Carrier Air Conditioner Warranty

Carrier air conditioners come with a limited warranty that covers the replacement of the unit if it fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. The length of the warranty varies depending on the specific model and type of air conditioner.

Typically, Carrier offers a 10-year limited warranty on the compressor and a 5-year limited warranty on covered components for most of its models. Some models may have different warranty periods.

It's also important to note that the warranty may be void if the air conditioner is not installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with the instructions provided by Carrier. Also, if a part is replaced under warranty, the remaining warranty period will not be extended.

It is recommended to keep the original purchase receipt and a copy of the warranty registration card for future reference. If you have any questions about the warranty on your Carrier air conditioner, you can contact the company's customer service department for more information.

Two-year-old system does not remove humidity from our home despite four service calls and a compressor replacement. The condensing unit never drains water and the Carrier dealer who installed the unit says all is okay/normal. As a result the humidity level in the house is always high, sometimes more than it is inside. Only two adults live in the home and the bathrooms/laundry room are well vented/exhausted. Does not appear from what I read that Carrier cares. Can the problem be linked to the refrigerant no longer being Freon? I have placed a portable dehumidifer upstairs which helps some and removes several quarts of water daily. We live in high humidity Indiana. Suggestions?

Carrier Comfort Series unit - Puron. We are extremely dissatisfied customers. $4,500 was spent on a brand new, energy efficient air conditioner. We were told from the sales man that this was the top of the line product and will save time and money. We had this new unit installed on Aug. 11, 2014 and when we went downstairs to check it on Sept. 6, 2014 because it wasnt dropping the temperature in the home sufficiently, we saw that there was water all surrounding the unit. In +30 degree weather we called the company to say we wanted it fixed and they couldnt send out a worker for a few days. When a worker came out he worked for 2 hours that night and 4 hours the next day, he spent this time cleaning up the mess that was left by the installers. He told us when he had done all that he was able to that the unit was defective and the company was aware of 20 other units that were defective this summer of the same model. Apparently the evaporator coil was faulty on it. Waiting for the sales man to call back. So far no call. Not happy.

I built a new house in NC in 2006. I had two Carrier units installed. Every year, there has been a problem with one or the other. Either circuit boards, leaking coils and now both units cut on and off in the heat mode every minute or so. Labor has not been covered on any issues. I will never buy another Carrier product and will warn every person I know that intends on purchasing a new HVAC system.

Purchased a new Carrier HVAC for my home in 2007. It was properly installed by licensed technicians. Ive had 9 (nine) major service calls requiring replacement of major components in less than 7 years. Thankfully I was covered for many of the services by a Sears master service agreement. That said, Ive still had to come out of pocket for several service calls for things not covered by the plan (i.e. Puron refills... 11 lbs 2 days ago ($450)). Similar scenario last year... slightly less. Thats just the AC. However, the furnace has made up more than half of those 9 service calls during the period. Ive spoken to an attorney who has advised a class action lawsuit. I would certainly be interested in joining such a suit. I have all documented service records to prove the faulty lemon that they manufacture.

I have had a Carrier Infinity system for 10 years. Within 3 years the compressor went out. A few years later we had a freeze and the heat pump turned on the outside unit breaking the fan. Carrier refused to cover. A year ago the compressor went out again. Carrier was willing to cover the compressor under a 10 year warranty, but not labor. My contract stated parts and labor. They later, after much negotiation, agreed to replace the condenser (including compressor) for $2500 and would extend a new warranty for 10 years parts and labor. Now the unit dies and its a circuit board. After replacing the unit would not come on again. It took 7 hours on the phone between the tech and Carrier to get it running again. Carrier support was reading a manual to help the tech figure out the problem. Their service even to a technician is a joke. I will never own another Carrier.

I moved in 2012, had ac inspected, prior to move. Obviously they pencil whipped the results as its been leaking Freon for 3 years. Now Im getting a new split unit. Ive had a few HVAC contractors check the leak source, no findings. Isnt there a 10 year WA on these units? Then I would be covered. Please send me $3,000.00 to cover my expenses for a new unit before your company moves to Mexico. Thank you.

Purchased new Carrier Infinity System for my home in July 2010. The system was great until heating season. When we began using the heat, we started noticing a bad odor. I contacted the dealer who installed the system and they said it was just that the system was new. A few months later, with no change in the odor, I contacted them again and they came out and told me I must have a dead animal in the duct work. Not! The odor was not constant like it would be if it were a dead animal. Then cooling season rolled around and no problems. The system worked great. Now heating season again and again, the odor was back. Called dealer again and they came out and said they couldnt smell it. Gave it a couple weeks and called dealer again (when it was very cold outside). Finally, the technician admitted noticing the smell, but had no idea what it was. He contacted the regional Carrier representative and was told that it was Dirty Sock Syndrome. He recommended cleaning coils with Listerine and installing a UV light.Dealer wanted to charge nearly $700 to install a light to get rid of an odor that I shouldnt have in the first place. It didnt exist with my old unit. From what I have read on the Internet, the UV light will likely not solve the problem anyway.I contacted Carrier and am getting the run-around that it was my environment that was causing the problem. Nothing had changed in my environment. Same environment with old system = no foul odor. Same environment with new system = foul odor. Conclusion was that there was something with the new equipment that was not getting along with the same environment thus the only thing that had changed was the equipment.Carrier, to this point, has refused to help. This was a known issue that these manufacturers were aware of and have been aware of, but refused to warn consumers about or correct the problem. In my mind, we need a Class Action suit filed in defense of the consumers in this country that are being taken for a ride by the HVAC manufacturers.

We purchased a large new home 5 years ago with 4 top of the line Carrier Infinity systems installed by a very large AC company with a very good reputation. We were never informed that you must register Carrier products within 90 days to receive the advertised 10 year warranty. I called about a year after install and thought it would be an easy adjustment for them to give us the full warranty but I was told by one agent and then her supervisor that they each always register their own personal products within the required time and I should learn to do the same. I wasnt amused by their advise. They then only were willing to give the minimum 5 year parts only warranty and replaced multiple air handler blower motors, control boards, temp sensors, controls, condenser unit fan motors and more parts without paying any labor. Fortunately due to having 4 units, when one downstairs unit goes out the cool air from upstairs keeps it very comfortable in our main area of the house, and if you didnt check the thermostat you would never know one was out. Our main area unit has been out for the last 6 months. On three separate service trips to repair the unit, it would go back out between a few hours to the next day. I was unsure when our 5 year warranty was over and as it turns out we had a tech back 4 days after the expiration, and on this trip another condenser fan motor was bad. Carrier Infinity units use a very high dollar motor, the book installed price without warranty is about $1400. I called Carrier and asked about a goodwill extension on that motor but was informed that as it may have been out while under warranty, it is now a few days past the expiration so it is not covered. These failures were not due to poor installation as there are 4 units all with different problems and were installed by a company that Carrier actually recommends as a top installer and they were as well as other companies were back to try to do many repairs. This seems to be a common Carrier experience. I read comments from Carrier dealers defending the product trying to deflect criticism on other installers but thats not realistic. I hope my experience helps others decide on a purchase and remember that even if they gave a 10 year warranty, you still pay for the labor to repair unreliable equipment.

Three top of the line Carrier units installed in the fall of 2006 has 100% rust and mold in all the copper evaporator coils inside the 3 air handlers. It has undergone consistent maintenance and service in the spring and fall every year. I contacted Carrier with the problem and they refused any assistance because the 5 year warranty has expired on the component, even though the local Carrier dealer who installed and serviced the units confirmed it is a manufacturing problem. The 3 unit models are: FV4BNF002, serial # 1606A82006; FV4BNF005, serial # 1106A87390; and FV4BNF005, serial # 4805A85599.If anyone reading this review is planning on installing a Carrier unit, please think twice and also read the 80+ other similar complaints. Also, please pass the word around so that others will not have to go through similar experience. The builder convinced us to install these Carrier units when we were considering another leading HVAC brand known for its excellent customer service and product reliability.

I installed the condenser and A-coil myself since I am licensed to do this and the unit works great. I wish I would of done it right after purchasing the house instead of waiting 4 months. The summer was extremely hot and in a 65-year-old house with leaky windows and doors, my electric bill was never over $275. I was actually expecting higher. Since then I have had a new furnace put in and love it, keeps the downstairs and upstairs plenty warm without breaking the wallet on the gas bill. 4 ton 15seer condenser, 5 ton A-coil with TXV, adn 125,000 btu 95% furnace.

