Carrier Appliance Repair
Built on Willis Carrier's invention of modern air conditioning in 1902, Carrier is a world leader in heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions. They constantly build upon our history of proven innovation with new products and services that improve global comfort and efficiency.
Air Conditioner Repair
Carrier manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Carrier appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.
CHECK YOUR THERMOSTAT
Start by checking your thermostat. If the system is on, but set for heating instead of cooling, the system likely won’t operate. Switch it back to either cooling or auto mode (automatically switches between heating and cooling), and check that an appropriate cooling temperature is selected. According the Department of Energy, 78⁰F is a good setting for both comfort and energy efficiency when you are home.
If you have a programmable thermostat, check to be sure your comfort schedule is properly set for cooling at the time you are having the issue, and make adjustments if necessary.
CIRCUIT BREAKER IS TRIPPED
If you are satisfied that the thermostat settings are correct, check your power supply. Your AC system runs on electricity, and there are typically three locations you can check to be sure the issue isn’t with power to the system. First, locate your main breaker box panel and make sure the AC system circuit breaker hasn’t been tripped. The outdoor unit typically takes 220v power to operate and should be on its own circuit. If that isn’t the issue, there is a power switch typically located on the air handler unit (furnace or fan coil) inside your home that looks similar to a light switch. It should be in the “on” position. If that’s not the issue, step outside and check the power disconnect for the outdoor unit. It is usually located in a separate box, usually mounted on the home near the outdoor unit. Make sure it is in the “on” position as well.
If the issue is a tripped circuit breaker, keep in mind that it could have been caused by a power surge of some kind, possibly weather related. If the system continues to trip the circuit breaker, shut it down and call a professional HVAC technician.
AIR FILTER IS BLOCKED
Another common and easily remedied situation that sometimes results in a central air conditioner fan not working is a dirty, clogged air filter. Your system’s air filter traps dust, dirt and other airborne pollutants to keep indoor air and internal cooling system components cleaner. If it’s not cleaned or replaced regularly, a clogged air filter can restrict air flow to the point that it feels like the indoor fan is not properly circulating air. In extreme cases, restricted airflow can cause the entire system to shut down. If this is the case, simply cleaning or replacing the air filter should solve the problem.
For more information on changing the system’s air filter, and how often to do it, take a look at our air conditioner maintenance page.
BROKEN FAN BLADE
If your system is running but you hear unusual noise coming from the outdoor unit, you might have a bad fan or a bent or broken fan blade. To troubleshoot, turn off the system at the thermostat as a safety precaution. A broken or damage fan blade can be dangerous if the system turns on while you are inspecting it. Once you have ensured the system is turned off, go outside to the outdoor unit. The condenser fan motor and fan are typically mounted at the top in the center of the unit and are usually visible through the fan guard or wire grill. If a fan blade is cracked, loose or broken, it can cause unusual noises due to it being out of balance or physically striking other components in the outdoor unit. If you discover a broken or damaged fan blade, keep the system turned off and contact a local HVAC professional for repair.
BURNT OUT CONDENSER FAN MOTOR
If the fan blades seem to be ok, turn the system back on and check that the outside condenser fan motor is operating properly. Vibration or noisy operation would signal the fan blades are likely out of balance. If the fan blades don’t spin at all, it’s likely the condenser fan is not working and possibly burnt out, requiring replacement. In either case, we recommend calling a professional HVAC technician to diagnose and remedy the problem.
FROZEN EVAPORATOR COIL
Air conditioner fans not working can be a sign of a frozen evaporator coil. The evaporator coil sits inside your home within the air handler unit (furnace or fan coil), pulling heat and humidity from indoor air as it passes through. The evaporator coil can freeze up as a result of indoor blower fan malfunction, low refrigerant charge, low outdoor temperatures, or other system malfunctions. Because a frozen evaporator coil can be the result of a blower fan stoppage or the reason the blower fan stops running, a frozen coil with fan stoppage should be diagnosed and remedied by your local Carrier expert.
COMPRESSOR IS NOT WORKING
Many of the malfunctions already discussed can ultimately damage the compressor. Your AC system’s compressor is mounted inside the outdoor unit and is responsible for circulating refrigerant through the system’s copper tubing and coils. If the power to your AC unit is on, and the thermostat is set properly, yet there is no noise coming from the unit, the problem may be a damaged or malfunctioning compressor. Replacing a compressor is a major operation, which should be performed by a licensed and experienced HVAC technician. This will likely also raise the question of whether it is time to replace the entire unit or do the repair.
MALFUNCTIONING RUN CAPACITOR
The outdoor unit of your AC system includes a smallish metal cylinder called a run capacitor that plays a large role in your system’s functioning. The run capacitor controls and supplies the electrical charge that starts and continues to operate the unit’s fan motor. If a run capacitor malfunctions, your AC system may not start, or it might start but continue to run, possibly making a humming sound. Other signs the run capacitor has malfunctioned include slow or delayed start-up, system shut down, or the system not blowing cold air. If you suspect a faulty run capacitor is the cause of your air conditioner fan not working, contact a professional HVAC service tech. Capacitors can retain electrical charge and should only be replaced or handled by a licensed and trained professional.
Furnace Repair
Carrier manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Carrier appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.
Furnace doesn't turn on
Check that the thermostat is set correctly to “heat.” The mode could be off or set on cooling, or the set point might be higher than the indoor temperature, causing the furnace to turn off until additional heat is required. Try adjusting the temperature on the thermostat to be higher than the current room temperature.
Check the thermostat to ensure it is getting power. Those that aren’t hardwired into your home use batteries that may need to be replaced.
Check that the fan switch is turned to the “on” or “auto” setting.
Check the circuit breaker to ensure the furnace is still getting power.
Check the pilot light if you are using an older furnace. If the pilot has gone out, relight it carefully.
Check to ensure that the gas supply is still on. However, if you suspect a gas leak or smell gas in your home, do not turn any switches on or off, and do not attempt to relight the pilot light. Call the gas company to come check it.
Air is not hot enough
Check the air filter. A clogged filter limits the amount of air that gets through.
Furnace turns off and on constantly
Check the thermostat setting.
Check the air filter.
Check to ensure room air vents are open and objects are not covering them.
Furnace runs noisily
Whistling sound—check the air filter to see if it is clogged.
A loud ignition sound when starting up the furnace—check the burner. A clogged burner can delay ignition, which causes a loud noise when the gas ignites. This repair requires an expert.
Whistling or rattling—check for loose connections in the ductwork that can rattle as air flows through.
Heat Pump Repair
Repairing a heat pump can involve various tasks, and the specific steps will depend on the nature of the problem. However, here are some general steps you can take if you're comfortable working with HVAC systems:
Safety First: Before starting any repairs, ensure your safety by turning off the power to the heat pump at the circuit breaker or disconnect switch.
Identify the Problem: Assess the symptoms and try to determine the root cause of the issue. This could involve checking error codes, inspecting components, or listening for unusual sounds.
Check Electrical Connections: Examine the electrical connections and wiring to ensure they are secure and free from damage. Tighten any loose connections and repair or replace any frayed or damaged wiring.
Clean or Replace Air Filters: Dirty or clogged air filters can restrict airflow and impact the heat pump's efficiency. Clean or replace the filters as necessary, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Inspect and Clean the Outdoor Unit: Clear away any debris, leaves, or vegetation obstructing the outdoor unit. Clean the unit's coils using a soft brush or gentle stream of water to remove dirt and debris.
Check Refrigerant Levels: If you suspect a refrigerant leak or inadequate levels, it's best to consult a professional technician. Handling refrigerant requires specialized knowledge and equipment.
Test Capacitors and Relays: Faulty capacitors or relays can cause issues with the heat pump's operation. Use a multimeter to test these components for proper functionality, and replace them if needed.
Lubricate Moving Parts: Some heat pumps have motors or bearings that require lubrication. Refer to the user manual to determine which parts need lubrication and follow the recommended procedure.
Verify Thermostat Functionality: Ensure that the thermostat is calibrated correctly and functioning properly. Test its settings and replace batteries if necessary.
Restart the Heat Pump: After completing the necessary repairs, restore power to the heat pump and observe its operation. Check for proper heating or cooling, and listen for any unusual sounds or performance issues.
Please note that heat pumps are complex systems, and certain repairs may require specialized knowledge and tools. If you're unsure about any step or encounter a more complex problem, it's recommended to contact a qualified HVAC technician to ensure a safe and accurate repair.

I purchased a new home and the day I moved in, the unit was not working. I have a 1 year warranty. The licensed contractor comes out often to either tell me the unit is frozen, needs to be charged or coil needs replacing because of an expansion valve has malfunctioned. Even when a/c unit is supposedly fixed, it does not cool the home properly. It takes at least 4-5 hours to drop 2 degrees. The a/c unit runs constantly and is very inefficient. HVAC unit is a 13 Seer, 2 1/2 ton unit and Im in a 2 story, 2,100+ square foot home. I have been in my home less than 3 months, and the 3rd coil is getting ready to be replaced. This is the 10th service call. This is the first Carrier HVAC unit Ive ever owned and will be the last one.
