Consumers Original Complaint: No resolution for: Brand new installed on 20 Aug 2020, Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise. We have a Brand New - installed on 20 Aug 2020 - Trane FURNACE (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) making unacceptable unhealthy noise from the Blower Motor and Wheel. Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **.We contacted the Local Authorized Installer the day after the installation to complain about the noise. On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house - the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees. On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was not normal and sounded like metal on metal. They reported that information to the Local Authorized Installer Company Headquarters. On 21 September, the Local Authorized Installer informed me that they had ordered a replacement Motor and Blower Wheel. On 23 September the Installer Company confirmed the parts ordered. Today, 29 September, the Local Authorized Installer stated that they would not install new/replacement parts because Trane Corp HQ would not give them credit for the parts or for a replacement system. Moreover, Trane Corp HQ told the Local Authorized Installer that the noise was normal for this model. We live in a split-level house. The Furnace is in the center of the lower level. The metallic sound travels straight up the intake vents and can be heard in all three bedrooms. I measured the sound on app Sound Meter with results of Decibel (DB) ratings of: Average 74 BD, Max 76 DB when the Air-Conditioner is on (Cooling) and Average 65BD, Max 69 DB with just the fan blowing.Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **: I called Trane Corp customer service department 3 times to request for the Specifications on the Sound Ratings for this model. That office informed me that they do not have that information as they do not have any technical information. I am a senior citizen and a disabled veteran. The noise has elevated my blood pressure and has caused my tinnitus (ringing in the ears) to be a continual headache. No resolution in unacceptable. Please help.Trane Corp Response: 1. Trane Corp refused to honor the warranty to replace the Trane Furnace (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) with - any other model that has an acceptable noise level. 2. Trane Corp refused to publicize the sound ratings of all of their products, even when specifically requested as a matter of public health.3. Trane Corp refused to provide basic technical specifications - so that customers can make an informed purchase.

So recently, i purchased a couple Trane air conditioning units for the home. I was downstairs testing the home for the new winter in our new home and noticed that one of our current furnaces that came with the duplex was failing to fire. Not only is this a fire hazard, but it means it could be a cold winter for our upper tenant. I examined both units and they both appeared worn and used and the other one was likely going to fail. I went to Trane.com and found a unit that I really wanted. Ended up with the XL95. They were a little pricey, I'll be honest. But their multi-speed blower, auto mode for the fan motor, and super high efficiency has been amazing so far. We've had them for a few months and Wisconsin is just starting to get cold. I got the home down to 60 degrees and wanted to see how quickly I could get the home warmed up to 70 degrees. Took me 10 minutes to get us there and maintain that temperature. Overall, I am overly satisfied with these units and my tenants will be as well.

Replaced our 30-yr-old furnace with a new Trane furnace XT95 in Canada. This was installed on Feb. 20, 2013. The heating is poor. We have a finished basement and it never gets above 58 degrees F. When I sit on my couch just above the furnace, it feels like I`m riding on a train. Have had numerous service calls but they don`t know what`s the matter. Theyve changed motors, adjusted parts and used their diagnostics tools and this is the installers. Now have to wait for the big experts from Trane. I was told by the company that sold and installed the furnace that they were coming about 2 weeks before. I even contacted Trane company myself. Still waiting .

Custom built my home in 2008 and had 3 Trane heat pumps installed. Within 3 years 2 evaporator coils leaked. Trane replaced parts but not labor or Freon. One year later one of the same coils started leaking and needed to be replaced. Trane refused to supply parts but agreed to a cash settlement. Two months ago the other unit’s evaporator coil started leaking plus the coil that was previously leaking and replaced started leaking again.Trane refused to honor anything at first but after much pursuing on my part agreed to a one-time cash payment of $1200. I decided to spend $ to replace the entire two air handlers rather than just the evap coil. Since there was no conditions in the Trane $1200 offer I replaced the handlers with a different manufacturer. Trane refused to supply the parts. Now they rescinded their $1200 because I replaced everything not just the coil. Makes no sense to me.

September 24, 2011, we purchased the entire Trane Duel Fuel System from McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning Service of Virginia for $10,000. This included a variable speed 2-stage furnace, top-of-the-line Trane heat pump, new coils, and a whole house humidifier. The system worked for a year. In September 2012, we started to get error messages on the thermostat. Since calling McCrea to fix this system, they have been here seven (7) times. The problems were no outdoor temperature reading, the system not being able to switch from heat pump to furnace when the temperature dropped below 35 degrees, and the humidifier stopped working. Most of these issues are related to a defective relay panel, which Trane apparently doesn’t keep in stock, or they break quite often and they can’t keep them in stock. The system still does not work as advertised and has not worked correctly for five (5) months. I do have a service contract with McCrea, and all repairs have been under warranty, but the system still doesn’t work correctly.

I purchased my Trane in 2013 from a local heating and air contractor. It was the greatest purchase I could have made. I live in SW Virginia, which means it gets pretty hot in summer and cold in winter as we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. It's been known to get down to zero around here upon occasion. This really is a wonderful unit. It has a 10 year warranty which is really good. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend or to buy it again. Love it! It's Energy Star rated and has brought my electric bill down considerably. It was only $113.00 last month down from over $200.00! If you are looking to buy a furnace or heat pump I would highly suggest you look at Trane first. It's the best one out there by far!

We need a Lemon Law for Trane equipment! We built our new home in 2005 and installed two Trane heat pump systems. We have had repeated equipment failures and are about to replace our 4th indoor coil! I work for the major electric utility in Northwest Florida. We work closely with all the local heating and cooling dealers in our area. Without some sort of proper resolution to this continual problem, I will never recommend another Trane product to both our dealers as well as our customers. Our employees are considered the Energy Experts and feel it is my responsibility to be truthful and forthcoming to the public about the poor quality/service provided by Trane. Consumers beware!

