Heat Pump Error Codes

Rheem heat pumps may use error codes to help diagnose and troubleshoot issues. The specific error codes can vary depending on the model and type of your Rheem heat pump. It's crucial to refer to your heat pump's user manual or technical documentation for accurate information about error codes.

Here are some general Rheem heat pump error codes and their potential meanings. Keep in mind that these are generic examples, and your specific model may have different codes:

P: High-Pressure Switch Open (HP) - Indicates a high-pressure condition that may require attention. This could be due to issues such as a refrigerant overcharge, blocked condenser coil, or a faulty high-pressure switch.

LP: Low-Pressure Switch Open (LP) - Indicates a low-pressure condition that may be caused by issues such as low refrigerant levels, a refrigerant leak, or a faulty low-pressure switch.

F: Defrost Control (DFC) - Indicates a problem with the defrost control. This could be related to issues with the defrost thermostat, defrost control board, or sensors.

H: High-Pressure Sensor Fault (HPF) - Indicates a fault with the high-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a high-pressure condition.

L: Low-Pressure Sensor Fault (LPF) - Indicates a fault with the low-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a low-pressure condition.

C: Open Circuit or Sensor Fault (OSF) - Indicates an open circuit or sensor fault. This could be related to various sensors within the heat pump.

Other Codes: There may be other codes specific to your model, and their meanings will be outlined in the user manual.

Always refer to your specific model's documentation for accurate information about error codes and their meanings. If you encounter an error code on your Rheem heat pump, it's advisable to consult the user manual first. The manual typically includes a troubleshooting guide that may provide steps to address common issues associated with specific error codes. If you're unable to resolve the problem or if the issue persists, it's recommended to contact Rheem customer support or a qualified HVAC technician for assistance. They can provide accurate diagnostics and perform any necessary repairs.

I had a new 50 gallon water heater fail under one year of installation: i.e. Bad thermal sensor. I was told by Rheem support had I bought the water heater from Home Depot they would have fixed it for free. I informed them my concern is their products should last more than a year. They even refused to cover expedited shipping costs.

We bought the 30 gallon water heater March 3, 2021 and was installed the next day. The tank started large amounts of water from all over the tank. We had to turn off the water supply since we could not get it to stop leaking. I thought Rheem was a good brand but I am finding out that it is not. To top it off I have tried calling their help phone line 6 times and each time I just get disconnected the last 2 times I called. The first time I called 800-621-5622 the calls never picked up, never went through or the recording said there would be a 1 hour and a half wait. Not very good customer service! We need help and a new water heater. It should last longer than 9 months. Someone needs to call me at ** and ask for John B.

I have been trying to deal with this problem for four days now. I called Rheem company several times today and was given divergent information. They gave me the number of installers, which then asked me to get a work order. I called Rheem they said they sent the order but it got refused. I called installer back again and conference called Rheem which then said that I would have to call the distributor instead. I was finally able to locate the distributor, who said they would be able to replace the water heater for a $150 service (provided I transport the old/new tanks). But they requested a voucher or authorization in order to provide me with a water heater replacement. I called Rheem 800 number yet again and the person transferred me to the warranty department which is now closed for business. Im going to be yet without hot water for another weekend. This is horrible customer service, giving me the running around!!! The water heater is less than a year old!

Less than a year ago, I had two brand-new Rheem heat pumps installed to the tune of $16,000. One of these units had a factory defect which resulted in nearly $1,600 in electric overages (as the defect made it so that our home was unknowingly running on the ‘emergency heat’ setting for two months). As soon as I realized that something was amiss, I contacted the company – where their customer service agent led me to believe that such charges would be reimbursed provided it was deemed a defective part. HOWEVER, given the situation with COVID, she also informed me that unfortunately no agents would be able to do a home visit – and therefore the defect could not be verified.

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

Horrible experience. Call center rude, not helpful. lve been without hot water for almost a week. Why is it so difficult to get a new heater when its under warranty. Then they want me to buy a new heater and they said they would reimburse me 260. You would think if a company is getting nothing but 1-star ratings they we would change something, shows the character of the company brand. I would never buy a Rheem product again.

I Purchased a new Rheem 3.5 ton heat pump system in 2011. In 2014 the A-Coil in the air handler started leaking freon and the system shut down. Rheem replaced the part under warranty but would not reimburse me the labor or the freon which cost $450. Then in 2016 the replacement coil started leaking just like the 1st replacement. Same story, Rheem replaced the part and I was out another $450. Now its November 2018 and the 2nd replacement coil is leaking and I have no a/c. I have heard from HVAC repairman that there are many other people in the same situation and Rheem refuses to make any changes or improvements to the coil, so I expect this will go on indefinitely. Stay away from Rheem!

I wanted to buy a Rheem Lifetime warranty Marathon hot water tank. They advertise that it will never need changing and will save you so much money in the long run. I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. My insurance told me that 99% of insurance companies will still require that the unit be changed after 10 years regardless of the manufacturers warranty claims. Note: I am in Canada. Buyer beware!!!!

I purchased a Rheem water heater in June 2014 from Home Depot. The tank failed several days ago. I tried warranty service over the last several days and I got a message it wasnt in service, try later... Or wrong serial number. Today I called the 800 621 5622 and got a customer service rep. He tells me to bring it back to Home Depot for adjustment. Home Depot doesnt deal with Rheem anymore. Cant even special order. Parts can only be obtained from their authorized plumber and any regular plumber wont touch or recommend Rheem for obvious reasons. Essentially Rheem warranty program is a sham. My recommendation: Dont buy anything from Rheem. Model # XG48TOGEN40UO S # RHUNM181401735 manufactured 29/4/14.

We had this water heater installed thinking we had gotten the best on the market. However, upon installation, it would not turn on. Found it was a crimped wire when we installed a replacement part they sent us.We have had not real hot water since the installation. Apparently the model XE50T12EC55UO re-positions itself to OFF every time there is power disruption. We live in an area that the energy company has the ability to shut off your hot water tank to save energy as well as have power failures. This means we HAVE to reset our water tank every time or we have no hot water. When we spoke to customer service, we were told that is how the tank works and we should have done our homework before buying the tank - No one expect that from a hot water tank!

They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. What a joke.

