Not cooling properly? 
This could be something as simple as a thermostat setting, but it could also be that the unit isn’t the right size for your home, or that the refrigerant is low. Signs that the refrigerant is low include the unit blowing hot air, bubbling or hissing noises, ice on the refrigerant line, and fluctuating temperatures. 

Compressor won’t run? 
When there’s a problem with the compressor, there are many possible causes, including low refrigerant, too much refrigerant, a loose connection, low voltage, and defective contactor or capacitor. 

Bad smells? 
Air conditioner filters can absorb odours from your home, such as smells from cooking or smoke and distribute them throughout the house. The easiest way to fix this problem is to change the filter regularly. 

Reduced airflow? 
This is likely caused by a dirty or clogged filter, and can be fixed by changing the filter. 

Won’t run at all? 
There are many potential causes for this problem, including defective control board, power problems, thermostat settings, bad wiring, and high- or low-pressure control problems. 

Leaking water? 
One possible cause of this is the drain pan is full because of a clog, and the leak can cause damage to the unit. If you do notice water leaking, the drain line may need to be unclogged. 

Coil problems? 
Condenser coils can get dirty and need to be cleaned once a year, whereas evaporator coils can be damaged by corrosion and should be serviced every three years.

Aug 8th 2020 -(1) The fan motor on heat exchange stopped working and had to be replaced. Within one Months time we had to replace: (2) The coil and (3) The reverse valve. Although the parts are under warranty the labor cost us around $3000.

Please before you buy a Rheem HVAC, research the quality of their coils. A year after purchasing a new system I have been experiencing dirty sock syndrome. It is a known issue with the coil and there is a known fix, the coils need to be dipped with in a bronzing solution or an epoxy. This prevents mold and bacteria buildup on the coils and then spewing the spores throughout your home. Rheem calls it an environmental issue and refuses to reimburse for the costs to have the problem remedied. After installation either a UV light or a Global Plasma System at my expense, my issue may be resolved, again Rheem refuses to reimburse my costs. I am also reading that their coils have a problem with corrosion and failure, once again a problem corrected by dipping to prevent the corrosion. Buyer beware, the limited warranty is just that, extremely limited, no labor to replace defective parts, no Freon replacement costs on defective equipment, no labor to correct their known issue with dirty sock syndrome. I guess they think these things just magically fix themselves. I bought my unit from an authorized Rheem dealer and was told these were some of the best units on the market.

We have replaced the coil on 12/5/2015 and we have just been informed on 7/16/2016 that we need to replace the coil again. It is on order. Additionally we have had numerous repair calls for spot welds and recharging of the Freon. It has been a nightmare owning this system. I would discourage anyone from purchasing an HVAC system from RHEEM manufacturing. The warranty implies or leads to an expectation of a reliable product. However this is not a reliable product. We purchased our unit through ESP Services Inc. This company has suffered through this with us. They have been stalwart in attempting to keep this system operating. I truly regret purchasing this RHEEM Heat Pump.

This was written off as foreign debris in lines and repaired at the cost of the service company who were also accompanied by a Rheem rep. Now 14 months later the indoor fan has decided to slow down not drawing enough air through the handler which caused heavy condensation to soak the filter thus restricting airflow further until the coil became completely iced over. Waiting to hear a response from Rheem on this one. Service Star repair rate for one hour of labor is more than 2 months of my total electric bill at 287.00. Id steer clear of both of these companies as theyre both profiting on selling consumers junk.

I replaced my 15 yr old HVAC unit with a Rheem about 3 years ago. Since then, Ive had the fan unit outside replaced in yr 2 as it was unbalanced. Not from misuse and not from damage. That leaves quality. Now in yr 3 I have a blower unit that is acting up and goes into alarm so frequently well turn the system off at night as there is no way to suppress the alarm. The tech said that the control unit in the motor senses hesitation in the motor and throws the alarm. When the blower doesnt start a second alarm is thrown for the main limit switch. A061F and T022F are the codes shown on the EcoNet t-stat display. The system is still under warranty but Ill end up paying over $300 in labor to replace another major component due to another quality issue. My old system wore out but never had issues like this. I would advise anyone NOT to buy a Rheem. Hope their QA people read this.

