Washing machine not draining
Posted On: March 16, 2023

Hi all. I have a top loading washing machine that is not draining. It shuts off right after the rinse cycle before the spin. I can't hear it even try to drain. It's making no weird noises.

I've followed several lists online to find the problem. When I detach the hose from the wall I am able to drain it so it's not a clog.

The pump access is in the back and it's in a closet that makes it hard to pull out so I haven't gotten that far yet. I will try to do that after the kids go to bed. But if anyone has any other ideas I can try before I call a repair man that would be awesome.

Question from user No_Growth6200 at Appliances at reddit.com.

Answer:

So many variables. If you don't hear the pump even humming - it likely isn't the pump. What happens if you put it in a drain and spin cycle directly? .

Are you on well water? If so - remove the cold water hose from the back of the machine and clean debris out of the filter inside of the valve on the washer. That's a common one. Most washers only use cold water for the rinse cycle….
