Had new Trane XL20i Heat Pump installed 10/20/2010. July 2014 Air Handle evaporator leaked, repaired. Then Condenser became erratic, low-pressure issues, numerous service calls, more parts replaced. Left for summer to NJ from FL, came back, low-speed compressor fried. Trane will not assist. Installer is a good company, and Trane simply tells us what we need to hear.First they tell you the service company need to contact distributor then service company tells you that not the way it works. Mentioned to Trane representative Alex, that the inconsistencies between service company understanding and Tranes position leaves me with no options. Want condenser system replaced and mention consumer affairs massive number of reviews complaining and they will no longer talk to you. It is time someone take the lead and file a class action lawsuit as there is a pattern here. I will purchase alternative equipment in the future. Nice going Trane!
Purchased an expensive Trane HVAC unit 3 1/2 years ago and have had to replace the coil twice. This last time the coil leaked and caused the panel doors to crack according to the technician. The coil is under warranty but the labor to replace this piece is not and neither is the cost of the panel doors nor the labor to install them. The total cost with labor is over $1000. Trane is not taking any responsibility for the panel doors. I am contacting the Attorney General of Florida with this problem because I have been told by people in the HVAC industry that Trane products have become substandard and break down often. I do not think that I should be responsible for paying when an inferior product is being sold.
I usually dont write reviews, but I am so disappointed in my HVAC purchase I couldnt help myself. DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT!!! Ive had Carrier before and it was a much superior product. My Trane has only lasted 2 years and now I need a new coil supposedly. Of course no warranty on labor so in addition to the 5K I spent 2 years ago, I am now about to drop another 700.00 for service and labor. If this is any indication of how well this unit is going to hold up, I will be buying another unit before this one is even 5 years old. Avoid the TRANE wreck!
Published on 02/20/2020: Despite paying top dollar for 2 variable speed units, I could not get anyone from Trane to respond. Customer service was no help at all and just referred me back to local installers who was equally unhelpful. Trane appears to be more focused on commercial not their residential customers.Original review: All I wanted to know was whether a backup generator I was considering was compatible with my recently purchased TRANE HVAC system. Was told TRANE does not provide technical support for residential consumers.
I have been experiencing continual compressor failures with one of the four Trane units at my AZ home. Trane warranties the parts but not the labor, which is costing me a fortune (4-5 hours every time). The compressor that blew 8/1/13 was replaced in 2012 and new in Oct. 2004. Seems like Trane should bring me a whole new machine and cut their losses too. I am very unhappy with Trane and their support. Their products for HVAC dont hold up in AZ, and I will replace my units with another company as they continue to fail. Buyer beware!!!
Bought a Trane 15 months and had several issues with the unit. We use LP for the heat, the company installed a natural gas unit. Unit quit cooling and the repair company said it was a leak in the evaporator coil. Price to repair $212.50. Unit cooled for a couple days and they came back out and said the condenser coil had a leak. Price to repair $999.00. This is the worst company and I recommend buying a Goodman over this crap. Called Trane and they did not want to do anything but offer some help on the 999.00 bill. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE!!!
Our unit isnt 2 years old yet and the coil is leaking. They have no idea when the warranty part will be in. We paid $554 to have them come out, they tried to fix it to hold it over until the parts came in but it lasted 24 hours. Now we have to pay for a part that isnt covered under the warranty. The slogan Nothing stops a Trane is true. A Trane stops a Trane HVAC. Very dissatisfied. We went with Trane thinking it would last longer and have no problems.
I recently found it necessary to replace my 20 year old central HVAC. I contacted a local HVAC contractor in Denver for the job. They replaced my system with new a Trane furnace and A/C system. After waiting in 90 degree heat for 10 days for the equipment to be delivered and another 2 days for installation, when they flipped the switch - nothing! After another day of troubleshooting they discovered that a circuit board was defective! 8 days later, the new circuit board arrived. That finally got the A/C working. After a few days I noticed that the fan noise was really loud, constantly. After another service call, they determined that the fan controller was defective, and oh by the way, the heating was not working. Im sure it will take another 10 days to get a new controller. This is on a brand new, top of the line, $15k system. I strongly recommend that you consider another vendor for your HVAC. Trane clearly has quality control issues.
My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.
I paid USD 5500 and had a brand new Trane HVAC installed in 09/2012. In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil. I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to help me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, dont have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FLs coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product! After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked whats their reimbursement standard. He said they didnt even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didnt do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017. However she still couldnt explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me its my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANEs customer service. I requested her supervisors contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didnt agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!
We have a top of the line variable speed high efficiency Trane natural gas furnace. It is now 14 years old, but apparently nearing the end of its life. So much for the 20-year life expectancy we were told to expect when we bought it. We had to have the inducer motor assembly replaced twice within the first year of ownership - at least that was covered under warranty. 13 years later, we have had to replace the blower motor assembly in December 2014 for $800, parts and labor. Now, in March 2015, we have to have the inducer motor assembly replaced again at a cost of $900.00, parts and labor. The local HVAC service technician was able to get it running temporarily - bad bearings - while they order the part. Its been a brutally cold winter here in the northeast, so the furnace has gotten a work-out. We will be pricing new furnaces this summer - and we will not be buying a Trane. When the furnace works, we have been happy with the variable speed functionality. But the endurance has been very disappointing, especially since it was such an expensive furnace to begin with.
Bought a new house in June 2017 and saw that it had a Trane HVAC unit with a heat pump. I was thinking it would be like the Trane unit my dad bought 30 years ago that is still running, but it wasnt. AC worked fine from June till November when it started getting cold. Turned the heat on and the house actually got colder from the air coming out. Called the builder and filed a warranty claim. The HVAC installation company Carolina Comfort wanted to leave me without heat for 2 weeks. I called my realtor who got the builder involved and 5 days later they had the new valve to food it. Called the dealer and Trane telling them this was ridiculous and they needed to replace the unit since it was overheated from the bad valve. They said not going to happen. Fast forward to December 2018, as it got cold again and I turn the heat on it worked for one day then blew cold air cooling our house instead of heating it before I shut it off. Called Carolina comfort again and they looked at it and said the compressor failed from running last year with a bad TXV. Called Trane again and they said its fixed, thats all they are going to do. I explained that I am not comfortable with this unit being 0 for 2 in 18 months during heat season. They said it is what it is. Next time Ill buy a carrier Lenox or even a Goodman before I ever buy a Trane unit. And if I buy a house with a Trane unit already there, Im going to get a warranty to plan on replacing that trash. Done with buying Trane.
XL18I AC system - Purchased and had the unit installed in Dec 2007 in a new house. The first year I went through a summer 2008 it did not cool properly. Had to configure the temp shutoff in the attic unit. The 3rd year 2010, had to replace the circuit board in the blower/condenser coil in the attic. The 5th year 2012 had to replace a relay on the blower/condenser unit in the attic. The 6th year 2013 the capacitor had to replaced in the outside unit. The 7th year 2014 the capacitor set had to be replaced again. The 8th year 2015 the condenser coils had to be replaced along with the expansion valve and refrigerant. This year (the 9th) 2016 I have had to have service person in again. He originally replaced the switching valve and the expansion valve and it worked the weekend and then went out again. Service person came in and pulled the expansion valve and it was plugged with trash. Installed a filter drier and is still not cooling. This is the biggest POS I have ever owned in my life. Warranty is about to run out and I have had it. Labor and freon cost are killing me.
My Trane large air conditioner has been in my house for over 20+ years and still runs efficiently. Only exception is that it is in need of a new thermostat so that it would run only when it exceeds the set temperature.
Dual system installed Feb 2014, cut my electric bill in half! My HVAC died Jan and after insurance firm dragged their feet it was installed Feb 2014. Old system was 16 yrs old. This new TRANE works like a charm, set it and forget it (R).
We purchased this Trane about three years ago and very happy with it so far, it cools, almost too cool sometimes and I love the warmth in the winter. The installers put this on the roof so it is out of the way so no one will trip over it going around the house. I have had no issues with it at all. When this was put in the installers had to put in vents in the ceiling which makes a nice cool house, we only had floor vents before; we had a furnace and window coolers and this took care of both items. Because of this purchase we purchased new windows, nice additions to an old house.
My first 3-Ton Trane 18XL system installed in December of 2004 lasted until May of 2018. I live on an island and so my condensers are exposed to harsh conditions, even so my old system never stopped until the condenser coil sprung a leak on a copper to aluminum factory swaged joint. I replaced the system with a new XL 18i condenser and a TAM9 air handler (AHU). This new AHU lasted from May 2018 to December 2018 having developed a leak on a factory welded u-joint. My dealer in Miami was kind enough to provide a new coil under warranty but Trane would not pay for the shipping and wanted me to send back the defective coil back at my cost. The new AHU coil installed in late March 2018 and lasted until late May 2020 and failed the same way as the first. My dealer was swift in getting me a warranty replacement again but said Trane offered no comment about why the same failure happened. My dealer also noted several other failures of the same nature on AHU coils he supplied over the past year. This is very concerning to me as my previous Trane units seemed unstoppable. Now I think it is time for Trane to change its slogan to Trane stops every year. Ill be looking for another brand if this one fails within the warranty period.