Previous water heater was leaking. Contracted plumbing company to have water heater replaced. They recommended Rheem Water Heater (Model # 22V40FN). Installation Date: 02/17/2012. Paid $850.00. 12/7/2013 - Thermocouple had to be replaced. Part was covered, paid for labor $175.00. 04/24/2014 - No hot water again... Plumbers came out, re-lit pilot light, paid labor $75.00. They said nothing is wrong with unit and to contact PG& E to do safety check. PG&E came out and found nothing wrong with the areas surrounding the water heater. They checked the pilot light and said it would go out again. Problem with water heater itself. Contacted plumber again and they dont know what the problem is. 05/09/14 - No hot water again. Contacted a couple of different plumbers but they refused to work on Rheem products. Contacted Rheem Technical Support and they gave me telephone numbers for two plumbers that were in my area. 1st one said they will charge a service fee of $110.00 just to come out and second one didnt return phone call. Will never ever buy a Rheem product again.

Our hot water heater went out and our plumber installed a new one. It would not continuously heat water. Got it traded out for another. Same Problem. For 2 months now, I have to go clear down stairs and reset the system for it to heat water. Now Rheem authorized another plumber to come out and diagnose the issue. The new plumber is saying we need to rip out our 2 inch vent pipe and put in 3 inch vent pipe. Why would we not be told up front this system requires 3 inch versus the 2 inch that houses only 10 years old or so all have!!!

This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors
This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors plumber for around $800.+. I had no control as to the choice. It recently stopped working and I had a friend who is a certified heating and air conditioner contractor. He said that the heater is leaking from the top and fills up the blower and shuts off the exhaust. There as a safety will not turn on the burner. He removed the water from the blower and the heater worked for two weeks. Loaded up with water again. I never was given a copy of the warranty, so I did not know about the six years expected life on this expensive heater. I have had two other homes and never had a water heater that did not last 15 to 20 years and they did not cost $800+. I called Rheem, but warranty is no more, which would not have made any difference, from what I read from others that had the same model 41VRP4ON, and got no response. My heater has been fixed again and is expected to run for another two weeks, until the blower fills up again. When I finally give up on it, the service man says he is going to take it apart and expects poor welding by the manufacturer where the pipes goes into the top. No heater would leak from the top in less that 6 years if it was properly put together and inspected. I will certainly let my contractor as well as the others know about this brand, in order that others are not cheated out of their money!

Ever since this heat pump was installed I have had problems with it. Various heating contractors come and charge me money to try to fix the problem but to no success. Only temporary fixes. I tried to contact Rheem as I feel the unit is defective but no one gets back to you or takes time to help or access the problem. Very dissatisfied and would not recommend Rheem to anyone who needs a heat pump!

I have had this water heater for 1-1/2 years and every 6 months have to have the igniter changed. Getting very expensive for the part and labor. I could have bought a new water heater (certainly not a Rheem though). They know they are having a problem with this so why aren’t they fixing it to make their customers happy. This Rheem gas water heater is CRAP. I always thought Rheem had a good name and quality product. Not anymore. Do not buy from this company. Only wish I had researched before I bought it.

We bought an Rheem 5.0 Ton air conditioner unit just 13 months ago. The compressor stopped working and even though the parts are covered we had to pay $600 for the labor. We are still paying for this unit and it only lasted a little over a year. The unit we had before (a different brand) lasted over 10 years before it gave us any problems. It doesnt seem fair that we had to pay that much money for labor when it is obviously a faulty unit. We live in Florida and its the middle of summer, we cant live without AC so we just had to pay it. I will not recommend this Rheem brand to anybody.

Bought new water heater Tuesday, got the 9 year warranty. Guess what, new water heater doesnt work. Friday called toll free number see if warranty would cover parts that need to be replaced and work. Rheem calls back to inform us that we live too far away from a tech to send one. That we would have to call the plumber ourselves and pay for all work. We then send the invoice to Rheem and they decide if they will reimburse us for it, but only up to $125.

No one to take action. They said we will send you parts. You can yourself call plumber and fix it. They refused to honor warranty even though technician said needed to be replaced. I will never ever buy another one of their products. Less than 5 years on a water heater. They have no desire to help customers nor do they give a flying monkeys ** because they are big enough that one family does not mean crap to them. If I had a choice between a cheap Chinese knockoff and their product I would take the knockoff because at least then there is no semblance that they care.

We had our Rheem water heater installed less than a month ago and we recently noticed an awful smell in our hot water. We are on a well and do not chlorinate our water. We do have an iron reduction filter and water softener and have never experienced a bad odor to our hot water. We had to call the plumber out to look at the water heater because of the odor being so bad and were told that we needed to replace the anode rod to eliminate the smell. The anode rod that came in the water heater was not intended for well water. We tried contacting Rheem to see if this could be processed through our warranty and we were told it was not a defect in the product. It may not be a defect, but this product was not advertised correctly. Nowhere does this product say For Chlorinated Water. I am very disappointed in this product and this manufacturer for not advertising their product in a way that allows a consumer on a well to make the best decision for their home. We had our previous water heater for over 15 years with no odor in our water. Customer Service told us we can replace the anode rod and will probably have to do it quite often, or we can completely remove it and the water heater will not last as long. He also said we could add a chlorination system to our water, but all the options he listed are at our cost. I will never purchase a Rheem water heater or any other product with their name on it ever again.

One week before water heater warranty expired, it had problems. Did some troubleshooting, and determined that most likely, the upper element had burned out. Called their customer service, and thats when things got ugly. Gave first person the model/serial numbers and was transferred to their technical service line. Wait time: 86 minutes! Well, what ya gonna do? So I waited...after 1-1/2 hours, I got a technician; explained the issue and was then informed that I had been connected to the GAS water heater line. The first person had transposed two numbers of my serial number and sent me to the wrong line. Seriously. Said I had to transfer to electric queue. Transferred me. Wait time: 84 minutes! Oh, no...not doing that dance again. Hung up and dialed back in. Got to their first level again - explained problem and requested assistance. Was assured I could be transferred to electric tech line and would be bumped up in the queue. Transferred. Wait time: 88 minutes! Seriously? Hung up again and called back. Again. Received immediate message that they were closed. At 10 minutes before 8:00. So much for their Assistance available 24/7 sticker on the water heater. So now, I will have to call back...again...and waste 2 hours...again...all just to get a new heating element sent to me. Ridiculous.

