Worked great for about 4 months. Then started throwing error codes and kicking off the compressor. So it would only run in electric mode, which is triple the operating cost. I contacted Rheem due to the warranty (be prepared to be on hold 40-60 mins each time), and was told they would send a contractor out. Well, 3 weeks later, I contacted them AGAIN since I had heard nothing, and was told that there were no contractors in my area so I had to do all the leg work to find a contractor who would diagnose it, pay them upfront and I would be reimbursed. Okay, so be aware that most plumbers will not TOUCH a hybrid water heater, whats less try to diagnose or repair it. I finally found one, submitted for the reimbursement (still have not been reimbursed), they sent a replacement control board, had to pay the contractor AGAIN up front to replace the control board (still have not been reimbursed for this second bill), which did not fix the problem.Today, I called Rheem AGAIN and was told that I have to uninstall the water heater myself, drag it back to Home Depot to get a warranty replacement, and pay another contractor up front to reinstall the new one. This has been the most horrible experience and horrible company Ive ever had to deal with for an appliance. When it works, its amazing, but this POS only lasted about 4 months and is not worth the stress or additional money you will have to pay to fix it once it stops working. DO NOT BUY!

Installed 50 gallons Richmond hot water heater. Electrical power supply did not work from start. Waited 2 days for new power supply cord which should have been replaced by service technician since it was clearly a faulty part. Power supply lasted about 10 days before it went out again. Now waiting for a service tech to replace the same power supply I did a few weeks ago. The bigger question is why is the power supply going out in the first place? Never again will I get any Richmond or Rheem product.

I installed a Rheem 50 gallon electric water heater in September of 2016 and had a manufacture date of August 23, 2016, less than 2 years old. I noticed paint flaking off around the bottom and some minor rust forming around the bottom and where the paint was flaking. The water heater is in a basement room but is on a wood platform and not on a moist floor, and has a dehumidifier 5 feet away. I called Rheem customer service to explain the problem. They asked for pictures, which I sent them. They looked at the pics, and proceeded to blame it on condensation from being in the basement, even though it’s off the floor and right next to a dehumidifier. It’s is right on par with others experiences with Rheem. They do not honor warranties and make all sorts of excuses to not have to replace anything. This unit has a 6 year tank warranty on it, and it’s less than 2 years old. I have never had a water heater rust on the outside from condensation. Rust on the tank is a sign of failure of the inner lining and will only get worse. Luckily, I bought the Home Depot extended warranty as Rheem is useless and screws its customers. Horrible company.

To follow up with the pictures I submitted and to the part that was burnt. When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but its in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

We bought a new Rheem heat pump and air handler. 2 months after the 12 month warranty expired we had to have the unit recharged and again 13 months later. We are responsible for the recharge costs along with the labor cost to replace the faulty coil. Rheem knows this is a faulty coil but will not cover the labor. Also the coil in the air handler is leaking and I am concerned about the dangers of my family breathing this for 2 years. Rheem said they didnt think there was reason to worry. This system has been a disappointment from the start and I want everyone to know what a poor quality product this company makes. Dont waste your money on this product from a company that doesnt care after the sale.

I have had this water heater for 1-1/2 years and every 6 months have to have the igniter changed. Getting very expensive for the part and labor. I could have bought a new water heater (certainly not a Rheem though). They know they are having a problem with this so why aren’t they fixing it to make their customers happy. This Rheem gas water heater is CRAP. I always thought Rheem had a good name and quality product. Not anymore. Do not buy from this company. Only wish I had researched before I bought it.

We purchased a Rheem air conditioning unit 3.5 years ago. The unit is still under warranty, but I had to spend $600 in labor to fix the damage THEIR faulty equipment caused to my unit!!! Last week I had to have a new condenser fan motor installed and the unit kept shorting. After the A/C contractor came out today, I was told the faulty fan motor caused damage to coils and have to be replaced for $295!! I am extremely confused as to how I am responsible for labor to fix damage Rheems parts caused to other areas of my unit.

Purchased a Rheems Platinum hot water heater. A little after a year a leak developed and burnt out the control board. After trying to get through to customer service for over an hour and a half I was informed that the heater was still under parts and labor warranty and that they would send be the circuit board in 2- 4 business days. I asked if they could expedite it. Again I was put on hold until the shipping department picked up. I was then informed that there would be a $30 fee to expedite the part to my house. Does not seem fair that I would need to pay for a part that is defective and a direct result of Rheems poor manufacturing. I have a family of 5 without hot water and who knows when the part will arrive and when they can schedule a repair person to install the parts. I pleaded, with no avail, with them to just replace the hot water heater since there was no positive indication of where the leak is occurring. Looks like cold family showers for a while! Totally unfair and lengthy resolution.

