I have purchased Rheem Tankless Water Heater. Their warranty states 5 years. My heater broke recently and had to be replaced. Rheem renewed their water heater since my purchase and new unit had to be installed. Even though it was under warranty I was charged $100 extra to get the new unit. Their warranty is not really good if they charge you for the new unit especially when there is an issue with their own equipment. On top of that I had to pay labor again which was not covered under the warranty and I understood. I contacted Rheem directly, however, they pointed me to their distributors and it is not up to Rheem while the distributor clearly pointed to Rheem.

My water heater failed and after contacting Rheem tech support they agreed that the unit needed needed to be replaced. No one in my region [including Rheem] had any replacements so Rheem told me to purchase one from Home Depot, which I did. After months of emails, submitting numerous copies of documents and hours of phone calls I received a check for 1/2 of the replacement unit value. Rheem informed me that the unit wasnt worth what I paid for it. My cost would have been the same from Rheem, Home Depot or a Rheem authorized dealer. Rheems lifetime warranty is a lie. Its a great water heater, but you would be better served buying a decent quality unit from another manufacturer. If I had known that they werent going to honor the warranty I wouldve bought a different brand.

I wish some told me not to buy this water heater from Rheem. Day one: the water heater will not stay on. We called and they sent a new thermostat. It happen over a weekend so that was 4 days no hot water. Here we are 4 months later and the hot water heater wont stay lit again. Weve been on hold the whole day waiting for a customer service personnel that never answered the phone. I finally hung up around 3:30 p.m. to call back and find out that they are now closed. Are so many people unhappy with their water heaters that I couldnt even talk to a person? Guess so. Ive given up. I guess Im out of the $792 I spent because Im buying a different new water heater. I dont have $800 to waste. This will hurt my family. Rheem should be ashamed.

Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing
Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing from Home Depot in Modesto, Ca. First problem was at 1 & 1/2 years after purchase. Upon inspection of PG&E I was told Thermocouple had to be replaced and most likely it was a faulty part and or product (Not knowing about the hundreds of complaints similar of mine). The part was replaced at my expense. One year later the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th problems occurred (3 times in 5 months). Upon inspecting a LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND in my hall area, we discover the pilot light is no longer lit on the GAS WATER HEATER. Initially there are problems in re-lighting it but fortunately it has re-lit.It then came to mind to begin searching for this products recall. Not as easy of a task and I continue my search for a recall, but in the process I have found this water heater is no longer sold by Home Depot; every review was bad with most stating the thermocouple having to be replaced within the first two years, and this product has been discontinued. The GE Appliance website states this model is no longer being manufactured. And it is no wonder. What I am curious about is what it takes for a product to be recalled because from what I have researched it is the opinion of hundreds that this water heater is junk, a hassle to deal with the continuous problems, very costly. I pray not, although I fear the explosive sound could be a danger or deadly. If I could I would most definitely purchase another water heater but I am currently disabled, living on a limited income that I cannot even make it on each month. Therefore I pray for our safety and that the water heater does not have any further problems. As I have written this complaint, I have to GE as well. And Ill continue to seek a recall for this product. MY ADVISE, DO NOT BUY A GE WATER HEATER MANUFACTURED BY RHEEM!

I bought my Rheem water heater 2 years ago. Recently, the pilot light has been going out. As a single gal, who is not very handy, I thought I was making a great purchase given the product came with a 6 year warranty. Much to my dismay, I found out that the warranty is only a parts warranty! Now I have to wait a few days to receive the parts in the mail and figure out how to install them myself... And, once again, be without the ability to take a hot shower in the meantime! I had my previous water heater for nearly 20 years, without a problem and this one defaults after just 2!

Replaced a 15+yr water heater Oct 2013 with a Rheem. Feb 2014 pilot went out and wouldnt light. Service call to installer and they did manage to re-light. March 2016 again pilot went out. Would light but not stay lit. This time thermocouple/pilot unit out $400.00. NO reimbursement from Rheem. Yesterday surprise surprise pilot light out and wont stay lit! No hot water over Christmas weekend! Its unbelievable to me this company is still in business! And I am actually really upset with my plumber whom I have used for over 12 years for installing this piece of garbage! I think the professional out there should be steering their customers; who count on THEIR expertise, away from this product.

