We had a Rheem two-stage R-410A Heat Pump (4 ton) (2 speed) outdoor unit with matching 4 ton air handler (variable speed) installed in September 2014 by Home Depots contractor ARS with county permit. We know it was professionally installed correctly. We signed up for the service program with twice yearly inspections for maintenance. Everything checked out until our March 2017 service call when it was discovered that the static pressure was too high. When the air handler panel was removed you could see that 2/3rds of the A coils was covered with frost, a result of internal restriction. Also, on close examination, you could see rust all around the tubes where they came out and went back (U shape). My contractor did a replacement installation of the coil unit. The unit itself was covered by Rheems 10 year warranty but not the labor, so I was out $997. This for a coil unit that was not 3 years old, the date of manufacture was July 2014, installed September 2014. Very poor quality. What is most interesting is that the replacement coil unit is all aluminum. The contractor/installer said all the new Rheem units similar to mine now come with the all aluminum coil units. This tells me that Rheem knew it had junk and switched out to the all aluminum, which will not have a rust issue and hopefully not an internal issue with restrictions.

I had a Rheem Prestige heater installed in my house when it was being constructed, and desire what temperature I set it to. This heater cant even keep up on a mildly cool day. My thermostat is set at 65 and the room is about 54 and the unit isnt even trying to warm the house. Just junk, and I wish everyone could read about Rheem just to avoid trash like this and send this company where it belongs, into bankruptcy.

This company doesnt stand behind their product. They installed the water heater at at 4 star hotel and it leaked within two months of installation. It wasnt a small leak. It was a steady stream from the internal tank on the bottom. I called the company and spoke with Daniel ** and he said they could replace it but basically I was on my own. It didnt matter that it had caused some structural damage to the walls or molding. They wouldnt send a representative to inspect the unit. The unit was faulty and the company did not stand behind their product or the contractor that installed a product we believed to be good or offer good customer service for products. Things like this causes contractors like us a huge liability and possibly lost us a big client.

Basically, I bought two Ruud/Rheem air conditioners from a local company and the 2011 air conditioner started to leak Freon as far as I can tell in 2016. Upon investigation and numerous calls I became aware that the company is selling units with copper coils (aluminum is the best choice) that are eaten through by the Freon and thus cause leaks in the coils which and in turn the unit shuts down. The company denies that they are having significant problems and will not help me financially address the repair. So, at this time I am repairing my air conditioner from my own Pocket even though I bought the units in good faith along with the assurance that Ruud/Rheem was a trustworthy company, WHICH THEY HAVE PROVEN ARE NOT TO BE.When I called the company, the customer service representative was in complete denial of the problem and I think they were trained to say certain pat answers to avoid liability. I Highly suggest that everyone reading this write or call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION as I did and a rep will call to take your complaint and if enough people do so there will be a federal investigation based on the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, look it up to educate oneself.

10/11/19 I bought a Rheem 50 gallon hot water heater with a 10-year warranty. Model #: PROE50 T2 RH95. Serial #: Q401935323. 10-Year Warranty #:02-0415647. Installation by the Water Heater Guys was done professionally. When I tried to register the 10-year warranty, it was entered incorrectly as a 6-year warranty. Both Rheem & The Hot Water Heater Guys say they agree that I have a 10-year warranty, but my registration can’t be changed to show it. I must keep my water heater stickers & invoices to prove I bought it with a 10-year warranty, if I ever need it. Sound true? It is!

Every time I leave for over the road, I come back house is cold, when it warms up, I shut it off, then need heat and nothing, its always sensors, gas valve sticks. The furnace gets new filter every month, dust out top of furnace, and plagued with issues, oh and the air conditioner, when it cycles off sounds like it gears are being stripped. Thats normal after a year of whinnying, Never again will I buy Rheem. 96% efficiency my butt. My hydro goes up while I wait for repair guy.

Last Spring 2016, I had a contractor install air conditioning in my 2 story house beach house. It was not possible to run ducts on the first floor so Fujitsu ductless was installed and works beautifully. Unfortunately, on the second floor I had central air conditioning installed and paid additional to upgrade to the Ruud brand. Big Mistake! The contractor had problems upon problems with the equipment. Because the equipment did not work, the compressor had to be installed twice and the coil/air handler needed to be installed three times. In summary, the contractor wasnt happy with all the time he spent and wasnt paid for and the installation wasnt finished until mid summer ruining my summer.

We bought an Rheem 5.0 Ton air conditioner unit just 13 months ago. The compressor stopped working and even though the parts are covered we had to pay $600 for the labor. We are still paying for this unit and it only lasted a little over a year. The unit we had before (a different brand) lasted over 10 years before it gave us any problems. It doesnt seem fair that we had to pay that much money for labor when it is obviously a faulty unit. We live in Florida and its the middle of summer, we cant live without AC so we just had to pay it. I will not recommend this Rheem brand to anybody.

