I see all of these bad reviews of the Rheem water heaters and notice that many seem to be purchased at a retail level either thru their plumber or directly from Home Depot or other home improvement outlet. We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I researched which water heater to install before building, even talked to the Rheem folks. I told the plumber what I wanted. After much grousing, he installed what I wanted and I even got him to submit the registration paperwork that extended the warranty by 4 years ( one of the reasons I wanted it.).

I bought a Rheem water heater 3 weeks ago. Installation went well. But then the pilot light went out the next morning. I restarted it right away. After 1-3 days it keeps going out. It never stays lit. I called Rheem - they told me that they would replace it or fix it. They told me to get a plumber to come out. The plumber called up Rheem and told them that everything was hooked up properly but it is not working correctly - that it needs to be replaced. They told them that there was a tiny leak in the water that they tighten and fixed instantly but it had nothing to do with the problem. Rheem told them that it is not covered now because there was a water leak. I cant even begin to tell you how small this leak was. It was nothing. Rheem was just looking for any excuse not to replace it. They are such a joke.I would never buy another Rheem - I would never recommend one. My plumber kept telling them that the water had nothing to do with why this is not working. But they didnt care. They told me to go buy another one. Horrible customer service. Horrible product. Stay away from Rheem. Even my plumber told me that I should have read more reviews - most of their repairs are for Rheem.

16 year old water heat started leaking. I replaced it with a Rheem 50 gallon Power Vent Propane Water Heater. After 3 weeks it would only heat water to luke warm (tepid) then shut down. I read the bad reviews on this website and thought I made a big mistake. I bought it a Home Depot and had to drive 70 miles to pick it up. The Energy Dept created new standards effective April 2015 and there were only 2 in Southwest Ohio. Cant go without hot water very long (spoiled Americans). With all the bad reviews, why would HD carry this product?I called Rheem customer service and MY experience was the OPPOSITE of everything posted on this site. All were most helpful to troubleshoot. Sent a new pressure switch. I changed it and that didnt fix it. I am a very good DIY person. There arent that many parts to a water heater but a Power Vent heater is a little more complicated. I think I ended up (ultimately) speaking to 5 customer service people. The last was a guy that only advised on Power Vent models. He asked about the baffle in the middle under the Power Vent. I was sticking out about 1 inch but looked normal to me as I didnt know what was normal/abnormal. Apparently during the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati it worked itself out (it should be flush with the shoulder). I asked if I could set on its side during transit and the HD person said yes as long as I didnt set it on the side with the controls. Made sense but the baffle vibrated out a bit. The fuel/air ratio was confused. Anyway the last guy told me to push this baffle down. It was firm. I put a piece of wood on it and gave it a quick bang and it went down flush!!! I powered it up and it now produces scalding water. Hot setting is plenty. You do not need VERY HOT. You will get burned. To summarize, I wanted to counter all the bad reviews about Rheem water heaters and let others know they WILL help you and send a part/technician right away if necessary. Working perfectly now.

Purchased NEW unit through a marketing company on Ebay. Verified with Rheem the Serial number had never been registered. Installed unit and just in five years the heat exchanger has failed within the parameters of the 12 year warranty. I have gone back and forth with this company and realized they do not stand behind their products over technicalities. They call the business that sold me the tank and the Stainless vent kit a third party vendor that is pure manure! I have the receipt the vendor wants to help and the Rheem company said they are out of the picture! Its between me and the vendor! I smell manure again! Any store selling manufacturers products are not liable for the warranty...the manufacturer is once you produce a legit receipt. Conclusion: RHEEM HAS NO ETHICS, INTEGRITY AND ANY CUSTOMER ORIENTATION! Learn from my experience>>> why would you buy their product after reading this review! I have emails of this short version of a review I am posting>>> Learn from others misfortune & experience

Purchased and had professional installation on a Rheem 40 gallon water heater with a 9 year warranty on 1/30/2015. This morning 5/3/2017 just a few months over 2 years the unit failed and needs to be replaced. Now I am out $500.00 labor and must pay the difference between todays price and the price I originally paid for the water heater... Spoke with customer service and of course they wont pay since I am over the two year parts and labor portion of the 9 year warranty. What a ripoff! They know they are making junk and are smart enough to limit the warranty so they are not responsible for labor when their inferior products fail prematurely. Dont get Rheemed like I did and stay clear of these poor quality products.

