Our water heater died, so I Got this unit because it was almost $100 cheaper than any other unit I found. I now know why! It was very easy to install but once it was, the bottom element began to leak. I called Rheem customer service. DO NOT EVER CALL THEM. What a waste of time. They do not care that the unit leaks, refuse to get you help. Home Depot only sells the unit and will not get involved to help with any issues. It took me over 15 calls to Rheem to get them to send out a plumber to repair the unit. Do not cut corners, spend the money and buy a better unit!

I wanted to replace a 30yr old RUUD hot water heater. Found out Rheem now owns Ruud. I tried to buy a Rheem out of loyalty and NO local dealers would sell me one without installing it. I found one on Amazon and got free shipping on it. It arrived in great condition. I installed it and sure enough the anode rod cap was cracked through the threads and leaked. This was caused by the suspended weight during shipping. Rheem refused to warranty the part, said it was not a part they warrantied. Unreal, I contacted Amazon and they said they would refund the purchase price for the part. They did (I love Amazon). After 3 years my daughter turned up the tank to midway (C) on the thermostat. Within 2 days the top of the tank sunk in 2 and made it too dangerous to continue using it. After several calls and pictures sent to Rheem they agreed to warranty it (good til 2018). The only problem was NO dealer would handle warranty claim because they didnt install it. I contacted Rheem again with no response. I then filed a Better Business Bureau complaint for a full refund due to the fact I had to drive 50 miles and buy another brand tank to install so my family would have hot water. Rheem again played their delay game and wanted to start the warranty exchange process all over again. I replied I do not want a tank, I have one. I want a refund. They refused. Rheem has to have the worst customer service in the entire business world. NEVER BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT. They operate with the totally outdated dealer network business model to fix prices and make it impossible to get a warranty. Even if you have their dealer install the unit there will be much cost involved to have them warranty repair anything. Terrible management people at RHEEM.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

My water heater burned up after 14 months suppose to be 3 yrs. in home replacement. Good luck with the runaround you will get with RHEEM. Worst service ever had. I had to replace it myself after sorry plumber didnt return to replace water heater. I had to pay out of pocket for replacement. Now trying to get reimbursed.

I purchased a brand new 40 gallon Rheem water heater in November of 2019. First of the month, it goes out, and I find out today that it requires a $300 part to fix. Im just past the year warranty on parts so for a brand-new appliance I have to pay basically half the purchase price of the water heater itself just to possibly get it back in working order. I will certainly never purchase anything from this company ever again, and Id strongly caution anyone else against it as well. I have never been this livid with a company in all of my 40 years.

I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.

Bought and installed this water heater on a Friday night, by Sunday night the gas valve was not working. I tried everything, troubleshooted and called the help number. The man I spoke to was not helpful at all. He asked me questions that didn’t apply to my problem. Also implied I wasn’t smart enough to know the gas had to be turned on. I am very disappointed in a product that costs hundreds of dollars that doesn’t even last 2 days.

Purchased water heater with 6 year warranty. Paid licensed plumber to install. Less than 3 years after installation water heater starting leaking from manufacturers hole in bottom of heater (photos were provided to Rheem Warranty Division). On July 4th room was flooded and I was able to get a plumber to come that holiday, remove water heater and replace with a new one. Plumber was only able to purchase from Home Depot and bought a $480 Rheem replacement water heater. Contacted Rheem and they said, You need to return the old heater to us. This made no sense to hire someone to pack and then ship back to Rheem in order to possibly get some type of pro-rated refund.I had just paid another $500 with tax for another one of their substandard water heaters. I also researched online and they do not have a good reputation for warranty returns nor are they rated well in the country for product reliability. Do your research before you purchase and if you do purchase a Rheem forget any type of customer service or warranty honor.

I have been trying to deal with this problem for four days now. I called Rheem company several times today and was given divergent information. They gave me the number of installers, which then asked me to get a work order. I called Rheem they said they sent the order but it got refused. I called installer back again and conference called Rheem which then said that I would have to call the distributor instead. I was finally able to locate the distributor, who said they would be able to replace the water heater for a $150 service (provided I transport the old/new tanks). But they requested a voucher or authorization in order to provide me with a water heater replacement. I called Rheem 800 number yet again and the person transferred me to the warranty department which is now closed for business. Im going to be yet without hot water for another weekend. This is horrible customer service, giving me the running around!!! The water heater is less than a year old!

The Rheem 40 gallon gas water heater never worked properly, temperature could not be adjusted and stayed at 120 degrees, even in low or vacation mode. Customer service had 45 hold time, but finally sent out a local plumber, who believed it was a faulty temperature controller. I again had difficulty getting to Rheem customer service, but they ordered a new temperature controller which was installed by a local plumber. After running hot water for a considerable time with controller in vacation mode the temperature dropped but stayed above the 91 degree stated in owners manual. The next morning I ran hot water on a home thermometer and the temperature shot up to 120 degree, the maximum the thermometer could read. Now I must call to get a third plumber out to correct situation. The owner manual does not say it is a Rheem water heater and it appear to be the same water heater at Home Depot and Lowes. Also the owner manual shows the temperature controller to be a brand name Honeywell but the controller provided appears to be the same, only the Honeywell name is missing. Bottom line; I will not buy another Rheem water heater.