I needed to purchase a new natural gas water heater because my Rheem / Rudd brand started leaking. It was installed in 1992 so I figured I couldnt go wrong buying another Rheem. Bought it at the big box store, took it home and had it installed within an hour. I tried to start it up using the easy start system, but the pilot would not stay lit. They idiot proof these new water heaters so you cant actually access anything or complete any kind of small repair. All over the box, the tank, and instruction manual it says that I cant return the unit to the store. I have to call their 1800 number and get assistance. This is where things get interesting. I called the number and explained what was wrong. The support person walks me through the same stuff thats written in the instruction manual. He comes to the conclusion that the unit is defective and tells me a work order will be created and within one day someone will call me. Of course a day passes and no one calls me. So I call Rheem and they tell me that a local company has the work order. Called the local company and they tell me that they dont have the part to fix the tank and they can’t come out until Rheem sends ME the part. I call Rheem, and of course they tell me that they wont send me the part and that the local company has to first come out and diagnose the problem. At this point I am angry and explain to them that it is the middle of winter, I have two small kids and just want hot water. I ask if I can return the tank to the store and they tell that they wont authorize a return until the unit gets diagnosed. I call the local company back and they tell me that Rheem is giving me the run around and that the part is probably on back order so it could be weeks before I get the problem solved. He tells me I would be better off dealing with the big box store. I called the big box store and explained the situation and they agreed to take the unit back as defective. The big box store and the local company apologized. Rheem were jerks. I hope the company goes bankrupt and all of their support people lose their jobs and have to go without hot water.

My hot water heater’s FVC broke after two weeks. They told me dust could set it off? Or unopened paint cans? Who doesn’t have that stuff in their basement? They then were supposed to send me a new part which took a week to get to me. Hot water heater broke on a Friday but they couldn’t send a part out to me until Monday. They tried to blame it on FedEx. But they managed to get me the return label to send back the defective part in two days. No apologies or anything. Stay away from this company!

I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

Replaced our water heater of 20 years with a Rheem because it was a good brand and has been around. It worked fine for a week and then the pilot went out. Re lit and 2 days went out again. Then it was going out every couple hours. I called Tech support with Rheem and said they would have a plumber contact me. Plumber came out and determined it was the main Gas control. Took 4 days to get the part and we installed it and still did the same thing. Called tech support again, they wanted us to take the burner assembly to check if something was tripped. If it was they would send another part out. We have been without hot water for almost two weeks. Im tired of the runaround and took it back to home depot for a refund. So disappointed with the whole situation. They could have overnighted the parts instead of waiting days for them.

I had a professional install a new water heater. The old one had finally quit working. He installed a Rheem. When he turned the water on and it had time to heat water the first time the pressure valve wouldnt stop leaking. So I called Rheem and after a fight they agreed to send a new pressure valve to me that I installed. That stopped the leaking for a couple years. Still under warranty 4 years later it starts to leak again... I call them back and they wont send another pressure valve out but tell me I have to install a thermal tank? I have the lowest pressure of all my neighbors and none of them have a thermal tank why should I, now, need one? They say if I install a thermal tank and it doesnt fix the problem that it is probably the water tank. What a piss poor company... Never again will I buy or allow a Rheem on my place!!!

Purchase gas water heater August 2020. May 2021 gas valve became faulty. They shipped one out (2-4 days) and finally had someone schedule to come out after 7 days with no hot water. They proceeded to tell me that the gas valves for this unit manufactured between April and October 2020 are faulty and are having all kinds of issues. I was assured that the one they replaced in May 2021 that the issue was fixed and I would not have this problem. Now it is December 2021 and the gas valve has broke again. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. Customer service is extremely rude and unhelpful and they do not care whether you’re out of hot water or not. All they do is make excuses. I will never purchased one of these again.

I wish I knew now what I should have known then. I purchased a 2.5 ton Rheem unit in Jan 2012 and had it installed for my 1000 sq ft condo in AZ. No problems at first but then in Aug 2016 the unit started blowing hot air and had techs come out. After spending almost $1000 for coil cleaning, new blower motor plus other stuff the unit was running again. Then in 2018 it started blowing hot air again. This time I had a handyman who was working on my condo told me the coil were frozen over and let it run blower only for 24 hours and let it thaw out, that worked. Now forward to Aug 2020 in AZ with the temps averaging 114 outside plus covid happening the unit again started blowing out hot air. Techs again come out. Tell me it needs parts, Freon, new condenser and maybe that would fix my problem. It would be about $4000 and it was not guaranteed. It would not happen again. I was told by two companies that Rheem units are a piece of crap and they do not sell them at all. I purchased another new unit. I do not think things should break in less than 10 years. Wish I also knew that Rheem has lawsuits against them in 2014.