April 25, 2015 my plumber installed a Rheem 40-gallon H2O Heater bought at Marina Del Rey, CA Home Depot at my Santa Monica rental house. The water did not get hot & we assumed it would in several hours. My tenant called me April 27th that the water still was not hot & observed a big water leak coming from the unit. My usual plumber who installed the unit was 100 miles away working & unable to arrive. I called RHS (Reliance Home Services), they arrived in 30 minutes & determined the H2O Heater as defective. My tenant was very upset and demanded emergency replacement now. Reliance informed me they could replace the H2O heater within the hour and guarantee hot water and a working H2O heater. I went online and found other complaints of Home Depot Rheem 40-gallon H2O heater. I always thought Rheem was a good brand. I read Home Depot is purchasing low quality Rheem H2O heaters. I could not take another chance of getting Rheemed by Rheem as other angry Home Depot consumers of Rheem H2O heaters describe their frustration. So I incurred a 2nd H2O heater expense & installation with Reliance for emergency service. Although, the tenant and I were pleased to finally have hot water within the hour! I feel as others that this is totally unacceptable to sell bad products! I was unable to send pics of receipts due to my malfunctioning VZ cellphone!

Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing
Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing from Home Depot in Modesto, Ca. First problem was at 1 & 1/2 years after purchase. Upon inspection of PG&E I was told Thermocouple had to be replaced and most likely it was a faulty part and or product (Not knowing about the hundreds of complaints similar of mine). The part was replaced at my expense. One year later the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th problems occurred (3 times in 5 months). Upon inspecting a LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND in my hall area, we discover the pilot light is no longer lit on the GAS WATER HEATER. Initially there are problems in re-lighting it but fortunately it has re-lit.It then came to mind to begin searching for this products recall. Not as easy of a task and I continue my search for a recall, but in the process I have found this water heater is no longer sold by Home Depot; every review was bad with most stating the thermocouple having to be replaced within the first two years, and this product has been discontinued. The GE Appliance website states this model is no longer being manufactured. And it is no wonder. What I am curious about is what it takes for a product to be recalled because from what I have researched it is the opinion of hundreds that this water heater is junk, a hassle to deal with the continuous problems, very costly. I pray not, although I fear the explosive sound could be a danger or deadly. If I could I would most definitely purchase another water heater but I am currently disabled, living on a limited income that I cannot even make it on each month. Therefore I pray for our safety and that the water heater does not have any further problems. As I have written this complaint, I have to GE as well. And Ill continue to seek a recall for this product. MY ADVISE, DO NOT BUY A GE WATER HEATER MANUFACTURED BY RHEEM!

Yesterday around 5:30 pm I heard a loud popping sound and looked up. Saw sparks coming from the lower level of my home. Upon further investigation, I started to see and smell smoke. Once I figured out where the smoke was coming, I quickly discovered the source of the smoke, which was from my Rheem hot water heater that had caught on fire.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

We had our water heater replaced in Dec 2020 with a Rheem Performance 40 gal that was manufactured in July of 2020. August 13th 2021 the S.I.T. valve went bad, so I contacted Rheem on Monday August 16th as it was a manufacturer warranty issue. Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement. At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area werent willing to work on Rheem products and the ones that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue. To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, Yes we know. This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

I wanted to buy a Rheem Lifetime warranty Marathon hot water tank. They advertise that it will never need changing and will save you so much money in the long run. I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. My insurance told me that 99% of insurance companies will still require that the unit be changed after 10 years regardless of the manufacturers warranty claims. Note: I am in Canada. Buyer beware!!!!

Purchased a 50 gallon Rheem electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Had a master plumber install the water heater. He thought all was working well. Never got any hot water. Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater. My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

It had rusted through the bottom and was flooding for days. Why would you make a hot water heater that could rust??? Our home is still being repaired. Very displeased with Rheem warranty experience. My water heater burned up and it was a part of a warranty claim. I called and was sent an email and opened up original case where I sent pictures of my burnt up water heater (which I still have my pictures) which this water heater was 4 years old and a part of a recall. After I sent in the pictures I had talked to a lady in regards to getting the pictures. She mentioned that it was really bad and Rheem was going to send me an email so then I can go to Home Depot and find an equivalent water heater at no charge. But when I called in the next day no one had any clue what I was talking about and sent me an email but they started a new case. Which is really odd they would give me a new case number... they must have gave me a new case number since they didn’t want help out with a recalled product. The second case number I got the email that mentioned I am now getting a new part instead of getting a new electric water heater. I have yet to see this supposed part that was issued. There is no way anyone can go this long without a water heater... literally 1 1/2 months. I am truly disappointed with the customer service and time it is taking for this to get taken care of. I had to go out and buy a brand new water heater because I couldn’t wait that long for the part to come in and this was issued 4/28... I had to spend over $600 dollars on this new unit as well as a $250 labor charge for them to remove and replace the new unit. It is pretty sad because when I first sent the picture I was told that because it was burnt up badly that I should be getting an email in regards to an approval to go to Home Depot and find an equivalent one at no charge. But when I called since I didn’t receive the email on the approval to go to Home Depot to get an equivalent one. I called then a new case easy wrote up and they were supposed to send a part. I am very unhappy with the customer service since pretty much nothing has been done to get this fixed fast enough done. This went out 4/23... and it is now 6/15 and I still have not gotten any response back from Rheem. No one ever get Rheem product since they are not helpful at all. This needs to get straightened out because there is no help at all because I am out a lot of money to get this taken care of when Rheem should have taken care of a majority of the expense.