April 2014 I purchased a Richmond (made by Rheem) LP tankless water heater to replace a 15 year old Paloma that had finally sprung a leak. Purchase cost was $800 at the Rapid City Menards, I did not purchase an extended warranty. January 2017 I noticed a leak of water under the Rheem/Richmond heater. Upon removing the cover I discovered the heat exchange plenum had failed and was leaking water into the exhaust fan housing and ultimately into the electrical connections in the bottom of the heater.I called Richmond which ultimately ended up at RHEEM. They wanted pictures of the unit and the location of the install. I submitted pictures and instantly RHEEM claimed improper installation. I have read a lot of other reviews of dissatisfied customers who have experienced Rheems claim of improper installation. Installation claim is that we must use their version of the Concentric piping to properly vent and intake outside air. My specific case vents the exhaust perfectly well, however living in a frozen portion of the US, I fail to see where drawing sub zero air down 20 ft of pipe with a warm air pipe traveling inside this cold air, thus producing condensation, and ultimately frozen ice in the upper regions of this pipe, will produce less stress on the machine than drawing ambient (60 degree F) air from 12 inches away.Regardless they claim improper installation and refuse to repair, or warranty the water heater. This is a workmanship/engineering flaw of the gaskets at connection points in the heating plenum. Not a fresh air issue. I try to buy American, but they plainly admitted to me that the engineers were not available for consultation due to their residence in Japan. I live in a remote location and cannot be burdened with a sole supplier. Lowes has to order a unit in, taking a week. Home Depot has a tiny unit on the shelf that wont even come close to the 150000 btu rating that this Rheem was. And Menards is the only one with more than one on the shelf...sadly they are both Rheem. So Im forced to take it in the rear with another $800 Rheem.

I had a new Rheem Classic Heating and Air Conditioner installed on 6-14-2012, or at least my Homeowners insurance did. After receiving 2 bids for replacement, my insurance company awarded the bid to a dealer who installed Rheem Units. The unit was a combo heating and air conditioner unit that sits outside, at the back of the house. It is a RRNL unit. It is a 2- 1/2 ton unit, which was the size of the one replaced. The old one kept our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter, unit it suffered hail damage that rendered it useless.Long story short, the new unit has never worked right as it does not even come close to cooling our house. Of course our old unit had real Freon in it where the new unit uses the 410A stuff. Unit has already had to have compressor replaced, has already had to have Freon added once and needs again and a new fan motor. It is not even 4 years old yet. The fan on the unit runs continually and never shuts off in the summer. We keep the thermostat set at 72 and according to the digital readout, the unit never cools the house down to this point, thus running day and night.I had to pay $200.00 labor to have the compressor replaced under warranty, which I dont think I should have had to do. When the fan went out a couple of weeks ago, I asked the installer/repairman if there was any recalls on this unit and do they ever get a LEMON in these. He told me no on both questions. I had to pay to have Freon installed, but the fan was replaced under warranty and he did not charge me to switch out. I am really dissatisfied with this unit and which I had my old one back, or at least this one replaced.

Rheem is horrible, if an HVAC contractor tries to sell you one get rid of him as well. I installed 3 units at my house in 2012 and after a year I had to replace an evaporator coil on one unit. After 2 years all three evaporator coils were leaking and need to be replaced as well as numerous other problems. Rheem covers parts but not labor, every visit has been at least $500. The comfort control 2 (Rheem Thermostat RHC-TST551CMMS) is not programmable to a laymen, they dont give you a manual. Try to find any information for Rheem online other than to fix one or buy one. There is none, they sweep the internet so you call the repair facility nearest you so they can come out and charge you to repair it. An out of town family member who owns an HVAC company relayed to me that they are the least dependent and he loves them. Rheem has washed their hands to even talking to the consumer as well. Try calling Rheem, good luck. They tell you they have never had issue, theyre not even sure they make AC units if you have a problem. Try looking for manuals on their website, there are none. Not even to program the thermostat. They throw codes constantly and guess what, call the technician to reprogram its $100.00 plus to visit and $$$ to fix it, thats if they are telling you the truth. The company has had issues with all of their products from water heaters to AC units and they deny ever having an issue. They are unscrupulous and their product is pure junk. I would go on but, its not worth it other than to warn you, a $20K home improvement has become a total liability.

We have experienced the most disappointing customer service from such a reputable company like Rheem. We purchased the water heater from Home Depot for our rental property. In less than 6 months from our purchase, it stopped working. We thought it would be a simple fix, like re-lighting the pilot light, but it wasn’t that simple. I proceeded to call Rheem customer service to find a technician who could help us with the issue. After several hours on the phone, on hold and with dropped calls, a customer service agent was able to help me determine the issue. A part needed to be replaced and Rheem would be shipping that over. Several issues with this solution: 1. Why couldn’t a local technician purchase the part locally and service us right away? 2. Why isn’t the part readily available at a big box store, like Home Depot, where it seems they only sell Rheem water heaters?3. With Rheem customer service / shipping dept estimating 4-6 business days, our tenant would be out of water for almost a week. Why couldn’t the shipping be expedited as a courtesy since the water heater repairs were still under warranty?Sure enough, the part took a long time to arrive to us and was even delayed. The part did not arrive at our rental property location for 9 full calendar days (7 business days). Because the part took so long to arrive, our tenant, who is a single mother with 4 young kids under age 12, was not able to have hot water. This is unacceptable for anyone living in the United States. We had to allow her to live in a hotel during this time. Therefore, we had to forego the rent she would have to pay us during these 9 days.Our family and friends have been long time customers of Rheem and have bought many products, including water heaters and air conditioners. We thought the reputation of Rheem’s products would be on par with your customer service, but that is far from the truth. We will be wary of purchasing additional Rheem products and will advise our friends and extended family to do the same. We would also like Rheem to do some further investigations, since it seems this part has ongoing issues, and possibly recall this water heater product or part. A water heater should not break down in less than 6 months. I have now seen numerous bad reviews regarding your water heaters and your customer service. For a large reputable company, this is not how you treat or retain customers.

