Water heater started to leak water and wont turn back on. Called for services and they told me that a repair person needs to come to inspect item first. Soonest they can sent someone is 2 days later. Have my whole family including 4 kids and disabled father without any hot water. According to them. Thats the best they can do and make me wait.

Our Rheem Performance Platinum water heaters control panel started an electrical fire. I have numerous documents on it - fire department report, photos, etc. It caused smoke damage and carpet damage to our home. We are out a $2500 home insurance deductible due to the faulty appliance. After the incident I searched online regarding the particular make and model of this water heater and found out there is a recall for this very same reason. We were never notified by the manufacturer of this recall/defect. I had sent in my warranty card the day we had the water heater installed, but still did not receive notification. Notification could have prevent this fire at our house. I have tried contacting Rheem several times and have not received a response.

On Oct. 3, 2011, I ordered a part for my 4 year old water heater. It was because my repairman said that Rheem will not send them to repairmen so they can repair it, and that I can only get one part replaced. If it goes bad again, I have to replace the water heater. Its not good. So, we contacted Rheem and ordered the part at approximately 2:00 pm. They said it would be shipped over night. It wasnt. I called them the next day. They said it was not going to get here until the next day. I thought that by buying a name brand water heater, it would be reliable. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Whatever happened to customer service? The people I talked to were just a call center, so they really didnt care.

Installed this water heater on 11-23-19. Had two leaks right away. One from the cold water nipple and one from the pressure relief valve. I fixed them, now water temp is 98 degrees. Called the warranty department and there are no techs to service this water heater in central PA. Told me to call a licensed plumber to fix it and they will pay for the repairs. I called several plumbers and finally found one to come out before the holiday. He will not deal with the warranty company so I have to pay the bill and then submit that to Rheem. They then told me it would be 4-8 weeks before I was reimbursed. The representative was rude. When I told him I would never buy another product from this company he simply said, Okay, bye and hung up on me. They do not deserve any stars.

Purchased NEW unit through a marketing company on Ebay. Verified with Rheem the Serial number had never been registered. Installed unit and just in five years the heat exchanger has failed within the parameters of the 12 year warranty. I have gone back and forth with this company and realized they do not stand behind their products over technicalities. They call the business that sold me the tank and the Stainless vent kit a third party vendor that is pure manure! I have the receipt the vendor wants to help and the Rheem company said they are out of the picture! Its between me and the vendor! I smell manure again! Any store selling manufacturers products are not liable for the warranty...the manufacturer is once you produce a legit receipt. Conclusion: RHEEM HAS NO ETHICS, INTEGRITY AND ANY CUSTOMER ORIENTATION! Learn from my experience>>> why would you buy their product after reading this review! I have emails of this short version of a review I am posting>>> Learn from others misfortune & experience

I have a Rheem water heater Model # 22V30F with a broken Pilot Knob. I contacted Rheem and multiple parts suppliers. They all told me the same thing. Rheem does NOT sell the Pilot Knob individually. I need to purchase the Gas Control Valve which costs anywhere from $80.00 to $150.00. What a ripoff! Only the Federal Government would pay $80.00 or more for a knob that is worth less than $5.00. I guess Rheem wants to Ream their customers. I will never ever purchase any Rheem products again. I have seen the same knob on other brands of water heaters. I will try to get a knob from one of them.

Our water heater died, so I Got this unit because it was almost $100 cheaper than any other unit I found. I now know why! It was very easy to install but once it was, the bottom element began to leak. I called Rheem customer service. DO NOT EVER CALL THEM. What a waste of time. They do not care that the unit leaks, refuse to get you help. Home Depot only sells the unit and will not get involved to help with any issues. It took me over 15 calls to Rheem to get them to send out a plumber to repair the unit. Do not cut corners, spend the money and buy a better unit!

My water heater was not even five years, I had a six-year warranty. Sunday morning I awake to a flooded garage. As an elderly disabled woman, I didnt know what to do. That day I had to get it replaced, which was very costly for me, I felt relieved that it was still under warranty. I called first thing Monday morning, he asked me so many questions, then made me go out in the rain to remove a metal panel from the unit and drilled me on what I saw inside. After that he then claimed it was a parts issue that could of been replaced and therefore his hands were tied and couldnt do anything for me. Who could go for days waiting for a part that I wouldnt know to do with it when I got it and go without a shower for days. They will find any reason not to cover their products, even with a warranty. They have no consideration what people go through and the work and damages it causes. Will never purchase any of their products again and tell everyone I know.

18 months ago I bought a Rheem water heater from Home Depot and had it installed by them. Friday night, May 25, the pilot light went out. We were unable to keep it relit. Called Rheem. (Has six year warranty.) Paid $1600 for the heater. They said it probably needed a Pilot Assembly Replacement kit. They would send one to my home from the parts dept. However, since it was the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend, the part couldnt be delivered until Tuesday!!! (Four days later). Their parts department wasnt open all of the three day holiday. So, on Tuesday morning, I called to track the part. They couldnt tell me anything, except it would be sent out that day, and arrive on Wednesday. Now five days without hot water. I asked to speak with a manager. Said nothing he could do would expedite the part. He was sorry. Very poor PR for Rheem. Additionally, Consumer Reports, that I belong to had no ratings for Water Heaters. Not a happy consumer today. Very upsetting.