Just had a new XV18 air conditioner installed with all the bell & whistles. But when the fan is in continuous run mode it shuts off every time the AC comes on. So at night when the ac has to cool the house 1 degree the fan shuts off. The house goes quiet while cooling, then the fan comes back on, that is not the definition of continuous. Have contacted Trane many times asking if this is how the system operates or is there a problem. Neither Trane nor the dealer that installed the unit have been able to answer this simple question in 2 weeks. Trane just tells me to call the installer, and since the installer cannot answer the question I do not understand why it is so hard for Trane to get me to the right person at the company that knows the equipment.There are other issues with the unit in regards to noise & vibration in the wall, but I do not want the installer to put any more work into the unit if we cannot solve the fan issue. So now everything is on hold and I am not getting an answer. Has anyone else had this problem? If Trane cannot help with a basic question I am concerned about if they will back the equipment. Seems once you have it the problem is yours not theirs. Bad customer support & service.
I utilized Lowes in Dec 2013 for the purchase of a total heating/air conditioning system to include new ducts throughout the house in the attic. This work was subcontracted by Lowe’s using a local Heating&Air company (H&A). (I dont know if allowed to say their names). The work was done 6 Jan 2014 through 10 Jan 2014. Feb 4 2014 notified H&A heat pump covered inside and outside with solid ice, came and repaired. Feb 7 2014 H&A tech here as froze again. Feb 9 2014 I called and was told defroster ordered. Feb 13 2014 I called H&A they said they are supposed to expedite the part and defroster is on back order. Feb 17 2014 H&A here and changed defroster. Feb 21 2014 H&A replaced sensor and defroster from icing. Feb 28, 2014 I called H&A heat pump again iced up. 2 March 2014 I notified H&A heat pump fan hitting ice. 4 March 2014 H&A said defroster coming through Customs and should be here end of week or next week. 17 March 2014 H&A said defroster in yesterday (16th March). 18 March H&A changed thermostat in heat pump. June 27 2015 18:55 a/c not working called H&A, was told a tech will call. 19:16 Tech informed he was on another call and would be here next. 21:00 Tech here. Low on Freon. Found leak in air handler coils. He said someone will call Monday to let me know if they have part or will need to order. He replaced Freon. June 29 2015 did not hear from H&A. June 30 2015 11:07 am I called H&A and was told part had to be ordered and should be in tomorrow or Thursday. 14:00pm AC running and room temp at 77 degrees and increasing. Thermostat set at 72 degrees. Turned off AC and have fan on. 2 July 2015 14:18 pm I called H&A and was told part not in yet. 3 July 2015 14:40pm I again called H&A and got recording machine, I did not know they were not opened. 14:47pm I called and left msg with H&A that I again have had no ac all week and no one has bothered to call me to update me on what is going on. I said I would appreciate an update first thing Monday morning since the office is closed today.6 July 2015 11:30 Received call from H&A, he said he will try and track down where part is and call me back. 11:40 am H&A called and said it was on the dock in Little Rock and to be delivered today and H&A will install it tomorrow afternoon. I told him that if it isnt there then someone needs to put Freon in. 7 July 2015 H&A called and said truck driver with parts was in an accident and she was trying to find where part was. She said something about install tomorrow and I told her someone needs to come today and put Freon in today. I also informed her I have a mountain dog and the heat can kill her. She said someone will be here today to either install the part of put Freon in. Currently 95 degrees inside house and 90 degrees outside.7 July @17:10 Tech shows up to add Freon, he does not have part, said was almost empty of Freon. 17:33 still filling with Freon, house 86 degrees. I voiced to tech that I was very upset, that for 12 days and still no part and I had to call to find out any information and I was left without ac for so long. 17:43 completed filling with Freon and left. 8 July 2015 14:30pm one worker here and waiting for another to bring coil. 14:40 other guy here with coil. 16:30 replaced coil and added Freon and left10 July 2015 10:57 am Spoke with H&A and informed her ac set at 70 degrees and in 77 degrees in house, ac not functioning again. She said someone will be out this afternoon to look at it. 11:07 I called and informed H&A that there was fresh water on the wooden platform the air handler sits on. She said to turn off ac and turn on fan- I did this. 14:30 took dog to be boarded, she was lethargic and no ac in house. 15:33 H&A called and said hed be here in 20 minutes. 15:55 Tech here, after he looked over unit I asked what was wrong with it. He said a valve on the coils failed. 16:26 he went to pick up valve at Trane. 18:41 he completed replacing valve and left. 12 July 2015 10:40am called H&A after hours number and told her ac not functioning set at 70 degrees and 77 degrees in house. She said someone will call.11:23 received call from H&A will be here in 20 minutes. 11:25 boarded my dog, very lethargic. 11:47 tech here, said more than half Freon leaked out, recharging unit. 13:00 said leak at junction of heat pump compressor and he could patch it. I said that was NOT acceptable. This is a new unit and not even two years old and patching is not acceptable. I said Trane can replace both units at their expense, poor quality equipment. I said I cannot deal with this anymore and had to walk away. Tech said he will call his boss. 13:20 Tech said his boss would want him to patch leak so that I have air until they can deal with Trane regarding replacement. He did not know how long that would take. He is currently patching leak on outside unit. I told him this is causing me too much stress and I cannot deal with it. I will be seeking what legal avenues I have in the state of Arkansas. I have spent too much money and received inferior parts. 13:48 one of H&A owners called, and said they will talk to Trane tomorrow and will demand Trane do something and he will call me tomorrow. He said he will make it right. He also said he thinks I got a lemon and will push for new equipment. I told him I wanted inside and outside units replaced at Tranes expense. 14:30 Tech finished patching and recharging and left.
Bought a new Trane a/c and had it installed by a local installer. Less than 6 months in the unit ran out of gas and required a new coil. The lack of gas meant the condenser unit was overworked. I had the installer out 3 times before it was running again. I contacted Tranes customer service to request a new condenser as in my opinion the one I have is faulty. I cannot get a response from Trane other than it has been forwarded to our escalation department. I have written to Tranes holding company Ingersoll Rand but they have not responded either. Their ad Nothing stops a Trane rubbish. This one did and their customer service is just as bad.
Variable speed air handler manufactured by Trane has a motor failure after 11 years? Trane boasts about their rigorous testing yet with light residential use, my air handler motor FAILS??!! AND it is just beyond the 10 year warranty. Well isnt that convenient? This is unacceptable considering the amount of money paid for this product and the time and money spent in twice yearly preventative maintenance. I was hopeful that I was buying a quality product given the amount of money paid for my a/c system. I wont do it again and strongly urge others to consider Carrier or Amana over Trane. Expensive lesson learned.
I purchased a brand new Trane A/C in July 2011. Now, a year and half later, my A/C stopped blowing cold air. I called out the A/C technician and he informed me that there is a manufacture defect in the condenser units coil. The coil rubs against another piece of metal to cause a hole where the Freon leaks out. My coils had actually 2 holes where the Freon was leaking out. They told me that the coil was under warranty but they would have to charge for labor and Freon and this would cost around $700. I contacted Trane and they told me that they have no control over the prices of labor. I told them that I understood that but requested them if they could get me an A/C technician that they would pay to have it replaced and of course, I have gotten the run around. There is an attorney that is doing the investigation for a class action lawsuit. I really think they have a great case. My other issue is if I pay to have the new coil replaced with the coil Trane sends them for free, who’s to say that I dont have the same problem in another year. Have they made modifications on their coil or is it the same design as the one that has already faulted? Trane needs to stop beating around the bush and recall these faulty coils. Otherwise, word of mouth will cause them to loose a lot of business!
Trane delivers a remarkable product. Having a trained professional to install it correctly, it will last for decades with proper maintenance by a licensed HVAC technician. Not designed as a DIY project.
In April 2007 I purchased a Trane residential HVAC system for $8500 from Home Depot. The authorized Trane installer at that time was McCarthy Services. They installed the system and “completed” the install on April 9, 2007. I was given a certificate of warranty by McCarthy that covered from April 9, 2007 to April 9, 2017. Several months later I was looking for the inspection certificate from the county and found that there was not one in my paperwork. I contacted the county to get a copy. They did not find a record of a permit issued for the installation of my HVAC system. I contacted McCarthy and informed them that they did not get a permit for the install and did not have a county inspection. McCarthy was issued a permit on May 13, 2008 and had the inspector come out. The install failed inspection. They made some changes to the system, and again it failed. Finally, on July 17, 2008, the install passed inspection by the county. On July 1, 2017, the AC failed. A tech looked at it and said the compressor had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the coil also needed to be replaced as the new compressors use a different kind of freon and are not compatible with that coil. The cost was to be $5975. I called Trane and explained that the original installation did not pass inspection until July 17, 2008 so my 10-year warranty should go from July 17, 2008 to July 17, 2018 and this compressor/coil replacement should be covered by the warranty. They told me to take a hike. I paid for the install out of pocket and filed a complaint with Trane. The Trane customer service person said they could not do anything. I escalated it and that person basically told me to stick it.I am a home inspector. We used to rate Trane and Carrier as two of the best HVAC systems. We typically tell our customers that any major appliance that is 10 years old could be ready for a replacement in the near future so they should start planning. I have seen AC units that are 20 years old still running fine. More and more we are hearing horror stories about Trane HVAC systems. I no longer recommend Trane to anyone and now suggest Carrier.Trane seems to have abandoned their commitment to quality and their customer service sucks. I can attest to both. It seems that the one thing that can easily stop a Trane is a few years. So, I decided to file a suit against Trane in the hope that they would at least negotiate some partial payment to me for this replacement (which was a Trane only because if it was a Carrier I would have no chance at any reimbursement). I filed suit in small claims court in my county. I heard nothing from Trane and expected them to be a no-show on the day of court. Instead, they sent a hot-shot lawyer from Washington DC to fight me. The case was moved to regular court and a trial date was set. I had to file a document called a Bill of Particulars stating my complaint. Their hot-shot lawyer filed a 10-page reply referencing a whole bunch of cases and provided 11 reasons why I should not get my money. I am certain that this has cost Trane more than the $5000 I was looking for. This attorney did not even ask me if I was willing to take some other amount to make me happy and drop the case. They are clearly really serious about not giving a crap about their customer. Please, don’t ever buy a Trane.