Rheem does not honor their warranty. My plumber installed two Rheem water heaters in my two family and it worked great for two years. Three months ago, one of them burst at the bottom and flooded my basement. It was not a problem because I got 6 or 7-year warranty on the product. I then called Rheem they confirmed that the product is under warranty. They gave me a return number and advised me that I should take the defective heater back to where I purchased it.The contractor took it back but the distributor where it was originally purchased said that they will not exchange. I contacted Rheem and they told me to try another distributor--same thing, no exchanges. I called several more and asked Rheem if they could ship me one they said no. This has been ongoing for three months so I eventually contacted the BBB. Rheem said that they would give me a fair market value. This turns out to be about $400 when a new heater cost is about $800--not fair at all. Please do not purchase from Rheem because they do not honor their warranty. I purchased a different brand to replace the defective one. You will get ** when your heater fails. I had to pay an additional $400 for a new heater.

I wish I knew now what I should have known then. I purchased a 2.5 ton Rheem unit in Jan 2012 and had it installed for my 1000 sq ft condo in AZ. No problems at first but then in Aug 2016 the unit started blowing hot air and had techs come out. After spending almost $1000 for coil cleaning, new blower motor plus other stuff the unit was running again. Then in 2018 it started blowing hot air again. This time I had a handyman who was working on my condo told me the coil were frozen over and let it run blower only for 24 hours and let it thaw out, that worked. Now forward to Aug 2020 in AZ with the temps averaging 114 outside plus covid happening the unit again started blowing out hot air. Techs again come out. Tell me it needs parts, Freon, new condenser and maybe that would fix my problem. It would be about $4000 and it was not guaranteed. It would not happen again. I was told by two companies that Rheem units are a piece of crap and they do not sell them at all. I purchased another new unit. I do not think things should break in less than 10 years. Wish I also knew that Rheem has lawsuits against them in 2014.

Today (2 months later) I called to find out WHEN I should be getting a check. I was told 4-8 MORE weeks. Because I didnt submit my cancelled check with my claim - therefore - it hasnt even been processed. No call from them to tell me I needed to send cancelled checks. Long story short, back in 2010 I had the chance to have a brand spanking new Rheem oil burner installed for free to replace a very good, reliable and well-running oil burner, which was installed way back in 1979 as a new unit and never had a problem with it. Boy do I wish that I still had that unit, over this four-year old piece of junk. It might have been a little tired, as I was told, but so what, after 31 years - what do you expect - its normal wear and tear. From day one, upon the installation of this Rheem unit, it has been a problem with the smell of raw, unburned oil coming up through the heating vents. It doesnt happen all of the time, but it shouldnt be happening at all. It is nasty when this happens and you never know when it will strike again. I have contacted the clowns who installed this unit, of course they portray the three stooges 21st century style - they are totally clueless in Massachusetts. I wont even allow them into my house for a third time. I contacted the public assistance agency who was instrumental in my receiving this wonderful product. I have called them only six times in the last four years concerning this problem. I am told consistently by the same person, each time, that there is nothing that they can do about it. I have asked them if anyone else of the approximately 120 homes that have had these furnaces installed has had this problem with their unit. I am told no, that I am the only one. I suppose that this is possible, but a bit unlikely, I feel. Even though this agency takes the lowest bidder, I dont know who or what to believe, or not. I have only contacted Rheem four times in the last year and you never hear back. So now I am thinking BBB, possibly FTC, or some other applicable agency. Maybe sue Rheem, the installer, or the assistance agency. It is hard when you dont know what to do. I suppose that I could go to one of my elected officials, I am so sure that these underpaid $120,000.00 per year cronies are real interested in helping out with something like this. Thanks for reading this.

I bought a Rheem furnace 2 stage variable speed and A/C unit. It was installed in summer. In winter, I noticed that furnace kicks in directly in the second stage and never works in the first stage. It is too noisy and heat variations are high. I tried for 3 months to determine the contractor to come and fix the issue. It was not an emergency, but the unit was under warranty and did not do what was supposed to do. After 3 months, the contractor comes and tries to call the dealer in order to get support from them as the contractor did not know what to do (despite the fact it seems a very simple setting). I took 2 days off, and every day the contractor cannot reach the dealers technician despite the fact that this was scheduled in advance. I was frustrated and tried to send a complaint directly to Rheem. I filled in their contact form (there is no way to contact them via phone) and wrote a long note venting my frustration and bad experience with the whole chain. And at the end, when I tried to submit, it didnt go through. I tried 6 times and every time, it failed without telling me what the error is. So in the end, there is no one to contact at Rheem to explain the situation, and how the dealer and the contractor and possibly the quality of their product affect their reputation. In the end, I am a very unhappy Rheem customer, and I would never ever recommend someone to buy a Rheem product due to the overall experience I had with all 3 entities involved (producer/dealer and contractor).

I was told it was too small, so I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater which failed in 6 months. They sent me parts and it failed 2 additional times. Each time requiring a whole new boiler, valve, and thermostat assembly. My question is how did one 40 gal last 10 years and I can’t get 3 years out of a water heater with new technology and a larger capacity? My calls to Rheem were in excess of 30 minute wait times and 20 + callers ahead of me. Another bad sign!

Unfortunately, on the second floor I had central air conditioning installed and paid additional to upgrade to the Ruud brand. Big Mistake! The contractor had problems upon problems with the equipment. Because the equipment did not work, the compressor had to be installed twice and the coil/air handler needed to be installed three times. I contacted customer service 479-648-4900 and spoke to Cody regarding having to install another aluminum coil after 16 months. She explained; “The coil is under warranty for five years however the homeowner is responsible for the cost of all labor and refrigerant.” Well the cost for labor and refrigerant is $1400 to remove a defective coil and install another (no doubt) defective coil. After reading through other reviews of RHEEM’s defective coils and the cost to remove and install, I’ve decided to replace their crap with a reliable system. Taking into consideration that their coils continue to fail, I anticipate having to pay $100-$150 a month as a cost to owning a RHEEM HVAC system. I will also be posting my comments on other sites, not only to inform prospective buyers, but to seek relief from govt agencies since this is a consumer issue that Rheem is fully aware of!

