We replace a water heater April 2015 with a Rheem electric tank in our vacation rental. Sept 2016 our tenant called us to say there was no hot water. Couldnt believe it. We had a plumber attend the condo to find out that the wires on top of the water heater were fried. We needed a new hot water heater of course. This happened on a Saturday and Rheems office was closed.I called Rheem on Monday for them to tell me I had to go through who I purchased the hot water tank through which was Home Depot. A representative at Rheem told me they would reimburse the labour to install the new tank. Im still waiting as of today being February 13, 2017. Rheem has the worst customer service I have ever had. They tell me someone will call me back in a day or so. They tell me it takes 6 to 8 weeks for an answer. Wow its now been 6 months and still no answer. I am so done with them. NEVER PURCHASE A RHEEM PRODUCT!!!

Buyer beware. Paperwork that came w/ hot water heater says it has 9 year warranty. Failed after 6-1/2 years (tank leaked/not fixable). Escalated issue to Customer service Supervisor, said warranty only 6 yrs. Not covered and nothing they could do. Wasted 6 phone calls to company to try to get them to issue me some coverage under warranty. Somehow it was my problem that the paperwork that came with my hot water heater was wrong and I was suppose to know this.

We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater.
We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in September 2018 (almost three months ago). Its broken and I have no hot water. I called them and they sent a horrible service tech out to my house who could not fix it. Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call Rheem. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the heartache, tears and stress that Ive been going through.

Bought a new Rheem 50 gallon gas water heater from Home Depot. Plumber installed water heater but it kept cutting off. He walked with Rheem technician and found the new heater had a faulty valve. After a lengthy delay, Rheem sent the new valve and it was installed. We tried to have Rheem pay Amerigas (he worked for them) for the installation. After repeated delays because of missing paperwork (we sent multiple copies), Rheem indicated they would pay the gas company. They have not and now the gas company tells us we are late in our payment. We have never been late in our payments to anyone!Today Rheem told us they had sent us a letter (Right! We have received no such letter!) telling us they will only pay about 40% of the installation fee for that defective part. NEVER AGAIN!! Do not buy from Rheem. They send defective products then fail to cover the installation cost of replacement parts. Never again! Stay away from this company. Now we are left to worry about this water heater should anything go wrong with it in the future! What kind of company is this!! Oh, and their service department is a joke. Sadly the joke was on us. Stay away!!!!

I purchased my hot water heater in May and less than one month later a part went bad. The heater would not stay lit. The part took over 7 days to come then another part went bad. Now I have to wait 2-4 more business days for that part to come. After spending 1000.00 dollars for a hot water heater in May I have had parts replaced on a brand new hot water heater and now its November. I have a 6 year warranty. Its just the inconvenience on a tank I have only had 5 months and 1 week. I will never buy a Rheem product again.

We purchased a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater yesterday and had it installed by a licensed plumber this afternoon. Install went fine. Turned the water on and then the electric on, and waited a bit so the plumber could make sure all was well. All was not well, the water did not heat. Our plumber ran through the typical diagnostics and came to the conclusion the water heater was bad. Yes, it was bad, but the Rheem customer service was worse. This is a brand new water heater and they have said it was 3 different problems and they will send out a part. We wait for the part and then they will send a tech out--so we could be without hot water for more than a week--they could not give a darn. Brand new and this is the customer service you get--please folks, do not buy a Rheem. This story has a happy ending only because Home Depot in Holiday, FL is awesome. They are replacing the thing and going above and beyond for us. THIS is why we only use Home Depot. Rheem, take a clue from Home Depot and amp up your customer service or you wont have any customers to service.

Purchased a 50 gallon Rheem electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Had a master plumber install the water heater. He thought all was working well. Never got any hot water. Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater. My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

What happened to the Rheem quality that I grew up with. This unit is only 3 years old and began leaking at the base below the lower T-Stat. It caused severe water damage to the interior of my unit. My plumber shared that the quality control on the assembly line is poorly managed. Examples of units that have failed revealed only partial interior glass lining which instantly began rusting and a thinner gauge of metal used to build the tanks.

Purchased water heater with 6 year warranty. Paid licensed plumber to install. Less than 3 years after installation water heater starting leaking from manufacturers hole in bottom of heater (photos were provided to Rheem Warranty Division). On July 4th room was flooded and I was able to get a plumber to come that holiday, remove water heater and replace with a new one. Plumber was only able to purchase from Home Depot and bought a $480 Rheem replacement water heater. Contacted Rheem and they said, You need to return the old heater to us. This made no sense to hire someone to pack and then ship back to Rheem in order to possibly get some type of pro-rated refund.I had just paid another $500 with tax for another one of their substandard water heaters. I also researched online and they do not have a good reputation for warranty returns nor are they rated well in the country for product reliability. Do your research before you purchase and if you do purchase a Rheem forget any type of customer service or warranty honor.

