I purchased two Brand new Trane 15 Seer Air Conditioning/Heat Pump Units, from a reputable HVAC Company, whom also installed the units. I was told Trane was the top of the line and worth paying more to have the best, peace of mind, 10 year warranty, etc. Its been less than two years and one of my units needs a new evaporator coil. The part is under warranty, but the labor is going to cost me $800!! The AC Guy told me that they dont make Trane Units like they used to. The parts arent made by trane, theyre either made in China or Mexico and Trane doesnt stand behind them. The AC Guy also told me that there are so many bad Coils that theyre on back order. Im very disappointed in Trane products and dont recommend spending the extra money.

The old Carrier unit (installed in the mid 80s) finally died three years ago. Since I retired from Trane after 25+ years I wanted a Trane heat pump. Every winter since it was installed we have had Dirty Sock Syndrome. It makes the entire house smell just like dirty socks. Never had this issue with the Carrier unit all those years. The Trane dealer cleans the unit and the smell goes away till the next winter. However, my dealer is now saying if this next cleaning doesnt work we should look into purchasing and installing ultra violet lighting to kill the bacteria. Why doesnt Trane assume responsibility for the problem?

I own my own home now for 20 yrs. The builders a/c was not to my liking, to many breakdowns, so I had a Trane installed. I now have it over 10 yrs and have not had one service call except for the yearly maintenance service to keep it running at maximum precision. The outside unit surprisingly, runs quietly, even after 10 1/2 yrs. If and when I have to replace my present A/C, I would definitely get a Trane a/c again.

We have a Trane heat pump and electric furnace. The whole system is 11 years and 2 months old. The heat pump has to be replaced because the compressor is shorting out. When I contacted the Trane company, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty was only 10 years. I thought Trane was such a great product! I would never recommend this product to anybody!

We installed an XL15 system in our home - heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler - a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

We have 11 Trane furnaces installed in a house built 7 years ago. We have replaced 5 evaporator coils and now have another one we have to replace. The excuse we hear is that this was a manufacturing problem where copper was used instead of aluminum. There are tons of problems itemized on the internet related to quality problems. Every time we replace one, it costs $1,300 and all we get are excuses. Ill tell whoever will listen that they should not buy Trane products. I have never had a problem with any furnaces in any home we have ever lived in, which has been two previous homes (one for 10 years and another for 27 years). No interest from anyone from Trane to provide any assistance or demonstrate any interest in helping to reduce the cost and accept responsibility for faulty engineering design. Im actually surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit filed since it is common knowledge that there was a major engineering design flaw.

We replaced our entire HVAC system in 2008 with a Trane heat pump and gas furnace. We got a 10 year warranty, which we used extensively. The warranty ran out in February of 2018 and I found out today that the blower motor has burn out, again. Previously the blower motor was replaced under warranty. Now it will cost $1,500 to replace the blower motor. I will never buy another Trane product and wont even buy from a HVAC company that sells Trane.

XL18I AC system - Purchased and had the unit installed in Dec 2007 in a new house. The first year I went through a summer 2008 it did not cool properly. Had to configure the temp shutoff in the attic unit. The 3rd year 2010, had to replace the circuit board in the blower/condenser coil in the attic. The 5th year 2012 had to replace a relay on the blower/condenser unit in the attic. The 6th year 2013 the capacitor had to replaced in the outside unit. The 7th year 2014 the capacitor set had to be replaced again. The 8th year 2015 the condenser coils had to be replaced along with the expansion valve and refrigerant. This year (the 9th) 2016 I have had to have service person in again. He originally replaced the switching valve and the expansion valve and it worked the weekend and then went out again. Service person came in and pulled the expansion valve and it was plugged with trash. Installed a filter drier and is still not cooling. This is the biggest POS I have ever owned in my life. Warranty is about to run out and I have had it. Labor and freon cost are killing me.

Just had a new XV18 air conditioner installed with all the bell & whistles. But when the fan is in continuous run mode it shuts off every time the AC comes on. So at night when the ac has to cool the house 1 degree the fan shuts off. The house goes quiet while cooling, then the fan comes back on, that is not the definition of continuous. Have contacted Trane many times asking if this is how the system operates or is there a problem. Neither Trane nor the dealer that installed the unit have been able to answer this simple question in 2 weeks. Trane just tells me to call the installer, and since the installer cannot answer the question I do not understand why it is so hard for Trane to get me to the right person at the company that knows the equipment.There are other issues with the unit in regards to noise & vibration in the wall, but I do not want the installer to put any more work into the unit if we cannot solve the fan issue. So now everything is on hold and I am not getting an answer. Has anyone else had this problem? If Trane cannot help with a basic question I am concerned about if they will back the equipment. Seems once you have it the problem is yours not theirs. Bad customer support & service.

I have 6 Trane units at my restaurant, 2.5 years old, I have had to replace condenser coil in one unit, no a compressor in another unit. Of course with commercial they only give a one year warranty, the units constantly back up with water. I thought I was buying the best, I have had 2 for their online thermostats go out at 500 a pop. Leaking freon, argggg, nightmare, I called the manufacturers rep about the parts going out on the systems and left with, Too bad so sad.

We replaced a failing heat pump with what we thought was the Gold Standard - a Trane system with a 10 YEAR warranty. The system performed admirably for 4 summers, but when hot weather came to Virginia this year, the system stopped cooling b/c of what the installer indicated was a poorly located copper tube that had split and allowed the refrigerant to escape. We assumed it was an installation error that would be covered by the warranty, but in fact, the technician said the units are made that way. Four weeks later and over $1,500 of labor and service charges [$800 of which is 2 occasions of lost refrigerant] we are still waiting for parts because we balked at paying an additional $300 for expedited shipping. It may be Hard to STOP a TRANE, but from our experience, its even HARDER to START a TRANE!

I had an XV20i heat pump installed with a Tam 8 air handler and the top of the line thermostat. This was a $12,000 purchase. The unit was installed two and a half years ago. Ive had nothing but continual and still ongoing problems. My installing dealer went out of business so Ive had to pay for labor during a time the labor should have been covered under warranty. To date Ive paid $1,000 in labor charges since installation, not to mention the constant headaches with the unit being down. Trane did refund me approximately $280.00 in labor charges a few months back. However, when I was offered that amount I expressed my displeasure with the amount and was told take it or leave it. When my dealer went out of business, I contacted Trane customer service asking what I should do and if there were any dealers in my area that knew how to work on these newer units. I was given a list of dealers (which I kept).Every dealer I called on the list told me they didnt service my area. So I was on my own. I called a local Trane dealer out of the phone book. He was very honest and told me his company didnt service these type of units due to their complexity. He referred me to another dealer. I was told this dealer sells a lot of high-end equipment and they know what they’re doing. The dealer I was referred to has been to my house 4 times since April 2016, just as recent as 3 days ago.As Im writing this review my unit is down again. On their first service run I was told my outside unit need a software upgrade to 2.0 and a new personality module which I paid them to install. The unit ran fine during the summer, but now that its cold problems have returned, and as I stated it is down again. This unit is clearly a LEMON. Since it obviously cant be repaired correctly, I want Trane to furnish me a new unit installed. I have a stack of work orders, which I previously submitted to Trane. Of course I have even more now.

OK... purchased new Trane HVAC with CleanEffects Air Cleaner in November 2011. In July 2012, returned from vacation to find that fan had quit working. Fixed in 2 days. In July 2014, the CleanEffects quit working - diagnosed as a bad door which contains the electronics. Waited 2 weeks for part. Called installer who said the Trane was having a problem supplying the part as they had changed to a new company to manufacture the units and parts for the CleanEffects. Installer said that he was trying to get local distributor to provide the door from a unit in stock but to date that has not been accomplished.I sent email to Trane and received response stating that they hoped to have backlog of parts orders caught up by mid-August 2014. My concern and disappointment with Trane stems from the fact that the company and its distributors appear quite ready to sell CleanEffects units on hand knowing full well they cannot support the product and are at the same time ignoring needs of current owners of the units. Trane seems to have a problem maintaining parts inventories for their products. I would certainly advise anyone to steer clear of buying the CleanEffects air cleaner as Im not convinced that it does much of anything when it does work.