My house came with a Rheem water heater. It was 5 yrs old when we moved in, after 3 year it started to leak and corrode around the top. We replaced it with another Rheem in 2013 brand new. In 2016 it failed, just stopped working. I called the plumber who installed it. He said nothing he can do so I called Rheem. They said I need to check it with a multimeter? The guy told me to go buy one. I asked my plumber who got on the phone and he somehow got them to replace the water heater, but I have to purchase another warranty.Five hundred and fifty dollars later to be installed it was working but not as hot as our last one. Then one year later 2017 it stops working again. My plumber is disabled and retired, so I call Rheem and after being on hold for hours they tell me again to get a multimeter to check whats wrong. If is electronics or an element they can tell me how to replace it. First of all, my parents had water heaters for 40 years. These only last for year? Im no electrician, Im not taking apart a water heater and fixing this junk! Im done buying anything from this bottom feeder. That is why they are in the home improvement stores. They are junk!

For those who do not like to read long reviews, all I can say is that I cannot be more disappointed than I am with Rheem. Simply DO NOT buy a Rheem product, unless you like dealing with a product of marginal quality, and a customer support team that is beyond incompetent. Early in 2017 our 40 gal water heater needed to be replaced. We went to a local store and found a nice Rheem (or so we thought) gas water heater. Had it installed professionally, good to go. Soon after installation, every time the burner lit, there would be a loud bang of a small gas explosion. We called Rheem, and they said they ...have no technicians in the area, call a local plumber to look at it and well reimburse you. OK. We did as directed. The plumber came over and suggested a complete replacement of the burner assembly. Rheem declined, and sent only a small part. It didnt fix the problem. Another call to Rheem. And another. And another, with repeated visits by the plumber. Finally, after three months of back-and-forth, Rheem sent a full burner assembly. It fixed the problem. We then read the instructions on how to get reimbursed. It was quite complicated, and required all sorts of paperwork, including a W-9 from the plumber (even though Rheem must have had records of all calls and directions). I submitted the paperwork via email. I waited. And waited. No acknowledgment of receipt of paperwork. I called Rheem. After being put on hold for 1/2 hour, I finally talked to a representative. They claim that my reimbursement had never arrived (this is email, folks, if it doesnt arrive, you get a bounce-back message). I patiently resubmitted the paperwork via email. And waited. And waited. I called again 2 months later. By this time the fun had dragged on for 5 months. The rep said that the paperwork had been received, but that it was under review and a decision would be made whether or not to refund within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed. No check. The clock is now at 6 1/2 months in this story. At about 8 weeks, I tried calling again. The customer service option when calling Rheem was disconnected. I tried calling the contractor line, but they would not talk to me unless I had a contractor license number. I told them that the residential customer line was disconnected, and they babbled something about a technical problem. Right. Sure... I went to the plumber and asked for assistance. They called the contractor line, spoke to someone, and that person said the check would be sent immediately, and that there had been a problem with the paperwork I had sent (they had never told me this). When the plumber asked what the problem was, the Rheem representative couldnt be specific. At this point I was getting ready to go to small claims court. Three weeks after the plumbers call, the check finally arrived. Ive deposited it, and, based on historical activities, have my fingers crossed that it doesnt bounce. In the end, Rheem reimbursed us over $600 for repairs to an $800 water heater. If they had just authorized the full burner assembly requested at the first call, it would have been closer to $150. I have dealt with terrible customer service in my past, but this is a new low. And sadly, from what I understand, this is a more common occurrence than any decent company should allow. DO NOT BUY RHEEM!! By the way, the technical issue with the residential customer service line is still on-going, 4 weeks after I first encountered it. Pathetic.

My water heater was recalled due to fire hazard. I was informed by Rheem that the control panel they normally provide (free of charge) is back-ordered with no ETA. I was told that I had to return the faulty water heater to the point of purchase for a new one. I got the exact model, just a few years newer and had to pay ~$500 more for the new one, okay fine. Here is where it gets bad. Rheems deal was to reimburse me the installation fee up to $450. I provided all of the necessary paperwork, filled out their forms as instructed and have email confirmation that my reimbursement is approved and a check would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks. Here we are over 10 weeks later, and counting, and no word from Rheem. They will not respond to my emails and I cannot reach anyone on the phone. What started as their faulty product, barely halfway into the products warranty, should have been a free fix has ended up costing me well over a $1,200! I would have been better off to cut my losses and purchase a water heater from a different manufacture, which is exactly what I will do when this one craps out before the warranty period is up. I held up my end of the deal, they will not hold up theirs.

Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home in August 2015. Worked for three months, then had issues with NO hot water. Getting error code. Contacted company and after several attempts and disconnects finally got someone. Was told that the venting was improper and to contact plumber to have them look at it and then send the bill for reimbursement. We did as we were told, changed venting per their specifications and still does not work correctly. Plumbing company contacted Rheem and they sent new blower assembly. This was replaced and did NOT fix the problem. Again contacted Rheem spent over 2 hours trying to get someone. Finally got someone in another department who transferred to supervisor. They have supposedly contacted Menards to reimburse us for the bad water heater, but now are refusing to reimburse us for the bill that was incurred by having a plumber come out. They are stating we did not provide the correct documentation showing a defect. Bill was sent that we received from plumbing company stating their fees.We cannot understand why no one is looking into this company regarding all these issues that this company is having with their bad product and NOT honoring their warranty. This company is causing frustrations on customers that should not be happening and not honoring anything in their warranty booklet. Nor are the phone numbers that they are listing on this warranty numbers that consumers are able to get through. When talking to the supervisor I brought this issue up and even asked him if he has ever tried calling the number listed. He said frankly no. I asked him to please do this as well as forward this on to individuals that are higher up so that they are aware of this issue. I would seriously hope that this company look into their issues with their products and take note of what consumers are dealing with.

Rheem is horrible, if an HVAC contractor tries to sell you one get rid of him as well. I installed 3 units at my house in 2012 and after a year I had to replace an evaporator coil on one unit. After 2 years all three evaporator coils were leaking and need to be replaced as well as numerous other problems. Rheem covers parts but not labor, every visit has been at least $500. The comfort control 2 (Rheem Thermostat RHC-TST551CMMS) is not programmable to a laymen, they dont give you a manual. Try to find any information for Rheem online other than to fix one or buy one. There is none, they sweep the internet so you call the repair facility nearest you so they can come out and charge you to repair it. An out of town family member who owns an HVAC company relayed to me that they are the least dependent and he loves them. Rheem has washed their hands to even talking to the consumer as well. Try calling Rheem, good luck. They tell you they have never had issue, theyre not even sure they make AC units if you have a problem. Try looking for manuals on their website, there are none. Not even to program the thermostat. They throw codes constantly and guess what, call the technician to reprogram its $100.00 plus to visit and $$$ to fix it, thats if they are telling you the truth. The company has had issues with all of their products from water heaters to AC units and they deny ever having an issue. They are unscrupulous and their product is pure junk. I would go on but, its not worth it other than to warn you, a $20K home improvement has become a total liability.