I really like my Trane dealer. But… The dealer advised me that Trane is not the Trane of old. They have issues in quality and design. I need two new units and am considering Carrier or another brand. What is worse is that the customer service reps are terrible. One last comment. Before you spend a lot of money on a new HVAC system you should air seal your attic. Remove the insulation and seal every hole and joint where the drywall touches wood. Do not add insulation on top of existing insulation in a leaking attic. I spent an extra $2k to do this and replaced the cardboard rafter baffles with corrugated plastic ones from DCI. They are great and brown recluse spiders don’t like plastic. The result is that my cooling costs was reduced by at least 30%. The existing HVAC system now runs less and should help reduce the maintenance cost of a new system.
We had a Trane heat pump installed 3 years ago. Even though it is still under warranty, it is still costing us a ridiculous amount of money in repairs, yearly!!! The fault has clearly been from the manufacturing facility but Trane will only replace the part. NOT labor... and NOT the coolant replacement which leaks out due to the faulty part! Our HVAC provider refuses to sell or install any future Trane units due to the ridiculous new policies, apparently the once solid company has been bought by bankers... and customer service and quality is no longer important.
I just read 2 recent reviews that are my story!!! Omg! If someone wants to do a class action against Trane for this recurrent issue, I am in. The coil is defective and leaked coolant. The unit had been shutting down hard and sounded like it was going to explode. I also had a $500 electric bill. My HVAC company came out Saturday and put 10lbs!!! of Freon in a 14lb system. They had to order the warrantied coil. They informed me the labor and Freon would be around $1150!!! The manager reduced the price to $850, and told me to call Trane as they knew Trane worked with residential owners. Well, if you got the rep I did, I have no idea how you get anything from them. Christina was no help. She kept telling me that Freon is from a 3rd party vendor. I don’t want Freon from Trane. She also said Trane is only responsible for the part, not the Freon one or labor. But if you just admitted responsibility for the functioning of the part that keeps coolant in, your part didn’t do what you said it is supposed to. So, I paid $10000 for the unit which we are in our last year paying for. I paid $200 for Freon from a previous HVAC visit suspecting a leak with dye and found nothing. Then, the $850 I am paying tomorrow, right before our next winter event in Texas, plus the increase in the electric bill last month and most likely this month. When the tech came out Saturday at 9am, the system had gone into emergency heat on 14!!! occasions. So, I will be lucky if the electric bill is only $500 this next month. If your part fails that is responsible for keeping the coolant flowing through the unit, you are responsible Trane, for the cause and effect from that failed part which is you owing me and the others on this feed money for an obvious issue with the coil!
I am done dealing with Trane. Turns out Nothing can stop a Trane except bad customer service. Purchased a packaged rooftop HVAC unit about a year ago. It suddenly stopped working. Inspection showed the fan shroud had not been installed correctly at the factory (missing a rivet) and in time it drop down, caught the fan and ripped it from the remaining anchors. Fan & motor also damaged.Contact my installer who informed me that the shroud, fan & motor would be covered but not labor ($480) & the top cover (all bent up) because it is not a functional part of the unit (ignoring the fact it hold the fan assembly & shroud). So, add $800 to the cost of the unit. I contacted Trane myself & escalate the issue. They did not care, simply quoting the warranty. I gave up, did my best to bend the top back into place, bought a rivet gun, and fixed it myself in about two hours. This is the 4th Trane I have purchased in my remodel business. It is the last. Plenty of other options.
Im compelled to write my review about my experience with Trane and their authorized dealer YEAKLES HVAC out of Hagerstown, MD. First Yeakles completed the installation of a dual fuel (supposed) 16 seer heat pump and A|C system. Immediately I had concerns. The system just wouldnt heat my house in heat pump mode. As questioned the dealer he had argued everything is correct. Just give it time it will work. Anyway as I wait for this system to work. In January I call because again no heat in heat pump mode. He had sent a tech in. His own tech had told me my system is wrong. That his boss had installed a 5tn blower under a 4tn coil. Making it that the 5tn of air across the coil is cooling the system down not allowing it to heat up correctly. So I called Trane, file a complaint. The representative showed me documents that my system is not correct. His data showed that my 16 seer system is rated at a 14.5 seer. So you would think they would make their authorized dealer fix it right? WRONG! On March 1 Yeakles had called me confessing he had in fact installed the incorrect stuff. Great right. No, because within 5 short days Yeakles mind has changed. Even though there is documented proof. He had messed up. Yeakles is now refusing to fix it. What! Oh yeah and Trane has told me they have done all they could do. What! I thought Yeakles was your authorized dealer? Make him fix it! To my point, maybe you cant trust a Trane dealer.
I called TRANE because my TRANE HVAC unit was having problems but working. They said the technician will make only a diagnostic. That, last 4 hours!: broke my thermostat, turn off all the system and just run away, left me with 90 temperature inside the house at night. Before, my system was working 78 to 80 (when the technician arrived was 80). Now is totally off. Please do not trust them, more if you have children in this time of the year with this heat wave.
In 2017, I moved into a brand new home equipped with a Trane HVAC unit. Approximately 30 months later, the air conditioner failed. I was told that the condensing unit, a major part that normally lasts for ten years or more, was defective; that although the part itself was under warranty, the installation labor and coolant replacement were not and that a repair would cost close to $2,000. I was also informed that Trane and their dealers knew they had a problem with their condensers beginning in 2014 but continued to sell them and, as far as I know, based upon the experiences of others, still do. When the problem first occurred, Trane reimbursed the customers affected but eventually stopped the practice when it became apparent that there were so many claims.Like many of the reviewers, I was given the runaround by Trane customer service. Each time I called, I was asked to repeat all the information I had already provided as though the call was my first. I was assured over and over again that my case was under review but it was never resolved. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that it was not possible. In short, my experience with Trane customer service was probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. There are many HVAC brands worthy of consideration. Trane is not one of them.
Im a HVAC Tech that has been installing and repairing equipment for 29 yrs. When buying a new HVAC unit, its like buying a car. You never know when youre going to get a lemon. If I have problems with repairing a Trane unit, the only option that I have is to call Trane Tech support. In 29 yrs, I have called them a handful of times and never have I talked to Tech support. I have left messages and in 1 case they have called back 2 days later when I wasnt in front of the system to check what they asked me to check. I install and repair units and Trane has made the list of units that I wont sell or recommend!!!!
We bought our Trane unit about 6 years ago... First, let me start by saying that Tranes slogan Nothing runs like a Trane is accurate! Although, a bit misleading because this thing runs worse than anything weve had previously! First, the compressor went out a year after install, charged for freon and told it was a defect... Trane still fought me on trying to charge for the compressor! Next, thermal switch went out, was told we dont change our filters enough... What, twice a month aint good enough for a freakin Trane?!? Now, weve got clogging in the Condensation drain system... Enough condensation to flood my sons bedroom! Reason for the clog: Reduced ID on the drain tube and a negative gravity feed which collects sludge and clogs. Dont know what school of thought these guys have, but honestly would it hurt to have a free flowing drain system under the tray? Instead of relying on these bozos, Im going to just retube the entire drain tray and fix their crap right. When youre looking for an A/C unit, look here, look there, look everywhere but stay the heck away from Trane! Theyre bad news, problematic and worthless!
On May 23, 2016 I had a Trane 3 Ton, 16 SEER Condenser & Air Handler installed at my residence. This system uses R410a. On July 25, 2016 the units were no longer cooling, so I went outside to see what was happening. When I looked into the condenser unit I saw that the top of the compressor was cherry red so I disconnected power and called the installer. He came the next day and put some oil in the lines stating it must be a bad TXV valve. So I asked him to get a new one and he said that would not be necessary the oil did the job. It ran for the remainder of the summer.On Aug 15th 2017 the compressor started banging, going on and off, and water was coming out of the emergency drip pan PVC line. So again, I called the installer and he said given what I said happened he will order new parts; compressor and TXV. WELL it is 4 weeks now and still no parts. Call the 800 number you say? I did 5 times, I have a reference number. I know them by first name. Their answer; We understand you are upset. They cant get the parts, WILL NOT replace the units and will not give me my purchase price back. So whats a person to do? NEVER buy a TRANE - they continue to field defective units full well knowing they will break down in less than a year. And from I have read in this column, I am not that confident these replacement parts, should they ever arrive, are not going to be a permanent solution. It important to remember this system failed in less than 2 months of operation.
Had a new XL14 Trane heat pump installed in 2008. Line routing on exterior of condenser unit is defective and caused rubbing between two lines until rupture of the line. All freon lost and had to have service call to weld the line and reinstall freon. $605 later, its fixed for the moment but Trane will not stand behind what should be a warranty issue because of the defective pipe routing. Cannot recommend Trane to anyone.
