I had a new water tank installed about a year ago. Recently the gas control valve failed (a known factory defect, per Rheem authorized dealers). I incurred an almost $400 labor bill to repair it. Was on hold for an hour and Rheem refused to offer any reimbursement for the labor. DONT BUY RHEEM! I have NEVER had a valve fail at all, let alone this quickly, on hot water heaters from other manufacturers. Would rate Rheem 0 stars if I could for both their responsiveness and customer experience.

We bought ten of the direct vent models for our 10 apartments and they turned out to be the worst nightmare we got into. Everyone has failed either with hard lockout or leaking at the drain valve. Their technical support is always looking to deflect the fault to installation, venting or something else. Their use a plastic pipe for drain valve which cracks and leaks. We was on the phone every other day to asked for support. Some of the techs came to their sense and request brass drain valves, many of them just insisted on sending the same plastic valve again. They never tested these drain valves. Everyone has a hairline crack which leaks out water making a mess. Every time this happens, it takes them a couple of days to send replacement. After I gave a scathing review on their website, they quit talking to me. I now pledge to make sure consumers do not buy these direct vent heaters again from Rheem. Please avoid at all costs!

Yesterday we contacted Rheem regarding one of their hot water tanks that was only installed in April 2015, due to a loud bang then started leaking from the bottom. They authorized a replacement since was way under the Warranty Period. So far we were happy with the outcome. It wasnt UNTIL we took the defective tank back to Home Depot where it was originally purchased. First of all, they had no clue as to what they were doing, couldnt find our receipt even though was purchased with their CC and finally did NOT even do an even exchange. They charged us the difference from what was paid in April 2015 and what the price of the tank is NOW. Their reasoning behind this is the tank that was purchased in 2015 is NO LONGER manufactured so we had to get the one compatible to it. FIRST off, is it my fault the Hot Water Tank which was less than a year old went! SECONDLY, again is it my fault the original tank is NO LONGER manufactured! We proceeded to contact Rheem today regarding this issue, at which time they advised they have NO control how Home Depot processes Rheems defective merchandise/warranties or their prices. I was shocked and told the Customer Service Rep so. How can a company offer a warranty and NOT FULLY honor it. This should have been an even exchange regardless. I could understand if we wanted to upgrade or purchase larger. This was the only tank that was available.

Rheem and Richmond are of the same company. They make the worst water heaters on the planet. Junk. I have been through 4 water heaters in 3 years. I kept buying Rheem and Richmond because they fit perfectly and they were the cheapest. All I could afford at the time but I would pay again next year when I had to buy another one. Finally three years 4 water heaters later I bought an American made one!Do not by Rheem or Richmond. If you do I promise in less than a year you will be installing a new one and their warranty is a joke. 3-year warranty. None of mine lasted three years and I couldnt get anything replaced, fixed, refunded. Horrible customer service. Buy any other brand than this. Save yourself the hassle. Spend a little bit more money and get a good brand. Im so sick of replacing hot water heaters. I hate that company. They know its going to break in a year and youll have to buy another one. I was foolish enough to keep doing that. Never again. I will not buy anything Rheem or Richmond for the as long as I live.

We purchased a home three years ago, and the previous owners had put in a new water heater the year before. It has a 6 year warranty on it and we are 4 years into it. The water heater failed today. When we contacted RHEEM, they said that the warranty follows the owner. WHAT??? This was definitely a ridiculous and clear way of avoiding the warranty, while not standing behind their product. I have had a hot water heater from Rheem for under 2 years now and first my pilot light and igniter went out. I thought nothing of it. I continued to relight the pilot light and it worked. After about a 2 weeks or so I was down in my basement and smelt gas. I was alarmed I called Elizabeth Town Gas, and they told me to evacuate my house. I did. With that being said I found out that the tubing coupling was sliced. I called Rheem for replacement parts. First they sent out the pilot light igniter. Now that we know that the coupling is sliced we called Rheem and it has been a week for them to ship out this part. I live on the East Coast, where Rheem is located, there has been no tracking number. The replacement part is in stock, says one of the assistants from the call center. But still no replacement part. With two kids and one parent this is tough on me. Working multiple jobs and coming home to no hot water to bathe and any household chores. This has been a struggle.