I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didnt heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information. I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesnt work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call. The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheems quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as thats what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

My water heater was recalled due to fire hazard. I was informed by Rheem that the control panel they normally provide (free of charge) is back-ordered with no ETA. I was told that I had to return the faulty water heater to the point of purchase for a new one. I got the exact model, just a few years newer and had to pay ~$500 more for the new one, okay fine. Here is where it gets bad. Rheems deal was to reimburse me the installation fee up to $450. I provided all of the necessary paperwork, filled out their forms as instructed and have email confirmation that my reimbursement is approved and a check would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks. Here we are over 10 weeks later, and counting, and no word from Rheem. They will not respond to my emails and I cannot reach anyone on the phone. What started as their faulty product, barely halfway into the products warranty, should have been a free fix has ended up costing me well over a $1,200! I would have been better off to cut my losses and purchase a water heater from a different manufacture, which is exactly what I will do when this one craps out before the warranty period is up. I held up my end of the deal, they will not hold up theirs.

We had a Rheem Gas water heater that was continual problem. Rheem sent us new parts and the gas valve switch continued to be an issue. We paid for a plumber to come out twice. They then keyed the unit is unrepairable and had their service tech come out to replace the heater. I had to go to the Home Depot to exchange the water heater with them because I had purchased it. I was charged an additional $160.21 for the exact water heater unit because they said they price had gone up in the last year. I called Rheem and they said that it was not their issue and that I needed to follow the procedure for Home Depot. I asked if I was supposed to pay for a new price or a straight exchange and they continued to repeat over and over that I needed to follow Home Depot procedures. I feel like I was not taken care of well, had to pay for a plumber twice to come to my house and an additional $160 because of their faulty water heater. I would not purchase this brand again.

Pilot light on 2 year old 50 gallon water heater would not stay lit so had to call plumbing company that originally installed. After some piss poor diagnostics by the plumbing company, they finally called Rheem and determined it is the gas valve assembly that is faulty. Part will take two days to arrive. Although part is covered by warranty the labor is not so I will now have to pay $300 for the diagnostic fee and installation of the new valve on a TWO YEAR OLD water heater. Seems there have been numerous reports of this with Rheem.

Rheem gas hot water heater was purchased new in December 2020. Mid August 2021 the heater stopped all functions. 70 minutes in line behind 61 other callers with technical support people. New, replacement gas valve was shipped and arrived very very promptly. New valve arrived broken. Service tech was scheduled to arrive five days after initial heater failure from 105 miles away. After considering all of this we decided to hire our own service technician, a local plumber, who promptly repaired the Rheem gas water heater. The cost to us for repair, out of pocket, was nearly the same as the original price of the water heater. Needless to say we couldnt possibly be more disappointed. Well have to consider other manufacturers for the first time in forty years. A very unfortunate turn of events.

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

Not sure how many of the water heaters made by Rheem are faulty. But mine was (just a knob in the front, so far) and let me tell you, the customer service sucks. They were rude and dismissive to my plumber when he called the night he installed it. Then neither of us could get hold of them the following day (a Wednesday). Finally on Thursday morning, I reached someone who was clearly bored and not caring. She told me a local contractor had the job so I needed to call them. A rude and dismissive person was eventually reached (after 2 hours of calling) at the local contractor number. Nobody could come out until the following day, Friday (today). When he finally showed up, he told me he was there to do a determination on what was needed. Then he had to call Rheem, and order the part. Which would not be shipped until Monday! Mind you, this puts me at a week without hot water, apparently due to the company who makes this water heater not caring!!! DO NOT BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT.

I bought a 40 gal Rheem SHORTY electric heater from Home Depot. Installed it and it tripped the breaker about 6 hours after I turned it on. I discovered that, on the lower element one wire was pushed onto the other contact during manufacture. I separated the two wires and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then I noticed the breaker tripped again, I reset it and about 3 min later I smelled electrical burning, we all know the smell. Opened the crawl space door to see the whole side of the heater engulfed in flames. Ran and got my kitchen extinguisher and dove under the house to get it put out. After literally 58 minutes waiting on hold, Rheems answer was they would refund my money on the heater.