Presently the unhappy owner of a Trane XE 90 - which was reported to be the best available by several dealers at the time of purchase. Over a period of the most recent 6 years this Trane unit has consumed $2,061.50 in parts and labor costs which consisted of a blower motor, four control boards, a flame rollout switch, a heat exchanger, a new thermostat and, just yesterday, $339 for the (20 minutes actual labor time) replacement of a $29.72 igniter. The control board was constantly being diagnosed, by Trane service representatives, as the problem with erratic heat and blower start up. After the third control board replacement, I contacted the White Rodgers Engineer that designed the board and he arrived our home, removed the board, installed a new one then took two of the old boards to their lab. Findings were that there is something else going on with the furnace so they contacted Trane.Trane sent their service representative to check our furnace out - after which a new heat exchanger was installed along with a flame rollout switch. The furnace has not run right for 6 years now and just yesterday it quit igniting. The local Trane repair service charged me $75 for a part that was priced by an internet retailer at $29.72. The labor cost was $309.28 for the technician who arrived at 3:50 p.m. and was out of our driveway at 4:15 p.m. Needless to say, this is $742.27 per hour which is 3.7 times the hourly cost of the surgeon that did my triple heart bypass surgery. I agree that Trane, and their service network, are probably the poorest example of product reliability and service on the U.S. market. I am of the belief that Trane owners are victims of being sold a bad product that technicians can not properly repair and Trane should be held accountable to their product owners as defendant in a class action law suit.

Trane XL14i heat pump installed by another contractor the building used when my home was built in 2007. Noisy. Changed service companies and they immediately fixed the problem. 16 round was reduced to 10 inch round and was starving the unit. Also added a second cold air return. Unit runs flawlessly (has an XL90 gas furnace attached). No problems at all. This is my second Trane and incidentally, the first was installed by Capital heating and Air. Great company. It really is all about the install.

We replaced our Amana heat pump, which was undersized, with a Trane. While the Trane works, it is so noisy. It keeps me up at night. It wakes me up at night. I cant hear my tv when its running. It sounds like a D9 Cat working hard. Trane sends out a rep who says its within company standards. Im at my wits end with this Trane heat pump. What can I do. We cant afford another 13000.00 to replace the Trane.

We installed two Trane XLi20 units five years ago. The first floor unit has performed flawlessly. The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Id love to join in.

I bought a new Xi15 heat pump and furnace on 16 Jul 09 and the thing hasnt worked right more than a few days at a time since I bought it. I had to have gas serviced two times since install--the first time was just days after the annual service was done and nothing was found wrong. The first time, the tech didnt have enough gas and said that hed be back (yep, he came back the next year for the service and had to fill it again). I had the annual service done in July and ran the AC for two days. I just decided to turn on the heat a couple of days ago and it didnt work again. Every time I turn the unit on, after a couple of months, it doesnt work. Its an $8,700 piece of **.The tech came out Friday again and said that the fan motor is bad and said that it will be $328.75 labor to replace--should take all of an hour. Anyway, Ill never do business with Dicks or Trane again. Mike **, the sales guy, lied about the warranty and Dicks tried to scam me on the annual service that was free. Trane doesnt even want to discuss the issues and refers me back to Dicks so they carry the same reputation in my book. I am just sorry that I went way out of my way to help Trane get cutting edge technology from my own company. I should have thrown them the same bone, but Im not like that.

Previous home owners spent a good $5,600 on this Trane unit from what I have always heard was the BEST! Installed in 2012, we moved in in 2015. Since winter of 2015 its been non stop issues! All issues has come from the air handler. Since 2015 we have spent a good $2,000 in fixing part after part. Now December 2019 after just spending $600 on it back in October, we are now being told its another $1400 to replace the coil! So far Trane isnt assisting with any of the costs although this unit isnt old at all and we have had issue after issue! We wont be putting more money into this pos we plan to just replace with a carrier unit!

Replaced old furnace in our new home. We had new duct work and the Trane v95 put in, 4 months later the ductwork fell down. Then the burners went out on the furnace, had to be replace after 3 months of use, said our basement was too damp. Had to have it serviced again for continuously running and not heating wasting my propane. They said it was our fault we didnt buy the extra warranty. Not everyone has the money to get that. Once again the burners are not heating one year after repair. Each time this has cost me 179.00, the part was under warranty. I am pretty handy but this is ridiculous. They were rude to us and blamed us. My galvanized ductwork was replaced with the foil foam stuff and I had to make many repairs from the mice eating it. Not to mention it keeps falling down heating and cooling my crawl space. We live in the country. They had a terrible time getting it to work at first. That should have been my first clue... I called home depot about it many times and the service company. When they did come out I ended up doing some of the work. Dont have an order number, bought it through home depot. OH, they are no longer using the company that installed my furnace. Too many complaints...

I had an XV20i heat pump installed with a Tam 8 air handler and the top of the line thermostat. This was a $12,000 purchase. The unit was installed two and a half years ago. Ive had nothing but continual and still ongoing problems. My installing dealer went out of business so Ive had to pay for labor during a time the labor should have been covered under warranty. To date Ive paid $1,000 in labor charges since installation, not to mention the constant headaches with the unit being down. Trane did refund me approximately $280.00 in labor charges a few months back. However, when I was offered that amount I expressed my displeasure with the amount and was told take it or leave it. When my dealer went out of business, I contacted Trane customer service asking what I should do and if there were any dealers in my area that knew how to work on these newer units. I was given a list of dealers (which I kept).Every dealer I called on the list told me they didnt service my area. So I was on my own. I called a local Trane dealer out of the phone book. He was very honest and told me his company didnt service these type of units due to their complexity. He referred me to another dealer. I was told this dealer sells a lot of high-end equipment and they know what they’re doing. The dealer I was referred to has been to my house 4 times since April 2016, just as recent as 3 days ago.As Im writing this review my unit is down again. On their first service run I was told my outside unit need a software upgrade to 2.0 and a new personality module which I paid them to install. The unit ran fine during the summer, but now that its cold problems have returned, and as I stated it is down again. This unit is clearly a LEMON. Since it obviously cant be repaired correctly, I want Trane to furnish me a new unit installed. I have a stack of work orders, which I previously submitted to Trane. Of course I have even more now.