I purchased this AC/Furnace and had a problem with it not cooling and the Outside exchanger coming on and off all within the warranty period. The contractor who installed it, fixed it by putting more 410 refrigerant in it. When I asked about the on and off issue I was told that it was a cycling thing going on, was lead to believe that was a normal operation. Recently I had the same problem and another tech from the same company came out and told me it has a leak and he put 5lbs of 410 refrigerant in to fix the problem. He stated the problem was due to low pressure, that is why the unit did not cool and the reason why it turned on and off. Now I am 4 months over the 5 year warranty period, so I am told by the contractor and Rheem will not replace that portion as that is where the leak is without me paying for the cost of the part plus labor. The Rheem products are crap. I spent good money and had a contractor hoodwink me into thinking there was no problems with the unit when in actuality the problem was occurring during the warranty period. This unit should have easily lasted much longer than it did, but unless youre an ac tech youre not in the know. If you are looking to replace your furnace/AC unit look at another company. Rheem is one big rip off. By the way Im a Veteran. All Veterans beware. This company is like the VA.

Replaced our water heater of 20 years with a Rheem because it was a good brand and has been around. It worked fine for a week and then the pilot went out. Re lit and 2 days went out again. Then it was going out every couple hours. I called Tech support with Rheem and said they would have a plumber contact me. Plumber came out and determined it was the main Gas control. Took 4 days to get the part and we installed it and still did the same thing. Called tech support again, they wanted us to take the burner assembly to check if something was tripped. If it was they would send another part out. We have been without hot water for almost two weeks. Im tired of the runaround and took it back to home depot for a refund. So disappointed with the whole situation. They could have overnighted the parts instead of waiting days for them.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didnt heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information. I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesnt work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call. The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheems quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as thats what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

Water heater quit after 5 weeks. Company told me all their techs were booked so I would have to find my own company, pay them, and then submit a claim for reimbursement. Updated on 06/10/2020: Update. I continue to have issues with the 2017 Rheem air conditioner installed at my house. Rheem never followed up on my calls. I had a twenty year old Carrier that worked better and gave less problems at 20yrs. Don’t let anyone convince you to install a Rheem. It is loud, the motor failed once In 2019 and is failing again in 2020. Capacitor failed in 2019. It does not cool well and is more expensive pushing up my electricity bill. How my twenty year unit was cheaper to run is beyond me but Rheem managed to manufacture something less efficient than a unit twenty years old. If you want to quit your job and dedicate your life to dealing with AC problems, this is the unit for you.Original review: Royal Air and Heating in Dallas installed a Rheem unit at my house. The unit is extremely loud and it is like living next to a ship’s engine room. Even the Addison inspector who came out on the permit said the unit sounds like a 40 year old unit. The Rheem unit replaced a 20 yr old unit and the new Rheem unit is much louder than the old unit. It is also next to the master bedroom, so you cannot sleep in that room. In June 2017, when the unit was installed, Royal Air and Heating said a Rheem rep will have to come out and check it. It is now the end of September 2017 and still no Rheem rep has come to check the unit.I also contacted Rheem. They called me back and said they will follow up. They never did. Dont allow anyone to install one of these units at your house. It is a headache and you will not get any customer service. And, you will be waiting forever for a Rheem rep to come out. Surprised this awful company is still in business. Royal Air decided to install Rheem though I raised issues based on the reviews I saw. However, I had no choice since through home warranty. I also had to pay approximately $1,300 for upgrades, etc. And, this is what I am left with, an obnoxiously loud unit that infringes on my quality of life because I can no longer sleep in the master room. It is so loud.

We purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water tank at The Home Depot. I installed the device myself. When it was time to start up the water heater, the pilot light would not ignite. I called Rheem and spoke with a representative who walked me through the troubleshooting process. He determined the pilot assembly unit was faulty and that he would send out a new one. This new unit would arrive in two days - which would be Tuesday. The part did not arrive until Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. To make matters worse and prolong our life without hot water, a contracted plumber could not install the new part until Monday, December 2. Our previous water heater lasted for thirteen years without any issues. This Rheem piece of junk couldnt even get started on install! Reading the reviews here, Im concerned about the longevity of this $400+ device weve purchased and am strongly considering removing and returning it to The Home Depot. A greatly disappointed homeowner and customer.

Bought this new water heater in 2019. 10 months later per tech support the gas valve was bad, they shipped another one, we installed it in July 2020. Two months after purchasing three Rheem hot water heater on July 6, 2015, the water started smelling like rotten eggs in two of them. Contacted Home Depot where I purchased them. They told me the heaters were still under manufacturers warranty. I contacted Rheem numerous times via email on Rheems website and did not get a reply. Home Depot then gave me their number. Spoke with a representative who told me it was not their problem it was my water. I explained about the other heater that did not smell. She said I would have to purchase a chlorinator for each heater about $250 ea. and sent me an email with information where to buy them. I said it was the anode rods and they said that was not covered under the warranty. After that, a friend would flush the heaters with hydrogen peroxide and that would help until I went out of town. I was tired of asking him to do this so contacted Home Depot again on Jan. 8, 2017. This time they told me to call Asurion, the extended warranty I bought. That was a huge waste of time and money as they gave me the runaround too! After reporting Home Depot to the BBB, I was contacted and they contacted Rheem. Rheem called a plumber, told them to call me to call them to open a claim with them. I called Rheem and they told me the same thing they told me a year and a half ago. So Im back to square one.

