the fan fails again. Im like DUHHHH! The compressor was running and the fan stopped. Thats how I know it failed. Why would I need a computer to tell me the P.O.S. TRANE unit has failed. I am not expecting much better out of the American Standard. I am sure they are all made in the same place with different labels slapped on them. I know some of the cheaper brands do the same thing from a rental property where my 12 SEER unit ran for over 20 years. Doesnt Take much to stop a Trane but it sure takes an act of God to get the parts for them.

We purchased this Trane about three years ago and very happy with it so far, it cools, almost too cool sometimes and I love the warmth in the winter. The installers put this on the roof so it is out of the way so no one will trip over it going around the house. I have had no issues with it at all. When this was put in the installers had to put in vents in the ceiling which makes a nice cool house, we only had floor vents before; we had a furnace and window coolers and this took care of both items. Because of this purchase we purchased new windows, nice additions to an old house.

New installation of furnace and heat pump/AC system installed in 2014. Heat pump compressor just went out Nov 2019. Part is warranted for 10 yrs, so that was covered, but labor was not. Expensive labor cost that is for sure. The installers who did the original installation commented that Trane had wiring issues with heat pumps late in 2014, and changed how it was connected at the unit. In fact this installer had trouble getting the replacement heat pump to function correctly, and had to call the Trane reps, and they walked him through the new method of wiring the pump. It was changed because it was causing the pump to cycle too often, and led to early failure. Hum...sounds like my pump. Installer said Trane will do nothing for you. Im angry that Trane knew they needed to change the wiring schematic and did not notify existing installations about it. I feel they are responsible for this issue on my unit.

So recently, i purchased a couple Trane air conditioning units for the home. I was downstairs testing the home for the new winter in our new home and noticed that one of our current furnaces that came with the duplex was failing to fire. Not only is this a fire hazard, but it means it could be a cold winter for our upper tenant. I examined both units and they both appeared worn and used and the other one was likely going to fail. I went to Trane.com and found a unit that I really wanted. Ended up with the XL95. They were a little pricey, I'll be honest. But their multi-speed blower, auto mode for the fan motor, and super high efficiency has been amazing so far. We've had them for a few months and Wisconsin is just starting to get cold. I got the home down to 60 degrees and wanted to see how quickly I could get the home warmed up to 70 degrees. Took me 10 minutes to get us there and maintain that temperature. Overall, I am overly satisfied with these units and my tenants will be as well.

Purchased a home with a Trane XV90 furnace, furnace is 7 years old and out of warranty, product failed at 6 years, after the tech spent hours on the phone with Trane tech support he figured out the furnace needed a new main circuit board to the tune of $1200. We had the furnace repaired, everything was fine for 14 months, went to turn on the heat this year to find out no warm air, called the furnace guy to come out and he explained the main board had failed again. This was after spending 2 more hours on the phone with Trane tech support, we called Trane corporate only to find out the replacement board is only warranted for 12 months, and Trane tried to claim they dont warranty replacement parts, the 12 month warranty is from the dealer. So, to cut an already long story short we now have to shell out another 1200 dollars to repair it again. I called Trane customer support and explained my situation, got a nice email response that said SORRY, GOOD LUCK. It would have been far easier for Trane to do the right thing and either replace the clearly defective part or at a minimum offer a prorated reimbursement, but no they dont care! Do yourself a favor, dont buy a Trane furnace, they dont stand behind their products and if anything goes wrong the replacement parts only have a 12 month warranty from the dealer, Trane tried to argue with me that they dont warranty replacement parts. HIDING BEHIND THEIR DEALERS. So much to Cant stop a Trane. Guess what? You can, and they dont care...