Had a new Trane heat pump system installed in May of 2013. The system worked well until winter came. My first bill in Dec was $294. My second bill was $387, third bill was $528. I first thought the company that installed the system had underrated the size system I needed, so I called them. They came right out, & discovered the filter drier had not been installed properly & I was told it was a factory defect. I called Trane & attempted to get them to pay me for my loss due to their factor to stalled defective filter drier. After being in contact with 3 different customer care personnel & sending them previous years bills, I was told they dont pay customers heat bills. After several communications back & forth. They told me they would send me a check for $200. I responded that I wasnt looking for welfare & evidently they needed money more than I did. After that, I sent 2 emails to the CEO of the heat pump division with absolutely no response. I have used Trane systems for 20+ yrs because of their quality, but evidently their responsibility ends with repair of the defect. They assume no responsibility for cost incurred by the consumer. The people who sold me the unit & repaired the unit were great. I cant say the same for the producers of the unit!

No one is listening! Trane/Standard does not hold dealers accountable and your products do not perform as advertise and are not reliable. Everyone passes the buck. Do you stand behind your product from assembly line to customer. Or do you pass the buck too. On 2/29/2008, I bought a Trane HV/AC System for $7306.88. The heat pump was an XL14i and the Train Air Handler was an innovation system that was going to be like a breath of fresh air with variable-speed control. Both systems promised very high tech features, to include quiet, high efficiency, durable, clean air, first rate warranties, and reliability -- do this words sound familiar. These are the features that were promised to my wife and me. Now, I have a piece of junk and I will never recommend to anyone to buy a Trane or Standard AC unit. We have to keep replacing parts and it keeps making a clanking noise when the heating cycle shuts-off. Now, the Trane certified service agent states that my units cannot be matched and I have to live with the problem and they will keep charging me for the visits because Trane/Standard Extended Warranty will not cover it. What a mess. Your company is not holding dealers accountable for the services and your product is not reliable. I need help. No one seems to want to do the right thing. They keep passing the buck.

I had the XV20i installed in the spring of 2014 with all the bells and whistles. It ran perfectly quietly all summer long until winter. In heat mode, it sounds like a light airplane beginning to take off. I now have my neighbor complaining that he cannot sleep even though his two car garage is between the heat pump and his bedroom. We purchased and had installed, a Trane 15 Seer heat pump unit in October 2008. In 2 1/2 years, we had 4 service calls, including a refrigerant leak and the necessity to replace the indoor coils. Luckily, we have a 10-year parts and labor warranty on this unit. But it is worse than the old unit we replaced. Now there is a strong chemical odor that fills our house each time the heat runs. Yet, another service call will be needed and another day off from work. This is the biggest piece of junk. Trane always had a good reputation, but I would never purchase another of their products.

I had a new Trane XE1000 heat pump installed in 1997 at a cost of $5600.00. In 2001, the reversing valve failed and I was given the option to replace just the valve (not recommended by the technician) at a cost of $500 or replace the entire outside compressor unit at a cost of $1450. I chose the latter. In 2009, the compressor burned out due to a refrigerant leak. I had the compressor replaced, lines flushed of any dirt or debris, tested for acid contamination and recharged at a cost of $1600.00. The new compressor burned out after 3 weeks. So far I have $8650.00 in this heat pump and it still does not work properly. In my opinion, Trane products are poorly made, of inferior quality and they rely on advertising and their reputation from 15-20 years ago for sales today. I cannot recommend anybody buy this overpriced junk.

I read a lot of these complaints, and some are easy to fix the problem. Example if your going thru ignitors, have your tech check the ground on the unit and maybe the house. Should cure that. Some say on high heat it overheats and shuts down and starts again. Ok duct may be undersized, filter clogged, A-Coil clogged with pet hair, dirt, etc. As far as brands go, Trane doesn't seem to have the class actions like a lot of them do. Believe it or not, it is not the evil equipment you may think, it might have an easier explanation. If you have one that works for a while quits and two hours later, the drain trap is clogged. When it finally drains down it allows the pressure switch to close and works till it's full of water again. Lighten up people… The dealers don't want it breaking down on you either…

We bought a Trane Heat Pump and new furnace in February 2011. In November 2012 the unit shut down and we found out it had a leak and had lost all 410A. The leak was in the copper joint inside of unit so they brazed it. We had to pay $169 to have 410A replaced even though I thought it was very unfair that we should have to pay anything since it was a factory defect. Well, here we are 7 months later and we have another leak. They are having trouble finding it and had put dye in it to try to locate the leak. Two days later and the dye still doesnt show where the leak is so we have to wait another 5 days to let it circulate more. Of course it is 90 degrees here right now so the unit runs almost all day, so I would think the dye should have circulated. They have had to put in another 2 lbs. 410A and said they will give us a good price on it. Well, I say we shouldnt have to pay for it at all since we spent $7000 for all this 2 years ago. I guess maybe Trane is not real good at standing behind their products, so if they dont replace this unit we will be finding something different and we will be hiring an attorney to recoup our loss. We are retired and bought this new hoping that we would avoid repairs for a few years!! Well, I guess we were wrong. Very disappointed in Trane at this point in time!!!!!!!!

Hello, I recently purchased a TRANE heat pump unit (September 2018) Model numbers: Heat pump - 4TWV8036A1000BB. Air Handler - TAM9AOB3OV31DAA. Tstat - TCONT85OAC52UA. The unit worked as described with no problems until about a month ago. Then it started to malfunction. I contacted the installing dealer and they came out to find that mice had moved into the control unit area of the heat pump and chewed through several wires which made the unit malfunction.I have lived in this house for the past 12 years and never had an issue with mice in my old unit. I purchase a TRANE and after 6 months of use I have to pay out $200.00 in repair bills due to mice. I did some research online and found out that this is a major problem with the type of heat pump I have because for 1 it has a heating unit in the control area which draw mice in the winter to find a warm place to live and 2 it appears that no effort was made by the product engineers to seal those areas up or to even put the wires in an enclosed unit, I was also informed by the technicians that did the repairs that this is a major issue and they see mice doing damage to units all the time. I am very disappointed in this product and wonder how much it is going to cost me down the road for repairs as I cant keep a daily watch on the unit and will not know if mice are chewing up the wires at any given time. I would suggest that TRANE take a better look at the design of the unit and come up with a way to better protect the control area and wires and if nothing else recommend that dealers who install the unit let the customer know that mice like the warm place in the unit and might chew it up costing major repairs and money to fix. I would not recommend the TRANE heat pump to anyone because of this issue and will not purchase any type of TRANE product in the future. The other issue is with the thermostat - model 850. Seems that it has an issue with heat buildup in the display and causes the unit to display a higher temp than the set point. Had to have the installing dealer come out after the heating season started to adjust the calibration set point for the indoor temp to make the unit function showing the displayed temp and the actual room temp the same. This seems to me to be another design flaw which when I did some research online TRANE customers are having the same issues. Very disappointed in my purchase to say the least.