My 35 year old Rheem system finally bit it in 9-2008. I called around for 10+ quotes for a new heat pump system and the contractor I chose Installed a new 4 ton Trane heat pump system. My first repair call was less than a week after install. Less than a year later, there had been around 10 service calls and the installer refused to make any more calls because he was losing so much money. I found another Heat/AC company and he has been outstanding in his work, but I have not made it 3 months without some kind of system parts failure.Now the warranty is out (5 years) and the compressor is bad. Shopping around and I find out it will be the same cost for the repairs as it will to replace system. So far in 5 1/2 years, I have spent around $5000 in parts and service calls for a $4000 system. Trane will not return calls or answer my emails. Needless to say, I will not be buying a new Trane...

Purchased an American Standard (owned by Trane) HVAC in spring 2017. In spring 2018, the AC was not cold. Technician diagnosed the problem: leaking indoor coil. He replaced and recharged it, then told me that the $545 for labor/refrigerant was NOT covered under warranty - only parts are. When he sensed my outrage, he explained he was on my side and told me to call Trane Customer Service. I did - case #**. They explained the warranty to me (as if I needed that), and I made it clear that it IS A JOKE. How can a company stand by their product when they are asking consumers to incur cost for THEIR MISTAKES! When the supervisor realized I was not going to stop complaining (no yelling, no cursing), she asked if there was anything else she could help me with, to which I answered you have not helped me at all, and then she hung up on me as I began my next sentence... DO NOT BUY TRANE/AMERICAN STANDARD!!!

I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil rusted out and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.

I read a lot of these complaints, and some are easy to fix the problem. Example if your going thru ignitors, have your tech check the ground on the unit and maybe the house. Should cure that. Some say on high heat it overheats and shuts down and starts again. Ok duct may be undersized, filter clogged, A-Coil clogged with pet hair, dirt, etc. As far as brands go, Trane doesn't seem to have the class actions like a lot of them do. Believe it or not, it is not the evil equipment you may think, it might have an easier explanation. If you have one that works for a while quits and two hours later, the drain trap is clogged. When it finally drains down it allows the pressure switch to close and works till it's full of water again. Lighten up people… The dealers don't want it breaking down on you either…

I have Trane XV95 furnace installed 5 years ago. It start to fall apart now. Control board is replaced recently, the new control board uses 120 V for ignitor. I use Comfy service guy to install it. He just put the new control board and didnt tell me my old 80 V ignitor need to be changed to use the new 120 V ignitor. So in the three weeks, it burned out two ignitor until I found out this fact.I has really bad experience with Trane product and Comfy service. If you dont have knowledge about furnace, it is really easy to be ripped off from service guy. Imagine my furnace ignitors get burned and burned continuously just because service guy dont tell you the new control board need 120V ignitor instead of 80V ignitor, and you keep buying a 80V ignitor.

I find it hard to read all these negative reviews about Trane. I am Canadian and sell and install Trane furnace's, A/C, Heat pumps and air handlers since 1991 with very little issues at all. I sell a 10 year parts and labour program with every piece of equipment just to make our customers more comfortable with the equipment and if it is required it protects them from any charges for 10 years. I am thinking that the installs that I am reading about are not done to manufacturer's specification which is very important to follow or the equipment will not work properly and or the installers are not properly trained or qualified. There are contractors here also that are not qualified and only care about getting your money, Trane will take away your dealership if you have continuous install problems.

Purchased an expensive Trane HVAC unit 3 1/2 years ago and have had to replace the coil twice. This last time the coil leaked and caused the panel doors to crack according to the technician. The coil is under warranty but the labor to replace this piece is not and neither is the cost of the panel doors nor the labor to install them. The total cost with labor is over $1000. Trane is not taking any responsibility for the panel doors. I am contacting the Attorney General of Florida with this problem because I have been told by people in the HVAC industry that Trane products have become substandard and break down often. I do not think that I should be responsible for paying when an inferior product is being sold.

My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.

Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008. We wanted a heat pump to get away from Oil & save money every year - so far not the case. NOTE: Filters were changed every 2 months regularly. Unit was fully serviced every fall. Dec. 2010 - went away for Christmas holiday - returned home to find exterior compressor in a 6 solid block of Ice. Service tech found a leak inside of the gases due to faulty valve. Jan. 23, 2013 - Fan blower motor gone! Part covered under Tranes 5 yr warranty - but not service labor to replace it. Jan. 16, 2015 - Fan Blower Motor GONE Again!! (was -27 cel. in N.S.). Ordered in a new one direct from Trane manufacturer, arrived, service tech found shaft was bent - so he rejected it. (I guess Trane doesnt do a QC check on parts when they build them or when they leave the facility). Had to Air frt. in a new motor once again. Jan. 22, 2015 $1200 later & Heat pump back working!!! Nothing Rides Like a Trane HA!! - Most Tranes I know have a reliable Engine!!

Built a new house and installed a new TRANE heat pump, finished in fall of 2019. We started using the AC this summer. After 2 months it stopped working. The aluminum Chinese evaporator coil failed with a massive leak on the hottest week of the summer. Not even a year old and it needs a new coil. It will not hold refrigerant for even a day. AVOID TRANE AND CHINESE COILS.

We installed two Trane XLi20 units five years ago. The first floor unit has performed flawlessly. The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Id love to join in.

Variable speed air handler manufactured by Trane has a motor failure after 11 years? Trane boasts about their rigorous testing yet with light residential use, my air handler motor FAILS??!! AND it is just beyond the 10 year warranty. Well isnt that convenient? This is unacceptable considering the amount of money paid for this product and the time and money spent in twice yearly preventative maintenance. I was hopeful that I was buying a quality product given the amount of money paid for my a/c system. I wont do it again and strongly urge others to consider Carrier or Amana over Trane. Expensive lesson learned.
I have owned a 31/2 Ton Trane over/under package heat pump since June 2011
I have owned a 31/2 Ton Trane over/under package heat pump since June 2011 and it has performed faithfully without the need for service. My electric bill is reasonable too. I have maintained the system by keeping the filter clean (permanent filter) and flushing the evaporator and condenser coils. In South Florida, when I needed heat it did the job.

September 24, 2011, we purchased the entire Trane Duel Fuel System from McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning Service of Virginia for $10,000. This included a variable speed 2-stage furnace, top-of-the-line Trane heat pump, new coils, and a whole house humidifier. The system worked for a year. In September 2012, we started to get error messages on the thermostat. Since calling McCrea to fix this system, they have been here seven (7) times. The problems were no outdoor temperature reading, the system not being able to switch from heat pump to furnace when the temperature dropped below 35 degrees, and the humidifier stopped working. Most of these issues are related to a defective relay panel, which Trane apparently doesn’t keep in stock, or they break quite often and they can’t keep them in stock. The system still does not work as advertised and has not worked correctly for five (5) months. I do have a service contract with McCrea, and all repairs have been under warranty, but the system still doesn’t work correctly.

It sounds like a D9 Cat working hard. Trane sends out a rep who says its within company standards. Im at my wits end with this Trane heat pump. What can I do. We cant afford another 13000.00 to replace the Trane.