I recently purchased a Rheem 40 gallon electric water heater from Home Depot. The day it was installed I waited about 8 hours before trying to use the hot water which was a lot longer than the 2-3 hours recommended by my contractor. Much to my dismay, there was still no hot water! After a second visit from my contractor it was determined the bottom heating element was defective. A call was placed to the 1-800 number on the water heater and here I sit waiting and wondering if a technician will come out to replace the part anytime soon. Very disappointing to have this happen on a brand new water heater.

Rheem hot water heaters are junk, dont waste your money! I purchase a new Rheem hot water heater less than five (5) months ago from Home Depot and it has already gone bad. We followed the proper channels and called Rheem customer service department and they figured out what they believed went bad on the unit. The customer service representative promised to overnight the part and told us how to replace the part. We have now been six days without hot water as the rep forgot to overnight the part and it now the weekend and they cannot send it until Monday for Tuesday delivery. We called Home Depot for help at this point and their policy is after 90 days we own it and they cannot help us with it unless we want to pay them an additional $100.00 then they would try to help. Dont waste your money and time on this product and think twice about purchase a major buy at Home Depot! Going to give up and just throw away the Rheem and purchase a different brand! Junk, junk, junk!!!

We have a five year old tankless water heater. The gas control valve went out. We were told this rarely happens. There is only a five year warranty on parts and we missed the deadline by four months. Rheem customer service rep was very rude. Our plumber recommended Rheem because they had a reputation for good products and parts. I wished I would have researched instead of taking his word for it. I would never buy a Rheem product again.

I purchased a brand new 40 gallon Rheem water heater in November of 2019. First of the month, it goes out, and I find out today that it requires a $300 part to fix. Im just past the year warranty on parts so for a brand-new appliance I have to pay basically half the purchase price of the water heater itself just to possibly get it back in working order. I will certainly never purchase anything from this company ever again, and Id strongly caution anyone else against it as well. I have never been this livid with a company in all of my 40 years.

I filed a warranty claim with the company via their web form with all the required information. Rheem never responded one way or the other, on a water heater that failed after just two years on a 6 year warranty. During installation we discovered that half of the gas heating unit was missing. Rheem graciously sent us a new heating unit, though, as it turned out, even that was defective, but was able to repair with locally sourced parts. Between my father and I we have used Rheem water heaters in this house for over 60 years, but obviously, there must be new management, who neither cares about quality control or fairness in business practices. Two months after installing a water heater we got awful sulfur taste and smell. We tried the recommended treatment using hydrogen peroxide to kill the bacteria. This worked for 3 months and then it came back, so we treated the condition again with peroxide. This worked for another 6 months. By now Covid virus was in effect and we could not buy the peroxide anywhere. We noticed water on the floor and I also noticed the electrical breaker had popped. Taking the top cover off, I found the insulation covering the top element and thermostat burned and the wires black and corroded. I spoke to Rheem 3 times, each time a different person, but got nowhere. All they offered was a new element even though the whole insulation within the unit was totally wet. Based on the corroded condition of the wires, the thermostat and the element, we refused their miserly offer. We finally contacted Home Depot and spoke to someone knowledgeable, Les, the plumbing manager, and he agreed to call Rheem. After getting nowhere with this company, he spoke to his manager and suggested replacing the heater at their cost which they did. We hope this one is better but we dont expect to have the same life as our previous heater that lasted 28 years.

We purchased 56 Rheem water heaters for our senior housing community in Eudora Kansas. 12 of the tanks have had failures within the first 4 years of service. None of the plumbing contractors want to work on the Rheem water heaters because they were purchased from Home Depot and are told that parts are not easily available. We are slowly switching out the tanks to another brand that was recommended by our plumbing contractor. We will no longer be purchasing any Rheem water heaters.