We had a new 3 1/2 ton heat pump unit installed in 2006. We paid $6035.00 for the heat pump and coil. We started having problems a year later. Every year after weve had problems. Graybeal Air Systems was the company we dealt with. After 5 years, right before the warranty ran out, they replaced the unit with a new one, but no longer honor a warranty. Every year since, we continue to have major repairs. Last year they diagnosed the expansion valve defective and wanted $900 to replace it. Were done. I contacted Graybeal and was told there was nothing more they could do but fix it as needed for the regular charge. I contacted Trane and was essentially told Sorry about your luck. We are again sitting in 90-degree heat with no AC. Im going to call another company to evaluate it but anticipate they suggest another unit. I guarantee it wont be a Trane. For our home we have purchased two Trane Air conditioners in last seven years. First one lasted only 5 years and I had replaced with another Trane Unit for upstairs bedrooms. It was big mistake. Second unit was installed on March 15, 2014. Annual maintenance contract was signed with installer. In last week of July 2015 AC compressor stop working. We have to sleep on the floor downstairs until new compressor was installed on August 3, 2015. July August are hottest months in Georgia. In April 2016, our air conditioner stop working again. Tech person diagnosed that indoor coil was leaking and it was replaced. Again in August 2016, compressor was stop working and we are without air conditioning in our upstairs bedroom for last 3 weeks. We are sleeping again downstairs floor for last 3 weeks.Thank God downstairs Tempstar AC unit still working next to Trane AC Unit for last 35 years without any issues. Now that is manufacture quality which I do not find in Trane Units that I have dealt in last seven years. I have to pay $160.00 for diagnosis. When I contacted Trane customer service at 1 800 945 5884 two weeks about their defective product and ask for replacement unit, I got around. They keep losing my supporting documents and I have to resubmit 4 times on email provided. Finally after two weeks, escalation specialist Jennifer ** contacted me to advise that company policy does not allow to replace unit and I have to spend my own money for labor cost. When I insisted then she offered me $500.00 maximum to repair unit.Any reasonable homeowner expect that their big investment in brand new AC unit would last only two years. Other brand name like my Tempstar still working after 35 years. My conclusion is based on my experience that Trane Units are manufactured poorly and lack quality control. Please do not buy Trane AC products, unless you want nightmare dealing with repair cost, discomfort and hassle with their customer service. The company does not stand by with its products.

I purchased my home early this year and the house is less than 5 years old
I purchased my home early this year and the house is less than 5 years old with two Trane Air Conditioner units. I received a 1-year buyers warranty for the house as part of the sales contract. As the summer heat started, we noticed the air conditioners were not working well. We contacted the warranty company for service. After a couple of checks including freon refill, they finally found out that there is a leakage in the main unit and the evaporator coil needs to be replaced. They said the unit is still under manufacturer warranty and asked me to directly contact Trane to receive a new evaporator coil and the warranty company agreed to follow up with the labor. I reached out to Trane but they said my warranty expired because I had to contact them within 90 days of purchasing the house. I have explained to them that I was never informed by anyone about this requirement, and I even did not know the brand of my air conditioner until there was a problem with it, but they did not accept. That is totally unreasonable, how can a home buyer know about this rule? This is just a way for them to get away from their warranty duties. I hope this review will help some people to know about this rule so that they can reach out to transfer the warranty within 90 days.

Purchased the new heat pump in 2014. It replaced a 25+ year old YORK system. Within a year the condenser developed a violent shaking and rattling during a storm. We called an American Standard recommended technician in our area and he said unit developed a leak. We got it fixed at our cost of $600. The unit also has a musty odor called stinky sock smell occasionally when we turn it on...It is disgusting so we installed an ultraviolet light again at our cost....Needless to say our other heater never had any shaking or smells. We contacted American Standard to try to figure out what the problem was with the shaking and smell. We got no answers and told us parts were under warranty but not labor... In 2019 the compressor failed, we replaced that to the tune of 1700 labor costs. A month later another part inside. Within a week a reverse coil part failed. WE contacted American Standard/TRANE to file a complaint regarding the unit and our costs to replace parts. We have maintained the unit and sent a 40 page pdf of a history of maintenance and repairs. So far there has been no response even though we have called several times to find out about our case. Lesson learned. Do not buy a new American Standard/Trane hvac.

I have 6 Trane units at my restaurant, 2.5 years old, I have had to replace condenser coil in one unit, no a compressor in another unit. Of course with commercial they only give a one year warranty, the units constantly back up with water. I thought I was buying the best, I have had 2 for their online thermostats go out at 500 a pop. Leaking freon, argggg, nightmare, I called the manufacturers rep about the parts going out on the systems and left with, Too bad so sad.

I had a unit installed 4 1/2 years ago. I paid over 7k for the unit installed. Since that time I have required someone coming out at least every 6 months for a new issue. Each time having extra cost and fees associated. Last month 500 bucks for an issue, this month a coil needs replaced. Although the cost of the coil itself is covered by Tranes warrenty, the cost is still almost 1300 in charges for labor and coolant replacement. I would never purchase another Trane. Be sure and negotiate a warrenty which includes all associated labor and service charges in a purchase of an a/c when getting one and dont get a Trane.