I have a Rheem water heater and the upper thermostat went bad in a unit that is less than a year old with me. Called the support number on the unit due to no hot water. Troubleshooted it and they said they had to have me call an electrician to check the unit for proper power. I did and the unit has a bad upper thermostat. Rheem support argued with me about the electrician did not do the right testing but yet they are sending me a upper thermostat anyway, the support person did nothing to help the customer and I called back and it got worse from there. The other customer service person argued with me that the power was wrong and the unit was hooked up wrong but yet the unit worked fine for the first 7 month I have had it.I had this unit installed by a professional plumber company that does these all day long and I was surprised he could tell how it was hooked up from his chair at his house WOW!!! Rheem has wizards working for them now!!! This type of support was so bad and as the customer I am wrong because from their home where they sit answering the phone they can tell how I have this unit installed wrong even after having professional people look at it. WOW Rheem you have the best employees on the face of the earth!! So if you buy a Rheem hot water heater be prepared to have your family suffer on a SUNDAY of all days to run out of hot water and get their wizard support team to tell you the customer how wrong you are and how you installed their unit wrong. Dont buy the Rheem water heater for the warranty, it is worthless. It only covers parts, which leaves you at the hands of the thieving plumbers. The ignition and thermostat system is overly complicated and may fail. Mine lasted 5 years (12-year warranty). The plumber wanted $350 to repair the unit, the part (covered) is $112. My son who lives out of state does home repair and said it was a 15-minute job. I am trying to order the party under warranty but that is not going well. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. I contacted customer service 479-648-4900 and spoke to Cody regarding having to install another aluminum coil after 16 months. She explained; “The coil is under warranty for five years however the homeowner is responsible for the cost of all labor and refrigerant.” Well the cost for labor and refrigerant is $1400 to remove a defective coil and install another (no doubt) defective coil. After reading through other reviews of RHEEM’s defective coils and the cost to remove and install, I’ve decided to replace their crap with a reliable system. Taking into consideration that their coils continue to fail, I anticipate having to pay $100-$150 a month as a cost to owning a RHEEM HVAC system. I will also be posting my comments on other sites, not only to inform prospective buyers, but to seek relief from govt agencies since this is a consumer issue that Rheem is fully aware of!

My house came with a Rheem water heater. It was 5 yrs old when we moved in, after 3 year it started to leak and corrode around the top. We replaced it with another Rheem in 2013 brand new. In 2016 it failed, just stopped working. I called the plumber who installed it. He said nothing he can do so I called Rheem. They said I need to check it with a multimeter? The guy told me to go buy one. I asked my plumber who got on the phone and he somehow got them to replace the water heater, but I have to purchase another warranty.Five hundred and fifty dollars later to be installed it was working but not as hot as our last one. Then one year later 2017 it stops working again. My plumber is disabled and retired, so I call Rheem and after being on hold for hours they tell me again to get a multimeter to check whats wrong. If is electronics or an element they can tell me how to replace it. First of all, my parents had water heaters for 40 years. These only last for year? Im no electrician, Im not taking apart a water heater and fixing this junk! Im done buying anything from this bottom feeder. That is why they are in the home improvement stores. They are junk!

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 my water heater, which was purchased and installed on 8/28/17 stopped working. We contacted Rheem and was told that they would send a replacement part and would send someone to install it. After we received the part, Rheem told us that they did not have anyone to service our area and we would have to find our own person. We contacted several companies and we finally found someone to come out, but they wanted to be paid at the point of service. The contractor informed us that it was the wrong part, so we contacted the company again and they sent us another part. The new part arrived on Friday, May 4, 2018 and after installation the contractor informed us that the machine needed to be replaced. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would put in a request for replacement through one of their companies and we would be contacted within 24 hours. We waited the entire weekend and Monday morning to be contacted. Finally, we called Rheem back and they gave us the number to the contractor whom they sent the order. The contractor told us that they told Rheem that they do not service the area. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would need 24 more hours to contact another company. On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, I was told by a rude representative that they have done all they can do and she would transfer me to another department, who she said could help me. I spoke with a new rep who was more understanding of the fact that I have not had hot water in over a week; however, he put me on hold and transferred me to another department. I spoke with another rep who told me that I can find a person on my own because it was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a manager and she told me to hold on and transferred me to Fidelity Bank. We have not found a company who are wants to work with this company and no one can help us with this faulty product.