DO NOT BUY RHEEM. LOUSY PRODUCT!! NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT!! WARRANTY IS A JOKE!! Purchased Rheem 40 Gallon electric water heater from Home Depot Online. Had very hot water for 2 days. Then over next 2 weeks water temperature started declining. Yesterday water temp not even lukewarm. Unit has completely failed.Called Rheem Customer Service took over an hour to get through. They said a plumber would call me within one day. About 2 hours later I received an email from Rheem Customer Service stating This is Gemma from the Rheem Contractors Department. Rheem contracts with local plumbing companies (Authorized Service Providers) to provide diagnosis and repairs when our water heaters are within the labor warranty period. Unfortunately, our ASPs are currently unavailable at this time.No ASPs available!?! I live in one of the most densely populated suburban areas on planet earth and there are no ASPs available to service my 2 week old Rheem Water Heater?!? I went to Home Depot to find out how to proceed. Home Depot told me to uninstall the water heater and theyd refund the purchase price. Im feeling pretty scammed at this point by both Rheem and Home Depot. Rheem. What a perfect name for this sad excuse for a company.

I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.

So every time I have to reignite my water heater I add something to this comment. This is the 2nd water heater in 4 years, they replace the first one because it was fully covered. The new 2nd one lasted about a year and a half and started to have problems. I have received 1 head and sensor replacement due to 9 blinks. Paid to have some one professionally repair it. Now I am still out of hot water in December. Customer service is great but you have to wait on the line for 45 minutes. Just proves how much issues they are having with their products. They are sending another head replacement and sensory in case the first one they sent was a dud. Going to waste more money to have it install. Find another brand of water heater, Rheem seems to be living on their past quality and makes crap now.

I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didnt like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund. In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? This is an honest recount of my past weekend. M. ** (Norristown, Pa). I would not recommend this product.

Model # 22VR40FN - Water heater needed repair after just a few years of service. Had to pay $235.00 for a tech to repair. Rheem makes you jump through hoops just to try to get a $45.00 parts reimbursement covered by their warranty. Almost 40 minutes on phone, repair invoice from plumber marked paid with our check number on it sent previously but I guess, not enough (insulting), image of both sides of our cancelled check needed as additional proof of repair. So that means more time wasted - special trip to bank to get cancelled check copy. Will never buy a Rheem product again. Never a problem other than age with the other water heaters Ive owned in my lifetime. Generally speaking, theyve all lasted 12-15 years without repair or failure.

Purchase brand new water heater from HOME DEPOT. Had it installed correctly. It leaked. Submitted pictures to Rheem and they said it was a manufacturers defect and gave me $250 to get it unhooked, returned and a new one installed! $250, in their own words, is the National Average for reinstallation. No plumber would even unhook it for $250 let alone install a new one. We live in Mississippi, not New York or LA. Surely, the National Average would suffice here. Ive spent $300 to get it installed, another $300 to get it returned and another $300 to get it reinstalled. And all they can give through their warranty program is $250. I needed to purchase a new natural gas water heater because my Rheem / Rudd brand started leaking. It was installed in 1992 so I figured I couldnt go wrong buying another Rheem. Bought it at the big box store, took it home and had it installed within an hour. I tried to start it up using the easy start system, but the pilot would not stay lit. They idiot proof these new water heaters so you cant actually access anything or complete any kind of small repair. All over the box, the tank, and instruction manual it says that I cant return the unit to the store. I have to call their 1800 number and get assistance. This is where things get interesting. I called the number and explained what was wrong. The support person walks me through the same stuff thats written in the instruction manual. He comes to the conclusion that the unit is defective and tells me a work order will be created and within one day someone will call me. Of course a day passes and no one calls me. So I call Rheem and they tell me that a local company has the work order. Called the local company and they tell me that they dont have the part to fix the tank and they can’t come out until Rheem sends ME the part. I call Rheem, and of course they tell me that they wont send me the part and that the local company has to first come out and diagnose the problem. At this point I am angry and explain to them that it is the middle of winter, I have two small kids and just want hot water. I ask if I can return the tank to the store and they tell that they wont authorize a return until the unit gets diagnosed. I call the local company back and they tell me that Rheem is giving me the run around and that the part is probably on back order so it could be weeks before I get the problem solved. He tells me I would be better off dealing with the big box store. I called the big box store and explained the situation and they agreed to take the unit back as defective. The big box store and the local company apologized. Rheem were jerks. I hope the company goes bankrupt and all of their support people lose their jobs and have to go without hot water.