Purchased new Rheem water heater. Installed in new home 8/27/2020. Tested pressure relief valve as instructed in Use & Care Manual. Valve would not fully re-seat and leaked to ½ gallon in 24 hours. Tried valve several times to see if it would flush out any material that may prohibit it from closing properly, leak continued. Called Rheem Tech Support at 1-800-995-0982 on 8/23/21. Sat on hold for 27 minutes before being disconnected. Called a second time, on hold for 51 minutes before someone answered only to tell me I had wrong department and they could not help. Called Tech Support # again, on hold 37 minutes, asked for a supervisor. Was told that Parts Warranty only good for 1 year from manufacture date. I was given a part # and told I would need to purchase part for about $37. Told them I have documentation of when Water heater was installed and put into service, that doesn’t matter, parts only good for one year from manufacture. Started calls at 11:30 AM, ended 1:45 PM, over two hours. This water heater touts a 10 year Warranty, evidently need to get to fine print to learn that parts that will commonly fail are only given one year from date of manufacture. I am a builder and have had multiple Rental properties, this water heater was for my own home. This in my experience is the worst customer service/support ever, I will personally never purchase or install another Rheem product. Buyer beware, you are dealing with a bloated, self-important company if you deal with Rheem.

Water heater quit working (2 years old). Call customer service - told me that I needed to find out the color of the wiring connector inside the control panel. Drive home, take it apart and determine that it is white. Call back. Told replacement part would ship and arrive tomorrow. Great. They call me to say that the water heater is under recall and to call them. They dont tell me that the part they promised isnt really being shipped. I call them. Transferred to another department. Now Im told that I will receive an e-mail in a couple of days telling me how to get a part a couple of days after that. That means no hot water for six days. Request to speak to a supervisor. After 30 minutes on hold, I get tier 2 support - just another call center. Told that the warehouse is closed at 3:00 pm and the part might ship tomorrow - meaning only five days with no hot water - If they really do ship the part and it isnt defective - which some other posts suggest it might be. DO NOT ever purchase a Rheem water heater!

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

Hot water heater pilot light problem. I purchased a hot water heater on October 21, 2015 and on January 14 no hot water! I was told to call our local gas provider PG&E. The service technician for Pacific Gas & Electric arrived at my house Saturday, January 16 and stated that the water heater was no longer good. I then on the same day went to Home Depot with my receipt and the statement from Pacific Gas and Electric. I was then told that they would not take it back. A Home Depot employee told me I would have to call the manufacturer and gave me the phone number. The employee from Home Depot stated that the manufacturer would have to give Home Depot permission to accept the defaulted product. On January 20, 2016, I called the manufacturer and described to him what had happened and read the Pacific Gas & Electric statement to him and he said that they would not allow Home Depot to take it back and exchange it. The employee that I spoke to you from the manufacturer stated that he could mail me some parts or something. I then told him that as a consumer and from what my statement from my local gas company states the product is defaulted.

I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (Im a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a normal operational issue. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. Im pretty shocked - Ive never seen this ever before! EVER. And Im 54... I replaced the parts and figured that Id be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didnt pop the breaker either. Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats. At this time Im real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. Im a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... Im thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, its time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and dont want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.