We have a small space under our house for an electric water heater. We dont have much of a choice. We bought a Rheem 2 years ago, and have to replace because it was leaking out of the seams. We got a new one home, and opened the box. The bottom of the heater was all bent. Had to take it back. Waiting for the replacement, as I type. I told the husband to have them open the box at Home Depot, before he brings it home. Next years investment will be to replumb for an outside or garage heater. I am putting a curse on the people who built this house, and am beating myself up, again, for buying the place.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

I replaced my Rheem water heater less than 6 months ago and I have no hot water. Trying to get a contractor to my home to fix it is awful. I reported the claim on Monday and its Thursday. Contractor never has time. My previous Rheem water heater before replacing it, consistently having problems with upper and/or lower element. MFG kept sending contractor to fix rather than replace the unit. Because so much time passed in the process, the warranty ran out and I had to pay out of pocket towards the new one. And, as mentioned, its not even 6 months old and here we go again. Horrible product/horrible service!

First of all, because this is a new tank, the parts are not available in stores or from suppliers. And of course it always works out that things quit on a Thursday or Friday. That said after a misdiagnosis they sent me a part that worked for one day then quit but being the person I am, I dug farther and found that what they said was broken and the part that was broken were two different things. They sent me the assembly for the igniter, the problem was a cheap weld job on the circuit board. A piece fell off and I resoldered it which fixed the problem but created another. They wont send me a new part under warranty as I modified it in their words. I never heard such a crack but anything to not have to warranty something. Moral of the story is buy a reputable brand with parts that can be purchased off the shelf. When youre out a thousand bucks and have no hot water, youll remember this if you buy what I bought. Model XG50S09EC40B0 by Rheem and I bought mine from Home Depot. They had no parts and offered no solutions.

We installed a brand new Richmond 40 Gallon (Rheem) water heater which we purchased from Menards. It has a faulty Thermal shank. This has left me (and a renter) out of hot water for 3 days, while waiting for the part to arrive. Unfortunately no one has the part in town and there are no service technicians for the Saint Paul Minnesota area. I have called 15 plumbers off the list that was sent to me and I had difficulty finding one who will come out on short notice. I will not trust that I can have someone arrive after hours (@$259 an hour) and still be reimbursed. I will have a person tomorrow morning, but that means I will literally be boiling water for my renters bath. I am not looking forward to the paperwork I need to fill out for my claim. And I am disappointed that I will need to wait for my check to clear as proof of payment before finishing my claim. This is just more of a time delay to an already time consuming situation. This purchase has hurt my rental business. I will encourage others to buy another brand - especially Rental Managers and landlords who cant afford this type of hassle. I wish I could have just returned the product, but it is already filled with water and the gas and water lines are installed. I dont dare try to haul it back to the store for fear that it would be damaged on the way and then Id have an even bigger drama on my hands. And one more frustrating bit to this is the wait time when calling in. It was near a half hour. (Though the service line is faster).

We purchased a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater yesterday and had it installed by a licensed plumber this afternoon. Install went fine. Turned the water on and then the electric on, and waited a bit so the plumber could make sure all was well. All was not well, the water did not heat. Our plumber ran through the typical diagnostics and came to the conclusion the water heater was bad. Yes, it was bad, but the Rheem customer service was worse. This is a brand new water heater and they have said it was 3 different problems and they will send out a part. We wait for the part and then they will send a tech out--so we could be without hot water for more than a week--they could not give a darn. Brand new and this is the customer service you get--please folks, do not buy a Rheem. This story has a happy ending only because Home Depot in Holiday, FL is awesome. They are replacing the thing and going above and beyond for us. THIS is why we only use Home Depot. Rheem, take a clue from Home Depot and amp up your customer service or you wont have any customers to service.