My Trane heat pump was so problematic that local technicians could not fix it so I filed a complaint with Trane customer service. After several months of waiting for a response from Trane and sending documentation of my problems they quit communication with me. I had to file a complaint with my state attorney generals office before they would again open communications with me. They told me to put in a new Trane heat pump and they would give me a $500 rebate after it was installed. I told them I would like one of their local factory techs to take a look at my unit. They said no. This was one of the worst experiences i have ever had. I had the Trane unit replaced with a carrier unit at my expense. I will never again buy anything built by Trane. The only thing worse than the Trane heat pump was their customer service.

Just informed by service tech from Bower Heating & Air in Roanoke, VA that my 24-month-old Trane heat pump (Model 4TWX6036E1000AA) needs to be replaced. Apparently there are none in existence anywhere in the U.S. and I will be forced to wait at least 2 weeks for a replacement. It’s 7/29 in SW Virginia.

Once AGAIN I am having to pay for ANOTHER repair on my 2006 XL14I Trane that I purchased in 2006. In Feb. 2013, I had to have the compressor replaced; June 2009 I had to have a coil replaced. Now at the current time, I am waiting on a new circuit board that goes on the fan motor. The parts are under warranty for 2 more years, but I am STILL having to pay for the labor which IS NOT cheap. But I SHOULDNT have all this trouble with a $5000 product that is ONLY 8 years old. Moral of the story is: DO NOT buy a Trane! Years ago they were a good product but NOW they SUCK! So heed the warning if you are looking to purchase a heat pump. NO TRANE!!!!

Purchased a home with a Trane XV90 furnace, furnace is 7 years old and out of warranty, product failed at 6 years, after the tech spent hours on the phone with Trane tech support he figured out the furnace needed a new main circuit board to the tune of $1200. We had the furnace repaired, everything was fine for 14 months, went to turn on the heat this year to find out no warm air, called the furnace guy to come out and he explained the main board had failed again. This was after spending 2 more hours on the phone with Trane tech support, we called Trane corporate only to find out the replacement board is only warranted for 12 months, and Trane tried to claim they dont warranty replacement parts, the 12 month warranty is from the dealer. So, to cut an already long story short we now have to shell out another 1200 dollars to repair it again. I called Trane customer support and explained my situation, got a nice email response that said SORRY, GOOD LUCK. It would have been far easier for Trane to do the right thing and either replace the clearly defective part or at a minimum offer a prorated reimbursement, but no they dont care! Do yourself a favor, dont buy a Trane furnace, they dont stand behind their products and if anything goes wrong the replacement parts only have a 12 month warranty from the dealer, Trane tried to argue with me that they dont warranty replacement parts. HIDING BEHIND THEIR DEALERS. So much to Cant stop a Trane. Guess what? You can, and they dont care...

In September 2009, I had an XL 15 Trane Heat Pump and air handler installed in my new home. In June of 2012, it was diagnosed with a leaking evaporator coil. The new coil was ordered and it was installed on June 19, 2012. I was presented a bill by the service tech for $960. The evaporator coil was under warranty, but I had to pay the shipping of $100 for the new coil and the return shipping of $100 for the old coil. I called the Trane representative for this area and he stated that he had no knowledge of any problem with their evaporator coils. Basically he said that it was too bad and offered no help at all. I would never recommend any Trane product. They have a poor quality product and an even worse customer service department. If there is a class action suit, I wish to be included.

So in the three weeks, it burned out two ignitor until I found out this fact.I has really bad experience with Trane product and Comfy service. If you dont have knowledge about furnace, it is really easy to be ripped off from service guy. We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was the Gold Standard
We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was the Gold Standard - a Trane system with a 10 YEAR warranty. The system performed admirably for 4 summers, but when hot weather came to Virginia this year, the system stopped cooling b/c of what the installer indicated was a poorly located copper tube that had split and allowed the refrigerant to escape. We assumed it was an installation error that would be covered by the warranty, but in fact, the technician said the units are made that way. Four weeks later and over $1,500 of labor and service charges [$800 of which is 2 occasions of lost refrigerant] we are still waiting for parts because we balked at paying an additional $300 for expedited shipping. It may be Hard to STOP a TRANE, but from our experience, its even HARDER to START a TRANE!

In 2001, we built our house and went with top of the line Trane heat pumps, two of them. In 2004, hurricane Ivan came in and took our house. In 2005, we rebuilt and had the same units installed, Trane heat pumps with the UV filter system 14xl. Well in 2007, the 3.5-ton unit went out. We called the company that installed both units, Mooneyham Heating and Air in Milton, FL. They came out and told us the coil was no good and needed to be replaced. It would cost us $1,500. We told them it is under warranty. They said, “Let us check on that and we will get back to you.” Well, several days go by and no call back, so I called them and they said, “Sorry for not getting back to you but we have been really slammed.” I told them, “Well, I would like to have A/C again.” It is 90 + outside. They told me that Trane would only cover the coil under warranty and we would have to pay the labor. I said, “Can I have their phone number?” So I called Trane in South Florida. After two days of the dog chasing its tail, they got back to me and told me over a 3-way call with Trane and Mooneyham that Trane would be paying parts and labor to Mooneyham. I said, “Great, when can I have my A/C back?” Well, that’s another issue. The coils are on backorder. I said, “What? It could take up to three weeks to get you one sent in the mail.” I told them that is not going to work, so I called our local district and they have one on the shelf, 6 miles from me. So I called Trane back and told them there is one on the shelf at this place, call them and I will go and pick it up for Mooneyham. “We can’t do that, sir. It has to come from us.” I know the system is out again and they will not fix under the warranty agreement and the other unit just went out for the same thing. So I have two units not working and no A/C in 90+ weather. I guess their slogan is incorrect - Its hard to stop a Trane. Well, everything I have seen on this form and other Trane units are junk and overpriced. It was our first and last and I will be turning this over to our lawyer.