Dont buy the Rheem water heater for the warranty, it is worthless. It only covers parts, which leaves you at the hands of the thieving plumbers. The ignition and thermostat system is overly complicated and may fail. Mine lasted 5 years (12-year warranty). The plumber wanted $350 to repair the unit, the part (covered) is $112. My son who lives out of state does home repair and said it was a 15-minute job. I am trying to order the party under warranty but that is not going well. Brand new this tank at Home Depot is $850 installed so its smarter to get a new one. So buy the tank you think fits your need but dont get excited about the warranty, its not going to help much.

Water heater (electric) dead after 4 years of use and flooded our garage. Rheem will not give any sort of credit or reimbursement for a new unit as they say it can only be returned to a plumbing supply store. They can not or will not deal with the public. No way to get a credit even with me willing to pay for a new one. Bad company, bad product. The Rheem AC in my office also went bad after 9 months, theyve garbage as well. I purchased/installed a 40 gal GE hot water tank from Home Depot just 1 month ago. Its a model SE40M12AAH, w/12-year warranty, and while its a GE brand believe the mfg is Rheem. When the top element is on the tank makes a loud hissing noise and you can almost hear it heating the water. This noise is constant when the hot water was just used, or is running. I cant even stand to work down my basement anymore because of this obnoxious unbearable noise. Sure am glad its not installed on a first floor living area.I called GE/Rheem technical support and the rep asked me what kind of water supply I have? I told him well water but its filtered, doesnt have any iron/sulfur/minerals, and is as clear as spring water. He told me the the top element probably has sediment built up on it and I need to remove it/clean with beach. I told him Ive lived here for 26 years, have had 3 hot water tanks, and none of them ever made this loud noise. I also asked how sediment would build up on the top element since if there is any it would build up at the bottom of the tank? He said I will still need to pull the element out and clean w/bleach. I asked him what tool I needed and he said I need a 1 1/2 deep-well socket to remove the element or a plumbers element removal tool. Think this is called a element winch. Regardless, I dont have one and he told me I will need to get one.The tech did say he would send me a complementary replacement top element.I cant believe after just 1 month of use Im expected to work on this new hot water tank. Should I expect this every month?? I purchased the more expensive 12 -month warranty hot water tank since I thought it would be better and last longer. Its already turning into a nightmare and wish now I wouldnt have gone with GE/Rheem.In looking over the warranty there is a 1-year full warranty where they are supposed to send someone out to replace defective parts free of charge. I sure wasnt offered this service and I saw nowhere in the warranty where they mentioned well water may be a problem. It sure wasnt with the other tanks I had including 2 which were Rheem brands. It should also be noted this tank is listed as a self-cleaning tank so how could any sediment be building up on the elements already? They sure dont build them like they used to. I also miss the exterior bottom thermostat control knob for turning down the temp up/down as needed, or down when you are on vacation. Now you have to remove the bottom thermostat cover, and insulation, to turn the temp up/down with a screwdriver.Ive yet to contact Home Depot on these hot water tank problems and it will be interesting to see what they say.Its kind of ironic Home Depot raised the price on this tank to $366 from $319 a month ago. Nothing like paying $47 more for a hot water tank Im already having problems with after 1 month of use.

We built a new house in 2013. Our Rheem 50 gallon water heater is only 8 years old but of course, this happens right after the warranty is expired. We finished our basement about a year ago. Thanks to this water heater failing, we now have to replace not just the water heater, but all of our beautiful new hardwood flooring, the carpet in the bedroom and some of the drywall. Original water heater = $1,000. New water heater = $1,000. Homeowners insurance deductible = $1,000. Time off from work to remove everything from the basement to pull up the flooring = $840. Total cost of owning this thing = $3,840. Steer clear, folks.

From reading the other reviews this seems the consensus with hot water heater by Rheem. I wish I would have read these before my purchase. I purchased and installed the hot water heater on a Friday in January 2021. Followed the instructions and waited the amount of time for the water to heat. It game hot water for about 5 minutes and then continued to blink and indicate re-heating. Called the company that it states on the side of the water heater and the person I talked to was less than accommodating. I have contacted a plumber to come and look at the water heater that is failing to heat. Do not buy this product. With every purchase there is a possible issue that consumers must deal with BUT customer service should follow.