In Feb. 2014 my home warranty company who by their very nature replace covered parts with the cheapest product they can. That’s an issue in and of itself. Sent out a technician who replaced the previous failed water heater with a Rheem 48 gallon tank made in Mexico. It states it right on the model number and serial number sticker. This tank came with a 6 year limited warranty. On 6/28/2020 the tank failed and was leaking out the bottom, luckily I caught it quickly and was able to shut off the water and attach a hose to the tank and drain it before further water damage could occur. I called a plumber who came out first thing in the morning and he took one look at it and confirmed what I knew that it had to be replaced. I asked why this would fail within five months of being out of warranty and he informed me that Rheem is a consumer grade product that’s not very good. As he disconnected the unit and wheeled it away, a stream of red colored water followed it as it exited my garage. I asked the plumber if that was rust and he confirmed that it was.I asked if my whole house water filtration system could have helped the unit fail faster as salt is used in the filtration process. He and my filtration company whom I already had scheduled to come out that day to change our filter medium, both confirmed that this would not have caused this and more so would have helped prolong the system as no sediment would build in the tank.Plumber installed a new tank made in America and told me that this was a solid tank and should easily last 10 years. I contacted the Rheem warranty department and explained my situation and the front line rep stated since I was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor as I felt this was just a few months past warranty and how it failed seemed like planned obsolescence.A supervisor called me the next day and I explained my plight and asked if Rheem could do something given the circumstances. The supervisor stuck to his story and kept referring back to the warranty and that he couldn’t do anything. I even asked if they could do some form of partial compensation as I was out $1800 for the new tank and install. He kept to his company line and stated he couldn’t do anything. In business you can ALWAYS do something, especially for exception situations where it’s clear your product failed sooner then it should have. I asked the supervisor if he truly couldn’t do something or is it more the case he wouldn’t do something. That was a little to close to home and we promptly ended the call as I knew I was dealing with a terrible manufacturer who they and companies like them are more concerned with profits then manufacturing and standing behind their product.Rheem is a common brand sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s outlets. My plumber would never touch them because of their shoddy manufacturing. Rheem is a key example of the current discordant atmosphere in this country as their business practices are focused on greed, period. Use cheap labor in Mexico, less than adequate materials for the purpose of the product and make their margins by mass volume through these national retailers. Staff your customer service with minimum wage or barely over minimum wage to dodge claim calls and ultimately only compensate as few claims as possible. It’s more cost effective to staff customer service and train them to avoid claim fulfillment than it is to make good when their products fail. This company should be shut down, liquidate all its assets, attempt compensate customers who were in warranty and denied and proceed down the list as best as possible. Residual if any, should then be used to fund a start up in either America or Mexico or both and bring in best in class manufacturing processes to produce a truly viable product that the new company will stand behind. DON’T BUY OR INSTALL A RHEEM WATER HEATER. Install a better quality tank and pay the extra cost. You will easily recover that cost in performance as well as not having to deal with costs of home and property damage from a failed tank.

Had the one fail after 3 years and was told I had to bring it to Home Depot myself and then Home Depot only gave me a credit for lowest sale price of the unit instead of even exchange. Anywho as I needed a water heater and Id rather use the credit then lose it all I decided to pay the difference and bought the platinum edition unit with the 12 year warranty with 3 year in home labor coverage. However, 2 hours after install I noticed the pan was filled with dirty water. Turned out the internal tank failed. POOR quality control. No way this tank was tested at 300psi as the sticker states. Maybe the brand but not my specific tank! So meanwhile I just got done lugging old one into Home Depot, then this one home, installed etc. Now been trying to reach Rheem for 5 days straight but they are having phone issues. Finally get ahold of them and am told its under warranty so I can on my own dime and my own hurting back uninstall this unit, drive it to Home Depot and exchange it even though paperwork and stickers on tank say DO NOT RETURN TO STORE... So I guess this 12 year warranty just means that Im able to install/uninstall for exchanges for a period of 12 years worth of crap merchandise? What is the point in having a 3 year labor in home warranty if they wont send anyone to my home!

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

If you thinking getting a tankless water tank think about it. It can take up to 75 second to get hot water, if you do not have a recirculation loop in your house forget it. The Rheem does not have a buffer tank in the unit. You will have to get install a recirculation pump and a mini water tank beside to keep a certain quantity of hot water to be use until the tank warm up the rest of the water you need. But if you go for Navien NPE series you will need just the recirculation loop. That brand have the buffer tank inside the unit. And you have a app to change the temperature of the water from anywhere is your house. While we understand the terms of a warranty, when a product dies only a few months after the warranty expires it is extraordinarily disappointing. When we spoke to Rheem about this matter and were concerned about what appears to be a planned obsolescence of a product, they could have cared less. They were disrespectful and rude. Given the option to purchase another water heater in the future we will NOT use Rheem. And when we checked at the local Home Depot we find their warranty which was 9 years has now been reduced to 6 years. And based on their previous warranty if you purchase a Rheem expect it to die around 6 years and a few months. Sad and disappointing.

I cant afford to pay again to have their faulty water tank replaced? And why should I? It was ONLY 4-5 days old? Yet customer service said maybe tomorrow??? So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didnt have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow? The tech. makes the decision? O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow? Mike said, I DONT KNOW! Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this mans voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem cant take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. And still here at 10:15 am. NO return call to confirm. They would be here between 4 pm and 7 pm. NOW still wondering will we have HOT water tonight??? Happy Valentines DAY right.

To follow up with the pictures I submitted and to the part that was burnt. When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but its in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

We had our water heater replaced in Dec 2020 with a Rheem Performance 40 gal that was manufactured in July of 2020. August 13th 2021 the S.I.T. valve went bad, so I contacted Rheem on Monday August 16th as it was a manufacturer warranty issue. Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement. At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area werent willing to work on Rheem products and the ones that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue. To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, Yes we know. This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

Bought a new Rheem 50 gallon gas water heater from Home Depot. Plumber installed water heater but it kept cutting off. He walked with Rheem technician and found the new heater had a faulty valve. After a lengthy delay, Rheem sent the new valve and it was installed. We tried to have Rheem pay Amerigas (he worked for them) for the installation. After repeated delays because of missing paperwork (we sent multiple copies), Rheem indicated they would pay the gas company. They have not and now the gas company tells us we are late in our payment. We have never been late in our payments to anyone!Today Rheem told us they had sent us a letter (Right! We have received no such letter!) telling us they will only pay about 40% of the installation fee for that defective part. NEVER AGAIN!! Do not buy from Rheem. They send defective products then fail to cover the installation cost of replacement parts. Never again! Stay away from this company. Now we are left to worry about this water heater should anything go wrong with it in the future! What kind of company is this!! Oh, and their service department is a joke. Sadly the joke was on us. Stay away!!!!