Im helping my father get his Rheem water heater taken care of. It broke several days ago. I went to the Rheem webpage and called a local plumber listed on Rheems website. When I told the plumber I have a Rheem device, he immediately said, Oh, I hate working on those. Everyone hates working on those. Rheem has made it very hard for us to work on their devices, and their tech service line even for us pros is entirely unhelpful. That plumber declined to provide service.I then called a second plumber listed on Rheems website. They came out, evaluated the water heater, and concluded it was broken beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the device is still under warranty, so the plumber directed me to inform Rheem so that I could be sent a replacement. I called Rheem and was surprised that Rheems customer service wanted me to do a bunch of diagnostic maneuvers on the device. Isnt that what the plumber listed on their website who came out did?Regardless, I did as Rheem wanted. Finally, they conceded that it needed to be replaced and was under warranty. But then they said for me to take advantage of the warranty, I need to disconnect the water heater, take it back to the place of purchase, pick up a new water heater there, and bring it back to my place. The water heater is 75 gallons in capacity, and disconnecting and transporting a water heater isnt something the average residential consumer can be fairly expected to do. Requiring me to do all of that functionally more or less makes the warranty a non-warranty. Overall, Ive been unimpressed with Rheems service and warranty.

I have had a hot water heater from Rheem for under 2 years now and first my pilot light and igniter went out. I thought nothing of it. I continued to relight the pilot light and it worked. After about a 2 weeks or so I was down in my basement and smelt gas. I was alarmed I called Elizabeth Town Gas, and they told me to evacuate my house. I did. With that being said I found out that the tubing coupling was sliced. I called Rheem for replacement parts. First they sent out the pilot light igniter. Now that we know that the coupling is sliced we called Rheem and it has been a week for them to ship out this part. I live on the East Coast, where Rheem is located, there has been no tracking number. The replacement part is in stock, says one of the assistants from the call center. But still no replacement part. With two kids and one parent this is tough on me. Working multiple jobs and coming home to no hot water to bathe and any household chores. This has been a struggle.

I purchased a 50 gallon water heater a week ago. From the day it was installed it leaked. I have had someone from the installer, Rheem or Home Depot at my house every day. They replaced a heating element and it still leaked. Now they are trying to blame me that it was not leaking, as there was no water in the pan when the repair guy left. Really... It leaks every time about an hour after they leave. Now, they tell me it might be the pressure valve and I have to pay for the visit and fix. Funny, old heater worked fine with no leaks, just old and lots of crud in the bottom. In the last discussion, the Rheem agent told me that it might be an expansion thing that happens naturally and leaks into the pan. Now, I am beside myself and not dumb, you should never have water in the pan. Rheem/Home Depot, stand up and take responsibility for the products you sell. I pay $1400 for nothing but headaches and stress hoping the thing doesnt explode and flood my home.

Purchased a brand new Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot in 2018 and right out of the box it was DOA. It says right on the side of the heater to not return it to the place of purchase but rather to call Rheem customer service (which is the worst customer service). Three days later (without hot water) I received a replacement controller. $225 later a plumber installed it and it still would not work. Two more calls to Rheem (they called themselves Rheem because they ream you) and they ship a replacement pilot light kit. $180 for a plumber to install and after many attempts it lights and heats. Works great for a couple months and then the pilot light goes out. Many attempts later and another $120 visit by a plumber they fix it and it now works for close to a year before the pilot light goes out again. Call the plumber and $120 he resolves the issue after three more days of waiting for the part. Works this time for a year and now two and a half years after purchase it dies again. Three days without hot water and multiple calls to Rheem (ream) and they are shipping a replacement part (oh by the way if you want expedited shipping that costs $30 but it still takes two days). I finally got done. It is not worth the hassle of dealing with this company and their garbage product so I am replacing this piece of crap with an AO Smith. The sad thing is that two plumbing companies told me not to purchase Rheem and I did because they had the better warranty. Well the warranty is useless if your only option is two wait for three days for the part and then you still have to pay the plumber to install it. Note to self. Find a reputable plumber, buy the brand they recommend and install and never buy Rheem.

We purchased a Rheem water heater less than 8 months ago. The product was manufactured in February of 2013. There are only 2 adults in the household and this morning when trying to shower before work, we found there was no hot water. My husband called Rheem to receive no assistance other than Rheem would cover the part, but not the cost of a plumber to install. My husband could install, but Rheem would not even overnight the part, telling my husband it would be 2-4 days before the part would arrive. My understanding is that these water heaters are no longer made in the United States and therefore the thermal coupling will likely go out many times. After reading other reviews, I see there are others with the same problem. It is amazing that Rheem does not stand by their product and take care of all costs (the plumbers fees). We will never buy a Rheem product again and will be sure to tell others not to purchase Rheem products. Perhaps if Rheem stood by their product and took care of their clients, they wouldnt lose business.

They refused to honor warranty even though technician said needed to be replaced. I will never ever buy another one of their products. Less than 5 years on a water heater. They have no desire to help customers nor do they give a flying monkeys ** because they are big enough that one family does not mean crap to them. If I had a choice between a cheap Chinese knockoff and their product I would take the knockoff because at least then there is no semblance that they care.

Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.