Presently the unhappy owner of a Trane XE 90 - which was reported to be the best available by several dealers at the time of purchase. Over a period of the most recent 6 years this Trane unit has consumed $2,061.50 in parts and labor costs which consisted of a blower motor, four control boards, a flame rollout switch, a heat exchanger, a new thermostat and, just yesterday, $339 for the (20 minutes actual labor time) replacement of a $29.72 igniter. The control board was constantly being diagnosed, by Trane service representatives, as the problem with erratic heat and blower start up. After the third control board replacement, I contacted the White Rodgers Engineer that designed the board and he arrived our home, removed the board, installed a new one then took two of the old boards to their lab. Findings were that there is something else going on with the furnace so they contacted Trane.Trane sent their service representative to check our furnace out - after which a new heat exchanger was installed along with a flame rollout switch. The furnace has not run right for 6 years now and just yesterday it quit igniting. The local Trane repair service charged me $75 for a part that was priced by an internet retailer at $29.72. The labor cost was $309.28 for the technician who arrived at 3:50 p.m. and was out of our driveway at 4:15 p.m. Needless to say, this is $742.27 per hour which is 3.7 times the hourly cost of the surgeon that did my triple heart bypass surgery. I agree that Trane, and their service network, are probably the poorest example of product reliability and service on the U.S. market. I am of the belief that Trane owners are victims of being sold a bad product that technicians can not properly repair and Trane should be held accountable to their product owners as defendant in a class action law suit.

I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. Its obviously Hard To START A Trane.

I was a Trane dealer in the new home market. Profit on these jobs are minimal and are eaten up by problems with equipment warranty. I didnt have many problems with the R-22, 13 seer equipment. When I moved to R410a, we had several expansion valve failures. I had to eat the cost of replacing the part, which was mileage, travel time and labor. When my builder pushed me to sell the 15 seer Tranes with 410a refrigerant, hell broke loose. These indoor coils are very thin and are highly susceptible to formicary corrosion from drywall, carpet and various new home products. Trane refused to acknowledge the problem and I replaced $28,000 worth of evaporator coils in 2012. I had to jump through hoops to prove the leaks existed in order to receive a warranty coil and was unable to get any assistance from Trane to recoup my expense to make things right with the customer. These coils would be a little over a year old typically, just out of labor warranty. Now most customers laughed at buying the extended labor warranty at installation and I could have charged for the labor to replace the coil. However, I dont have the mind of large corporations, so I would eat the cost to make it right by the customer. Trane quietly tried treating the coils to resolve the issue. Now they dont leak. Now they stink. When I walked from Trane, I was being called out a lot on coils that would run you out of the house with dirty sock syndrome. This is a problem that requires extensive work to remedy the problem. I had enough and walked away from Trane. Keep in mind this is in new modular homes. I cant say I had the same issues in older homes. Buy the extended warranty if you buy Trane. Labor costs of $900 to replace a coil or expansion valve are true when you think about everything that must be accomplished to accomplish the job. A variable speed motor or motor end change is several hundred dollars as well. One repair justifies a warranty and the annual service check cost. Remember that the guy fixing your unit isnt the guy who drove to Mexico and built it. It costs a lot of money to drive that mobile shop up and down the road to your house. The heat pump in your backyard works harder than anything you own. Take care of it. Your elected government/party makes no difference, has dictated units to meet high efficiency standards. The units are more sophisticated than ever and costs are going up a lot faster than your pay raise. Be careful of the HVAC company you call to service your unit. Parts and equipment sales are the goal of a good number of companies - large or small. If you price shop for cheap, then you are cheap and get what you deserve. Now is the time to ask your co-workers and neighbors who they recommend, not when you are broken down, looking online for someone you know nothing about. If you find a company that treats you well, shout it from the rooftop. You may save a neighbor some anguish.

Replaced a 14-yr old 5-ton RHEEM split system with a new 5-ton XV20i condenser (matched field - XC80 gas furnace and 5-ton evaporator coil in the attic). Well, I was surely sold on looks and the rhetoric of what it can do - a variable speed (720 speeds) of compressor and furnace, Wi-Fi capable, energy-efficiency, etc. Right from the start I realized there is something fundamentally wrong with this AC system. As an example, lowering the temp. from 75 to 73 degrees takes over an hour to achieve (with inside humidity of 50% and outside temp just below 90 degrees). My old Rheem unit, before going out (due to its evaporator coil leaking) would take about 5 mins (for sure no more than 10 mins under similar conditions). After the system was installed I thoroughly inspected each and every duct supply coming out of the new plenum for leaks and found none. Please note, I did not have new ducts installed, so my existing ones were used with the new system. Also, the new system was connected to the existing freon lines (that run from the outside unit to the attic). I believe, if the freon lines (hidden as they pass thru walls and to the attic) are leaking (thus showing that the system is undercharged), the thermostat would detect such and give an error code. But no alerts or error code(s). When the unit is cooling (fan blower is on), there is a loud, annoying noise coming from one of the two return vents. When at night, being quiet, the noise is so loud that we can not stand it and takes us longer to fall asleep.Asking the install company to investigate/resolve an issue is like asking for a discount after you already paid them for the service - after being paid for their service, they are gone/done with you! Making things worse, calling Tranes customer service is just a joke - long wait time, untrained / uninformed customer service people. The company does not have any tech support. The company does not have a field rep like other HVAC manufacturers do. You get ZERO support from this company and you will immediately feel unwelcome when talking to them.As a result, we have nowhere to go, no help from Trane at all!!! Their response was call your installer or an authorized Trane dealer for help. Well, calling another dealer for service, after you tell them you had a brand new system installed a week ago, they will shy away (not wanting to deal with another installers flaws). Trane knows that and they do not care. This is TOTALLY unacceptable! Folks, this is a bad company, PERIOD!! Think twice before you buy their products. This has been an ongoing nightmare... cannot cool the house efficiently and cannot sleep at night from the noise. All of these because of Trane (an unorganized company making flawed products and providing zero tech support)! SHAME ON YOU TRANE!

I just read 2 recent reviews that are my story!!! Omg! If someone wants to do a class action against Trane for this recurrent issue, I am in. The coil is defective and leaked coolant. The unit had been shutting down hard and sounded like it was going to explode. I also had a $500 electric bill. My HVAC company came out Saturday and put 10lbs!!! of Freon in a 14lb system. They had to order the warrantied coil. They informed me the labor and Freon would be around $1150!!! The manager reduced the price to $850, and told me to call Trane as they knew Trane worked with residential owners. Well, if you got the rep I did, I have no idea how you get anything from them. Christina was no help. She kept telling me that Freon is from a 3rd party vendor. I don’t want Freon from Trane. She also said Trane is only responsible for the part, not the Freon one or labor. But if you just admitted responsibility for the functioning of the part that keeps coolant in, your part didn’t do what you said it is supposed to. So, I paid $10000 for the unit which we are in our last year paying for. I paid $200 for Freon from a previous HVAC visit suspecting a leak with dye and found nothing. Then, the $850 I am paying tomorrow, right before our next winter event in Texas, plus the increase in the electric bill last month and most likely this month. When the tech came out Saturday at 9am, the system had gone into emergency heat on 14!!! occasions. So, I will be lucky if the electric bill is only $500 this next month. If your part fails that is responsible for keeping the coolant flowing through the unit, you are responsible Trane, for the cause and effect from that failed part which is you owing me and the others on this feed money for an obvious issue with the coil!

When they installed our furnace in 2012 they also installed the air conditioning coils but the outdoor unit was not installed until a year later. Therefore, the air conditioning coils were not in use until that time. Our AC failed less than 5 years later and the cause was the air conditioning coils. Not only were we without air conditioning during a record heat wave, we had to pay nearly 1200 in repairs. I have had a very bad experience with the Customer Escalation Department at Trane. They told me that even though the unit was clearly not in use for 5 years, they could not and would not provide any compensation for our costs. We chose American Standard because we thought we were purchasing from a good company who would stand behind their product. We were so wrong!