We installed a Carrier Infinity 4-ton heat pump model 25HNA648A30020 in a new custom built home in 2007, opting for the top of the line, high efficiency unit, thinking that we would recoup our upgrade expenses in energy savings. Wrong! So far, we have had to replace a compressor, a coil, and a circuit board. All these parts were covered under Carrier warranty, but not the labor. All told, we have spent $3887 in labor and Freon (R410). We would have been better off going with the builder grade unit. Our HVAC system undergoes routine maintenance twice a year, so this is not due to a lack of proper routine service. We have done everything the HVAC company and Carrier recommended. At one point last year, two Carrier field service reps came to my house to evaluate our duct system, at the request of the owner of our HVAC company. The Carrier field service reps agreed to the recommended duct redesign. I was willing to do anything to correct the problems and make the frequent equipment failures stop. I saved all service records and have over 30 pages of them now. The same unit went out 2 days ago for the second time in the middle summer in hot, humid South Carolina. HVAC company has not been able to run a diagnostic yet because the compressor was too hot. To add insult to injury, we were told the warranty on the Bristol compressor replaced in April of this year would not even last for the balance of warranty on the HVAC unit. That signaled to me that Carrier expects it will fail again within the balance of the heat pump warranty and they dont want to pay for it.Given numerous similar complaints and universal lack of responsiveness on the part of Carrier customer service, it would seem that a class action suit might be in order. Too bad, Carrier prefers to let it get to that stage rather than faithfully standing behind their products. Doing the right thing might be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as it will be when attorneys get involved.

The technician said that these coils are defected and Carrier has redesigned them. I purchased Carrier 2 ton and 3.5 ton Heat pump/AC units in Feb 2018. The 3.5 ton unit failed and had to be replaced in July 2019 (15 months). As of Oct. 4, 2019 this unit now needs additional new parts. The 2 ton unit also failed in Sept. 2019 and needs major parts replaced. My HVAC contractor is working with me and told me to contact Carrier customer service. Carrier customer service has informed me that their only responsibility is the warranty for parts. The $1000`s spent for labor is my problem. Bottom line is Carrier feels that if their unit lasts 1 year they have met their obligation. I know that everyone buys heating and AC units with the expectation that it will last more than 1 year. Carrier does NOT have that same expectation -- they hope it lasts a least a year so they are off the hook. Do Not buy Carrier products - unless you want to replace them quickly.

I bought a Carrier Infinity 3 ton AC unit five or six years ago. In that time, I have had literally thousands of system malfunction announcements on my thermostat. I have had the air-conditioner repair tech at my house at least 25 times. I replaced fan motors and starter capacitors twice and other parts. Recently it wont cool to the desired temperature. Now its come to my attention the condenser coil is turning to dust. I paid for what I believed to be the best air-conditioner on the market. And it has just been one constant disappointment. The AC tech came out and told me that I need to replace the coil and that it would cost $2500 but he recommended that I replace the entire unit. The cost of a new one is roughly the same as that. So its basically totaled. Carrier will do nothing for me. I expected so much more. I felt it reasonable to assume that this would last many years.

I replaced 4 or 5 of my a/c units in my home in Playa Del Carmen with Carrier because I thought I was getting a superior product. I was totally wrong. These units have lasted less time than my cheaper Chinese units at half the cost. One unit has had a control board failure twice in one year and the unit is less than a year and a half old! And of course the Carrier dealer in Cancun warranties nothing. So, needless to say, I am never buying Carrier again.

I had my Carrier Heat Pump installed when we added on to our home back in 2009. I was told by my HVAC installer that the unit I was buying was energy efficient and came with a 10 year warranty. Today I was told by the installer that my blower motor was out and that it was under warranty. Later I was told that the 10 year warranty I was sold was not valid because I did not register it online within 90 days of the installation. We were never told by the installer that we needed to do this to have the warranty. In fact the page of information that was torn from the book and had the serial numbers on it does not even have any statement regarding the need to register the product within 90 days in order to obtain the 10 year warranty. Not even hidden in the fine print. Carrier instead requires the installer to make sure that the buyer knows that they need to register online. Both my wife and I work and we are not even sure if either of us were home when this work was completed as we had contractors working at the house. I took this all the way up to a Senior Person at Carrier. I was told by them nothing they can do, take it up with the installer. They will not allow you to go back and register your product. If this company is as good as the other installers that have posted say, then I would think that Carrier itself would allow the consumer to register the product retroactively, especially when the homeowner was not aware of the requirement. Im not even saying they should pay for the immediate service, my installer will take care of that because that falls on him, but to screw the homeowner out of the rest of the warranty shows a definite lack of support for their products. What happens now if my installer goes out of business or sells his business to someone else? I agree with the others on this blog who have wrote no Carrier ever again. I have an older Trane unit in the upstairs that has not given me one problem. I guarantee when that needs to be replaced, it wont be with a Carrier!

We purchased a new Carrier Infinity 18 SEER HE system in April 2018 ($12,30
We purchased a new Carrier Infinity 18 SEER HE system in April 2018 ($12,300). The system was for the downstairs of a 3200 square foot home and installed in a crawlspace. At the time of installation, there had never been any moisture issues in the crawlspace for the 20 year life of the home, not with the original owners, not with two home inspections, and not with our experience with the previous HVAC system that had been in place for fifteen years, in fact the crawlspace had always been very dry. Once we installed the Carrier Infinity system, we began to notice problems with keeping the humidity levels in our home at a reasonable level, we were seeing 65-76 percent readings on a regular basis. We reached out to the Carrier dealer and they told us we needed to replace all of the ductwork underneath the house. We moved forward and did as was suggested ($4600) in August of 2019. A few weeks after the ductwork install, we switched to heat pump and thought the problem was resolved as humidity levels in the winter stayed around 45% inside the home during the winter when the heat pump was being used and there was no use of the AC. Fast forward to summer 2020. We started using the AC again in April and by July 2020 the beautiful hardwoods in our home began to buckle and we began to see incredible amounts of moisture building in our walls. Our light switches actually began to buckle from the moisture, and if you took one off the wall, the moisture was enough to drip onto the floor. We have pictures of all of this. Moisture readings were back to 68 to 78 percent and 83% in the crawlspace. Through word of mouth and social media, we found several other families who were experiencing the exact same issue in our county alone, their homes, walls, and floors also being slowly destroyed by intense moisture after installation of the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system. We were in contact with the Carrier dealer throughout. Unfortunately, the dealer had a massive fire that destroyed all of their records and they had to rebuild, so there are no records of our original install other than the paperwork we have. After their rebuild that delayed our interaction, the dealer came again to our home and rewired our system to use only two drive phases instead of the designed five. This did not bring the moisture levels down. We were told several times there was a moisture problem in our crawlspace and that was causing our issues. We worked with our homeowners insurance agent and he sent a home inspection/moisture specialist who determined there was no runoff or water issue in our crawlspace and suggested the problem may be the installation of the super efficient Carrier system in 2018. The dealer returned again in September 2020 and replaced the ductwork again, suggesting that the duct boots were not installed correctly in the first ductwork replacement in 2019.This also did not address the intense humidity issue, with readings in our crawlspace reaching 83% moisture in certain areas. Inside the home we could not maintain anything under 68% humidity. The dealer then brought a large dehumidifier in late October 2020 that has been running all winter. With the AC off, the basement has dried out with use of the heat pump and zero use of the AC all winter. We will be installing the optional integrated Carrier dehumidifier next and will see if that addresses the issue when we switch back to AC, somewhere in early April. After hearing from all the other families that have experienced the exact same intense humidity and moisture damage in their homes after installing the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system, we are not confident that we will see any difference. We are out almost $18K, we have a practically new HVAC system that is slowly destroying our home, we will need to replace all of our floors and subfloors, and we are praying that our wiring has not corroded. Carrier was called to one of the other families homes and told them what we were told, that they had a moisture problem and that it was not the system.Carrier KNOWS this is an issue, the dealers KNOW this is an issue, but Carrier refuses to address it. We are writing this review to bring awareness. Consumer BEWARE. Carrier NEEDS to address this and figure out whats causing this 18 seer 5 phase system to destroy certain homes. We hope this honest review keeps others aware of what can happen with a Carrier Infinity 18 seer system and keeps others from living the nightmare we have since the installation of this system.