Hi there, I am a home builder by the name of Ivaan Interiors in Winnipeg, Canada and I bought a 60-gallon HWT from Home Depot last month Dec 2021 for my new house to sell. The hot water tank was installed on-site by a licensed plumber and electrician. The electrician found that its not heating and consuming double Amperes as compared to it and tripping the circuit breaker. The electrician double-checked all the wiring but it didnt work and mentioned that there is some problem inside. We called customer service and they said, We can send parts, and we have to get it repaired at our end. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can we repair and why should we spend another hundred bucks to get it repaired. We didnt buy this brand new product to take the pain to repair. The buyer is taking possession next month. I want it to be repaired or replaced asap. I would appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and solved immediately. Manish

I purchased/installed a 40 gal GE hot water tank from Home Depot just 1 month ago. Its a model SE40M12AAH, w/12-year warranty, and while its a GE brand believe the mfg is Rheem. When the top element is on the tank makes a loud hissing noise and you can almost hear it heating the water. This noise is constant when the hot water was just used, or is running. I cant even stand to work down my basement anymore because of this obnoxious unbearable noise. Sure am glad its not installed on a first floor living area.I called GE/Rheem technical support and the rep asked me what kind of water supply I have? I told him well water but its filtered, doesnt have any iron/sulfur/minerals, and is as clear as spring water. He told me the the top element probably has sediment built up on it and I need to remove it/clean with beach. I told him Ive lived here for 26 years, have had 3 hot water tanks, and none of them ever made this loud noise. I also asked how sediment would build up on the top element since if there is any it would build up at the bottom of the tank? He said I will still need to pull the element out and clean w/bleach. I asked him what tool I needed and he said I need a 1 1/2 deep-well socket to remove the element or a plumbers element removal tool. Think this is called a element winch. Regardless, I dont have one and he told me I will need to get one.The tech did say he would send me a complementary replacement top element.I cant believe after just 1 month of use Im expected to work on this new hot water tank. Should I expect this every month?? I purchased the more expensive 12 -month warranty hot water tank since I thought it would be better and last longer. Its already turning into a nightmare and wish now I wouldnt have gone with GE/Rheem.In looking over the warranty there is a 1-year full warranty where they are supposed to send someone out to replace defective parts free of charge. I sure wasnt offered this service and I saw nowhere in the warranty where they mentioned well water may be a problem. It sure wasnt with the other tanks I had including 2 which were Rheem brands. It should also be noted this tank is listed as a self-cleaning tank so how could any sediment be building up on the elements already? They sure dont build them like they used to. I also miss the exterior bottom thermostat control knob for turning down the temp up/down as needed, or down when you are on vacation. Now you have to remove the bottom thermostat cover, and insulation, to turn the temp up/down with a screwdriver.Ive yet to contact Home Depot on these hot water tank problems and it will be interesting to see what they say.Its kind of ironic Home Depot raised the price on this tank to $366 from $319 a month ago. Nothing like paying $47 more for a hot water tank Im already having problems with after 1 month of use.

We had a Rheem Gas water heater that was continual problem. Rheem sent us new parts and the gas valve switch continued to be an issue. We paid for a plumber to come out twice. They then keyed the unit is unrepairable and had their service tech come out to replace the heater. I had to go to the Home Depot to exchange the water heater with them because I had purchased it. I was charged an additional $160.21 for the exact water heater unit because they said they price had gone up in the last year. I called Rheem and they said that it was not their issue and that I needed to follow the procedure for Home Depot. I asked if I was supposed to pay for a new price or a straight exchange and they continued to repeat over and over that I needed to follow Home Depot procedures. I feel like I was not taken care of well, had to pay for a plumber twice to come to my house and an additional $160 because of their faulty water heater. I would not purchase this brand again.

My 8-month-old Rheem water heater GUSHED all 40 gallons that were in the tank. I called Rheem and was told I was not covered because their warranty begins when THEY manufacture it, NOT when you buy, install it! I asked the less than professional customer service rep how I would know it was manufactured and with a snicker, she said, Oh, you wouldnt. I spoke with 4 people throughout the day, each with a different explanation. They emailed me about doing a leak test which only flooded my utility room A 2ND TIME! Never, never, buy another Rheem water heater again. They are obviously poorly made, and their customer support is worse!

Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home
Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home in August 2015. Worked for three months, then had issues with NO hot water. Getting error code. Contacted company and after several attempts and disconnects finally got someone. Was told that the venting was improper and to contact plumber to have them look at it and then send the bill for reimbursement. We did as we were told, changed venting per their specifications and still does not work correctly. Plumbing company contacted Rheem and they sent new blower assembly. This was replaced and did NOT fix the problem. Again contacted Rheem spent over 2 hours trying to get someone. Finally got someone in another department who transferred to supervisor. They have supposedly contacted Menards to reimburse us for the bad water heater, but now are refusing to reimburse us for the bill that was incurred by having a plumber come out. They are stating we did not provide the correct documentation showing a defect. Bill was sent that we received from plumbing company stating their fees.We cannot understand why no one is looking into this company regarding all these issues that this company is having with their bad product and NOT honoring their warranty. This company is causing frustrations on customers that should not be happening and not honoring anything in their warranty booklet. Nor are the phone numbers that they are listing on this warranty numbers that consumers are able to get through. When talking to the supervisor I brought this issue up and even asked him if he has ever tried calling the number listed. He said frankly no. I asked him to please do this as well as forward this on to individuals that are higher up so that they are aware of this issue. I would seriously hope that this company look into their issues with their products and take note of what consumers are dealing with.

My Rheem 50 gallon water heater started leaking after 4 years and was replaced. Rheem refused to honor the their warranty, mind you the heater broke after 4 years! We also have a water softener to mitigate leak issues. Left on hold multiple times for long periods. Obviously symptomatic of the many issues with their cheaply made products. Would never buy from this company again and recommend avoiding at all costs. Their reps are not courteous and don’t give a crap. Rheem wanted me to bring back the broken water heater to the place of purchase. Of course the previous plumber who installed it bought it so no clue where they purchased. Why would I need to return a broken water heater??? Answer, to make it difficult for customers to get compensated. The warranty is terrible and not worth the paper its printed on but more importantly, the water heater broke after only 4 years. Terrible product, customer service and terrible company.

We bought the Rheem Water Heater 2 years ago. First 6 months, the Honeywell gas control light flashing 7 times and no hot water at all. My husband called Rheem, they said the Gas Control failed. They charged around $100 for sending a new gas control. Recently, the gas control failed again. This time is in cold season and we waited one week for the part coming. Thats horrible when we do not have hot water in used. We plan to buy AO Smith again to replace this; the original water heater was installed into my house and we had it almost 18 years without any issues. Thank you for reading.

The customer service representative promised to overnight the part and told us how to replace the part. We have now been six days without hot water as the rep forgot to overnight the part and it now the weekend and they cannot send it until Monday for Tuesday delivery. We called Home Depot for help at this point and their policy is after 90 days we own it and they cannot help us with it unless we want to pay them an additional $100.00 then they would try to help. Dont waste your money and time on this product and think twice about purchase a major buy at Home Depot! Going to give up and just throw away the Rheem and purchase a different brand! Updated 08/16/2021: Six month old RHEEM hot water heater stopped working. I could not get thru to anyone at RHEEM by phone nor their webpage. Their webpage said they had no service workers in my area. So per warranty, I paid a plumbing company to repair it. Warranty says 1 yr., parts and labor. Found them on FaceBook and left a review, finally after several days and messages they called and emailed me paperwork to have filled out. Had to chase down the plumber for a list of parts and labor broken down, their W-9 form, and RHEEM wanted copies of CANCELED check from the bank. Lucky I paid cash! Sent it all in certified return receipt. All sent in 6-30-21. Today is 8-16-21, I have received nothing from them. My post on their FB page have been deleted. Please check their reviews online before purchasing from them, I am NOT the only one with RHEEM problems.Original Review: Bought Rheem 40 gal electric HWH in January 2021, now it is 6 mos and it just stopped working. The breaker is fine, also tried the reset button... Nothing. Ive called 3 phone numbers and tried to contact them thru their useless webpage. What good is a warranty if I cannot contact them for service!

I have waited since July for a refund check, that I had to pay ($225.00) to the contractor. He refuses to work with RHEEM. I can see why! He only worked on mine because I am a regular customer. Today (2 months later) I called to find out WHEN I should be getting a check. I was told 4-8 MORE weeks. Because I didnt submit my cancelled check with my claim - therefore - it hasnt even been processed. No call from them to tell me I needed to send cancelled checks. I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. Its leaking & cant be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesnt come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if theres a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they cant track down by your name only the model # & yes, thats right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

We have had nothing but problems with our Rheem tankless hot water heater. Right now at this moment we are without hot water and have been so for almost 2 weeks now. Our unit is under warranty and needs to be replaced. Rheem did send us the vent kit, but no heater. We have called customer service. The first two ladies we spoke to were nice then we were transferred to another lady that was quite rude and absolutely no help at all. She told us that we need to contact the parts service department, our problem isnt HER problem. On the phone for hours with no results. Our plumber is at his wits end dealing with this company. We were told to go to Menards and purchase a new heater ourselves and Rheem would reimburse us for the cost. Yeah right! Rheem needs to send the unit, because I do not trust that they will reimburse us after all the trouble we have had getting anything out of them. We are still under warranty! We have company coming for Thanksgiving and no hot water! Im snapping and so sorry we ever went with Rheem. We are so disappointed in this company and the way they treat their customers. My advice to anyone considering a tankless, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM RHEEM!!!