Trane dealer installed a new Trane heat pump system in Summer 2016. I regret I did not read the reviews online. The system started having problems in winter 2018. Dealer checked it and said the heater in air handler was broken and needed replacement. Then defrost board and fan motor in heat pump were found broken. The condenser coil could also be leaking. I was shocked by all these major issues. Dealer just told me I was unlucky to get a bad system. I was asked to pay about $900 labor fee since only parts are under warranty. In addition, there could be other issues since testing could not be done without replacing the parts. So whole system is a junk. I complained to dealer manager, then to Trane customer service, then escalated to supervisor. I sent them all the documents they asked for, but never heard from them. Whenever I called them, I was transferred many times and held for one hour, but nothing was done. I emailed them many times, but no reply. People working at Trane just don’t care. Do not buy Trane products, because you will regret.

I live in SW Virginia, which means it gets pretty hot in summer and cold in winter as we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. It's been known to get down to zero around here upon occasion. This really is a wonderful unit. It has a 10 year warranty which is really good. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend or to buy it again. Love it! It's Energy Star rated and has brought my electric bill down considerably. It was only $113.00 last month down from over $200.00! If you are looking to buy a furnace or heat pump I would highly suggest you look at Trane first. It's the best one out there by far!

Do you stand behind your product from assembly line to customer. Or do you pass the buck too. On 2/29/2008, I bought a Trane HV/AC System for $7306.88. The heat pump was an XL14i and the Train Air Handler was an innovation system that was going to be like a breath of fresh air with variable-speed control. Both systems promised very high tech features, to include quiet, high efficiency, durable, clean air, first rate warranties, and reliability -- do this words sound familiar. These are the features that were promised to my wife and me. Now, I have a piece of junk and I will never recommend to anyone to buy a Trane or Standard AC unit. We have to keep replacing parts and it keeps making a clanking noise when the heating cycle shuts-off. Now, the Trane certified service agent states that my units cannot be matched and I have to live with the problem and they will keep charging me for the visits because Trane/Standard Extended Warranty will not cover it. What a mess. Your company is not holding dealers accountable for the services and your product is not reliable. I need help. No one seems to want to do the right thing. They keep passing the buck.

After much research, we choose an American Standard Heat Pump and Air Handler because of Consumer Report listing their product as top in reliability. Complete system was installed in January of 2016 by Speedy Air Conditioning of Port St Lucie, FL. Since that time, we have had three (3) evaporator coil failures and, last month, the compressor and condensing fan motor failed. This system has a complete failure in every aspect. We are requesting a complete new system, including heat pump and air handler, and were deeply disappointed when the request for a new heat pump, rather than a repair, was rejected.The dealers owner/manager, David Binder, has written that in almost 43 years of HVAC industry experience, I cannot recall ever replacing 3 evaporator coils and having also a condensing fan motor and compressor fail all within the first 4 and a half years of a system being installed, and hope this information will assist you in acquiring replacement equipment from the Manufacturer.

If I have problems with repairing a Trane unit, the only option that I have is to call Trane Tech support. In 29 yrs, I have called them a handful of times and never have I talked to Tech support. I have left messages and in 1 case they have called back 2 days later when I wasnt in front of the system to check what they asked me to check. I install and repair units and Trane has made the list of units that I wont sell or recommend!!!!

In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil. I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to help me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, dont have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FLs coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product! After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked whats their reimbursement standard. He said they didnt even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didnt do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017. However she still couldnt explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me its my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANEs customer service. I requested her supervisors contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didnt agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!

I had a Trane Heat Pump installed January 2014. Initially it was quiet and shut off the same... quietly. Because the compressor is close to my living room wall and the handler is up in the bedroom attic, this issue is quite important to me. The air-handler revs up and pulsates before the unit kicks on and then since it is a two-stage unit, it does the same when it shuts off. Its very annoying when I am trying to sleep at night. The outside unit which is located on the ground outside the living room runs quietly enough until it shuts off. It shuts off very hard and very abruptly causing the metal unit to sound like someone just hit it real hard with a rubber mallet. And then it continues to vibrate probably due to the fact that the metal that is used is so thin it cannot absorb it, I am guessing. Ive heard it go off half way down the block when I am out front. Its kind of startling. I had a routine maintenance check this week and mentioned this to the repair man. He went out and drilled something and it seemed okay but for only two days. Now it is the same as it was before. As far as the air handler, he said that that was its way of talking to the outdoor unit and it was normal. Thats just the way they work he said. All in all, I wish I would not have bought this system. I also will, in the future, deal with a company that takes my concerns seriously and fixes the problem... right. I am stuck with this unit for a while now so I guess I will have to make the best of it... somehow. In the meantime, I plan on calling Trane tomorrow (good luck, huh, from what Ive been reading) to see what might be up. I also will be calling the service company to tell them their fix didnt fix the problem. On the positive side, this system does cool well and my power bills are lower which is a great thing since I live in the desert. However, it is definitely coming at a price... my rest and peace of mind and the peace of my neighbors. Their patio is on the side of where my a/c unit is located.

I have had nothing but trouble with the unit since installed 4 yrs ago in 2012. The coil failed after the first 14 month in 2013, which I was told was an $1800 job had it not been covered by 2 yr labor warranty (thank God for me). The past 2 years I have had to have it serviced for AC failure twice! Each time it was for a different reason, but both resulting in leakage of Freon. The first year it was from a loosened Schroeder. This past repair was from for a leak at txv, a7# Freon leak!I have a great local company who worked with me on labor charges and recommended I contact TRANE for potential replacement. Their customer escalation department is a JOKE. I requested for them to replace my unit as there has been a problem each year and a major component failure with the coil. They basically said, sorry for the inconvenience but we cant do anything except pay half of your last charge (which totaled $274 of $550). It would have been closer to $800 as the labor was 3 1/2 hours but my HVAC company only charged an hour. Sheena **, the escalation rep did nothing but drag her feet for 2 months and offered me real compensation that I deserve.I honestly think I got a lemon or their product just has deteriorated so bad that they cant even stand behind it anymore. I had my downstairs unit replaced the year before this TRANE with a Carrier and havent had the first minutes trouble with it. I wish Id gone with Carrier again! I upgraded to a Trane or at least I thought is as I was told that it was a good size for my home. The Trane broke 3 times in 3 weeks due to connection of the drain and I notice that this air doesn’t keep my room cold. I have to leave my door open and even like that it gets hot at certain times. My old one used to freeze me. I don’t recommend Trane. My nephew is looking for a new air and I mentioned to him what I have gone through and Trane is out for his home. I don’t recommend Trane. Expensive junk- deceptive customer service. We had a split system installed in our sunroom as part of a major home renovation project. The unit functioned erratically the whole time. We were told by the contractor that it was to be expected or maybe we were not using it right. Last December, 14 months later, the condenser died due to condensation turning it into a solid block of ice. We contacted a Trane certified repair company and found out our product has not been registered for the three year warranty, and the one year basic warranty had expired.I contacted Trane, to explain that my husband and I were not at fault for this, and asked them to stand behind their product and help us out. I wasnt expecting a full replacement or even 100% part replacement, but at least 50%. Their response after almost two months of back and forth, providing all sorts of information and getting transferred to three tiers of customer service levels, was to offer us 15% off a new unit. $315 for a $2200 installation! So much for standing behind their products! I guess I should have checked this site first and noted the one star rating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because I believe three out of the four CS reps truly tried to help, but it came down to the Escalation Specialists who dropped the hammer on my hopes for a decent resolution.