I purchased a 30-gallon Rheem water heater on Black Friday 2014. And it worked fine for about 45 days. Then I had to light the pilot light for the first time. So the heater worked for several day after. Then I had to light the pilot again and it worked for several more days, again. Thereafter, the pilot light had to be lit, but then would only stay on less than an hour. Then I lit again. The next day it was out. So I called tech support and they ask for pictures of install. I send. By this time, I call my plumber who installed unit. He could not get it going. So I call tech support again, they say thermal couple is bad and they send one. Their plumber comes out to install and the darn heater still wont light. So he call company and tells them its the igniter switch wire is bad, they send that out. Their plumber comes back, installs switch, gets the heater going. Within an hour, its back out. So I call tech support yet again, the guy says its the control now, so hell send that. Now it wont light, so hot water. This has been a nightmare. I will not buy another unit from this company, this has been hell. Stay away, you wont regret it.

Well bought a water heater July 2020. Now Oct 7 pilot light won’t stay lit. Called company that installed it and they came out and said there is recall for these Rheem water heaters. Unit made in 2020 had a gas valve made incorrectly (also made in China). Rheem notified its vendors and sent kits (made in USA) to repair issue. These we to be install free as they went bad. What is needed is the new control module and new burner to match. Techs are replacing now. So I guess In a year we’ll know if works.I post this because I read a lot of self installers talking to Rheem and just replace certain parts. Since the gas control module is paired burner you need both. The China made one the open for the gas was too small and would start to fail after 6 months to a year. So if youre just replacing the one part it’s a mismatch. And will still give you trouble. It really the match of thermal coupler to the Burner but they changed it anyway.

Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldnt get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didnt have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!! While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas companys fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now its a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didnt do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Dont buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

We purchased a home water heater with installation from Home Depot. That was done on Monday. The technician left before it was filled. The tank, not the pipes, started leaking as soon as it was full. We contacted the contractor and Home Depot and they both said to contact Rheem. After 37 minutes on hold I was told that a licensed Rheem professional would contact me within 24 hours to schedule a time when he could come verify the leak for himself. Now day 2 of no water heater and no call. Stay away from Rheem and Home Depot.

We purchased a Rheem water heater less than 8 months ago. The product was manufactured in February of 2013. There are only 2 adults in the household and this morning when trying to shower before work, we found there was no hot water. My husband called Rheem to receive no assistance other than Rheem would cover the part, but not the cost of a plumber to install. My husband could install, but Rheem would not even overnight the part, telling my husband it would be 2-4 days before the part would arrive. My understanding is that these water heaters are no longer made in the United States and therefore the thermal coupling will likely go out many times. After reading other reviews, I see there are others with the same problem. It is amazing that Rheem does not stand by their product and take care of all costs (the plumbers fees). We will never buy a Rheem product again and will be sure to tell others not to purchase Rheem products. Perhaps if Rheem stood by their product and took care of their clients, they wouldnt lose business.

Why is it that nothing lasts anymore. I put this Electric Tank in our home in July of 2019. Now December 2019 and it keeps tripping the Local cut out. I suspect that the Thermostat on the lower heater element is dead but, I am now at work and cant get back home to look at it. Of course it dies on a weekend. We are a family of 5 and honestly this is the last thing we need. The tank was working perfectly up until a few days ago. Now Ill have to contact Rheem and see if I can get any warranty out of them. I feel that the best thing I can do is call my local Home Depot where I bought the thing and see if I can get them to issue me a replacement!Uggh, I dont have time for this!!!! Do not buy this unit as it will not last you. This was supposed to be a 9 year tank!!!

I purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water heater in August, 2016. This past Tuesday, no hot water. Plumber came and replaced the bad Thermo coupler. Tonight came home to no hot water. Plumber came, said it is a faulty gas valve. He gave me a choice-back-order a replacement part for $300.00 and wait days to get it and add in labor or it would be cheaper to replace the water heater. That is what I opted for. I am wildly disappointed in that Rheem unit. It was nothing but trouble from day one!

Bought a hot water tank Feb 2018. 5 days later it went out! Water leaks no hot water! Called customer service and they said, Maybe get you someone tomorrow? I cant afford to pay again to have their faulty water tank replaced? And why should I? It was ONLY 4-5 days old? Yet customer service said maybe tomorrow??? So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didnt have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow? The tech. makes the decision? O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow? Mike said, I DONT KNOW! Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this mans voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem cant take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. And still here at 10:15 am. NO return call to confirm. They would be here between 4 pm and 7 pm. NOW still wondering will we have HOT water tonight??? Happy Valentines DAY right.