We purchased an American Standard/Trane HVAC unit in 2012 with a 5 year warranty. When they installed our furnace in 2012 they also installed the air conditioning coils but the outdoor unit was not installed until a year later. Therefore, the air conditioning coils were not in use until that time. Our AC failed less than 5 years later and the cause was the air conditioning coils. Not only were we without air conditioning during a record heat wave, we had to pay nearly 1200 in repairs. I have had a very bad experience with the Customer Escalation Department at Trane. They told me that even though the unit was clearly not in use for 5 years, they could not and would not provide any compensation for our costs. We chose American Standard because we thought we were purchasing from a good company who would stand behind their product. We were so wrong!

After spending over $16000 for two Trane A/C XL 20i units from Protocool Air Conditioning, 18 months later they said they made a mistake and billed me another $1000. In the first year, one unit stopped cooling and they could not find small leak. Even though it was under warranty, they just refilled it at different times, and I have had the problem every 4 months. I called a different dealer, and he found the leak and has to replace the COIL for another $800 for labor, which is no longer under warranty. Also, in this same period of time, the entire duct system filled up with water from condensation and cost me another $1800 to repair and replace. I have since learned this is a common problem with these units. Trane offers no service help at all. They are impossible with which to get in touch. They only send you to another dealer, which is hit or miss whether they know what they are doing.I suggest you do not waste your money on these expensive units when a Ruud or Rheem unit for a quarter of the price will operate fine with less maintenance. My old Ruud lasted over 15 years with very little maintenance. I also suggest you do not deal with Protocool Air Conditioning in South Florida. I still feel they overcharged me and then gave bad repair service. If anyone would like to talk to me personally or see my Trane A/C units, I will be glad to talk to you before you waste your money.

Trane Heat Pump Model 63256PF1F - I had this unit installed in the Winter of 2008 and have had 10 service calls on it during that time frame. Number 11 will be done this week. When the unit was 2.5 years old, the compressor went out. I had to pay for the service call, Freon and incidentals. Last year, the unit had issues during the winter. A leak developed causing the heat pump to quit working and all heat came from auxiliary heat strips. My electric bill soared to $1,100.00 while the former highest bill had been $400.00. I have lived in this house for 9.5 years and know what to expect for electric bills. The service technicians made five visits before supposedly repairing the problem. I was billed $1,800.00 for these visits. Each time they came out, Freon was added and charged to the bill without ever fixing the leak. Now this winter, I have the same problem. I suspected that there was an issue (the unit was running on heat strips a lot more frequently) so I called for service. The tech said everything was operating as it should. I paid the $80.00 fee but was not satisfied with his findings. I contacted a different company for a second opinion. They too said everything was working fine. Less than a week later, I awoke to a 7 degree difference between thermostat and room temp. I called them back out and they said it was the thermostat. $150.00 was the charge for this visit. Two and one half days later, the same thing occurred. This time they checked the Freon and found it to be low. Four pounds were added (more money) but the tech said he would have to come back to try to find the leak. That was last Monday. I am anxiously awaiting to hear what the problem is this time.I am at their mercy. The unit still has four years warranty remaining on all parts but I cannot keep putting money into this lemon. If anyone knows of any recourse to Trane, please advise. I have spent over $3,000.00 in service calls, repair costs and added utility costs because of this unit.

My home in SW Florida was built in 1967. Any HVAC system will have a challenge keeping up with the humidity and high temps here. My Trane AC system is 6 years old. It performs pretty well for the most part. I use cheap filters that allow the system breath and I replace them every month. Don’t waste money on expensive filters unless you have serious allergies. Thick filters make the AC work harder and will wear out the equipment.General maintenance is easy and I am diligent about keeping the outside unit clean. I use a spray bottle with watered down Dawn dish soap and a garden hose. I regularly clear the drain pipe with my shop vac. I had a routine check-up recently from my home maintenance provider (HomeTech - I highly recommend) and asked the tech why cold air is blowing out of the crevices around the maintenance doors and bolts on my air handler. Plain and simple, it is a design flaw. He said he sees it all the time on Trane units.I called Trane to find out if there was a replacement part for the casing or a recommended remedy. It was a runaround... All they would tell me is to call my dealer to evaluate the problem. That would cost me $119 for somebody to come out and say, “yep, there’s cold air leaking from the air handler into your garage. Ill call Trane and get back to you.” Parts are covered, but there was no evidence of parts available. Please! My solution was Gorilla tape and bubble wrap to cut down the loss of cold air. It worked, but it really shouldn’t be so difficult to get a straight answer and a fair solution. I paid a lot of money for my AC system. I didn’t expect to be patching it myself. There is a lot of room for improvement.