I bought this house that had two XR14 4-1/2 ton Trane Split heat pumps that were installed in 2010. The first major issue was April 2017. The coil in the air handler corroded from dissimilar metal corrosion. $3000 later for a Trane Parent American Standard Air Handler. July 2017 same thing happened. The repair guy put in $400 worth of super seal to get us through so they would not have to replace the other air handler in the attic. Nov 2017 it died. $6500 for an American Standard split Heat pump replacement. Jan 2018 the original Trane Condensing unit GE ECM condensing fan motor failed is been warm so researching why Trane would use a variable speed motor in an application where the whole unit is a single speed and the condensing fan runs at single speed.The main difference (Wholesale $600) vs a $150 + $10 capacitor connected to your T1 & T2 terminals. My AC guy said that the wont get a computer code when the fan fails again. Im like DUHHHH! The compressor was running and the fan stopped. Thats how I know it failed. Why would I need a computer to tell me the P.O.S. TRANE unit has failed. I am not expecting much better out of the American Standard. I am sure they are all made in the same place with different labels slapped on them. I know some of the cheaper brands do the same thing from a rental property where my 12 SEER unit ran for over 20 years. Doesnt Take much to stop a Trane but it sure takes an act of God to get the parts for them.
I purchased a 3 ton 15 seer air conditioner from Climate Control in Liberty, MO. The first time it broke down at about one year after installation, Climate Control would not fix it without my signing a long term maintenance agreement, and they were rude and nasty upon my visit. The second time it broke down at 30 months old, I called Trane directly and had horrible customer service. The CSR kept trying to get me to call one of her preselected service providers and sign up for a long term maintenance agreement. The warranty DOES NOT require a maintenance agreement, and all they want to do is sell you more stuff. The A/C unit is a bad unit. Trane needed to simply stand behind their product. $4,800 was my cost.

I purchased a Trane air conditioner in March 2015 and an extended warranty. My ac broke last night August 15, its very hot in Florida in August. I called the company that the extended warranty is with and was told the tech had the night off and wouldnt be able to help me until after 2 pm the next day. What kind of service is that? I purchased Trane and paid more money because I wanted something that would last not break down 5 months later.
Replaced a 14-yr old 5-ton RHEEM split system with a new 5-ton XV20i condenser (matched field - XC80 gas furnace and 5-ton evaporator coil in the attic). Well, I was surely sold on looks and the rhetoric of what it can do - a variable speed (720 speeds) of compressor and furnace, Wi-Fi capable, energy-efficiency, etc. Right from the start I realized there is something fundamentally wrong with this AC system. As an example, lowering the temp. from 75 to 73 degrees takes over an hour to achieve (with inside humidity of 50% and outside temp just below 90 degrees). My old Rheem unit, before going out (due to its evaporator coil leaking) would take about 5 mins (for sure no more than 10 mins under similar conditions). After the system was installed I thoroughly inspected each and every duct supply coming out of the new plenum for leaks and found none. Please note, I did not have new ducts installed, so my existing ones were used with the new system. Also, the new system was connected to the existing freon lines (that run from the outside unit to the attic). I believe, if the freon lines (hidden as they pass thru walls and to the attic) are leaking (thus showing that the system is undercharged), the thermostat would detect such and give an error code. But no alerts or error code(s). When the unit is cooling (fan blower is on), there is a loud, annoying noise coming from one of the two return vents. When at night, being quiet, the noise is so loud that we can not stand it and takes us longer to fall asleep.Asking the install company to investigate/resolve an issue is like asking for a discount after you already paid them for the service - after being paid for their service, they are gone/done with you! Making things worse, calling Tranes customer service is just a joke - long wait time, untrained / uninformed customer service people. The company does not have any tech support. The company does not have a field rep like other HVAC manufacturers do. You get ZERO support from this company and you will immediately feel unwelcome when talking to them.As a result, we have nowhere to go, no help from Trane at all!!! Their response was call your installer or an authorized Trane dealer for help. Well, calling another dealer for service, after you tell them you had a brand new system installed a week ago, they will shy away (not wanting to deal with another installers flaws). Trane knows that and they do not care. This is TOTALLY unacceptable! Folks, this is a bad company, PERIOD!! Think twice before you buy their products. This has been an ongoing nightmare... cannot cool the house efficiently and cannot sleep at night from the noise. All of these because of Trane (an unorganized company making flawed products and providing zero tech support)! SHAME ON YOU TRANE!
Coil Leaking, HVAC person tells us ALL HVAC UNITS are bad now. I hope the title says it all. I purchased a high-end TRANE for roughly $8000 a little over 4 years ago and while still under warranty the coil has been leaking and I ran out of Freon. To fill the unit up to get through the summer I spent about $700 for the coolant. The warranty doesnt cover labor, so even if I order a new coil under warranty, it will cost a fortune to install it, with no guarantee it will perform any better. My HVAC person said theres roughly 350,000 units with bad coils right now. Is there an agency I can call, like an insurance commissioner in our state? I know theres such a thing as a Lemon Law with respect to cars. Can there be a class action suit brought against these companies?
We purchased an American Standard/Trane HVAC unit in 2012 with a 5 year warranty. When they installed our furnace in 2012 they also installed the air conditioning coils but the outdoor unit was not installed until a year later. Therefore, the air conditioning coils were not in use until that time. Our AC failed less than 5 years later and the cause was the air conditioning coils. Not only were we without air conditioning during a record heat wave, we had to pay nearly 1200 in repairs. I have had a very bad experience with the Customer Escalation Department at Trane. They told me that even though the unit was clearly not in use for 5 years, they could not and would not provide any compensation for our costs. We chose American Standard because we thought we were purchasing from a good company who would stand behind their product. We were so wrong!
I am a HVAC contractor having installed Trane and American standard units for many years. So 3.5 years ago (this was the year they switched over from R-22 to R410A refrigerant... R410A is a much higher pressure refrigerant!) we installed a new Trane 2 circuit 10 ton condenser and air handler to cool a server room located in a 4 story building. After 13 months of operation the unit sprung a leak.. Trane said 1 year warranty was over so we repaired the leak, no charge to the customer. 2 years later another leak in a different brazing joint. 3 years later two more leaks on separate circuits and again on different brazing joints.. 3.5 years another leak... Finally customer had enough of their servers shutting down in emergency mode causing damage and customer loss.. We lost complete trust in the ability of this unit to hold a refrigerant charge. I stepped in again and installed a complete new condensing unit, crane rental, spot cooler rentals and all.... Thousands of dollars later I demanded Trane reimburse the cost of the new condenser and I would handle all other cost and rentals, they declined! The 10 ton Lemon is stored in the back of my shop at the moment (in case I need it for proof). Needless to say I have ended all sales of Trane and American Standard.
After having over a hundred TRANE HVAC units installed by ZIRO and distributed by TERMO SERVIS, we had to replace all these rusted units (see attached photos) that were manufactured by Ingersoll Rands Kolin, Czech Republic manufacturing facility. These TRANE units were examined by a court-appointed expert who concluded that the manufacturer Ingersoll Rand used inferior quality materials in the manufacturing process. After only a total of less than 20 months of cooling activity, we had to replace completely over a hundred TRANE HVAC units due to corrosion. The most disappointing part of this entire process was that nobody from Ziro, Termo Servis, Trane nor Ingersoll Rand contacted us to find a solution to this serious problem. Even after receiving the report from the court-appointed expert, none of the above-mentioned companies (Ziro/Termo Servis/Trane/Ingersoll Rand) contacted us. Definitely zero quality and evidence that it doesnt take much to stop a TRANE.
2.5 ton HVAC unit defective coil - Unit was installed on May 24, 2014. One month beyond unit installation guarantee on parts and labor the unit quit cooling. The unit originally cost $4,500 and the installer BURGESS AIR CONDITIONING LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA does not offer financing. Two years and one month later, we required service and the replacement of the coil which cost us $891. Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.
Absolutely horrible product, customer service and shady warranties. We purchased a Trane HVAC system, XL90 furnace and a 2 ton AC unit in 2009. It is used a couple months out of the year at a lakefront house in Chicago and was installed 6 years ago. Warranty paperwork says 10 yr warranty. Trane says 5 yr. We are stuck with an inoperative system. It is now August and Trane Customer Service has yet to warranty their product. We are left without an AC unit again this summer - installer wants $4000 to replace a 5/6 year old unit. Trane wont cover compressor or condenser or other failed parts. There are better manufactured HVAC units out there. DONT BUY A TRANE. They do not warranty their products and there is a huge amount of built in obsolescence.
Purchased the new heat pump in 2014. It replaced a 25+ year old YORK system. Within a year the condenser developed a violent shaking and rattling during a storm. We called an American Standard recommended technician in our area and he said unit developed a leak. We got it fixed at our cost of $600. The unit also has a musty odor called stinky sock smell occasionally when we turn it on...It is disgusting so we installed an ultraviolet light again at our cost....Needless to say our other heater never had any shaking or smells. We contacted American Standard to try to figure out what the problem was with the shaking and smell. We got no answers and told us parts were under warranty but not labor... In 2019 the compressor failed, we replaced that to the tune of 1700 labor costs. A month later another part inside. Within a week a reverse coil part failed. WE contacted American Standard/TRANE to file a complaint regarding the unit and our costs to replace parts. We have maintained the unit and sent a 40 page pdf of a history of maintenance and repairs. So far there has been no response even though we have called several times to find out about our case. Lesson learned. Do not buy a new American Standard/Trane hvac.