In 2011 we purchased a dual fuel heat/air. By 2014 it was leaking. Replaced the evaporator, at the cost of $700 not including the Freon we had added to the system. Then by 2016 it was down. Freon again. This time condenser leaking. $200 for the Freon, another $84 to find the leak, and now 1$278 to replace the coil. We asked carrier to replace the whole heat pump as we must have a lemon and they sent info to product review, we thought they were considering helping with at least the labor costs if not a whole new unit. I called back after over 2 weeks of not hearing, and they said they would only replace the coil, because our unit is over 10 yrs old! HUH? Its been less than 5 yrs, and they said we didnt maintain it in over 10 yrs! HUH, hello carrier? 2016 from 2011 purchase date is 5 yrs. Yes, the unit is maintained but not by your service contract. No wonder All Temp Co. Heating and Air Conditioning of Harrisburg, NC sells these. They get a lot of work out of these inferior products, over and over again. Run as fast as you can and buy a Trane. Wish we had. Maybe carrier might move back from Mexico. I guess it doesnt matter where its made if they wont stand behind their product. I think after 2 major leaks we deserved more than their attitude and bad record-keeping.

We purchased our air conditioner in 2007 and have had problems 4 out of 5 seasons. Living in Michigan, we basically have only run our air conditioner for a little over a year now. The 1st year, a bad sensor had to be replaced; 2nd year ran okay; 3rd year, it ran constantly and hardly cooled down our home. At the beginning of the 4th year, it ran out of freon and was recharged, and last year it ran out of freon again. The installer found a pinhole in the coil and it had to be replaced. Our installer/servicer was very helpful and worked with us to help keep labor costs down but, Carrier should stand behind their product and cover all labor for warranty parts. I shouldnt have to pay labor charges on factory defective parts. Its very frustrating to have purchased a top-of-the-line unit, only to feel like we ended up with a lemon and have little recourse but to accept Carriers less than satisfactory limited warranty. I get the feeling Carrier couldnt care less about the little guy, once a sale is made. At least the car manufacturers cover labor and parts for warranty work. Type Of Product : Central Air Conditioner, Serial Number : **, Model Number : 24APA324A0030010, Installed Date : 05/17/2007.Update 5/3/12: Surprise, surprise, here it is the beginning of the warm weather season and we turned on the AC today and it isnt working. We will have to wait until I can get a servicer out to find out whats wrong now.

I worked in industrial HVAC for over 30 years. We purchased a home that had a 2012 Carrier air handler model # FX4DNF037 and Bryant Condenser. I replaced the condenser motor and cap on a unit that was placed into service 6/29/2012 on July 22/2017. After a storm blew through Sunday evening the evaporator fan blew up on start up. I called Carrier and it only has a 5 yr warranty, I was told sorry have a nice day. This is BS to have a unit 5 yrs old lose 2 motors. Not to mention the cost of the Xm evaporator motor is several hundred dollars. These new motors does not have cost savings the consumer is told they do. If a motor replacement is $400 @ 5yrs then you will never see a return on investment, energy savings. Total junk. I suggest people install a regular 1/2 hp motor with a fan relay at half the installation cost. Ive worked on hundreds of Carrier, Trane & York units from 1/2ton window units up to several thousand ton chillers. Ive even been to the Carrier training facility is Syracuse NY.As a Retired licensed stationary engr. we started noticing the lack of repairability in the 90s on all refrigeration and motor control units. Once the energy craze took off cooling units (all motors/controls etc) became electronic nightmares. The consumer is being fleeced as some contractors are charging 1000$ to replace a motor and capacitor, board whatever part they think might be bad because these units cant be properly diagnosed once a internal part goes bad. 5 yrs in and Im looking at just under a 1000$ in repairs for a 4000$ unit. All energy money savings is lost on repairs. I use to work on units that were 20-30 years old and were still operating with minimal repairs.

NO recourse for me. Buying Carrier was a colossal blunder! I have no one to blame but myself. As it turns out American Standard was the best choice. Trane was second. That was based on exhaustive research, after the purchase. I found what seemed to be endless complaints against Carrier. How do you test drive an air conditioner? Caveat emptor!

In mid-2007, I had my 13-year old HVAC system replaced with a Carrier Infinity system with 5 ton 14.0 SEER unit (model #24ANA760A003) to give a peace of mind regarding reliability. Two years ago, the system failed and the temp in my house got to over 100 degrees here in AZ. The installation company told me the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced at a cost of over $800. This with the unit still under warranty! Now almost exactly two years later, the compressor again went out and needs to be replaced. The owner of the installation company told me that Carrier acknowledges that this is a faulty unit (as evidenced by the multiple other complaints here), but refuses to replace it with anything other than another unit of the very same defective model. And of course, I have to pay all the labor charges again. Carrier seems truly unconcerned regarding customer service and only wants to take your money and run. Perhaps, as a previous writer suggested, a class action lawsuit is in order.

New 2 stage system - Ive had this air conditioner for 8 years and had 3 compressors put in. This last one I had installed on the Wed. after Memorial Day. It still has not cooled the house since it was installed and never turns off. In the day time, it will get to 80 degrees. At night, around 3:00 am, it will cool off to 70 degrees. Ive called my installer and told him about it and he says he has to call the Carrier guru to find out what to do. It is now June 20th and every day about 3:00 to 4:00 pm, it will be 77 to 80 degrees in my house. I want it fixed NOW!!!! Ive never had a problem cooling the house before the installer says I should build a shade house over the outside unit. He put it there. Even the other compressors were able to cool my house, 1600 sq. ft, with a 4-ton unit.

My Carrier Infinity Air Conditioner unit cost roughly $9,500 to install and was put in four years ago. My A/C stopped working because the condensing coil was leaking from the riser. This caused it to run under charged and blew the compressor. Now I need a new compressor, a new coil, a new capacitor, a new wire harness for the compressor and a new filter dryer - essentially building a new A/C unit. Carrier will cover the parts but the labor will cost $1,455 and they will not cover that cost. IF the tech agrees its a quality control issue they will see what they can do. Obviously by the number of complaints about Carriers coils, this IS a quality issue.

Purchased a home Aug 2014 that was built in 2003. We have a total of 3 HVAC units. 1 Carrier upstairs and downstairs, both manufactured 2011 and 1 Goodman original to the house. The Carrier unit upstairs has a leaking coil inside. Estimate $1500 to replace. 6 years for a coil to go bad is terrible. I have read that Canada has a countrywide class action against Carrier for this very reason. Why not in the U.S.?

I have 2 new Carrier system in a new built home and have had and continue to have several issues. I fully expected the builder and sub contractor to run for the hills but when I contacted Carrier, I did not expect them to just blow me off the way they did. I have been in the HVAC business for 30 years and never have had such poor customer support from a company. Carrier, unlike York and Trane, will apparently just sell their equipment to anyone. I thought Carrier to be one of the top 3 companies, but they sure changed that.

I am still doing warranty work on them and I stopped installing them two years ago. If you are having the types of problems Im reading about here with carrier you should change your contractor because I have no problems and have installed hundreds of these systems. If you are looking for a great system, buy carrier but make sure you also pay for a great contractor thats just as important.

We got a new HVAC system in 2009, 11 years ago. It was Carriers top of the line furnace and central air conditioner at the time. It was the Infinity System. Quite expensive to say the least. Well, fast forward 11 years (to 2020). The Carrier central air conditioners condenser apparently went out. The company who installed it (In 2009) came out to diagnose a grinding sound I heard coming from the unit. Guess what?! Yep, you guessed it! My entire central air conditioner would need replaced due to the condenser failing!I know a couple family members whove had their central air conditioners for over 30 years, and theyre still in working order. If this new efficient HVAC equipment cant hold up for at least 20 years, doesnt that outweigh any efficiency improvements you got out of them?! In my opinion, not only are you out of an expensive unit, but for environmental purposes- it would be better to have a less efficient system last 30 years than a more efficient system last 10! Why? Because the materials to make it end up in a landfill 3 times sooner than the old style air conditioners! If I had known this Carrier AC would have only lasted 11 years, I would have went with a less expensive brand! Whats the point paying nearly twice as much, potentially, only to have your unit completely fail 10-11 years later! PS: I recently went out and bought a new window AC. I couldnt afford to spring for a new central AC, nor had any desire after that experience!