I wanted to buy a Rheem Lifetime warranty Marathon hot water tank. They advertise that it will never need changing and will save you so much money in the long run. I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. Your product and customer service is a complete joke. I purchased one of your hot water heater in March. From day one we had problems. Finally after a week of no hot water and your customer service department playing games and the service company you referred playing games, we were able to get a new hot water heater. With that said, that hot water heater has been leaking since day one. I called and they sent me out a replacement part but, still it is leaking. I then called in today and spoke to a miserable supervisor named, Shakir.I called to get service along with request that my warranty that will expire in March be extended. He was rude and to the point of advising no and that he will get the service company out. For 2 hot water heaters to go in less than a 9 month period. What is that saying about your product. Also not extending the warranty even shows your own company doesnt stand behind its own product. Unbelievable! I will never purchase anything with your name attached to anything again!

Bought it in April of 2017. Called up and registered the warranty the day it was installed, gave all information and documentation I was asked for. Died on Nov 1 2018, called the number on the water heater, was told the labor warranty was expired but parts were in warranty so theyd send the part, got the part on Tuesday, got it installed and still got 7 flashing red lights, so called back on Wednesday, the second tech I talked to on Wednesday said two failures of the same part were considered a complete failure. Id have to bring the water heater back to point of purchase and theyd replace it. As we talked she offhandedly mentions that it had a 9 yr part warranty and a 2 yr labor warranty (since Id been told it was out of warranty I was under impression that the labor was 1 yr) and that the labour had expired in August. I told her I had purchased it in April, she had me email the receipt and serial number to another email. That night I got an email that my warranty was updated and if I had any problems to call 800-432-8373, so first thing Thursday morning I called and they said theyd schedule a service technician to come replace it and Id be contacted within one business day with the name of the service tech and the appointment time. A short time later I got an email stating Thank you for contacting Rheem. A request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive a call within 1 business day, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Sat 8AM-8PM ET for further assistance. So, I dont hear anything further on Thursday, and I dont hear anything on Friday. So Friday night I tried to call but it was after 8 pm et, so I called again Saturday morning. I explained my situation and asked why I hadnt been contacted with any update within one business day like I was promised. The person I talked to (never Identified herself, but her manager said her name was Leah) told me that the techs dont dispatch service people, they created a ticket on Thursday which went to dispatch who created a rework ticket on Friday and its Saturday and Im talking to the person whose job it is to call the service people and schedule them and if Id let her do her job shed call and see if someone was available. She put me on hold and came back and said, Nobody is answering so theyre probably closed for the weekend. Ill call them on Monday and see if theyll come out, or I can give you a warranty claim number and you can do it yourself. Kind of ** since if your people hadnt been slow walking it and had contacted me on Friday LIKE PROMISED I could have called on Friday and had someone scheduled to work on Saturday or Sunday, but since its already Saturday I cant contact anyone until Monday. She then told me if theres nothing else shes hanging up. I had to stop her and ask to talk to a manager, who told me if I didnt want to wait until Monday for someone to be called she could give me a warranty claim number so I could call someone myself. She also said she had to defend Leahs behavior because she such a good and loyal employee and Leah was the only person who could possibly handle my claim. She also refused to admit that your company failed in any way in upholding your promise to contact me within one business day, telling me she understood why I would feel that way (without specifying what way I was feeling). Very well trained to be noncommittal. Cant think of another company thats given me such horrible customer service in the last decade.

I had a new water tank installed about a year ago. Recently the gas control valve failed (a known factory defect, per Rheem authorized dealers). I incurred an almost $400 labor bill to repair it. Was on hold for an hour and Rheem refused to offer any reimbursement for the labor. DONT BUY RHEEM! We had our water heater replaced in Dec 2020 with a Rheem Performance 40 gal that was manufactured in July of 2020. August 13th 2021 the S.I.T. valve went bad, so I contacted Rheem on Monday August 16th as it was a manufacturer warranty issue. Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement. At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area werent willing to work on Rheem products and the ones that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue. To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, Yes we know. This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