A few months later the other control board failed - labor cost $230. Then a month later the coils in the handler started leaking Freon - labor cost $900+ and then in October one of the compressor failed and had to be replaced - labor cost $700+. Very poor product quality value and we are led into a false sense of security with this 10-year warranty that we get, but that is only for parts. A $5500 system fails in 2 years! I asked Rheem for help and they said no.

My installer did not register my unit 7 years ago nor did I. I was not given a registration card to mail in. For the past 4 years, Ive had 5 techs here to work on my unit. Made a horrible loud banging noise that would wake us up at night. The blower motor was replaced. See-cell warped fan blade on condenser replaced. Thermostat replaced. Added 2 lb. of freon... All to no avail. Now the compressor is gone.I had AEP out when I got a $400.00 electric bill. They said air was not circulating evenly throughout- kept the unit running continuously. I had to close of 3 rooms to afford my electric bill. I mailed Rheem Corporation a copy of my dated bill, installation date, model #, serial # and copy of my 10 year warranty. Their reply was ... Sorry.. Theres no registration recorded, your warranty is gone. So Rheem Corporation is gone for me. My friend also purchased a Rheem heat pump and her unit is having the same problems. DO NOT BUY RHEEM.

We purchased the property a few years before and it still had the original a/c, so we decided to be safe and buy a new one. MISTAKE! We used a local A/C company in that area and purchased a RHEEM along with the semi annual maintenance contract. We recently made a trip to Fla and found that the a/c wasnt working and that it also froze up causing wet floors. We called our A/C company. The cost was 500.00 to come out on Monday 1/2 (a holiday). We were only there a few days and needed to get it fixed to prevent mold/mildew. They needed to put a dye in the system to see if there was a leak. Well there were multiple leaks. So for an addtl 586.00 for labor they would fix it. Their warranty is a joke! Rheem knows that their products are defective and they only last a short period. They should have to pay for the labor to fix their defective product. I wish we could bond together and go after them for a selling faulty products and hold them accountable for costs associated with their defects. This is the United States of America, we deserve more.

Purchased this brand new AC from my air conditioner specialist not quite 2 years ago and have had a few problems that make me NOT so happy. First it was the compressor failing which had to be replaced, under warranty. Great but the labor was not under warranty so that cost me $175 which doesnt sound like a lot but when you shelled out $4500 for a new AC just under 2 years previously it is a big deal. He installs that and puts some fluid that was recommended into a valve and off he went. The AC worked for about 3 hours before it went bad -- froze up. He came over in the evening and looked at it, and said now it was the valve that he had gotten a service alert on. Although he put in some fluid as they described apparently it needs to be replaced again. That is under warranty BUT over $500 in labor and cant do it then. Will have to come back and do it. So $675 worth of work on a NEW air conditioner and 4 nights without AC in August in Florida. Had to move my pets out of the house with me for FOUR nights. Not good!!!

I purchased three separate Rheem HVAC units for three of my house. Has one unit failed within three months and needed a new water pump. One unit failed within 9 months and needed a new fan motor and the third unit managed to last two years and needed a new condensing fan motor. For what you pay for these systems I cant even see one of them failing this quickly but three systems is inexcusable and I dont run my air conditioning hard at all. I keep my house at 81 degrees and the two other houses are kept at about 75 or 76 degrees. There is no excuse for these units to fail this quickly.Every time I call Rheem they just tie me up in questions about serial numbers and product numbers and they never give me a firm answer as to why the systems failed so quickly and they obviously have never made any offer to reimburse the expenses of repairing these systems. The first two were covered under the warranty. The third one was not because it failed in two years so I was stuck paying for the repair. Im actually afraid to use my air conditioning for what might break down next and I cant see these systems lasting 10 or 20 years. If theyre breaking down like this now I dont know who regulates HVAC companies but Rheem needs to be reported. They are either making substandard products or they are pawning off reconditioned systems as new systems.

Bought a brand new Rheem 3.5 ton ac system last year to replace a 15 yr old Goodman and have regretted it since. The system is only 8 months old and I have already had to replace the entire a-frame coils due to manuf defect/design failure, like many of the other people are complaining about. Also had to replace the blower motor and control board just to keep my home cool! Now, as I write this, the condenser fan motor sounds like it went or will go this soon and will most likely need to also be replaced. I think the only thing left I havent replaced is the condenser itself. I would be surprised if Rheem are not bankrupt next year. Ill NEVER buy anything made by Rheem or Ruud. They have no quality control and contractors are dumping them from all the black eyes they are now getting because of Rheems bad failing products.

