Dishwasher Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Forte manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Forte appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Make sure your dishwasher is plugged in
Occasionally, your dishwasher won’t start because it’s not plugged in or there’s an issue within the circuit breaker. Make sure your dishwasher is securely plugged in and that the circuit breaker switches haven’t been tripped.

Make sure the child lock isn't on
Some dishwasher models will have a child lock feature to prevent the dishwasher from starting. Check your owner’s manual and make sure the child lock settings are turned off.

Reset the dishwasher
If your dishwasher won’t start but the lights are on, the start button may have been pressed more than once. While pressing the start button once starts the cycle, pressing it again resets the dishwasher and runs a drain cycle for 90 seconds. Wait until the drain cycle is complete and try starting your dishwasher.

Ensure the door latch is working properly
The door latch assembly holds the door closed during a wash cycle to prevent water from leaking. It also houses the door latch switch that provides power to the dishwasher controls. If the dishwasher door isn’t closed properly, the dishwasher won’t receive power to complete a wash cycle. Locate the door switch at the top of the dishwasher door and check that both switches are mechanically activated when the door closes. You can also use a multimeter to check for continuity, but make sure the power to the dishwasher is turned off.

Assess the timer and electronic control
After you’ve ensured that the door latches properly, look at the timer or electronic control. These parts are responsible for how much power is sent to each component of your dishwasher, like the drain pump, heating circuit, and water inlet valve, during a wash cycle. If these parts don’t get the power they need, they won’t work properly. Turn off the power before checking the timer or electric control with a multimeter.

Check the selector switch
A selector switch allows you to choose different washing, drying, and heating options for a wash cycle. If defective or not depressed correctly, the selector switch could be the cause of your dishwasher not starting. Locate the selector switch on the control panel and make sure it’s not stuck between settings. Check to see if more than one button has been pressed at the same time—if more than one button has been pushed, this will create a no continuity situation for your switch and bring no power to these controls.

Check the motor start relay
If your dishwasher won’t turn on and you’ve verified that it’s receiving power, the motor start relay may be defective. Locate the part next to the motor and use a multimeter to check for continuity. The coil portion of the relay should show continuity at all times while the switch contact portion should only show continuity when activated.

Assess the thermal fuse
When the thermal fuse fails, the control board won’t receive any power and the dishwasher won’t start. Open the access door panel and locate the thermal fuse at the top of the circuit board - it will have two wires attached to it. Check for continuity with a multimeter. If the thermal fuse is blown, it will have to be replaced.

Replace your drive motor
The dishwasher drive motor circulates water during a wash cycle to clean the items during a cycle. If the dishwasher won’t start after the start relay sends power to the motor, your drive motor could be defective. If you’ve noticed loud humming sounds coming from the motor during previous wash cycles, this indicates a failing motor. You should replace your motor as soon as possible.

Microwave Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Forte manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Forte appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Blinking Display
If the display on your microwave won’t stop flashing numbers or characters and will not allow you to program it as necessary, try unplugging the unit. If the unit is built in, you may need to find the circuit breaker and flip the appropriate switch. Allow it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in. Just like with computers, sometimes all it takes to fix the issue is a system reboot.

Flashing or Sparking
Do you see sparks or flashes of light emitting from the inside of your microwave? A microwave flashing from the inside could be the sign of a dirty or faulty metal wave guide cover inside your appliance. The wave guide cover protects and shields what is known as the “magnetron,” the device that’s responsible for directing and radiating heat waves toward the center of the appliance where food is placed. Do not attempt to remove, clean or repair the wave guide cover on your own. While the problem is likely not a severe safety hazard, do not attempt to remove the wave guide cover yourself.

Weird Noises
While it’s true that the microwave is not known for its silent nature, noises other than beeping could mean something’s a miss. If your microwave is older and is making loud or strange noises, the microwave’s turn table might need to be replaced. Look online to find the make and model. If you hear a loud humming sound, it could be that the microwave’s exhaust fan might need some attention. A high-pitched noise while the microwave is in use means there’s a good chance the magnetron tube is failing. If the exhaust fan or magnetron tube are the culprits, you will need to call a local appliance repair service.

