Air Conditioner Repair

Daikin manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Daikin appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Air conditioning operation stops unexpectedly, and filter cleaning operation starts. (Then, the air conditioning operation restarts.)
When the auto filter cleaning setting is ON (default), the air conditioning operation stops after 24 hours of air conditioning operation (cooling mode, dehumidifying mode, heating mode, air purifying mode, or ventilation mode) to activate the automatic filter cleaning operation. After the cleaning operation is complete, the air conditioning operation resumes.

Filter cleaning operation does not stop.
The air filter is returning to normal position. Please wait for about 1 to 3 minutes.

The air conditioner continues to operate even when the dehumidifying, dry cooling, or cooling operation is turned off.
Check if the mould proof automatic setting is set to ON. If the setting is ON, mould proof operation is activated after dehumidifying, dry cooling, or cooling operation stops.

The indoor unit produces an abnormal noise during operation.
Stop operation, unplug the power cord or turn off the circuit breaker, and contact the place of purchase.

A clicking sound is produced.
A clicking sound may be produced when the refrigerant control valve or electric component operates.

A buzzing sound is produced.
A buzzing sound may be produced when the flap moves.

A rattling/creaking sound is produced.
A rattling/creaking sound may be produced when the flap position is adjusted during operation startup or stopping.

A bubbling sound is produced.
When the room is completely closed and the ventilation fan is operating or when strong winds are blowing outside, outdoor air can enter the drain hose and cause a bubbling sound. This phenomenon tends to occur in a well-sealed house or apartment.

A soft rumbling sound is produced.
Check if the unit is operating in ventilation (fan) mode. The unit can produce a soft rumbling sound when it is operating in ventilation (fan) mode.

A strange sound is produced during humidifying or ventilation operation.
Hissing sound. The hissing sound is caused by the discharge of humidified or ventilated air. A different sound may be produced depending on the outdoor temperature or humidity.
Bubbling sound. The bubbling sound comes from inside of the humidifying hose. When the outside humidity is low, manual mould proof operation may improve the situation. If that does not produce any improvement, contact place of purchase.

A strange sound is produced during humidifying operation.
The sound is produced when the humidifying fan starts or stops operating.
Sound generated outside may be transmitted to the air conditioner unit.

A hissing or crackling sound is produced.
The hissing or crackling sound is produced by Streamer discharge. It does not denote a malfunction.

Abnormal noise is produced during filter cleaning operation.
Stop operation, unplug the power cord or turn off the circuit breaker, and contact the place of purchase.

The air filter gets stuck or produces a large sound during filter cleaning operation.
Check if the air filter is deformed. If so, contact the place of purchase.
Check if the air filter, photocatalytic air purifying/deodorizing filter and dust box are installed correctly.

The indoor unit produces a sound after humidifying operation stops.
After humidifying operation stops, the humidifying fan continues operating for about 3 minutes to prevent equipment damage.

There is a burnt odor from the air conditioner.
Stop operation, unplug the power cord or turn off the circuit breaker, and contact the place of purchase.

The air conditioner emits an unpleasant odor.
The indoor unit sometimes discharges the room odor remaining inside the unit.
Since a very small amount of ozone is generated during the Streamer air purifying operation, you may notice some odor at the air outlet. The amount of discharged ozone is extremely small and causes no health hazards.
If mould proof operation is performed and there is an increase in humidity, this may produce an odor.

Can an ordinary cleaning spray available in a store be used to clean the inside of the air conditioner?
Do not use a commercial cleaning agent. Commercial cleaners may cause adverse effects on the resin parts of the heat exchanger or other internal components. In the worst case, problems such as water leaks can occur.

What should I do when I will not use the air conditioner for an extended period of time?
(1) Operate the air conditioner in mould proof operation on a sunny day to let the inside of the unit dry thoroughly.
(2) After the cleaning operation stops, unplug the power cord or turn off the dedicated circuit breaker for the air conditioner.
(3) Remove the batteries from the remote controller.

How often should I clean the air filters?
We recommend cleaning the air filters every 2 weeks. Wash the filters with water or clean them with a vacuum cleaner. (See the manual for details.) For heavy soiling, wash the filters with a neutral detergent diluted with tepid water and let the filters dry in a shady place.

I lost the remote controller. Can I use the air conditioner without it?
Operation can be started by pressing the "ON/OFF" button on the main unit. In this case, operation mode and fan speed are set to "automatic."

The remote controller display is not clear, and the remote controller does not work well.
The batteries are running low. Replace both batteries (2) with new ones. Estimated life for replacement battery is about 1 year. Use alkaline batteries.

The remote controller display is always illuminated. Can I turn it off?
The display on the remote controller cannot be turned off.

When the remote controller is operated, it also causes other electric products, such as the TV, to operate.
If other electric products operate when the remote controller is used, move those products farther away from the remote controller or contact the place of purchase.