Trane dealer installed a new Trane heat pump system in Summer 2016. I regret I did not read the reviews online. The system started having problems in winter 2018. Dealer checked it and said the heater in air handler was broken and needed replacement. Then defrost board and fan motor in heat pump were found broken. The condenser coil could also be leaking. I was shocked by all these major issues. Dealer just told me I was unlucky to get a bad system. I was asked to pay about $900 labor fee since only parts are under warranty. In addition, there could be other issues since testing could not be done without replacing the parts. So whole system is a junk. I complained to dealer manager, then to Trane customer service, then escalated to supervisor. I sent them all the documents they asked for, but never heard from them. Whenever I called them, I was transferred many times and held for one hour, but nothing was done. I emailed them many times, but no reply. People working at Trane just don’t care. Do not buy Trane products, because you will regret.
Even though I have had my current systems for only three years, I am very happy with Trane. The two units I have have been operating flawlessly for the entire time. The systems that were here when I purchased the house needed great deal of TLC for several years, even though they were only two years old when me bought the property. When my daughter in Massachusetts had an addition put on her house two years ago and asked my advice, I told her that both my personal research and my experience had convinced me to go with Trane.
Bought a brand new unit 2-1/4 years ago. Selected an installer from Tranes own website. After 2-1/4 years of service the unit the condenser coil (aluminum) got a pin-hole leak. Installer wanted $2000.00 to fix it!!!! And THIS was under warranty! Trane offered to help by paying 15%. We went a different route and will NEVER EVER EVER EVER. Not for our homes or our commercial buildings NEVER EVER. I highly suggest you avoid Trane at all costs. They are trash. The 10 year parts warranty is useless since the part is of almost no value. The labor and the refrigerant is where all the costs are. AVOID!
We own a 5 year old Trane HVAC system that came with a 10 year warranty. It just required a $1400 repair which the repair technician indicated was a design flaw/manufacturer defect. I created a case with Trane requesting reimbursement and their response was a quite dismissive form letter denying any responsibility for their faulty system. Check out their Facebook page before purchasing a Trane product. Its FULL of similar complaints from other disgruntled consumers. I intend to file more formal complaints.
My unit is 4 yrs old & the condenser coil broke. It has cost me $1200 for Freon & repairs. Called service to explain and ask for help since my unit is so new. Well, I shouldnt have wasted my time. Woman in dept was actually rude! They will do nothing to help you and I am a senior and live in poverty but that meant nothing. Dont buy Trane based on their reputation because they dont live up to it!!!
I have 6 Trane units at my restaurant, 2.5 years old, I have had to replace condenser coil in one unit, no a compressor in another unit. Of course with commercial they only give a one year warranty, the units constantly back up with water. I thought I was buying the best, I have had 2 for their online thermostats go out at 500 a pop. Leaking freon, argggg, nightmare, I called the manufacturers rep about the parts going out on the systems and left with, Too bad so sad.
My wife and I purchased a 2500 sf. home in 2011 that was equipped with 2 Trane HVAC systems. The home was designed to operate with 2 systems to provide adequate airflow for both 1st & 2nd floors and to eliminate the excessive wear & tear of only relying on 1 unit to do the job. To this point, I have never owned a home that was equipped with a Trane product, but have always heard great things. We actually thought we were getting a little Peace of Mind because of the feedback weve heard about the Trane brand, but Peace of Mind was the last thing we received.Our opinion about Trane products took a turn for the worst last week when I noticed that the AC system sounded slightly louder than usual. My first instinct was to check the vents for airflow, which there was no cold ac coming out. When I checked the main HVAC unit, I noticed the lines were frozen (usually means low Freon or better yet, a Freon leak). At this point I called a reputable AC company to come out, fix the leak and recharge the system. When the technician arrived he began troubleshooting the system and discovered there was severely more problems with the unit than originally expected. When the technician opened the unit he noticed that there was excessive corrosion to the internal parts, which also needed to be repaired.After a full survey of my ac system the technician told me that I have 2 choices: Option 1, repair the defective internal parts which was quoted at $2,600.00 or Option 2 Replace the entire AC system for about $6,000.00. I called Trane to inquire about any warranty offering and the lady kindly informed me that my unit was not covered.Im not a detractor of the Trane brand because of the quoted cost of repair, I am completely aware of the Cost of Ownership and maintenance cost. Im a detractor of the brand because the product performance/life expectancy does not meet the companys product message. There is a certain level of expectations that consumers have when they spend their additional money for a premium product. Being a first time Trane owner and having had my first experience working with Tranes customer service, I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in ever owning another Trane. I will try to load pictures of my A/C system to accurately reflect its condition. Externally, the system looks brand new. Internally, well, that is a different story.
I had a new Trane air conditioner unit installed in the March of 2015. In August 2016 it stopped cooling and the coil in the air handler was leaking refrigerant. The cost to repair this was $1,200. Trane did replace the coil under the warranty, but they would not cover the repair cost. The supply company said they have seen several of their new units fail the same way as ours. The air conditioner stopped cooling again after only two days of operation. This appears to be a quality issue and is costing us consumers a lot of money and the reliability of Trane is NOT good.My old unit lasted for over 20 years with no major issues, it was only replaced due to its lack of efficiency and cost of operation. Based on the over $10,000 this new unit has cost me so far, it would have been cheaper to keep the old unit, $10,000 would buy a lot of electricity. I am not happy and am ready to bite the bullet, cut my losses and replace the entire system with another system, but NOT Trane.
When I bought my house it still had the original Trane unit and it lasted 10 more years. That means it lasted 25 years. Naturally I thought I could trust them again for a quality product. I got the xr13 heat pump and hyperion air handler. From the beginning the air handler has been blowing massive amount of air out. The installer tried to get Trane to help but they said it was normal. It felt like an air blower coming out of the unit. That is not normal. The installer said lots of customers had similar complaints about that product. Now my fan on the condenser wont work after only 8 months. Trane doesnt stand by their product anymore and they make junk. Do yourself a favor and buy anything else.
10 years ago we had a Trane heat pump and indoor unit installed, we didnt buy the extended warranty because Trane appeared to be a solid brand. Literally each year during a/c season weve had to replace some portion of the indoor and/or compressor units. Weve had a circuit board short out because a lizard found a way onto the compressor electronics box. Weve replaced 3 master control boards in the inside unit and numerous other circuit boards and sensors. The system has not been reliable and has cost us as much in repairs as we paid for it originally. The Trane website talks about all the extensive testing they do but they seem to overlook basic things. It doesnt seem that we should have to replace this many electronics each time we start the a/c season.
In April 2015 we purchased what we believed to be a quality XV20i “TruComfort System”. We spent $17,500. From the beginning, our electric bills increased during times when temperatures are below freezing. We have had sleepless nights due to the loud compressor noise and the system runs 24 hours a day at times. The coils ice up so badly that the ice build up extends out of the side vents and into the fan compartment. We have to resort to our emergency heat unit as the fan blades hit the ice and cannot function. We wait until the unit thaws out with above freezing temps. Our HVAC company has been out multiple times and says all sensor readings are normal and basically don’t know how to fix our problem. Again we have paid for multiple service calls, the most recent $294 with no resolution. Unlike others, I have not attempted to call Trane, as it seems impossible to get help. Our local dealer promises to take care of us, but my faith is dwindling. We work hard for our dollars just like the rest, and it is very frustrating to spend this kind of money on a product that does not live up to its name. It is like robbery.
Paid a large sum of money thinking I was getting the best. Four years and the compressor went out. Waited a week for a new one and that one lasted less than one week. Waiting for another compressor should be about 10 day wait. No a/c. Its 91 outside. Beware. Read the fine print. If you dont register your warranty you get a reduced one. Also yes I have to pay the labor charges.
My husband and I purchased a Trane air conditioner and furnace in 2009. Both came with 10 year warranties on parts. Since we have had both units, each has broken every 2-3 years. The air conditioner broke in June of 2012 on a 90 degree day. The furnace broke in November 2015 on a very cold Michigan winter. June 2017 rolls around more problems with the air conditioner. We are feeling a sense of complacency and BOOM, summer of 2019 and the air conditioner fails us on another 90 degree day. We consult their website and Trane sends their MOST incompetent technician. Moral to the story: Do not buy anything from Trane!
I had a new Trane HVAC unit installed three years ago after having nothing but problems for years with the original unit that came with the new house I bought. When we turned on the heat this year nothing but cold air came out. The installer came out and tells me that the TXV unit is bad, has a clog, and a hole is in the freon line coming off the TXV. Total cost $1400 so far. When I talked to Trane they wont cover anything but replace the TXV which I have to pay to be installed. Due to it failing I have to pay for the Freon, and due to it blocking the line it caused a leak in the line, I have to pay for it to be repaired. TRANE claims to be the best there is, IT IS JUNK. Three years and a major failure of parts are not normal and as a consumer, I should not have to spend thousands of dollars to fix TRANE junk. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE, poor product and no customer service.
We are an HVAC contractor in California and have been in business for 40 years. In the last 3 years, we have seen more coil problems than in all the previous 37 years put together. Trane is not admitting to people that they have had a huge problem with quality control. Unfortunately, we are the middle-man on these issues and customers get upset when we have to charge money for our labor, refrigerant and welding materials to replace these coils. Trane gives nothing towards these costs. No wonder Americans are upset about so called American made products. We are tired of getting blamed for bad manufacturing. When you are a small business in America these days, you get squeezed between big government and big business. America, wake up and start spending money locally or this trend will continue and we will become an oligarchy, not a republic!