Here it is 12 years later and I am still dealing with a product that I would NEVER recommend to my worst enemy. Not only did they install a lemon of a furnace TWICE, but I was told the furnace was too small for my home & the A/C was too large. I purchased a home in September 2012 and learned that the A/C unit was not working (found out on the day I closed). I advised seller that I would not move forward with purchase if I had to replace a major appliance like an A/C unit. Seller agreed to replace and I agreed to replace furnace portion of package to avoid a greater cost should the furnace not work. I started noticing the A/C heating up at certain parts of the day and thought I needed to readjust thermostat. After several days of increasing temperatures during the day I decided to call a service technician only to learn that I had no refrigerant in my system. Further investigation showed a leak in the coil. I called the company who installed and they said the part was no longer under warranty and that the warranty was only for 1 year. I decided to call the service technician back and advised him what the installing company said and he advised me that the part that is not working is under warranty and that Trane is aware of the defect with the type coils they use. So the part was definitely under warranty. It turns out that the Tech was correct and Trane provided the coil at no charge, however, I was stuck with a $575.00 labor charge for a unit that is only 2 years, 10 months old. While I am pleased with the work that the Tech did on the unit and how quickly he came to repair and how thoroughly he cleaned up the area after he completed the work, I immediately changed my servicing company. If Trane is aware of this defect, why are they allowed to keep selling a piece of equipment (part) that is obviously defective when they know it is going to fail? While they do not make money off selling the part it still costs consumers labor cost - in my case, $575.00. My dissatisfied rating is because Trane knowingly sells this defective merchandise that would cost consumers huge labor costs in such a short time. How can they do this?

I work for the major electric utility in Northwest Florida. We work closely with all the local heating and cooling dealers in our area. Without some sort of proper resolution to this continual problem, I will never recommend another Trane product to both our dealers as well as our customers. Our employees are considered the Energy Experts and feel it is my responsibility to be truthful and forthcoming to the public about the poor quality/service provided by Trane. Consumers beware!

I wish I had seen all the complaints on the internet before purchasing my furnace and A/C units. Trane obviously has a Quality problem for which their warranties are inadequate. I will not be purchasing another Trane product and I will make sure that my neighbors (neighborhood & internet) are made aware of Tranes numerous bad reviews. They are obviously more interested in their bottom line than in their products.

Hello, I recently purchased a TRANE heat pump unit (September 2018) Model numbers: Heat pump - 4TWV8036A1000BB. Air Handler - TAM9AOB3OV31DAA. Tstat - TCONT85OAC52UA. The unit worked as described with no problems until about a month ago. Then it started to malfunction. I contacted the installing dealer and they came out to find that mice had moved into the control unit area of the heat pump and chewed through several wires which made the unit malfunction.I have lived in this house for the past 12 years and never had an issue with mice in my old unit. I purchase a TRANE and after 6 months of use I have to pay out $200.00 in repair bills due to mice. I did some research online and found out that this is a major problem with the type of heat pump I have because for 1 it has a heating unit in the control area which draw mice in the winter to find a warm place to live and 2 it appears that no effort was made by the product engineers to seal those areas up or to even put the wires in an enclosed unit, I was also informed by the technicians that did the repairs that this is a major issue and they see mice doing damage to units all the time. I am very disappointed in this product and wonder how much it is going to cost me down the road for repairs as I cant keep a daily watch on the unit and will not know if mice are chewing up the wires at any given time. I would suggest that TRANE take a better look at the design of the unit and come up with a way to better protect the control area and wires and if nothing else recommend that dealers who install the unit let the customer know that mice like the warm place in the unit and might chew it up costing major repairs and money to fix. I would not recommend the TRANE heat pump to anyone because of this issue and will not purchase any type of TRANE product in the future. The other issue is with the thermostat - model 850. Seems that it has an issue with heat buildup in the display and causes the unit to display a higher temp than the set point. Had to have the installing dealer come out after the heating season started to adjust the calibration set point for the indoor temp to make the unit function showing the displayed temp and the actual room temp the same. This seems to me to be another design flaw which when I did some research online TRANE customers are having the same issues. Very disappointed in my purchase to say the least.

On October 23 2019 Trane dealer from Ormond Beach FL installed Trane® 4TWR4036G1000 XR14 heat pump and Air Handler. According specifications on heat pump it must include Climatuff® compressor. The Climatuff® compressor is the only one Trane uses in its residential systems. Its durable, reliable, and highly efficient. That was the reason I decided to install Trane. My heat pump has a LG compressor. (Number part COM11968). When I ask my dealer why, they just told me they changed it without explanation. I do not know was it a bad unit or installation. They also changed evaporation coils. All in first week. When I called Trane customer service they told me last time they had such problem in August 2016. They advised me to tell my dealer to send unit back to distributor and get a new one. No warranty claims. No invoices for product and parts installation. My system did not pass city inspection because they did not put hurricane pad for elevation. I refuse to have Trane without Climatuff compressor. I am a widow living on VA pension and can not afford to pay for future repairs. I need second opinion from another Trane dealer and resolve this situation as soon as possible because it is affect my health.

I purchased a brand new Trane A/C in July 2011. Now, a year and half later, my A/C stopped blowing cold air. I called out the A/C technician and he informed me that there is a manufacture defect in the condenser units coil. The coil rubs against another piece of metal to cause a hole where the Freon leaks out. My coils had actually 2 holes where the Freon was leaking out. They told me that the coil was under warranty but they would have to charge for labor and Freon and this would cost around $700. I contacted Trane and they told me that they have no control over the prices of labor. I told them that I understood that but requested them if they could get me an A/C technician that they would pay to have it replaced and of course, I have gotten the run around. There is an attorney that is doing the investigation for a class action lawsuit. I really think they have a great case. My other issue is if I pay to have the new coil replaced with the coil Trane sends them for free, who’s to say that I dont have the same problem in another year. Have they made modifications on their coil or is it the same design as the one that has already faulted? Trane needs to stop beating around the bush and recall these faulty coils. Otherwise, word of mouth will cause them to loose a lot of business!

Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.

In heat mode the coil caused the electrical panel to condensate, shorting out the control panel. Trane says because it was not installed by one of their DEALERS the warranty was null and void. I am very dissatisfied with this product and will tell everyone I know how Trane will not address the problems with their design flaws.

Went to turn the AC on in July 2018 and it did not work. Ultimately determined that there was no refrigerant/coolant in the unit. Was also told that there have been ongoing issues with the Trane unit/components breaking. In my case it may be the coil component. At a cost of $550 the unit was refilled with refrigerant and a sealer with the hope that the sealer fixes any potential leaks. We will see. I would not expect a central air conditioning unit that is rarely used to break down after 3 seasons of use.Updated on 09/29/2018: Two month update - the AC unit is not working again. The house is not cooling down. Grrr. I will update again after service/repair technician comes.

After several months of waiting for a response from Trane and sending documentation of my problems they quit communication with me. I had to file a complaint with my state attorney generals office before they would again open communications with me. They told me to put in a new Trane heat pump and they would give me a $500 rebate after it was installed. I told them I would like one of their local factory techs to take a look at my unit. They said no. This was one of the worst experiences i have ever had. I had the Trane unit replaced with a carrier unit at my expense. I will never again buy anything built by Trane. The only thing worse than the Trane heat pump was their customer service.

XV 90 Control Board fried after warranty expired - I had a XV 90 installed in 2004. It has run without issue up until Christmas Eve 2012. Ill spare the horror story around the troubleshooting process to determine the board was fried, but in the end, I ended up forking out $1,100 to have a new control board installed. Symptoms: (1) no heat; (2) it came on once, but that appeared to be its final cycle; (3) fan would still run, so it led me to believe that there was hope. Bottom line: Theres a known problem with the board for the model/serial of my furnace. It was recommended by Trane that a new control board/upgrade kit be installed. I plan to keep it around just so that I feel like I gained something from spending so much on a new control board. The service tech that did the repair mentioned that this is a common occurrence and he carries extra boards in his truck for this very reason - nice.