I purchase 3 Ruud A/C units for my new construction home off of great experience from my 25+ year old theme unit in my previous home. I currently have two 3 ton units and one 2 ton unit. Within 1 year my 2nd unit would not cool, service tech had to replace condenser coil.... Looked as if it was damaged from factory. That winter it would not run in heat pump mode, had to replace control board in condenser unit. Following year same unit would not cool again..... Evap coil bad, had to be replaced. The following spring the AH blower motor would not come on, new ECM module and motor replaced. Year 3, this same unit would not cool again and my 2 ton unit would not cool effectively. Both units had leaky evap coils that had to be replaced. Now as I write this the 2 floor unit is not running again, I suspect the ECM or blower motor. South Louisiana in summer is not fun with no AC. Summary: In less than 3 years Ive had 4 coils a control board, ECM and motor replaced in 3 units, all the while fighting tooth and nail with Ruud customer service that is of no help. Oh and by the way the 10 year condenser unit replacement warranty is only if the compressor goes out. Yes they will cover parts under warranty but not labor or refrigerant. I have over $1,600 in repair bills on what was supposed to be high-end units. DO NOT buy Ruud.

On July 4th room was flooded and I was able to get a plumber to come that holiday, remove water heater and replace with a new one. Plumber was only able to purchase from Home Depot and bought a $480 Rheem replacement water heater. Contacted Rheem and they said, You need to return the old heater to us. This made no sense to hire someone to pack and then ship back to Rheem in order to possibly get some type of pro-rated refund.I had just paid another $500 with tax for another one of their substandard water heaters. I also researched online and they do not have a good reputation for warranty returns nor are they rated well in the country for product reliability. We purchased a Rheem water heater less than 8 months ago. The product was manufactured in February of 2013. There are only 2 adults in the household and this morning when trying to shower before work, we found there was no hot water. My husband called Rheem to receive no assistance other than Rheem would cover the part, but not the cost of a plumber to install. My husband could install, but Rheem would not even overnight the part, telling my husband it would be 2-4 days before the part would arrive. My understanding is that these water heaters are no longer made in the United States and therefore the thermal coupling will likely go out many times. After reading other reviews, I see there are others with the same problem. It is amazing that Rheem does not stand by their product and take care of all costs (the plumbers fees). We will never buy a Rheem product again and will be sure to tell others not to purchase Rheem products. Perhaps if Rheem stood by their product and took care of their clients, they wouldnt lose business.

I purchased this AC/Furnace and had a problem with it not cooling and the Outside exchanger coming on and off all within the warranty period. The contractor who installed it, fixed it by putting more 410 refrigerant in it. When I asked about the on and off issue I was told that it was a cycling thing going on, was lead to believe that was a normal operation. Recently I had the same problem and another tech from the same company came out and told me it has a leak and he put 5lbs of 410 refrigerant in to fix the problem. He stated the problem was due to low pressure, that is why the unit did not cool and the reason why it turned on and off. Now I am 4 months over the 5 year warranty period, so I am told by the contractor and Rheem will not replace that portion as that is where the leak is without me paying for the cost of the part plus labor. The Rheem products are crap. I spent good money and had a contractor hoodwink me into thinking there was no problems with the unit when in actuality the problem was occurring during the warranty period. This unit should have easily lasted much longer than it did, but unless youre an ac tech youre not in the know. If you are looking to replace your furnace/AC unit look at another company. We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

Had a plumber install a Rheem 40 gallon propane water heater installed in December 2018. In September 2019 the unit quit working. After several hours on hold and some troubleshooting identified that the internal combustion shut off device had failed. Had a plumber out who confirmed issue and was perplexed with an unusually high amount of soot in the water heater. I explained there was a fire below the burner, which seemed very odd. Once the new part came in we replaced it and it lasted for less than 15 minutes. I then had a second plumber out who checked gas pressure, venting and that everything was installed according to code. We discussed the issue and that Rheem no longer makes good products. We both contact Rheem and explained all the trouble shooting we had done. After an hour on the phone with multiple contacts they finally agreed to send a new burner and internal combustion shut off device. After more than a week of cold showers for this family of six we finally got the parts. New parts were installed and it seemed to work great until today December 1 2019 when the internal combustion shut off device failed again. Been on hold for 45 minutes waiting for customer service. Keep in mind that there has been no change to the venting or the gas pressure. Save yourself some headaches and buy a different brand.

I had a Rheem water heater in my new house, only 3 1/2 years old. It ended up being defective and needing replacement. It was very difficult getting any assistance in replacing it. I found a plumber to assist with the installation. I found the wholesaler where my builder purchased the water heater. After 9 months dealing with the wholesaler, I finally was able to get a water heater. I paid the plumber $550.00 for installation, knowing that Rheem would likely cut me a check for this cost. Found out, Rheem was going to let me eat this cost. I would not have incurred this cost if it were NOT for a defective water heater. I was told by a Rheem representative that this cost is not in the warranty. Sorry but very poor business. I will not purchase or recommend any Rheem products because of this.