New home built in 2007 new Trane furnace installed. Wrong from install, noted by the service technician during a routine maintenance check and trying to fix a water leak coming from side of furnace. Charged me $187.95 and still that night the water leak continued. The next day 3 other techs came and tried to diagnose the problem. A roll of duct tape and lots of PVC piping later, the leak finally stopped after making my new furnace look laughable. Now we have rust issues caused from the water leak causing parts and switches to degrade and corrode. Needing a $20 part replaced the same reputable Trane dealer would like to charge $278 plus tax for something their bad install job caused to go out. After explaining that I feel the part was damaged because of the water leak that developed from a bad install and should be replaced at no charge, they told me I should just buy the part and replace myself. I said Im not going to do that and they told me they are wiping their hands clean of me and walking away from my situation. I tried to call Trane and they hung up on me. I tried sending email and they tell me theyre free to charge whatever theyd like to charge me as they are independent dealer. They do not want to understand that these problems are because of either a bad product or simply the bad install the tech admitted to. I will never own another Trane product during my lifetime. Horrible customer service and worse product. You can see from my photos the install job they did to my Trane furnace and the rust that has developed. And yet still no one from Trane or the installer would like to take blame.

We have 11 Trane furnaces installed in a house built 7 years ago. We have replaced 5 evaporator coils and now have another one we have to replace. Every time we replace one, it costs $1,300 and all we get are excuses. Ill tell whoever will listen that they should not buy Trane products. I have never had a problem with any furnaces in any home we have ever lived in, which has been two previous homes (one for 10 years and another for 27 years). No interest from anyone from Trane to provide any assistance or demonstrate any interest in helping to reduce the cost and accept responsibility for faulty engineering design. Im actually surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit filed since it is common knowledge that there was a major engineering design flaw.

On October 23 2019 Trane dealer from Ormond Beach FL installed Trane® 4TWR4036G1000 XR14 heat pump and Air Handler. According specifications on heat pump it must include Climatuff® compressor. The Climatuff® compressor is the only one Trane uses in its residential systems. Its durable, reliable, and highly efficient. That was the reason I decided to install Trane. My heat pump has a LG compressor. (Number part COM11968). When I ask my dealer why, they just told me they changed it without explanation. I do not know was it a bad unit or installation. They also changed evaporation coils. All in first week. When I called Trane customer service they told me last time they had such problem in August 2016. They advised me to tell my dealer to send unit back to distributor and get a new one. No warranty claims. No invoices for product and parts installation. My system did not pass city inspection because they did not put hurricane pad for elevation. I refuse to have Trane without Climatuff compressor. I am a widow living on VA pension and can not afford to pay for future repairs. I need second opinion from another Trane dealer and resolve this situation as soon as possible because it is affect my health.

I purchased a home in September 2012 and learned that the A/C unit was not working (found out on the day I closed). I advised seller that I would not move forward with purchase if I had to replace a major appliance like an A/C unit. Seller agreed to replace and I agreed to replace furnace portion of package to avoid a greater cost should the furnace not work. I started noticing the A/C heating up at certain parts of the day and thought I needed to readjust thermostat. After several days of increasing temperatures during the day I decided to call a service technician only to learn that I had no refrigerant in my system. Further investigation showed a leak in the coil. I called the company who installed and they said the part was no longer under warranty and that the warranty was only for 1 year. I decided to call the service technician back and advised him what the installing company said and he advised me that the part that is not working is under warranty and that Trane is aware of the defect with the type coils they use. So the part was definitely under warranty. It turns out that the Tech was correct and Trane provided the coil at no charge, however, I was stuck with a $575.00 labor charge for a unit that is only 2 years, 10 months old. While I am pleased with the work that the Tech did on the unit and how quickly he came to repair and how thoroughly he cleaned up the area after he completed the work, I immediately changed my servicing company. If Trane is aware of this defect, why are they allowed to keep selling a piece of equipment (part) that is obviously defective when they know it is going to fail? While they do not make money off selling the part it still costs consumers labor cost - in my case, $575.00. My dissatisfied rating is because Trane knowingly sells this defective merchandise that would cost consumers huge labor costs in such a short time. How can they do this?

New installation of furnace and heat pump/AC system installed in 2014. Heat pump compressor just went out Nov 2019. Part is warranted for 10 yrs, so that was covered, but labor was not. Expensive labor cost that is for sure. The installers who did the original installation commented that Trane had wiring issues with heat pumps late in 2014, and changed how it was connected at the unit. In fact this installer had trouble getting the replacement heat pump to function correctly, and had to call the Trane reps, and they walked him through the new method of wiring the pump. It was changed because it was causing the pump to cycle too often, and led to early failure. Hum...sounds like my pump. Installer said Trane will do nothing for you. Im angry that Trane knew they needed to change the wiring schematic and did not notify existing installations about it. I feel they are responsible for this issue on my unit.

We asked Trane to replace the unit because we felt it was defective from the factory and they refused. They covered the cost of the part but we had to pay $860 in service charges to have it installed. In June of 2018 we spent another $220 having a fan capacitor replaced. We contacted Trane Consumer Relations and this time they offered to cover part of the labor charges with the condition that that would not be liable for any future charges arising from defects. We knew the equipment had a history of problems and turned down their offer. Now in May of 2020 we are looking at another $800 in service charges to replace a defective and leaking cooling coil. Trane Consumer Relations has refused to help in any way. They told us to go through the service company we are using and have them go to the local distributor. In addition to refusing to do anything to help the supervisor in Consumer Relations was evasive when asked simple questions and refused to answer some questions.

After our Trane heat pump that we had for 15 years went out, we had another complete Trane system installed. After 3 weeks when it was in the mid 90s the AC went out. We got a hold on the company that installed it and they came out, checked everything and said that it has a stuck valve. They would have to order one, which would take 3 weeks to get because they are on back order. I said BS! Told them get a whole new system and take the valve out of it and replace ours with it which would only take a day to get. After that it worked great again. That is until 3 more weeks went by, then it did it again. They will be out today to look at it, but he said it probably is the same thing as before. The tech said that they are having this same problem with several other Tranes systems they installed. He also said that Trane has known about the problem for quite a while and has done nothing to really fix the problem. I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Heres why: I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting better equipment, but that could not be further from the truth. Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus. Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone. Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone. On to #2! Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two lovely babies!! This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky. #3 This time the control module went out in the air handler! I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit... Again, I guess I am just lucky. #4 This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat. #5 Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!! Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house! They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of QUALITY that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them?Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct. Par for the course here with Trane.#6 The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the Quality I should expect from their brand. My Answer? Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again! #7 Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait. So, moral of the story? If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane. Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.