The indoor unit does not receive remote controller signals, or its signal sensitivity is very poor. The display on the remote controller has faded, does not show anything, or changes by itself.
The indoor unit may not receive remote controller signals properly in a room with fluorescent lamps on electronic ballasted lighting fixtures (such as inverter fluorescent lamps), or with LCD or plasma televisions. If this happens, contact the place of purchase.
If the transceiver is exposed to direct sunlight, the indoor unit may not operate properly.
Worn batteries can also cause erratic operation. Replace all batteries with new batteries.

Furnace Repair

Daikin manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Daikin appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

The Furnace Won’t Start
If nothing happens when the thermostat is set above the home’s current temperature, the most likely causes are these:
The furnace switch (located on or near the furnace, looks like a common light switch) is turned off and simply needs to be turned on, though the furnace might have a short delay before starting
The circuit breaker is off, and if the circuit continues to trip after it is turned back on, there is likely a wiring short in the furnace
The thermostat isn’t set to “heat,” which is easy to check and remedy
The thermostat isn’t working, and this is sometimes caused by a wire coming loose, so check the wiring connections
The thermostat needs fresh batteries, if battery-powered, or it is bad and must be replaced, an issue that can be diagnosed using an electrical multimeter that shows if a circuit is complete
The filter is dirty and must be replaced or cleaned, an issue that is especially true on newer furnaces that are equipped to shut down if the filter isn’t allowing adequate air flow, a condition that can cause serious mechanical failure
The furnace’s main circuit board/control board is bad, an issue that can be diagnosed by an HVAC technician is nothing else solves the issue

Furnace Blowing Cold Air
If the furnace won’t produce heat, you can check to see if it is getting power by moving the fan switch from the “Auto” position to the “On” position. If the fan comes on, then the furnace is getting power. The likely issues then are:
The gas is turned off, so check the gas cock near the furnace to make sure it is parallel to the gas line, its position when the
The gas control valve isn’t opening and must be replaced
The ignitor is failing and must be replaced
The draft motor isn’t functioning or the fresh-air intake is blocked, perhaps by snow or debris, and needs to be cleared

The Draft Motor Runs, Furnace Won’t Start
The draft motor is also called the inducer motor. It pulls hot combustion gases through the furnace and out the exhaust stack. If it starts and then the furnace shuts down, the cause might be:
The motor or the board that controls it has failed and must be replaced
A blocked air intake or blocked exhaust chimney (snow, debris and bird’s nests are common causes) must be cleared
One of the issues discussed above with gas, gas valve and ignitor must be addressed

The Flame Starts, but the Furnace Shuts Down
If the burner starts making heat but soon shuts off without warming your home, the flame sensor isn’t working. If the sensor has corrosion on it, sanding it might work, though replacing it is a longer-lasting fix.

The Blower Won’t Shut Off
If the blower motor runs all the time, there are three common issues:
The fan switch on the thermostat is set to “on” rather than “auto”
Relays in the control board are stuck in the closed position, so the blower is getting a constant supply of electricity, and the control board must be replaced
The thermostat also has contacts that control power to the furnace, and they can be worn, so the thermostat must be replaced.

Why Does the Furnace Keep Shutting Off
If your furnace burner lights but the furnace soon shuts off, there are a few common issues that might cause this:
The furnace filter is dirty and should be cleaned or replaced
The flame sensor isn’t working and should be replaced
The thermostat is failing
While these are common, there are several other potential causes best diagnosed by a furnace technician. This video gives in-depth coverage to the problem of furnace short-cycling.

The Furnace Runs but Can’t Keep the House Warm
If your furnace is properly sized for your home, then it should keep your home warm even in extreme cold. If it runs constantly but isn’t providing enough heat, the likely causes are:
A dirty filter that must be washed (only if the washable type) or replaced
The filter is the wrong type for your furnace and restricts airflow, so should be replaced
The filter is installed backwards, an issue that can be checked by looking for the arrows on the filter frame that show proper installation direction with the flow of air

The Furnace Makes Loud Noises
A noisy furnace is most often the result of:
The furnace being a single-stage model that runs on high capacity all the time, so it’s going to be loud
A bad bearing in the draft motor or the blower motor that must be replaced
A leak in the furnace cabinet, sheet metal plenum or ductwork near the furnace that must be tightened
A dirty filter, which can also cause whistling

The Air Coming from the Furnace Smells Bad
Foul odors from the furnace are usually caused by:
A very dirty filter that should be washed, if washable, or replaced
A dead rodent or bird somewhere in the system, usually a job for a professional furnace technician

The CO Monitor Going Off
A carbon monoxide alarm should be taken seriously. Turn the furnace off at the thermostat. Don’t go into the room where the furnace is located. Open doors and windows, and go outside. Call 911 from a cell phone outside your home.

Heat Pump Repair

If you're looking for some general tips for repairing a heat pump, here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

Safety first: Before attempting any repair work on your heat pump, ensure that you turn off the power to the unit at the circuit breaker or disconnect switch. This will help prevent any electrical accidents or injuries.