It is a good number for a low quality heating and cooling products business. Rheem is not a good company because they sell lemons for heat pumps. I had to spend more than $2,000.00 for a 3 years old unit in repair labor and R-410A. The unit had the reversion valve replaced before (only parts are covered by the Rheem warranty), more than a year ago, and now it needs the txv to be replaced. The unit was still leaking R-410A according to one HVAC technician that recharged the unit couple times. The contractor (Rolph HVAC from Seaford, Delaware) that installed our heat pump does not do business with Rheem, according to the owner/representative, because of bad experiences with that company. When I talked with the customer service representative from Rheem to complain about our heat pump, she said that Rheem will replace the part that is on warranty, but labor costs are between the customer and the installer. I had to explain to her that because of a defective unit from her company (Rheem), I had to spend money every year on repairs for a new unit that is only 3 years old and that should not be that way. This unit should be working without any issues for many years and should not be like what it is now, a money waster. The customer representative was helpless, and she referred me back to the company (who are making money out of this situation, of course) that installed the unit. This is not right - selling and installing defective units so the customer have to pay for repairs and labor for a brand new cheap Chinese heat pump unit. I will never buy a Rheem product again since they have these cheap Chinese defective new products and bad customer service.

We were told they would register it and we would have a 10 year warranty. We finally retired and moved in last fall. So actually the unit was never used on a yearly basis, just while we were here for 2 week vacations twice a year. It was set for 85 degrees any other time. The unit stopped throwing cold air. We called Heavenly Air. Yup, out of business and the company that took over will was no help. We called an air conditioner service they said 1200.00 to replace the coil. They reached out to Rheem, Rheem said it was never registered. I don’t have proof as I trusted Heavenly Air. The original manufacturing date sticker on the unit proves its not even 10 yrs old. So, please consider this if you are thinking about purchasing a Rheem system.

Updated on 06/10/2020: Update. I continue to have issues with the 2017 Rheem air conditioner installed at my house. Rheem never followed up on my calls. I had a twenty year old Carrier that worked better and gave less problems at 20yrs. Don’t let anyone convince you to install a Rheem. It is loud, the motor failed once In 2019 and is failing again in 2020. Capacitor failed in 2019. It does not cool well and is more expensive pushing up my electricity bill. How my twenty year unit was cheaper to run is beyond me but Rheem managed to manufacture something less efficient than a unit twenty years old. If you want to quit your job and dedicate your life to dealing with AC problems, this is the unit for you.Original review: Royal Air and Heating in Dallas installed a Rheem unit at my house. The unit is extremely loud and it is like living next to a ship’s engine room. Even the Addison inspector who came out on the permit said the unit sounds like a 40 year old unit. The Rheem unit replaced a 20 yr old unit and the new Rheem unit is much louder than the old unit. It is also next to the master bedroom, so you cannot sleep in that room. In June 2017, when the unit was installed, Royal Air and Heating said a Rheem rep will have to come out and check it. It is now the end of September 2017 and still no Rheem rep has come to check the unit.I also contacted Rheem. They called me back and said they will follow up. They never did. Dont allow anyone to install one of these units at your house. It is a headache and you will not get any customer service. And, you will be waiting forever for a Rheem rep to come out. Surprised this awful company is still in business. Royal Air decided to install Rheem though I raised issues based on the reviews I saw. However, I had no choice since through home warranty. I also had to pay approximately $1,300 for upgrades, etc. And, this is what I am left with, an obnoxiously loud unit that infringes on my quality of life because I can no longer sleep in the master room. It is so loud.

June 2016, cooling problems again, same HVAC repairer came and said it was blocked drain and suggested we avail of their maintenance plan and we did.August 22, 2016 cooling problems again. HVAC repairer came at night and concluded that coil has a leak and was 90% sure it was the coil inside because the outside unit coils didnt have any signs of leakage. For this visit we paid $177 labor and freon refill. So far we have spent $700 for the three visits. To replace the coil it will cost $500 plus and that is already with our membership discount. This RHEEM brand is a piece of junk and reading through all other reviews, Im so mad that I didnt do my research and trusted the Home Depot specialist. The only consolation I have is that I took a maintenance plan so at least I get a 15% discount every time they have to do repairs.