We installed 2 new air conditioner units the end of January 2015. We paid over $12,000 for the new units and installation. In a service inspection performed June 2016 it was found one of the coils in one of the units was leaking refrigerant. The cost to repair this was $1028.32. Per Trane/American Standard even though the units were only 18 months old they would not cover the repair under warranty. The company that serviced them said they have seen several of their new units fail the same way as ours. I would not recommend their product to anyone at this point. They dont stand by their products.

I am done dealing with Trane. Turns out Nothing can stop a Trane except bad customer service. Purchased a packaged rooftop HVAC unit about a year ago. It suddenly stopped working. Inspection showed the fan shroud had not been installed correctly at the factory (missing a rivet) and in time it drop down, caught the fan and ripped it from the remaining anchors. Fan & motor also damaged.Contact my installer who informed me that the shroud, fan & motor would be covered but not labor ($480) & the top cover (all bent up) because it is not a functional part of the unit (ignoring the fact it hold the fan assembly & shroud). So, add $800 to the cost of the unit. I contacted Trane myself & escalate the issue. They did not care, simply quoting the warranty. I gave up, did my best to bend the top back into place, bought a rivet gun, and fixed it myself in about two hours. This is the 4th Trane I have purchased in my remodel business. It is the last. Plenty of other options.

We bought our Trane unit about 6 years ago... First, let me start by saying that Tranes slogan Nothing runs like a Trane is accurate! Although, a bit misleading because this thing runs worse than anything weve had previously! First, the compressor went out a year after install, charged for freon and told it was a defect... Trane still fought me on trying to charge for the compressor! Next, thermal switch went out, was told we dont change our filters enough... What, twice a month aint good enough for a freakin Trane?!? Now, weve got clogging in the Condensation drain system... Enough condensation to flood my sons bedroom! Reason for the clog: Reduced ID on the drain tube and a negative gravity feed which collects sludge and clogs. Dont know what school of thought these guys have, but honestly would it hurt to have a free flowing drain system under the tray? Instead of relying on these bozos, Im going to just retube the entire drain tray and fix their crap right. When youre looking for an A/C unit, look here, look there, look everywhere but stay the heck away from Trane! Theyre bad news, problematic and worthless!

I really like my Trane dealer. But… The dealer advised me that Trane is not the Trane of old. They have issues in quality and design. I need two new units and am considering Carrier or another brand. What is worse is that the customer service reps are terrible. One last comment. Before you spend a lot of money on a new HVAC system you should air seal your attic. Remove the insulation and seal every hole and joint where the drywall touches wood. Do not add insulation on top of existing insulation in a leaking attic. I spent an extra $2k to do this and replaced the cardboard rafter baffles with corrugated plastic ones from DCI. They are great and brown recluse spiders don’t like plastic. The result is that my cooling costs was reduced by at least 30%. The existing HVAC system now runs less and should help reduce the maintenance cost of a new system.

Had new Trane XL20i Heat Pump installed 10/20/2010. July 2014 Air Handle evaporator leaked, repaired. Then Condenser became erratic, low-pressure issues, numerous service calls, more parts replaced. Left for summer to NJ from FL, came back, low-speed compressor fried. Trane will not assist. Installer is a good company, and Trane simply tells us what we need to hear.First they tell you the service company need to contact distributor then service company tells you that not the way it works. Mentioned to Trane representative Alex, that the inconsistencies between service company understanding and Tranes position leaves me with no options. I have been experiencing continual compressor failures with one of the four Trane units at my AZ home. Trane warranties the parts but not the labor, which is costing me a fortune (4-5 hours every time). The compressor that blew 8/1/13 was replaced in 2012 and new in Oct. 2004. Seems like Trane should bring me a whole new machine and cut their losses too. I am very unhappy with Trane and their support. Replaced old furnace in our new home. We had new duct work and the Trane v95 put in, 4 months later the ductwork fell down. Then the burners went out on the furnace, had to be replace after 3 months of use, said our basement was too damp. Had to have it serviced again for continuously running and not heating wasting my propane. They said it was our fault we didnt buy the extra warranty. Not everyone has the money to get that. Once again the burners are not heating one year after repair. Each time this has cost me 179.00, the part was under warranty. I am pretty handy but this is ridiculous. They were rude to us and blamed us. My galvanized ductwork was replaced with the foil foam stuff and I had to make many repairs from the mice eating it. Not to mention it keeps falling down heating and cooling my crawl space. We live in the country. They had a terrible time getting it to work at first. That should have been my first clue... I called home depot about it many times and the service company. When they did come out I ended up doing some of the work. Dont have an order number, bought it through home depot. OH, they are no longer using the company that installed my furnace. Too many complaints...