18 months ago I bought a Rheem water heater from Home Depot and had it installed by them. Friday night, May 25, the pilot light went out. We were unable to keep it relit. Called Rheem. (Has six year warranty.) Paid $1600 for the heater. They said it probably needed a Pilot Assembly Replacement kit. They would send one to my home from the parts dept. However, since it was the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend, the part couldnt be delivered until Tuesday!!! (Four days later). Their parts department wasnt open all of the three day holiday. So, on Tuesday morning, I called to track the part. They couldnt tell me anything, except it would be sent out that day, and arrive on Wednesday. Now five days without hot water. I asked to speak with a manager. Said nothing he could do would expedite the part. He was sorry. Very poor PR for Rheem. Additionally, Consumer Reports, that I belong to had no ratings for Water Heaters. Not a happy consumer today. Very upsetting.

My wife is worried our original Rheem 81V52D 50 gallon water heater is going to go out. I replaced the lower heater about 12 years into its life; only been drained once. 4 people live here and I'm the only 5 minute showering man. Good recovery from back to back showers for 1 hour. Now the hard part is getting a dual 4500 W unit like I had.

Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Please pass the word about Rheem water heaters. They should be making things right.

I purchased a Rheem water heater in June 2014 from Home Depot. The tank failed several days ago. I tried warranty service over the last several days and I got a message it wasnt in service, try later... Or wrong serial number. Today I called the 800 621 5622 and got a customer service rep. He tells me to bring it back to Home Depot for adjustment. Home Depot doesnt deal with Rheem anymore. Cant even special order. Parts can only be obtained from their authorized plumber and any regular plumber wont touch or recommend Rheem for obvious reasons. Essentially Rheem warranty program is a sham. My recommendation: Dont buy anything from Rheem. Model # XG48TOGEN40UO S # RHUNM181401735 manufactured 29/4/14.

Rheem Gas 50 Gal Hot water Heater - Installed 11/02/2013. In August 2014, pilot light started going out. It would re-light and heater would work for a few days. Then pilot would go out again. Repeated this scenario several times. Called installer who referred me to warranty service man. Fixed at no charge but I was told that it was going to fail again, and while the part would be free, a service charge would apply after 1 year of installation. Service man said it is a design flaw, probably caused by the Closed Heating Chamber and the unit was not getting enough ventilation. Corrosion from carbon monoxide damaged the thermal coupling and would re-occur. Rheem Customer Service offered no advice or help.

My water heater was recalled due to fire hazard. I was informed by Rheem that the control panel they normally provide (free of charge) is back-ordered with no ETA. I was told that I had to return the faulty water heater to the point of purchase for a new one. I got the exact model, just a few years newer and had to pay ~$500 more for the new one, okay fine. Here is where it gets bad. Rheems deal was to reimburse me the installation fee up to $450. I provided all of the necessary paperwork, filled out their forms as instructed and have email confirmation that my reimbursement is approved and a check would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks. Here we are over 10 weeks later, and counting, and no word from Rheem. They will not respond to my emails and I cannot reach anyone on the phone. What started as their faulty product, barely halfway into the products warranty, should have been a free fix has ended up costing me well over a $1,200! I would have been better off to cut my losses and purchase a water heater from a different manufacture, which is exactly what I will do when this one craps out before the warranty period is up. I held up my end of the deal, they will not hold up theirs.

This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors
This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors plumber for around $800.+. I had no control as to the choice. It recently stopped working and I had a friend who is a certified heating and air conditioner contractor. He said that the heater is leaking from the top and fills up the blower and shuts off the exhaust. There as a safety will not turn on the burner. He removed the water from the blower and the heater worked for two weeks. Loaded up with water again. I never was given a copy of the warranty, so I did not know about the six years expected life on this expensive heater. I have had two other homes and never had a water heater that did not last 15 to 20 years and they did not cost $800+. I called Rheem, but warranty is no more, which would not have made any difference, from what I read from others that had the same model 41VRP4ON, and got no response. My heater has been fixed again and is expected to run for another two weeks, until the blower fills up again. When I finally give up on it, the service man says he is going to take it apart and expects poor welding by the manufacturer where the pipes goes into the top. No heater would leak from the top in less that 6 years if it was properly put together and inspected. I will certainly let my contractor as well as the others know about this brand, in order that others are not cheated out of their money!