Summary: $1,500 water heater was declared a lemon by Rheems tech support -- Rheem will not issue a full refund. I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem water heater (PROPG50-40N RH67 PD) from an authorized Rheem dealer, Johnson Thermol Temp Inc., Washington, MI. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi feature, used to raise/lower the water temperature from a smartphone, never worked consistently. After a seemingly random period of time (a few hours to a week) the Wi-Fi connection would drop, resulting in lukewarm-to-cold showers.During the next several months I placed many calls and invested dozens of hours of personal time working with Rheems tech support. To prove my home network wasnt the issue I was required to purchase and install two different Wi-Fi extenders. Rheem/Johnson Thermal made several attempts to troubleshoot the problem. They replaced the Wi-Fi unit. They replaced the gas valve three times. Nothing worked. Unable to solve the problem Rheems tech support declared the water heater a lemon (their words, not mine, case number 3137948) and told me to return it and Johnson Thermal would provide a refund.Johnson Thermal took the water heater back. A few weeks passed; no refund. After two more phone calls to Johnson Thermal and another week went by I received a partial, $700 refund. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Rheem failed. I placed two calls to their warranty group. Both times I was told that the manager was not available but would call back. Neither call was returned. Attempts to discuss the refund amount with Johnson Thermal failed. I placed a call to the manager -- it was not returned. A partial refund is not acceptable for a water heater that *never* worked properly. My expectation was/is for a full, $1500 refund.

RE: Serial number RH 0505 B17863. Manufacture Date 05/2005. Model # 82V52-2. Our home is 14 years old. We went away for Thanksgiving and came home to a flood from the above Rheem hot water heater. It had rusted through the bottom and was flooding for days. Why would you make a hot water heater that could rust??? Our home is still being repaired. ALL of the carpet, hardwood, tile, and parts of the walls have to be replaced. I can send many photos. I just cant believe that you can sleep knowing that this happens to so many people. Do NOT buy Rheem products.

We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Once my tenant started complaining that there was no hot water, I checked the water heater and the pilot was blown out. I re-lit the pilot and thought it would be good. Several hours later the pilot blew out again. This process happened all weekend. On Sunday night I stayed on hold with Rheem support team for 1 hour and 50 minutes. After explaining what was happening, They reassured me that they would have someone come out and call me tomorrow. That never happened! I have had a lot of back and forth with this company all ending with broken promises. Having me find a plumber and paying for everything. I have left messages and sent emails and feel that this company should be doing right by their paying customers. I will be taking this to the attorney general.

I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. It cost 5 times as much as a regular water heater and 3 times as much to fix. I will never, and I mean never, buy another Rheem product again. Ive had my water heater for three years and about three weeks ago, it started flashing an error code and the plumber has been here three times and still the piece of crap doesnt work. So thats over two weeks with no constant hot water and a bill that I could have bought two regular water heaters with. I guess I was the ** one for choosing this product. Never again. I called and asked if there was a contractor they could recommend and hes over 30 miles away. Anybody who asks me about this product, I only have negative things to say to them now.

I see all of these bad reviews of the Rheem water heaters and notice that many seem to be purchased at a retail level either thru their plumber or directly from Home Depot or other home improvement outlet. We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I researched which water heater to install before building, even talked to the Rheem folks. I told the plumber what I wanted. After much grousing, he installed what I wanted and I even got him to submit the registration paperwork that extended the warranty by 4 years ( one of the reasons I wanted it.).

Two months after purchasing three Rheem hot water heater on July 6, 2015, the water started smelling like rotten eggs in two of them. Contacted Home Depot where I purchased them. They told me the heaters were still under manufacturers warranty. I contacted Rheem numerous times via email on Rheems website and did not get a reply. Home Depot then gave me their number. Spoke with a representative who told me it was not their problem it was my water. I explained about the other heater that did not smell. She said I would have to purchase a chlorinator for each heater about $250 ea. and sent me an email with information where to buy them. I said it was the anode rods and they said that was not covered under the warranty. After that, a friend would flush the heaters with hydrogen peroxide and that would help until I went out of town. I was tired of asking him to do this so contacted Home Depot again on Jan. 8, 2017. This time they told me to call Asurion, the extended warranty I bought. That was a huge waste of time and money as they gave me the runaround too! After reporting Home Depot to the BBB, I was contacted and they contacted Rheem. Rheem called a plumber, told them to call me to call them to open a claim with them. I called Rheem and they told me the same thing they told me a year and a half ago. So Im back to square one.