Tell me it needs parts, Freon, new condenser and maybe that would fix my problem. It would be about $4000 and it was not guaranteed. It would not happen again. I was told by two companies that Rheem units are a piece of crap and they do not sell them at all. I purchased another new unit. I do not think things should break in less than 10 years. An almost 1 year long attempt to get some kind of response from Rheem ensued. I finally wrote the CEO at his Palace near Atlanta. Some corporate puppet with a horrible attitude did ring me. He was reading a script and rudely informed me there was nothing Rheem would do for me. I thanked him for wasting his and my time. Fast forward... 1.5 years later, I HAVE NO AC AND NO HEAT... during a cold spell in Boca Raton, Fl. I called the service company. The tech arrives and immediately tells me, Its working! No surprise there. Well, 2 hours later he proceeds to tell me, Well, in Florida, sometimes the pressure does something to the system, which makes it not function. WHAT!!! So, he fixes the AC part but tells me now I dont have any HEAT! It was 62 in the house. You can buy a heater for $340. Wait I minute!!! I paid for a system that DID give me heat, and now youre telling me I dont have heat, cant have it with this system and the Florida weather is to blame? GIVE ME A BREAK!! So in essence the product was KNOWINGLY sold in a climate that causes it to malfunction. This is pure crap! I am reporting this to my congressperson, who has in the past achieved GREAT results for me! I, like millions of us are SICK AND TIRED OF GETTING RIPPED OFF BY WALL STREET!!! Overall it has worked as stated except it now takes about twice as long for the terminal faucet water to get hot. Though annoying, not overly serious. The prompt for this review was this morning when the hot water stopped mid-shower. I live in the Pacific NW, far more mild that much of the country and well within the working geography indicated by Rheem. Last night was cold (for us) dipping into the lower 20s. This resulted in a freezing of the condensation tube preventing it from draining causing the system to shut down with an error 29 (blocked condensation drain tube). This tube vents directly out from the bottom of the unit. I had to go out into the cold to investigate and found an icicle hanging from the drain which I removed then put a heat lamp beside and below to warm up the bottom of the unit. When it melted a rush of water came flowing out and the unit was able to be reset and return to normal function. I called Rheem tech support and the only suggestion was to insulate the end of the condensation drain tube. I dont see how this is going to help; the water will still freeze as it drips down to the bottom of the tube. I suppose my only recourse will to keep a heat lamp on the bottom of the unit on nights that it drops into the 20s! It seems to me that if this unit was designed to be installed outdoors in areas where it goes below freezing and that condensation tube has to stay free-flowing they would have figured out a way to keep this from occurring with a small heating coil or something.

The cause was eventually determined to be a leaking coil in the air handler in the basement. Since were not the original purchaser of the HVAC equipment, none of it is covered under the factory warranty. But the installer advised that these Rheem/Ruud coils are leaking on almost all of the units made around that 2012 time-frame, and its throwing good money after bad to spend the $1000+ to repair it, vs buying a whole new system. At this point, Im just waiting for the 2nd. floor unit to fail as well...

The water heater is in a basement room but is on a wood platform and not on a moist floor, and has a dehumidifier 5 feet away. I called Rheem customer service to explain the problem. They asked for pictures, which I sent them. They looked at the pics, and proceeded to blame it on condensation from being in the basement, even though it’s off the floor and right next to a dehumidifier. It’s is right on par with others experiences with Rheem. They do not honor warranties and make all sorts of excuses to not have to replace anything. This unit has a 6 year tank warranty on it, and it’s less than 2 years old. I have never had a water heater rust on the outside from condensation. Rust on the tank is a sign of failure of the inner lining and will only get worse. Luckily, I bought the Home Depot extended warranty as Rheem is useless and screws its customers. Horrible company.

On 3/17/2016, during a routine servicing, the tech advised me of another manufacturers problem - a leaking evaporator coil resulting in loss of R410 refrigerant. I was told workmanship will be $585.00 (part is covered by Rheem). Two major problems tell me that this product is a LEMON. I think Rheem should stand behind its products and do not make consumers, especially the elderly, bear the burden of its shoddy manufacturing process. I am just one of the hundreds of Rheem customers who have claimed about their products and I hope some agency will make this company shoulder its burden.

Within 1 year my 2nd unit would not cool, service tech had to replace condenser coil.... Looked as if it was damaged from factory. That winter it would not run in heat pump mode, had to replace control board in condenser unit. Following year same unit would not cool again..... Evap coil bad, had to be replaced. The following spring the AH blower motor would not come on, new ECM module and motor replaced. Year 3, this same unit would not cool again and my 2 ton unit would not cool effectively. Both units had leaky evap coils that had to be replaced. Now as I write this the 2 floor unit is not running again, I suspect the ECM or blower motor. South Louisiana in summer is not fun with no AC. Summary: In less than 3 years Ive had 4 coils a control board, ECM and motor replaced in 3 units, all the while fighting tooth and nail with Ruud customer service that is of no help. Oh and by the way the 10 year condenser unit replacement warranty is only if the compressor goes out. Yes they will cover parts under warranty but not labor or refrigerant. I have over $1,600 in repair bills on what was supposed to be high-end units. DO NOT buy Ruud.