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. Two months after purchasing three Rheem hot water heater on July 6, 2015, the water started smelling like rotten eggs in two of them. Contacted Home Depot where I purchased them. They told me the heaters were still under manufacturers warranty. I contacted Rheem numerous times via email on Rheems website and did not get a reply. Home Depot then gave me their number. Spoke with a representative who told me it was not their problem it was my water. I explained about the other heater that did not smell. She said I would have to purchase a chlorinator for each heater about $250 ea. and sent me an email with information where to buy them. I said it was the anode rods and they said that was not covered under the warranty. After that, a friend would flush the heaters with hydrogen peroxide and that would help until I went out of town. I was tired of asking him to do this so contacted Home Depot again on Jan. 8, 2017. This time they told me to call Asurion, the extended warranty I bought. That was a huge waste of time and money as they gave me the runaround too! After reporting Home Depot to the BBB, I was contacted and they contacted Rheem. Rheem called a plumber, told them to call me to call them to open a claim with them. I called Rheem and they told me the same thing they told me a year and a half ago. So Im back to square one.

Rheem purchased 10/2014. First call started Spring 2015. Pilot light kept going out. Get up to go to work - cold water. Called Rheem warranty number which by the way are the most dismissive, unfriendly and disrespectful customer service employees l have ever spoken with. Their CEO and CFO should really try using their customer service department. My first call the employee said it must be dust or dirt. l ask why this never happened to my old less expensive water unit - no answer. Months later same pilot problem - doesnt stay lit. Second call girl tells me it cant be the unit. l must have a gas leak or something about cubic feet of air in my garage. She told me l would need to call my local Pacific Gas and Electric Company which l did. Everything was good . NO GAS LEAKS and heater was in a space off the ground, with plenty of cubic ft. Third call l get a male employee. By now my unit is going out 2-3 times a week. He was the rudest one yet. They are sending me a new pilot ignition part, still not received. However even under warranty, its up to me to find a contracted Rheem plumber. They couldnt even recommend someone to call. l ended up calling Home Depot which gave me a local number. If l was a buyer for Home Depot l would stop all purchases of any Rheem water heaters from my own experience along with all these other reviews. Home Depot is too respected of a company to sell this poorly made product, with employees who could care less about your customers. I see all of these bad reviews of the Rheem water heaters and notice that many seem to be purchased at a retail level either thru their plumber or directly from Home Depot or other home improvement outlet. We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I researched which water heater to install before building, even talked to the Rheem folks. I told the plumber what I wanted. After much grousing, he installed what I wanted and I even got him to submit the registration paperwork that extended the warranty by 4 years ( one of the reasons I wanted it.).

My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!

Rheem gas water heater model 22V40F1 leaked 8 months after 6 year warranty expired. No help from installer or Rheem on replacement price. Poor quality item made in Mexico. I will NEVER buy a Rheem product again, as they sure Rheemed me! Paid $800 for what I thought was a quality product installed. My original lasted almost 25 years made by American Water Heater Co.

Purchased a Marathon 85 gallon Water Heater from Home Depot and had to wait three weeks for it to be shipped from the east coast of Georgia to Columbus Georgia. After receiving the tank, and getting it installed, the “Vacuum Relief Valve” malfunctioned, saturating my drywall (which I had to replace). Called Rheem and was initially told it would be 5 to 7 days for replacement parts. Having explained my situation, they overnighted the parts. 30 minutes after receiving the NEW PARTS I installed the new Vacuum Relief Valve, and wouldn’t you know it, it Malfunctioned once again all over my drywall. I called Rheem and was informed that I would have to pay out of pocket for an authorized rheem service technician to come out and fix the NEW water heater. So, I remove the hot water tank and returned it back to Home Depot. If you are in the Columbus Georgia area and in need of a large water heater, do not buy a Rheem 85 gallon Marathon hot water heater that is discounted in price. It will cost you more than you know. The Rheem Marathon 85 gallon Water Heater is a piece of Plastic JUNK.

We confidentially purchased a Rheem. Got water heater a few years ago. Well it failed. I called Rheem to enact the warranty and customer service told me they were sending an email with directions to take photos. After taking said photos I was to call them back 15 minutes after sending the email. After much confusion, I did (I had no idea what a heat exchanger was.. Thank goodness for it Youtube). On the return call I was informed that it was under full warranty and to remove the unit and return it to the original place of purchase. If the new unit costs more I am responsible for the difference but ... I would get a brand new warranty. If it was the same price the old warranty would still be in effect. So I hang up and call the plumbing supply store where we purchased the unit. I was told that Not only do I have to pay the entire cost of the unit up front (I will be allegedly be reimbursed for the original purchase price after Rheem reimburses them) but I have to pay a “service fee” of $125! I also have to pay a plumber to come and uninstall the defective unit then pay again to have him install the new unit! How is this a full warranty? Never again. It’s costing me a fortune to replace a defective unit! These expenses should be on Rheem not me.