10/11/19 I bought a Rheem 50 gallon hot water heater with a 10-year warranty. Model #: PROE50 T2 RH95. Serial #: Q401935323. 10-Year Warranty #:02-0415647. Installation by the Water Heater Guys was done professionally. When I tried to register the 10-year warranty, it was entered incorrectly as a 6-year warranty. Both Rheem & The Hot Water Heater Guys say they agree that I have a 10-year warranty, but my registration can’t be changed to show it. I must keep my water heater stickers & invoices to prove I bought it with a 10-year warranty, if I ever need it. Sound true? It is!

This company doesnt stand behind their product. They installed the water heater at at 4 star hotel and it leaked within two months of installation. It wasnt a small leak. It was a steady stream from the internal tank on the bottom. I called the company and spoke with Daniel ** and he said they could replace it but basically I was on my own. It didnt matter that it had caused some structural damage to the walls or molding. They wouldnt send a representative to inspect the unit. The unit was faulty and the company did not stand behind their product or the contractor that installed a product we believed to be good or offer good customer service for products. Things like this causes contractors like us a huge liability and possibly lost us a big client.

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!

I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

I purchased a Rheem Smart water heater back in November 2018. In August 2019 the water heater control panel shorted out and fried control panel. I need to add I did not pair my smart phone to my water heater. I set the temp to 120 and went about my everyday business. I called the tech line around 2 pm and was told I had to wait for a tech to arrive to fix the water heater. That was okay until they stated there were no techs available in my area, so they offered me allowance of $125.00 to find a plumber to come out and fix the water. Well problem 2 is there were no parts available in our surrounding area and I would have to wait for 2-3 days to receive the replacement part. Of course I was not going without hot water for that period of time and a plumber around here is $185.00 an hour from 8-5 and $277.50 for after hours. After they caved and got Home Depot to replace the water heater I downgraded to the basic and once installed it began to leak. Frustrating as it was I returned to home depot with the water heater at 9:50 pm and was given another water heater. Problem 3, I received the replacement control panel 4 days later and called three times asking to return it and Jesse says just throw it away, no need to return it. Rheem must be making money hand over fist to throw parts away like that. Im a home depot customer and I buy what they sell. Hopefully they will start carrying another brand for customers to choose from. I do not recommend this brand of water heater for any home due to the poor customer service they provide. Seven hours to replace a water heater. Thank God Im a do it yourself-er and dont have to depend on anyone to repair my home.

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. Its leaking & cant be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesnt come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if theres a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they cant track down by your name only the model # & yes, thats right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

I bought a new property in 2/2006, warranty for water heater is 6 years. I did not occupy the property until 7/2006. Rheem will not consider move-in date inreplacement of unit. However, aside from the six year limit, this unit has been defective from the start with major replacement parts, motor, vents, etc., which are on file with Rheem. Now, the water heater itself is leaking a few weeks over warranty. This unit is defective and should have been replaced. Does Rheem considers 6 years to be the normal working life of their water heater? Since I have been informed by the plumber that this is the only water heater that can be installed, I have no choice but to replace with inferior Rheem water heater again. I had completed construction of my new home in 2001 with a 40 gallon Rheem water heater. It lasted until mid year 2012 at which time it developed a leak in the side of the tank about half way down from the top. I was surprised that it only lasted eleven years when past experience was more like 20 to 25 years. I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater on 6-20-12 and immediately experienced trouble with the lower element leaking. The plumber came out and removed the element, cleaned everything and put it back together with Teflon sealer. I notified Rheem, but no one ever returned my call. Yesterday, 11-27-17 I noticed water in the containment pan. I pulled the lower cover and found the lower element leaking again. I tried to reach Rheem customer service with no luck! I strongly recommend avoiding Rheem Manufacturing water heaters. Looking around on the internet, I am not the only one who feels this way. What a terrible company.