In 2002, I invested $6,000.00 to have Carriers top-of-the-line heat pump installed at my home. A very large investment for me! I thought it will be well worth it to have the highest quality, 2-stage, rated with energy star and uses Puron. Turns out this unit is quite the lemon. By the looks of all the other complaints I now see concerning the same system, I guess theyre nearly all lemons. Wish someone could make Carrier do the right thing and provide what they advertised. And are still advertising. I had this unit installed by a reputable heating and air company. From the beginning it never did work all that well. It did cool however so I did not complain. It only seemed to work about half as good as advertised. On real hot days, it would not keep up with demand and cool that well. If in the 90s outside, the best it would cool was to about 76-78 inside. Cool enough to live so I didnt complain. In 2006, it stopped cooling altogether, so I called what many believe to be one of the most reputable heating and air company around to troubleshoot it. They said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. This was under warranty but I would have to pay the labor. Labor to install the new compressor was $1,200.00. I had a couple other companies also price the labor and all were about the same. It killed me to pay $1,200.00 labor to install a compressor that is under warranty. I considered alternatives such as maybe just install a new unit, but a new unit would cost more than twice that amount installed. I figured this is one of the most reputable heating and air companies around so I told them to go ahead and change the compressor and paid them $1,200.00. It was cooling my home again but still only cooling about half what it should, same as before. In the winter, the electric back-up strips were on most of the time, even when outside was in the 40s. I put up, told the installer about this and they added Puron a couple of times at quite some expense. They told me I should have had them install the unit originally. Then they would stand behind it better. In summer 2008, there were many days in the 90s and the unit would only cool to about 79-80 inside. I had them check the unit again. They said the unit was leaking Puron from the charging valve and that this had nothing to do with them installing the new compressor in 2006. They gave me a price of $1,300.00 to replace the leaking charging valve. It was extremely hot outside (upper 90s) during this time, so I paid them the $1,300.00 to replace it. After that, it did cool our house down to mid to upper 70s. Still not cooling so great but good enough. Winter time came and back to having the back-up heating kicking in when outside in the 40s and later even when in the 50s. The next summer, back to not cooling so well but could live, so did not complain. Winter came again and using back up heat. When the next summer came, it was in the 90s outside and could only cool to the 80s inside. I had to have Puron added again buy the same reputable company? They would not cut me any break on the cost of the Puron. They said if they were the original installer in 2002 then they would take care of me a little better. After they added Puron this time they said to just call someone else if I had any more trouble with it. Now here it is summer of 2014 and not cooling at all. I had a different company look at it and they told me they believe the compressor is bad and recommended I call the same company that installed the compressor when it was under warranty. He said he have never worked on one of these very high efficiency units. I did call the Carrier Corporation a few times since the original install in 2002 and I was told that there was nothing that Carrier would do to help. We have Carriers very best unit on the market and we are sweating in our home and just hoping it will be cool at night so we can sleep. Not sure what to do now. I guess I will have to have another reputable company come out and install another unit or something. The new compressor was install in August 2008, not quite 6 years ago. I dont know if it will be under warranty or not. The original compressor had a 10-year warranty. Does that mean this second compressor will have a 10-year warranty? Wish Carrier would do the right thing and provide me with a new unit that worked as advertised. Any suggestions?
Just installed a new 2 1/2 ton Carrier air conditioner. It emits 85 decibels of sound. It was advertised to be as low as 65 decibels. This is intolerable at night! Carrier could care less!!! NO recourse for me. Buying Carrier was a colossal blunder! I have no one to blame but myself. As it turns out American Standard was the best choice. Trane was second. That was based on exhaustive research, after the purchase. I found what seemed to be endless complaints against Carrier. How do you test drive an air conditioner? Caveat emptor!
I paid $13,000 for an Infinity System in July 2007. On New Years Eve, the furnace failed and we sat for three days without heat until the blower motor could be replaced. This summer 2014 the heat pump failed and I had to pay $3500 for the bottom line Carrier heat pump to match the remaining system. $16,500 for a system with TWO major failures in seven years? I AM DONE WITH CARRIER.
Over the past 4 years I have had to replace the blower module on my heat pump 4 times. The latest module is attached to the blower motor which costs me $1400.00. Does Carrier care at all about it’s reputation and its customers or are they out to make a fast buck off of selling parts? I am a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran and simply cannot afford to replace the same part every year at a cost of $1,000.00+! Carrier needs to stand up and make their product better instead making them to fail as soon as the warranty expires.
In June of 2010, I had my Carrier Infinity heat pump replaced. My old unit was crushed by ice. I went to use the AC at the start of the summer of 2011 and the AC was inoperative. The compressor failed in less than 1 year.Carrier paid for parts only and would not pay over $700 in labor or for freon charges. Almost worthless warranty. Pathetic company. I purchased 2 infinity systems for $22,000 6 years ago. It will never happen again.
In 2007, I bought top of line Carrier air conditioner. Yesterday, I had the semi-annual service done only to find out that the coil is leaking and needs to be replaced. The technician said that these coils are defected and Carrier has redesigned them. Even though they are defected, Carrier will only pay for the part and I have to eat over $500 in labor to install it. This doesnt seem right that I have to pay for Carriers mistake. All I know is that I am done with Carrier products.
On our new house, the heating system is Carrier. Five years and three months now, it is out of warranty and the coil leaks have evaporated. Carrier refused to replace the part which, I think, is the quality problem. In Trane system, I had an AC which lasted for 24 years and is still going strong and did not lose freon. They just make junk parts. Two years after, the startup condenser fan will not start and they had to add a start-up kit to get the fan going again and patch up design. I will never buy or recommend any Carrier product to anyone I know. Just stay away from the product that they make.
My home is a little over 5 years old and I have 2 Carrier split units. Low coolant and of course a leaking condenser. Carrier units are specific and do not use generic parts so a normal $300 condenser is $953. Carrier responded with, We are sorry. Your unit is out of warranty by 4 months. There is NOTHING we can do. No offer to get me a reduced price on a crappy piece of hardware they engineered and installed in their units. Had 3 HVAC specialists say the same thing... NEVER USE A CARRIER. They dont care crap about their customers and they ** you on the parts because you have NO CHOICE but to get it from them. Going to dump them ASAP.
I had a new heat pump installed yesterday. While the technician was here, we attempted to register the new equipment using the website address in the Carrier literature. A message came up and said its not a valid website (cac.bdp.com). So I called Carrier, their phone message said to go to Carrier.com/homecomfort to register the product, which I did. While the tech was here, I attempted to register the equipment but the website kept asking for the installer no matter what I entered. The technician recommended that I call Carrier back (he had to go to his next job). I called Carrier and was told they no longer accept product registrations over the phone. So when I told the woman I could log in to their website to register the product while she was on the phone, she said she wasnt allowed to hold for customers. She seemed pretty rude. The problem here is that the Carrier website wont allow me to register my product (tried three different browsers) and their customer service will not help me register. This comes across as a warranty scam. Make it difficult so that customers dont register the product then deny warranty claims.
Freeze notices sent in email - servicemens visit confirmed bad fluid plugging A-coil. This is the 2nd service call on company recall for this area. Failures occur after first winter. Parts and tools on order. Wait and see about costs verses warranty. 362 days after new install of furnace and air conditioner.
Lake Lure NC. After two years turned on A/C for recently completed bonus room for future retirement house. Unit started short cycling. Two tech visits later condenser coil found to have two or more leaks. Contact with Carrier customer service and they admit product defect and hide behind one year labor warranty. They are sorry I am dissatisfied. I own four Toyotas because they stand behind their product. Last Carrier product I will own. I called by HVAC contractor in Fl and he is replacing my failing unit with Rheem. Sorry Carrier, customer service doesnt take an Einstein.
My HVAC system from Carrier has worked well from the start and has never skipped a beat. It is the best system I’ve ever owned. And the price was affordable as well. And guess what - I work for Trane!
We purchased our air conditioner in 2007 and have had problems 4 out of 5 seasons. Living in Michigan, we basically have only run our air conditioner for a little over a year now. The 1st year, a bad sensor had to be replaced; 2nd year ran okay; 3rd year, it ran constantly and hardly cooled down our home. At the beginning of the 4th year, it ran out of freon and was recharged, and last year it ran out of freon again. The installer found a pinhole in the coil and it had to be replaced. Our installer/servicer was very helpful and worked with us to help keep labor costs down but, Carrier should stand behind their product and cover all labor for warranty parts. I shouldnt have to pay labor charges on factory defective parts. Its very frustrating to have purchased a top-of-the-line unit, only to feel like we ended up with a lemon and have little recourse but to accept Carriers less than satisfactory limited warranty. I get the feeling Carrier couldnt care less about the little guy, once a sale is made. At least the car manufacturers cover labor and parts for warranty work. Type Of Product : Central Air Conditioner, Serial Number : **, Model Number : 24APA324A0030010, Installed Date : 05/17/2007.Update 5/3/12: Surprise, surprise, here it is the beginning of the warm weather season and we turned on the AC today and it isnt working. We will have to wait until I can get a servicer out to find out whats wrong now.
Payne is a division of Carrier Corp. I purchased a Payne central A/C unit in 2011 and have regretted it ever since. By 2014, the unit was not cooling my house. I contacted the installer who came to diagnose and repair. I was told there was a small Freon leak and my vent directions were set wrong and everything should be OK. 2016 - Again the A/C not cooling house. The original technician did not return my calls. I hired another company to diagnose/fix. They told me there was a Freon leak that caused damage to my unit and it needs to be replaced. I contacted Payne (a division of Carrier). Wow! A service tech responded with aggression/sarcasm. He kept saying Well why cant you tell me whats wrong the unit? I kept asking him to call the HVAC company to find out. He told me I had to hire yet another company at my cost and that Payne would not pay for this even though he had not talked to the first company. He agreed to talk to the first company. Days later, no response. The outside HVAC company told me they have tried to contact the agent several times. No response. I contacted customer relations at Payne. I was just informed my conversation is being recorded. This unit is still under warranty and now I have read reviews from this site, I am horrified! I have spent hours on the phone. It has been 90 degrees this week and I cant get anyone to help me.