So much for this reputable brand. New furnace and AC in 09. Flashing a draft pressure error code. Ran and passed all logical checks and even replaced the pressure switch (because cheap and easy) for the heck of it. Besides that ran all other troubleshooting and measure tests. All report fine but the thing still has issues in that it runs sporadically. Paid Freds $135 to tell me they dont know what the problem is because everything checks out. Supposedly their $99 initial trip/diagnostic fee covers for 30 days if they need to come back. Two days later and with 53 degree house, they say they spoke with Trane and said to try another pressure switch although doubts that is the problem, and or replace the board to the tune of around $800.00 installed, even though the board checks fine too. Really? Already paid this company to say dont know what is wrong and fixed nothing. Now they want to charge more labor to fix something that they dont know if even is the problem? And of course we find out the original part is not under warranty, but must have had issues because it is obsolete and has been changed a time or two since. So much for reliability and fair service companies. With all due respect to Jim the kind service tech (and is as miffed as we are) but the companies charge policies are out of line, and this comes from people in this business, that are unfortunately not local or Id be using them. And, it took 3 phone calls to Freds to even get a call back for service!

Took weeks for a part. They would not rush to help me, my wife and mother in law who had health issues. They were ** on the phone. This unit only 3 years old. 200 for shipping, 500 for labor and still waiting for part November 11, 2017. O-rings in the heat exchanger are burnt out like the space shuttle Challenger in 1984. This causes the furnace to run hot and will not lit so now youre in the cold. Check it out on youtube. If you want to be hot in the summer, cold in the winter with a big repair bill Take my advice. I purchased a high-end TRANE for roughly $8000 a little over 4 years ago and while still under warranty the coil has been leaking and I ran out of Freon. To fill the unit up to get through the summer I spent about $700 for the coolant. The warranty doesnt cover labor, so even if I order a new coil under warranty, it will cost a fortune to install it, with no guarantee it will perform any better. My HVAC person said theres roughly 350,000 units with bad coils right now. Is there an agency I can call, like an insurance commissioner in our state? I cannot recommend purchasing a Trane air conditioner. Ive had problems with my Trane air conditioner since my purchase. The air handler was full of mold after the first month of service and did not pass City inspection. The air handler had to be replaced in order to pass City inspection. A fluorescent bulb had to be added to the air conditioner which is not part of the engineering design to prevent mold. The main power switch corroded after the first year in service. Then the thermostat went bad. Trane customer service does everything possible not to warranty their parts. Tranes customer service definitely does not put its customers first, and they are extremely difficult to deal with. The experience is beyond upsetting. I would not recommend anyone to purchase a Trane air conditioner. Trane makes a poor quality air conditioner and the value and reliability is not there for its price.

The seller of our house put in a brand new Trane TAM7 with an XL18i just to sell the house. Less than a year into the house the unit developed a leak at the evaporator coil. Took several days in the middle of summer to get it fixed (labor/410a not included). Then within a couple months the time delay fuse blew twice in a row - the tech eventually replaced it with a similar rated automotive fuse. Now this summer the condenser coil went out and after getting that fixed the blower ECM has died. Over and over, the system keeps breaking in multiple places... Absolute piece of crap. A unit this expensive should last care free for years - not break down 4 times in the first 5 years.

I purchased my Trane in 2013 from a local heating and air contractor. It was the greatest purchase I could have made. I live in SW Virginia, which means it gets pretty hot in summer and cold in winter as we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. It's been known to get down to zero around here upon occasion. This really is a wonderful unit. It has a 10 year warranty which is really good. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend or to buy it again. Love it! It's Energy Star rated and has brought my electric bill down considerably. It was only $113.00 last month down from over $200.00! If you are looking to buy a furnace or heat pump I would highly suggest you look at Trane first. It's the best one out there by far!