I bought a new property in 2/2006, warranty for water heater is 6 years. I did not occupy the property until 7/2006. Rheem will not consider move-in date inreplacement of unit. However, aside from the six year limit, this unit has been defective from the start with major replacement parts, motor, vents, etc., which are on file with Rheem. Now, the water heater itself is leaking a few weeks over warranty. This unit is defective and should have been replaced. Does Rheem considers 6 years to be the normal working life of their water heater? Since I have been informed by the plumber that this is the only water heater that can be installed, I have no choice but to replace with inferior Rheem water heater again. I would have expected to be compensated by Rheem for the water heater, especially since this is the only model which can be used.

We are in the restaurant business and would have to close. I found the part at an appliance part house for $44 and hired a company to pick it up and bring to my store for $112, then called the company that sold and installed the heater (United Plumbing - Woodland Hills, CA) and they sent out a tech and it took about 30 minutes and I was charged an additional $475. I called Rheem and was told to read the fine print. They would only cover the whole unit if it had to be replaced and if it could be repaired like my unit did, it would not be covered.

We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

I am a maintenance technician at a town home complex that had 30 Rheem power vent water heaters installed in them 4 years ago. Of the thirty heaters I have had to replace, 21 gas control valves, I have to call because they are under warranty yet. But our tenants have had to wait 7 days for the part to show up to fix the problem. Rheem knows they have a problem because after giving them the model and serial numbers from the I.D. plate, they send out a new valve. My issues are angry tenants because they have no hot water and I have received repair calls every day of the week, weekends and late in the evenings or very early in the mornings. I even had a replacement gas valve go bad so they have not fixed the problem from what I can see. The operator at the service center told me that I had already replaced a valve on a unit after he checked the serial number, and I told him he was right it was. Now we just built another 24 unit complex here and after begging the owners to not put these in they still put the exact units in here. All I can say is Rheem must give a big push to contractors to keep moving this brand.

The Rheem tankless water heater is nothing but trouble. We have had constant failure of the unit since it was purchased. I have been on the phone with customer service several times trying to self diagnose the problem along with one of their representatives. The same error code keeps coming up time after time and I cant seem to find any plumber who will work on this unit, apparently because it is such a defective POS that no one wants to touch it. We have even had our gas meter upgraded for a larger one, but the tankless continues to fail. I am hoping to participate in a class action lawsuit against Rheem. The unit is clearly defective and they have offered no solution. In the meantime our family continues to be without hot water several day a week, as paying to have the entire water heater replaced is out of our budget at the time. Considering we spent around $2,500 for it(including installation) 2 years ago, it is quite a disappointment that the company will not even recommend someone for repairs.

I bought a Rheem gas water heater and about 2 months later, it makes a loud popping noise and goes out. I call the company and they are rude with me. I have been on the phone back and forth with these people for 2 months and I still do not have hot water. The part they sent did not fix it. My plumber says its not fixable and needs to be returned, but apparently the company is going to go bankrupt if they let me return the water heater and will not give me a return code. I dont know how many things Im expected to do before they finally decide to give me the code. Im beyond frustrated. Im a single mom with cancer and its difficult for me to take my kids and I to someone elses house everyday to shower. If I had the money, I would trash the thing and buy another one (different brand) just so I wouldnt have to deal with this company anymore. I will definitely not be buying another water heater from Rheem ever and I will make sure everyone I know is aware of their lack of friendly customer service and a heart. No one should have to go this long without hot water.

Why is it that nothing lasts anymore. I put this Electric Tank in our home in July of 2019. Now December 2019 and it keeps tripping the Local cut out. I suspect that the Thermostat on the lower heater element is dead but, I am now at work and cant get back home to look at it. Of course it dies on a weekend. We are a family of 5 and honestly this is the last thing we need. The tank was working perfectly up until a few days ago. Now Ill have to contact Rheem and see if I can get any warranty out of them. I feel that the best thing I can do is call my local Home Depot where I bought the thing and see if I can get them to issue me a replacement!Uggh, I dont have time for this!!!! Do not buy this unit as it will not last you. This was supposed to be a 9 year tank!!!

We bought a water heater in 2009. 2014 - realized it was leaking all over the garage. Called the big box store from which we purchased and was told we would only get $140.00 credit towards a new water heater. To my understanding GE and Rheem are no longer affiliated so the warranty becomes pro-rated. Therefore the 12 year warranty we thought we were getting is no longer good. I called the 800 number on the water heater and talked to 3 different people. 2 were very rude. The last lady I spoke to gave me an address to write a letter and complain. If there is a class action lawsuit in the works, I would love to be part of it. Rheem owes me $490.00.