I built a new home in 2007/2008. I researched and purchased what I was lead to believe was some of finest equipment in HVAC on the market. Boy was I mislead. It was much more pricey than the standard system I was originally quoted but since I was building the home myself for retirement, I wanted the best. The heat pump I purchased was a Bryant Evolution, two stage, variable speed, model # 286-ANA-048000-CBAA, serial # 2907E28649, a 4 ton/16 seer system. Sounds cool but what a piece of junk. The system was roughed in late October 2007 with final installation/operation in late August 2008 when I finished the home.First indication of a problem was a compressor failure the end of March 2009. I was told it was a fluke and the compressor was replaced under warranty. My HVAC system does not experience heavy use or extremes as far as heat and cold because I live in western Washington State where the climate is fairly moderate. In the winter, I burn a lot of wood and the summer we rarely use the A/C. That said, it should be fair to expect even a longer life from this higher end equipment. Not So! In January 2015, I experienced another compressor failure and this is where my true frustration begins. My dealer confirmed that it was in fact another compressor failure and said this had been a much greater problem than Carrier had wished to admit. It was apparently enough of a problem that Carrier was offering a pro-rated replacement program. So my options are: (1) replace the compressor again and take my chances, (2) buy a new replacement Carrier heat pump at a discounted price (approx: $2,000.00) and hope to get a better unit. I have absolutely no problem with the pro-rated idea since I did get some years of service from the original system. The problem is, even though I am technically paying for a new unit, Carrier does not even have enough faith in their own equipment to give me a new warranty. Even if I opt to buy the new replacement unit, they will only recognize the remainder of my original warranty. Is this ridiculous or what? If they were simply replacing my unit at no cost to me, because the original unit was crap, then I would have no beef at all with this ridiculous policy. But in essence, I am paying for the new unit both with more cash and the expectation that the original higher end system that I paid a premium price for would last far longer than it did. The last standard grade heat pump I had on my previous home lasted 18 years. So, whats wrong with this picture. When my dealer gave me these options and explained this warranty, I didnt believe it. So I called Carrier customer service. After talking with a representative and then a senior representative named Diane, I was told the dealer was correct and that was all Carrier was willing to do for me. I explained to Diane that this system had failed previously in 2009 but this made no difference. This was all Carrier was willing to offer even with their higher end systems. Very sad that even they dont have enough confidence in their equipment to give a person a new warranty on new equipment. Needless to say I will no longer be using or recommend Carrier equipment to anyone, EVER. This policy and the way they stand by their products and treat their customers is simply horrible. DONT BUY CARRIER !!!!! So now I will be paying another $5,000.00 to buy a Trane and my big investment just 7 years ago is gone. One last note about some of their higher end products. My neighbor and long-time friend built a home next to me a few months after I built mine. Never guess what my recommendation was to him on HVAC for his house. Yep you got it, same junk. While he did not experience a compressor failure early on like I did, he did experience other smaller issues. However, his system failed (compressor) in the spring of 2014. His system was approximately 1 year newer than mine so his pro-rated cost to replace in April 2014 was approx: $1,500.00 instead of the $2,000.00 I was asked to pay. Ok, so good for him. He got a new replacement system (for a 5-6 year old system) for $1,500.00, AND a NEW Warranty that started from the day his new system arrived. So I would say this was good business on Carriers part by essentially continuing his HVAC experience for a pro-rated amount and giving him a new warranty on a new product. Something must have happened between April 2014 and the end of the year (probably more failures), because as I said earlier, Carrier no longer has the faith in their equipment to give a new warranty on new products. In case I forgot to say this, DONT BUY CARRIER and tell all your family, friends, and co-workers.

I bought a Carrier Mini Split Air Conditioner Model:40MHHC12 in 2018. After 1 season of use, it stopped producing cold air. A major component had failed (condenser coil)! The installer (ARS in Florida) refused to help, saying the unit must be maintenanced twice a year to stay under warranty for labor (brand new!). Carrier declined to comment about their unit failing after 1 year, or consider replacing the unit. The parts were under warranty, but the labor would cost almost $1000.00. Carrier said they would send a representative out to the installer company to review the issue, but after a month of me trying to find out the status of the issue, they finally just told me that there was nothing they would do. I would not recommend this company for air conditioners. High priced products with lousy quality.

When I called Carrier for a replacement part, they indicated they do not ship parts under warranty and told me to go buy the replacement part locally. If they wont honor their warranty with a little plastic part that cost them fifty cents to make, I dont feel theyll be honoring it for large ticket items.

Im a homeowner and had two units installed in the two story house I completed in 2012. Its been 1 year and 3 months and Ive had 3 a/c outages. My upstairs unit (3-ton) has been out twice, most recently when the compressor blower motor stopped working. My latest problem is with the downstairs unit (2.5-ton) which needs a new evaporator unit. There is a leak in the copper coil which Im told is common. Most startling to me, however, was how corroded the entire evaporator unit appeared. I took a photo and posted here. The prevailing story I hear from the repair folks is that Carriers technology got way ahead of quality... in an effort to meet the rising efficiency requirements. The parts warranty is helpful, but the labor combined for all three repairs is now at $2000. Oh yeah, and I called Carrier (as a homeowner) to express my dissatisfaction. They towed the line on warranty terms and conditions and wouldnt transfer me to a Manager. Given my experience, I will never purchase Carrier equipment again.

We installed a new expensive Carrier heat pump/AC system in 2002. Over 14 years we had to replace the Bristol compressor 10 times. Our HVAC service company and Carrier said we were the only ones who had this problem and they did not know why. All lies as I now know. The compressor failed again this year (2016) and the HVAC service company we use said they cant replace the Bristol compressor this time due to a lawsuit between Carrier and Bristol, so we had to replace our whole system. We would never install Carrier again. Carrier charges huge but gives you junk. If we hadnt taken out a $900 10-year labor charge warranty when we bought the system, we would have been out thousands of dollars to replace 10 compressors. Dont ever buy Carrier! They are no longer using Bristol compressors, but the substitute compressor brand they are now using is reputed to be just as bad.

We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014.
We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014. It was installed by an authorized installer who has been installing Carrier systems for 45 years. The unit is supposed to be state of the art and cost over $10K. But in 2015, one year after it was put in place, the system broke down in the summer and a motor had to be replaced. Now in 2016, second year after the installation, the system broke down again and another motor has to be replaced. And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in todays world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days. When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasnt even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and thats all they can do. She basically said Why are you wasting my time by calling me. without using those words.Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldnt expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. I need to replace another old HVAC system soon and I never thought I would get anything other than Carrier. Now I will look into what other competing products are out there.