We purchased a new Trane A/C 16 months ago and have had a few small problems. Now our A/C has quit working due to a coolant leak. Paid $349 for a leak test only to find out the leak is in the evaporator coils in the air handler. The part is under warranty but labor to replace it will be $999. I spoke to a Trane representative thinking they should foot at least a portion of the bill because if their product worked correctly I would never be in this position. They adamantly refused to consider even paying anything, intimating that it was the environment or installation that caused the problem. We had our last air conditioner 15 years before having any service problems and have barely made it a year with this unit. This will be my last Trane purchase.
Built a new home in 2008 and had a TRANE HVAC installed. The AC coil leaked and was repaired within the first year. Now the unit is 8 yrs old and I am told that both the AC coil and the inside attic coil is leaking. Repairs will cost as much as installing a complete system, according to Smiths AC company. Im now shopping for a more reliable brand. Hopefully with American made parts.
I bought a brand new Trane condenser. It broke down after 6 months. Trane refused to honor their warranty. I ended up having to pay full price to replace but did not buy another Trane. Terrible customer service. Considering small claims court.
I purchased a brand new furnace air conditioner from Apollo H&C in 2002 and within weeks was having issues. This went on for over a year and the installation company, Apollo, replaced nearly every part in the furnace and it STILL wasnt right. Finally, they replaced the furnace with a brand new one and that one began having issues. Here it is 12 years later and I am still dealing with a product that I would NEVER recommend to my worst enemy. Not only did they install a lemon of a furnace TWICE, but I was told the furnace was too small for my home & the A/C was too large. The A/C blows out every year when we first turn it on and has to have a part replaced nearly every year. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE & APOLLO HEATING & COOLING IN S.C.S., MICHIGAN.
Im writing this review in regards to Trane air conditioning and heating unit that we purchased in 2015. Just after having unit for six months we had to replace the compressor unit outside. I continue to make calls to the installers of this unit regarding the air-conditioner not cooling. After coming to our house six different times to service the air-conditioner and installing Freon in the unit multiple times. We were told our air-conditioner now require new evaporator coils. The cost would be $995. I then decided to get another opinion of what was wrong with our air conditioner. Each person I had look at the unit had something different to tell me about what was wrong with it. I then decided to call the Trane manufacturer. They gave me a name of a Trane dealer teams. So I called them. They came out, told us that we needed to have the Expansion valve replaced. We did. That was $350, That didnt fix the unit so they had to do a complete unit inspection and have a trane support team tell them what was wrong with it. Now we need evaporator coils replaced. Now its another $950. This air-conditioner is less than two years old and weve had nothing but problems. Trane Will not stand behind their product. Do not buy a Trane.
I find it hard to read all these negative reviews about Trane. I am Canadian and sell and install Trane furnace's, A/C, Heat pumps and air handlers since 1991 with very little issues at all. I sell a 10 year parts and labour program with every piece of equipment just to make our customers more comfortable with the equipment and if it is required it protects them from any charges for 10 years. I am thinking that the installs that I am reading about are not done to manufacturer's specification which is very important to follow or the equipment will not work properly and or the installers are not properly trained or qualified. There are contractors here also that are not qualified and only care about getting your money, Trane will take away your dealership if you have continuous install problems.
My home in SW Florida was built in 1967. Any HVAC system will have a challenge keeping up with the humidity and high temps here. My Trane AC system is 6 years old. It performs pretty well for the most part. I use cheap filters that allow the system breath and I replace them every month. Don’t waste money on expensive filters unless you have serious allergies. Thick filters make the AC work harder and will wear out the equipment.General maintenance is easy and I am diligent about keeping the outside unit clean. I use a spray bottle with watered down Dawn dish soap and a garden hose. I regularly clear the drain pipe with my shop vac. I had a routine check-up recently from my home maintenance provider (HomeTech - I highly recommend) and asked the tech why cold air is blowing out of the crevices around the maintenance doors and bolts on my air handler. Plain and simple, it is a design flaw. He said he sees it all the time on Trane units.I called Trane to find out if there was a replacement part for the casing or a recommended remedy. It was a runaround... All they would tell me is to call my dealer to evaluate the problem. That would cost me $119 for somebody to come out and say, “yep, there’s cold air leaking from the air handler into your garage. Ill call Trane and get back to you.” Parts are covered, but there was no evidence of parts available. Please! My solution was Gorilla tape and bubble wrap to cut down the loss of cold air. It worked, but it really shouldn’t be so difficult to get a straight answer and a fair solution. I paid a lot of money for my AC system. I didn’t expect to be patching it myself.There is a lot of room for improvement.
This correspondence is in regards to an erratic and dangerous Trane service vehicle my daughter and I encountered Friday morning (2/12/2016) at 6:30 AM on US 290 at West 43rd in Houston, Texas. I was in the process of taking my daughter to school, the Duchesne Academy in the Memorial area, when we came upon a stalled vehicle in the right lane on the US 290 eastbound main lanes. As usual, the drivers in the adjacent middle lane took turns allowing vehicles from the blocked right lane to merge in. When it came our turn to shift over, the next vehicle intentionally speeded up to block our vehicle from merging in. When it became evident that our vehicle had already moved over before the van could cut us off, the vehicle behind us swerved into the left lane, accelerated past us, got in front of us and slammed on his brakes. For the next two miles the Trane driver continued to slam on his brakes, attempting to cause an accident.Although my daughter and I were not able to get the license plate for the vehicle, we did get the company name plastered all over the vehicle - Trane HVAC Services - Hunton Distribution, Unit 210. In having dealt with Trane personnel elsewhere in the country, I was always impressed with their courteous attitude and professionalism. Needless to say, my family and I are disappointed with the irrational and antagonistic Trane staff weve encountered in Houston to date. Presuming the driver of Hunton Distributions Unit 210 is representative of their staff in Houston, we will certainly think twice before having this service company work on our residential Trane units.
I live in the second most populous area of Virginia. When My Trane furnace quit working the HVAC serviceman said it needed a part. If it was in stock locally no problem but there is only one local parts distributor which, of course didnt have the part. 3 to 5 days to get it!! IT MAY BE HARD TO STOP A TRANE ITS EVEN HARDER TO GET ONE REPAIRED. Based on my HVAC Servicemans advice my replacement furnace will NOT be a Trane. Overpriced, Overhyped, Poor Service.
Moved into our new home and had a new Trane HVAC System installed two-years-ago. About a week ago, my wife and I noticed that the heater began making a rumbling noise when starting. A couple of days later, the rumbling startup noise grew worse and became a constant loud noise resembling a playing card in bike spokes. We called the authorized Trane servicer who installed the unit in our home. The technician told us that the Blower Wheel broke away from the hub and needed to be replaced. The technician told us that we would be responsible for troubleshooting and labor cost to replace the part. After reviewing the Trane limited warranty; it is just that, very limited coverage for their obvious unreliable product. Ive owned several homes in my lifetime and never experienced a near new unit fail in such a short time. This is not the time have our heater breakdown when a historical cold front (single digits) is on us. The Trane model for this issue is 4TGB3F48A1000AA. After reading about similar failures to others, we are researching to locate a more reliable product and company.
Trane condensing unit. The copper pipe on the condensing unit, due to vibration, worn out and caused the refrigerant to leak. There wasnt any protective material around the copper pipe to prevent this problem. Woodson and Bozeman, Inc. Memphis, TN Trane dealer didnt honor the warranty. They didnt stand behind Trane product. I will not buy any Trane product.
I have purchased several TRANE HVAC units over the years, as have my family. I have 2 new units 2.5 years old, in March, I was told the evaporator coil was broken and all the refrigerant had leaked out. I have maintained my units as recommended, even bought new Freon lines to avoid the whole leak scandal. TRANE did replace the part and paid 1/2 of the labor which was $1200. A month later, 2 capacitor motors are broken--on these 2.5 year old units. Customer service staff are robots that keep repeating they will not honor labor assistance but one time, they have no desire to discuss doing right by the customer nor will they allow you to speak to anyone in upper management that may actually care. NEVER BUYING A TRANE AGAIN.
I’m a master HVAC tech. I installed 2 Trane xl16 heat pumps in my in-law’s house in 2006. So far both inside coils blew out in the first two years and one of the replacement coils that was suppose to be of better construction just blew out in the same place the last one did. Although I can get the parts under warranty, I’m out $250 worth of 410a Freon, not to mention the time and aggravation. All I can say is what happened to Trane and where did their quality go? Obviously profit outweighs making a good product. It has gone downhill so bad that companies in my area that have sold them for decades quit selling them, including me.
This is the second time our Trane air conditioner broke. First time a simple fix, a switch. This time the motor failed. Trane will not cover the motor. Our Trane dealer can’t even get a motor to replace this one as it is on back order. What does that tell you. It has been 2 weeks and still the part is on back order. I will never buy another Trane unit. My recommendation to everyone is DO NOT buy one.
4 years ago the Trane condenser burned out. The air handler was also replaced with similar units. They too burned out after one week. A third unit was installed and I was told they were units made in China...so now after 3 new units failing they installed a Rheem unit for the air handler and a Trane for the condenser. The condenser just burned out again, and I am told the same thing. Made in China...or Mexico?? Anyhow that is 4 units in 4 years...and my system is clean and all new.
My Trane heat pump quit and I called Country Heating and Cooling Inc to check it out and make the repairs. The system was less than 5 years old and still under the 10 year parts warranty. They discovered a very small leak in copper tubing and made the repair. They also replaced the condenser fan motor I assume because the leak caused a failure in the motor. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldnt refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. Its even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. Top lawyers dont make that much.