My water heater was recalled due to fire hazard. I was informed by Rheem that the control panel they normally provide (free of charge) is back-ordered with no ETA. I was told that I had to return the faulty water heater to the point of purchase for a new one. I got the exact model, just a few years newer and had to pay ~$500 more for the new one, okay fine. Here is where it gets bad. Rheems deal was to reimburse me the installation fee up to $450. I provided all of the necessary paperwork, filled out their forms as instructed and have email confirmation that my reimbursement is approved and a check would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks. Here we are over 10 weeks later, and counting, and no word from Rheem. They will not respond to my emails and I cannot reach anyone on the phone. What started as their faulty product, barely halfway into the products warranty, should have been a free fix has ended up costing me well over a $1,200! I would have been better off to cut my losses and purchase a water heater from a different manufacture, which is exactly what I will do when this one craps out before the warranty period is up. I held up my end of the deal, they will not hold up theirs.

On Oct. 3, 2011, I ordered a part for my 4 year old water heater. It was because my repairman said that Rheem will not send them to repairmen so they can repair it, and that I can only get one part replaced. If it goes bad again, I have to replace the water heater. Its not good. So, we contacted Rheem and ordered the part at approximately 2:00 pm. They said it would be shipped over night. It wasnt. I called them the next day. They said it was not going to get here until the next day. I thought that by buying a name brand water heater, it would be reliable. Unfortunately, that is not the case. We installed a Rheem tankless water heater system in February 2017 and starting about a year ago, it has consistently failed to produce hot water. It appears to be a computer/software problem, as our plumber is able to reboot it, but we have not been able to do so following the manual. The reboot may last a few weeks, or 24 hours, and there seems to be no discernible trigger. Our next step will be to remove the system and replace it with traditional water heaters.

Model # 22VR40FN - Water heater needed repair after just a few years of service. Had to pay $235.00 for a tech to repair. Rheem makes you jump through hoops just to try to get a $45.00 parts reimbursement covered by their warranty. Almost 40 minutes on phone, repair invoice from plumber marked paid with our check number on it sent previously but I guess, not enough (insulting), image of both sides of our cancelled check needed as additional proof of repair. So that means more time wasted - special trip to bank to get cancelled check copy. Will never buy a Rheem product again. I purchased and installed my Rheem gas hot water heater Dec. 2, 2020. For 7 months I didnt have a problem but then like most people on here my pilot light went out while I was out of town so wife had no hot water. When I got home I lit the pilot and thought it was fine only to find out it went out again. Saturday evening I changed the thermocouple I bought that day at Home Depot the same place I bought the water heater so that night after changing that and it not lighting and changing back to the old one I figured it was probably the gas control valve. Sunday morning back to Home Depot to find out none of them had a gas control valve in stock. The gentleman at the store called Rheem and right away placed on hold for 20 minutes till he used another phone to call again. This lady was helpful saying they can get a plumber out but who knows when, so instead she sent me a thermocouple and a gas control valve.I had to go back out of town Sunday so another week the wife doesnt have hot water. The part arrived before I got home so I changed it as soon as I walked in the door. Took around 30 minutes. So today I called to see if they can send me a spare gas control valve because I shouldnt have to go over a week without hot water and this original one lasted 7 months so Im sure this new one will go bad. But I was told they dont ship out spare parts. This was all after being caller 39 and being on the phone for 58 minutes before getting hung up on. When this one goes bad the water heater is gone. Heads up when changing the gas valve mine came with a screw in plug in the hole I needed for my pilot gas line, make sure to plug the other hole if you have to remove one because I wasnt aware of that and had my house smelling like gas fast. Rheem needs to plug both holes and let the consumer unplug the one he/she needs. It could save a life.

Two weeks later Im back with no hot water. Due to new water heater having issue with gas chamber AGAIN. I had City Public Service come to check my gas lines/flow. They places a red tag on the heater and stated it was the CONTROL VALVE. Once again customer service said it could not be the control value. Due to it being new. They required a gas pressure count. Which is not cover under the warranty. Im just ready to give up and just go buy a new one AND IT WONT BE RHEEM!!!! But this is what they.

I bought a new property in 2/2006, warranty for water heater is 6 years. I did not occupy the property until 7/2006. Rheem will not consider move-in date inreplacement of unit. However, aside from the six year limit, this unit has been defective from the start with major replacement parts, motor, vents, etc., which are on file with Rheem. Now, the water heater itself is leaking a few weeks over warranty. This unit is defective and should have been replaced. Does Rheem considers 6 years to be the normal working life of their water heater? Since I have been informed by the plumber that this is the only water heater that can be installed, I have no choice but to replace with inferior Rheem water heater again. I would have expected to be compensated by Rheem for the water heater, especially since this is the only model which can be used.