I just acquired a new hot water heater and wanted to learn more about preventative maintenance needed to prolong its useful life. One agent was helping me with ensuring warranty dates are accurate as their records show warranty start date as date of manufacture. Date of install is 5 months later.. They have a website for registration but that did not help update their warranty records. He told me to use their website again. I told him I already did that and nothing changed. Then, he said all I had to do reply to his email with copies of invoices and extended warranty info and all will be taken care of. A day later, nothing. So I called back and somebody else says she will look into it, update records and EMAILl me a screenshot to show it is done. No email received but warranty record was updated to correct start at date of install but did not include extended warranty date of additional 4 years. So now I have to call them back regarding this. Why is it so hard?In addition, I wanted to buy extra anode rods (secondary, connected to HOT WATER Side) so that I have them readily available 5 years or so from now. That seems to be a VERY complicated process. Always requires Serial number which is totally irrelevant. All manufacturers anode rods are universal. Difference is length of rod, length of nipple (for those that are installed in the HOT WATER side of the tank) and material composition. After half a dozen emails back and forth, still no info as to how I can get the anode rod needed. I even gave them part numbers and they told me to contact another department as the department I contacted do not handle customer service inquiries, just website related. HUH???Another customer service rep emailed me instruction on how to maintain as well as user manual. I thanked him for it, asked him more questions, and.... NO RESPONSE since then.. A couple of follow up emails and still no. WHY? Frankly, I worry about the service I will be getting from this company when something really wrong happens.. I may have made a mistake buying their stuff. Their A/C unit is outstanding. Water heater is another story as I had problems with inaccurate thermostat BUT, to their credit a new thermostat was immediately sent and that fixed my problem. I worry what else will go wrong and the runaround I will get. Caveat Emptor !!!

I see all of these bad reviews of the Rheem water heaters and notice that many seem to be purchased at a retail level either thru their plumber or directly from Home Depot or other home improvement outlet. We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I researched which water heater to install before building, even talked to the Rheem folks. I told the plumber what I wanted. After much grousing, he installed what I wanted and I even got him to submit the registration paperwork that extended the warranty by 4 years ( one of the reasons I wanted it.).

I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. Its leaking & cant be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesnt come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if theres a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they cant track down by your name only the model # & yes, thats right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

Summary: $1,500 water heater was declared a lemon by Rheems tech support -- Rheem will not issue a full refund. I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem water heater (PROPG50-40N RH67 PD) from an authorized Rheem dealer, Johnson Thermol Temp Inc., Washington, MI. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi feature, used to raise/lower the water temperature from a smartphone, never worked consistently. After a seemingly random period of time (a few hours to a week) the Wi-Fi connection would drop, resulting in lukewarm-to-cold showers.During the next several months I placed many calls and invested dozens of hours of personal time working with Rheems tech support. To prove my home network wasnt the issue I was required to purchase and install two different Wi-Fi extenders. Rheem/Johnson Thermal made several attempts to troubleshoot the problem. They replaced the Wi-Fi unit. They replaced the gas valve three times. Nothing worked. Unable to solve the problem Rheems tech support declared the water heater a lemon (their words, not mine, case number 3137948) and told me to return it and Johnson Thermal would provide a refund.Johnson Thermal took the water heater back. A few weeks passed; no refund. After two more phone calls to Johnson Thermal and another week went by I received a partial, $700 refund. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Rheem failed. I placed two calls to their warranty group. Both times I was told that the manager was not available but would call back. Neither call was returned. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Johnson Thermal failed. I placed a call to the manager -- it was not returned. A partial refund is not acceptable for a water heater that *never* worked properly. My expectation was/is for a full, $1500 refund.

Purchased a 50 gallon water heater in 2011 with a nine-year Rheem guarantee
Purchased a 50 gallon water heater in 2011 with a nine-year Rheem guarantee. Awakened yesterday to a leak in the unit. Since I was 5 years into the warranty period, I did not expect much but called the customer service anyway. A polite technical representative explained that the element gasket had failed after I described the leak. Called my plumber who came immediately and determined that the unit failed. He replaced both elements. Still leaked. Called customer service again and they suggested something I did not understand related to the power supply. The plumber took the phone. Within minutes he whispered to me the technicians at Rheem were not knowledgeable. He asked one of the three he spoke to how many heaters she had installed. She told him she had observed an installation once. He spent 1.5 hours trying to get them to honor the warranty in any way.I went to Lowes and purchased a new heater which my plumber installed without charge. The final Rheem representative told me I had invalidated the warranty with the new installation. She stated we could have gone through additional technical assessment via phone had I not replaced the unit. I asked for one example and she stated Testing the junction box. I responded that she was talking nonsense and asked what other technical assessments we could have done. She repeated that it did not matter because I had replaced the unit and invalidated the warranty. Please read the other stories presented here. The pattern is the same. Rheem had no intention of honoring their warranty. Their representatives offer questionable advice (use a voltmeter, check electric supply in a leaking unit, etc.) and clearly could not respond to my plumber who challenged them.

Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldnt get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didnt have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!! While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas companys fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now its a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didnt do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Dont buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

Love the system. Bought a 5 ton 20 SEER Heat Pump. Unit is very quiet, runs on low most all of the time. The house is in LA (Lower Alabama) 30 mile from the Gulf of Mexico. Love the ECONET system. I am able to control the heat pump and my water heater from a app on phone. Helps save money as you can control the temperatures of both with the app when you go off or temperatures needs change with a large group of people in the house. System lets you know when it is time to clean or replace air filters.

We purchased a Rheem furnace 3 years ago and have problems ever since. It quits every winter. The control panel goes and there is not much you can do. At this time, I have been without heat for five days. We live in Prince George and the temperature was over 30 degrees below. Needless to say, we have been very cold. Fraser did come out right away and determined that the control panel was not working again. The water pipes were freezing and despite our small heaters, we had to call in a restoration company to heat the basement so the pipes wouldnt break at $150.00m call out plus $35.00 per day. It would seem that we have a very inferior product. Our old furnace was 30 years old and we never had any problems. Thirty below is very cold and we have had enough. The parts were supposed to be in yesterday but now we have been told maybe tomorrow. Any advice and how to we get this bad product replaced?