A month ago, after the one year warranty, the air handler started to leak and after consulting the dealer they ordered a new water pan and they did the installation of that pan. But to install a new pan the coil has to taken out. I was watching this all on the side, but when they took out the coil I saw a damaged coil and stopped them from finishing and took pictures of the damage. The dealer finished the job, I paid him.I filed a complaint against Trane. First I found it unfair to let me pay for that renewing of that pan and second about the damage on the coil. They agree to pay for the repair but the damage on the coil they waved that away. I then filed a complaint through the BBB and the answer of Ms. Erin ** (Consumer Relations Supervisor) was, There is no damage to your coil that is not cosmetic. The functionality, life expectancy, and efficiency will not be negatively affected by the bent spine fins on your evaporator coil.The equipment passed inspection because there is no mechanical damage to the equipment! I would like to say to Ms. **, You should be a great car sales women, you will sell me a car with substantial damage and you use the sentence from above. Functionality, life expectancy and efficiency will not be negatively affect your car. Also, sometimes when a product has a dent or a cosmetic damage, the factory or the dealer will give you a discount because of the damage. The worse of this case is that the coil with the damage passed quality control. So there are probably many of those coils in most of your air handlers. We now talk about the high standard quality Trane will allow us to believe.I already suggested to Ms. ** that if she allows this type of damage on their outside condensers (where you can see the coil), I explained to her that this quality of a condenser would never sell. Im seeking now for, first, a apologize for the way they allow to pass coils with substantial damage and just put them in your air handlers, is just wrong. Secondly, because I expected a brand new, not damaged air handler, a discount on the unit or replacement is in order. Because of all this aggravation and the time I have put into this that discount will be at least 50%. If needed I can add the pictures.

Luckily, we have a 10-year parts and labor warranty on this unit. But it is worse than the old unit we replaced. Now there is a strong chemical odor that fills our house each time the heat runs. Yet, another service call will be needed and another day off from work. This is the biggest piece of junk. Trane always had a good reputation, but I would never purchase another of their products.

Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **.We contacted the Local Authorized Installer the day after the installation to complain about the noise. On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house - the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees.On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was not normal and sounded like metal on metal. They reported that information to the Local Authorized Installer Company Headquarters. On 21 September, the Local Authorized Installer informed me that they had ordered a replacement Motor and Blower Wheel. On 23 September the Installer Company confirmed the parts ordered. Today, 29 September, the Local Authorized Installer stated that they would not install new/replacement parts because Trane Corp HQ would not give them credit for the parts or for a replacement system. Moreover, Trane Corp HQ told the Local Authorized Installer that the noise was normal for this model.We live in a split-level house. The Furnace is in the center of the lower level. The metallic sound travels straight up the intake vents and can be heard in all three bedrooms. I measured the sound on app Sound Meter with results of Decibel (DB) ratings of: Average 74 BD, Max 76 DB when the Air-Conditioner is on (Cooling) and Average 65BD, Max 69 DB with just the fan blowing.Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **: I called Trane Corp customer service department 3 times to request for the Specifications on the Sound Ratings for this model. The air conditioner is XL14i and the gas heater is unit XV90. Since then we have spent well over $2000 in labor costs to keep the unit running. The control board was replaced twice, once in June 2012 and again in March 2013. We came to learn this was due to a design flaw. We have had switches and contacts replaced several times, and are now in the process of having to have the coils replaced. Each time we have had to pay labor costs. We went to Trane and asked for reimbursement of labor for the control boards since it was an obvious design flaw. The same is true of the coils now being replaced. We were flatly turned down the first time, and I am sure we will be turned down again. I have no problem paying labor costs for a part that wears out, but when the problem is design the company should be liable. Take my advice. NEVER buy a Trane. It is a piece of garbage. We have spent several days last summer and this summer with no AC, and this past winter when the heat didnt work because of the control board issue. Fifty eight degrees is not a comfortable temperature in your house. I am angry and disgusted that a company that advertises you cant stop a Trane is so poor at standing behind their product.

My Trane has only lasted 2 years and now I need a new coil supposedly. Of course no warranty on labor so in addition to the 5K I spent 2 years ago, I am now about to drop another 700.00 for service and labor. If this is any indication of how well this unit is going to hold up, I will be buying another unit before this one is even 5 years old. Avoid the TRANE wreck!

I enjoy my two variable speed Trane units. They are quiet and very efficient. After replacing old (23 years) units (also by Trane), I noticed that the electric bill dropped by $50-60 / month in summer time and $20-30 in wintertime. I live in Arizona and the electric bill in summer was $400+. Now it is less than $350. But the best feature is that when the AC unit starts there is no "boom" noise, when the unit starts. What you can hear is just a soft whisper when cool air starts breezing in. I installed one, and 2 years later another one - both Trane. I have two floors, each floor is regulated by one unit. One unit is already 5 years old, another is 2, I signed up for a maintenance service plan, so far no problems at all. Trane seems to be an expensive brand, but I spoke with installers and they say that it is worth the money. I would recommend it - at least to consider - when replacing a unit for a new one.

We have 5 Trane HVAC units and they are 4-5 years old. They have been the source of consistent leaks stemming from coil problems. The Trane dealer who installed them points at Trane and says it is product quality problems. We lost confidence in the service from our installation Trane dealer and the new Trane dealer is much more honest and transparent to explain that these are manufacturing problems. This dealers service people say the coils had manufacturing quality problems so Trane changed the material used in the coils and will not acknowledge this problem or face up to the problem with their customers. I have $2,500 of repairs on these Trane units and some house repairs as well. I have written 2 lengthy letters (with all supporting repair bills to support the problems) in May 2012 and one just recently and received no response from Trane, except my wifes persistence reached a Trane employee by phone on the first letter and this employee said Trane would not do anything. I called their Customer Service # a week ago on our 2nd series of problems and waited for over 1 hour with no response and no follow up response from them even though their customer service # takes your information and says they will call back the same or next day. I emailed their Customer Service 3 days ago and no response to that. In short, Trane is a company with serious product quality problems, and per their lack of willingness to service their customers, doesnt value their customers. I would strongly recommend to anyone building a home or replacing your HVAC systems that you not consider Trane.

Took several days in the middle of summer to get it fixed (labor/410a not included). Then within a couple months the time delay fuse blew twice in a row - the tech eventually replaced it with a similar rated automotive fuse. Now this summer the condenser coil went out and after getting that fixed the blower ECM has died. Over and over, the system keeps breaking in multiple places... Absolute piece of crap. A unit this expensive should last care free for years - not break down 4 times in the first 5 years.

Our residential central air conditioner a Trane XL1200 and XE90 furnace was installed back in 1996. It has been extremely reliable. The air conditioner is service checked once a year and has never failed once. The furnace has had the blower clutch go after about 13 years and start capacitor went after about 14 years. Very minor repairs with not one electrical or major mechanical failure on either. Getting a good contractor for installation is essential. We had the local Trane dealer do the install of which the bulk of their work is commercial installations. Not sure about the other reviewers but I recommend Trane to everybody for the reliability and efficiency.

Im writing this review in regards to Trane air conditioning and heating unit that we purchased in 2015. Just after having unit for six months we had to replace the compressor unit outside. I continue to make calls to the installers of this unit regarding the air-conditioner not cooling. After coming to our house six different times to service the air-conditioner and installing Freon in the unit multiple times. We were told our air-conditioner now require new evaporator coils. The cost would be $995. I then decided to get another opinion of what was wrong with our air conditioner. Each person I had look at the unit had something different to tell me about what was wrong with it. I then decided to call the Trane manufacturer. They gave me a name of a Trane dealer teams. So I called them. They came out, told us that we needed to have the Expansion valve replaced. We did. That was $350, That didnt fix the unit so they had to do a complete unit inspection and have a trane support team tell them what was wrong with it. Now we need evaporator coils replaced. Now its another $950. This air-conditioner is less than two years old and weve had nothing but problems. Trane Will not stand behind their product. Do not buy a Trane.