I bought a Rheem 50 gal. residential gas hot water heater. Installed it myself, because its not difficult. Lit the pilot and gave it ample time to heat. Got a shower that evening and the water temp. alternated from warm to cool and continued to cycle that way throughout the entire shower. Couldnt get any help from Home Depot. Most reps there dont know their ** from a hole in the ground. Looked online and found some broke-** plumbers asking for donations to solve problems. What I did is what most should do, but dont because they dont have the time or cash. This is precisely how a company like this survives. There is not enough coverage on what a piece of ** product these ** put out. Just another sell out company that has junk put together by those from the land of dirty **. Had a plumber buddy suggest Rinnai. So I drained the Rheem and took it back. Put a Rinnai in and lived happily ever after. Because Im from back east and dont mind speaking out. Every time Im in Home Depot, supply yard, hardware store, etc.. Ill check the plumbing supply aisle, and have thus far talked 3 people out of buying Rheem products. Feel like getting Rheemed Id say. That doesnt hurt their profit, but if people keep it up and bad mouth them every chance they get, especially us contractors, eventually they may build a better product or at least hire a few professionals to help. Either way, Im from the old school and its too late, will never buy anything this company puts out and have steered other contractors to this site, so they can see for themselves the amount of dissatisfaction. Thank you Consumer Affairs and all those who took the time to help talk me out of buying Rheem.

Reported problem to Rheem who requested service invoice, electricians license number, phone number, serial number, model number, and proof of service payment. Twice I sent Rheem requested information. Twice Rheem requested the same information. To date, Rheem has not reimbursed me for service and has been unwilling to process claim. So every time I have to reignite my water heater I add something to this comment. This is the 2nd water heater in 4 years, they replace the first one because it was fully covered. The new 2nd one lasted about a year and a half and started to have problems. I have received 1 head and sensor replacement due to 9 blinks. Paid to have some one professionally repair it. Now I am still out of hot water in December. Customer service is great but you have to wait on the line for 45 minutes. Just proves how much issues they are having with their products. They are sending another head replacement and sensory in case the first one they sent was a dud. Going to waste more money to have it install. Find another brand of water heater, Rheem seems to be living on their past quality and makes crap now.

Gas Valve failed again January 2019 -- Rheem sent a replacement, but I never installed it because the existing Gas Valve appeared to be OK after re-lighting pilot. In May 2019, no hot water... went into garage to investigate and found water around base of heater. Pulled off front cover and noted that bottom of insulation was saturated with water -- tank is leaking. Tank failed in 4 years! 9 year tank warranty. Called Rheem for return authorization and returned heater to Home Depot (got about 85% credit -- prorated). I was given store credit only, so I had to buy the same piece of crap Rheem water heater since thats all Home Depot sells. Well have to see how long this one lasts.

Consumer Affairs is obviously an unreliable source rating this product at over four stars with nothing but one star reviews as far as the eye can see. I’ve been doing plumbing for 15 years. I will never install one of these pieces of junk ever again. Don’t waste your money. This is the fifth heater I’ve been stored and had trouble with within two years from Rheem. Their product is junk. They made water heaters in the 1980s-90s that not only operate better than the 2021 models but can outlive their life by 10 years plus. Don’t be scammed by Rheem. They make these things to break so they can make more money off of you. Also don’t be scammed by this unreliable source that cost their self consumer affairs who obviously does not care about the consumer. Read the reviews consumer reports. Where the ** do you get your information. Apparently whoever works at this consumer affairs place can’t count 4.8 stars and nothing but one star reviews you can read them for days. I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem Performance Hot water heater from Home Depot a few years ago. Right before Christmas the digital control panel went out. I searched the internet and found out there is a recall on them. I called Rheem customer service and had to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to talk to a representative. The representative was helpful and sent me the necessary paperwork to fill out. They authorized the repair to be up to $250.00. I had to call Mac Plumbing and the part was delivered and installed on Christmas Eve. So appreciative to get hot water back.I sent all necessary papers to Rheem for the reimbursement right away along with the proof of payment. Rheem never confirmed they received the necessary information. I called Rheem customer service to verify they received the necessary paperwork to process the form. I spent at least 45 minutes on hold. I talk to the representative and he verified they have the necessary paperwork. Then I got disconnected. It is Feb 18th and I have not received the reimbursement of $249.00 they authorized to get the recall repairs complete. I am totally disappointed with Rheems customer service. It is unsatisfactory!

I purchased a brand new Rheem natural gas tank water heater in October of 2020 and last week we lost hot water. I called Rheem customer service on Thursday and they said we need a new gas valve, itll be delivered in two business days. We go all weekend with no hot water, showering at work and the gym. Monday rolls around and still no part. I call again yesterday and there is no order placed under my name!!! After we get the order squared away I ask if someone is going to come and install this new part and they told me a service contract we had expired in Sept. 2021. I told them since they screwed us and didnt place our order the first time they should come install this for us anyways and they said THEY CANT. Its now the next day, I havent gotten an email that the part has shipped and theres no tracking number. I call once again and they said yup, it hasnt shipped yet and left me hanging. WE ARE GOING ON ONE WEEK OF NO HOT WATER. Im doing you a favor, do not buy Rheem! Theyre so useless and unhelpful and dont care.