Hey Jerry in San Antonio! I have the same problem you speak of and Im also extremely angry! I tried to figure out a way to email you directly or respond directly, but I cant figure out how to respond directly so I hope you get this message.I live in nice and hot Phoenix, Arizona! On about May 30th, my air conditioner started showing signs of problems. To add to my problems, I had been pretty sick with a nasty virus that lasted for several months and the temperatures in Phoenix were extreme even for Phoenix. May 31st was 109, June 1st was 111 and June 2nd was 107. Thankfully I was able to get out of town for the weekend to not mess with these indoor temperatures. But even then it really didnt matter much because the soonest I could get a technician out to fix my unit, it wasnt until late in the week the following week. This technician told me that he was able to find a leak, but wouldnt know where. He put a leak detection in, topped my system off with refrigerant and then gave me a bill for $332.56. The A/C began to work again, but the leak was worse than we initially thought. About a week later, my A/C was back to where it was and this technician found a leak in the coil. Again, let me remind you all these problems were going on while I was also driving around town with doctor appointments and feeling sicker than I have have felt in my life and Im still not 100% better.I asked the tech how much it would be to fix the coil. I told him that in between visits, I was able to determine that my coil was under warranty but understood they didnt pay for labor. He gave me an estimate of around $2,600 and then brought it down to around $2,100, because I had a previous relationship with them for tune-ups and preventative maintenance. Even this price seemed really steep, so I told the guy I would shop around and he completely understood. Later that night, this tech called me back and told me that whether I went with him or not, the local supplier in Phoenix that provides carrier warranty parts disagreed about my warranty status. I told the tech that I spoke directly with Carrier and they told me my coil is still under warranty. He then said, Well they disagreed and I was like Ill just deal with that later. That night I sent a tweet out and found some really good A/C companies who gave me a rough quote. The one I ended up going with was an excellent company. He said that the cost of doing a warranty replacement on a coil all depends on the original installation so hed have to come out and look at my unit. So fast forward to week three of since this ordeal began and the guy comes out on a Wednesday afternoon to take a look at my coil. The tech told me that the repairs should be easy, but once again, he was still having issues with the local supplier wanting to give out the part because again, they disagreed with my unit being under warranty. I explained to him that it clearly states on Carriers website that the warranty is 5 years from installation or with new homes, its 5 days from the closing date of the original owner. Well you can imagine that many houses like mine in Phoenix were built than say for about a year or two. We moved in 10/08, which would mean that the warranty is good through 10/13. The parts dealer again disagreed with me and even my tech went the extra mile with me trying to get this figured out. By this time I was horrified. It had been weeks since the original problem, my symptoms were getting worse and it was 105 to 110+ every day and yet nothing resolved my A/C! In fact I was so sick, I asked my father-in-law from Missouri to fly out to Phoenix just to help me because I couldnt think straight and I needed rest.Later that night the tech called and explained to me he went all the way to the top to get my part approved. He said hed be coming out in the morning around 9:30. At 9:30 on the dot, my doorbell rang. He explained to me that he would take the coil out take it to the parts dealer because they need the old (which is understandable) and would be right back with my new one. At 10:30, he had the part out and told me hed be back. Several hours passed and by 3:30, I called the tech if there was any problem. He told me once again that the parts dealer was being stupid, but he finally got a part. But this part wasnt a dollar for dollar replacement. It was a different coil that would require him to rig it to fit.On this day, the temp was above average for Phoenix at 109 degrees. The poor tech worked from about 4:00PM till about 11:00PM at night trying to at least get me cool air. He was able to do it, but he still wasnt finished. He came back two days later on a Saturday and worked 4 more hours in the blazing attic and got it fixed. Needless to say, Ive never seen some individual work so hard for me. When I got the bill, I was shocked. It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected. Now at first many people would argue that I was ripped off, but in all actuality I wasnt. I mentally figured out the hours the guy worked and realized that he undercharged me. He actually undercharged me by quite a lot. I then asked the tech why the difference in estimate and he told me the main reason it took him so long was the fact that I didnt get a dollar for dollar replacement. They said my coil was discontinued and the larger part he had to rig in would have to due. If you remember, it took him barely an hour to get the part out, but nearly 10+ hours to put it in and rig it to make it work. Now I know this guy worked hard, but making something work seems to be a temporary fix. This part wasnt designed to be in the air conditioner, let alone I would have been better off probably just buying a brand new unit than doing a warranty replacement. Anyways, I know this is a long story, but Carrier was absolutely awful when it came to handling my replacement. They were of no help when I explained to them that their parts dealer was giving me hassle. I further explained to them that I live in one of the hottest cities in the world and I was very sick, hoping that would spark some sympathy to help this get resolved faster but yet again, that didnt work. Nearly $2,000 later, I finally got my replacement (under warranty coil) replaced! Thanks Carrier, your customer service sucks! It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected.

Carrier says nothing they can do, I have the contract with Iceman and have to use them. If I want to try to find another Carrier Dealer to honor my extended warranty I can try. No AC unit should need an evaporator coil every 2 years and continue to leak for 8 years straight. We built a new home with Schalmo Builders (Canal Fulton, OH) three years ago. We trusted their expertise in selecting a quality, reliable HVAC system for us. They chose a Carrier unit, and it’s been nothing but constant problems, breakdowns, costly service calls (with no resolution), run-around answers, fights & battles, hot summers with NO AIR, and winters with unbelievable heating bills due to our Carrier unit’s inability to properly switch from standard heat to very expensive “emergency heat.” Our condenser was replaced after less than one year. We’ve had more than a dozen service calls on the unit during the past three years. We are currently waiting for a replacement blower motor that has been on order for weeks now and is not due to arrive until mid October. We’ve been without air the entire summer (2019) due to our unit constantly blowing fuses. We’ve paid $600 in labor to replace all different kinds of Carrier parts that did not fix the issue. We have a parts warranty which is a joke because of expensive labor costs to fix a unit that is only three years old. Our builder will not admit that they gave us a terrible HVAC unit that we will most likely need to replace, saying their hands are tied. That’s reputable. BUYER BEWARE of complete junk Carrier units!

Bought our Carrier Infinity unit and had it installed in 2009. We were told it was the Cadillac of HVAC systems. Last year one of our thermostats failed which cost $500 to repair, just a few months outside of the warranty. Now, were in the middle of August in 100 degree heat and the entire unit failed completely. We need to replace a compressor, a relay, 2 capacitors and get refrigerant recovery. Total cost: $3,750. Meanwhile our house is sweltering. Despite my frustration, I politely called customer service for advice and the advanced service agent was rude. Theres nothing we can do, youre outside of warranty, sorry. Buyer beware. My advice - if youre buying an AC unit, look into warranty and try to get more than five years.

We replaced our old air conditioner in 2015 by a Carrier unit. The blower motor failed and was changed last year (2017). The motor was under warranty at a cost of $450.00. Again this year the blower motor failed and was again replaced at a cost of $420.00. I took the issue with Carrier and was offered no compensation. Stay away from this product.

I have had a Carrier air conditioner for over 35 years. I have added onto my house 25 years ago and increased my size by two good sized rooms. Still with the same size air conditioner. The only problem Ive had was replacing fan motor about 6 years ago. The old unit still runs and cools and am quite pleased with its reliability. I am now at a point to see how long it will last. Have read some bad reviews of modern carriers and wanting to see if other homeowners have had same great service with newer models and would recommend a carrier again. Thanks.

I had 25 year old air conditioner that needed the usual minor repairs every few years, nothing major. My A/C bill was high so I decided to buy a new cost efficient A/C, against several technicians advice. I checked around and was told to by homeowners that Carrier was the one to buy. Theyve had theirs for 20 years without problems. I bought this one less than 2 years ago and have had service technicians out three times and the blower motor changed last year. This weekend it stopped working again and the technician said I needed a new compressor. Major repair. $1,200 cost. Called Carrier to complain and all they told me was that parts are free, but labor is not. The parts may be free, but the shipping is not! This is ridiculous! Less than 2 years old and Carrier is not doing anything about it. Back to homeowners that told me to buy a Carrier, they all bought them when they were made in America. Everyone who is having issues, I wager, their A/C was made in Mexico. Coincidence? I think not!

So, we had a new home built and our contractor highly recommended a Carrier HVAC system, and we bit. Four years later, a coil is leaking. We pay to add extra coolant as well as dye to verify leak. Upon verification, we had to have the coil replaced. Okay, part fail, and the company replaced the part. But, we were charged for the labor to replace it! WTH? Its a defective part. Why should we bear the burden for replacement?!? I wrote to Carrier (Bryant) and got a terse response regarding their limited warranty. No, not good enough!! I wrote back and let them know my feelings as well as my plan to share my experience with as many other who would listen.I have read so many accounts of similar experiences with Carrier: they replace the part that failed but do not reimburse the labor (which is often more than the part!). This is NOT acceptable and we need to mobilize to make manufacturers like this more responsive to consumers. Continue to share your stories and write to Bryant. We also need to contact our elected officials to develop legislation that will better protect us. Good luck to all!

I had experience with 3 Carrier high end systems. The first one failed (declared total loss) within 8 years after installation. It was replaced in 2010 by an other Carrier unit, along with a second unit for the other half of the house. Both new systems installed in 2010 were high efficiency systems with infinity thermostats, at a total cost of $15,000.00. Both of these units failed in the summer of 2014 with major repair bills - even though they had a 10 year warranty. The entire evaporator coil had to be replaced on the first unit at a cost of about $1000 in July 2014. The condenser fan motor failed on the second unit just today (Aug 29, 2014). The tech from central heating said that the motor is covered by warranty, but he must still charge me $60 for the visit and $200 for the labor to replace the motor. It is simply unacceptable to pay such high prices for top-of-the-line systems and get such poor reliability. I will never purchase another product from Carrier.

My Carrier air conditioning unit is less than 12 years old. The compressor has failed and seized. I understand the industry average should be 15 to 20 years or more of life. I paid a premium for my Carrier unit when I bought it. I contacted Carrier and they said it was out of warranty and basically its my hard luck. Based on my experience if you want an air conditioner to last longer than 11 years 10 months, dont buy a Carrier unit. I live in Chicago. I wonder how long this unit would have lasted in Texas.