Understand your limitations: Heat pumps are complex systems, and repairing them can be challenging. It's important to assess your own skill level and knowledge. Some repairs may require professional expertise, so if you're unsure or uncomfortable with the repair process, it's best to contact a licensed HVAC technician.

Identify the problem: Diagnose the issue with your heat pump by observing its behavior and any error codes displayed. Is the unit not turning on? Is it not heating or cooling effectively? Understanding the specific problem will guide your repair efforts.

Clean and maintain the unit: Heat pumps require regular cleaning and maintenance to operate efficiently. Ensure that the outdoor unit is clear of debris, such as leaves, dirt, or obstructions. Clean or replace air filters as recommended by the manufacturer. Keep the coils clean and free of dirt or debris.

Check electrical connections: Inspect the electrical connections for signs of damage, loose wires, or corrosion. Tighten any loose connections and clean any corrosion using a wire brush.

Verify refrigerant levels: If you suspect a refrigerant leak or insufficient cooling, it's important to contact a professional technician. Refrigerant handling requires specialized equipment and knowledge, and it's illegal to release refrigerants into the atmosphere.

Test components: Certain components, such as capacitors, contactors, or sensors, may fail over time. If you have experience and the necessary tools, you can test these components for proper functioning. Replace any faulty components with compatible replacements.

Consult the user manual: Always refer to the manufacturer's user manual for your specific heat pump model. It will provide you with specific troubleshooting steps, maintenance guidelines, and safety precautions.

Remember, if your heat pump repair requires in-depth knowledge or expertise, it's best to contact a professional HVAC technician. They have the skills, tools, and experience to handle complex repairs and ensure the safe operation of your heat pump system.

My heater obsoleted over a year ago, prompting another visit to Daikin. The replacement wasn’t long in coming and I was able to continue with my life as usual. Though this is not your normal air conditioner as it is designed to save lots of energy, pushing down your energy bills, you will love its efficiency. The machine senses the inactivity in the house and automatically shifts to standby mode, further saving on electricity bills. I have been using it for the last 15 months.

Last summer, I realized that my old heat pump was no longer up to the task and quickly went out to get a new device. A friend had pointed me in the direction of Daikin and had promised I would never regret the decision. Well, I haven’t. 5 months down the line and the machine doesn’t show any signs of fatigue. It is a true reflection of Japanese technology, famed to be among the best in the world.

I wouldn’t mind the hum of the powerful Daikin 24,000 BTU AC so long as it does its job well. I don’t see any sense in going for a quiet but hopelessly ineffective device. The slight vibrations are great for soothing me into a deep slumber! I think Daikin made a big balance between power and noise levels – huge power means you have to sacrifice certain niceties like a quiet device. At less than $3,000, it is the best bargain one can ever out there. I have been using it since 18 months ago, and so far, nothing to complain about.

I just recently had the new Daikin furnace installed into our home and so far I'm very impressed with both it's energy efficiency as well as it's overall quiet operation. This new unit also has a much smaller footprint than the unit it's replacing, which in turn takes up less valuable space in our utility room. I'm very pleased with making this purchase.

We purchased a new furnace and central air unit. The house seems much more cooler with so much less effort. The air condition unit outside is so quiet you can hardly hear it running. We haven’t how do use the furnace yet but I’m sure it will be just as effective. We are extremely happy with both of our set ups and Applegate cooling and heating did an amazing job installing them. The warranty coverage that comes with the system is absolutely amazing along with all the rebates.

I received this gadget from Amazon 13 month ago and my heart has been swelling with pride every time I step into the house. Silent air-conditioning and a massive 18,000 BTU power was more that I had bargained for. No disturbance in my sleep as I can simply program the device, thanks to its wireless LCD remote control. Daikin should know they have one satisfied customer.

The Daikin 12,000 BTU 24.5 Seer heat pump carries out its duties diligently and silently but I have a problem with the much-touted energy saving feature it is supposed to have. My power bills have shot through the stratosphere since I started using it 10 months ago. I would love to know if anything can be done about its power consumption so that I wouldn’t have to worry about energy costs. Generally, it is a nice gadget.

I purchased my home in 2016 and it was built in 1977. This home is ~2,600 sq.ft. and has an unfinished basement. The HVAC system was very dated, and the furnace was likely the original. Using Legacy Heating and Air, Inc., a new full system install was done. The components used are all Daikin (aside from a water heater also replaced), and are the following: DM97MC1005CN (Furnace), DX17VSS421AA (A/C), CAPE4860C4 (Coil), DTST-CWBSA-NI-A (Thermostat). I could immediately feel the difference. There were rooms in the house that weren't getting much or any air adjustments because the old system was simply not a great fit for the house and inefficient. With the current system, I can now cool or heat the house evenly several degrees within minutes. The new thermostat is very slick, and easy to control. I haven't seen the new cost for energy consumption (not billed using new system yet), but from what I can tell is it's going to be a nice difference. Everything is incredibly quiet and I'm very pleased with this investment.