They sent me an e-mail that I was able to pay up to $450 for product and installation. Needless to say, the contractors that I spoke to, laughed at that amount. Plus, I could not get any of their contractors out for at least another 2-5 days. I called back and spoke with a supervisor who said I could take it back to store and get replacement. I told her I did not have receipt but I did purchase date and product registration. She said that would not be a problem because they have the ability to look that up in their system. The store only prorated the product. I called again and spoke to another supervisor, Mike #**. I told him that the price difference it ended up costing me was $65.42. He said they would not be able to reimburse me because I didnt have original receipt. I told him that the supervisor I talked to previously said it would not cost me anything. Bought it in April of 2017. Called up and registered the warranty the day it was installed, gave all information and documentation I was asked for. Died on Nov 1 2018, called the number on the water heater, was told the labor warranty was expired but parts were in warranty so theyd send the part, got the part on Tuesday, got it installed and still got 7 flashing red lights, so called back on Wednesday, the second tech I talked to on Wednesday said two failures of the same part were considered a complete failure. Id have to bring the water heater back to point of purchase and theyd replace it. As we talked she offhandedly mentions that it had a 9 yr part warranty and a 2 yr labor warranty (since Id been told it was out of warranty I was under impression that the labor was 1 yr) and that the labour had expired in August. I told her I had purchased it in April, she had me email the receipt and serial number to another email. That night I got an email that my warranty was updated and if I had any problems to call 800-432-8373, so first thing Thursday morning I called and they said theyd schedule a service technician to come replace it and Id be contacted within one business day with the name of the service tech and the appointment time. A short time later I got an email stating Thank you for contacting Rheem. A request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive a call within 1 business day, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Sat 8AM-8PM ET for further assistance. So, I dont hear anything further on Thursday, and I dont hear anything on Friday. So Friday night I tried to call but it was after 8 pm et, so I called again Saturday morning. I explained my situation and asked why I hadnt been contacted with any update within one business day like I was promised. The person I talked to (never Identified herself, but her manager said her name was Leah) told me that the techs dont dispatch service people, they created a ticket on Thursday which went to dispatch who created a rework ticket on Friday and its Saturday and Im talking to the person whose job it is to call the service people and schedule them and if Id let her do her job shed call and see if someone was available. She put me on hold and came back and said, Nobody is answering so theyre probably closed for the weekend. Ill call them on Monday and see if theyll come out, or I can give you a warranty claim number and you can do it yourself. Kind of ** since if your people hadnt been slow walking it and had contacted me on Friday LIKE PROMISED I could have called on Friday and had someone scheduled to work on Saturday or Sunday, but since its already Saturday I cant contact anyone until Monday. She then told me if theres nothing else shes hanging up. I had to stop her and ask to talk to a manager, who told me if I didnt want to wait until Monday for someone to be called she could give me a warranty claim number so I could call someone myself. She also said she had to defend Leahs behavior because she such a good and loyal employee and Leah was the only person who could possibly handle my claim. She also refused to admit that your company failed in any way in upholding your promise to contact me within one business day, telling me she understood why I would feel that way (without specifying what way I was feeling). Very well trained to be noncommittal. Cant think of another company thats given me such horrible customer service in the last decade.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing
This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing Company regarding a claim I made for a leaking hot water tank that has a 12 year warranty with full coverage (parts and labor) for the first three years. From the day I reported a problem with this Rheem 12 year Gas Hot Water Heater I was treated disrespectfully and it was abundantly clear from the beginning that it was going to be difficult to get this company to back the 12 year warranty on this hot water heater. When I reported the problem I was having with this water heater it was only one and a half years old and still eligible for full no cost labor and parts coverage for the first three years as stated in the warranty verbiage. Rheem customer claim reps gave me a hard time about sending a plumber out to look at the tank and repair it. After asking to speak to a supervisor I was finally told she would send out a plumber and I would be notified by someone who would set up an appointment. I then get a call and was told they cant find any authorized Rheem plumbers in my area and asked if I would contact a plumber on my own and have the plumber fix the leaking tank if possible and send their bill to Rheem for reimbursement. I tried to find a plumber but none would come when I told them they had to submit their bill to Rheem for payment. I ended up fixing the tank myself with some help from a friend who is a plumber apprentice.I turned in a claim for $18.06 and this chincy company denied payment, unbelievable!!!! Imagine what the claim would have been if a plumber would have fixed the tank and for sure I would have been stuck with that bill!!! I notified Home Depot (where I purchased the water heater} Customer Service and they were appalled when I told them this story. I only notified them because I wanted Rheem to be reported for their extremely poor customer service and not fulfilling their warranty agreements. Home Depot is one of Rheems largest dealers of their products and did not agree with Rheems denial of this claim. They told me they were going to file a grievance against Rheem for the way this claim was handled and to show their appreciation of my loyal patronage sent me a $25 Gift Card. I will never buy a Rheem product again and will tell all every chance I get of this horrible experience. If you need a new hot water heater be very leery about buying a Rheem.Rick **

Update to my post earlier today. The third Rheem hot water heater 50 gal, tall version was bought this evening. I installed it because we need baths and I cannot wait for Rheem. I bought this Rheem from Penco instead of Home Depot. Now I do love Home Depot and their customer services is splendid. However , I have learned that Rheem makes different models of the same types for different distributors. Looks like to me Pencos unit cost $476 instead of HD price of $418. Guess what happened? Pencos Rheem was installed and did not leak at all, no leaks, we are finally taking baths. So HD has a cheaper version and its also less quality. Why cheaper if it leaks? Give me Penco. I love ya HD, but I had to stop smelling. Lol.