Carrier Comfort 80 gas furnace blower motor & cage failure- The blower motor and blower squirrel cage have both recently failed on this 9-year-old unit. Preventive maintenance twice yearly has been consistently scheduled. Warranty was for 5 years for all parts except heat exchanger (10 years). Cost to replace both of these items was $960 less my 15% discount for being a preferred customer. VERY HIGH PRICES! The tech volunteered that Carriers prices on replacement parts is high. I found the same parts on other HVAC supplier websites for much less - I was initially not comfortable with handling the parts change out, but now seeing how it was done, could probably have done it myself & saved a bunch of $. I contacted Carrier, but got no response from them. Had asked for some $ warranty assistance since these parts failed prior to 10 years of service - my tech said that after 2010, Carrier increased their warranty to 10 years on other parts. This is the first time I have had any blower failures on a furnace earlier than 20 years of service. Apparently they just dont make em like they used to and Carrier doesnt really care about their residential consumer customers either. I wont be replacing any of this equipment (when the time comes) with Carrier!

Puron Model 24APA530A300 Coil bad - A/C stopped cooling on hottest day of year, and my a/c guy said it must be a bad coil. The unit was put in 6 years ago, and I figured Carrier would replace it. Just found out it has only a 5-year warranty, but starting in 2010 they made it a 10-year warranty. The first 2 visits were covered by the home builder; However, the last visit I had to absorb. I do have a ten-year warranty on the units... I was told, like many others in this forum, that this is a known defect with Carrier products. I called Carrier and again, as many others have relayed, they did not care. They have a 5 year warranty. I now have the plated 10 year coil. I agree with all the other posts that Carrier is a rip-off and they have no concern for consumers and do not stand behind their products. I would never buy or recommend a Carrier to anyone. My a/c repairman told me Amana has a lifetime warranty and there are better brands that have better warranties.

I bought a Carrier heating and cooling system back in 2010. Had a problem with the condenser freezing up when the weather got cold. Happened several times but was rectified. This year the heat went out. Had the same symptom. The company I bought the Carrier from was no longer in business so called another one that was a Carrier certified. They condemned the unit. Heat exchanger was burnt. These typically should last for 15 years. Only lasted eight and a half years. Getting Carrier will replace the part but the problem is the installation is very expensive. Purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace and heat pump on 6/21/13. The compressor went bad in 10 days on July 3, 2013. Carrier replaced the unit. Less than 3 weeks later, the unit shut down. There was a loose wire on the outside unit. Twice the techs have been out to try to fix the water in the garage during the summer. Wrapped the outtake lines and flushed the line. They say it is just condensation. A few days ago, I discovered I have a steady leak under my house. They will have to contact Carrier because they are not sure of what the problem is but they think it is a bad gasket. Our service technician told me that Carrier knew that it was faulty but would only replace the part when it failed. Now we have to have the AC coils replaced because they are leaking coolant. According to the service technician the copper tubing cannot keep up with the pressure so it needs to be replaced with aluminum. In 2009, I replaced two old 7 SEER and 9 SEER units with brand new high-efficiency Carrier units. Luckily, I had a friend who sold me and installed two new units for $11K. One local HVAC company asked me $22K and another asked me $15K for the same models. Thank God I didnt have $22K tied up in the mess that I bought. The downstairs unit is saving us right now. I have a box fan propped up blowing cool air upstairs, where my INFINITY SPLIT UNIT has become a piece of crap apparently. The coil was rusty and leaking freon; freezing up. I have huge water spots on my ceiling where water has overflown the drip pan, which suggest to me the float switch isnt any good either. The upstairs thermostat earlier this week registered 86 degrees. The unit was blowing but not cooling. On Saturday morning, my friend sent his brother-in-law to replace the coil in the attic. The brother-in-law told me that the air coming out of the vents should be upper 40s and at least low 50s. With a meat thermometer, he and I checked the temp for approx 30 minutes and it never dropped below 60 degrees. He said that it would cool on down after it ran for a while. It never has and after it cools for a while the air coming from vents is between 70 and 75 degrees. Today, one day after replacing the coil and with thermostat set at 70 degrees, the temp at mid-day was 79 degrees. I keep asking myself if its worth $450 to lower the temp by 7 degrees. How would you feel? Last night and all day today, I have tried probably 25 times to call and text my friend that installed the unit and sent his brother-in-law to do the dirty work and collect money. He has not replied. I dont want to criticize my downstairs unit because, like I said, it is saving us right now. However, we have had to have service calls for it two or three time during winters because it wasnt heating. Ideally, with these Carrier units, we need cold air to rise and warm air to fall and wed be fine. Doesnt work that way, huh? If you are reading this and you are about to buy a new unit for your home, please take my advice and the advice of many others below and steer clear of Carrier products. Im far from an HVAC expert, so I cant make a recommendation on which brand to buy. The only thing I can offer is to save yourself some grief and headaches and DO NOT BUY CARRIER!!!

After a routine check of our vacation home HVAC systems, we were told we should consider replacing the aged units, although they still worked. We decided to spend the $17,000 for two units and set up an install time when we would be there. Install: Day 1 (a Friday): Were told we couldnt use our Nest thermostats. Installers opened crates to find one of the outdoor units had a large dent, but told us the panel would be ordered, and that no internal damage was done.Installers were there until 10:30pm, and said that it wasnt working correctly. They said they would come back Monday.Install: Day 4 (Monday): Installer tried again but couldnt get things going. Said he spent 2 hours on phone with Carrier support. He said part needed and hed return next day. That night we found water dripping in our closet due to drain pan under attic air handler overflowing. Drain pipe not working and float cutoff switch not working. Called night number and were told it would be 10pm, so we said come first thing in the morning Tuesday. Install: Day 5 (Tuesday) Installer came at 3pm. Said part not arrived yet, but got drain pan working. Install: Day 6 (Wednesday) Got call from dealer service department wanting to know what day the next week they could install part. I said that was unacceptable because we would not be here. After 2 calls they agree to send someone next day first thing. Install: Day 7 (Thursday) Installer came at 10am, and after what he said were hours on the phone with Carrier support they were going to install new units. The only ones available were smaller but would be fine. (Im wondering why they recommended the larger, more expensive ones in the first place.)Install: Day 8 (Friday) Installer arrives at 1pm with new units. As I write this they are installing the new units, so I decided to download the Infinity app and get ready for remote access that weve enjoyed for years with Nest. I got the app downloaded and started to register. My screen (mobile and computer) says Carrier server is down, try later. I called support and they said server has been down 11 days, and they do not have an estimated time for it to be operational. Support is open Monday-Friday, so I asked them if I must be at the thermostat to connect it to my phone. They confirm that, so because I must leave Sunday to go home I will not be able to setup remote access. I will not be able to remotely see what the temp is so I wont know if the units are working. If they dont at least get the units working correctly today I plan to have them removed and replaced with Trane units. Please notice that I have attempted to be factual and not be emotional or let my anger, frustration, and home temperature (its over 90 degrees again today) show through. I only write this to let prospective buyers know to think twice before selecting Carrier.

Very dissatisfied with the quality of our Carrier 4 ton air conditioner (model 24ABB348A003). The compressor failed after only 3 years and it was not a blow out failure. The technician said it is internal failures most likely due to the quality of the compressor. The warranty of course only cover the park itself, not even the coolant they have to refill after reinstall the compressor. The diagnosis and the replace of the compressor cost about the 1/4 of the original cost and install of the air conditioner. It is ridiculous to have to spend so much on labor to fix a major component on an problem most likely due to the quality of their product. When speaking to a carrier representative, they do not stand by their product, only referring to the letter of the warranty agreement. Parts also does not include coolant cost. The excuse is that they do not know what exactly cause the compressor failure and they do not look at every compressor that failed, even those that failed in much less typical lifetime of the product. It is very good to know that Carrier does not take quality of their product seriously enough to diagnose major component that prematurely failed. Either that or they have so much failure on their compressor that they just dont care. Either conclusion does not speak well of Carrier as a company.

Just over ten years ago, we built a new home in Pennsylvania and decided on a Carrier heat pump because of anticipated quality and longevity. The outdoor unit is a 38YDB using a Bristol compressor. The compressor recently failed after 10 years and 6 months. Through our HVAC repair company, we knew that Carrier has had problems with the Bristol compressors (which are no longer used) and our repair company should know since they have been a dealer for almost 30 years.I contacted Carrier customer service and customer relations personnel by telephone and I made them aware (although they didnt acknowledge) of the companys compressor problems. I asked two questions : 1) would Carrier provide some satisfaction to our situation with regard to how close to the warranty the failure occurred? and 2) if we should choose to purchase a new Carrier unit, would the company provide any type of recompense toward the cost of the new unit? Carrier provided nothing in response to my inquiries. Essentially, No, were not going to provide any measure of customer relief or satisfaction and with the tone of, nor do we really care if you take your business elsewhere. This I will certainly do!