For our home we have purchased two Trane Air conditioners in last seven years. First one lasted only 5 years and I had replaced with another Trane Unit for upstairs bedrooms. It was big mistake. Second unit was installed on March 15, 2014. Annual maintenance contract was signed with installer. In last week of July 2015 AC compressor stop working. We have to sleep on the floor downstairs until new compressor was installed on August 3, 2015. July August are hottest months in Georgia. In April 2016, our air conditioner stop working again. Tech person diagnosed that indoor coil was leaking and it was replaced. Again in August 2016, compressor was stop working and we are without air conditioning in our upstairs bedroom for last 3 weeks. We are sleeping again downstairs floor for last 3 weeks.Thank God downstairs Tempstar AC unit still working next to Trane AC Unit for last 35 years without any issues. Now that is manufacture quality which I do not find in Trane Units that I have dealt in last seven years. I have to pay $160.00 for diagnosis. When I contacted Trane customer service at 1 800 945 5884 two weeks about their defective product and ask for replacement unit, I got around. They keep losing my supporting documents and I have to resubmit 4 times on email provided. Finally after two weeks, escalation specialist Jennifer ** contacted me to advise that company policy does not allow to replace unit and I have to spend my own money for labor cost. When I insisted then she offered me $500.00 maximum to repair unit.Any reasonable homeowner expect that their big investment in brand new AC unit would last only two years. Other brand name like my Tempstar still working after 35 years. My conclusion is based on my experience that Trane Units are manufactured poorly and lack quality control. Please do not buy Trane AC products, unless you want nightmare dealing with repair cost, discomfort and hassle with their customer service. The company does not stand by with its products.
I built my house and had an XL16i installed in 2005. Within 6 months there was a recall and the installer came out and swapped out both the exchanger and the compressor (virtually changed everything out except the copper and control lines). Since that time the high and low compressors have been replaced (at different times) three times up until the 10 year compressor warranty period expired. Since there is no coverage for freon or labor, I ate the costs every time and could probably have saved a reasonable amount toward the purchase of a reputable and reliable unit by now. So... two months (2016) out of the 10 year warranty the low-level compressor has once again failed.My service company was kind enough to wire past the defective compressor and now the unit is running on the high level compressor only. It is simply a matter of time before the remaining stage fails. I spoke at length with the Service Techs and both stated this has been a known, ongoing issue with this unit (in the HVAC community they replace these compressors on a regular basis!) and Trane simply ignores its existence... They (Trane) have a stockpile of compressors known to fail, a system (i.e. XL16i) with these ongoing, inherent problems which they refuse to address, and customers are simply stuck with their lemons! Where is a Class-action lawyer when you need them?
All dates are estimated. Back in 2009, we had Vailes install a new Trane Heat Pump (outside unit and Air-handler in attic) along with all new flex duct work. After a full summer of running the unit - the dirty-sock syndrome smell came about in our upstairs. We called Vailes and they brought their Trane Rep, Ken **, out to investigate. He tweaked some of the duct work and airflow (speeds) on the air handler and also coated the coils so that it would not make that smell. He also redesigned the ramp so that water would not flow over the ramp...Everything seemed okay - until we had a Mold specialist check out our entire house. He found Mold in the Trane air handler and in the duct work. He found no other issues with the house. We contacted Vailes and shared the Mold report with them. They came out and looked and took pictures to share with their Trane Rep (Ken ** out of Richmond). They came back with a solution of cleaning out the air handler for estimated $500.00 and installing a UV light for another $1,000.00. I replied back with the following request to Vailes: Our game plan is to counter with: to have a Trane Rep come out and look at the situation. Possible solutions: Air flow is set incorrectly (after talking with other large heating and cooling companies). Another red flag: Having 3-4 degree variances in rooms upstairs. Some rooms have an extreme blast of air flow (especially in the winter). Our home was inspected by a professional environmental technician and the house is clean. The only issue is the air-handler in the attic.After discussing this situation further with my wife, father, Riddlebarger, and Landis Heating, they all suggested that Trane should come out and redo/check the air flow. They also think it could be a potential trunk issue as well. I was going to have my wife run with this but I dont want to add anything else to her plate. Will you please contact Trane again with our circumstance? We need to fix the issue and I would like for Trane to be there.Vailes shared this request with Ken ** (Trane Rep in Richmond) and Ken replied back to me with the following: The mold that is growing in the home is a product of the environment that the equipment is in. The Trane (or any other brand equipment) does not produce the bacteria; it already exists in the structure. The effort that needs to be put in is to address the source of bacteria whether it is infiltrating form the crawlspace, attic, basement, windows, fireplace, sewer system, or from the people that live in the house. The bacteria growing in the AHU is happening because it is a nice environment for it to grow (warm and moist) depending on the season but it is not the source. There is nothing that Trane can do to address the structure or the infiltration to the home. Vailes has made some suggestions about accessories that can be added to a system to help manage the bacteria (UV lights, and electronic air filters); these may help reduce the potential for growth in the unit but the bacteria will still be in the home.I was not satisfied with his response so I brought in several other HVAC dealers to analyze the situation. They have all pointed to the duct work and airflow. I could get another HVAC dealer to redo all the duct work but that puts me in a major financial crisis. I feel like they (Vailes and the Trane Rep) should have looked at the situation closer. Obviously, they knew something was wrong from the start when they coated the coils and redid the airflow and ramp shortly after it was installed. I feel like the coated coils only masked the issue. For some reason, we are getting mold in the air handler. Any suggestions? One particular HVAC dealer said that he firmly thinks it is the duct work - because the duct work going to the returns are the biggest he has ever seen on a ton 1/2 unit. He also said there is no trunk line (all lines are coming straight out of the small boxes on the air handler...). Hearing from 4 other HVAC dealer that they think it is the duct work - tells me something. I am meeting with two other HVAC dealers this week as well to see what they think. But it is very disappointing having to go to other dealers to fix this problem. We turned the unit off once the mold was found (back in April). I have a wife and 4 children and need to place some urgency on this.
Purchased Trane HVAC system in September 2014. I live in Southern CA on the coast where air conditioning and heating is rarely needed except for unseasonal cold and hot days. Went to turn the AC on in July 2018 and it did not work. Ultimately determined that there was no refrigerant/coolant in the unit. Was also told that there have been ongoing issues with the Trane unit/components breaking. In my case it may be the coil component. At a cost of $550 the unit was refilled with refrigerant and a sealer with the hope that the sealer fixes any potential leaks. We will see. I would not expect a central air conditioning unit that is rarely used to break down after 3 seasons of use.Updated on 09/29/2018: Two month update - the AC unit is not working again. The house is not cooling down. Grrr. I will update again after service/repair technician comes.
OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 2011. In July 2012, returned from vacation to find that fan had quit working. Fixed in 2 days. In July 2014, the CleanEffects quit working - diagnosed as a bad door which contains the electronics. Waited 2 weeks for part. Called installer who said the Trane was having a problem supplying the part as they had changed to a new company to manufacture the units and parts for the CleanEffects. Installer said that he was trying to get local distributor to provide the door from a unit in stock but to date that has not been accomplished.I sent email to Trane and received response stating that they hoped to have backlog of parts orders caught up by mid-August 2014. My concern and disappointment with Trane stems from the fact that the company and its distributors appear quite ready to sell CleanEffects units on hand knowing full well they cannot support the product and are at the same time ignoring needs of current owners of the units. Trane seems to have a problem maintaining parts inventories for their products. I would certainly advise anyone to steer clear of buying the CleanEffects air cleaner as Im not convinced that it does much of anything when it does work.
After much research, we choose an American Standard Heat Pump and Air Handler because of Consumer Report listing their product as top in reliability. Complete system was installed in January of 2016 by Speedy Air Conditioning of Port St Lucie, FL. Since that time, we have had three (3) evaporator coil failures and, last month, the compressor and condensing fan motor failed. This system has a complete failure in every aspect. We are requesting a complete new system, including heat pump and air handler, and were deeply disappointed when the request for a new heat pump, rather than a repair, was rejected.The dealers owner/manager, David Binder, has written that in almost 43 years of HVAC industry experience, I cannot recall ever replacing 3 evaporator coils and having also a condensing fan motor and compressor fail all within the first 4 and a half years of a system being installed, and hope this information will assist you in acquiring replacement equipment from the Manufacturer.
Have had issues with indoor air handler letting condensate water run in our house. Had been worked on more than 6 times by two different certified installers and a Trane representative has been out as well. The original installer walked away and wouldn’t honor warranty or extended warranty that had been purchased. Had to pay out of pocket a second installer to come fix the issue which returned the following the summer again.
Installed a brand new HVAC unit in 2013. In 2018 the outdoor line cracked twice not covered under warranty. $400 to fix. In 2019 the compressor went bad. Apparently you have to register both the unit and the compressor separately in order to get the 10-year warranty. Which in my opinion is a scam so that maybe youll miss it and they can reduce the warranty to 5 years. At 5 years and 11 months $1,000 compressor went bad. No help from Trane at all. $1,900 bill this time, and only a one-year warranty on the new compressor. Buy another brand.