I needed to purchase a new natural gas water heater because my Rheem / Rudd brand started leaking. It was installed in 1992 so I figured I couldnt go wrong buying another Rheem. Bought it at the big box store, took it home and had it installed within an hour. I tried to start it up using the easy start system, but the pilot would not stay lit. They idiot proof these new water heaters so you cant actually access anything or complete any kind of small repair. All over the box, the tank, and instruction manual it says that I cant return the unit to the store. I have to call their 1800 number and get assistance. This is where things get interesting. I called the number and explained what was wrong. The support person walks me through the same stuff thats written in the instruction manual. He comes to the conclusion that the unit is defective and tells me a work order will be created and within one day someone will call me. Of course a day passes and no one calls me. So I call Rheem and they tell me that a local company has the work order. Called the local company and they tell me that they dont have the part to fix the tank and they can’t come out until Rheem sends ME the part. I call Rheem, and of course they tell me that they wont send me the part and that the local company has to first come out and diagnose the problem. At this point I am angry and explain to them that it is the middle of winter, I have two small kids and just want hot water. I ask if I can return the tank to the store and they tell that they wont authorize a return until the unit gets diagnosed. I call the local company back and they tell me that Rheem is giving me the run around and that the part is probably on back order so it could be weeks before I get the problem solved. He tells me I would be better off dealing with the big box store. I called the big box store and explained the situation and they agreed to take the unit back as defective. The big box store and the local company apologized. Rheem were jerks. I hope the company goes bankrupt and all of their support people lose their jobs and have to go without hot water.

Water heater (electric) dead after 4 years of use and flooded our garage. Rheem will not give any sort of credit or reimbursement for a new unit as they say it can only be returned to a plumbing supply store. They can not or will not deal with the public. No way to get a credit even with me willing to pay for a new one. Bad company, bad product. The Rheem AC in my office also went bad after 9 months, theyve garbage as well. Spend a few extra bucks for equipment that will last longer and a company that will stand behind their product.

I purchased a Hot water Heater from a local Menards. It was installed by a contractor. 2 weeks after installation, the hot water heater started leaking from the bottom, behind one-panel rust was forming and we had no hot water. My contractor and I called Richmond 800 number, only to be told I can not replace the hot water heater, they have to send out someone to install a part they think might be wrong from pictures I sent them. Keep in mind this is winter and we now have to wait 1 week for it to be fixed. So, NO hot water for my family for 1 week.Nothing Rheem will do or could do to assist other than tell me that the people to repair are on their own time frame. The reps I spoke to on the phone were rude and not helpful at all. I am very disappointed, I feel stuck behind a rock because I dont want to pay for someone to fix it and risk not getting reimbursed. If I had to do this over, I would not purchase this type of water heater only due to the dissatisfaction of customer service.

Hot water heater pilot light problem. I purchased a hot water heater on October 21, 2015 and on January 14 no hot water! I was told to call our local gas provider PG&E. The service technician for Pacific Gas & Electric arrived at my house Saturday, January 16 and stated that the water heater was no longer good. I then on the same day went to Home Depot with my receipt and the statement from Pacific Gas and Electric. I was then told that they would not take it back. A Home Depot employee told me I would have to call the manufacturer and gave me the phone number. The employee from Home Depot stated that the manufacturer would have to give Home Depot permission to accept the defaulted product. On January 20, 2016, I called the manufacturer and described to him what had happened and read the Pacific Gas & Electric statement to him and he said that they would not allow Home Depot to take it back and exchange it. The employee that I spoke to you from the manufacturer stated that he could mail me some parts or something. I then told him that as a consumer and from what my statement from my local gas company states the product is defaulted.

We purchased a Rheem furnace 3 years ago and have problems ever since. It quits every winter. The control panel goes and there is not much you can do. At this time, I have been without heat for five days. We live in Prince George and the temperature was over 30 degrees below. Needless to say, we have been very cold. Fraser did come out right away and determined that the control panel was not working again. The water pipes were freezing and despite our small heaters, we had to call in a restoration company to heat the basement so the pipes wouldnt break at $150.00m call out plus $35.00 per day. It would seem that we have a very inferior product. Our old furnace was 30 years old and we never had any problems. Thirty below is very cold and we have had enough. The parts were supposed to be in yesterday but now we have been told maybe tomorrow. Any advice and how to we get this bad product replaced?

Purchased a Rheem hot water tank and had it installed August 2020. It is now mid December 2020, and the hot water is running out in short time. This was due to the bottom heating element failing. Rheem’s warranty at this point is full parts and full labor. Called Rheem and after a few transfers I was finally given a service approval. Their plumber did call the next day and they did show up the following day. The tech tested the bottom element and stated the element faired due to Dry Fire. I know this was not the case. The electric was only turned back on after the tank was filled and the water lines had the air evacuated. I mentioned these details to the service tech, and he gives me this other BS explanation about if the tank was left outside to long when it was being installed-the sun can heat up the element- bla, bla, bla....Here is the bottom line. Things can break for no reason other than it has an issue, maybe during manufacturing but if a company offers a warranty then they should honor it! Rheem did not for me. Hopefully if you buy something from them and you have an issue they will honor their commitments. Rheem shame on you. PS- I fixed it myself- took all of 10 minutes once the tank was drained. The service tech took more time talking to Rheem and writing up if excuse than it took to do the work. Im also a Builder of 30+ years so I has completed my share of hot water tank installs.