Five years ago, I had 7 5-ton Carrier 17 Seer units installed at my house (yes, really). It got hot a few days ago. Tech came out today and told me that 4 compressors have failed. All of the units run off of batteries first which are energized by street power and generator power. Ill keep everyone posted on how this evolves. I pay 20k a year for a 24/7/365 response on the HVAC systems. Hopefully, Carrier steps up and does the right thing.
We purchased a new Carrier heat pump air handler and heat pump, and in just under 2 years it stopped working. The technician came out, and determined the compressor just stopped working, and needed to be replaced. The unit is still under warranty, but of course labor and refrigerant is not covered so the cost to replace it is just over $900.00. We paid $5300.00. I contacted Carrier who said they stand behind the compressor, but they wont pay for labor or refrigerant...nothing. Absolutely useless!! NEVER buy a Carrier! Their equipment is garbage.
I purchased an Infinity air conditioner from the Carrier Corporation through Airflow Designs in Orlando FL. The air conditioner was originally installed on May 3, 2007 and cost $7,600 for the unit and a 10 year warranty. On July 5, 2010 the compressor went out and again on May 22, 2015 the compressor went out again. After lots of phone calls and much aggravation I have found that they used Bristol compressors and would be using that same product previously installed when installing this compressor. If that compressor has a high failure rate why do they continue to use them? However they would install another condenser for $2545 (cost from Airflow cost from Carrier was $1545) made by another company. It took quite a while to get in touch with anyone that actually works for the Carrier Corporation to find out what kind of support they provide for ineffective products. I contacted the corporate offices for Carrier (5/22/2015) and they only meet once a month to discuss this kind of issue and I got a reply 3 weeks (6/15/2015) after the request for help resolving this matter. So the choices were to go with what is covered under the warranty and has gone out twice in the past 7 years or pay a large sum of money to replace this unit that seems to be problematic. What is the point of having a warranty if you are going to continue to get ineffective products installed? I am also wondering why this company thinks that I would spend that much money with them again instead of going with a company that has a better reputation! Keeping in mind that I have an extended warranty for parts and labor for this air conditioner.
I had 25 year old air conditioner that needed the usual minor repairs every few years, nothing major. My A/C bill was high so I decided to buy a new cost efficient A/C, against several technicians advice. I checked around and was told to by homeowners that Carrier was the one to buy. Theyve had theirs for 20 years without problems. I bought this one less than 2 years ago and have had service technicians out three times and the blower motor changed last year. This weekend it stopped working again and the technician said I needed a new compressor. Major repair. $1,200 cost. Called Carrier to complain and all they told me was that parts are free, but labor is not. The parts may be free, but the shipping is not! This is ridiculous! Less than 2 years old and Carrier is not doing anything about it. Back to homeowners that told me to buy a Carrier, they all bought them when they were made in America. Everyone who is having issues, I wager, their A/C was made in Mexico. Coincidence? I think not!
We purchased a new Carrier Infinity 18 SEER HE system in April 2018 ($12,300). The system was for the downstairs of a 3200 square foot home and installed in a crawlspace. At the time of installation, there had never been any moisture issues in the crawlspace for the 20 year life of the home, not with the original owners, not with two home inspections, and not with our experience with the previous HVAC system that had been in place for fifteen years, in fact the crawlspace had always been very dry. Once we installed the Carrier Infinity system, we began to notice problems with keeping the humidity levels in our home at a reasonable level, we were seeing 65-76 percent readings on a regular basis. We reached out to the Carrier dealer and they told us we needed to replace all of the ductwork underneath the house. We moved forward and did as was suggested ($4600) in August of 2019. A few weeks after the ductwork install, we switched to heat pump and thought the problem was resolved as humidity levels in the winter stayed around 45% inside the home during the winter when the heat pump was being used and there was no use of the AC. Fast forward to summer 2020. We started using the AC again in April and by July 2020 the beautiful hardwoods in our home began to buckle and we began to see incredible amounts of moisture building in our walls. Our light switches actually began to buckle from the moisture, and if you took one off the wall, the moisture was enough to drip onto the floor. We have pictures of all of this. Moisture readings were back to 68 to 78 percent and 83% in the crawlspace. Through word of mouth and social media, we found several other families who were experiencing the exact same issue in our county alone, their homes, walls, and floors also being slowly destroyed by intense moisture after installation of the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system. We were in contact with the Carrier dealer throughout. Unfortunately, the dealer had a massive fire that destroyed all of their records and they had to rebuild, so there are no records of our original install other than the paperwork we have. After their rebuild that delayed our interaction, the dealer came again to our home and rewired our system to use only two drive phases instead of the designed five. This did not bring the moisture levels down. We were told several times there was a moisture problem in our crawlspace and that was causing our issues. We worked with our homeowners insurance agent and he sent a home inspection/moisture specialist who determined there was no runoff or water issue in our crawlspace and suggested the problem may be the installation of the super efficient Carrier system in 2018. The dealer returned again in September 2020 and replaced the ductwork again, suggesting that the duct boots were not installed correctly in the first ductwork replacement in 2019.This also did not address the intense humidity issue, with readings in our crawlspace reaching 83% moisture in certain areas. Inside the home we could not maintain anything under 68% humidity. The dealer then brought a large dehumidifier in late October 2020 that has been running all winter. With the AC off, the basement has dried out with use of the heat pump and zero use of the AC all winter. We will be installing the optional integrated Carrier dehumidifier next and will see if that addresses the issue when we switch back to AC, somewhere in early April. After hearing from all the other families that have experienced the exact same intense humidity and moisture damage in their homes after installing the Carrier Infinity 18 seer system, we are not confident that we will see any difference. We are out almost $18K, we have a practically new HVAC system that is slowly destroying our home, we will need to replace all of our floors and subfloors, and we are praying that our wiring has not corroded. Carrier was called to one of the other families homes and told them what we were told, that they had a moisture problem and that it was not the system.Carrier KNOWS this is an issue, the dealers KNOW this is an issue, but Carrier refuses to address it. We are writing this review to bring awareness. Consumer BEWARE. Carrier NEEDS to address this and figure out whats causing this 18 seer 5 phase system to destroy certain homes. We hope this honest review keeps others aware of what can happen with a Carrier Infinity 18 seer system and keeps others from living the nightmare we have since the installation of this system.
I purchased and had installed a complete Carrier Heat Pump and Air handler system. The air handler failed 3 years after installation. Carrier warrantied the part but it cost over a $1000 for installation and freon. I looked at the evaporator coil and it was total rusted through. How they can manufacturer a product that fails completely after 3 years is unthinkable. Carrier was not willing to help defray any of the installation and freon costs. I will NEVER buy a Carrier product again.
We purchased a Carrier Infinity Series Model # 25HNA64A8003 in 2008 when we built a new house. We bought the most efficient unit with a 10 year warranty. We had always had a TRANE but went with a local company that promised we would be satisfied. In December 2010, we started having trouble. December 2010 we replaced the first compressor. January 2011, August 2011, October 2011, October 2011. We went through 3 compressors which our dealer failed to point out. After two, we hired another repair company and at this point we knew we were on number three. By this time, it is Labor Day 2013.He replaced the third compressor in September 2013 and found out that Carrier knew of the problems. Our local company, Simmons Heating and Air would not do anything about it either. December 2013 and now it is the capacitor and start cap relay. We tried to work out a solution with Carrier and our local Simmons Heating and Air. We decided to spend another $1400.00 to have the unit replaced in 2013. We now have Model Number 25HNB648A003. It is Labor Day, 2014 and we are sitting in 100 degree weather in North Carolina. The repairman showed up today and said it is now the blower in the air handler, which has a 5 year warranty which is now not covered. The repairman from Simmons said it is a very expensive part. So we are now past $16,000.00 after only six years of owning the unit. If I could afford it I would send the Carrier back to the company and have a new TRANE unit installed. ALL I CAN SAY IS RUN. DO NOT THINK TWICE... DO NOT INSTALL A CARRIER SYSTEM.
I had a Carrier heat pump and air handler installed in 2017 (Comfort 25HCE418.1.5 ton... w/SEER 14.5; Carrier Performance fan coil w/variable speed DC blower). I had all the scheduled maintenance and now the evaporator coil leaked and I am being told it will cost $1425 to fix just for labor! What good is having a new system if it costs this much to fix? I was told by the tech that they had to replace these evaporator coils after one year! Even with the parts covered the labor is cost prohibitive. If these systems cannot be maintained even with regular maintenance, which was also expensive, then they must be defective! My heating and cooling bills were also huge and the thermostat had constant problems - going out, or not registering the correct temperature. You would think these companies would be concerned about their reputations. You would think that the certified dealers would also be concerned about the quality of these products. You would think there was some integrity in this business.
In 2006, two Carrier Infinity heat pump systems were installed in my house to the tune of $25,000. Since 2010 I have not gone a single year without having a significant repair bill for at least one of the units. From 2010 through 2017 my repair bills for the units have exceeded $10,000. The compressor has gone out twice in one system and the other unit was totally replaced under a service bulletin (still cost me $1284.00 even though they admitted it was crap). Ten months after warranty period ended the compressor went out again. They say nothing we can do. BEWARE!!! Stay away from Carrier, unless youve just got money to throw away.