I had a Lennox builders grade and it was 15 years old and thought I better replace it since it was going to cost me $400.00 to repair because ants got into a part. Well, 4 seasons later the air is not working and the repairman told me there is a leak in the A Coil. I told the repairman I always heard if something goes wrong with the A Coil you need to replace the unit. He said he usually recommends this and it would be over $4000 but since the unit is not even 5 years old he said to just replace the A Coil. The part is under warranty but the labor would be $1200. Good grief!!! This must be a very difficult repair since it costs $1200 to fix. I thought I was buying a good product but now I know not to recommend Trane to anyone. I guess I better hope the furnace works this winter.

I was told by Trane rep the coil part is not covered by warranty because is over 2 years. We have to paid a/c company full price to replace the coil. Now after 3 and half months later its go out again. Many people telling us the Trane coil part is not quality part, broke very easy in the short time. I am extremely upset with Trane a/c unit. It is used a couple months out of the year at a lakefront house in Chicago and was installed 6 years ago. Warranty paperwork says 10 yr warranty. Trane says 5 yr. We are stuck with an inoperative system. It is now August and Trane Customer Service has yet to warranty their product. We are left without an AC unit again this summer - installer wants $4000 to replace a 5/6 year old unit. Trane wont cover compressor or condenser or other failed parts. There are better manufactured HVAC units out there. DONT BUY A TRANE. They do not warranty their products and there is a huge amount of built in obsolescence.

We purchased a Trane XL18i high-efficiency heat pump back in the fall. We have had many issues with the unit since installation. It was initially not installed correctly and continues to not work properly. We thought Trane was a good product, but we are seriously questioning this. Now that the season has changed and we are using A/C for the first time, it does not work correctly. We spent thousands of dollars and NO ONE seems to be able to rectify the issues. We have been given our 3rd thermostat (I dont think theres anything wrong with the thermostats), and Im really not so sure that there isnt a much bigger issue with the installation or unit itself. We believe at this point that the entire installation needs to be checked, including all wiring that was done with it to find the problem and resolve it once and for all. The Trane dealer we used is useless, so we called the Trane 1-800 number and requested a field service rep be sent out. They refused and said that they didnt care about the issue, talk to the dealer. They really dont stand behind their product! We are obviously not alone with this experience, so couldnt we all band together for a class action lawsuit? Any attorneys reading this or does anyone know an attorney who would take this on? I am on board with this. We would love a refund at this point and have them take all the equipment back so we can go with another company. Wishful thinking.

Had a new XL14 Trane heat pump installed in 2008. Line routing on exterior of condenser unit is defective and caused rubbing between two lines until rupture of the line. All freon lost and had to have service call to weld the line and reinstall freon. $605 later, its fixed for the moment but Trane will not stand behind what should be a warranty issue because of the defective pipe routing. Cannot recommend Trane to anyone.

This correspondence is in regards to an erratic and dangerous Trane service vehicle my daughter and I encountered Friday morning (2/12/2016) at 6:30 AM on US 290 at West 43rd in Houston, Texas. I was in the process of taking my daughter to school, the Duchesne Academy in the Memorial area, when we came upon a stalled vehicle in the right lane on the US 290 eastbound main lanes. As usual, the drivers in the adjacent middle lane took turns allowing vehicles from the blocked right lane to merge in. When it came our turn to shift over, the next vehicle intentionally speeded up to block our vehicle from merging in. When it became evident that our vehicle had already moved over before the van could cut us off, the vehicle behind us swerved into the left lane, accelerated past us, got in front of us and slammed on his brakes. For the next two miles the Trane driver continued to slam on his brakes, attempting to cause an accident.Although my daughter and I were not able to get the license plate for the vehicle, we did get the company name plastered all over the vehicle - Trane HVAC Services - Hunton Distribution, Unit 210. In having dealt with Trane personnel elsewhere in the country, I was always impressed with their courteous attitude and professionalism. Needless to say, my family and I are disappointed with the irrational and antagonistic Trane staff weve encountered in Houston to date. This Trane air cond 3 ton wasnt working the day my installer put it in the first year it was installed. Sept 2014 something with a valve and the wrong oil used in this units and Trane knew about this problem. Took over 6 weeks to repair. It was a nightmare. Even my installer didnt want to fix it. Took weeks for a part. They would not rush to help me, my wife and mother in law who had health issues. They were ** on the phone. Now I have a bigger problem with the heat system once again. ** cost me 700 dollars out of my pocket this time. This unit only 3 years old. 200 for shipping, 500 for labor and still waiting for part November 11, 2017. O-rings in the heat exchanger are burnt out like the space shuttle Challenger in 1984. This causes the furnace to run hot and will not lit so now youre in the cold. Check it out on youtube. If you want to be hot in the summer, cold in the winter with a big repair bill Take my advice. Do not even think of buy a Trane AC or heating or whatever else there. Wish I knew beforehand.

Problematic since day one and can’t get trained or repair guy to declare mine a lemon and give me a new unit so stuck repairing repairing repairing every season change always something new. We bought a Trane heat pump about 6 years ago based on dealer recommendations and advertisements. Within the first 3 years every part except the cover was replaced under warranty. Since then we spent about $200 every quarter on repairs. The piece of crap is now 6 years old and the quarterly repairs just keep getting higher. I will never buy another Trane. Based on my experience it is a total piece of crap that cost more than any other product I have ever owned. We replaced a Goodman that I thought was expensive. When we replace this piece of crap Ill buy another Goodman and gladly pay the repair bills. My personal advice DO NOT BUY A TRANE!!!

All dates are estimated. Back in 2009, we had Vailes install a new Trane Heat Pump (outside unit and Air-handler in attic) along with all new flex duct work. After a full summer of running the unit - the dirty-sock syndrome smell came about in our upstairs. We called Vailes and they brought their Trane Rep, Ken **, out to investigate. He tweaked some of the duct work and airflow (speeds) on the air handler and also coated the coils so that it would not make that smell. He also redesigned the ramp so that water would not flow over the ramp...Everything seemed okay - until we had a Mold specialist check out our entire house. He found Mold in the Trane air handler and in the duct work. He found no other issues with the house. We contacted Vailes and shared the Mold report with them. They came out and looked and took pictures to share with their Trane Rep (Ken ** out of Richmond). They came back with a solution of cleaning out the air handler for estimated $500.00 and installing a UV light for another $1,000.00. I replied back with the following request to Vailes: Our game plan is to counter with: to have a Trane Rep come out and look at the situation. Possible solutions: Air flow is set incorrectly (after talking with other large heating and cooling companies). Another red flag: Having 3-4 degree variances in rooms upstairs. Some rooms have an extreme blast of air flow (especially in the winter). Our home was inspected by a professional environmental technician and the house is clean. The only issue is the air-handler in the attic.After discussing this situation further with my wife, father, Riddlebarger, and Landis Heating, they all suggested that Trane should come out and redo/check the air flow. They also think it could be a potential trunk issue as well. I was going to have my wife run with this but I dont want to add anything else to her plate. Will you please contact Trane again with our circumstance? We need to fix the issue and I would like for Trane to be there.Vailes shared this request with Ken ** (Trane Rep in Richmond) and Ken replied back to me with the following: The mold that is growing in the home is a product of the environment that the equipment is in. The Trane (or any other brand equipment) does not produce the bacteria; it already exists in the structure. The effort that needs to be put in is to address the source of bacteria whether it is infiltrating form the crawlspace, attic, basement, windows, fireplace, sewer system, or from the people that live in the house. The bacteria growing in the AHU is happening because it is a nice environment for it to grow (warm and moist) depending on the season but it is not the source. There is nothing that Trane can do to address the structure or the infiltration to the home. Vailes has made some suggestions about accessories that can be added to a system to help manage the bacteria (UV lights, and electronic air filters); these may help reduce the potential for growth in the unit but the bacteria will still be in the home.I was not satisfied with his response so I brought in several other HVAC dealers to analyze the situation. They have all pointed to the duct work and airflow. I could get another HVAC dealer to redo all the duct work but that puts me in a major financial crisis. I feel like they (Vailes and the Trane Rep) should have looked at the situation closer. Obviously, they knew something was wrong from the start when they coated the coils and redid the airflow and ramp shortly after it was installed. I feel like the coated coils only masked the issue. For some reason, we are getting mold in the air handler. Any suggestions? One particular HVAC dealer said that he firmly thinks it is the duct work - because the duct work going to the returns are the biggest he has ever seen on a ton 1/2 unit. He also said there is no trunk line (all lines are coming straight out of the small boxes on the air handler...). Hearing from 4 other HVAC dealer that they think it is the duct work - tells me something. I am meeting with two other HVAC dealers this week as well to see what they think. But it is very disappointing having to go to other dealers to fix this problem. We turned the unit off once the mold was found (back in April). I have a wife and 4 children and need to place some urgency on this.