We purchased our first Rheem water heater on 11/21/2018. We have had nothing but problems ever since. From tools being taken from our home, to now the third water heater going bad plus on top of that being told that it would be two weeks till someone would be here to replace it! I have stage 4 Cancer that has spread to my bones making it long and difficult to get a shower among other things, can’t/ shouldn’t be without hot water!

On 8-12-16 my Rheem hot water heater which is (2) yrs old went to vacation mode and I only had warm water. Plumber spoke with Rheem and they recommend replacement of gas valve. Rheem sent part and it was replaced 5 days later. After a few days it went back to vacation mode. Plumber called Rheem and was told they would send another gas valve for replacement. After 2nd replacement of valve, a few days later it went back to vacation mode. Plumber called Rheem and they recommend replacement of vapor sensor. Vapor sensor was installed and again went to vacation mode. Plumber called Rheem and they recommend replacement of wire harness. After this replacement I had NO warm water. Plumber replaced complete unit on 9-24-16. Rheem covered the water heater but would not cover labor. Because of all their replacement recommendations my labor charges came to 1767.00. After reading the other reviews, why isnt this heater recalled?

We bought a water heater in 2009. 2014 - realized it was leaking all over the garage. Called the big box store from which we purchased and was told we would only get $140.00 credit towards a new water heater. To my understanding GE and Rheem are no longer affiliated so the warranty becomes pro-rated. Therefore the 12 year warranty we thought we were getting is no longer good. I called the 800 number on the water heater and talked to 3 different people. 2 were very rude. The last lady I spoke to gave me an address to write a letter and complain. If there is a class action lawsuit in the works, I would love to be part of it. Rheem owes me $490.00.

I bought a gas water heater at Home Depot by Rheem about 1 1/2 year ago. It failed, Rheem labels the water heater not to take the water heater back to Home Depot but, to troubleshoot the problem thru the phone with them, after they “think” they know what the problem is, they mail you parts for you as a customer, replace them (like the customer is a plumber or a technician). It didnt work the first time, troubleshooting thru the phone again, now they thought they knew what the problem is, send another part, replace it. It worked for 2 month, and failed again. Call a third time, troubleshoot, then they authorized to take the water heater back to Home Depot for a partial credit... after everything you have to go thru, not having hot water for 2 weeks, paying a plumber for all the labor, taking the water heater back to Home Depot. It’s a very disappointing way of dealing with this kind of help from this company.

Hi there, I am a home builder by the name of Ivaan Interiors in Winnipeg, Canada and I bought a 60-gallon HWT from Home Depot last month Dec 2021 for my new house to sell. The hot water tank was installed on-site by a licensed plumber and electrician. The electrician found that its not heating and consuming double Amperes as compared to it and tripping the circuit breaker. The electrician double-checked all the wiring but it didnt work and mentioned that there is some problem inside. We called customer service and they said, We can send parts, and we have to get it repaired at our end. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can we repair and why should we spend another hundred bucks to get it repaired. We didnt buy this brand new product to take the pain to repair. The buyer is taking possession next month. I want it to be repaired or replaced asap. I would appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and solved immediately. Manish

Im helping my father get his Rheem water heater taken care of. It broke several days ago. I went to the Rheem webpage and called a local plumber listed on Rheems website. When I told the plumber I have a Rheem device, he immediately said, Oh, I hate working on those. Everyone hates working on those. Rheem has made it very hard for us to work on their devices, and their tech service line even for us pros is entirely unhelpful. That plumber declined to provide service.I then called a second plumber listed on Rheems website. They came out, evaluated the water heater, and concluded it was broken beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the device is still under warranty, so the plumber directed me to inform Rheem so that I could be sent a replacement. I called Rheem and was surprised that Rheems customer service wanted me to do a bunch of diagnostic maneuvers on the device. Isnt that what the plumber listed on their website who came out did?Regardless, I did as Rheem wanted. Finally, they conceded that it needed to be replaced and was under warranty. But then they said for me to take advantage of the warranty, I need to disconnect the water heater, take it back to the place of purchase, pick up a new water heater there, and bring it back to my place. The water heater is 75 gallons in capacity, and disconnecting and transporting a water heater isnt something the average residential consumer can be fairly expected to do. Requiring me to do all of that functionally more or less makes the warranty a non-warranty. Overall, Ive been unimpressed with Rheems service and warranty.