I have a Carrier 24ANB624A003 condensing unit matched with a 59TN6080V 17-14 gas furnace and using the communicating thermostat. The contractor that installed it used best practise methods and materials when installing the unit. That included pulling a proper vacuum in the refrigerant pipe and installing a filter dryer before opening the valves on the condensing unit. Carriers condensing units are pre-charged with enough refrigerant gas for 25 of line set. The contractor has provided me with a ten-year comprehensive warranty conditional on my having them do the annual preventive maintenance. I have 36 years of experience (now retired) as a commercial heating and air conditioning contractor and I have designed and supervised the installation of thousands of systems and am a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers so I can speak with some authority on the subject. Carriers quality is as good as any other manufacturer. Problems with systems are more often that not poor installations and poorly trained technicians. If your contractor does not provide a ten-year comprehensive parts and labour warranty then choose one that does.

On October 24, 2014, I had a new Carrier air conditioner installed. Unfortunately, the product has not performed well and to our expectations. As of May, 2015 the unit was making an unusual loud noise, although the technician was not able to find anything wrong. In August, 2016 the unit was making a loud noise again. This time we also noticed water leaking and that the unit will successively go on and off. The technician determined that the units expansion valve was faulty. In August 2016 the repair was completed. While the parts were covered under the warranty, we incurred expenses for the labor in amount of $375.00. In addition to the expense incurred and the hindrance of not having AC in 100 degrees weather, we had to twice take time off from our jobs, once to have the unit inspected and a second time to have the repairs done, which took nearly 5 hours to complete. We were disappointed to say the least and find it unacceptable that a new unit that has been in use for less than 2 years, to have such issues. To resolve the problem, we contacted Carrier and kindly requested a full reimbursement of the $375.00 cost we incurred. Per our online research, this issue has happened to other Carrier users and we deem this to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the system, and not normal wear and tear. The response back was that, while they are sorry for the inconvenience created by their system, they cant help us as they are not responsible for the labor cost we incurred! After we spent close to $7k on a new unit, I find it unacceptable to have to spend another $400 in the second year on repairs!

I just opened this website and noted that most of the Carrier reviews were terrible. This is a more advanced system than most HVAC repair companies have knowledge of or experience with. We had a bad experience a couple of summers ago (the a/c was not cooling) and it all came down to the one question I failed to ask the 2 repair companies that were sent to our home by our home warranty company: Does your company INSTALL Carrier systems? Well, (after the 2 companies had spent countless hours and replaced the evaporator coil--which did not make the problem go away), that one little question did the trick! The warranty found one company that actually had installed these systems and they came out and after an hour of hooking up the compressor to the techs computer and consulting with the engineers in Houston, the problem was identified. They replaced the compressor and that was that. We love it. The comfort it brings to our home and the money it saves with the highest efficiency system... We only wish we would have gotten a zoned system. I would recommend Carrier---but you have to get the right people to be your service technicians, preferably the company that installed it...and just take really good care of the system--do all your check-ups regularly. It is not inexpensive to purchase, so why would you just hire anyone to service it?

Wow, horrible company. Bought a unit with a 10-year compressor warranty. Compressor developed a leak. They did nothing to repair/replace unit. Swore I would never buy another carrier. Bought a new house. Builder uses carrier. Less than a year the unit is rusting and corroding on the condensing housing and aluminum coil. Guess what carrier said, we will do nothing. Need I say more?

I purchased a new home in Sept. 2007 with a Carrier HVAC system. I made several complaints to the installation company during the first year about quality of the installation. Three trips and the company assured me they had corrected all items. In just under three years, cooling coils on both units of the two-unit system failed and had to be replaced. Replacement coils were furnished under warranty but the bill was $1500. I hired another company to do an analysis of system. Based on this inspection, I filed a formal complaint with state licensing bureau. Finally, about $4,000 worth of corrective action was performed at no charge. Corrections included the installation of an additional return air ducting that was not installed but was on original design.Well, now 3 years and 5 months later, the cooling coil on one unit has again failed leaking out all Puron over a weekend. Carrier will not provide replacement coil under warranty. Work is being completed today and Id guess the bill will be around $1500. So HVAC repairs of $3000+ in 6 years on new home has to be considered unacceptable quality.

I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.

I purchased a new home in 2005. The Carrier AC unit was installed in 2004 when the home was completed. In the last 6 years, my AC has failed 8 times and my heater once. In 2006, my AC failed and I paid approximately $100 to replace freon. In 2007, I replaced freon again. In 2008, I replaced freon again and then they discovered my coil had a hole in it. In all, I spent over $500 in freon charges and labor that were not covered by the warranty in the first 4 years I owned the home. A year later, my compressor wont start and I had to fix that. Then my compressor went out a year later. Now my compressor wont start again. The HVAC people will only tell me it has age on it. It is 7 years old. I have spent over $1000 of my own money fixing it. In between the yearly (and in two cases twice yearly) breakdowns of the AC unit, my heater failed in 2009.

I purchased an Infinity air conditioner from the Carrier Corporation through Airflow Designs in Orlando FL. The air conditioner was originally installed on May 3, 2007 and cost $7,600 for the unit and a 10 year warranty. On July 5, 2010 the compressor went out and again on May 22, 2015 the compressor went out again. After lots of phone calls and much aggravation I have found that they used Bristol compressors and would be using that same product previously installed when installing this compressor. If that compressor has a high failure rate why do they continue to use them? However they would install another condenser for $2545 (cost from Airflow cost from Carrier was $1545) made by another company. It took quite a while to get in touch with anyone that actually works for the Carrier Corporation to find out what kind of support they provide for ineffective products. I contacted the corporate offices for Carrier (5/22/2015) and they only meet once a month to discuss this kind of issue and I got a reply 3 weeks (6/15/2015) after the request for help resolving this matter. So the choices were to go with what is covered under the warranty and has gone out twice in the past 7 years or pay a large sum of money to replace this unit that seems to be problematic. What is the point of having a warranty if you are going to continue to get ineffective products installed? I am also wondering why this company thinks that I would spend that much money with them again instead of going with a company that has a better reputation! Keeping in mind that I have an extended warranty for parts and labor for this air conditioner.

Five years ago, I had 7 5-ton Carrier 17 Seer units installed at my house (yes, really). It got hot a few days ago. Tech came out today and told me that 4 compressors have failed. All of the units run off of batteries first which are energized by street power and generator power. Ill keep everyone posted on how this evolves. I pay 20k a year for a 24/7/365 response on the HVAC systems. Hopefully, Carrier steps up and does the right thing.

I will just be vague at this point to say that this is the worst air conditioner I have owned. This unit has had issues every year since I bought it. I bought it in Aug of 2008. Last year the compressor went out. The fan to the air handler went out the first year. And many instances in between. I heard of something from a service tech saying there was some recourse. I want recourse. I could not rate this unit since there are no negative options.

We purchased a Carrier air conditioner and furnace through a dealer called Weather King 8 years ago. We thought Carrier was a quality company. The unit seemed to function well for a while. We live in Ohio and only use the air about 6-8 times a year, so we were surprised when the unit kept running and not cooling last fall. We contacted the dealer and paid $79 for a service call. We were told there was a loss of Freon and to schedule a visit in the spring. We did so, and were charged almost $500 more with no repair. We were told the coil was bad and told to contact Carrier. The Carrier rep was very curt and refused to help. She said that even though we registered the unit, the warranty was good for only 5 years. We have since learned from professionals that the defective Carrier coils are an industry wide problem and that a class action suit may be filed soon. We feel Carrier is deceptive in their practices and would advise readers to STOP BUYING CARRIER.