I purchased a high end water Rheem water heater less than a year ago. This morning I had no hot water. I checked the circuit breaker and the reset button on the unit itself. NOTHING. I called Rheem and they said theyd send a replacement part on Monday--today is Saturday. This is not the 19th century. The fact that this unit failed in less than a year and the fact that I have to wait three days for a part is ludicrous. I should have heeded the poor reviews on this product.

Purchased a Rheems Platinum hot water heater. A little after a year a leak developed and burnt out the control board. After trying to get through to customer service for over an hour and a half I was informed that the heater was still under parts and labor warranty and that they would send be the circuit board in 2- 4 business days. I asked if they could expedite it. Again I was put on hold until the shipping department picked up. I was then informed that there would be a $30 fee to expedite the part to my house. Does not seem fair that I would need to pay for a part that is defective and a direct result of Rheems poor manufacturing. I have a family of 5 without hot water and who knows when the part will arrive and when they can schedule a repair person to install the parts. I pleaded, with no avail, with them to just replace the hot water heater since there was no positive indication of where the leak is occurring. Looks like cold family showers for a while! Totally unfair and lengthy resolution.

We replace a water heater April 2015 with a Rheem electric tank in our vacation rental. Sept 2016 our tenant called us to say there was no hot water. Couldnt believe it. We had a plumber attend the condo to find out that the wires on top of the water heater were fried. We needed a new hot water heater of course. This happened on a Saturday and Rheems office was closed.I called Rheem on Monday for them to tell me I had to go through who I purchased the hot water tank through which was Home Depot. A representative at Rheem told me they would reimburse the labour to install the new tank. Im still waiting as of today being February 13, 2017. Rheem has the worst customer service I have ever had. They tell me someone will call me back in a day or so. They tell me it takes 6 to 8 weeks for an answer. Wow its now been 6 months and still no answer. I am so done with them. Hands down the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they cant even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didnt receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak Im literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.

Buying Rheem Seer 20 heat pump/ac unit is the worst investment of our lives. Three months after buying it quit and installer said it needed to replaced but under warranty. Waited 2 months and installed in December. Incredibly loud!!!! Sounds like a loud compressor running beside the house. If the outside temperature gets cold it is very inefficient warming the house. At -10C (14F) it couldn't keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.

The supervisor told me no one called in. After pulling teeth, she finally agreed to double check my serial number, and it was typed in wrong. He did call in. The initial rep and supervisor were very rude, and not at all sympathetic. The repair man was also given the wrong information. He was not offered an alternate replacement part that would also work. I bought a Rheem heating and air unit back in 200. The whole thing is going out now. Had a warranty for 5 years. Shortly after the warranty expires have to put a new fan motor. The electric component on a side went out and now the compressor is out which run anywhere between 1700 and $3,000 and theyre saying that my condenser looks like it might be going out so I need a whole new unit on top of all this. My heater motor bearings are going out so now I need a whole new unit.Poor customer service from Hannah here in Andover, Kansas. Ive read a lot of customer complaints. It seems to me these the Rheem manufacturers cannot get their act together so its time for somebody to do something. A new unit could cost me between $5,000 to $6,500 and up not including the parts and labor that Ive already paid for poor quality parts. What is anybody going to do about this? I am the man that will do something if theres lawsuits that need be filed so be it and Im sure with 300 other online reviews and customer complaints a lot of will go a lot with us. Model # 22VR40FN - Water heater needed repair after just a few years of service. Had to pay $235.00 for a tech to repair. Rheem makes you jump through hoops just to try to get a $45.00 parts reimbursement covered by their warranty. Almost 40 minutes on phone, repair invoice from plumber marked paid with our check number on it sent previously but I guess, not enough (insulting), image of both sides of our cancelled check needed as additional proof of repair. So that means more time wasted - special trip to bank to get cancelled check copy. Will never buy a Rheem product again. Purchased a Rheem 3.5 ton 15 SEER split heat pump system in January 2014. Because of all the problems with the unit right after installation the outside unit was replaced March 2014. Weve had constant service calls for the unit not cooling, abnormal loud noises when the unit comes on, wires touching that disabled the system, coils leaking in the inside unit which called for replacement. We were promised in 2014 that a Rheem rep would come out and that didnt happen until March of 2015. I have a service technician here right now because the unit decided to quit cooling yesterday. I am not upset that a part went bad, I get it… things happen. The only reason I gave a second star was because everyone I spoke with was very polite and professional. What is disappointing is that Rheem does not consider my family having hot water for six day an issue. I am betting that the top brass at Rheem have not had to go through their warranty department for a repair, otherwise it would not be this way. Here is an account by date of what occurred afterward. DAY 1 - 12/5/2020: Water heater stops working so I call Rheem Warranty. I was told they were closed and call back tomorrow. DAY 2 - 12/6/2020: I call Rheem and get put on hold for 15 minutes... no problem. They answer and take my info and then transfer me to Warranty. I sit on hold another 30 minutes. They finally answer and we go through a series of Q&A to determine what needs to be done to fix my water heater. It is determined that I need a part and that they will ship it to me... Ok, no problem. I receive an email from Rheem stating the following: Thank you for contacting Rheem. A part has been submitted to the Parts department for processing. Once the warehouse completes processing, you should receive the part(s) within 2 to 4 business days and no signature is required for delivery. Additionally, You should receive an email with tracking information once the warehouse packages your part.Additionally, a request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive your part or hear from a contractor, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Fri 9AM-6PM ET for further assistance. Here is where I have a problem... ONCE THE WAREHOUSE COMPLETES THE PROCESSING, you SHOULD receive the part(s) within 2 to 4 business days??? This did not exactly instill confidence that I was going to get hot water back anytime soon. I have six people living in my house… my wife and I, an elderly parent, three children and none of us are happy with the thought of waiting six to eight days with no hot water.DAY 3 - 12/7/2020: I do not receive a shipment notification, but I do receive a notification that I have been assigned a contractor to install the part once I receive it. I think to myself; I will get a little ahead of the curve by seeing it they have a part in stock and maybe, just maybe, they can get their part installed prior to Rheems part arriving. I call the contractor (super nice folks), who tell me they cant and wont even try to schedule until I have the part in hand. Disappointed.DAY 4 - 12/8/2020: No shipment notification by noon, so I call Rheem back to find out what is going on. I am back on hold for 20 minutes. Get transferred to the shipping department, wait on hold another 5 minutes. Nice lady tells me that my part has not been processed yet. I express my complete dissatisfaction with Rheem’s process, so she expedites the shipment (which costs $30) so I will receive the part the next day. I thank her and wait for the part to arrive. I receive a shipment notification that the part is being shipped and should arrive on 12/9.DAY 5 – 12/9/2020: Waiting for my part to arrive so I can call the contractor to install it. Based on my prior conversation with the repair guy, it will be another day or two to get someone out. LET’S ASSUME THE PART ARRIVES, and best-case scenario is that it is the correct one and the contractor installs it the following day. DAY 6 – 12/10: Contractor installs the part, and we all get to take a hot shower. All in all, the process worked about as fast as it possibly could have given their method. Which means that it could have easily taken a couple of day longer. HERE IS SOMETHING FOR THE OL SUGGESTION BOX AT RHEEM: 1. Create a few “Authorized Repair Centers” in each major metropolitan area. 2. Require them to stock some basic parts (like an ignitor switch or gas valve).3. Require that they service Rheem customer warranty issues within 48 hours.Problem solved… customer confidence instilled, Rheem’s good name installed! A happy customer is a return customer! RHEEM… 6 to 8 days is TOO LONG to wait for hot water! UPDATE: The part did arrive on time and the contractor scheduled us the following day.