Two months after installing a water heater we got awful sulfur taste and smell. We tried the recommended treatment using hydrogen peroxide to kill the bacteria. This worked for 3 months and then it came back, so we treated the condition again with peroxide. This worked for another 6 months. By now Covid virus was in effect and we could not buy the peroxide anywhere. We noticed water on the floor and I also noticed the electrical breaker had popped. Taking the top cover off, I found the insulation covering the top element and thermostat burned and the wires black and corroded. I spoke to Rheem 3 times, each time a different person, but got nowhere. All they offered was a new element even though the whole insulation within the unit was totally wet. Based on the corroded condition of the wires, the thermostat and the element, we refused their miserly offer. We finally contacted Home Depot and spoke to someone knowledgeable, Les, the plumbing manager, and he agreed to call Rheem. After getting nowhere with this company, he spoke to his manager and suggested replacing the heater at their cost which they did. We hope this one is better but we dont expect to have the same life as our previous heater that lasted 28 years.

Eight days later I still have not received the part. I have now been up without hot water since Thanksgiving night. The honorable thing to do would have been to send the part via FedEx overnight instead they sent it FedEx ground and it will not arrive until Monday if at all! Sad! Pilot light on 2 year old 50 gallon water heater would not stay lit so had to call plumbing company that originally installed. After some piss poor diagnostics by the plumbing company, they finally called Rheem and determined it is the gas valve assembly that is faulty. Part will take two days to arrive. Although part is covered by warranty the labor is not so I will now have to pay $300 for the diagnostic fee and installation of the new valve on a TWO YEAR OLD water heater. Dont buy the Rheem water heater for the warranty, it is worthless. It only covers parts, which leaves you at the hands of the thieving plumbers. The ignition and thermostat system is overly complicated and may fail. Mine lasted 5 years (12-year warranty). The plumber wanted $350 to repair the unit, the part (covered) is $112. My son who lives out of state does home repair and said it was a 15-minute job. I am trying to order the party under warranty but that is not going well. A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? Will the damage cause the tank to rupture or leak hot water?

They said nothing is wrong with unit and to contact PG& E to do safety check. PG&E came out and found nothing wrong with the areas surrounding the water heater. They checked the pilot light and said it would go out again. Problem with water heater itself. Contacted plumber again and they dont know what the problem is. 05/09/14 - No hot water again. Contacted a couple of different plumbers but they refused to work on Rheem products. I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. Our problem of no hot water started in June of 2011 and we continue to have this problem. Tankless water heater would work for few weeks then start flashing error code 11 or 12 on the monitor, and no hot water. This issue continued on and off for a while and now, it has gotten worst. Weve contacted Rheem customer care several times and each time, they all seem to tell us different reason for our problem. It really is a challenge trying to see if we will have hot water each day. Just recently, Rheem representative told my husband the gas line pipe is the wrong size. Thats not true because weve already checked the line, valve, gas flow, etc. They dont know what the heck they are talking about. They must read the problem manual given to them when they were hired. Weve also had Rheem authorize repairer looked at it. They have no idea what or how to fix this problem. Between Rheem customer care and Rheem authorized repairer, I dont know which one is worse because they are just one sorry ** after another. My husband and I are seriously thinking about switching back to the good, old-fashion water heater because we never had any problem with it. When our friends talk about installing tankless water heater, we tell them dont get Rheem tankless water heater because it sucks!

I bought a Rheem water heater in May 2017 from Home Depot. 7 months later it failed right on Christmas Eve. I called Rheem and the warranty part was sent quickly, but since they could not find any contractor in my area to do the work, they said I can use anyone local. I filled out the warranty claim and sent all the required paperwork back on Jan 2nd, 2018. First they said itll take 6 - 8 weeks to process the claim. Its now 2 1/2 month (March 16th, 2018) and my claim was still not processed. The last time Ive called, I was told that they were back-up in the warranty claim department (wow... imagine how many units have failed that could create such a back-up), but since its more than 8 weeks, theyll expedite my claim. Guess what, expedite or not, my claim is still in limbo somewhere. Very disappointed with how Rheem handles customer claim. No wonder no contractor in my area wants to work with Rheem. People, please dont buy Rheem, not worth it when you have to be hold 45 minutes on the phone with them or call them every month to check on your warranty claim just to hear the same excuse.

I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didnt like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund. In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? I replaced my water heater with a 50 gallon propane unit after my previous water heater failed. I dont recall which brand was replaced but it had been trouble free for years before the bottom rusted out. The new unit started having hot water consistently issues and because the warranty department said they were out of stock on replacement control valves which troubleshooting identified as the problem. I was authorized to get a new replacement water heater from HomeDepot. Within a year, the water temperature stopped holding. Warranty sent a new control valve. This took care of the problem for several months until it repeated. This time they wanted me to contact a repair company to verify there were not external issues like low propane pressure, water supply issues, etc. All checked out and they sent me a new control valve. 7 months later, and the problem repeats! I called again, got transferred and put into a queue with a half hour delay and hung up in frustration. Ill call again when I have more time but I have lost all confidence in this brand. When I had asked a previous service support tech at Rheem about the issue, he said they were getting the parts out of Mexico and chuckled.