Very displeased with Rheem warranty experience. My water heater burned up and it was a part of a warranty claim. I called and was sent an email and opened up original case where I sent pictures of my burnt up water heater (which I still have my pictures) which this water heater was 4 years old and a part of a recall. After I sent in the pictures I had talked to a lady in regards to getting the pictures. She mentioned that it was really bad and Rheem was going to send me an email so then I can go to Home Depot and find an equivalent water heater at no charge. But when I called in the next day no one had any clue what I was talking about and sent me an email but they started a new case. Which is really odd they would give me a new case number... they must have gave me a new case number since they didn’t want help out with a recalled product. The second case number I got the email that mentioned I am now getting a new part instead of getting a new electric water heater. I have yet to see this supposed part that was issued. There is no way anyone can go this long without a water heater... literally 1 1/2 months. I am truly disappointed with the customer service and time it is taking for this to get taken care of. I had to go out and buy a brand new water heater because I couldn’t wait that long for the part to come in and this was issued 4/28... I had to spend over $600 dollars on this new unit as well as a $250 labor charge for them to remove and replace the new unit. It is pretty sad because when I first sent the picture I was told that because it was burnt up badly that I should be getting an email in regards to an approval to go to Home Depot and find an equivalent one at no charge. But when I called since I didn’t receive the email on the approval to go to Home Depot to get an equivalent one. I called then a new case easy wrote up and they were supposed to send a part. I am very unhappy with the customer service since pretty much nothing has been done to get this fixed fast enough done. This went out 4/23... and it is now 6/15 and I still have not gotten any response back from Rheem. No one ever get Rheem product since they are not helpful at all. This needs to get straightened out because there is no help at all because I am out a lot of money to get this taken care of when Rheem should have taken care of a majority of the expense.

I bought a Rheem gas water heater and about 2 months later, it makes a loud popping noise and goes out. I call the company and they are rude with me. I have been on the phone back and forth with these people for 2 months and I still do not have hot water. The part they sent did not fix it. My plumber says its not fixable and needs to be returned, but apparently the company is going to go bankrupt if they let me return the water heater and will not give me a return code. I dont know how many things Im expected to do before they finally decide to give me the code. Im beyond frustrated. Im a single mom with cancer and its difficult for me to take my kids and I to someone elses house everyday to shower. If I had the money, I would trash the thing and buy another one (different brand) just so I wouldnt have to deal with this company anymore. I will definitely not be buying another water heater from Rheem ever and I will make sure everyone I know is aware of their lack of friendly customer service and a heart. No one should have to go this long without hot water.

Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater that I bought had the element go out twice. The first time they came and repaired it. Now the heater was only 6 months old on the first repair. After that not even a month passed and the element went out again with water also leaking everywhere. So after that on the third visit they notice that the element was not screwed in right causing it to leak again. They replace it with a newer model that was going to be better but my luck, one week into it and eco goes out. They send the part. Had to wait a week for it just for the repairman to put it on and now my breaker is jumping. The repairman then tells me thats its probably my breaker. Hint my breaker had never jumped having the first water heater. So technically the repair did an incomplete job because I still have no hot running water. Now customers services doesnt want to deal with my wife. It is up to you if you think its worth buying this product. But I will never buy from them again. Not worth dealing with the repair people and their customers services. Best of luck if you buy.

Purchased a 50 gallon water heater in 2011 with a nine-year Rheem guarantee. Awakened yesterday to a leak in the unit. Since I was 5 years into the warranty period, I did not expect much but called the customer service anyway. A polite technical representative explained that the element gasket had failed after I described the leak. Called my plumber who came immediately and determined that the unit failed. He replaced both elements. Still leaked. Called customer service again and they suggested something I did not understand related to the power supply. The plumber took the phone. Within minutes he whispered to me the technicians at Rheem were not knowledgeable. He asked one of the three he spoke to how many heaters she had installed. She told him she had observed an installation once. He spent 1.5 hours trying to get them to honor the warranty in any way.I went to Lowes and purchased a new heater which my plumber installed without charge. The final Rheem representative told me I had invalidated the warranty with the new installation. She stated we could have gone through additional technical assessment via phone had I not replaced the unit. I asked for one example and she stated Testing the junction box. I responded that she was talking nonsense and asked what other technical assessments we could have done. She repeated that it did not matter because I had replaced the unit and invalidated the warranty. Please read the other stories presented here. The pattern is the same. Rheem had no intention of honoring their warranty. Their representatives offer questionable advice (use a voltmeter, check electric supply in a leaking unit, etc.) and clearly could not respond to my plumber who challenged them.