Range Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Forte manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Forte appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Check Gas Flow
Element Problem – If none of the elements turn on, check the gas supply and be sure something hasn’t happened to stop the flow of gas. Many oven repair calls are the result of forgetting to take this simple step when the oven doesn’t work. If the flow can be restored, then relight the pilots and the appliance should work properly.
Limited Problem – If the problem is limited to one burner or only the oven, then a disruption in the gas line leading to that burner or failure of a control part is likely.

Inspect the Oven
Gas Odor – Is there a gas odor? An odor while burners are turned on can be normal; an odor while they are turned off indicates that there could be a leak.
Burner Issue – For a burner issue, check to see if the pilot serving that burner is lit. If the pilot is lit but the burner is not, inspect the ignition tube since it may be clogged.
Oven Issue – If the problem is only with the oven, open the broiler and pull out the broiler drawer, cover plate and flame extender according to the oven’s instruction manual. Using a flashlight, inspect the ignition system and look for either a pilot light or a filament that glows red when the oven is working. Knowing what to do next depends on the oven’s type of ignition system.

Clean, Relight, and Test
Burner – Relight the pilot feeding the burner tubes and try to light the burner. If it will not stay lit, the pilot tube could be blocked and in need of cleaning. Clean out the burner tubes and make sure there is a clear pathway for gas to flow, then try to relight the burner.
Oven Pilot – Try to relight the pilot feeding the oven burner by holding a match to the pilot flame aperture for about ten seconds. If the pilot does not stay lit once the flame is removed, there is likely a problem with the thermocouple.
Oven Burner – If the pilot stays lit, turn on the oven. The oven burner should ignite and produce an even flame all around. If this does not happen, there is a problem with the oven burner itself.
Oven Filament – If the ignition system is the electronic filament type, turn the oven on (not the broiler) and let it heat up for about half a minute. It should turn glowing red-hot. If this does not happen, there is a problem with the electronic filament.

Refrigerator Repair

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Forte manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Forte appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

My Refrigerator's Not Cooling
The condenser coils are usually located under the refrigerator. They dissipate heat as refrigerant passes through them. If the condenser coils are dirty, they won’t dissipate the heat effectively. As debris builds up on the coils, the refrigerator becomes less efficient, causing the refrigerator to work harder to cool down. If the coils are significantly dirty, the refrigerator will not be able to maintain the proper temperature. Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty—if the condenser coils are dirty, clean them.

Refrigerator water dispenser not working
To determine if the water supply tube is frozen, disconnect the tube at the bottom of the door and blow air through it. If air does not pass through, this indicates that the water supply tube is frozen. If the water supply tube is frozen, thaw it out. In addition, ensure that the freezer is kept at the proper temperature. The freezer temperature should be kept from 0-10 degrees Fahrenheit. If the freezer is too cold, the water line may freeze.

Refrigerator ice maker not working
If the freezer temperature is above 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12C), the ice maker will not produce ice cubes efficiently. The freezer temperature should be set between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -15C) for the ice maker to work properly. If the freezer temperature is too high, ensure that the condenser coils are clear of debris and the condenser fan is working properly. In addition, check to see if frost has accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, part of the defrost system has likely failed.

Refrigerator not defrosting
The defrost control board determines how often to run the defrost cycle. If the board fails, the refrigerator will not go into the defrost cycle. Before replacing the defrost control board, first test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working properly, the defrost control board is likely defective.

Repair Help for a Noisy Refrigerator
If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when one of the doors are opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, check out the evaporator fan blade in the freezer behind the back panel. Try turning it by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade in the back underside of the refrigerator to determine if it has any obstructions.

The dishwasher works well. We have had it a year with no problems, using it about 4 days a week. If there is anything negative it would be that one cannot let dishes sit in the dishwasher for more than 48 hours before washing them or the hardened material will not come clean.

Forte dishwasher was purchased for new home May 2020 has been an excellent unit. For price much quieter than expected and does a great job on a full load in the normal cycle. The stainless interior and ease of cleaning screens etc. make this unit a delight to use.