A leak developed causing the heat pump to quit working and all heat came from auxiliary heat strips. My electric bill soared to $1,100.00 while the former highest bill had been $400.00. I have lived in this house for 9.5 years and know what to expect for electric bills. The service technicians made five visits before supposedly repairing the problem. I was billed $1,800.00 for these visits. Each time they came out, Freon was added and charged to the bill without ever fixing the leak. Now this winter, I have the same problem. I suspected that there was an issue (the unit was running on heat strips a lot more frequently) so I called for service. The tech said everything was operating as it should. I paid the $80.00 fee but was not satisfied with his findings. I contacted a different company for a second opinion. They too said everything was working fine. Less than a week later, I awoke to a 7 degree difference between thermostat and room temp. I called them back out and they said it was the thermostat. $150.00 was the charge for this visit. Two and one half days later, the same thing occurred. This time they checked the Freon and found it to be low. Four pounds were added (more money) but the tech said he would have to come back to try to find the leak. That was last Monday. I am anxiously awaiting to hear what the problem is this time.I am at their mercy. The unit still has four years warranty remaining on all parts but I cannot keep putting money into this lemon. If anyone knows of any recourse to Trane, please advise. I have spent over $3,000.00 in service calls, repair costs and added utility costs because of this unit.

Our home was built in 2002 and completed in October. We have a closed loop geothermal system with 3 zones. Each zone has a heat pump and a Trane air handler. The system works well and weve had good heating and cooling for 9 1/2 years with low electric bills (thanks to geothermal). We have a 3 visit per year contract with the company that installed our system and have been generally pleased with this service. The first air handler failed after 4 years due to an evaporative coil leak. It was replaced under warranty (with plenty of labor costs). The second one had the same problem shortly after the 5-year warranty expired. It was replaced at full cost. The third unit now requires replacement at less than 9 1/2 years old due to another evaporative coil leak. 3 out of 3! That’s a definite strike out for Trane. All 3 air handlers are indoors in clean protected environments and have had the units serviced 3 times per year. Our much cheaper heat pump that we had in our previous house in TX (with air handler in a blazing hot attic) never had a coil leak. The electric bills were a lot more, but there were no failures in 13 years.

Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008. We wanted a heat pump to get away from Oil & save money every year - so far not the case. NOTE: Filters were changed every 2 months regularly. Unit was fully serviced every fall. Dec. 2010 - went away for Christmas holiday - returned home to find exterior compressor in a 6 solid block of Ice. Service tech found a leak inside of the gases due to faulty valve. Jan. 23, 2013 - Fan blower motor gone! Part covered under Tranes 5 yr warranty - but not service labor to replace it. Jan. 16, 2015 - Fan Blower Motor GONE Again!! (was -27 cel. in N.S.). Ordered in a new one direct from Trane manufacturer, arrived, service tech found shaft was bent - so he rejected it. (I guess Trane doesnt do a QC check on parts when they build them or when they leave the facility). Had to Air frt. in a new motor once again. Jan. 22, 2015 $1200 later & Heat pump back working!!! Nothing Rides Like a Trane HA!! - Most Tranes I know have a reliable Engine!!

Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013. Never used since house has wood heat, electric heat pumps are costly and A/C not necessary, Purchased for home re-sale. Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it wont pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks high tech. Too bad it cannot function.

I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil rusted out and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.

We bought a Trane heat pump about 6 years ago based on dealer recommendations and advertisements. Within the first 3 years every part except the cover was replaced under warranty. Since then we spent about $200 every quarter on repairs. The piece of crap is now 6 years old and the quarterly repairs just keep getting higher. I will never buy another Trane. Based on my experience it is a total piece of crap that cost more than any other product I have ever owned. We replaced a Goodman that I thought was expensive. When we replace this piece of crap Ill buy another Goodman and gladly pay the repair bills. My personal advice DO NOT BUY A TRANE!!!

We purchased a Trane XL18i high-efficiency heat pump back in the fall. We have had many issues with the unit since installation. It was initially not installed correctly and continues to not work properly. We thought Trane was a good product, but we are seriously questioning this. Now that the season has changed and we are using A/C for the first time, it does not work correctly. We spent thousands of dollars and NO ONE seems to be able to rectify the issues. We have been given our 3rd thermostat (I dont think theres anything wrong with the thermostats), and Im really not so sure that there isnt a much bigger issue with the installation or unit itself. We believe at this point that the entire installation needs to be checked, including all wiring that was done with it to find the problem and resolve it once and for all. The Trane dealer we used is useless, so we called the Trane 1-800 number and requested a field service rep be sent out. They refused and said that they didnt care about the issue, talk to the dealer. They really dont stand behind their product! We are obviously not alone with this experience, so couldnt we all band together for a class action lawsuit? Any attorneys reading this or does anyone know an attorney who would take this on? I am on board with this. We would love a refund at this point and have them take all the equipment back so we can go with another company. Wishful thinking.

After 7 years my a-c evaporator (the coil in the air handler located in my garage) needed replacement. It could not be repaired because the copper tubing was so thin that it could not permanently contain the refrigerant (Freon 22). The technician who installed the new coil asked me to lift the defective coil he had removed. It weighed about ten pounds, then he showed me a coil that was in perfect condition, from a similar a-c (48,000 BTUs (4 tons)) that was manufactured about thirty years earlier, it weighed about twenty five pounds. More than twice as heavy. The copper tubing was much heavier, not tissue paper thin like the newer unit. Why have our political leaders created very strict laws to prevent the escape of refrigerants and other destructive gases but they allow companies like Trane to make exorbitant profits while polluting the environment with these millions and millions and millions of leaky a-c coils? Why? Ask yourself, why?