In April 2007 I purchased a Trane residential HVAC system for $8500 from Home Depot. The authorized Trane installer at that time was McCarthy Services. They installed the system and “completed” the install on April 9, 2007. I was given a certificate of warranty by McCarthy that covered from April 9, 2007 to April 9, 2017. Several months later I was looking for the inspection certificate from the county and found that there was not one in my paperwork. I contacted the county to get a copy. They did not find a record of a permit issued for the installation of my HVAC system. I contacted McCarthy and informed them that they did not get a permit for the install and did not have a county inspection. McCarthy was issued a permit on May 13, 2008 and had the inspector come out. The install failed inspection. They made some changes to the system, and again it failed. Finally, on July 17, 2008, the install passed inspection by the county. On July 1, 2017, the AC failed. A tech looked at it and said the compressor had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the coil also needed to be replaced as the new compressors use a different kind of freon and are not compatible with that coil. The cost was to be $5975. I called Trane and explained that the original installation did not pass inspection until July 17, 2008 so my 10-year warranty should go from July 17, 2008 to July 17, 2018 and this compressor/coil replacement should be covered by the warranty. They told me to take a hike. I paid for the install out of pocket and filed a complaint with Trane. The Trane customer service person said they could not do anything. I escalated it and that person basically told me to stick it.I am a home inspector. We used to rate Trane and Carrier as two of the best HVAC systems. We typically tell our customers that any major appliance that is 10 years old could be ready for a replacement in the near future so they should start planning. I have seen AC units that are 20 years old still running fine. More and more we are hearing horror stories about Trane HVAC systems. I no longer recommend Trane to anyone and now suggest Carrier.Trane seems to have abandoned their commitment to quality and their customer service sucks. I can attest to both. It seems that the one thing that can easily stop a Trane is a few years. So, I decided to file a suit against Trane in the hope that they would at least negotiate some partial payment to me for this replacement (which was a Trane only because if it was a Carrier I would have no chance at any reimbursement). I filed suit in small claims court in my county. I heard nothing from Trane and expected them to be a no-show on the day of court. Instead, they sent a hot-shot lawyer from Washington DC to fight me. The case was moved to regular court and a trial date was set. I had to file a document called a Bill of Particulars stating my complaint. Their hot-shot lawyer filed a 10-page reply referencing a whole bunch of cases and provided 11 reasons why I should not get my money. I am certain that this has cost Trane more than the $5000 I was looking for. This attorney did not even ask me if I was willing to take some other amount to make me happy and drop the case. They are clearly really serious about not giving a crap about their customer. Please, don’t ever buy a Trane.

My HVAC service man has just left after sharing the good news that yet another expensive fix is in store for me because of my Trane. My system was installed 5 years and 6 months ago, and wouldnt you know it, my leaking evaporator coil is toast and the warranty is... well yes... 5 years. This another in a long list of failures, repairs, bad contactor, bad capacitor, blown fuses, indoor unit fan not assembled correctly from the factory with evidence that the set screw was screwed down on the round instead of the flat of the shaft (that was a nice sound in the middle of the night btw), coolant added several times during the last 3 years until today finally discovering a huge leak in the evap coil. I guess it finally made its way from a slow leak to a deluge. Last fill lasted 24 hours. This is ridiculous. Stay away from Trane, please!

Trane dealers refuse to offer us an extended warranty on our equipment, but
Trane dealers refuse to offer us an extended warranty on our equipment, but from what I just read on the Trane website, Renewal is at the sole option of Trane Standard Warranty Company. So, which is it? Why are we getting the run around? Apparently, you can pick and choose whomever you want to offer warranties to? Why not just be honest on the Trane website and save the consumer a lot of grief? Dorothy ** with Customer Service was nothing but extremely rude to my husband today (10/01/14) as all we are trying to do is get an extended warranty for our furnace and air conditioning unit and we have received nothing but grief. We were told authorized dealers apparently can choose whether or not to offer extended warranties, so we are between a rock and hard place as dealers that are close enough to service us - will not offer us an extended warranty - aka no one will take our money and now I realize its actually up to Trane - weve been lied to. Do you actually even extend warranties? Trane says that there is nothing they can do so I guess after 5 years - we are on our own - even if we want to pay for an extended warranty? Apparently, Trane cares nothing about their reputation or the customer b/c these sites are currently FULL of complaints. My husband and I have been working to get this accomplished for months now (expires 10/04/14). According to the Trane website, the independent Trane dealer is committed to the best customer satisfaction - I assume your home office is as well. This cannot be farther from the truth as no one is willing to assist us. In addition, my husband and I have to take very valuable time out of our days to deal with this - which bewilders us both considering you are committed to the best customer satisfaction and all. Just like they say... Nothing runs from a customer like a Trane...