We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! They will keep stalling on replacing your water heater until you give up and buy a new one because you need hot water. 12-year warranty tank, only 4 years old. Already had to replace the thermocouple 2 years ago. Second failure now only lets it give hot water for 1-2 minutes and its out. Since this was not my first bad experience with a Rheem heater customer support, I just went straight to a plumber. They told me the tank needs to be replaced. OK, next day I call support, they want me to check a couple things and get back to them, fair enough. Call back 2 days later, they have no record I ever called so we start the entire process again, and they decide to send me a new gas control valve even though the first person I talked to said that didnt fit the symptoms. 2 days later I get it, and install it. Still broken, call back again, by now its been a week without any hot water, and everyone in the house is pissed at me. They want me to run a water temperature test AGAIN for a third time, even though Im already well aware the water gets hot... it just runs out in about 2 minutes. They want to send me another gas control valve, even though I just installed a new one they sent me that day. Which I wouldnt get until Tuesday since its a Saturday. Refuse to allow me to trade it in for a new one, and the supervisor tells me its clearly a plumbing issue since the gas control valve was replaced and I checked the dip tube and its not cracked or broken. He tells me just like a water heater, parts can fail in plumbing. My copper pipes can fail somehow causing hot water to run out quick? With zero plumbing changes? Yeah, OK, they clearly are just coming up with any excuse possible to not give me a working water heater. At this point I need hot water, so I give up and go buy a Whirlpool. Hey, I have all the hot water I want now, turns out my copper pipes didnt break in a fashion that sucks the hot water up. Shocker, it was the water heater. $750 down the drain on a new water heater because their support refuses to actually help.

My A.O. Smith water heater began to leak so I went to Home Depot and purchased a 50-gallon electric heater. I installed it and turned it on. Everything seemed normal but the next morning as I was checking it for leaks, I noticed water on the very top of the heater. I thought it was one of my connections but upon further inspection found it to be coming from under the cap. I tightened the two nipples that were mounted by the factory and tightened my home connections. The next day there was water again. I called Rheem and they sent out a plumber and he installed two new nipples sent from Rheem. The next day more leaks. Rheem told me to take it back to HD and they would pay the plumber to take it. He brought a new tank and installed yesterday and this morning there was water all over the top! This is nothing but faulty manufacturing! Two tanks in a row that leak internally? Something is wrong with Rheem. I asked the Rheem rep if they had a problem with certain models and he said no.

There are lots of problems at the start. Finally, it was fixed after Rheem sent a man from the home office. it worked for four years then went to heck. The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.

He recommended exchanging and installing another water heater. Home Depot was great about the exchange but Plummer said I would have to pay for the labor as he has had problems in the past getting paid by some manufacturers. So I paid him and then filled a claim with Rheem get reimburse... Im still waiting on my money and they are not responding to any of my emails. :-(

I bought a Rheem gas hot water tank in middle of November 2020 and by mid June the pilot and burner stopped working. Called and waited on the phone for about an hour to get warranty and they shipped parts took about a week but they didn’t have a technician so I paid $350 for a company to come replace the parts. The parts worked for about month and now again I’m out of hot water and still waiting for them to refund the money I spent because they didn’t have a technician even though parts and labor were both under warranty. After 2 hours on the phone again they are sending someone in 10 days that is out of state to come look at the tank. After talking to a few other people who purchased Rheem products I would not recommend as they all had the same problems. In the 9 months I’ve owned the hot water tank I have been out of hot water for a month, missed work to wait on a plumber, spent $350 out of my own pocket, and lost hours on the phone. Plus after complaining and contacting them multiple times I am now getting emails saying they would only refund $250 and then an email the day after saying only $150 which are both contradictory of what they said. They do not care about products quality or show any care for their customers. Highly recommend going somewhere else for all products especially hot water tanks.

Bought new water heater Tuesday, got the 9 year warranty. Guess what, new water heater doesnt work. Friday called toll free number see if warranty would cover parts that need to be replaced and work. Rheem calls back to inform us that we live too far away from a tech to send one. That we would have to call the plumber ourselves and pay for all work. We then send the invoice to Rheem and they decide if they will reimburse us for it, but only up to $125.

I hired a licensed contractor to install a new Rheem water heater. After 6 months the new water heater leaked, it had a crack in the tank. The contractor replaced the water heater under warranty. A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? Will the damage cause the tank to rupture or leak hot water?

Rudest customer service department ever all the way from the customer service reps who answer the phone to the supervisors of the area. I called because our water heater broke on December 23 when it was only 3 years old and received no assistance. The service guy was told the part wasnt available for 2 weeks. The supervisor told me no one called in. After pulling teeth, she finally agreed to double check my serial number, and it was typed in wrong. He did call in. The initial rep and supervisor were very rude, and not at all sympathetic. The repair man was also given the wrong information. He was not offered an alternate replacement part that would also work. We will be replacing our tankless water heater, and it will not be by Rheem.