Build our house 4 years ago. Our builder used at the time Rheem AC units, needless to say he has wised up since then. This year has been by far the worst!!! I have had 7 repairs so far this summer season and am currently today October 23, waiting for yet another part to be replaced. Not say same part each time either. Multiple parts have been replaced each summer for the past 4 years. Alternative, replace unit. Really after spending $360,000 to build house. Parts are always on back order with Rheem, the parts you get from them seem to fail quickly and multiple times, and when the repairman has to make multiple calls to even get the parts department from Rheem to call him, theres a problem. Multiple repair men licensed in HVAC have told us and neighbors that Rheem units are crap and to stay away. Rheem your products are absolute crap, and your parts dept and service are even worse!!

Bought a hot water tank Feb 2018. 5 days later it went out! Water leaks no hot water! Called customer service and they said, Maybe get you someone tomorrow? I cant afford to pay again to have their faulty water tank replaced? And why should I? It was ONLY 4-5 days old? Yet customer service said maybe tomorrow??? So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didnt have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow? The tech. makes the decision? O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow? Mike said, I DONT KNOW! Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this mans voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem cant take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. And still here at 10:15 am. NO return call to confirm. They would be here between 4 pm and 7 pm. NOW still wondering will we have HOT water tonight??? Happy Valentines DAY right.

Water heater died two days before Thanksgiving. Knowing I had guests coming for Thanksgiving dinner, I bought a Rheem gas-fired water heater at Home Depot. Installed it (which took me quite a while as I am not a professional plumber). Pilot would not light. Called technical support. They told me they were over-nighting the required part to me to arrive the following day and that a local plumber would call me to schedule installation. Guy never called. Second call: Was told someone would be calling me within another hour. Third call: Rheem then told me they personally called another plumber in their service network who would call me within minutes. No call. I called the plumber. He told me he could not schedule install until he knows I have the part. Fourth call: Rheem told me they could not confirm the part had, in fact shipped until the following morning.Fifth call: After a long time on hold they told me it had not shipped yet. Now advised it would arrive the day after Thanksgiving. I asked where I could buy the part locally (at my own expense). Tech support told me they dont have that info. I argued they MUST at least know who their wholesale distributor is in Maryland so I could locate the part and advise their local plumber that the part is available or pick it up and have it available at my home for him to install. Rheem tech support guy just kept repeating they dont have that info. I asked him to do me the favor of calling their parts division to find out. Told me they dont have the info necessary to make that call within their own company.I elevated the matter to a supervisor. He just kept repeating they are the tech support department and dont have the info necessary to contact the parts division. No rationale. Just kept repeating, We are just tech support. We dont have that information over and over again as if purposely trying to irritate me. I asked to elevate it one level higher - just to find out who is the local parts distributor. Was left on hold for 35 minutes before I hung up. The call wasted more than an hour.Calls the prior day amounted to nearly two hours. Then I called 8 plumbers and 6 supply companies around the state. Was told by several of them that no company stocks Rheem water heater parts. It became clear why Rheem tech support refused to provide the name of any wholesaler or retailer of parts in Maryland and simply kept repeating, We are just tech support. We dont have that information. There are no parts wholesalers nor dealers who carry Rheem water heater parts - at least in Maryland and Virginia. Im hoping the part will arrive the Friday after Thanksgiving and that it can be installed the same day. Otherwise, we will have gone an entire week without hot water due to a defective new water heater and desperately horrible customer service.

I replaced my Rheem water heater less than 6 months ago and I have no hot water. Trying to get a contractor to my home to fix it is awful. I reported the claim on Monday and its Thursday. Contractor never has time. My previous Rheem water heater before replacing it, consistently having problems with upper and/or lower element. MFG kept sending contractor to fix rather than replace the unit. Because so much time passed in the process, the warranty ran out and I had to pay out of pocket towards the new one. And, as mentioned, its not even 6 months old and here we go again. Horrible product/horrible service!

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

Installed AC in September 2012. I am now in need of a fourth reversing value. Total cost less current charges $2000. Local representative has recommended replacement of outside unit at no cost. But I would need to purchase air handler in attic. When I questioned this he stated they only come as a package. Called Rheem warranty department. They confirmed they only came as a complete system and I would need to purchase the replacement air handler. I questioned that logic as since the original outdoor unit was being replaced due to a problem the attic unit should be replaced at no cost. The system has been down since the first week of July 2018. Have made several follow up calls to no avail. Stay away!