Then I noticed the breaker tripped again, I reset it and about 3 min later I smelled electrical burning, we all know the smell. It now appears that we will need to have the Freon recharged and the blower motor replaced. It is NOT acceptable to have to spend $300 - $1,000 every summer to keep an AC running - ESPECIALLY one that is less than 5 years old. It seems that Rheem will replace the coils (that they know leak Freon) IF the customer pays to have a technician make a service call, place the coils in water for several days to locate the leak and they are able to verify it to Rheems standards. Then, the customer must pay to have the technician make another service call to replace the coils. ALL Labor is on the customer, not to mention the fact that the customer is without a unit for several days during the process! Shame on Rheem! They know of this problem, but are doing nothing to make it right.

WARNING - Be sure to register your Rheem Heat Pump. Without registration, you lose 5 years of your 10 year warranty. BETTER YET... DO NOT BUY RHEEM. If I could zero or negative star I would. My installer did not register my unit 7 years ago nor did I. I was not given a registration card to mail in. For the past 4 years, Ive had 5 techs here to work on my unit. Made a horrible loud banging noise that would wake us up at night. The blower motor was replaced. See-cell warped fan blade on condenser replaced. Thermostat replaced. Added 2 lb. of freon... All to no avail. Now the compressor is gone.I had AEP out when I got a $400.00 electric bill. They said air was not circulating evenly throughout- kept the unit running continuously. I had to close of 3 rooms to afford my electric bill. I mailed Rheem Corporation a copy of my dated bill, installation date, model #, serial # and copy of my 10 year warranty. Their reply was ... Sorry.. Theres no registration recorded, your warranty is gone. So Rheem Corporation is gone for me. My friend also purchased a Rheem heat pump and her unit is having the same problems. DO NOT BUY RHEEM.

Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldnt get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didnt have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!! While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas companys fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now its a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didnt do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Dont buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

We purchased a home in Florida 10 yrs ago for when we retired. We purchased a brand new complete Rheem AC unit from Heavenly Air in our town in 2012. We were told they would register it and we would have a 10 year warranty. We finally retired and moved in last fall. So actually the unit was never used on a yearly basis, just while we were here for 2 week vacations twice a year. It was set for 85 degrees any other time. The unit stopped throwing cold air. We called Heavenly Air. Yup, out of business and the company that took over will was no help. We called an air conditioner service they said 1200.00 to replace the coil. They reached out to Rheem, Rheem said it was never registered. I don’t have proof as I trusted Heavenly Air. The original manufacturing date sticker on the unit proves its not even 10 yrs old. So, please consider this if you are thinking about purchasing a Rheem system.

In September 2016 we had to replace our Trane A/C and heating unit, because a/c went out and the Freon situation. It was replaced with a Rheem 410A Heat pump. We had A/C repair issues before the end of 2016. Probably 3 or 4 in 2017 the same in 2018. Now we are in 12/2019 about the same amount. The A/C is out which went unnoticed to the cooler weather until the heat went out. So here I am in Mississippi in December with no heat or A/C. Since the loss of our Trane unit we have had to invested in portable A/C units. Have always liked Rheem water heaters, never a minutes trouble with one in my home while under warranty.

Not sure how many of the water heaters made by Rheem are faulty. But mine was (just a knob in the front, so far) and let me tell you, the customer service sucks. They were rude and dismissive to my plumber when he called the night he installed it. Then neither of us could get hold of them the following day (a Wednesday). Finally on Thursday morning, I reached someone who was clearly bored and not caring. She told me a local contractor had the job so I needed to call them. A rude and dismissive person was eventually reached (after 2 hours of calling) at the local contractor number. Nobody could come out until the following day, Friday (today). When he finally showed up, he told me he was there to do a determination on what was needed. Then he had to call Rheem, and order the part. Which would not be shipped until Monday! Mind you, this puts me at a week without hot water, apparently due to the company who makes this water heater not caring!!! DO NOT BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT.

I called Rheem and they said theyd send a replacement part on Monday--today is Saturday. This is not the 19th century. The fact that this unit failed in less than a year and the fact that I have to wait three days for a part is ludicrous. I should have heeded the poor reviews on this product.

We had a Rheem Gas water heater that was continual problem. Rheem sent us new parts and the gas valve switch continued to be an issue. We paid for a plumber to come out twice. They then keyed the unit is unrepairable and had their service tech come out to replace the heater. I had to go to the Home Depot to exchange the water heater with them because I had purchased it. I was charged an additional $160.21 for the exact water heater unit because they said they price had gone up in the last year. I called Rheem and they said that it was not their issue and that I needed to follow the procedure for Home Depot. I asked if I was supposed to pay for a new price or a straight exchange and they continued to repeat over and over that I needed to follow Home Depot procedures. I feel like I was not taken care of well, had to pay for a plumber twice to come to my house and an additional $160 because of their faulty water heater. I would not purchase this brand again.