After 37 minutes on hold I was told that a licensed Rheem professional would contact me within 24 hours to schedule a time when he could come verify the leak for himself. Now day 2 of no water heater and no call. Stay away from Rheem and Home Depot.

I replaced my Rheem water heater less than 6 months ago and I have no hot water. Trying to get a contractor to my home to fix it is awful. I reported the claim on Monday and its Thursday. Contractor never has time. My previous Rheem water heater before replacing it, consistently having problems with upper and/or lower element. MFG kept sending contractor to fix rather than replace the unit. Because so much time passed in the process, the warranty ran out and I had to pay out of pocket towards the new one. And, as mentioned, its not even 6 months old and here we go again. Horrible product/horrible service!

Alright, so after having bought a home (Spring, 2017) My water Heater start
Alright, so after having bought a home (Spring, 2017) My water Heater started failing (which was okay with me, its a new house, things fail, it was still under warranty, but I wanted longer showers). So, I bought a new one. Within 3 days, the water heater failed, knocked out my power, and began leaking from the electrical components. Yep. So, I called, and emailed, to get it replaced. After having spent a non-consecutive time span of 15 hours on hold between Rheem and Home Depot, I was continuously growing more and more frustrated. FINALLY, a poor customer service girl, who spent around 45 minutes of her day at Home Depot, had to jump through about a thousand hoops--2 months later. Yep, because of these people, I had been 2 months without hot water, and all of the fun that that brings (YAY!). That was over two weeks ago.Two days ago, I received my new water heater--sorta. They botched the delivery. It was supposed to be delivered to my house, but instead, they shipped it to Home ** Depot, so I had to scramble out of work, and go pick up the thing--did I mention it was delivered a day late? On my work Monday, and I do not work in an industry where you can just pick up and go. I open the box to find, a dent about the size of a baseball, or so--but it gets better. The box was undamaged. They had to ship it in this condition, knowingly. I have emailed them, I have tried calling them, but I have yet to hear back.I am appalled, by this level of unprofessionalism, and lack of quality oversight. And after reading the preceding reviews, I can assure anyone who reads this, that Rheem will never, ever receive any of my business, ever again, and I do not understand why anyone would give them theirs. Go for GE, or Westinghouse, or something else and save yourself the trouble; at least their products sometimes work, and their staff has the decency to at least lie to you.

First of all, because this is a new tank, the parts are not available in stores or from suppliers. And of course it always works out that things quit on a Thursday or Friday. That said after a misdiagnosis they sent me a part that worked for one day then quit but being the person I am, I dug farther and found that what they said was broken and the part that was broken were two different things. They sent me the assembly for the igniter, the problem was a cheap weld job on the circuit board. A piece fell off and I resoldered it which fixed the problem but created another. They wont send me a new part under warranty as I modified it in their words. I never heard such a crack but anything to not have to warranty something. Moral of the story is buy a reputable brand with parts that can be purchased off the shelf. When youre out a thousand bucks and have no hot water, youll remember this if you buy what I bought. Model XG50S09EC40B0 by Rheem and I bought mine from Home Depot. They had no parts and offered no solutions.

Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater
Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater that I bought had the element go out twice. The first time they came and repaired it. Now the heater was only 6 months old on the first repair. After that not even a month passed and the element went out again with water also leaking everywhere. So after that on the third visit they notice that the element was not screwed in right causing it to leak again. They replace it with a newer model that was going to be better but my luck, one week into it and eco goes out. They send the part. Had to wait a week for it just for the repairman to put it on and now my breaker is jumping. The repairman then tells me thats its probably my breaker. Hint my breaker had never jumped having the first water heater. So technically the repair did an incomplete job because I still have no hot running water. Now customers services doesnt want to deal with my wife. It is up to you if you think its worth buying this product. But I will never buy from them again. Not worth dealing with the repair people and their customers services. Best of luck if you buy.

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem
I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

Purchased a water heater 5/26/20 and it stopped working within 10 months. Called company and they stated that a part in water heater was faulty and they would replace it. They sent me an e-mail that I was able to pay up to $450 for product and installation. Needless to say, the contractors that I spoke to, laughed at that amount. Plus, I could not get any of their contractors out for at least another 2-5 days. I called back and spoke with a supervisor who said I could take it back to store and get replacement. I told her I did not have receipt but I did purchase date and product registration. She said that would not be a problem because they have the ability to look that up in their system. The store only prorated the product. I called again and spoke to another supervisor, Mike #**. I told him that the price difference it ended up costing me was $65.42. He said they would not be able to reimburse me because I didnt have original receipt. I told him that the supervisor I talked to previously said it would not cost me anything. I exchanged the water heater for the EXACT same water heater and they would not reimburse me that difference. Their product did not last 10 months and they obviously do not care about their customers. They do not back up their products. DO NOT BUY!!!