I purchased a 30-gallon Rheem water heater on Black Friday 2014. And it worked fine for about 45 days. Then I had to light the pilot light for the first time. So the heater worked for several day after. Then I had to light the pilot again and it worked for several more days, again. Thereafter, the pilot light had to be lit, but then would only stay on less than an hour. Then I lit again. The next day it was out. So I called tech support and they ask for pictures of install. I send. By this time, I call my plumber who installed unit. He could not get it going. So I call tech support again, they say thermal couple is bad and they send one. Their plumber comes out to install and the darn heater still wont light. So he call company and tells them its the igniter switch wire is bad, they send that out. Their plumber comes back, installs switch, gets the heater going. Within an hour, its back out. So I call tech support yet again, the guy says its the control now, so hell send that. Now it wont light, so hot water. This has been a nightmare. I will not buy another unit from this company, this has been hell. Stay away, you wont regret it.

Our water heater has been in service for roughly 1 year and has developed a leak in the heat exchanger. Rheem advertises a 12 year warranty on the heat exchanger, but they have denied my warranty claim. They have my money, so they are content to find excuses to deny claims rather than stand behind their products. Almost $2,000 down the drain. Now I have a piece of junk to dispose of and extra plumbing to decide what to do with. I will never again buy a Rheem product. Buyer beware. Other companies seem to have higher customer satisfaction. I would strongly recommend buying from one of those other companies.

Rheem hot water heaters are junk, dont waste your money! I purchase a new Rheem hot water heater less than five (5) months ago from Home Depot and it has already gone bad. We followed the proper channels and called Rheem customer service department and they figured out what they believed went bad on the unit. The customer service representative promised to overnight the part and told us how to replace the part. We have now been six days without hot water as the rep forgot to overnight the part and it now the weekend and they cannot send it until Monday for Tuesday delivery. We called Home Depot for help at this point and their policy is after 90 days we own it and they cannot help us with it unless we want to pay them an additional $100.00 then they would try to help. Dont waste your money and time on this product and think twice about purchase a major buy at Home Depot! Going to give up and just throw away the Rheem and purchase a different brand! Now I have to wait 2-4 more business days for that part to come. We await service call back on shipment and no word. We call again. No idea when the part arrives. Email to Rheem about the problem and desire for expedited service. No response. Im not sure what quality parts they have but I feel their professional behavior is unacceptable. The customer is unimportant and not worthy responding to. Unfortunately, I made a big investment already and cant back it out. But if you are in decision mode, think twice before committing.

As a single gal, who is not very handy, I thought I was making a great purchase given the product came with a 6 year warranty. Much to my dismay, I found out that the warranty is only a parts warranty! Now I have to wait a few days to receive the parts in the mail and figure out how to install them myself... Put in new breaker. Installed heater. Never did get hot. Called the number on tank and went thru a checklist. The tech talked me thru and decided the thermostat needed to be replaced. They sent me a new one installed. It same thing doesnt work. Called Home Depot and they delivered another new water heater. Took a $100 dollars off the price. Installed the second one and it doesnt work either. So now Im taking it back to Home Depot and going to purchase different brand. Second time this summer I have bought a major appliance from Home Depot and encountered problems.

We purchased a Rheem water heater less than 8 months ago. The product was manufactured in February of 2013. There are only 2 adults in the household and this morning when trying to shower before work, we found there was no hot water. My husband called Rheem to receive no assistance other than Rheem would cover the part, but not the cost of a plumber to install. My husband could install, but Rheem would not even overnight the part, telling my husband it would be 2-4 days before the part would arrive. My understanding is that these water heaters are no longer made in the United States and therefore the thermal coupling will likely go out many times. After reading other reviews, I see there are others with the same problem. It is amazing that Rheem does not stand by their product and take care of all costs (the plumbers fees). We will never buy a Rheem product again and will be sure to tell others not to purchase Rheem products. Perhaps if Rheem stood by their product and took care of their clients, they wouldnt lose business.

I purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water heater in August, 2016. This past Tuesday, no hot water. Plumber came and replaced the bad Thermo coupler. Tonight came home to no hot water. Plumber came, said it is a faulty gas valve. He gave me a choice-back-order a replacement part for $300.00 and wait days to get it and add in labor or it would be cheaper to replace the water heater. That is what I opted for. I am wildly disappointed in that Rheem unit. It was nothing but trouble from day one!

The Rheem tankless water heater is nothing but trouble. We have had constant failure of the unit since it was purchased. I have been on the phone with customer service several times trying to self diagnose the problem along with one of their representatives. The same error code keeps coming up time after time and I cant seem to find any plumber who will work on this unit, apparently because it is such a defective POS that no one wants to touch it. We have even had our gas meter upgraded for a larger one, but the tankless continues to fail. I am hoping to participate in a class action lawsuit against Rheem. The unit is clearly defective and they have offered no solution. In the meantime our family continues to be without hot water several day a week, as paying to have the entire water heater replaced is out of our budget at the time. Considering we spent around $2,500 for it(including installation) 2 years ago, it is quite a disappointment that the company will not even recommend someone for repairs.

RE: Serial number RH 0505 B17863. Manufacture Date 05/2005. Model # 82V52-2. Our home is 14 years old. We went away for Thanksgiving and came home to a flood from the above Rheem hot water heater. It had rusted through the bottom and was flooding for days. Why would you make a hot water heater that could rust??? Our home is still being repaired. I purchased over $30,000.00 of Rheem products for my home being told they were the best by HVAC contractors. Yes it was the best for them because they always fail and need service. I am on my second instant Hot water tank that just failed once again. The Rheem people are curt, and dont deal with consumers well. I had to pay for an electrician to see if I had enough power, which I told them I had, then I had to get the plumber back a number of times. First it may be the fuses, OK Then it may be the Keypad OK another $85.00 OK then it may be the computer board, or the fan, or some more fuses maybe another $500.00 plus labor.I just played that game with one of my 4 ton Prestige HVAC units $2,000.00 on service & parts. None of the codes were right, all the 6 parts for thousands never worked, and then they changed the handler, after a month of no heat and $2,000 paid to a HVAC company. Anybody wants to know more contact me. I have went through 4 keypads on my Raypak heat pump another Rheem product, and my other 4 ton heat pump has a loud knocking bearing noise that I will live with. My plumber installed a new water heater yesterday after our previous Rheem started leaking. Within 3 hours of getting the new rheem installed it started leaking from the top and flooded my basement. My plumber called rheem and explained the situation they basically wanted him to patch it up as best he could. He is now out getting a new hot water heater to replace it. He said he had been using rheem for 10+ years and until now it had been his product of choice. He is now considering other brands. Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Please pass the word about Rheem water heaters. They should be making things right.