Our tankless water heater failed within the extended warranty time, no problem, we will just contact Rheem customer service and get them to send a new one. Paid $80 in shipping, installed the water heater, errors out with an ambiguous error code 13 while using water at a normal flow rate. Dozens of calls to Rheem customer service, they tell us we need to have gas guy come out and check our gas service. We have to pay $200 for that check of the service, and it turns out the service is fine. Call Rheem about their defective unit and advise gas is fine, they start their claim for sending another replacement unit, another $80 for shipping. We have not had hot water now for weeks and will be waiting for another week and a half for a new one to be installed. I started looking into the company to find out that, they have a TON of defective units out there and unfairly expect the customer to shoulder the burden of proof, and costs associated with shipping, inspection, and installation. Will never buy or recommend Rheem to anyone, unless I really want to tick them off.

I bought a Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot and had it installed on 2/9/17. Once it was done, I found leak. After talking to Rheems customer technical support rep, she admitted its a leak from the tank and asked me to return it to Home Depot to get a replacement. I had to spend more time and labor cost to uninstall the 1st one and then reinstall the 2nd one. After that, I have asked for a compensation.Rheems customer service team in April asked me to send proof of payment for services such as a copy of your cancelled check FRONT/BACK or a credit card statement. If paid by cash, please be sure to provide the phone number for technician/company so we can confirm payment with them, which I did through both regular mail and email. But so far I have not heard from them anything. When I called Rheems customer service #, they said they wont handle it. I have to contact their billing department. But they wont provide the contact phone #. I had to BBB to help me, but no result. Cant believe how bad their service is. So next time when you buy a water heater, be very careful!

I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.

Rheem does not honor their warranty. My plumber installed two Rheem water heaters in my two family and it worked great for two years. Three months ago, one of them burst at the bottom and flooded my basement. It was not a problem because I got 6 or 7-year warranty on the product. I then called Rheem they confirmed that the product is under warranty. They gave me a return number and advised me that I should take the defective heater back to where I purchased it.The contractor took it back but the distributor where it was originally purchased said that they will not exchange. I contacted Rheem and they told me to try another distributor--same thing, no exchanges. I called several more and asked Rheem if they could ship me one they said no. This has been ongoing for three months so I eventually contacted the BBB. Rheem said that they would give me a fair market value. This turns out to be about $400 when a new heater cost is about $800--not fair at all. Please do not purchase from Rheem because they do not honor their warranty. In late 2015 we purchased a Rheem water heater from Home Depot for a rental property. We paid a plumber to install it. After installation, the water heater made loud bangs after use. The plumber recommended running the water for a while to release air in the pipes. The water heater continued to bang until it eventually stopped working. We paid to have the plumber take it back to Home Depot for a replacement. We paid the plumber to install the new water heater, which banged as well. Reading in to the instructions further, we were advised to install an expansion tank. We bought the tank and again, paid a plumber to install it. This new water heater continued to bang!I finally called Rheem who admitted this was a manufacturers defect. They would send a local company out to move the pilot light closer to the burner. When I asked if they planned to reimburse us for our expenses they declined. When I asked why the water heaters are still on the floor at Home Depot their response was we dont have problems like this with all of them. When I spoke with the local company they sent out to move the pilot light I asked if they deal with issues like this often and they said All the time. I also asked Rheem if we could have a new water heater because I was worried that damage had already been done to the heater currently installed. They declined.

Major safety problem as the only way to get hot water is to turn the water on and off at the unit so the initial flames warm the water. Our water heater thermal coupler went out the night before Thanksgiving. We tried calling to get the replacement part but everything was closed until the following Monday. We took his word since he said he was the expert. We paid to have it expedited for next day. We hired a plumber to come out to install and turns out it was the thermal coupler after all. I paid for the plumber for the service call. I called Rheem and after over an hour waiting was finally able to talk to the manager and he agreed to refund the expedited delivery charge. Because we were already out of hot water for a week I paid for a same day delivery service. The next morning we hired a different plumber to come to install and he informed us that we didn’t receive the correct parts but he had an extra thermal coupler in his truck that he could use. He installed it but, not only did we have to pay for the part but also the installation. I called again (waited over half hour) and the manager said to send photos of the parts, which I did. He sent an email for me to call to discuss.Again, waited on the line only to be put through to someone else, went through the whole story again only for them to tell me I had to speak to another manager. Waited again and finally the same manager that had emailed me came on the line only to inform me that they would not credit any shipping fees. I offered to compromise and pay for the same day service but he refused, was condescending and not willing to help at all. I highly recommend you stay away from any RHEEM water heater products. Rheem he80-130n commercial water heater - I own a restaurant in Phoenix and your water heater was nothing but trouble for me. Its a real hunk of junk. The unit was very expensive to begin with and was only 2 years old when the first igniter went out. Now, when the unit was 3 and a half years old, the igniter went out again and blew the main board. We replaced blown igniter again and blown board again. The plumber I had working on it said the unit was poorly designed. I cant believe what a hunk of junk this unit is. On top of that, I could not buy parts on the west coast. I had to have them shipped next day from Boston. It really is bad business to have a product that you cant even get parts for. A restaurant cant run without hot water, so it needs to be easy to repair. But to only last for 3 years and cost $6,000 is totally unacceptable. That I put $900 in parts and the unit still only worked for a couple of days is crap! So I had to take your unit out and replace it with another one, which cost me a lot of time and money ($5,000). It also caused my business to suffer from having to close kitchen because of your faulty product design. You would think for all that money this unit would work much better than it does. For the igniter to blow and destroy the motherboard, that’s a poor design. I believe your company should refund me part of the cost of the unit for it being such a piece of crap, or at least for the parts that I purchased and the labor to install them. Just an extremely unhappy customer!