XV 90 Control Board fried after warranty expired - I had a XV 90 installed in 2004. It has run without issue up until Christmas Eve 2012. Ill spare the horror story around the troubleshooting process to determine the board was fried, but in the end, I ended up forking out $1,100 to have a new control board installed. Symptoms: (1) no heat; (2) it came on once, but that appeared to be its final cycle; (3) fan would still run, so it led me to believe that there was hope. Bottom line: Theres a known problem with the board for the model/serial of my furnace. It was recommended by Trane that a new control board/upgrade kit be installed. I plan to keep it around just so that I feel like I gained something from spending so much on a new control board. The service tech that did the repair mentioned that this is a common occurrence and he carries extra boards in his truck for this very reason - nice.

Please allow me to repeat less than 3 years, and Trane refused to stand behind their product. The unit actually rusted completely through in less than 3 years. I would highly suggest you never buy from Trane because they do not stand behind their own product. Do yourself a favor and skip all the headaches, DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT. I NEVER WILL AGAIN!

Trane heat pump - I purchased this unit from Sears with Sears extended warranty. I dont have all the detailed paperwork at the moment. However, I had several repairs over the years and those were done satisfactorily through Sears. However, the last repair was the compressor. This was approx. one month prior to the warranty expiring. Unit was 10 years old. After struggling with Sears, the unit was finally repaired. However, now one year later, the compressor has now failed again. Since it is past my warranty, I am going to buy a new unit.I had to go pick up my parts - I missed l/2 day of work with no pay to do this. They would not come to my house on Fridays which is my day off. The first visit, there was no repair. The second time they were scheduled to come, they did not show up. And the parts did not show up since I had to meet a truck to pick up my parts. It took me like two months and several calls to Sears to get this repair. When the tech finally came to my house, he was late, lost and there was a thunderstorm in the area (afraid of the bad weather); therefore he did the repair in a haste. All in all, it was a very annoying experience and cost me lost time from work, etc. Im not sure if this complaint is against Sears or Trane, but they work in coordination so both companies are at fault.I have given up and will buy a new unit from more competent companies. In the meantime, I suffer in the heat again this summer just like last summer.

In 2015 I purchased a Trane XL 20 heat pump system with variable speed air handler and heat pump. Installer moved out door unit from where the old unit was to a place that made installation easier. As it was summer and the unit was in cooling mode, the outdoor unit was much quieter that the old one. When the weather changed and the unit went into heat mode the outdoor unit became so loud that it could be heard throughout the house. I called the installer and they came out and assessed the unit and informed me that the noise was normal. As the unit now sits outside my bedroom instead of the kitchen, it can be rather annoying if the weather is really cold and the unit is running at 100%.After about 3 years I awoke one morning to an error on the thermostat and no A/C. Service man checked unit and said the wire tie holding a piece of foam insulation around one of the lines inside the outdoor unit to keep two copper lines from chafing, had rubbed a hole through one of the lines and caused the failure. He took pictures and noted it on the service report. I contacted TRANE, as to me, this was a factory flaw in the wire tie placement. TRANE requested documentation which I provided. They rejected the claim and I was out almost $1000.00 to repair the unit. As far as efficiency goes, the unit has lowered my over all electricity bill. Also the filters for the air handler state that they are 4 inch filters but in actuality they are 3.75 inch. As such filters purchased on the open market do not fit and requires one to buy them from a TRANE installer or dealer.

So much for this reputable brand. New furnace and AC in 09. Flashing a draft pressure error code. Ran and passed all logical checks and even replaced the pressure switch (because cheap and easy) for the heck of it. Besides that ran all other troubleshooting and measure tests. All report fine but the thing still has issues in that it runs sporadically. Paid Freds $135 to tell me they dont know what the problem is because everything checks out. Supposedly their $99 initial trip/diagnostic fee covers for 30 days if they need to come back. Two days later and with 53 degree house, they say they spoke with Trane and said to try another pressure switch although doubts that is the problem, and or replace the board to the tune of around $800.00 installed, even though the board checks fine too. Really? Already paid this company to say dont know what is wrong and fixed nothing. Now they want to charge more labor to fix something that they dont know if even is the problem? And of course we find out the original part is not under warranty, but must have had issues because it is obsolete and has been changed a time or two since. So much for reliability and fair service companies. With all due respect to Jim the kind service tech (and is as miffed as we are) but the companies charge policies are out of line, and this comes from people in this business, that are unfortunately not local or Id be using them. And, it took 3 phone calls to Freds to even get a call back for service!

We had a new 3 1/2 ton heat pump unit installed in 2006. We paid $6035.00 for the heat pump and coil. We started having problems a year later. Every year after weve had problems. Graybeal Air Systems was the company we dealt with. After 5 years, right before the warranty ran out, they replaced the unit with a new one, but no longer honor a warranty. Every year since, we continue to have major repairs. Last year they diagnosed the expansion valve defective and wanted $900 to replace it. Were done. I contacted Graybeal and was told there was nothing more they could do but fix it as needed for the regular charge. I contacted Trane and was essentially told Sorry about your luck. We are again sitting in 90-degree heat with no AC. Im going to call another company to evaluate it but anticipate they suggest another unit. I guarantee it wont be a Trane. My father was in heating and air conditioning until his death and never treated customers this way.

I recently moved into my custom built home. During the planning phase I requested TRANE equipment due to prior good experiences. Upon completion I had no idea that the TRANE equipment had to be registered 60 days after closing (I am sure its stated in the fine print or piles of documents one receives when purchasing a new house). Minor mistake... WRONG! The difference is with a brand new home and brand new trane furnace/ac/coil equipment you lose 5-7 yrs of warranty on the equipment if you do not register in 60 days... NO EXCEPTIONS, NO OPTIONS, NO INTERMEDIARY SOLUTIONS. BASICALLY NO ONE THAT APPARENTLY REALLY CARES! I strongly recommend using another company that is more transparent with their policies and has a real customer service department that is equipped to do the right thing when necessary! 10 year parts warranty if you register in 60 days! 5 & 3 year warranty if you dont... same new equipment, same new house but a rigid, ridiculous policy that none of their customer relations employees can even really defend. Weve already had the furnace go down (23F outside) & now I learn about their policies & customer relations efforts. Ill never make this mistake again (Trane equipment).