In 2008 we installed three Zoned Carrier Infinity 95% AFUE furnaces with 16 SEER Heat Pump Coils/Condensers in our home. There are two 3-Ton systems and one 4-ton system. Two of the systems have Infinity Air Filters and all three have Carrier Humidifiers. There are a total of 10 zones on the system. In the last two years, I have installed two 4 Ton Carrier Infinity Dual Stage Furnaces with 16 SEER Heat Pump Coils/Condensers where I work. All five systems have performed great. We have had no warranty issues or non-warranty issues. The systems cool and heat as expected. All were installed by the same highly reputable contractor. I highly recommend Carrier units.
Moved into the new home in Dec 2012. By July 2014 had to have a capacitor replaced. Came home today and the entire unit is frozen. Was told by the serviceman that they were just notified by Carrier of bad modulators in the air handlers. $263 later (for labor), my question is... if Carrier knows of these bad modulators, why do I have to pay for labor to fix something that was wrong in the first place? Our prior unit (Trane) lasted OVER 20 years and in its lifetime we only had to have 3 repair calls (and all of them at the end of life of the unit). I will NEVER EVER buy another home if a Carrier is attached to it!!! I dont think a BRAND new home should have these issues and I should be able to have Carrier remove its unit and replace it with a brand that isnt going to nickle and dime me to death over the years!
I have 2 new Carrier system in a new built home and have had and continue to have several issues. I fully expected the builder and sub contractor to run for the hills but when I contacted Carrier, I did not expect them to just blow me off the way they did. I have been in the HVAC business for 30 years and never have had such poor customer support from a company. Carrier, unlike York and Trane, will apparently just sell their equipment to anyone. I thought Carrier to be one of the top 3 companies, but they sure changed that.
We installed a new expensive Carrier heat pump/AC system in 2002. Over 14 years we had to replace the Bristol compressor 10 times. Our HVAC service company and Carrier said we were the only ones who had this problem and they did not know why. All lies as I now know. The compressor failed again this year (2016) and the HVAC service company we use said they cant replace the Bristol compressor this time due to a lawsuit between Carrier and Bristol, so we had to replace our whole system. We would never install Carrier again. Carrier charges huge but gives you junk. If we hadnt taken out a $900 10-year labor charge warranty when we bought the system, we would have been out thousands of dollars to replace 10 compressors. Dont ever buy Carrier! They are no longer using Bristol compressors, but the substitute compressor brand they are now using is reputed to be just as bad.
I purchased a Carrier Infinity furnace in 2008 thinking that this furnace would last as long as my previous Lennox. My previous furnace lasted 18 years without any problems. Carrier instructed me that I had a 5 year parts warranty and does not include labor. I have just learned that Carrier offers a 10 year warranty on parts after 2008 and refuses to cover any cost of my repair. I have verbally stated that Carrier products are designed to fail just before 5 years are up and I seriously recommend that under any condition do not purchase any of their products ever. Their customer service is absolutely horrible and they like to hang up on many occasions. I wish I had never brought this piece of garbage.
Installed a Carrier HVAC in 2016 remodel. A year later the outside coil was leaking. Carrier agreed to replace the defective part, but not the labor costs. $1,000! This week A/C doesnt work and we find out a different coil is leaking. Another defective part that Carrier agrees to replace under warranty but not labor costs. In for another $500! This is absolutely unacceptable. My story is not different from many Ive read here. How do we go about initializing a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!
Just like 1800s. Beautiful heater for price and the scientific structure of craftsmanship a plus.
As a manager for a mechanical contractor it is very hard to look my customers in the face and tell them that the new heat pump we just installed doesnt work. This has happened 3 times in less than 90 days. One was short compressor mounting bolts from the factory and the refrigerant line broke during shipment. Carrier said it was a warranty issue. I say a factory defect! They wanted me to fix and not provide a replacement. Took a lot of my time 15 plus hours but they finally replaced. Today new unit had a bad transformer and would only heat. When switched to cool compressor would only run for 15 seconds and would shut off on high limit. Brand new unit needs a reversing valve.Again Carrier wants me to repair and not provide a replacement unit. Carrier corporate is useless in solving my issues as a contractor. I feel for the all the homeowners. Trane is 60 yards away from CARRIER GREAT LAKES, my local carrier distributor. I walked over to Trane and will be paying more for heat pumps and will have to pass on the cost to my customers, but at least they answer the phone without attitude and have handled all of our other problems with a smile. MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR COMPLAINT IN BEFORE THEY COMPLETE THEIR MOVE TO MEXICO.
In 2011 we purchased a dual fuel heat/air. By 2014 it was leaking. Replaced the evaporator, at the cost of $700 not including the Freon we had added to the system. Then by 2016 it was down. Freon again. This time condenser leaking. $200 for the Freon, another $84 to find the leak, and now 1$278 to replace the coil. We asked carrier to replace the whole heat pump as we must have a lemon and they sent info to product review, we thought they were considering helping with at least the labor costs if not a whole new unit. I called back after over 2 weeks of not hearing, and they said they would only replace the coil, because our unit is over 10 yrs old! HUH? Its been less than 5 yrs, and they said we didnt maintain it in over 10 yrs! HUH, hello carrier? 2016 from 2011 purchase date is 5 yrs. Yes, the unit is maintained but not by your service contract. No wonder All Temp Co. Heating and Air Conditioning of Harrisburg, NC sells these. They get a lot of work out of these inferior products, over and over again. Run as fast as you can and buy a Trane. Wish we had. Maybe carrier might move back from Mexico. I guess it doesnt matter where its made if they wont stand behind their product. I think after 2 major leaks we deserved more than their attitude and bad record-keeping.
I had my Carrier Heat Pump installed when we added on to our home back in 2009. I was told by my HVAC installer that the unit I was buying was energy efficient and came with a 10 year warranty. Today I was told by the installer that my blower motor was out and that it was under warranty. Later I was told that the 10 year warranty I was sold was not valid because I did not register it online within 90 days of the installation. We were never told by the installer that we needed to do this to have the warranty. In fact the page of information that was torn from the book and had the serial numbers on it does not even have any statement regarding the need to register the product within 90 days in order to obtain the 10 year warranty. Not even hidden in the fine print. Carrier instead requires the installer to make sure that the buyer knows that they need to register online. Both my wife and I work and we are not even sure if either of us were home when this work was completed as we had contractors working at the house. I took this all the way up to a Senior Person at Carrier. I was told by them nothing they can do, take it up with the installer. They will not allow you to go back and register your product. If this company is as good as the other installers that have posted say, then I would think that Carrier itself would allow the consumer to register the product retroactively, especially when the homeowner was not aware of the requirement. Im not even saying they should pay for the immediate service, my installer will take care of that because that falls on him, but to screw the homeowner out of the rest of the warranty shows a definite lack of support for their products. What happens now if my installer goes out of business or sells his business to someone else? I agree with the others on this blog who have wrote no Carrier ever again. I have an older Trane unit in the upstairs that has not given me one problem. I guarantee when that needs to be replaced, it wont be with a Carrier!
I have issues with Carrier Canada warranty. I have carrier furnace. The heat exchanger is broken and the furnace still under warranty. I called carrier. They give me dealers phone numbers. I called and they told me they cant fix. I have to go for new furnace. That happened with 3 different carrier dealers. I called carrier customer service 3 times. They told me that they will forward my case to the management and the management will call me. Now its 2 week no call. Now I have to buy a new furnace which will cost me $ 4520.
I built my home and had a Carrier heating and air system installed less than 5 years ago. I believed Carrier to be one of the best so it was worth the extra money. I was wrong. In the last 4 and a half years, I have had 9, yes 9, service calls on my system. I have had fans out of balance (one was so bad it would rattle the dishes on the countertop in the kitchen). The main units compressor locked up and had to be replaced. The main thermostat went out and had to be replaced. Theres a freon leak in the upstairs unit and freon has had to be added to both units 4 times. It leaked water condensation in the attic, and now I go to turn it on over the weekend and the downstairs unit blows warm air. It wont cool. It has cost me over $1,300 out of pocket for the things not covered under warranty. Some labor was not covered, some service calls were not covered and, who knew Id have to pay shipping to get replacement parts shipped to me and then pay shipping to have the faulty parts shipped back to Carrier??? What a ** way to do business. The installer, Love Heating and Air in Monroe, NC is worthless and horrible to deal with and now Im getting the runaround with Carrier Corp. Im done with Carrier and wish they would come and rip this crap out of my home. Ill buy the Trane instead or a box fan. At least, the box fan would work.
When the President moved to save Carrier jobs, I initially was pleased, as Carrier was the HVAC that came with our home. That system worked fine for 22-plus years and was not new when we moved in. Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! Its had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and its brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units. The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, weve suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought Id researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carriers old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now Im told by several techs that we should have gone with a Goodman. This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!
I have had a Carrier Infinity system for 10 years. Within 3 years the compressor went out. A few years later we had a freeze and the heat pump turned on the outside unit breaking the fan. Carrier refused to cover. A year ago the compressor went out again. Carrier was willing to cover the compressor under a 10 year warranty, but not labor. My contract stated parts and labor. They later, after much negotiation, agreed to replace the condenser (including compressor) for $2500 and would extend a new warranty for 10 years parts and labor. Now the unit dies and its a circuit board. After replacing the unit would not come on again. It took 7 hours on the phone between the tech and Carrier to get it running again. Carrier support was reading a manual to help the tech figure out the problem. Their service even to a technician is a joke. I will never own another Carrier.