I replaced my old hot water tank with a Rheem energy efficient model Guardian System RHGPRO50-40F. Same size as my former tank. When I fill my bath tub the hot water turns lukewarm after a few minutes. The licensed installer told me that this is the way that all new energy efficient hot water tanks work and that the next person to run hot water for a bath or shower would not experience this. Seriously? His suggestion was to run some hot water about 20 minutes before I filled the bath tub and when filling the bath to only turn the hot water faucet on the bath 1/2 way. I tried that and the temperature of the water continued to decrease. So I have to stand by the tub as it fills constantly checking the water temperature and turning down the cold water to maintain the water temperature. I have turned up the temperature on the hot water heater to almost max. That had not solved the issue. I have tried to get this addressed or get an answer from someone and even asked if perhaps I needed a larger tank with no luck. If it is indeed working as designed how can they call this an energy efficient hot water heater when I have to waste water and keep the water at a much higher temperature than I did with the one that was not energy efficient and it was able to fill my bath tub.

We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

On Oct. 3, 2011, I ordered a part for my 4 year old water heater. It was because my repairman said that Rheem will not send them to repairmen so they can repair it, and that I can only get one part replaced. If it goes bad again, I have to replace the water heater. Its not good. So, we contacted Rheem and ordered the part at approximately 2:00 pm. They said it would be shipped over night. It wasnt. I called them the next day. They said it was not going to get here until the next day. I thought that by buying a name brand water heater, it would be reliable. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Whatever happened to customer service? The people I talked to were just a call center, so they really didnt care.

Paid $850.00. 12/7/2013 - Thermocouple had to be replaced. Part was covered, paid for labor $175.00. 04/24/2014 - No hot water again... Plumbers came out, re-lit pilot light, paid labor $75.00. They said nothing is wrong with unit and to contact PG& E to do safety check. PG&E came out and found nothing wrong with the areas surrounding the water heater. They checked the pilot light and said it would go out again. Problem with water heater itself. Contacted plumber again and they dont know what the problem is. 05/09/14 - No hot water again. Contacted a couple of different plumbers but they refused to work on Rheem products. Contacted Rheem Technical Support and they gave me telephone numbers for two plumbers that were in my area. 1st one said they will charge a service fee of $110.00 just to come out and second one didnt return phone call. Will never ever buy a Rheem product again.

I bought a Rheem water heater in June. Well 5 months later, it started showing errors on the gas control. Also I would sometimes have hot water and other times I would not. Had their service techs come and try and fix. Called Rheem Numerous times and they said it was the gas control and sent me a new one. The tech comes over and installs the new gas control and guess what still doesnt work and I have no hot water. I call Rheem and they say we will send you another gas control. I say you just sent me a brand new one. He says Yes I know. I say I have a family with no hot water for two weeks now and I want you to get me a new water heater under the warranty as its only 5 months old. Rheem says no we wont do that. So I had to buy another water heater and not Rheem of course because I had no hot water heater that would work and all three techs said they couldnt fix it and Rheem wouldnt replace it. Rheem doesnt stand by their warranty. I called Rheem again and told them Im going to have to take them to small claims court and they said ok, good luck to you. This company is horrible and doesnt stand by their work or warranty. I asked them to reimburse me for the water heater and they said no.

I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (Im a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a normal operational issue. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. Im pretty shocked - Ive never seen this ever before! EVER. And Im 54... I replaced the parts and figured that Id be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didnt pop the breaker either. Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats. At this time Im real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. Im a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... Im thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, its time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and dont want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.

Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.

Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Lets see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others dont give me much hope in this regard.

Two weeks later Im back with no hot water. Due to new water heater having issue with gas chamber AGAIN. I had City Public Service come to check my gas lines/flow. They places a red tag on the heater and stated it was the CONTROL VALVE. Once again customer service said it could not be the control value. Due to it being new. They required a gas pressure count. We had our Rheem water heater installed less than a month ago and we recently noticed an awful smell in our hot water. We are on a well and do not chlorinate our water. We do have an iron reduction filter and water softener and have never experienced a bad odor to our hot water. We had to call the plumber out to look at the water heater because of the odor being so bad and were told that we needed to replace the anode rod to eliminate the smell. The anode rod that came in the water heater was not intended for well water. We tried contacting Rheem to see if this could be processed through our warranty and we were told it was not a defect in the product. It may not be a defect, but this product was not advertised correctly. Nowhere does this product say For Chlorinated Water. I am very disappointed in this product and this manufacturer for not advertising their product in a way that allows a consumer on a well to make the best decision for their home. We had our previous water heater for over 15 years with no odor in our water. Customer Service told us we can replace the anode rod and will probably have to do it quite often, or we can completely remove it and the water heater will not last as long. He also said we could add a chlorination system to our water, but all the options he listed are at our cost. I will never purchase a Rheem water heater or any other product with their name on it ever again.