I replaced a 2 ton heat pump in January of 2014 to replace another Trane 2T Heat Pump unit that had only been installed in 2001 when the house was built. The new unit quit heating in Nov of 2015 (less than 2 years) and I had Whites Heating and Air-conditioning (our local Trane Dealer) come out to fix it. They had to replace the TXV Valve and replace the refrigerant - at a cost to me of $888. Trane replaced the valve itself (which cost $130) but WOULD NOT COVER LABOR OR REFRIGERANT. This is ridiculous in my opinion for a $4000 Heat Pump. Tranes warranty is really bad and I would warn anyone who is thinking about purchasing a TRANE unit to look at another company that is more reputable.

Trane dealers refuse to offer us an extended warranty on our equipment, but from what I just read on the Trane website, Renewal is at the sole option of Trane Standard Warranty Company. So, which is it? Why are we getting the run around? Apparently, you can pick and choose whomever you want to offer warranties to? Why not just be honest on the Trane website and save the consumer a lot of grief? Dorothy ** with Customer Service was nothing but extremely rude to my husband today (10/01/14) as all we are trying to do is get an extended warranty for our furnace and air conditioning unit and we have received nothing but grief. We were told authorized dealers apparently can choose whether or not to offer extended warranties, so we are between a rock and hard place as dealers that are close enough to service us - will not offer us an extended warranty - aka no one will take our money and now I realize its actually up to Trane - weve been lied to. Do you actually even extend warranties? Trane says that there is nothing they can do so I guess after 5 years - we are on our own - even if we want to pay for an extended warranty? Apparently, Trane cares nothing about their reputation or the customer b/c these sites are currently FULL of complaints. My husband and I have been working to get this accomplished for months now (expires 10/04/14). According to the Trane website, the independent Trane dealer is committed to the best customer satisfaction - I assume your home office is as well. This cannot be farther from the truth as no one is willing to assist us. In addition, my husband and I have to take very valuable time out of our days to deal with this - which bewilders us both considering you are committed to the best customer satisfaction and all. We installed an XL15 system in our home - heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. My nine year old XV90 Trane furnace leaks water and two different contractors concluded that the heat exchanger is cracked. Even though the heat exchanger has a lifetime warranty, it will not be honored by Trane because that piece for my model is discontinued. As a result, they will only offer a credit of $360 for that towards a new Trane furnace. For a piece that is the heart and soul of the machine, that amount of credit is simply laughable since it would cost a lot more than that if purchased out in the market. Therefore, this lifetime Trane warranty is simply misleading to say the least. For now there is no resolution other than me shopping for a new furnace and I will never buy a Trane product due to this fiasco of a lifetime warranty.

A month later last week exactly when it got cold I went to run my furnace and it didnt work. When I went down and opened the panel I could smell the same smoke I smelt that day and there was my circuit board all black and melted. When I called the company who installed it (Masters) they came out and said the board was under warranty but the labor was going to be $300. Sounds cheap. But NO ONE can tell me why it caught on fire. So I told Masters I wasnt going to pay them to put in another circuit board because it could have BURNED MY WHOLE HOUSE DOWN. Their response was call Trane and let them deal with it. So I called Trane and the first question they ask is did I have it professionally serviced every year. I replied no but had heater coils replaced under warranty after just 3 years. Now I sit here waiting on Trane to tell me whats up and where we go from here. But I already know their answer and I told them dont even try and tell since I didnt have it serviced regularly its my fault, because had you WARNED me that if I didnt have it professionally serviced IT MIGHT CATCH FIRE I would NEVER have bought it. So after just 6 years here I sit with no furnace and no resolution. Now every time I call Trane, they say were working on it and well call you back. They have no intention of fixing it. So I called Masters back and said go ahead and replace the board and Ill pay the $300 BUT IF THE FURNACE CATCHES FIRE and burns down my house Im suing both Trane and you. The owner of Masters then says, NO THANKS. WERE NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN COMING BACK TO SERVICE IT. I said, Why are you worried it will catch fire? I mean if its safe whats the big deal? Both Trane and Masters heating and air are crooked and in this together to screw over the consumers knowing they GOT PROBLEMS they arent telling their buyers about when the purchase is made. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FURNACE MAKER AS both Trane and Masters could care less for our SAFETY and cares if we lose everything. Of course all they are going to say is THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. So I ask if you have had a circuit board melt or catch fire please let me know. I know I am not the only one with this SERIOUS problem.

In the past year, had three heat pumps installed. In the process was emailing Trane (American Standard) to see about an extended labor warranty. No response at all! Go to their website, try to call, it keeps reverting to emails communication only. One of the units just installed 2 weeks ago sounds like it is coming apart. Had to google their phone #. Talked to customer service. They do not cover labor even within 30 days. So with that being said I will not be purchasing Trane (American Standard) units again. I think that their response to the matter is poor.

The old Carrier unit (installed in the mid 80s) finally died three years ago. Since I retired from Trane after 25+ years I wanted a Trane heat pump. Every winter since it was installed we have had Dirty Sock Syndrome. It makes the entire house smell just like dirty socks. Never had this issue with the Carrier unit all those years. The Trane dealer cleans the unit and the smell goes away till the next winter. However, my dealer is now saying if this next cleaning doesnt work we should look into purchasing and installing ultra violet lighting to kill the bacteria. Why doesnt Trane assume responsibility for the problem?

This is the reason I chose Trane for my heating and cooling comfort. Both my units worked perfectly for about 8 years. When the furnace would stop, but blower would run in the winter, my Trane repairman blamed the control board and the blower motor which were quite costly. The second service expert found it was the limit sensor, and suggested the control board that I said I had it replaced. Three winters of blowing air with no heat unpredictably the third repair guy, replaced the temperature limit and suggested my under floor vents were the issue. It comes down to that my Trane Furnace XE-90 only works properly when the weather is mild and heat isnt really needed. Advice to Trane furnace owners to look up the control panel light flash indicators meaning, it can tell you how many flashes you see represent the problem supposedly. Additionally watching the Trane tech, there is a way to have the front panels off while the unit works (Be safe about electricity at this point.) There is a trigger button on the top left that can be taped down with electrical tape. I cant afford to have repairmen around, or replace it all. The A/C went too, still working on that one.