Purchased new Carrier Infinity series (Infinity Heat pump, Infinity air handler, Infinity Air purifier, Infinity control Thermostat, UV bulbs) through Sears in 2006. After the Carrier five year warranty expired: 1) Infinity Thermostat LCD failed $700; 2) Air purifier electrostatic element failed $800; 3) Circuit board on heat pump failed $700. Ok, the last one was due to a gecko crawling into the unit in cold weather and short circuiting the board. But then again, why did Carrier make such an open-to-the elements panel on the outside unit for sensitive electronics that would allow critters to crawl in? Dont forget the costs of the air purifier filter element - $100+ yearly (But you get a year’s service out of it still 8x more expensive than a regular Filtrete on sale at a big box store) and UV bulbs that Carrier says should be replaced yearly ($150 plus per bulb - 2 required). But the biggest shock: Last fall I wanted to clean the heat pump units outside coil and discovered that the aluminum fins on the Puron (Freon) coils have pretty much oxidized and are deteriorating (crumbling to dust) ON AN 8 YEAR OLD UNIT! Now I read that Carrier makes a Coastal heat pump that is more corrosion-resistant from salt air. Wonder why? I am ticked at having paid $10k new system + $2200 to-date in repair costs to Carrier to be an unpaid beta tester for their new technology. And the beta tester gift just keeps on taking. To Infinity and beyond are my estimated future repair costs on this system.
Our unit is now 12 years old, the amount of repairs we have done to the unit, we could have replaced it with a quality Trane system three time over. A year into the system, our air handler developed a small leak losing Freon, under warranty, but labor with Custom Air of Florida cost over $700. Variable speed motor was replace three times costing us over $3000. Replaced capacitors every year at $200 a pop. Twice we had to have a leak fixed in the compressor coil, $1000 each time. Carrier is crap. Called them, told too bad in less words. We have a new Trane system going in this Tuesday with a heat pump, all labor and materials covered under warranty for 6K. Screw Carrier, go to Mexico, dont buy their junk.
Purchased a home Aug 2014 that was built in 2003. We have a total of 3 HVAC units. 1 Carrier upstairs and downstairs, both manufactured 2011 and 1 Goodman original to the house. The Carrier unit upstairs has a leaking coil inside. Estimate $1500 to replace. 6 years for a coil to go bad is terrible. I have read that Canada has a countrywide class action against Carrier for this very reason. Why not in the U.S.?
After 5 years my Payne heat pump unit is almost completely rusted away. Even though there is a 10-year warranty rust is not covered by them. Payne customer service said they couldnt help me but I could call their parent company who owns Payne, Carrier, and Bryant. Of course United Technologies ignored all attempts to contact them and obviously it is the protocol for these hvac manufactures to have someone call the corporate office because they know there will be no response. Bad product. Bad customer service.
I purchased a Carrier top of the line heat pump system in 11/2004. The compressor lasted almost 6 years. They replaced it with the same Bristol compressor knowing it was defective compressor but promised that if it went bad that they would replace it with a whole new unit at no cost to me. The new and improved unit has a Copeland scroll compressor which seems to be the industry standard. Well, guess what, 6 days out of warranty the second Bristol compressor goes out. It was dimming lights around the house a couple of months before it finally shorted out completely, but too late for me according to Carrier.
The HVAC system was installed, new, in March of 2015. It seems unreasonable that the evaporator coil should fail within three years, but it (and my neighbors) did after about three years. Sure parts are warranted, but the labor was excessive for the repair. Id look elsewhere for a good unit if you have the opportunity.
Carrier bought in 2006 has had over 18 service calls on heat pump. Never once fixed more than 3-4 months. Now has a coil leak in heat pump. $6640.00 quoted for new unit. $3700.00 quoted to replace coil. Never buy Carrier again. Carrier customer service could not care less. Out of warranty.
We have a Carrier furnace and a/c. It is currently 25 yrs old. It just needs a tune up every year. It runs well and is dependable. We are holding out as long as possible to replace it. It is unfortunate that machines don’t last like they used to. Fingers crossed we can maintain ours for a few more years.
My HVAC system from Carrier has worked well from the start and has never skipped a beat. It is the best system I’ve ever owned. And the price was affordable as well. And guess what - I work for Trane!
I have a Carrier-Payne A/C heat pump that was installed in a new construction in late 2005 or early 2006. I do not know the specific model number. Up until about 2 years ago, the unit ran problem-free. Since that time, I have had nothing but problems. The unit will quit heating/cooling without warning. The outside fan (not sure what its called) does not come on when the unit comes on and the compressor kicks out to prevent overheating. I can turn the unit off for a few hours and when I turn it back on, it runs fine for hours, days or weeks. It’s totally unpredictable. A technician will come out tomorrow for at least the 6th time. He has replaced a variety of electronic modules, the outside fan twice and added freon once, even though it was not critically low. He is at a loss on what to do next to try and fix it. Neither he nor I have called Carrier and after reading these posts, it would probably be a waste of time. I am paranoid about this unit and had to have someone house sit while I was on vacation just to keep a check on the A/C. Based on all of the compressor problems Ive read about, Im thinking that is the next thing to go out. I cant think of a compelling reason to replace this Carrier with another one.
Unfortunately, we were unaware of the horrible reviews and lack of customer service with Carrier. We have a brand new furnace, 6 months, and has been serviced 8 times in 6 months with 4 days without heat in the midwest. If this helps anyone else, do not buy a Carrier. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, DOES NOT BACK UP THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMER, ONLY JOB SECURITY FOR HEATING AND COOLING ON CARRIER FURNACES.
I waited on phone line (1-800-CARRIER) for 22 minutes. Then gave up and pressed “1” for call back. About 40 minutes later a young woman returned call. I explained that my local dealer told me that Carrier did not support Ecobee thermostats and I wanted to verify that information. She asked to put me brief hold. After a few minutes she returned to line and advised that I would need to contact Ecobee and she provided phone number. I asked if there was someone at Carrier I could speak with. She said no because they have “no technical support staff” in customer service.
The system is only three years old and so far running as expected. It is a heat pump system that supposedly saves on bills. But interesting the builder also gets a REBATE he does not pass along to the homeowner - probably the reason he pushed for a heat pump system.
I have had a Carrier air conditioner for over 35 years. I have added onto my house 25 years ago and increased my size by two good sized rooms. Still with the same size air conditioner. The only problem Ive had was replacing fan motor about 6 years ago. The old unit still runs and cools and am quite pleased with its reliability. I am now at a point to see how long it will last. Have read some bad reviews of modern carriers and wanting to see if other homeowners have had same great service with newer models and would recommend a carrier again. Thanks.
April 2008 installed high end Carrier dual (electrical/gas) system (furnace/heat pump/AC) system with Carrier Infinity Thermostat. The thermostat failed July 2013; replacement around $1100 (with maintenance plan discount). Gathered from technicians comments that problems with the Infinity device are not uncommon. For the cost of same, high quality should be expected. Perhaps unwise then for potentially purchasers to tie themselves into Carrier products that require such an expensive and fragile/poorly design controller.
This unit was purchased 2/10/2015, 5 years parts warranty, Model 48ES-A2406030TP. This unit was problem child soon after install, kicking into lockout mode, igniter failing to light, AC part did fine was furnace part constant trouble, numerous service calls, exhaust inducer fail, high temp sensor fails. I quit using installer because failed again in less than 10 minutes after driving out the driveway, got ahold of another service company, they found high temp sensor bad kicking off furnace before satisfying thermostat, got that repaired, next thing started periodic igniter fail or repeated attempt to light kick into lock out mode again. This would not fail when service man present, told me to wait till completely fail, find problem them, month later total fail. The service company owner came out this time, found no electricity, the junction block for wiring some screws loose likely from defective assembly, yup assembled in Mexico, Once that got locked down, ignited immediately, inducer motor quieter, blower quieter, was lacking enough electric all along. Runs like should. Point is I am out hundreds of dollars on a unit under warranty, I have contacted United Technology to see if they will reimburse for defective assembly, that is not excluded under their warranty. Submitted claim today, will see what they do about this, I will follow up with the outcome of this when I hear from them, I had previous Carrier lasted 20 plus years, cracked exchanger at 20 was still running, Why I bought another, this one with new controls been a nightmare, the faulty assembly my opinion caused all the trouble all along.
I purchased my home brand new. The very 1st year had problems with HVAC unit all told every year for the past 7 yrs Ive owned this home I have had to have repairs done to unit. Why is there no accountability from the company for such poor work.
Rvery time something fails it takes 2 to 5 bus days for parts. Going on 4 days waiting for condenser grill. Why does your warranty cost consumer labor. Check auto warranties, no labor. Very disappointed in Carrier system.
Lakewood Furnace, Lakewood, Ohio & Carrier Greenspeed Heat Pump. Carrier is Awful. Stay away. So bad, it’s criminal. Installed a very expensive top of the line Carrier heat pump - it was defective from day one. No air flow or humidity control. Carrier, as well as, the Authorized Carrier Dealer/Owner and techs could care less to help or troubleshoot in any way - they dont respond to emails or letters or calls. This is a very bad company. I have spent over 60 days so far trying to get this heat pump fixed. The dealer/owner is a walk away guy - wants to install pricey equipment and if anything goes wrong threatens you with lawsuit to pay. I have never, ever, experienced such a bad company and bad people. One tech said, You can call me 100 times but Im not gonna fix your heat pump. And just buy floor fans. That should work. Unreal - spare yourself this stress and use a reputable company. After calling, writing, emailing everyday for over 60 days, corporate Carrier has been of no help to me and the local dealer/installer is worse. Carrier only cares about sales and protects its rogue dealers - customers mean nothing. My home is being damaged everyday - no cooling, no heat, high humidity (mold) and no airflow or ventilation. 60 days of no action, I worry about when winter comes with no heat.