NEVER BUY A RHEEM HOT WATER HEATER. We bought a 40 gallon Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot. After 2 weeks we awoke with the house full of fumes and the carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. Here is my experience: 1. They dont actually have technical support. What they have is untrained people, without any actual experience reading a script from a manual. 2. If you have the same issue 2 or 102 times they will repeat the same painstaking process each time as though you never had the problem before. 3. If you ask to speak with a supervisor, they are basically hired to ** the customers and duck liability.About me: I just completed building a duplex single handed. Foundation, framing, electric service, gas service etc. I have done my own HVAC and H2O heaters in my own homes and apt buildings for 40+ years. My workmanship is excellent and take pride in getting it right the first time, every time. So after only a few weeks operation, an H2O heater comes close to killing my wife and myself I call the company. After very frustrating phone calls, they send out a tech. After 45 minutes, without checking gas pressures, or pressure switch or actually doing any diagnostics he resets the controller, starts the heater and leaves. 15 minutes later it is in lockout. More calls, nobody listening to the CO/fume issue, they decide to send a new pilot assembly. There is zero possibility of this fixing a draft problem, but it is the cheapest part they could send. So, their solution is to send a 15$ part that wont fix the issue and turn the thing back on and see if it poisons us again.I declined that solution. They said that was all they were willing to do. Home Depot has said they will replace or give store credit which would be acceptable, but we will see if that follows through. One of the HD workers says he gets a very high return rate on the Rheem unit so my guess is HD will stop selling these in a year or two. In short, Rheems response to a critical, even life threatening situation is completely inadequate, technical assistance is less than what any handyman could find on the web in a couple of minutes, and at 1/10 the aggravation.Another issue (might be the same issue) is the bearings in the blower are awful noisy for a new unit. Rheem used to be a good dependable brand and I still have 3 of their older furnaces installed which I have been mostly satisfied with the exception of the cheap bearings they put in the induction blowers. I wont be buying Rheem/Rudd units again unless they have exceptional reviews.

Then May 2019 the upstairs unit A coil had to be replaced. Now today June 24, 2019, the downstairs unit A coil has to be replaced (guess the sealant did not work). By the way, according to the technician who installed the unit and did the repairs, in the upstairs unit stated that the warranty did not cover or expired?? Do money out of my pocket for PART & labor.Now today the downstairs unit needs A coil replaced. I contacted the technician today and gave him a rundown on the dates, charges, and work done over the last (barely) 5 years since the install of these units and asked if these units didnt have at least a 5 year warranty? Note.... The company that installed the units amis the same one that services them. Researching in the internet, it appears that many units are warrantied for at least 5 years, some 10, 12 years or more. So, in my opinion, go purchase another brand of HVAC.... Stay away from Rheem. Check the warranty and get it in writing before you decide to have it installed.

The part is covered under warranty, but the freon that lost because of this bad part was not covered. This freon would not have been lost if not for the bad part, but the warranty says its not covered. Therefore, it cost me over $600 for the repairs. As I read the reviews on this site, I see that others have the problem and the replacement coils have gone out in a year or so.

The contractor came back about 6 times trying to resolve the issue, adding more freon, etc. Then he stopped taking my calls. I was forced to hire a new HVAC person and they found a leak in the heat pump coils and believed it came that way from the factory. I contacted Rheem by email and phone and they said that would never happen that my HVAC installer must of damaged the unit so will not pay for the repair $330 or the very high electric bill.Next a heat relay in the air handler went out, then the heat expansion valve, then the coils need replaced in the air handler. My contractor told me the coils was something he was not surprised about because that was a known factory defect and he has replaced every coil in every unit he has installed...they fail with in 2-3 years. I called Rheem and asked at what point is this unit considered a lemon, but they just blamed it on my original installer. Besides all the repair bills, the electric bills have been outrageous. I have already reimbursed my tenants $1200 for high bills due to the heat pump not working properly. I have also paid about $500 extra in electric before the condo became a rental. Last week, I just got a call from my tenant that his last electric bill was $560.The condo is 1190 sq ft in Louisville Ky. I have a 100 year old house with old windows and a 25 year old gas furnace and 4 dogs that go in and out all day. My house is 3700 sq ft and my bill in comparison was $485. Of course I called the HVAC people, and this time could find nothing wrong. They suggested that I might be better off replacing the unit since it seems to be a lemon. It is only 3.5 years old and every time I get it repaired I am hopeful that it will work. I have no more hope.

We now have bigger & more expensive problems with the a/c than we had before. Rheem makes an inferior product & I wouldnt wish this product on anyone. Do not buy from Rheem, youll be sorry. P.S. When the hot water was turned on somewhere in the house, the tank would attempt to fire up but wouldnt actually ignite, and then the unit would flash an error code #11. The person needing hot water would wait and wait for it but would never get it. This happened more and more frequently. The plumber who installed it sent a Rheem rep out who blamed it on insufficient gas pressure, without actually testing the pressure. HVAC guy said we had large supply line to the unit. Rheem manual (only obtainable online) was of no help. Finally after months of a continually worsening problem, a person on the Rheem help line told us it was probably dirty ignition coils. She gave us instructions on opening up the unit and gently cleaning the fragile coils. Now we have to do this complicated process every few months. Very annoying! And the most frustrating thing is that my friends with other brands of tankless heaters have never had to do anything to theirs after many years and they LOVE their tankless heater. I HATE mine!