I bought a Rheem water heater in May 2017 from Home Depot. 7 months later it failed right on Christmas Eve. I called Rheem and the warranty part was sent quickly, but since they could not find any contractor in my area to do the work, they said I can use anyone local. I filled out the warranty claim and sent all the required paperwork back on Jan 2nd, 2018. First they said itll take 6 - 8 weeks to process the claim. Its now 2 1/2 month (March 16th, 2018) and my claim was still not processed. The last time Ive called, I was told that they were back-up in the warranty claim department (wow... imagine how many units have failed that could create such a back-up), but since its more than 8 weeks, theyll expedite my claim. Guess what, expedite or not, my claim is still in limbo somewhere. Very disappointed with how Rheem handles customer claim. No wonder no contractor in my area wants to work with Rheem. People, please dont buy Rheem, not worth it when you have to be hold 45 minutes on the phone with them or call them every month to check on your warranty claim just to hear the same excuse.

Its under warranty through Rheem. Oh Boy was I right but told I was so wrong by the Rheem HVAC customer service rep Sandy, so asked for the supervisor and got Tim and he said the same statement. Rheem limited warranty disclosure, under Exclusions line J states.1) Any covered equipment manufactured by the manufacturer that has been sold to the consumer via the internet or auction website, AND has not been installed by a trained, qualified HVAC professional. Rheem will not deal with warranty, saying I bought it from a liquidator (Budget Heating and Air). Not a liquidator at all. Waited 2 months and installed in December. Incredibly loud!!!! Sounds like a loud compressor running beside the house. If the outside temperature gets cold it is very inefficient warming the house. At -10C (14F) it couldnt keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.

It never stays lit. I called Rheem - they told me that they would replace it or fix it. They told me to get a plumber to come out. The plumber called up Rheem and told them that everything was hooked up properly but it is not working correctly - that it needs to be replaced. They told them that there was a tiny leak in the water that they tighten and fixed instantly but it had nothing to do with the problem. Rheem told them that it is not covered now because there was a water leak. I cant even begin to tell you how small this leak was. It was nothing. Rheem was just looking for any excuse not to replace it. They are such a joke.I would never buy another Rheem - I would never recommend one. My plumber kept telling them that the water had nothing to do with why this is not working. But they didnt care. They told me to go buy another one. Horrible customer service. Horrible product. First of all, because this is a new tank, the parts are not available in stores or from suppliers. And of course it always works out that things quit on a Thursday or Friday. That said after a misdiagnosis they sent me a part that worked for one day then quit but being the person I am, I dug farther and found that what they said was broken and the part that was broken were two different things. They sent me the assembly for the igniter, the problem was a cheap weld job on the circuit board. A piece fell off and I resoldered it which fixed the problem but created another. They wont send me a new part under warranty as I modified it in their words. I never heard such a crack but anything to not have to warranty something. Moral of the story is buy a reputable brand with parts that can be purchased off the shelf. When youre out a thousand bucks and have no hot water, youll remember this if you buy what I bought. Model XG50S09EC40B0 by Rheem and I bought mine from Home Depot. They had no parts and offered no solutions.

My basement flooded nearly three years ago. I had to replace the water heater down there. I know you buy a Rheem Platinum Performance because Home Depot said it was the best. Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!

Technician came out to find the system to have no refrigerant and found that a factory solder joint was leaking in the outdoor heat pump. Repair was made and in April of 2016 system stopped again technician found system to be out of refrigerant again due to a leaking outdoor coil, replaced outdoor coil, system stopped again in April of 2017 technician for evaporator coil to be leaking, replaced evaporator coil, system stopped again in Dec. 2017 due to a defective coil temp sensor, replaced sensor, system stopped again in Dec. 2018 due to a defective compressor, when compressor was replaced technician found that the expansion valve was also defective which caused the compressor to fail, replaced compressor and expansion valve, system stopped again in Jan. 2020 due to expansion valve failing again, The contractor that did the installation of the system contacted Ruud and I also contacted Ruud to file a lemon complaint. Apparently Lisa whom I had spoken with and did not hear back from until 2 weeks later got with Wayne whom the contractor had spoken with must have gotten together at some point because they both told the contractor and myself the same story. Purchased a brand new Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot in 2018 and right out of the box it was DOA. It says right on the side of the heater to not return it to the place of purchase but rather to call Rheem customer service (which is the worst customer service). Three days later (without hot water) I received a replacement controller. $225 later a plumber installed it and it still would not work. Two more calls to Rheem (they called themselves Rheem because they ream you) and they ship a replacement pilot light kit. $180 for a plumber to install and after many attempts it lights and heats. Works great for a couple months and then the pilot light goes out. Many attempts later and another $120 visit by a plumber they fix it and it now works for close to a year before the pilot light goes out again. Call the plumber and $120 he resolves the issue after three more days of waiting for the part. Works this time for a year and now two and a half years after purchase it dies again. Three days without hot water and multiple calls to Rheem (ream) and they are shipping a replacement part (oh by the way if you want expedited shipping that costs $30 but it still takes two days). I finally got done. It is not worth the hassle of dealing with this company and their garbage product so I am replacing this piece of crap with an AO Smith. The sad thing is that two plumbing companies told me not to purchase Rheem and I did because they had the better warranty. Well the warranty is useless if your only option is two wait for three days for the part and then you still have to pay the plumber to install it. Note to self. Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Lets see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others dont give me much hope in this regard.