I am not one to complain about anything but Carrier is off the charts bad as far as customer service and warranties. I will say that the actual customer service reps were polite and professional. I had zero issues with the way they treated me but the message was poor. I will try to keep this as short as possible. We purchased a 3.5 year old home last year. The previous owner almost never used the AC. He figured that they ran it maybe 3 weeks total in the 3 years they had the home. We purchased mid summer and ran it sparingly last year. This spring we had to have it charged and again 6 weeks later. Another month later it was out of refrigerant again. They came in with a sniffing tool and found a leak in the evaporator coil. We had $500 into service calls at this point. I was told that it was manufactured on Aug 19th, 2011. I called in Monday August 22nd, 2016 and was basically told that I was out of luck because the warranty ran out on Friday. The fact was that it was not installed until October 20th, 2011 but no one could produce the original receipt. The original owner, original builder, original HVAC installer and current HVAC company all offered to call in or write up letters detailing the issue but I was told an original receipt was my only option. I would not recommend or ever use Carrier again. The repair cost me $1400 to go along with $500 in service calls and time off work. Poor quality and VERY VERY poor customer service. I would have been happy if they would have just warrantied the unit. I completely understand that labor is not something anyone would cover.
Installed new Bryant heat pump unit and Carrier unit 7 years ago. The large print communicates a 10 warranty on parts and labor, finer print says 5 yrs unless registered within 90 days, not sure what providing and name and phone number has to do with adding another 5 years - needless to say, bad on me for not reading the finer print and registering. On my second (third if you count the original) heat pump fan motor. 1st covered under the 5 year warranty, second $800 plus was not.Now my blower fan on the Carrier unit is gone. Again no luck with Carrier on honoring or at least part of the $1280 cost to replace the unit. They were unwavering on their position that because I did not register that they would not honor the same warranty they would have to in one of the three states that have laws covering such warranty conditions. Between differing house I’ve installed three new higher-end Carrier ac-heating systems. Never again.
Despite the inverter unit being sold to me as a cost saver, this is clearly not the case. The circuit boards are poor quality and do not last 5 years. Replacement boards cost the price of a new regular air conditioner. No-one advises you that you need to perform rust prevention, this prevention, that prevention when you have it installed, but when it goes wrong they are sure to let you know. I will never again waste my hard earned money on a Carrier aircon, nor an inverter unit. A regular, modern unit consumes roughly the same power as an average fridge/freezer. The cost to maintain an inverter unit is ridiculous.
I have a Carrier infinity 3-ton variable speed unit that is less than 2-year-old. The unit sweats when the air conditioner is running and is causing massive mildew/mold within the closet the downstairs unit is located. The Rep from New Orleans has been twice and said unit is working fine and closet needs insulated better. Had another HVAC come look and he said the unit should not sweat like this at all and the temp in closet was 73 degrees so no huge temp difference. I live in MS and temp and humidity are extremely high right now. Has anyone had these issues?
My 2 year-old Carrier Infinity Heat Pump stopped functioning. When my dealer came to investigate, he found that the evaporator on the heat coil of my Carrier furnace (also installed 2 years ago) had micro leaks. That alone cost me $420. To replace and the defective part and refill the heat-pump (they had to empty it for safety reasons), I would need to cough up $600. The part is guaranteed but labor not! So a defective part from Carrier is costing me over $1000 in labor to fix. I called Carrier and the only thing they can tell me is to pay the bill and send a copy to they review board to see what they can do. I could understand paying a big bill if my system exceeds 10-15 years, but just after 2 years? I need help here.
Had a new Carrier furnace and A/C installed in August 2013. It totally worked fine until last summer. After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. The tech told me that it is not covered under warranty. So they will continue to put Freon in until it goes out of warranty in August then it is all on me. A wasted 9k. Never ever buy or recommend Carrier products to anyone.
Our Infinity series 25 heat pump was installed in 2006 and we had a 10-year parts and labor warranty included at that time. We have the system checked twice each year and things have worked well until recently. On our last bi-annual service call (January 24 this year), the outdoor temperature sender unit was determined to be bad and was replaced at no charge. Then three days ago, we received a system malfunction notice on our indoor thermostat so I called our service company and they were slammed, so we set up an appointment for today. The tech came out, spent an hour checking the system and determined the compressor is failing causing the thermal lockout conditions which were recurring on a regular basis (it is a Bristol compressor). He called their carrier supplier while he was here, went through the problems and trouble codes with them on the phone and then received the okay to replace the unit. There will be no charge to us due to the 10-year service agreement. I told him that I had read about the problems with the Bristol compressors and he said he was aware of the problems as well. He said they had a great supplier to work with and had some problems initially but no longer have them with respect to getting warranty replacements when they properly document the issues involved and the warranty is in effect. Apollo is our contractor here in Kennewick, Washington and theyve done a good job and have the right relationships with the manufacturer and vendors to get things done.
After reading all the reports on the Carrier heat pump failures and quality control issues I needed to add my story to the list. I thought I was the only one to have to replace the compressor and circuit control boards and too many service call to remember. I bought the system in 2005. Compressor went out under the ten year time span. Replaced by installer but like everyone else not the freon or labor. If there is a class action lawsuit Id sure like to join in on it. Anyone involved can contact me at any time. Latest problem is in the zone control board. I am still dealing with this issue at present.
I too bought a Carrier 3.5 ton split system a/c for my home in May of 2008. During the first year the installer would fix all the minor problems as they popped up, no out of pocket expenses. The 2nd year it started getting expensive. Refrigerant leaks, fan motors quitting, coils leaking and needing to be replaced, drip pan cracking and leaking, pounds of Puron added, startup capacitor replaced three times, and today 2.5 pounds of Puron. The only thing that hasnt quit yet is the compressor. I have spent a great sum of money from the yearly fix up. Carrier is undependable and expensive. My buddy had similar problems with his carrier. He installed his in 2007. After the 4th year of breaking down, he called a Trane dealer and had a unit installed. Up till now never a repair. He said for me to save my money and switch to TRANE.
I purchased my unit in 2007 and thru the company I bought it from, have a 15 yr parts and labor warranty. I have the Infinity thermostat and 3 ton unit heat pump and Infinity air handler. Ran okay for the first year or so but fast forward to today... Heres a rundown of the repairs on this unit. Ive had 7+ system malfunctions, many of them with multiple codes. The primary code is always 45. Ive had the air handler circuit board replaced 3 times - 3/2009 12/,2011, 9/2014 and a 4th one effective today due to the total shut down (8/2015) of entire system. Ive had the heat pump circuit board replaced also 9/2014, coils replaced 2/2014, and new wiring harness 10/2014. Ive been told that Carrier will eventually stop warranting the circuit boards. As everyone else, someone needs to be home when this service is done so taking time from work to be home for every repair can be very tough and expensive for someone whose company doesnt allow them or cant have them work from home. Im fortunate but in the long run Carrier should be doing something to recognize the problems their system has and make it right. My service company is great but eventually this will start to get very costly. Im done with Carrier and will be contacting the company I purchased it from regarding the lemon law. This just cant go on...
My residence air conditioner was leaking water under the furnace combination. The air conditioner tech diagnosed the pan leaking after checking for the freon pressure. I said why can I not patch the pan. He showed me how to access the evaporator coil and pan on the gas force air furnace by removing a panel on the rear near the evaporator coil. I have a Carrier AC.I looked hard for the source of the water as the pan was not leaking when I poured water on the pan, and the water was properly draining. The evaporator coil can slide out of the furnace housing, but one needs a platform to rest the coil to prevent kinking of the lines (very important as freon will leak, if not careful). I finally saw about two inches of dust/dirt at the top of the evaporator coil and surmised that this dirt was preventing the evaporated water from draining properly. After cleaning the evaporator coil, the AC seem to work, but the outside temperature was not hot enough to really test the AC.Another process was required, get some coil solvent from Home Depot and spray it on the coil. Be sure to get the ones that evaporate by themselves not require rinsing. I sprayed water on the coils after the foam went away just to be sure. Theoretically, the evaporated water will wash the solvent away when the AC is operating. Anyway, for a mechanically inclined person saving $5k to $6K using the above is worth a try! Or, you try talking the tech into looking at the coil itself and doing the cleaning for a few hundred dollars to pay for his time.
When I bought Carrier I bought 3 tons heat pumps. Carrier decided to change their world class heat pump for a “shell” pump on my models, which I had 12 visits in two years, they covered in warranty one heat pump, and installed the original old style. Now I have 2 pumps not work, and 3 ($1000) thermostats out-of-warranty. This purchase was horrible, all the carrier dealers stat oh... you bought that year... youre screwed.
Our Carrier heat pump system was so quiet. The only way we knew it was on was the cool air filling the room. Although the Carrier system is more costly than other systems, it makes up the cost with efficiency. Our electric bill came down drastically after replacing our dinosaur.