It recently stopped working and I had a friend who is a certified heating and air conditioner contractor. He said that the heater is leaking from the top and fills up the blower and shuts off the exhaust. There as a safety will not turn on the burner. He removed the water from the blower and the heater worked for two weeks. Loaded up with water again. I never was given a copy of the warranty, so I did not know about the six years expected life on this expensive heater. I have had two other homes and never had a water heater that did not last 15 to 20 years and they did not cost $800+. I called Rheem, but warranty is no more, which would not have made any difference, from what I read from others that had the same model 41VRP4ON, and got no response. My heater has been fixed again and is expected to run for another two weeks, until the blower fills up again. When I finally give up on it, the service man says he is going to take it apart and expects poor welding by the manufacturer where the pipes goes into the top. No heater would leak from the top in less that 6 years if it was properly put together and inspected. I will certainly let my contractor as well as the others know about this brand, in order that others are not cheated out of their money!

Cost of room a/c unit due to medical issues and 10 days to wait for repair $341.00. This is a manufacturers defect so be aware that this problem exists. They will not cover it. The Rheem compressor is a microprocessor-controlled, dual compressor design. From summer of 2014 onward, this compressor will latch up and not self-recover from any disturbance of the AC power coming to my home: brief power outages or brownouts will cause it to stay off. Originally, just pulling the fuse cartridges for 2-3 minutes and re-inserting... would make the unit recover. After 2015, this easy fix no longer works: now the compressor unit needs to have the cover removed such that the technician can do a hard-reset of the microcontroller boards by pressing circuit board switches to clear the (saved and displayed) error codes. Two weeks ago the A/C would not come on but error code 21 was showing, and this was traced to a Freon leak in the ADP-manufactured evaporator coil. This is a known problem with Rheem A/C units having the original copper coil; my local A/C contractor, Alaskan Home Services, had to change out three (3) such coils... including mine on the same day. The new ADP coil appears to have the same model number as the old (copper) coil, but it has aluminum tubing rather than copper. Checking online, it appears that evap coil failure in Rheem units is a widespread problem; there is even an attempt at a class-action lawsuit on this issue.Now yet another new problem has surfaced with the furnace / air handler unit: gas burner comes on, but the duct fan does not, resulting in an error code 46 on the controller board for the air handler... and the burner shuts off. And this came after the evaporator coil repair. I am really upset that this high-cost system is so unreliable... especially since it was bought with reliability in mind. Additional issue: Alaskan now charges me a diagnostic fee for coming out... although my old paperwork on the extended PMA (preventative maintenance agreement) was supposed to be all-inclusive contract, with no trip or travel time charges. Review of the PMA paperwork shows diagnostic fee ABSENT as a topic.

Used an internet ad to find a great price from an local supplier in Florida and they sell to the public. I had issues with a bad furnace board when we set the first unit, so I figured no big deal. Its under warranty through Rheem. Oh Boy was I right but told I was so wrong by the Rheem HVAC customer service rep Sandy, so asked for the supervisor and got Tim and he said the same statement. Rheem limited warranty disclosure, under Exclusions line J states.1) Any covered equipment manufactured by the manufacturer that has been sold to the consumer via the internet or auction website, AND has not been installed by a trained, qualified HVAC professional. Rheem will not deal with warranty, saying I bought it from a liquidator (Budget Heating and Air). Not a liquidator at all. Rheem, Please read and know your own wording, AND in the middle means both statements together as written in your own document.

Not a big issue as the repair company could do it quickly and only cost $250. It breaks again 7 months later in the middle of August in Florida. The condenser coil has a leak which caused all the Freon to leak out and burn out the compressor. None of that is an easy fix and will end up costing us $1900 for a unit that’s less than 3 years old. Called and talked to Rheem and they are unwilling to help. All they’ll tell you is the parts are under warranty and there’s nothing else they can do and will hang up on you. So unless you want to be spending thousands of dollars in labor every year to get it fixed and deal with the worst customer service I would stay far far away.

I called my HVAC man and he came out. The blower motor had gone out. Not only did it go out, but the barrel and housing is rusted onto the motor and cant be removed. Parts are not in stock and have to be ordered. I will be without air for a week when the parts get here with an outside average temp of 110 here in Arizona. I wouldnt put another Rheem on my roof if they gave it to me for free. What a piece of crap. By the time the repairs are done, I will be in this over $2,000. My advice is to stay away from this product and company. If they cant make a product where you dont have to replace almost every major part in it in only 6 years, it’s obvious they dont care about customer satisfaction. This is my opinion. Almost immediately and continuing today, the heat pump shuts down because of condensation working its way into a vacuum line that monitors the gas valve. I have been told that this problem is particular to Rheem (and they are aware), but have not corrected the problem. I tried submitting my problem and complaint to Rheem on their website but when I press the submit button, nothing. The comments go nowhere. I have turned the gas valve a 180 degrees on its bracket so the tube has a slight back flow. Im hoping this helps eliminate the problem. I will never purchase another Rheem product again.