Yesterday around 5:30 pm I heard a loud popping sound and looked up. Saw sparks coming from the lower level of my home. Upon further investigation, I started to see and smell smoke. Once I figured out where the smoke was coming, I quickly discovered the source of the smoke, which was from my Rheem hot water heater that had caught on fire.

I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (Im a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a normal operational issue. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. Im pretty shocked - Ive never seen this ever before! EVER. And Im 54... I replaced the parts and figured that Id be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didnt pop the breaker either. Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats. At this time Im real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. Im a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... Im thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, its time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and dont want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.

Buying Rheem Seer 20 heat pump/ac unit is the worst investment of our lives. Three months after buying it quit and installer said it needed to replaced but under warranty. Waited 2 months and installed in December. Incredibly loud!!!! Sounds like a loud compressor running beside the house. If the outside temperature gets cold it is very inefficient warming the house. At -10C (14F) it couldnt keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.

I purchased over $30,000.00 of Rheem products for my home being told they were the best by HVAC contractors. Yes it was the best for them because they always fail and need service. I am on my second instant Hot water tank that just failed once again. The Rheem people are curt, and dont deal with consumers well. I had to pay for an electrician to see if I had enough power, which I told them I had, then I had to get the plumber back a number of times. First it may be the fuses, OK Then it may be the Keypad OK another $85.00 OK then it may be the computer board, or the fan, or some more fuses maybe another $500.00 plus labor.I just played that game with one of my 4 ton Prestige HVAC units $2,000.00 on service & parts. None of the codes were right, all the 6 parts for thousands never worked, and then they changed the handler, after a month of no heat and $2,000 paid to a HVAC company. Anybody wants to know more contact me. I have went through 4 keypads on my Raypak heat pump another Rheem product, and my other 4 ton heat pump has a loud knocking bearing noise that I will live with. I wish I could get away with doing business like this.... Stay away. It is a money hole.

Trying to build cheap but sell high. Anyway I just notice my water heater by Rheem had burn marks and a little smoke, and water leak. I am just fed up. I am out of cash. Fixing appliances over and over because the manufacturer did not do its job! I have no idea what to do. I spent $4300 on a brand new Rheem HVAC because the coils were corroded. Jesus!

I purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water heater in August, 2016. This past Tuesday, no hot water. Plumber came and replaced the bad Thermo coupler. Tonight came home to no hot water. Plumber came, said it is a faulty gas valve. He gave me a choice-back-order a replacement part for $300.00 and wait days to get it and add in labor or it would be cheaper to replace the water heater. That is what I opted for. I am wildly disappointed in that Rheem unit. It was nothing but trouble from day one!

Worked great for about 4 months. Then started throwing error codes and kicking off the compressor. So it would only run in electric mode, which is triple the operating cost. I contacted Rheem due to the warranty (be prepared to be on hold 40-60 mins each time), and was told they would send a contractor out. Well, 3 weeks later, I contacted them AGAIN since I had heard nothing, and was told that there were no contractors in my area so I had to do all the leg work to find a contractor who would diagnose it, pay them upfront and I would be reimbursed. Okay, so be aware that most plumbers will not TOUCH a hybrid water heater, whats less try to diagnose or repair it. I finally found one, submitted for the reimbursement (still have not been reimbursed), they sent a replacement control board, had to pay the contractor AGAIN up front to replace the control board (still have not been reimbursed for this second bill), which did not fix the problem.Today, I called Rheem AGAIN and was told that I have to uninstall the water heater myself, drag it back to Home Depot to get a warranty replacement, and pay another contractor up front to reinstall the new one. This has been the most horrible experience and horrible company Ive ever had to deal with for an appliance. When it works, its amazing, but this POS only lasted about 4 months and is not worth the stress or additional money you will have to pay to fix it once it stops working. DO NOT BUY!

We purchased a Rheem air conditioner in 2012 because we were having small problems with our original air conditioner that came with our house when it was built in 1995. Because it was 17 years old & started having small problems, we decided to purchase a new one, which was a Rheem. Btw, we lived in another home prior to this one & that a/c (not a Rheem) was still working great when we sold that home 20 years later. After having the new one for two years, the coil was leaking & all rusted out. It was under warranty, but the labor to install a new one cost us just under $500. Almost six years after that, just recently, the compressor went out. The charge to relace it (labor) plus refrigerant is $1600.We purchased a new a/c unit so we wouldnt have to be putting more money into an old unit, wouldnt have to be inconvenienced & uncomfortable. We now have bigger & more expensive problems with the a/c than we had before. Rheem makes an inferior product & I wouldnt wish this product on anyone. Do not buy from Rheem, youll be sorry. P.S. I have a neighbor who also replaced her original a/c of 19 years with a Rheem & her unit just stopped working. She is still waiting for the repairman to look at it while the high has been 100° each day.