I built a new home within early 2012 in South Carolina and installed three 2 ton Carrier heat pump systems and one 3 ton system. (4 systems in all) In 2015 the first copper coil developed a leak due to formicary corrosion (supposedly a reaction with my foam insulation) and the other 3 all followed by mid 2017 and were replaced by aluminum coils. (Warranty) Supposedly the aluminum would not react with the foam insulation. However, an aluminum coil installed in 2016 has now failed/leaked due to the same issue. The aluminum coils are only warranted for one year so now I am faced with replacing the whole air handler in order to get a 10 year warranty since replacing the coil costs almost the same amount with only a one year warranty. I understand the same issue is rampant in the industry so I do not understand how any company can survive by providing a product they know is destined for early failure. I have heard that tin plating solves the issue but I also heard that aluminum solved the issue. Obviously, I am disgusted with Carrier but do not know how to force them to upfront with the issue and take care of their customers.
I should have known better not to purchase a Carrier heat pump when Carrier doesnt do site visits like Trane. My Carrier heat pump had a service recall on the thermostat the first month, no notification. My coil now has a service recall because of a manufacturing defect, no service recall notification or call. It add insult to injury, they will not allow me to use my Cool Cash Rebate of $250 and I have to pay for the coil to be installed. They cant even tell me how long it takes to install the coil. The deal is telling me 4 to 5 hours at $110 and another hour to determine the problem to begin which should have been automatic because of the service recall issue. There is no customer service and the Carrier is a piss poor product and the guarantee of 10 years is a joke!
We purchased a Carrier air conditioner and furnace through a dealer called Weather King 8 years ago. We thought Carrier was a quality company. The unit seemed to function well for a while. We live in Ohio and only use the air about 6-8 times a year, so we were surprised when the unit kept running and not cooling last fall. We contacted the dealer and paid $79 for a service call. We were told there was a loss of Freon and to schedule a visit in the spring. We did so, and were charged almost $500 more with no repair. We were told the coil was bad and told to contact Carrier. The Carrier rep was very curt and refused to help. She said that even though we registered the unit, the warranty was good for only 5 years. We have since learned from professionals that the defective Carrier coils are an industry wide problem and that a class action suit may be filed soon. We feel Carrier is deceptive in their practices and would advise readers to STOP BUYING CARRIER.
Purchased CARRIER ocean environment, 17.5 SEER Heat Pumps and air handlers for new home. During annual maintenance of my 4 systems, it was determined that one subject unit had leaked all refrigerant. Had to refill at a cost of $550. Maintenance company ordered a new coil under warranty. It took 5 weeks to deliver. Another $500 of refrigerant and $700 in labor was required to make the repair. CARRIER had a known problem with the coils. The lack of stock and the long fulfillment time are logically related. Several false ship promises further belie this contention. Carrier should have made me whole for all expenses. They did not exhibiting lack of concern for the customer and their brand.
Six years ago purchased from Sears a new Carrier Infinity which cost $8,000.00. I thought that buying the supposed best system in the market & from a company like Sears I was making a wise decision. This was my first mistake. Yesterday March 15, just few month short on the six birthday of my very expensive Carrier & after expending the last 4 month $1,300 on repairs, I finally decided to end my nightmare & install a regular air conditioner, no frills just cool air.If you have a lot of money to throw away then buy a Carrier Infinity. If you want to be happy & save money on the long run please dont even think on buying a Carrier Infinity. The company who installed my new air, they told me that they see exactly what happened to me very very often. Look around & you will see Im not alone.
We have the Infinity Greenspeed heat pump and ac combo. AC not excessively noisy but oh boy the heat pump outside is horrible. Any time the outside temp gets close to 32f and below, the unit is louder than a mack truck. And unfortunately its outside my bedroom window, so sleep is not possible when its running and it runs constantly. It still heats the house ok, just too noisy. Ive had installed and 2 heating cos check it and they say its normal and wont do anything since unit is producing heat. Called Carrier and getting the run around. Called several times and they cant give me a status and never call back. Horrible. Spent over $10k about 3 years ago and its been horrible ever since and no end in sight. NEVER CARRIER AGAIN!!!!!
In 2009, I replaced two old 7 SEER and 9 SEER units with brand new high-efficiency Carrier units. Luckily, I had a friend who sold me and installed two new units for $11K. One local HVAC company asked me $22K and another asked me $15K for the same models. Thank God I didnt have $22K tied up in the mess that I bought. The downstairs unit is saving us right now. I have a box fan propped up blowing cool air upstairs, where my INFINITY SPLIT UNIT has become a piece of crap apparently. The coil was rusty and leaking freon; freezing up. I have huge water spots on my ceiling where water has overflown the drip pan, which suggest to me the float switch isnt any good either. The upstairs thermostat earlier this week registered 86 degrees. The unit was blowing but not cooling. On Saturday morning, my friend sent his brother-in-law to replace the coil in the attic. The brother-in-law told me that the air coming out of the vents should be upper 40s and at least low 50s. With a meat thermometer, he and I checked the temp for approx 30 minutes and it never dropped below 60 degrees. He said that it would cool on down after it ran for a while. It never has and after it cools for a while the air coming from vents is between 70 and 75 degrees. Today, one day after replacing the coil and with thermostat set at 70 degrees, the temp at mid-day was 79 degrees. I keep asking myself if its worth $450 to lower the temp by 7 degrees. How would you feel? Last night and all day today, I have tried probably 25 times to call and text my friend that installed the unit and sent his brother-in-law to do the dirty work and collect money. He has not replied. I dont want to criticize my downstairs unit because, like I said, it is saving us right now. However, we have had to have service calls for it two or three time during winters because it wasnt heating. Ideally, with these Carrier units, we need cold air to rise and warm air to fall and wed be fine. Doesnt work that way, huh? If you are reading this and you are about to buy a new unit for your home, please take my advice and the advice of many others below and steer clear of Carrier products. Im far from an HVAC expert, so I cant make a recommendation on which brand to buy. The only thing I can offer is to save yourself some grief and headaches and DO NOT BUY CARRIER!!!
RUN AWAY! I always trusted in the brand, however, when I needed help from Carrier, they dont want to deal with their certified providers. I purchased an Air Handler and a Condenser from two providers listed on the Carrier website to solving my cooling problem. The issue was not solved, and now they want to sell me another HVAC system more powerful. They will not give me any discount for the product that I just bought and have less than 2 months of usage. Honestly, it is a joke, they want to sell more and more equipment without caring about customer satisfaction. Very disappointed with Carrier.
In less than three years of installing a new heat pump, we have had the upstairs computer board replaced, the outside capacitor unit and the upstairs blower motor. I have a case # given to me from Carrier for the concern of the unit. Of course, they say they havent had any complaints for these particular parts not lasting. According to all of the concerns I see from the reviews, I beg to differ. They have told me they will send a Carrier representative to us to have our unit evaluated if we have another problem as all things have been the inner electrical or computer parts. I have had no concern with our installer... just not happy with the product. I feel like spitting bullets.
I am satisfied. I hoped for a little more efficiency, since I was replacing a 40 year old unit. It does provide very steady heat and have had no issues so far.
Being a dedicated Carrier dealer, technician and installer for over 20 years in SE Texas, I am sympathetic to all of the unhappy customers who have written reviews. However, just from reading the situations, I believe that the problem lies not in the equipment but in the so called installers and service techs. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of reputable Carrier dealers in any given state. I have personally went behind some of these service companies and have seen the type of installation or service that was performed. To a Factory trained technician, the remedies are often relatively easy and inexpensive to repair. The fault lies not in Carrier equipment, but in the local distributors who willingly sell Carrier equipment to any Jack leg moron who knows how to operate a thermostat. Carrier should monitor their distributorships more closely and see what companies are buying equipment and how many of these are having issues with Carrier junk. Carrier is and will remain a world leader in the HVAC industry, but like everything else, the product is only as good as the person installing or servicing it. Look really closely at your contractor before you blame Carrier. There is not one manufacturer out there who is going to cover a bad install under ANY kind of warranty.
I have several Carrier and Payne HVAC systems in several houses. I had 2 very simple technical questions regarding their thermostat. (Can the unit humidifier be set to greater than 45? and Where is the humidity sensor?) Called Customer Service looking for Tech Support line... no tech support line, they know nothing, suggested I call local Carrier dealers, i.e. local contractors. I did, they had no idea why Carrier would refer me to them. They dont offer tech support (as they shouldnt). I called back Carrier, went to Level 2 customer service... same BS, unbelievable... no more Carrier products.
We wanted air conditioning, and were told that we needed to buy a new furnace unit combination, so we bought a Carrier. It was 14 years ago, and we have had to have repairs done to this thing, every single year. I will never buy another Carrier product as long as I live. The original furnace was 20 years old, and had only been serviced twice in that time. This is a rental, and in our own home, we have a 37 year old furnace that has been serviced once. Neither one of these furnaces were Carriers. Never buy a furnace with a circuit board. They do not last more than a year. It costs more than $200 every time you get it repaired.
I was a previous owner of a Carrier Gas Pack HVAC unit when in 2009 we decided to remodel our home. Since the HVAC system was 13 years old we decided to upgrade (??) to the Carrier Infinity Gas Pack. This system has been a nightmare. The 10 year warranty ran out because the registration did not get completed when in 90 days of purchase so that became 5 years. The original purchase of the unit was $6200.00 and since 2009 I have incurred over $4000.00 in parts and labor for circuit board, burners, induction motors and refrigerant. I now am told that I need another circuit board $1100.00 which is not under warranty and the unit is 9 years old. I am sorry that this company has a poor CSI but I will not purchase any more of their equipment. Unfortunately I really like the company that I use to service this piece of junk.