This is to anyone who is considering a RHEEM hot water heater. I just purchased the 50 gallon 40K BTU unit and I have had no luck getting it to ignite. I called the service number and they told me it was a faulty igniter. They gave me an option to have it overnighted or look for it locally. I found the part locally but they told me to check the igniter out of casing first because they usually dont fail. Long story short it was not the igniter. Through a secondary check the RHEEM tech figured out it was the entire gas control box. I now have to wait for 2-3 business days for the entire assembly. I just paid $600 from HD and my family has no hot water for 4 days! ITS A TOTAL JOKE. DONT BUY THEIR JUNK!

Installed 50 gallons Richmond hot water heater. Electrical power supply did not work from start. Waited 2 days for new power supply cord which should have been replaced by service technician since it was clearly a faulty part. Power supply lasted about 10 days before it went out again. Now waiting for a service tech to replace the same power supply I did a few weeks ago. The bigger question is why is the power supply going out in the first place? Never again will I get any Richmond or Rheem product.

I bought a 40 gal Rheem SHORTY electric heater from Home Depot. Installed it and it tripped the breaker about 6 hours after I turned it on. I discovered that, on the lower element one wire was pushed onto the other contact during manufacture. I separated the two wires and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then I noticed the breaker tripped again, I reset it and about 3 min later I smelled electrical burning, we all know the smell. Opened the crawl space door to see the whole side of the heater engulfed in flames. Ran and got my kitchen extinguisher and dove under the house to get it put out. After literally 58 minutes waiting on hold, Rheems answer was they would refund my money on the heater.

I have a Rheem Water Heater and a valve went out. The service tech had to order a replacement part. After talking to the people from Rheem about my shipping information, I was told it would take 2-3 days to get the part. Okay fine. Then I get the FedEx notification and it is a week till the estimated delivery date. What happen to 2-3 days? I called the help number and come to find out that I could have overnight the stupid part for a small fee and had hot water in a couple of days instead of over a week, but the guy processing the order the first time failed to mention that option to me. Needless to say the part is now overnight but since it was a Friday afternoon it wont go out till Monday so when the thing finally comes in and can be installed it will be 5 days since the service tech got out there to begin with to get the hot water heater running. Seriously what are these people thinking, you as a homeowner dont want hot water in winter for more than a week.

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

When this water heater started not working properly, after 5 years, with a 12 year warranty, Rheem made it VERY DIFFICULT and time consuming to get through their phone systems (hold times of 30+ minutes and no answer) to set up appointments, months have gone by. Rheem plumbers have been out twice, Rheem has not fixed the water heater, and now say we need to disconnect and return to Home Depot to get a credit. This would cost hundreds to have a plumber come do this, and in addition HD says they dont have this model number so we can not return it there. No use to have a 12 year warranty that doesnt actually help at all. What a rip off, Dont buy Rheem!

Finally after a week of no hot water and your customer service department playing games and the service company you referred playing games, we were able to get a new hot water heater. With that said, that hot water heater has been leaking since day one. I called and they sent me out a replacement part but, still it is leaking. I then called in today and spoke to a miserable supervisor named, Shakir.I called to get service along with request that my warranty that will expire in March be extended. He was rude and to the point of advising no and that he will get the service company out. For 2 hot water heaters to go in less than a 9 month period. What is that saying about your product. Also not extending the warranty even shows your own company doesnt stand behind its own product. Unbelievable! I will never purchase anything with your name attached to anything again!

I bought a Rheem water heater 3 weeks ago. Installation went well. But then the pilot light went out the next morning. I restarted it right away. After 1-3 days it keeps going out. It never stays lit. I called Rheem - they told me that they would replace it or fix it. They told me to get a plumber to come out. The plumber called up Rheem and told them that everything was hooked up properly but it is not working correctly - that it needs to be replaced. They told them that there was a tiny leak in the water that they tighten and fixed instantly but it had nothing to do with the problem. Rheem told them that it is not covered now because there was a water leak. I cant even begin to tell you how small this leak was. It was nothing. Rheem was just looking for any excuse not to replace it. They are such a joke.I would never buy another Rheem - I would never recommend one. My plumber kept telling them that the water had nothing to do with why this is not working. But they didnt care. They told me to go buy another one. Horrible customer service. Horrible product. Stay away from Rheem. Even my plumber told me that I should have read more reviews - most of their repairs are for Rheem.

Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing
Purchased GE ULTRA LOW NO x 6 Year Gas Water Heater, by Rheem Manufacturing from Home Depot in Modesto, Ca. First problem was at 1 & 1/2 years after purchase. Upon inspection of PG&E I was told Thermocouple had to be replaced and most likely it was a faulty part and or product (Not knowing about the hundreds of complaints similar of mine). The part was replaced at my expense. One year later the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th problems occurred (3 times in 5 months). Upon inspecting a LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND in my hall area, we discover the pilot light is no longer lit on the GAS WATER HEATER. Initially there are problems in re-lighting it but fortunately it has re-lit.It then came to mind to begin searching for this products recall. Not as easy of a task and I continue my search for a recall, but in the process I have found this water heater is no longer sold by Home Depot; every review was bad with most stating the thermocouple having to be replaced within the first two years, and this product has been discontinued. The GE Appliance website states this model is no longer being manufactured. And it is no wonder. What I am curious about is what it takes for a product to be recalled because from what I have researched it is the opinion of hundreds that this water heater is junk, a hassle to deal with the continuous problems, very costly. I pray not, although I fear the explosive sound could be a danger or deadly. If I could I would most definitely purchase another water heater but I am currently disabled, living on a limited income that I cannot even make it on each month. Therefore I pray for our safety and that the water heater does not have any further problems. As I have written this complaint, I have to GE as well. And Ill continue to seek a recall for this product. MY ADVISE, DO NOT BUY A GE WATER HEATER MANUFACTURED BY RHEEM!

I bought a GE/Rheem 40-gal. power vent hot water heater in June of 2009, Model # GG40T06PVK00, and last week it quit. AB lights on. I turned it off for 10 minutes, turned it back on and watched through the window. I watched the igniter turn red and the gas turned on the burner, lit for a second or two and a click and it shut down and recycled and lit again, this time staying on. This has happened 2 more times. I had an A.O. Smith power vent for 10 years and the only reason I replaced it was because I didnt want to spend $175 on the new power vent that was coming apart. The heater still looked and worked great. My GE/Rheem is just 3 years old and you never know if you will have hot water or not.

Rheem gas hot water heater was purchased new in December 2020. Mid August 2021 the heater stopped all functions. 70 minutes in line behind 61 other callers with technical support people. New, replacement gas valve was shipped and arrived very very promptly. New valve arrived broken. Service tech was scheduled to arrive five days after initial heater failure from 105 miles away. After considering all of this we decided to hire our own service technician, a local plumber, who promptly repaired the Rheem gas water heater. The cost to us for repair, out of pocket, was nearly the same as the original price of the water heater. Needless to say we couldnt possibly be more disappointed. We built a new house in 2013. Our Rheem 50 gallon water heater is only 8 years old but of course, this happens right after the warranty is expired. We finished our basement about a year ago. Thanks to this water heater failing, we now have to replace not just the water heater, but all of our beautiful new hardwood flooring, the carpet in the bedroom and some of the drywall. Original water heater = $1,000. New water heater = $1,000. Homeowners insurance deductible = $1,000. Time off from work to remove everything from the basement to pull up the flooring = $840. Total cost of owning this thing = $3,840. Steer clear, folks.

They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. What a joke.

I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. Our problem of no hot water started in June of 2011 and we continue to have this problem. Tankless water heater would work for few weeks then start flashing error code 11 or 12 on the monitor, and no hot water. This issue continued on and off for a while and now, it has gotten worst. Weve contacted Rheem customer care several times and each time, they all seem to tell us different reason for our problem. It really is a challenge trying to see if we will have hot water each day. Just recently, Rheem representative told my husband the gas line pipe is the wrong size. Thats not true because weve already checked the line, valve, gas flow, etc. They dont know what the heck they are talking about. They must read the problem manual given to them when they were hired. Weve also had Rheem authorize repairer looked at it. They have no idea what or how to fix this problem. Between Rheem customer care and Rheem authorized repairer, I dont know which one is worse because they are just one sorry ** after another. My husband and I are seriously thinking about switching back to the good, old-fashion water heater because we never had any problem with it. When our friends talk about installing tankless water heater, we tell them dont get Rheem tankless water heater because it sucks!

My basement flooded nearly three years ago. I had to replace the water heater down there. I know you buy a Rheem Platinum Performance because Home Depot said it was the best. Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. How does that work/ Dont buy a Rheem unless you want a low quality product that the company wont cover when it is broken. In my case there was a real chance of a house fire. Be Warned!