The Rheem service partner, Blanton & Sons, did not disclose that the Rheem unit they recommended does not qualify for the federal energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act. Further, the contractor indicated Rheem does not have equipment that meets the SEER2 rating requirements for the tax credit. BUYER BEWARE! The tax credit for a split unit is $2,000, so be sure you get equipment that qualifies for this credit. This is the 2 Rheem 360 gallon hot water heater model G65-360-1 that has leaked in less than 5 years. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best. Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem wont give us a refund. Be aware they have problems. Avoid a Rheem or any of their other products. A Wood heater will last years without problems, ask your plumber before you buy not the experts at the Home Improvement stores. They are going to sell you what they make the most margin on. Not what is going to be the best.

Rheem is horrible, if an HVAC contractor tries to sell you one get rid of him as well. I installed 3 units at my house in 2012 and after a year I had to replace an evaporator coil on one unit. After 2 years all three evaporator coils were leaking and need to be replaced as well as numerous other problems. Rheem covers parts but not labor, every visit has been at least $500. The comfort control 2 (Rheem Thermostat RHC-TST551CMMS) is not programmable to a laymen, they dont give you a manual. Try to find any information for Rheem online other than to fix one or buy one. There is none, they sweep the internet so you call the repair facility nearest you so they can come out and charge you to repair it. An out of town family member who owns an HVAC company relayed to me that they are the least dependent and he loves them. Rheem has washed their hands to even talking to the consumer as well. Try calling Rheem, good luck. They tell you they have never had issue, theyre not even sure they make AC units if you have a problem. Try looking for manuals on their website, there are none. Not even to program the thermostat. They throw codes constantly and guess what, call the technician to reprogram its $100.00 plus to visit and $$$ to fix it, thats if they are telling you the truth. The company has had issues with all of their products from water heaters to AC units and they deny ever having an issue. They are unscrupulous and their product is pure junk. I would go on but, its not worth it other than to warn you, a $20K home improvement has become a total liability.

If you thinking getting a tankless water tank think about it. It can take up to 75 second to get hot water, if you do not have a recirculation loop in your house forget it. The Rheem does not have a buffer tank in the unit. You will have to get install a recirculation pump and a mini water tank beside to keep a certain quantity of hot water to be use until the tank warm up the rest of the water you need. But if you go for Navien NPE series you will need just the recirculation loop. That brand have the buffer tank inside the unit. And you have a app to change the temperature of the water from anywhere is your house. If I knew that I would go for that one and the price is less than Rheem and better guarantee. Do not trust any sale rep who come to your home. I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didnt heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information. I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesnt work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call. The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheems quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as thats what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

Water heater died two days before Thanksgiving. Knowing I had guests coming for Thanksgiving dinner, I bought a Rheem gas-fired water heater at Home Depot. Installed it (which took me quite a while as I am not a professional plumber). Pilot would not light. Called technical support. They told me they were over-nighting the required part to me to arrive the following day and that a local plumber would call me to schedule installation. Guy never called. Second call: Was told someone would be calling me within another hour. Third call: Rheem then told me they personally called another plumber in their service network who would call me within minutes. No call. I called the plumber. He told me he could not schedule install until he knows I have the part. Fourth call: Rheem told me they could not confirm the part had, in fact shipped until the following morning.Fifth call: After a long time on hold they told me it had not shipped yet. Now advised it would arrive the day after Thanksgiving. I asked where I could buy the part locally (at my own expense). Tech support told me they dont have that info. I argued they MUST at least know who their wholesale distributor is in Maryland so I could locate the part and advise their local plumber that the part is available or pick it up and have it available at my home for him to install. Rheem tech support guy just kept repeating they dont have that info. I asked him to do me the favor of calling their parts division to find out. Told me they dont have the info necessary to make that call within their own company.I elevated the matter to a supervisor. He just kept repeating they are the tech support department and dont have the info necessary to contact the parts division. No rationale. Just kept repeating, We are just tech support. We dont have that information over and over again as if purposely trying to irritate me. I asked to elevate it one level higher - just to find out who is the local parts distributor. Was left on hold for 35 minutes before I hung up. The call wasted more than an hour.Calls the prior day amounted to nearly two hours. Then I called 8 plumbers and 6 supply companies around the state. Was told by several of them that no company stocks Rheem water heater parts. It became clear why Rheem tech support refused to provide the name of any wholesaler or retailer of parts in Maryland and simply kept repeating, We are just tech support. We dont have that information. There are no parts wholesalers nor dealers who carry Rheem water heater parts - at least in Maryland and Virginia. Im hoping the part will arrive the Friday after Thanksgiving and that it can be installed the same day. Otherwise, we will have gone an entire week without hot water due to a defective new water heater and desperately horrible customer service.

Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater that I bought had the element go out twice. The first time they came and repaired it. Now the heater was only 6 months old on the first repair. After that not even a month passed and the element went out again with water also leaking everywhere. So after that on the third visit they notice that the element was not screwed in right causing it to leak again. They replace it with a newer model that was going to be better but my luck, one week into it and eco goes out. They send the part. Had to wait a week for it just for the repairman to put it on and now my breaker is jumping. The repairman then tells me thats its probably my breaker. Hint my breaker had never jumped having the first water heater. So technically the repair did an incomplete job because I still have no hot running water. Now customers services doesnt want to deal with my wife. It is up to you if you think its worth buying this product. But I will never buy from them again. Not worth dealing with the repair people and their customers services. Best of luck if you buy.

Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Lets see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others dont give me much hope in this regard.

We purchased a home water heater with installation from Home Depot. That was done on Monday. The technician left before it was filled. The tank, not the pipes, started leaking as soon as it was full. We contacted the contractor and Home Depot and they both said to contact Rheem. After 37 minutes on hold I was told that a licensed Rheem professional would contact me within 24 hours to schedule a time when he could come verify the leak for himself. Now day 2 of no water heater and no call. Stay away from Rheem and Home Depot.

Purchased NEW unit through a marketing company on Ebay. Verified with Rheem the Serial number had never been registered. Installed unit and just in five years the heat exchanger has failed within the parameters of the 12 year warranty. I have gone back and forth with this company and realized they do not stand behind their products over technicalities. They call the business that sold me the tank and the Stainless vent kit a third party vendor that is pure manure! I have the receipt the vendor wants to help and the Rheem company said they are out of the picture! Its between me and the vendor! I smell manure again! Any store selling manufacturers products are not liable for the warranty...the manufacturer is once you produce a legit receipt. Conclusion: RHEEM HAS NO ETHICS, INTEGRITY AND ANY CUSTOMER ORIENTATION! Learn from my experience>>> why would you buy their product after reading this review! I have emails of this short version of a review I am posting>>> Learn from others misfortune & experience

Dont buy the Rheem water heater for the warranty, it is worthless. It only covers parts, which leaves you at the hands of the thieving plumbers. The ignition and thermostat system is overly complicated and may fail. Mine lasted 5 years (12-year warranty). The plumber wanted $350 to repair the unit, the part (covered) is $112. My son who lives out of state does home repair and said it was a 15-minute job. I am trying to order the party under warranty but that is not going well. Brand new this tank at Home Depot is $850 installed so its smarter to get a new one. So buy the tank you think fits your need but dont get excited about the warranty, its not going to help much.

I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.

Why is it that nothing lasts anymore. I put this Electric Tank in our home in July of 2019. Now December 2019 and it keeps tripping the Local cut out. I suspect that the Thermostat on the lower heater element is dead but, I am now at work and cant get back home to look at it. Of course it dies on a weekend. We are a family of 5 and honestly this is the last thing we need. The tank was working perfectly up until a few days ago. Now Ill have to contact Rheem and see if I can get any warranty out of them. I feel that the best thing I can do is call my local Home Depot where I bought the thing and see if I can get them to issue me a replacement!Uggh, I dont have time for this!!!! Do not buy this unit as it will not last you. This was supposed to be a 9 year tank!!!

I replaced my water heater with a 50 gallon propane unit after my previous water heater failed. I dont recall which brand was replaced but it had been trouble free for years before the bottom rusted out. The new unit started having hot water consistently issues and because the warranty department said they were out of stock on replacement control valves which troubleshooting identified as the problem. I was authorized to get a new replacement water heater from HomeDepot. Within a year, the water temperature stopped holding. Warranty sent a new control valve. This took care of the problem for several months until it repeated. This time they wanted me to contact a repair company to verify there were not external issues like low propane pressure, water supply issues, etc. All checked out and they sent me a new control valve. 7 months later, and the problem repeats! I called again, got transferred and put into a queue with a half hour delay and hung up in frustration. Ill call again when I have more time but I have lost all confidence in this brand. When I had asked a previous service support tech at Rheem about the issue, he said they were getting the parts out of Mexico and chuckled.

Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.

Build our house 4 years ago. Our builder used at the time Rheem AC units, needless to say he has wised up since then. Just days after moving into a brand new house with brand new Ac in June, our unit would not work. Repair #1. Couple more repairs after that. Have had several repairs within the last 4 years also. This year has been by far the worst!!! I have had 7 repairs so far this summer season and am currently today October 23, waiting for yet another part to be replaced. Not say same part each time either. Multiple parts have been replaced each summer for the past 4 years. Alternative, replace unit. Really after spending $360,000 to build house. Parts are always on back order with Rheem, the parts you get from them seem to fail quickly and multiple times, and when the repairman has to make multiple calls to even get the parts department from Rheem to call him, theres a problem. Multiple repair men licensed in HVAC have told us and neighbors that Rheem units are crap and to stay away. Rheem your products are absolute crap, and your parts dept and service are even worse!!