Very please with heat pump installation and operation. Power bill dropped greatly. We love it. And so cool in summer too! It is very quiet. They had the concrete pad to stand the pump on right with them. Cleaned up very well before leaving.

XL18I AC system - Purchased and had the unit installed in Dec 2007 in a new house. The first year I went through a summer 2008 it did not cool properly. Had to configure the temp shutoff in the attic unit. The 3rd year 2010, had to replace the circuit board in the blower/condenser coil in the attic. The 5th year 2012 had to replace a relay on the blower/condenser unit in the attic. The 6th year 2013 the capacitor had to replaced in the outside unit. The 7th year 2014 the capacitor set had to be replaced again. The 8th year 2015 the condenser coils had to be replaced along with the expansion valve and refrigerant. This year (the 9th) 2016 I have had to have service person in again. He originally replaced the switching valve and the expansion valve and it worked the weekend and then went out again. Service person came in and pulled the expansion valve and it was plugged with trash. Installed a filter drier and is still not cooling. This is the biggest POS I have ever owned in my life. Warranty is about to run out and I have had it. Labor and freon cost are killing me.

We purchased a Trane heat pump in 2005 for a new residence. On September 18, 2011, the compressor failed. We called the installing company and was told that a new compressor would be $1600.00. I called the Trane Customer Service number and was told by a representative that there was nothing they could do. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was told no supervisor will speak to you. I will be calling again today.

Bought a brand new unit 2-1/4 years ago. Selected an installer from Tranes own website. After 2-1/4 years of service the unit the condenser coil (aluminum) got a pin-hole leak. Installer wanted $2000.00 to fix it!!!! And THIS was under warranty! Trane offered to help by paying 15%. We went a different route and will NEVER EVER EVER EVER. Not for our homes or our commercial buildings NEVER EVER. I highly suggest you avoid Trane at all costs. They are trash. The 10 year parts warranty is useless since the part is of almost no value. The labor and the refrigerant is where all the costs are. AVOID!

OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 20
OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 2011. In July 2012, returned from vacation to find that fan had quit working. Fixed in 2 days. In July 2014, the CleanEffects quit working - diagnosed as a bad door which contains the electronics. Waited 2 weeks for part. Called installer who said the Trane was having a problem supplying the part as they had changed to a new company to manufacture the units and parts for the CleanEffects. Installer said that he was trying to get local distributor to provide the door from a unit in stock but to date that has not been accomplished.I sent email to Trane and received response stating that they hoped to have backlog of parts orders caught up by mid-August 2014. My concern and disappointment with Trane stems from the fact that the company and its distributors appear quite ready to sell CleanEffects units on hand knowing full well they cannot support the product and are at the same time ignoring needs of current owners of the units. Trane seems to have a problem maintaining parts inventories for their products. I would certainly advise anyone to steer clear of buying the CleanEffects air cleaner as Im not convinced that it does much of anything when it does work.

10 years ago we had a Trane heat pump and indoor unit installed, we didnt buy the extended warranty because Trane appeared to be a solid brand. Literally each year during a/c season weve had to replace some portion of the indoor and/or compressor units. Weve had a circuit board short out because a lizard found a way onto the compressor electronics box. Weve replaced 3 master control boards in the inside unit and numerous other circuit boards and sensors. The system has not been reliable and has cost us as much in repairs as we paid for it originally. The Trane website talks about all the extensive testing they do but they seem to overlook basic things. It doesnt seem that we should have to replace this many electronics each time we start the a/c season.

I own my own home now for 20 yrs. The builders a/c was not to my liking, to many breakdowns, so I had a Trane installed. I now have it over 10 yrs and have not had one service call except for the yearly maintenance service to keep it running at maximum precision. The outside unit surprisingly, runs quietly, even after 10 1/2 yrs. If and when I have to replace my present A/C, I would definitely get a Trane a/c again.