This is the 2 Rheem 360 gallon hot water heater model G65-360-1 that has leaked in less than 5 years. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best. Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem wont give us a refund. Be aware they have problems. Avoid a Rheem or any of their other products. A Wood heater will last years without problems, ask your plumber before you buy not the experts at the Home Improvement stores. They are going to sell you what they make the most margin on. Not what is going to be the best.

Found it was a crimped wire when we installed a replacement part they sent us.We have had not real hot water since the installation. Apparently the model XE50T12EC55UO re-positions itself to OFF every time there is power disruption. We live in an area that the energy company has the ability to shut off your hot water tank to save energy as well as have power failures. This means we HAVE to reset our water tank every time or we have no hot water. When we spoke to customer service, we were told that is how the tank works and we should have done our homework before buying the tank - No one expect that from a hot water tank!

We moved into our new place in 2012 and a month later the Rheem gas hot water heater blew its side. We were relieved to find it was under warranty but it still cost us $600 to have the new unit installed. One month less than 5 years, the HW heater blew its side again flooding our basement. I called Rheem and they told me there is no warranty on this unit since it was already a warranty replacement. I tried demanding a better solution than that but the person hung up on me and I never heard back from them despite numerous attempts.I have a family of 6 and need hot water so I had to get a new unit a.s.a.p. It cost $2000 all in. I am livid that such a huge company cant back up their products. When they realize you have had issues with their product the first thing you hope to hear from them is Sorry youre having trouble with our products, Sir. Lets take a look at how we can fix this situation not We already gave you a new one. I thought you should get at least 10 years from a heater? Not impressed Rheem! You should be ashamed! Profit over people!

I installed a Rheem 40 gal gas hot water heater on Monday June 7. It would not stay lit. I had the local gas company come out and check the output of the gas meter on the house and then at the heater itself. Everything checked out ok so on Friday, June 11, only 4 days after buying the unit, I called the technical helpline at Rheem. Caitlyn diagnosed the problem as probably being either the thermal coupler or the gas valve and that Rheem would send out the parts. The problem was it would be 4 to 5 business days. Thats now an additional week without hot water on a tank which has been installed for less than a week. Expediting the order will cost me for the additional shipping expenses. I waited on hold with the shipping department for a half hour without anyone answering before hanging up and buying the parts locally. I will never buy another Rheem part because they dont stand behind their products.

6 years ago, I purchased a RHEEM water heater from Home Depot which lasted only 3 years with only two in the household. June 18, 2015, I purchased an American Standard from a private retailer after researching the best water heater to purchase which also lasted only 3 years. It was a terrible, stressful ordeal with both companies. Rheem and American Standard each sent parts for their 6 year warranty stretching two weeks until Im stressed to the point of purchasing a new one because none of the parts solved the problem. Apparently this is what these companies count on... the customer getting fed up to the point we choose to buy another water heater for $800 every 3 years in exchange for a hot shower!!! I am a single parent working part time for LAUSD on summer break with $766 to my name. There goes our summer savings... again. Time to try another company. Im convinced all are the same... they may last 3 years with if youre lucky. Its like pulling teeth to get them to honor the warranty, and you will not get a replacement without spending a ton of money for a licensed professional in the process, which is why Im buying another brand. The water heater I had when I moved here lasted approximately 12 years with no problems. Old school. They dont make them like they used to. See you all in 3 years.

One week before water heater warranty expired, it had problems. Did some troubleshooting, and determined that most likely, the upper element had burned out. Called their customer service, and thats when things got ugly. Gave first person the model/serial numbers and was transferred to their technical service line. Wait time: 86 minutes! Well, what ya gonna do? So I waited...after 1-1/2 hours, I got a technician; explained the issue and was then informed that I had been connected to the GAS water heater line. The first person had transposed two numbers of my serial number and sent me to the wrong line. Seriously. Said I had to transfer to electric queue. Transferred me. Wait time: 84 minutes! Oh, no...not doing that dance again. Hung up and dialed back in. Got to their first level again - explained problem and requested assistance. Was assured I could be transferred to electric tech line and would be bumped up in the queue. Transferred. Wait time: 88 minutes! Seriously? Hung up again and called back. Again. Received immediate message that they were closed. At 10 minutes before 8:00. So much for their Assistance available 24/7 sticker on the water heater. So now, I will have to call back...again...and waste 2 hours...again...all just to get a new heating element sent to me. Ridiculous.