They will keep stalling on replacing your water heater until you give up and buy a new one because you need hot water. 12-year warranty tank, only 4 years old. Already had to replace the thermocouple 2 years ago. Second failure now only lets it give hot water for 1-2 minutes and its out. Since this was not my first bad experience with a Rheem heater customer support, I just went straight to a plumber. They told me the tank needs to be replaced. OK, next day I call support, they want me to check a couple things and get back to them, fair enough. Call back 2 days later, they have no record I ever called so we start the entire process again, and they decide to send me a new gas control valve even though the first person I talked to said that didnt fit the symptoms. 2 days later I get it, and install it. Still broken, call back again, by now its been a week without any hot water, and everyone in the house is pissed at me. They want me to run a water temperature test AGAIN for a third time, even though Im already well aware the water gets hot... it just runs out in about 2 minutes. They want to send me another gas control valve, even though I just installed a new one they sent me that day. Which I wouldnt get until Tuesday since its a Saturday. Refuse to allow me to trade it in for a new one, and the supervisor tells me its clearly a plumbing issue since the gas control valve was replaced and I checked the dip tube and its not cracked or broken. He tells me just like a water heater, parts can fail in plumbing. My copper pipes can fail somehow causing hot water to run out quick? With zero plumbing changes? Yeah, OK, they clearly are just coming up with any excuse possible to not give me a working water heater. At this point I need hot water, so I give up and go buy a Whirlpool. Hey, I have all the hot water I want now, turns out my copper pipes didnt break in a fashion that sucks the hot water up. Shocker, it was the water heater. $750 down the drain on a new water heater because their support refuses to actually help.

I had a professional install a new water heater. The old one had finally quit working. He installed a Rheem. When he turned the water on and it had time to heat water the first time the pressure valve wouldnt stop leaking. So I called Rheem and after a fight they agreed to send a new pressure valve to me that I installed. That stopped the leaking for a couple years. Still under warranty 4 years later it starts to leak again... I call them back and they wont send another pressure valve out but tell me I have to install a thermal tank? I have the lowest pressure of all my neighbors and none of them have a thermal tank why should I, now, need one? They say if I install a thermal tank and it doesnt fix the problem that it is probably the water tank. What a piss poor company... Never again will I buy or allow a Rheem on my place!!!

I purchased a tankless water heater from Rheem and after the install was completed it did not stay on always shutting off at no particular time or reason. Rheem sent off many parts and I had many service calls to put the new parts on at my cost. Then two and half years went by and I thought that all of the parts that were defective had been replaced. No, the unit started shutting down again. Then, Rheem replaced the unit but would not reimburse me for the labor to install the new one. I waited sixteen weeks for them to finally tell me that they would not give me a dime for the cost of their defective produce. I had been in contact with them throughout that time period and they had asked for all of my paper work. They had such an extensive file on this case that they had given it two different case numbers over the years. In conclusion I would not recommend dealing with this company they have a bad public relation policy. Jessica

We bought a Rheem water heater from Home Depot, it kept leaking. I called Home Depot. They told us to replace the valve, so we did, still leaking. Called to see what we should do. Told us to buy an expansion tank. If that didnt do it to return it. Returned it for a new one and guess what. It leaked too!!! I have never been so frustrated with a product. Even the guy that installed it for us mad. I hope they will let us return this one.

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

I purchased a water heater last week. I had a guy come into install it for me. He got everything done and went to fire it up and nothing. After talking with the company who said they could send out service, but it could take about 1 week. Well with all the stuff going on in the world and me being a healthcare worker I need hot water. The guy takes off the black box at the top and lo and behold one of the three wires is not connected. Its a manufacturer defect and still will take about one week. So, the guy rigs it so we have hot water. I called 2 business days later because no one called me to set up service to find out that the call was disconnected and he never put it in. He had all my information already. Of course they had an excuse. I will never purchase another water heater from this company again. I also paid the guy to install it and they will not reimburse me anything. You know what I would like to do with this heater.

I have a Rheem water heater Model # 22V30F with a broken Pilot Knob. I contacted Rheem and multiple parts suppliers. They all told me the same thing. Rheem does NOT sell the Pilot Knob individually. I need to purchase the Gas Control Valve which costs anywhere from $80.00 to $150.00. What a ripoff! Only the Federal Government would pay $80.00 or more for a knob that is worth less than $5.00. I guess Rheem wants to Ream their customers. I will never ever purchase any Rheem products again. I have seen the same knob on other brands of water heaters. I will try to get a knob from one of them.