I have a Rheem hot water heater, 50 gallon, that is still under warranty. On Friday 061716 I woke up to no hot water. After checking the tank we find out the pilot is out, so we re-lit the pilot only to wake up on 6/18/16 with no hot water again. We called technical support at Rheem and we were walked through a few diagnostic steps. The tech tells us it is the thermocoupler and that he can have one shipped out. We received the part on Tuesday, now 5 days without hot water, and we had it installed on Thursday. One hour after the pilot was re-lit it went out again and we were not able to re-lit. On Friday morning we call Rheem again and speak to a supervisor named Shakira. Before calling we had checked online and see that this issue we are having is happening to a lot of Rheem hot water tank owners out there.Shakira was no help what so ever, all she could do was refer us to repair companies in the area that we will have to pay. She also tells us that the tech rep that we spoke to on Saturday really was not qualified to make a diagnosis of what was wrong with our tank. I was lucky enough to get a company to come out Friday afternoon at the cost of $297... The tech tells me that the problem is the gas valve which is very common in Rheem tanks. He even showed me that the valve he was replacing the bad one with had been re-engineered because the original valves were faulty. It seems Rheem has a pattern of sending out the thermocoupler part, even though they are very well aware that the problem is their Gas Valve. It seems to me that Rheem is WELL aware that there is a problem with their hot water heaters but refuse to stand by their product. What has happened to customer service and making things right for the customer? I have also contacted a local tv stations consumer department to see if they can look into this. If more of us would call Rheem out publicly and go after them then perhaps we could all be reimbursed for our repair costs as well as help the next person out that goes through this. I was without hot water for 8 days and I have read that others have gone even longer. I would never buy anything from Rheem, as they have horrible customer service and they could care less about their customers.

I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now Im reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. Im taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water. The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. Its another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

On 8-12-16 my Rheem hot water heater which is (2) yrs old went to vacation mode and I only had warm water. Plumber spoke with Rheem and they recommend replacement of gas valve. Rheem sent part and it was replaced 5 days later. After a few days it went back to vacation mode. Plumber called Rheem and was told they would send another gas valve for replacement. After 2nd replacement of valve, a few days later it went back to vacation mode. Plumber called Rheem and they recommend replacement of vapor sensor. Vapor sensor was installed and again went to vacation mode. Plumber called Rheem and they recommend replacement of wire harness. After this replacement I had NO warm water. Plumber replaced complete unit on 9-24-16. Rheem covered the water heater but would not cover labor. Because of all their replacement recommendations my labor charges came to 1767.00. After reading the other reviews, why isnt this heater recalled?

Told us to buy an expansion tank. If that didnt do it to return it. Returned it for a new one and guess what. It leaked too!!! I have never been so frustrated with a product. Even the guy that installed it for us mad. I hope they will let us return this one.

They don’t stand behind their product! Totally shotty product. Our experiences have been problems start within the first year to year and a half. That shouldn’t be happening. Yes, your ‘parts’ may be covered as they are with most water heaters professionally put in, but remember, you’ll be paying labor for a plumber to put them in each and every time! Once you’ve bought it, I guarantee you (with few exceptions) you will encounter problems.

Dont buy the Rheem water heater for the warranty, it is worthless. It only covers parts, which leaves you at the hands of the thieving plumbers. The ignition and thermostat system is overly complicated and may fail. Mine lasted 5 years (12-year warranty). The plumber wanted $350 to repair the unit, the part (covered) is $112. My son who lives out of state does home repair and said it was a 15-minute job. I am trying to order the party under warranty but that is not going well. Brand new this tank at Home Depot is $850 installed so its smarter to get a new one. So buy the tank you think fits your need but dont get excited about the warranty, its not going to help much.

After three years I had to replace my Rheem gas water heater. Due to issue in the gas chamber and it having a leak. After going back and forward with customer service for four days. They finally agreed to replaces it. Since it was still under warranty. But first I had to pay a license plumber to speak/confirm it to them. They didnt even asks for his license #. Two weeks later Im back with no hot water. Due to new water heater having issue with gas chamber AGAIN. I had City Public Service come to check my gas lines/flow. They places a red tag on the heater and stated it was the CONTROL VALVE. Once again customer service said it could not be the control value. Due to it being new. They required a gas pressure count. Which is not cover under the warranty. Im just ready to give up and just go buy a new one AND IT WONT BE RHEEM!!!! But this is what they.

I purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water heater in August, 2016. This past Tuesday, no hot water. Plumber came and replaced the bad Thermo coupler. Tonight came home to no hot water. Plumber came, said it is a faulty gas valve. He gave me a choice-back-order a replacement part for $300.00 and wait days to get it and add in labor or it would be cheaper to replace the water heater. That is what I opted for. I am wildly disappointed in that Rheem unit. It was nothing but trouble from day one!

My plumber installed a new water heater yesterday after our previous Rheem started leaking. Within 3 hours of getting the new rheem installed it started leaking from the top and flooded my basement. My plumber called rheem and explained the situation they basically wanted him to patch it up as best he could. He is now out getting a new hot water heater to replace it. He said he had been using rheem for 10+ years and until now it had been his product of choice. He is now considering other brands. After reading all these bad reviews I’m very concerned about this product. Customer service and the warranty seems pretty useless. Would not recommend Rheem to anyone.

No way to get a credit even with me willing to pay for a new one. Bad company, bad product. The Rheem AC in my office also went bad after 9 months, theyve garbage as well. Spend a few extra bucks for equipment that will last longer and a company that will stand behind their product.

Bought a Rheem tankless hot water heater in Summer 2012. Installed by licensed plumber. Unit froze up in the very cold weather we had this winter, and the copper tubing split. Plumber said he could repair unit, but Rheem wont sell parts. The plumbing supply house where I purchased it told me that they no longer sell Rheem units.Contacted their customer service. Was disconnected after long waits 8 times just as I was at the You are customer number 5 stage before finally getting a woman who gave me a direct number to the tech department which was answered immediately. I was requested to take pictures (inside unit, and outside) and email them, which I did. That was nearly a month ago. I have heard NOTHING back from them, despite two other emails. My next step is contacting the Mississippi State Attorney Generals Office. The unit worked well and saved me over $80.00 a month on my electric bill, but I have now been without hot water for nearly 5 months. Hoping that I can get this thing fixed. Probably will have to buy a new unit and it WILL NOT be a Rheem.

I purchased and installed the hot water heater on a Friday in January 2021. Followed the instructions and waited the amount of time for the water to heat. It game hot water for about 5 minutes and then continued to blink and indicate re-heating. Called the company that it states on the side of the water heater and the person I talked to was less than accommodating. I have contacted a plumber to come and look at the water heater that is failing to heat. Do not buy this product. Yesterday we contacted Rheem regarding one of their hot water tanks that was only installed in April 2015, due to a loud bang then started leaking from the bottom. They authorized a replacement since was way under the Warranty Period. So far we were happy with the outcome. It wasnt UNTIL we took the defective tank back to Home Depot where it was originally purchased. First of all, they had no clue as to what they were doing, couldnt find our receipt even though was purchased with their CC and finally did NOT even do an even exchange. They charged us the difference from what was paid in April 2015 and what the price of the tank is NOW. Their reasoning behind this is the tank that was purchased in 2015 is NO LONGER manufactured so we had to get the one compatible to it. FIRST off, is it my fault the Hot Water Tank which was less than a year old went! SECONDLY, again is it my fault the original tank is NO LONGER manufactured! We proceeded to contact Rheem today regarding this issue, at which time they advised they have NO control how Home Depot processes Rheems defective merchandise/warranties or their prices. I was shocked and told the Customer Service Rep so. How can a company offer a warranty and NOT FULLY honor it. This should have been an even exchange regardless. I could understand if we wanted to upgrade or purchase larger. This was the only tank that was available.

And to take advantage of people in times like this. 100% the worst company I have ever dealt with. I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. My basement flooded nearly three years ago. I had to replace the water heater down there. I know you buy a Rheem Platinum Performance because Home Depot said it was the best. Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.