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 my water heater, which was purchased and installed on 8/28/17 stopped working. We contacted Rheem and was told that they would send a replacement part and would send someone to install it. After we received the part, Rheem told us that they did not have anyone to service our area and we would have to find our own person. We contacted several companies and we finally found someone to come out, but they wanted to be paid at the point of service. The contractor informed us that it was the wrong part, so we contacted the company again and they sent us another part. The new part arrived on Friday, May 4, 2018 and after installation the contractor informed us that the machine needed to be replaced. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would put in a request for replacement through one of their companies and we would be contacted within 24 hours. We waited the entire weekend and Monday morning to be contacted. Finally, we called Rheem back and they gave us the number to the contractor whom they sent the order. The contractor told us that they told Rheem that they do not service the area. We contacted Rheem again and they told us that they would need 24 more hours to contact another company. On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, I was told by a rude representative that they have done all they can do and she would transfer me to another department, who she said could help me. I spoke with a new rep who was more understanding of the fact that I have not had hot water in over a week; however, he put me on hold and transferred me to another department. I spoke with another rep who told me that I can find a person on my own because it was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a manager and she told me to hold on and transferred me to Fidelity Bank. We have not found a company who are wants to work with this company and no one can help us with this faulty product.

I installed a Rheem 40 gal gas hot water heater on Monday June 7. It would not stay lit. I had the local gas company come out and check the output of the gas meter on the house and then at the heater itself. Everything checked out ok so on Friday, June 11, only 4 days after buying the unit, I called the technical helpline at Rheem. Caitlyn diagnosed the problem as probably being either the thermal coupler or the gas valve and that Rheem would send out the parts. The problem was it would be 4 to 5 business days. Thats now an additional week without hot water on a tank which has been installed for less than a week. Expediting the order will cost me for the additional shipping expenses. I waited on hold with the shipping department for a half hour without anyone answering before hanging up and buying the parts locally. I will never buy another Rheem part because they dont stand behind their products.

They don’t stand behind their product! Totally shotty product. Our experiences have been problems start within the first year to year and a half. That shouldn’t be happening. Yes, your ‘parts’ may be covered as they are with most water heaters professionally put in, but remember, you’ll be paying labor for a plumber to put them in each and every time! Once you’ve bought it, I guarantee you (with few exceptions) you will encounter problems.

DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!

Bought new Rheem electric heater from Home Depot had it installed and it could not get water temp above 85 degrees. Called Rheem and after on hold for 20 minutes said all they could do is send repair parts that have to be installed. Home Depot wants to charge me to have the parts installed. Now I have to get it removed and return it to Home Depot for a refund. Do not buy Rheem. It is junk.

The company recalled the unit. It started a fire in my house. They didn’t bother to ask if everyone was ok after the fire. They wanted to repair the damaged water heater. It was totaled. The fire department pulled out the electrical system to make sure the fire was out. I sprayed a whole can of fire extinguisher in my garage. Made a huge mess. Didn’t care. I called. They said they would find a technician. They didn’t. I had to find one. Finally after a lot of calling found one. Got amount authorization from them. I submitted my invoice twice instead of invoice and receipt, resubmitted with corrected info. Now they want my credit card bill to verify the receipt was real!!! They all need to be subjected to having on fire in their home. So they also won’t cover the extra $200 for the new water heater which I wouldn’t of had to get if the one they sold hadn’t started on fire. So please don’t ever buy anything from them. Put them out of business!

We bought a Rheem water heater from Home Depot, it kept leaking. I called Home Depot. They told us to replace the valve, so we did, still leaking. Called to see what we should do. Told us to buy an expansion tank. If that didnt do it to return it. Returned it for a new one and guess what. It leaked too!!! I have never been so frustrated with a product. Even the guy that installed it for us mad. I hope they will let us return this one.