I read a lot of these complaints, and some are easy to fix the problem. Example if your going thru ignitors, have your tech check the ground on the unit and maybe the house. Should cure that. Some say on high heat it overheats and shuts down and starts again. Ok duct may be undersized, filter clogged, A-Coil clogged with pet hair, dirt, etc. As far as brands go, Trane doesn't seem to have the class actions like a lot of them do. Believe it or not, it is not the evil equipment you may think, it might have an easier explanation. If you have one that works for a while quits and two hours later, the drain trap is clogged. When it finally drains down it allows the pressure switch to close and works till it's full of water again. Lighten up people… The dealers don't want it breaking down on you either…

We are an HVAC contractor in California and have been in business for 40 years. In the last 3 years, we have seen more coil problems than in all the previous 37 years put together. Trane is not admitting to people that they have had a huge problem with quality control. Unfortunately, we are the middle-man on these issues and customers get upset when we have to charge money for our labor, refrigerant and welding materials to replace these coils. Trane gives nothing towards these costs. No wonder Americans are upset about so called American made products. We are tired of getting blamed for bad manufacturing. When you are a small business in America these days, you get squeezed between big government and big business. America, wake up and start spending money locally or this trend will continue and we will become an oligarchy, not a republic!

I called the company that the extended warranty is with and was told the tech had the night off and wouldnt be able to help me until after 2 pm the next day. What kind of service is that? I purchased Trane and paid more money because I wanted something that would last not break down 5 months later.

In July 2014, I purchased a Trane 4 ton air conditioner and air handler. In July 2017, the coil developed a leak and I spent $1150 in labor cost to install new coil and $300 to replace refrigerant even though the coil was under warranty. In August 2019, the new coil also developed a leak. I had to pay $850 in labor to install my 3rd coil and $390 to replace refrigerant that leaked out. Replacing both coils under warranty cost me a total of $2690. My service technician from AA American Air Conditioning told me that this is a common problem with Trane coils. I called Trane Customer Service and was immediately told that they would not compensate me for my expenses even though they are selling defective coils. Customer Service told me to have my service technician request a visit by a Trane field representative. He tried to do this but was told that the customer (me) has to contact Trane Customer Service to request a visit by a company field representative. I am in a Catch 22 situation and Trane is giving me the runaround. They clearly do not want to take responsibility for their defective coils and they have a “customer be damned” approach to customer service.

Built a new house and installed a new TRANE heat pump, finished in fall of 2019. We started using the AC this summer. After 2 months it stopped working. The aluminum Chinese evaporator coil failed with a massive leak on the hottest week of the summer. Not even a year old and it needs a new coil. It will not hold refrigerant for even a day. AVOID TRANE AND CHINESE COILS.

Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013. Never used since house has wood heat, electric heat pumps are costly and A/C not necessary, Purchased for home re-sale. Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it wont pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks high tech. Too bad it cannot function.

Trane XR15. Terrible Unit. My unit was installed in August of 2018 - biggest mistake I have ever made with a capital purchase. I bought the filtration system for $1500 and that has never worked. I had to buy 6 house air cleaners. I tried to return the unit after 1 year because it had NO dust whatsoever on it but they refused. The heating works just fine. The a/c is a constant nightmare. It just never cools except at night when the temperature goes down. I am out $10,000 and I am going to have to replace this unit because it is absolute junk. I keep having repair come out who find nothing wrong with the unit. So they have disconnected the $1500 air filtration system to see if this will help with cooling the air. I think I am going to call a couple of attorneys and see if they can help me to get a new unit ---- not from Trane but make Trane pay.

I was told by Trane rep the coil part is not covered by warranty because is over 2 years. We have to paid a/c company full price to replace the coil. Now after 3 and half months later its go out again. Many people telling us the Trane coil part is not quality part, broke very easy in the short time. I am extremely upset with Trane a/c unit. 2012 Trane heat pump lemon - We purchased this through Lowes 8 months ago. We use wood heat in winter so the breaker is shut off 4 months. So far, its 7 attempts to fix error messages. Trane sent rep from corporate office and he fought with GM of Lowes in the living room saying he is so busy with these calls and do not bother him again, to just call service tech. Thats 7 attempts in 8 months. Please, if you are having problems with Trane, lets all get together by email and find a litigation attorney. Im afraid when warranty is up. I have read stories of people replacing coil every year at $1300 a shot. I have Trane xl21 and ad I type. Im waiting for another Trane repair guy? Lowes has done nothing besides the normal, Im so sorry crap. It shuts off with different Err messages. The last time it happened, I thought the dogs had to be dead when I opened the door. We live in North Florida and depend on ac.

Trane XV90 Furnace is a Bummer. This furnace was installed 7 years ago.