Paid $850.00. 12/7/2013 - Thermocouple had to be replaced. Part was covered, paid for labor $175.00. 04/24/2014 - No hot water again... Plumbers came out, re-lit pilot light, paid labor $75.00. They said nothing is wrong with unit and to contact PG& E to do safety check. PG&E came out and found nothing wrong with the areas surrounding the water heater. They checked the pilot light and said it would go out again. Problem with water heater itself. Contacted plumber again and they dont know what the problem is. 05/09/14 - No hot water again. Contacted a couple of different plumbers but they refused to work on Rheem products. Contacted Rheem Technical Support and they gave me telephone numbers for two plumbers that were in my area. 1st one said they will charge a service fee of $110.00 just to come out and second one didnt return phone call. 6 years ago, I purchased a RHEEM water heater from Home Depot which lasted only 3 years with only two in the household. June 18, 2015, I purchased an American Standard from a private retailer after researching the best water heater to purchase which also lasted only 3 years. It was a terrible, stressful ordeal with both companies. Rheem and American Standard each sent parts for their 6 year warranty stretching two weeks until Im stressed to the point of purchasing a new one because none of the parts solved the problem. Apparently this is what these companies count on... the customer getting fed up to the point we choose to buy another water heater for $800 every 3 years in exchange for a hot shower!!! I am a single parent working part time for LAUSD on summer break with $766 to my name. There goes our summer savings... again. Time to try another company. Im convinced all are the same... they may last 3 years with if youre lucky. Its like pulling teeth to get them to honor the warranty, and you will not get a replacement without spending a ton of money for a licensed professional in the process, which is why Im buying another brand. The water heater I had when I moved here lasted approximately 12 years with no problems. Old school. They dont make them like they used to. See you all in 3 years.

Most reps there dont know their ** from a hole in the ground. Looked online and found some broke-** plumbers asking for donations to solve problems. There is not enough coverage on what a piece of ** product these ** put out. Just another sell out company that has junk put together by those from the land of dirty **. Had a plumber buddy suggest Rinnai. So I drained the Rheem and took it back. Put a Rinnai in and lived happily ever after. Because Im from back east and dont mind speaking out. Every time Im in Home Depot, supply yard, hardware store, etc.. Ill check the plumbing supply aisle, and have thus far talked 3 people out of buying Rheem products. Feel like getting Rheemed Id say. That doesnt hurt their profit, but if people keep it up and bad mouth them every chance they get, especially us contractors, eventually they may build a better product or at least hire a few professionals to help. Either way, Im from the old school and its too late, will never buy anything this company puts out and have steered other contractors to this site, so they can see for themselves the amount of dissatisfaction. We had this water heater installed thinking we had gotten the best on the market. However, upon installation, it would not turn on. Apparently the model XE50T12EC55UO re-positions itself to OFF every time there is power disruption. We live in an area that the energy company has the ability to shut off your hot water tank to save energy as well as have power failures. This means we HAVE to reset our water tank every time or we have no hot water. When we spoke to customer service, we were told that is how the tank works and we should have done our homework before buying the tank - No one expect that from a hot water tank!

Reaching out again to their customer support they indicated they had no contracting companies around Mobile, and that I had to hire a plumber myself for replacement and reinstallation. Meaning I would have to pay upfront and then invoice Rheem. They are not even interested in picking up their piece of junk back to investigate further the quality escape. I tried to leave a review on Home Depots website about my negative experience with Rheem water heaters. Both times my review was not accepted due to not meeting quality guidelines. Im starting to wonder how many other reviews arent showing from their site. We have had a lot of experience with Rheem. They used to make one of the best water heaters available even though they made all of the GE water heaters that had so many quality issues, the Rheem tank brand was still a good tank. Since Rheem no longer makes water heaters for GE and now has the Home Depot contract they have folded many cheap tanks into them.On two separate occasions we had purchases a Rheem short 40 gallon water heater when a standard water heater would not fit. Both times we made the long haul of getting the tank and just as we got them out of the box we found big dents on both heaters. They had to be returned because while it was only the shell that was damaged, we had concerns about the condition of the glass liner.

We had to replace a gas valve within a year - it was $340. The water heater alone was about $380. We took good care of the water heater. There is no reason it should have went out. I called the 1800 number on the water heater (under it - it says not to remove or try to return it). The 800 number says it doesn’t exist or something along that line. I went into Menards and they told me Rheem now is who to call - even though it says Richmond - I called and was put on hold for warranties for hours - about 4 hours then I was told to fill out some forms - they would send them through email. I asked to wait on the phone until the emails come though I didn’t want to wait on hold again —- I was assured they would come in 10 minutes —— I waited 4 hours. The forms never came through - I called again. Was on hold a couple of hours once again to be told by the representative that the other representative never actually sent the forms - I told him, I’m not letting you go until you get me the forms - he acted extremely annoyed with me - they came through. It took forever. NOW I have no clue what will happen next - the process of a warranty sucks - sitting on hold forever sucks.... The whole experience is a night mirror - a water heater should last longer than 1 year. So pathetic. Their products should be recalled.

My water heater was not even five years, I had a six-year warranty. Sunday morning I awake to a flooded garage. As an elderly disabled woman, I didnt know what to do. That day I had to get it replaced, which was very costly for me, I felt relieved that it was still under warranty. I called first thing Monday morning, he asked me so many questions, then made me go out in the rain to remove a metal panel from the unit and drilled me on what I saw inside. After that he then claimed it was a parts issue that could of been replaced and therefore his hands were tied and couldnt do anything for me. Who could go for days waiting for a part that I wouldnt know to do with it when I got it and go without a shower for days. They will find any reason not to cover their products, even with a warranty. Recently purchased a home (Feb 2018). The seller replaced all appliances prior to selling including a Rheem water heater. The water heater became defective in less than a year. The company refuses to honor its 12 year warranty for the product installed less than a year ago due to the fact I am not the original purchaser of the unit. What happened to companies standing behind their products? I started looking at reviews and have found very few that have been positive about this household name company. Will not be purchasing any products from Rheem in the future. Very disappointed.