Upon investigation and numerous calls I became aware that the company is selling units with copper coils (aluminum is the best choice) that are eaten through by the Freon and thus cause leaks in the coils which and in turn the unit shuts down.The company denies that they are having significant problems and will not help me financially address the repair. So, at this time I am repairing my air conditioner from my own Pocket even though I bought the units in good faith along with the assurance that Ruud/Rheem was a trustworthy company, WHICH THEY HAVE PROVEN ARE NOT TO BE.When I called the company, the customer service representative was in complete denial of the problem and I think they were trained to say certain pat answers to avoid liability. I Highly suggest that everyone reading this write or call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION as I did and a rep will call to take your complaint and if enough people do so there will be a federal investigation based on the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, look it up to educate oneself.

Approximately, 2 1/2 years ago I purchased a Rheem 3 ton air conditioning unit at a cost of $4,800. In May, 2019 the unit stopped cooling and I called the original installer. They informed me that the copper coil was leaking and would no longer hold Freon. They ordered a replacement part and installed a new coil for a cost of $1,004. This unit was not merchantable from the factory but Rheem maintains that there is only a limited warranty on parts. Rheem is manufacturing lemons and refusing to stand behind its product. It appears there is limited quality control. Other air conditioners I have owned have had minor repairs and lasted 10+ years.

I posted a complaint on here on September 19, 2013 after having to have Freon replaced in my unit for the second time (summer of 2012 & Sept. 19, 2013). The unit was placed in service on 4-25-2011. It is now 4-11-2014 and the blower motor is out after the unit ran on a prolonged base because the condenser shut off due to LOW FREON. It now appears that we will need to have the Freon recharged and the blower motor replaced.It is NOT acceptable to have to spend $300 - $1,000 every summer to keep an AC running - ESPECIALLY one that is less than 5 years old. It seems that Rheem will replace the coils (that they know leak Freon) IF the customer pays to have a technician make a service call, place the coils in water for several days to locate the leak and they are able to verify it to Rheems standards. Then, the customer must pay to have the technician make another service call to replace the coils. ALL Labor is on the customer, not to mention the fact that the customer is without a unit for several days during the process! Shame on Rheem! They know of this problem, but are doing nothing to make it right.

Rheem replaced the part under warranty but would not reimburse me the labor or the freon which cost $450. Then in 2016 the replacement coil started leaking just like the 1st replacement. Same story, Rheem replaced the part and I was out another $450. Now its November 2018 and the 2nd replacement coil is leaking and I have no a/c. I have heard from HVAC repairman that there are many other people in the same situation and Rheem refuses to make any changes or improvements to the coil, so I expect this will go on indefinitely. Stay away from Rheem!

We had A/C repair issues before the end of 2016. Probably 3 or 4 in 2017 the same in 2018. Now we are in 12/2019 about the same amount. The A/C is out which went unnoticed to the cooler weather until the heat went out. So here I am in Mississippi in December with no heat or A/C. Since the loss of our Trane unit we have had to invested in portable A/C units. Have always liked Rheem water heaters, never a minutes trouble with one in my home while under warranty.

She explained; “The coil is under warranty for five years however the homeowner is responsible for the cost of all labor and refrigerant.” Well the cost for labor and refrigerant is $1400 to remove a defective coil and install another (no doubt) defective coil. After reading through other reviews of RHEEM’s defective coils and the cost to remove and install, I’ve decided to replace their crap with a reliable system. Taking into consideration that their coils continue to fail, I anticipate having to pay $100-$150 a month as a cost to owning a RHEEM HVAC system. I will also be posting my comments on other sites, not only to inform prospective buyers, but to seek relief from govt agencies since this is a consumer issue that Rheem is fully aware of!

Purchased a new Furnace and Air Conditioner in 2013 and have had nothing but problems. In 2017 the air conditioner was leaking gas and needed a new evaporation coil. At first we were told that the coil was not covered under warranty but after some investigation on our part we figured out that it was indeed covered, however we had labour cost of over one thousand dollars. This year during a bad cold snap the furnace broke down and needed a new blower. The blower had to be ordered from the States which took 2 weeks to arrive. The blower is not covered by warranty so we were on the hook for the labour as well which was again well over one thousand dollars. Now 2 months later the furnace has stopped working once again and it appears to be the same issue so it’s a cold waiting game until after the weekend to find out what’s wrong this time. Honestly unless you have an unlimited budget for repairs I would stay well away from this product!