Had new Trane XL20i Heat Pump installed 10/20/2010. July 2014 Air Handle evaporator leaked, repaired. Then Condenser became erratic, low-pressure issues, numerous service calls, more parts replaced. Left for summer to NJ from FL, came back, low-speed compressor fried. Trane will not assist. Installer is a good company, and Trane simply tells us what we need to hear.First they tell you the service company need to contact distributor then service company tells you that not the way it works. Mentioned to Trane representative Alex, that the inconsistencies between service company understanding and Tranes position leaves me with no options. Want condenser system replaced and mention consumer affairs massive number of reviews complaining and they will no longer talk to you. It is time someone take the lead and file a class action lawsuit as there is a pattern here. I will purchase alternative equipment in the future. Nice going Trane!

Replaced old furnace in our new home. We had new duct work and the Trane v95 put in, 4 months later the ductwork fell down. Then the burners went out on the furnace, had to be replace after 3 months of use, said our basement was too damp. Had to have it serviced again for continuously running and not heating wasting my propane. They said it was our fault we didnt buy the extra warranty. Not everyone has the money to get that. Once again the burners are not heating one year after repair. Each time this has cost me 179.00, the part was under warranty. I am pretty handy but this is ridiculous. They were rude to us and blamed us. My galvanized ductwork was replaced with the foil foam stuff and I had to make many repairs from the mice eating it. Not to mention it keeps falling down heating and cooling my crawl space. We live in the country. They had a terrible time getting it to work at first. That should have been my first clue... I called home depot about it many times and the service company. When they did come out I ended up doing some of the work. Dont have an order number, bought it through home depot. OH, they are no longer using the company that installed my furnace. Too many complaints...

Replaced our furnace and central air units in 2012. We purchased Trane from our HVAC provider...we had heard good things about them and had no concerns. First year, the unit worked fine. However, we had to have three service calls in 2014 because of cooling issues. We live in Wisconsin so we do not use the unit too often but three calls in the first year and half was nuts, not to mention the service charges we paid. About a month ago, we joked that we should turn the unit on just to make sure it worked and sure enough, we turned it on and 5 hours later, our house was two degrees warmer.Another call to the company we use who came out the next day and after checking the unit, told my husband that the coil needed to be replaced, and that while the part was under warranty, the labor would cost 1800 and take a couple weeks to get the part...the unit has been discontinued. Our other option was a new unit for 2100.00 (Trane would give us 300.00 off the new unit - big deal) We opted for the new unit, who would fix the old for that amount of money with no guarantee something else would go wrong. Now, every time I go in the basement and look at my new Trane furnace, I wonder what the future holds for us.....hoping we dont have to replace that as well. Very disappointed and will never recommend them and/or buy another Trane product. Personally, I think the unit was defective from the start and feel we have been taken advantage of.

Even though I have had my current systems for only three years, I am very happy with Trane. The two units I have have been operating flawlessly for the entire time. The systems that were here when I purchased the house needed great deal of TLC for several years, even though they were only two years old when me bought the property. When my daughter in Massachusetts had an addition put on her house two years ago and asked my advice, I told her that both my personal research and my experience had convinced me to go with Trane.

Replaced our 30-yr-old furnace with a new Trane furnace XT95 in Canada. This was installed on Feb. 20, 2013. The heating is poor. We have a finished basement and it never gets above 58 degrees F. When I sit on my couch just above the furnace, it feels like I`m riding on a train. Have had numerous service calls but they don`t know what`s the matter. Theyve changed motors, adjusted parts and used their diagnostics tools and this is the installers. Now have to wait for the big experts from Trane. I was told by the company that sold and installed the furnace that they were coming about 2 weeks before. I even contacted Trane company myself. Still waiting .

Tech said they had 2-3 other new Trane furnaces with same problem - Trane should have done a recall! Had $3000 in damage and Trane would not cover it!

The original blower wheel installed in model 4TGB3F48A1000AA Furnace Air Handler is inappropriate. In my estimation, it was designed to fail. In my case, it failed just after 4 years of service. The notched blade design is not compatible with a direct drive system. The amount of overlapping material of the blade relative to the dual center drive disks is not sufficient to withstand the rotary forces placed on them by the motor. A solid blade design would be the best option. I would suspect that others have had the same issue. The seasonal HVAC tech who performs bi-annual service noted that he was very familiar with the sound this particular blower wheel prior to failure. As it stands, this item is not covered by any warranty and supposedly can only be installed by a licensed Trane technician for approx. $500.Failure in this case equals the dual center drive disk slipping out of its original position. Each fan blade skips out of its designated slot allowing the drive disk to rotate irrespective of the fan assembly. DIYers will be happy to know this can be replaced for less than $70 without any special tools. Just match the blower wheel attributes to those listed on Emotorstore.com

Its getting old explaining to people why their blower motors fail within a year, coils leak within a year, white flakes from aluminum coils comes out of the vents etc. Trane also had a Model of air handler that had drain pans as brittle as egg shells. This isnt just Trane either. We service all makes and most use the same ECM motor, same chinese sourced copper and aluminum for coils, etc. I miss 20 years ago when a service call was a legitimate problem and didnt require an EXCUSE as to why things failed.

Purchased a home with a Trane XV90 furnace, furnace is 7 years old and out of warranty, product failed at 6 years, after the tech spent hours on the phone with Trane tech support he figured out the furnace needed a new main circuit board to the tune of $1200. We had the furnace repaired, everything was fine for 14 months, went to turn on the heat this year to find out no warm air, called the furnace guy to come out and he explained the main board had failed again. This was after spending 2 more hours on the phone with Trane tech support, we called Trane corporate only to find out the replacement board is only warranted for 12 months, and Trane tried to claim they dont warranty replacement parts, the 12 month warranty is from the dealer. So, to cut an already long story short we now have to shell out another 1200 dollars to repair it again. I called Trane customer support and explained my situation, got a nice email response that said SORRY, GOOD LUCK. It would have been far easier for Trane to do the right thing and either replace the clearly defective part or at a minimum offer a prorated reimbursement, but no they dont care! Do yourself a favor, dont buy a Trane furnace, they dont stand behind their products and if anything goes wrong the replacement parts only have a 12 month warranty from the dealer, Trane tried to argue with me that they dont warranty replacement parts. HIDING BEHIND THEIR DEALERS. So much to Cant stop a Trane. Guess what? You can, and they dont care...