I have a Rheem water heater Model # 22V30F with a broken Pilot Knob. I contacted Rheem and multiple parts suppliers. They all told me the same thing. Rheem does NOT sell the Pilot Knob individually. I need to purchase the Gas Control Valve which costs anywhere from $80.00 to $150.00. What a ripoff! Only the Federal Government would pay $80.00 or more for a knob that is worth less than $5.00. I guess Rheem wants to Ream their customers. I will never ever purchase any Rheem products again. I have seen the same knob on other brands of water heaters. I will try to get a knob from one of them.

We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

Rheem water heaters are very poor quality and you will end up with failures way the life of the heater. It is made in Mexico and the parts break continually. I bought my gas water heater 12-30-2011 and in May of 2014 it failed. They recommended a repairman and he charged more than a new heater to fix it. The parts broke again a month later, same repairman came and changed multiple parts again (lucky no charge this time). Less than a month later, the parts failed again. Repairman came out and refused to replace the parts, said it wasnt up to code and theyd fail again. Wanted $2300 to put in a new one, yea right. Contacted GE whose label and they air freighted in new parts. Got a new plumber GE recommended and the guy put them in and couldnt get it to work, put in another one on the spot and still couldnt get it to work. Contacted them and got nowhere. DO NOT BUY ANY RHEEM PRODUCT OR GE. You will get ripped off and be writing in like I am. They are made in Mexico and the quality has suffered. All the repair people know about it. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

My original water heater gave out and went to Home Depot for a new one. I came across Rheems water heaters, fairly cheap compared to others, 6yr parts warranty, 1yr labor, easy to install so it seemed like the best choice at the time. Over a year later, heater gave out, called customer service and they were not helpful. They want to replace every single component before they even consider the thought of having to replace the heater meanwhile Im left without hot water for days/weeks. After days of arguing with customer service, I finally asked to speak to a supervisor (Kelly, ID#**) 1866-279-4566 and she was even worst. I still havent resolve this issue, will probably cut my losses and buy a new, better heater, definitely NOT a Rheem heater.. Dont cut corners people, spend the money, dont go Rheems because you will deal with the pain down the line.

Wish I had not bought the Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot! Top heating element failed within 3 weeks. I am still in warranty on all parts and labor, but have had to wait 4 days to receive the part. Customer service at Rheem promised me they would order the labor. The day I called so the part could be installed as soon as it arrived. That did not happen. So now, day 4 - I finally have the part but now have to wait another day before a technician can come out and fix it. It will be 5 Days with no hot water! On a brand new heater. I did my research too late, apparently this is a common problem with Rheem Heaters. I would not recommend purchasing it, especially from Home Depot. I hope this review saves someone else from going through what Im dealing with!

I bought my home in Feb. 2016 and started remodeling right away. I am a licensed building contractor, so I wanted to do the things I had told other people to do, so I put in 2 Rheem RETE-13 Tankless electric point of use water heaters. After just 3 months the first heater went out so I had to buy another 1 and send the bad 1 back to get a refund, then in Nov. 2016 both heaters went out. This time I cant get Rheem to return my calls for 2 1/2 months. After 12 E-mails to them and 1 or 2 phone calls a week they finally tell me I cant send back the heaters because they refuse to give me my money back or to fix them. So now on Feb. 8 I went down to the Dearborn County Courthouse and filed a small claims lawsuit against Rheem.

I am a maintenance technician at a town home complex that had 30 Rheem power vent water heaters installed in them 4 years ago. Of the thirty heaters I have had to replace, 21 gas control valves, I have to call because they are under warranty yet. But our tenants have had to wait 7 days for the part to show up to fix the problem. Rheem knows they have a problem because after giving them the model and serial numbers from the I.D. plate, they send out a new valve. My issues are angry tenants because they have no hot water and I have received repair calls every day of the week, weekends and late in the evenings or very early in the mornings. I even had a replacement gas valve go bad so they have not fixed the problem from what I can see. The operator at the service center told me that I had already replaced a valve on a unit after he checked the serial number, and I told him he was right it was. Now we just built another 24 unit complex here and after begging the owners to not put these in they still put the exact units in here. All I can say is Rheem must give a big push to contractors to keep moving this brand.