Purchased this brand new AC from my air conditioner specialist not quite 2 years ago and have had a few problems that make me NOT so happy. First it was the compressor failing which had to be replaced, under warranty. Great but the labor was not under warranty so that cost me $175 which doesnt sound like a lot but when you shelled out $4500 for a new AC just under 2 years previously it is a big deal. He installs that and puts some fluid that was recommended into a valve and off he went. The AC worked for about 3 hours before it went bad -- froze up. He came over in the evening and looked at it, and said now it was the valve that he had gotten a service alert on. Although he put in some fluid as they described apparently it needs to be replaced again. That is under warranty BUT over $500 in labor and cant do it then. Will have to come back and do it. So $675 worth of work on a NEW air conditioner and 4 nights without AC in August in Florida. Had to move my pets out of the house with me for FOUR nights. Not good!!!

I filed a warranty claim with the company via their web form with all the required information. Rheem never responded one way or the other, on a water heater that failed after just two years on a 6 year warranty. During installation we discovered that half of the gas heating unit was missing. Rheem graciously sent us a new heating unit, though, as it turned out, even that was defective, but was able to repair with locally sourced parts. Between my father and I we have used Rheem water heaters in this house for over 60 years, but obviously, there must be new management, who neither cares about quality control or fairness in business practices. I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater XG50T12DU36U0 from Home Depot, I installed and it would not light up unless I would close and reopen the gas line manually. I called Rheem, troubleshooted the water heater with them over the phone and they decided it was the gas valve. I replaced it for them and the problem continued. I called them again, troubleshooted the heater again and they said it was the ignitor and asked me to replace it. I refused to replaced because I did not want to damage the heater and invalidate the warranty. Their repair company replaced the ignitor, the unit started after many sparks and then would not work again. I called Rheem again, troubleshooted again the flammable gas sensor, reset the gas valve without fixing the problem. They said it was the thermal protection device and asked me to open and remove the burner which I refused to do. I got tired of this and asked to return the unit. Rheem says they do not recommend that because they want to keep troubleshooting the unit (while I take cold showers...) and do not issue a Return Authorization number. Home Depot manager says I need to contact Rheem, get a return authorization number and they do not honor the 90 day return policy nor provide me a copy of it (they said I can take a picture of the policy on the counter). The policy does not mention water heater as non returnable items but still the manager does not accept me to return the heater. The manager said also that since the water heater was installed I cannot return it. Home Depot 1-800 customer service says I can return the unit (with receipt, serial number on heater and undamaged) but they cannot override the store manager. While the part was still under warranty, the labor was not and the labor to install one of these units varied from $200 to $600. Our previous water heater lasted for 25 years as did all of our neighbors. We installed a brand new Richmond 40 Gallon (Rheem) water heater which we purchased from Menards. It has a faulty Thermal shank. This has left me (and a renter) out of hot water for 3 days, while waiting for the part to arrive. Unfortunately no one has the part in town and there are no service technicians for the Saint Paul Minnesota area. I have called 15 plumbers off the list that was sent to me and I had difficulty finding one who will come out on short notice. I will not trust that I can have someone arrive after hours (@$259 an hour) and still be reimbursed. I will have a person tomorrow morning, but that means I will literally be boiling water for my renters bath. I am not looking forward to the paperwork I need to fill out for my claim. And I am disappointed that I will need to wait for my check to clear as proof of payment before finishing my claim. This is just more of a time delay to an already time consuming situation. This purchase has hurt my rental business. I will encourage others to buy another brand - especially Rental Managers and landlords who cant afford this type of hassle. I wish I could have just returned the product, but it is already filled with water and the gas and water lines are installed. I dont dare try to haul it back to the store for fear that it would be damaged on the way and then Id have an even bigger drama on my hands. And one more frustrating bit to this is the wait time when calling in. It was near a half hour. (Though the service line is faster).

I installed a Rheem 50 gallon electric water heater in September of 2016 and had a manufacture date of August 23, 2016, less than 2 years old. I noticed paint flaking off around the bottom and some minor rust forming around the bottom and where the paint was flaking. The water heater is in a basement room but is on a wood platform and not on a moist floor, and has a dehumidifier 5 feet away. I called Rheem customer service to explain the problem. They asked for pictures, which I sent them. They looked at the pics, and proceeded to blame it on condensation from being in the basement, even though it’s off the floor and right next to a dehumidifier. It’s is right on par with others experiences with Rheem. They do not honor warranties and make all sorts of excuses to not have to replace anything. This unit has a 6 year tank warranty on it, and it’s less than 2 years old. I have never had a water heater rust on the outside from condensation. Rust on the tank is a sign of failure of the inner lining and will only get worse. Luckily, I bought the Home Depot extended warranty as Rheem is useless and screws its customers. Horrible company.