Expensive junk- deceptive customer service. We had a split system installed in our sunroom as part of a major home renovation project. The unit functioned erratically the whole time. We were told by the contractor that it was to be expected or maybe we were not using it right. Last December, 14 months later, the condenser died due to condensation turning it into a solid block of ice. We contacted a Trane certified repair company and found out our product has not been registered for the three year warranty, and the one year basic warranty had expired.I contacted Trane, to explain that my husband and I were not at fault for this, and asked them to stand behind their product and help us out. I wasnt expecting a full replacement or even 100% part replacement, but at least 50%. Their response after almost two months of back and forth, providing all sorts of information and getting transferred to three tiers of customer service levels, was to offer us 15% off a new unit. $315 for a $2200 installation! So much for standing behind their products! I guess I should have checked this site first and noted the one star rating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because I believe three out of the four CS reps truly tried to help, but it came down to the Escalation Specialists who dropped the hammer on my hopes for a decent resolution.
We have a TRANE ductless mini split 2 ton heat pump, installed & sold by D&B HVAC Heating & Air out of Branson, MO. We have had SO MUCH trouble with this unit. It runs water all the way down the wall. They replaced it once & it is doing the same thing again. D&B keeps telling us that We are the only ones that have ever had any trouble with this type unit???
When we built our house 8 years ago, the builder insisted on installing a TRANE unit with the suggestion that they were a very reputable company with a good product. In the 8 years weve had it, weve had 4 service calls on this unit, the last one was today and the tech informed me that the cheap copper tubing was rusted through and the condenser was damaged, total cost of repair will run me over $ 2600 to replace the air handler, the coil and filter drier. This is utterly inexcusable. Ive probably spent almost 1500 already on service calls and repairs on an 8 year old unit, pathetic.
Just purchased new Trane XR Model # 4TTR4042L1000AA with Manufacture date of 5/2015. After installer put in unit they tried to turn it on. It was DOA. They had to get another a/c tech to find the switch was faulty and get another switch. The tech said the unit wasnt working when it left the manufacturer. After fixing the switch the unit would not cool properly. Trane said that an additive had to be put into the compressor which after that was done unit would still not cool. Installer came back and found a faulty valve in the condenser unit. Installer had to provide photos of the bad valve before Trane would send new valve. It took a week for Trane to send the valve which was the wrong part. Installer had to contact Trane again to get the correct valve. The new valve is now faulty. Installer has been out 4 times now, says I have to contact Trane and get them to resolve the matter. Installer said Trane has been aware of the faulty parts for 2 years. Buyer Beware. Dont purchase a Trane. I paid $5,992 for the unit and feel I was robbed.
I had a Trane Heat Pump installed January 2014. Initially it was quiet and shut off the same... quietly. Because the compressor is close to my living room wall and the handler is up in the bedroom attic, this issue is quite important to me. The air-handler revs up and pulsates before the unit kicks on and then since it is a two-stage unit, it does the same when it shuts off. Its very annoying when I am trying to sleep at night. The outside unit which is located on the ground outside the living room runs quietly enough until it shuts off. It shuts off very hard and very abruptly causing the metal unit to sound like someone just hit it real hard with a rubber mallet. And then it continues to vibrate probably due to the fact that the metal that is used is so thin it cannot absorb it, I am guessing. Ive heard it go off half way down the block when I am out front. Its kind of startling. I had a routine maintenance check this week and mentioned this to the repair man. He went out and drilled something and it seemed okay but for only two days. Now it is the same as it was before. As far as the air handler, he said that that was its way of talking to the outdoor unit and it was normal. Thats just the way they work he said. All in all, I wish I would not have bought this system. I also will, in the future, deal with a company that takes my concerns seriously and fixes the problem... right. I am stuck with this unit for a while now so I guess I will have to make the best of it... somehow. In the meantime, I plan on calling Trane tomorrow (good luck, huh, from what Ive been reading) to see what might be up. I also will be calling the service company to tell them their fix didnt fix the problem. On the positive side, this system does cool well and my power bills are lower which is a great thing since I live in the desert. However, it is definitely coming at a price... my rest and peace of mind and the peace of my neighbors. Their patio is on the side of where my a/c unit is located.
I purchased a Trane Total Home Comfort System (XV95 gas furnace and XL15i air conditioner 4 ton capacity) in June 2009. The cost was $8,500.00. I thought Trane was a good unit. I had a Lennox builders grade and it was 15 years old and thought I better replace it since it was going to cost me $400.00 to repair because ants got into a part. Well, 4 seasons later the air is not working and the repairman told me there is a leak in the A Coil. I told the repairman I always heard if something goes wrong with the A Coil you need to replace the unit. He said he usually recommends this and it would be over $4000 but since the unit is not even 5 years old he said to just replace the A Coil. The part is under warranty but the labor would be $1200. Good grief!!! This must be a very difficult repair since it costs $1200 to fix. I thought I was buying a good product but now I know not to recommend Trane to anyone. I guess I better hope the furnace works this winter.
I installed a Trane residential HVAC system in my home in 2012 and strongly encourage anyone looking to replace their home HVAC system to look anywhere else but at Trane. The system has broken down a number of times and recently the igniter switch has burned out three time in the past month. The installer cannot find the reason and now I am told that I have to replace a board with a cost in excess of $1,000. This is after replacing the igniter switch twice at a cost or $200 per switch. I called Trane and all they could tell me was that I am out of the warranty period. Clearly Trane does not stand behind their products. Pick another manufacturer and avoid Trane.
I bought a Trane XL 16i about six and a half years ago. Now it has a hole in the coil. The HVAC company comes out each year for preventive service. Im beginning to think thats a waste of money. Anyway, itll cost $1,000 to replace the coil and thats with the warranty on the parts. I kept hearing that Trane is supposed to be one of the best. Well, I beg to differ. Will not be buying another Trane.
I had an old Goodman air conditioner that came with the house. I had it for 17 years and was still working. I upgraded to a Trane or at least I thought is as I was told that it was a good size for my home. The Trane broke 3 times in 3 weeks due to connection of the drain and I notice that this air doesn’t keep my room cold. I have to leave my door open and even like that it gets hot at certain times. My old one used to freeze me. I don’t recommend Trane. My nephew is looking for a new air and I mentioned to him what I have gone through and Trane is out for his home. I don’t recommend Trane. I have never experienced more issues with HVAC units in my life than with Trane. We purchased #2 4 ton H/P Condensers and V/S air handlers and 1 #2 ton condenser and a 2 ton air handler, all with media cabinets, retrofit to “existing electrical, freon lines and replaced as much ductwork as possible”. Paid over $37k in 7/2016. Since then, we have had mold from moisture leaks, condensers just “stop running”, now a “4 ton air handler” has an evaporator coil refrigerant leak!!! What??? I was under the impression that Trane is known for aluminum coils and they last for YEARS!!! Why is this costing me $1500??? I just paid over $800 less than 3 months ago for ductwork and Armour Flex due to leaks. Is this a faulty install job or a thin coil that Trane needs to cover the labor costs and refrigerant? Ridiculous.
You can stop a Trane! I had two brand new Trane units installed into my home. Less than two years ago. One of them can’t be fixed. My HVAC guy came out about five times. He’s done everything from change valves to Freon to pulling vacuums etc. Trane won’t stand behind their products, their consumer relations department is useless. Three different people gave me three different responses on how they would or wouldn’t help me. Today a supervisor told me that all of the three people I spoke to are wrong and they can’t help me and won’t. My unit is new and it is installed properly. It doesn’t work! Garbage! Run!!!
After spending over $16000 for two Trane A/C XL 20i units from Protocool Air Conditioning, 18 months later they said they made a mistake and billed me another $1000. In the first year, one unit stopped cooling and they could not find small leak. Even though it was under warranty, they just refilled it at different times, and I have had the problem every 4 months. I called a different dealer, and he found the leak and has to replace the COIL for another $800 for labor, which is no longer under warranty. Also, in this same period of time, the entire duct system filled up with water from condensation and cost me another $1800 to repair and replace. I have since learned this is a common problem with these units. Trane offers no service help at all. They are impossible with which to get in touch. They only send you to another dealer, which is hit or miss whether they know what they are doing.I suggest you do not waste your money on these expensive units when a Ruud or Rheem unit for a quarter of the price will operate fine with less maintenance. My old Ruud lasted over 15 years with very little maintenance. I also suggest you do not deal with Protocool Air Conditioning in South Florida. I still feel they overcharged me and then gave bad repair service. If anyone would like to talk to me personally or see my Trane A/C units, I will be glad to talk to you before you waste your money.
Purchased an American Standard (owned by Trane) HVAC in spring 2017. In spring 2018, the AC was not cold. Technician diagnosed the problem: leaking indoor coil. He replaced and recharged it, then told me that the $545 for labor/refrigerant was NOT covered under warranty - only parts are. When he sensed my outrage, he explained he was on my side and told me to call Trane Customer Service. I did - case #**. They explained the warranty to me (as if I needed that), and I made it clear that it IS A JOKE. How can a company stand by their product when they are asking consumers to incur cost for THEIR MISTAKES! When the supervisor realized I was not going to stop complaining (no yelling, no cursing), she asked if there was anything else she could help me with, to which I answered you have not helped me at all, and then she hung up on me as I began my next sentence... DO NOT BUY TRANE/AMERICAN STANDARD!!!
The seller of our house put in a brand new Trane TAM7 with an XL18i just to sell the house. Less than a year into the house the unit developed a leak at the evaporator coil. Took several days in the middle of summer to get it fixed (labor/410a not included). Then within a couple months the time delay fuse blew twice in a row - the tech eventually replaced it with a similar rated automotive fuse. Now this summer the condenser coil went out and after getting that fixed the blower ECM has died. Over and over, the system keeps breaking in multiple places... Absolute piece of crap. A unit this expensive should last care free for years - not break down 4 times in the first 5 years.