I have a Rheem water heater and the upper thermostat went bad in a unit that is less than a year old with me. Called the support number on the unit due to no hot water. Troubleshooted it and they said they had to have me call an electrician to check the unit for proper power. I did and the unit has a bad upper thermostat. Rheem support argued with me about the electrician did not do the right testing but yet they are sending me a upper thermostat anyway, the support person did nothing to help the customer and I called back and it got worse from there. The other customer service person argued with me that the power was wrong and the unit was hooked up wrong but yet the unit worked fine for the first 7 month I have had it.I had this unit installed by a professional plumber company that does these all day long and I was surprised he could tell how it was hooked up from his chair at his house WOW!!! Rheem has wizards working for them now!!! This type of support was so bad and as the customer I am wrong because from their home where they sit answering the phone they can tell how I have this unit installed wrong even after having professional people look at it. WOW Rheem you have the best employees on the face of the earth!! So if you buy a Rheem hot water heater be prepared to have your family suffer on a SUNDAY of all days to run out of hot water and get their wizard support team to tell you the customer how wrong you are and how you installed their unit wrong. From reading the other reviews this seems the consensus with hot water heater by Rheem. I wish I would have read these before my purchase. I purchased and installed the hot water heater on a Friday in January 2021. Followed the instructions and waited the amount of time for the water to heat. It game hot water for about 5 minutes and then continued to blink and indicate re-heating. Called the company that it states on the side of the water heater and the person I talked to was less than accommodating. I have contacted a plumber to come and look at the water heater that is failing to heat. Do not buy this product. With every purchase there is a possible issue that consumers must deal with BUT customer service should follow.

When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but its in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!

I called the service number and they told me it was a faulty igniter. They gave me an option to have it overnighted or look for it locally. I found the part locally but they told me to check the igniter out of casing first because they usually dont fail. Long story short it was not the igniter. Through a secondary check the RHEEM tech figured out it was the entire gas control box. I now have to wait for 2-3 business days for the entire assembly. Called Rheem warranty number which by the way are the most dismissive, unfriendly and disrespectful customer service employees l have ever spoken with. My first call the employee said it must be dust or dirt. l ask why this never happened to my old less expensive water unit - no answer. Months later same pilot problem - doesnt stay lit. Second call girl tells me it cant be the unit. l must have a gas leak or something about cubic feet of air in my garage. She told me l would need to call my local Pacific Gas and Electric Company which l did. Everything was good . NO GAS LEAKS and heater was in a space off the ground, with plenty of cubic ft. Third call l get a male employee. By now my unit is going out 2-3 times a week. He was the rudest one yet. They are sending me a new pilot ignition part, still not received. However even under warranty, its up to me to find a contracted Rheem plumber. They couldnt even recommend someone to call. l ended up calling Home Depot which gave me a local number. Rheem Marathon water heaters come with a lifetime warranty. A licensed plumber installed this water heater just under a year ago. The heater began making loud noises, like a metal object was hitting another piece of metal. I called the same plumber back to check on the noise. He examined the heater thoroughly and found nothing that would have caused this problem to arise. He asked me to call Rheem Customer Service to see if they could explain and offer a solution to the noise. (The noise has no relation to water use, time of day, or any other variable I could think of). My first call was answered by Lori, who asked for my serial number, then told me to adjust the flue baffle and that would eliminate the noise. She was in a hurry to get off the call. The electric Marathon has no baffle. My second call was answered by Valerie, who also took my serial number. I specifically told her the heater was electric. She then told me to take off the two covers on the front, determine which light was on when the noise occurred, then call her back with the information. I took off the covers to find that there are no lights. She was also interested in ending the call. My third call was answered by Nick, who apologized for the other two agents of Rheem, which he could see from the record of calls I had made previously. He suggested draining the tank to see if that would eliminate the noise. I asked the plumber about this and he stated that there would be no need to drain the tank given its age. So I am left with either calling Rheem yet again for what appears to be sketchy advise or learning to live with the noise.Rheems Customer Service seems to be time on the phone driven: when you get a trouble call, give some kind of answer and get off the phone as soon as possible. Not a good system to encourage customers to buy any Rheem product in the future. Their responses to my problem seem to treat the Lifetime Warranty as a mere piece of paper used as a sales aid only. Beware of Rheem products!

Had a water heater installed approx. 3 months ago. 3 weeks ago it started tripping the circuit breaker. After inspection, we found the insulation around the lower heating coil was soaked so had the lower heating coil replaced and dried everything out. Last week it started doing it again. Upon closer inspection they found the tank was leaking higher up and was irreparable. When I spoke with Rheem customer service I requested to speak with the service reps supervisor/manager who told me in a flat tone that while Rheem would cover the part and materials they did not have to cover the cost of labor. When asked why I should have to cover the labor cost to replace a 3 month old unit that only needs replacing due to a fault that is their responsibility, I was given the same flat-toned scripted response. I assured them if Rheem was not going to be flexible enough to work with its customers when the cost should rightly fall to them then I would not waste another cent with them and ensure anyone I encountered knew why.All work done by a licensed/certified/bonded contractor that Ive done business with for many years and has an impeccable reputation. This is not my first encounter with Rheem but it is also nothing different. Im usually a forgiving person but things like repetitive bad customer service stick with me for a long time and though this incident may cost me a couple hundred dollars I will do my best to ensure it cost them as much as possible in lost customers. Rheem gas hot water heater was purchased new in December 2020. Mid August 2021 the heater stopped all functions. 70 minutes in line behind 61 other callers with technical support people. New, replacement gas valve was shipped and arrived very very promptly. New valve arrived broken. Service tech was scheduled to arrive five days after initial heater failure from 105 miles away. After considering all of this we decided to hire our own service technician, a local plumber, who promptly repaired the Rheem gas water heater. The cost to us for repair, out of pocket, was nearly the same as the original price of the water heater. Needless to say we couldnt possibly be more disappointed. Well have to consider other manufacturers for the first time in forty years. A very unfortunate turn of events.