Currently have 4 Carrier heat pumps at my home -3.8, 3.0 and two 2.4 units. Units installed 2009 in new residence. 3.0 unit evaporator coil replaced 4-2014, now coil is leaking again! Coils in other units, after HVAC tech. inspection could fail at any time!! Labor costs so far exceed $800! Carrier distributor can do nothing! Distributor can DO NOTHING, but I can -- NEVER, NEVER, NEVER purchase or recommend any product produced by United Technologies. Planning to present my case to Texas Home Builders Assoc. and recommend that they do not disappoint home buyers by installing United Technologies products in new or remodeled homes! CARRIER UNITS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

I bought a new Carrier Performance model air conditioner in 7/09. 3 years later, supposedly the evaporator coil is possibly leaking refrigerant (410a) as the unit is barely cooling. The estimated cost to replace the coil (coil still under 5-year part warranty) for labor is $993 (includes the cost of 8lbs of Puron) and an additional $150-$400 to do a leak search. I am looking at approximately $1200+ for labor to repair. For a fairly expensive outlay for a piece of equipment and only lasting 3 years, this doesnt sit too well with me. After reading all the following complaints about Carrier and their evap coils, you wonder, where is their engineering on these coils? Possibly thicker copper tubing might help with the increase in operating pressures with Puron? Where is their quality control? Where is their concern for their customer base? If you keep making an inferior product (or is this planned obsolescence?), maybe Carrier needs to take lessons from Japan on making good products. My previous Payne A/C lasted approximately 35 years with only approximately 3 service calls. Needless to say, I am a very dissatisfied customer with this product. In fact, I am thinking on having this unit pulled out and buying another brand and take my loss as I have no confidence that another evap coil replacement will not fail in the future.

Got Carrier Infinity Greenspeed in November 2012. Got the 97.2% efficiency infinity modulating natural gas furnace and 4 ton 17 SEER air conditioning unit. I do love the low speed variable heating as it keeps a gentle constant heat. Cooling is also good and efficient. Both units, however, have been unreliable. In October 2014 the furnace broke. We needed a new inducer motor. They dont keep parts at Carrier, so it took several days to get the part. Cost me $400 for labor and other parts. In July 2015 air conditioning unit leaked and had to have coolant replaced. In May 2016, the unit would not start during routine twice a year maintenance service agreement we had with installer. There were multiple leaks and the entire outside unit and coil had to be replaced. The installer was great and didnt charge for labor since we had repeated problems with the unit. Carrier again did not have parts on hand, so had to wait a week on parts. Still cost me $600 in additional installer parts not covered by Carrier. So, on this supposed high end system, both the furnace and air conditioner have had major failures in under 3 years of use and these have cost me over $1000 out of pocket. Obviously, my conclusion is that Carrier Infinity Greenspeed is a piece of junk.

I built my home and had a Carrier heating and air system installed less than 5 years ago. I believed Carrier to be one of the best so it was worth the extra money. I was wrong. In the last 4 and a half years, I have had 9, yes 9, service calls on my system. I have had fans out of balance (one was so bad it would rattle the dishes on the countertop in the kitchen). The main units compressor locked up and had to be replaced. The main thermostat went out and had to be replaced. Theres a freon leak in the upstairs unit and freon has had to be added to both units 4 times. It leaked water condensation in the attic, and now I go to turn it on over the weekend and the downstairs unit blows warm air. It wont cool. It has cost me over $1,300 out of pocket for the things not covered under warranty. Some labor was not covered, some service calls were not covered and, who knew Id have to pay shipping to get replacement parts shipped to me and then pay shipping to have the faulty parts shipped back to Carrier??? What a ** way to do business. The installer, Love Heating and Air in Monroe, NC is worthless and horrible to deal with and now Im getting the runaround with Carrier Corp. Im done with Carrier and wish they would come and rip this crap out of my home. Ill buy the Trane instead or a box fan. At least, the box fan would work.

Ive been told, time and again, that HVAC units can last and should last to
Ive been told, time and again, that HVAC units can last and should last to at least 10 years, but have the capacity to last up to 15yrs. Why is it, then, that NO Carrier HVAC unit weve had installed by local business Central Air, in Texarkana,Tx, had lasted more than 10yrs? The most recent unit was purchased, new, in 2013. Whereas I never see any neighbors have HVAC companies coming to do maintenance checks on their units, and this household has always paid to have them done... what is the deal with ours not lasting as long!! I use my HVAC very frugally, doing my best to keept the temp set at 78 in the Texas summer months, and also heater wise, I keep my home CHILLY in winter. I layer up my clothes no matter if Im dressed, or if Im in my pajamas! I layer my nightgowns wearing two of them at a time, and oft times wear my robe, and perhaps even throw on one of my athletic style jackets over it!So... I mentioned my CARRIER brand HVAC --not-- lasting?? Last year--July 2019... the compressor in my Carrier blew out!! What in tarnation! I do learn that its covered by warranty, but that does NOT mean that the additional parts required, nor the labor required, nor the refrigerant which was lost= NONE of those... ABSOLUTELY NONE of those things were covered. What in the heck---is CARRIER in cahoots with its dealer??? I was still out over $600usd per having to have the compressor replaced!! And good grief, it would have been astronomical to have had to pay for a new compressor too!! I suspect that Carrier must think, oh goodness the customer will be so relieved that we covered the cost of the new compressor, that theyll simply not be aggrieved by the output of cash still necessitated by the situation!! I am still upset to this point in time, to have had to pay for more refrigerant!! To have had to pay for the labor. To have had to pay for the extra parts ruined by the compressor blowing!! Does CARRIER --NOT use quality compressors! All I can figure is that they rely on planned obsolescence to survive! But they forget, once BITTEN, TWICE SHY!!! My future will be cooled by another brand!! I am looking into Trane, and others!! CARRIER can NOT be relied upon, per my experience, and-----per my estimation. I recently did an engine search on the Carrier brand and is stated in black and white that Carrier IS essentially UNRELIABLE! Oh, and to add the CHERRY on TOP of the HVAC SUNDAE... my capacitor broke in May of 2020!! I pitched a fit, and it wound up that the HVAC tech got permission to replace my capacitor at no cost, free of charge, to me. Darn tootin! That action, and gesture, though appreciated is no salve for the financial wound caused me, by Carriers choice of compressors they place into their units! Does CARRIER NOT comprehend that $6000USD for a HVAC UNIT is expensive enough? CAN they NOT take things A step further by building QUALITY PRODUCTS! They are perpetrating an epic fail by resting on the laurels of their good name! I donnt mind being vocal, via social media, as NECESSITATED/REQUIRED/NEEDED!! Id already expressed some displeasure via a public cheers and jeers group on Facebook, but really-- I bit my tongue, because much mreo can be said!! Listen up CARRIER!! ILL be RIDING the TRANE TRAIN, the NEXT TIME I need a NEW HVAC SYSTEM!!

When the President moved to save Carrier jobs, I initially was pleased, as Carrier was the HVAC that came with our home. That system worked fine for 22-plus years and was not new when we moved in. Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! Its had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and its brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units. The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, weve suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought Id researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carriers old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now Im told by several techs that we should have gone with a Goodman. This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!

Module failed on model #FV4BNB006. I called an HVAC company. Carrier said the unit was warrantied for 5 years at the time this was purchased, although now the same exact unit is warrantied for 10 years. Sure enough, without knowing the exact date of install, Carrier claims the unit is out of warranty as of November of 2012. They dont care that the same unit now currently has a warranty of 10 years (new policy as of 2009); that the unit should not have failed 5 years prematurely; and that we, at the time we called, were only 3 months over the 5-year warranty. I spoke with a supervisor Jamie at customer relations. She was curt, only would repeat their policy and could care less about the situation of the same exact unit being warrantied for 10 years now. She didnt even know what the part was nor considered that it should not have failed at least 5 years premature! Oddly enough, there was another person listening into our conversation (another supervisor, Diane ID #**). She just came on the line without identifying herself and interrupted our conversation to say they would do absolutely nothing nor consider helping. Not only did I find this company absolutely uninterested in doing what is right, you could tell they were trained to do exactly the opposite. The way they operate, having big brother ready to chime in when they can to deny a claim, was downright creepy! Do yourself a favor. Look at all these miserable reviews of this awful company and steer clear of them. I have never written a review of a company before, but if theres one person I can help by reading this, its worth it. Carrier, you truly are an awful company and should be ashamed!

Despite the inverter unit being sold to me as a cost saver, this is clearly not the case. The circuit boards are poor quality and do not last 5 years. Replacement boards cost the price of a new regular air conditioner. No-one advises you that you need to perform rust prevention, this prevention, that prevention when you have it installed, but when it goes wrong they are sure to let you know. I will never again waste my hard earned money on a Carrier aircon, nor an inverter unit. A regular, modern unit consumes roughly the same power as an average fridge/freezer. The cost to maintain an inverter unit is ridiculous.