It appears to be a computer/software problem, as our plumber is able to reboot it, but we have not been able to do so following the manual. Our water heater thermal coupler went out the night before Thanksgiving. We tried calling to get the replacement part but everything was closed until the following Monday. We called the tech support and the customer service said that he has been doing his job for so many years and it was not the thermal coupler and said it was the gas control unit. We took his word since he said he was the expert. We paid to have it expedited for next day. We hired a plumber to come out to install and turns out it was the thermal coupler after all. I paid for the plumber for the service call. I called Rheem and after over an hour waiting was finally able to talk to the manager and he agreed to refund the expedited delivery charge. Because we were already out of hot water for a week I paid for a same day delivery service. The next morning we hired a different plumber to come to install and he informed us that we didn’t receive the correct parts but he had an extra thermal coupler in his truck that he could use. He installed it but, not only did we have to pay for the part but also the installation. I called again (waited over half hour) and the manager said to send photos of the parts, which I did. He sent an email for me to call to discuss.Again, waited on the line only to be put through to someone else, went through the whole story again only for them to tell me I had to speak to another manager. Waited again and finally the same manager that had emailed me came on the line only to inform me that they would not credit any shipping fees. I offered to compromise and pay for the same day service but he refused, was condescending and not willing to help at all. I highly recommend you stay away from any RHEEM water heater products. Both plumbers that came said that they are the worst to deal with.

When this water heater started not working properly, after 5 years, with a 12 year warranty, Rheem made it VERY DIFFICULT and time consuming to get through their phone systems (hold times of 30+ minutes and no answer) to set up appointments, months have gone by. Rheem plumbers have been out twice, Rheem has not fixed the water heater, and now say we need to disconnect and return to Home Depot to get a credit. This would cost hundreds to have a plumber come do this, and in addition HD says they dont have this model number so we can not return it there. No use to have a 12 year warranty that doesnt actually help at all. What a rip off, Dont buy Rheem!

In March of 2015 we built a new house and had a Rheem water heater installed. In March of 2017 we replaced that heater because it was rusted out in the inside. Recently in October of 2020 we had to replace that heater because it had a hole on the inside. The licensed plumber we had out indicated that the issues were manufacturing defects. The heaters have a warranty of 5 years but the parts and labor only 1 year. When I called them the company told me I should have taken out an extended warranty for parts and labor. Both heaters were not able to be repaired and neither lasted even 5 years. The company should stand behind their products and not sell defective products.

I bought my home in Feb. 2016 and started remodeling right away. I am a licensed building contractor, so I wanted to do the things I had told other people to do, so I put in 2 Rheem RETE-13 Tankless electric point of use water heaters. After just 3 months the first heater went out so I had to buy another 1 and send the bad 1 back to get a refund, then in Nov. 2016 both heaters went out. This time I cant get Rheem to return my calls for 2 1/2 months. After 12 E-mails to them and 1 or 2 phone calls a week they finally tell me I cant send back the heaters because they refuse to give me my money back or to fix them. So now on Feb. 8 I went down to the Dearborn County Courthouse and filed a small claims lawsuit against Rheem.

I bought my water less than a year ago and a defective part made the heater stop working. I called the number on the warranty and got a complete run around for 2 hours kept transferring from one to other. They told me final that in two days they would send some out. The company they said they called didnt get the request for three days and said they couldnt come out for a week anyway. Rheem told me to call my own plumber to fix problem and they would reimburse me. I did what they asked, sent all documents to them, they replied. It will take 6 to 8 weeks for a refund. Needless to say as of today June 11, 2021 I have not received my refund after countless emails. What do I do, please advise. This started in March 2021. Thank you.

Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater that I bought had the element go out twice. The first time they came and repaired it. Now the heater was only 6 months old on the first repair. After that not even a month passed and the element went out again with water also leaking everywhere. So after that on the third visit they notice that the element was not screwed in right causing it to leak again. They replace it with a newer model that was going to be better but my luck, one week into it and eco goes out. They send the part. Had to wait a week for it just for the repairman to put it on and now my breaker is jumping. The repairman then tells me thats its probably my breaker. Hint my breaker had never jumped having the first water heater. So technically the repair did an incomplete job because I still have no hot running water. Now customers services doesnt want to deal with my wife. It is up to you if you think its worth buying this product. But I will never buy from them again. Not worth dealing with the repair people and their customers services. Best of luck if you buy.

Brand new gas water heater. The Pilot light would not light. Called Rheem, who had me test it and concluded it was a bad gas valve. Rheem support said they would send a plumber, who did call nor show up. I called Rheem again and said I was not happy and I might return it to store. The Rheem rep said they would not authorize the return. That sounded fishy, since the stores policy doesnt require Rheems authorization. This company seems to be riding on its formerly good 20th-century name now, making junk and telling untruths to customers to try to keep them from returning it to the store.

My 40 gallon gas Rheem water heater was only 3 yrs old and the bottom of the tank gave out filling up the catch pan and dumping water all over the ground. Attempted calling Rheem for help, what an awful experience that turned out to be. Sure wish I had done some homework up front before purchasing. Home Depot, shame on you for selling/pushing this junk for sale. Folks, Do Not purchase a Rheem. The product is junk and the customer service is non-existent.