This companys products, customer service as well as replacement parts are absolute junk! Customer service is horrible! I catch them in lies every time I call customer service. They even wanted to keep the sales tax & shipping fees after a refund. This is a very shrewd company & its customer service is awful. 0 out of 5 Stars. Absolute worst water heater Ive ever purchased. The last one I purchased was in my old home that had the water heater going for almost 20 years WITHOUT CONFLICT before I moved out. I dont remember what brand it was. Certainly not RHEEM or GE.This 2-year-old water heater is scrap. Its been popping louder than any water heater that Ive ever been around & the pilot light wont stay on even after customer service told me that it was firstly the burner (covered under warranty only a few months into purchase) then recently It started to shut itself off due to oxygen deprivation. They told me it was the NG controller so I purchased it thinking it would fix the problem. Well, it didnt & since they dont take back these parts, they simply refund your money if they were wrong but they wanted to keep the shipping as well as state sales tax. I had to talk to a supervisor just to correct this issue & they greet me with HEY, Manny - Very unprofessional. Zero stars - save your money & your time. Purchased a hot water heater from this company & two weeks after install, Pilot would not stay lit. Their customer service is garbage & they wont even offer you anything including services you have already paid for. I will never purchase anything with the Rheem name again.

All I wanted to know is to how often the recirculation pump needs to be programmed on my Rheem Platinum Tankless water heater. I tried the learn option and it didnt work good at all. Every time I have called I get to talk to someone, give all my info, just to be transferred to level 3 or another dept just to be on hold 30-40 min. Finally, when I do get to talk to someone, the different guys Ive talked to were very rude, disrespectful, and honestly didnt seem to care if I got an answer or not. Never will buy a Rheem product again. Tech support terrible.

RE: Serial number RH 0505 B17863. Manufacture Date 05/2005. Model # 82V52-2. Our home is 14 years old. We went away for Thanksgiving and came home to a flood from the above Rheem hot water heater. It had rusted through the bottom and was flooding for days. Why would you make a hot water heater that could rust??? Our home is still being repaired. ALL of the carpet, hardwood, tile, and parts of the walls have to be replaced. I can send many photos. I just cant believe that you can sleep knowing that this happens to so many people. Do NOT buy Rheem products.

Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home
Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home in August 2015. Worked for three months, then had issues with NO hot water. Getting error code. Contacted company and after several attempts and disconnects finally got someone. Was told that the venting was improper and to contact plumber to have them look at it and then send the bill for reimbursement. We did as we were told, changed venting per their specifications and still does not work correctly. Plumbing company contacted Rheem and they sent new blower assembly. This was replaced and did NOT fix the problem. Again contacted Rheem spent over 2 hours trying to get someone. Finally got someone in another department who transferred to supervisor. They have supposedly contacted Menards to reimburse us for the bad water heater, but now are refusing to reimburse us for the bill that was incurred by having a plumber come out. They are stating we did not provide the correct documentation showing a defect. Bill was sent that we received from plumbing company stating their fees.We cannot understand why no one is looking into this company regarding all these issues that this company is having with their bad product and NOT honoring their warranty. This company is causing frustrations on customers that should not be happening and not honoring anything in their warranty booklet. Nor are the phone numbers that they are listing on this warranty numbers that consumers are able to get through. When talking to the supervisor I brought this issue up and even asked him if he has ever tried calling the number listed. He said frankly no. I asked him to please do this as well as forward this on to individuals that are higher up so that they are aware of this issue. I would seriously hope that this company look into their issues with their products and take note of what consumers are dealing with.

I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I install
I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (Im a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a normal operational issue. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. Im pretty shocked - Ive never seen this ever before! EVER. And Im 54... I replaced the parts and figured that Id be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didnt pop the breaker either. Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats. At this time Im real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. Im a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... Im thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, its time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and dont want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.

I wish some told me not to buy this water heater from Rheem. Day one: the water heater will not stay on. We called and they sent a new thermostat. It happen over a weekend so that was 4 days no hot water. Here we are 4 months later and the hot water heater wont stay lit again. Weve been on hold the whole day waiting for a customer service personnel that never answered the phone. I finally hung up around 3:30 p.m. to call back and find out that they are now closed. Are so many people unhappy with their water heaters that I couldnt even talk to a person? Guess so. Ive given up. I guess Im out of the $792 I spent because Im buying a different new water heater. I dont have $800 to waste. This will hurt my family. Rheem should be ashamed.