I watched the igniter turn red and the gas turned on the burner, lit for a second or two and a click and it shut down and recycled and lit again, this time staying on. This has happened 2 more times. I had an A.O. Smith power vent for 10 years and the only reason I replaced it was because I didnt want to spend $175 on the new power vent that was coming apart. My Ruud furnace had its blower board replaced two years ago and shorted out again on a furnace that is only 14 years old (ave life approximates 20 years). Additionally, the inducer motor has failed too, making it difficult to justify the repair expense versus shelling out for a totally new furnace. I reached out to Ruud customer service and they basically said oh well, too bad. They had no sympathy, offered up no solutions, and had no interest in persuading me to buy a new Ruud or Rheem furnace. They did not care at all whether I was a customer or not. They will keep stalling on replacing your water heater until you give up and buy a new one because you need hot water. 12-year warranty tank, only 4 years old. Already had to replace the thermocouple 2 years ago. Second failure now only lets it give hot water for 1-2 minutes and its out. Since this was not my first bad experience with a Rheem heater customer support, I just went straight to a plumber. They told me the tank needs to be replaced. OK, next day I call support, they want me to check a couple things and get back to them, fair enough. Call back 2 days later, they have no record I ever called so we start the entire process again, and they decide to send me a new gas control valve even though the first person I talked to said that didnt fit the symptoms. 2 days later I get it, and install it. Still broken, call back again, by now its been a week without any hot water, and everyone in the house is pissed at me. They want me to run a water temperature test AGAIN for a third time, even though Im already well aware the water gets hot... it just runs out in about 2 minutes. They want to send me another gas control valve, even though I just installed a new one they sent me that day. Which I wouldnt get until Tuesday since its a Saturday. Refuse to allow me to trade it in for a new one, and the supervisor tells me its clearly a plumbing issue since the gas control valve was replaced and I checked the dip tube and its not cracked or broken. He tells me just like a water heater, parts can fail in plumbing. My copper pipes can fail somehow causing hot water to run out quick? With zero plumbing changes? Yeah, OK, they clearly are just coming up with any excuse possible to not give me a working water heater. At this point I need hot water, so I give up and go buy a Whirlpool. Hey, I have all the hot water I want now, turns out my copper pipes didnt break in a fashion that sucks the hot water up. Shocker, it was the water heater. $750 down the drain on a new water heater because their support refuses to actually help.

Long story short, back in 2010 I had the chance to have a brand spanking new Rheem oil burner installed for free to replace a very good, reliable and well-running oil burner, which was installed way back in 1979 as a new unit and never had a problem with it. Boy do I wish that I still had that unit, over this four-year old piece of junk. It might have been a little tired, as I was told, but so what, after 31 years - what do you expect - its normal wear and tear. From day one, upon the installation of this Rheem unit, it has been a problem with the smell of raw, unburned oil coming up through the heating vents. It doesnt happen all of the time, but it shouldnt be happening at all. It is nasty when this happens and you never know when it will strike again. I have contacted the clowns who installed this unit, of course they portray the three stooges 21st century style - they are totally clueless in Massachusetts. I wont even allow them into my house for a third time. I contacted the public assistance agency who was instrumental in my receiving this wonderful product. I have called them only six times in the last four years concerning this problem. I am told consistently by the same person, each time, that there is nothing that they can do about it. I have asked them if anyone else of the approximately 120 homes that have had these furnaces installed has had this problem with their unit. I am told no, that I am the only one. I suppose that this is possible, but a bit unlikely, I feel. Even though this agency takes the lowest bidder, I dont know who or what to believe, or not. I have only contacted Rheem four times in the last year and you never hear back. So now I am thinking BBB, possibly FTC, or some other applicable agency. Maybe sue Rheem, the installer, or the assistance agency. It is hard when you dont know what to do. I suppose that I could go to one of my elected officials, I am so sure that these underpaid $120,000.00 per year cronies are real interested in helping out with something like this. Thanks for reading this.

I have a Rheem HVAC system. It is 6 years old. Furnace goes out every winter, AC goes out every summer. Although the parts are covered under warranty, I have to pay labor. Additionally, I have to sweat or freeze until it is fixed. Contacted customer support, no help or empathy whatsoever. Dont get RHEEMED by this company.

This company was rated highly, but then they started having their product made in China. After 4 years our water heater started leaking. It is covered under warranty, but not installation. At this point, it is hard to find a distributor that even carries Rheem due to their product becoming so poorly made. Do yourself a favor and less headaches... Dont buy Rheem.