Brand new unit installed by Carrier Dealer. Installed new outside AC condenser and new inside Air Handling Unit with electric heat in 2nd floor wall pocket as a complete package. Within a month, the bracket assemblies holding the evaporator coil are rusting and there is excess water always in the drain pan. Installer blames it on the design and components of the System and why worry, parts have a 10-year warranty. When got Carrier Rep on phone he said same thing! By the way, factory doesnt cover rust and installers labor warranty only good for one year. I am stuck with subpar parts and poor installation. Shouldnt have paid in a timely manner.
I replaced 4 or 5 of my a/c units in my home in Playa Del Carmen with Carrier because I thought I was getting a superior product. I was totally wrong. These units have lasted less time than my cheaper Chinese units at half the cost. One unit has had a control board failure twice in one year and the unit is less than a year and a half old! And of course the Carrier dealer in Cancun warranties nothing. So, needless to say, I am never buying Carrier again.
Well its that time of year again when the old AC unit that is only 5 years old fails. You would think spending 6K on a new name brand ac unit would last a few years at least. Once installed the unit lasted about 13 months and the coil leaked inside the house. A new one was installed and Puron re-added and all good, maybe a one off defect right? 4 years later same thing, now the HVAC guys all say its the fact they used copper and aluminum coils with high pressure Puron, a known failure waiting to happen. The new coil I have coming this week is all aluminum, and it covered under warranty still! But not the 2K plus cost for dyte, Puron, then replacement and yes more Puron! Calling Carrier is a joke, you get top level support that says I need to send an email to the review board. Buy some cheap Chinese AC unit. It will last longer or at least as long.
Since our Carrier air conditioner was installed in 2013 we have had to have the coolant replaced in it every year. We are told we most likely have a small leak but that these leaks are very difficult to find. Almost $300 again this year. If I want to pay to have them find the leak and then flush the system and replace the coolant the cost will be another $1000. Sorry to say we are very disappointed with this expensive purchase with which we have no recourse.
Carrier heat pump problems cooling issues. Too mad to write about it. Unit less than 2 years old and broken down already. I want to join with Melanie from VA in a class action lawsuit.
We have replaced 25 year old Carrier furnace with a new one back in 2015. The installation was executed by an approved dealer from Carrier. Only a few months on, the blower fan failed a first time, then a second time in 2016, a third time in 2018 and again in May 2019. Now the Carrier approved dealer company that has serviced our equipment since 2016 is recommending that we replaced the entire unit. Carrier is refusing to provide their assistance nor to replace the unit under the motive that the installation is to blame. Interestingly enough, this new unit installation is identical to the previous one that was also a Carrier furnace. Weve had only bad experiences with this company. I would not recommend it to my best enemy. ;0
We purchased ours give or take 8 years ago. It was best deal in our price range and for size wise in comparison to the square footage of our home. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or replace their existing one.
Module failed on model #FV4BNB006. I called an HVAC company. Carrier said the unit was warrantied for 5 years at the time this was purchased, although now the same exact unit is warrantied for 10 years. Sure enough, without knowing the exact date of install, Carrier claims the unit is out of warranty as of November of 2012. They dont care that the same unit now currently has a warranty of 10 years (new policy as of 2009); that the unit should not have failed 5 years prematurely; and that we, at the time we called, were only 3 months over the 5-year warranty. I spoke with a supervisor Jamie at customer relations. She was curt, only would repeat their policy and could care less about the situation of the same exact unit being warrantied for 10 years now. She didnt even know what the part was nor considered that it should not have failed at least 5 years premature! Oddly enough, there was another person listening into our conversation (another supervisor, Diane ID #**). She just came on the line without identifying herself and interrupted our conversation to say they would do absolutely nothing nor consider helping. Not only did I find this company absolutely uninterested in doing what is right, you could tell they were trained to do exactly the opposite. The way they operate, having big brother ready to chime in when they can to deny a claim, was downright creepy! Do yourself a favor. Look at all these miserable reviews of this awful company and steer clear of them. I have never written a review of a company before, but if theres one person I can help by reading this, its worth it. Carrier, you truly are an awful company and should be ashamed!
We recently installed a Carrier split type inverter gold series air conditioner and we did not regret anything about it. Yes, it cost us more than buying a regular window type air conditioner but because this Carrier split type has the inverter technology, it is more energy efficient therefore lower electric bills for us. It also cools the room faster and it is very quiet. You dont even know its already on because it doesnt create one sound. It also comes with a remote control that is very easy to use. And true enough, weve noticed that our electric bills have become lower the past few months that weve started using this Carrier split type air conditioner.
We had a new Carrier 4 ton Heat Pump & Air Handler installed in a 2000 sf one level home in May of 2007 at a cost of $14,700. April 2009, the unit was not working due to a failed control board in the air handler. Part was replaced under warranty, however, the labor and trip charge was $187.00. January 2011 - No Heat Removed and replace failed compressor on system under warranty. Labor to replace their faulty compressor $480. June-July 2014, removed and replaced failed compressor again in heat pump. Recovered old freon, pulled vacuum, charged to specs. Also removed and replaced starting components on compressor. Total bill $1745.00. February 2015, removed and replaced failed air handler circuit board and heat relays and boards to air handler. No longer under warranty. Total bill $1016.00. I have a note from the service tech, If heat pump compressor breaks again by May 2016, Carrier will replace with new unit.
I am a Mechanical Contractor in Detroit area. I have installed many Infinity Systems (We stopped selling them in 2012 because of all of the problems!). My own house I built in 2009 has three systems, has had 5 compressors replaced, 4 contractors, 3 controls and one complete condensing unit in 2015 which now does not work and my house is 81 degrees! INFINITY means as long as you have it you will have aggravation. It is junk. I live right on Long Lake Rd in Bloomfield Hills and on June 26th I will remove all Infinity equipment and replace with Trane. I will put all three furnaces and condensing units on the main road with a 12 foot banner which reads, This is the kind of junk to expect of Infinity equipment. Come by and check it out ** just east of Telegraph!!!
We have been in our house for 2 years and everything has been working well, both the heat and the air conditioner. The size that was recommended is perfect for the size of our house. It was installed in a good location at the side of the house about a foot above the ground on a gravel pad.
Saved to purchase new heat and AC. Bought July 2018. So excited...finally not having to call and have our old heater fixed regularly (GOODMAN). At first it was so quiet, then one month later it is noisier. Okay were fine with it just nice to have air. Now our troubles begin...HEAT. When we put the heat on for the first time, you have a smell, normal, especially after sitting for a few months, not in use. Our rec. room is downstairs as well is our office. We can smell a chemical/chlorine, gassy smell. Way ahead of you. Called gas company, called installer and checked my monoxide detector. NOTHING. No leaks, they found no odor. Everything is running top notch and fine. Okay, now. We sound crazy but at night, there is a smell of gassy, chlorine, chemical.I looked online to see if others had this problem and they do... I called Carrier and they offered no solution or tell us what it may be. It is Jan. 24th 2019 and I am typing this review with a smell of gas, chlorine in the air. I feel sick to my stomach and have a headache. We get a sleepy feeling when we shouldnt be tired. We are extremely MAD that this is happening. We have monoxide, gas detectors on all floors, one right next to the unit. We checked this so often, we have a new hobby. Sickening... I wish we never bought this and I wanted my old Goodman back.
I bought my Carrier HVAC unit in 2003, now it is 2020. I am very pleased with Carrier's HVAC unit. Over the years it is required maintenance such as, replacing some parts usually costing around $750 to $1500. I weighed the maintenance costs with buying a new one for around $6000. But seems to be working good with the maintenance that I have done.
We got a new HVAC system in 2009, 11 years ago. It was Carriers top of the line furnace and central air conditioner at the time. It was the Infinity System. Quite expensive to say the least. Well, fast forward 11 years (to 2020). The Carrier central air conditioners condenser apparently went out. The company who installed it (In 2009) came out to diagnose a grinding sound I heard coming from the unit. Guess what?! Yep, you guessed it! My entire central air conditioner would need replaced due to the condenser failing!I know a couple family members whove had their central air conditioners for over 30 years, and theyre still in working order. If this new efficient HVAC equipment cant hold up for at least 20 years, doesnt that outweigh any efficiency improvements you got out of them?! In my opinion, not only are you out of an expensive unit, but for environmental purposes- it would be better to have a less efficient system last 30 years than a more efficient system last 10! Why? Because the materials to make it end up in a landfill 3 times sooner than the old style air conditioners! If I had known this Carrier AC would have only lasted 11 years, I would have went with a less expensive brand! Whats the point paying nearly twice as much, potentially, only to have your unit completely fail 10-11 years later! PS: I recently went out and bought a new window AC. I couldnt afford to spring for a new central AC, nor had any desire after that experience!
Im the same person who contributed the complaint below. I am obliged to state that in the end, three days later, Carrier authorized the complete replacement of the outdoor unit, which is worth several thousand dollars. However, Carrier is wiping their hands of it from this point forward. In other words, no warranty. I will also have to pay the labor and supply cost of over $900 and that is with the labor being significantly discounted by my HVAC company. I am very pleased that Carrier finally authorized this replacement. Hopefully, the new 4-ton Carrier Infinity heat pump will perform as well as the 2-ton Infinity heat pump that conditions the first floor of our house.