We bought a Rheem 50-gallon water heater in January. In August, the unit failed on a Sunday. Since the tag said so not return to place of purchase, I waited until Monday to call Rheem. Rheem said disconnect, drain, and return to store. They said we would be responsible for any difference in cost from initial purchase to replacement purchase. We had to pay $150 difference in price to get new water heater under warranty rules and $150 for plumber to install. That is not a warranty. A 6-year water heater should not break in middle after 6-months.

My house came with a Rheem water heater. It was 5 yrs old when we moved in, after 3 year it started to leak and corrode around the top. We replaced it with another Rheem in 2013 brand new. In 2016 it failed, just stopped working. I called the plumber who installed it. He said nothing he can do so I called Rheem. They said I need to check it with a multimeter? The guy told me to go buy one. I asked my plumber who got on the phone and he somehow got them to replace the water heater, but I have to purchase another warranty.Five hundred and fifty dollars later to be installed it was working but not as hot as our last one. Then one year later 2017 it stops working again. My plumber is disabled and retired, so I call Rheem and after being on hold for hours they tell me again to get a multimeter to check whats wrong. If is electronics or an element they can tell me how to replace it. First of all, my parents had water heaters for 40 years. These only last for year? Im no electrician, Im not taking apart a water heater and fixing this junk! Im done buying anything from this bottom feeder. That is why they are in the home improvement stores. They are junk!

They don’t stand behind their product! Totally shotty product. Our experiences have been problems start within the first year to year and a half. That shouldn’t be happening. Yes, your ‘parts’ may be covered as they are with most water heaters professionally put in, but remember, you’ll be paying labor for a plumber to put them in each and every time! Once you’ve bought it, I guarantee you (with few exceptions) you will encounter problems.

Rheem purchased 10/2014. First call started Spring 2015. Pilot light kept going out. Get up to go to work - cold water. Called Rheem warranty number which by the way are the most dismissive, unfriendly and disrespectful customer service employees l have ever spoken with. Their CEO and CFO should really try using their customer service department. My first call the employee said it must be dust or dirt. l ask why this never happened to my old less expensive water unit - no answer. Months later same pilot problem - doesnt stay lit. Second call girl tells me it cant be the unit. l must have a gas leak or something about cubic feet of air in my garage. She told me l would need to call my local Pacific Gas and Electric Company which l did. Everything was good . NO GAS LEAKS and heater was in a space off the ground, with plenty of cubic ft. Third call l get a male employee. By now my unit is going out 2-3 times a week. He was the rudest one yet. They are sending me a new pilot ignition part, still not received. However even under warranty, its up to me to find a contracted Rheem plumber. They couldnt even recommend someone to call. l ended up calling Home Depot which gave me a local number. If l was a buyer for Home Depot l would stop all purchases of any Rheem water heaters from my own experience along with all these other reviews. Home Depot is too respected of a company to sell this poorly made product, with employees who could care less about your customers. Please dont purchase a rheem heating/ac unit. I purchased a Rheem unit in November 2014 and my ac unit has already gone out twice this summer. I have been dealing with this problem since April through August 2016. I have had an ac tech person come to my residence on several occasion trying to find out why my ac unit doesnt hold the freon that was put in come to find out it was leaking freon in the coil; the ac tech guy ordered a new coil which I had to pay for the shipping cost and after installation on the new coil it still leaked freon only at a faster level. The freon would go out after 24 hours of being put in the system.I spent a $3500 on this unit only to be a piece of junk, save yourself the time and trouble on the product and dont buy at all. I have already emailed the company they called but no return call at this time. I dont understand why Consumer Affairs doesnt have this product or company pay for the problems it is causing if you read the reviews many people are going through the same problem. This company should not be selling products at all they are already in trouble for selling faulty water heaters.

We had our Rheem water heater installed less than a month ago and we recently noticed an awful smell in our hot water. We are on a well and do not chlorinate our water. We do have an iron reduction filter and water softener and have never experienced a bad odor to our hot water. We had to call the plumber out to look at the water heater because of the odor being so bad and were told that we needed to replace the anode rod to eliminate the smell. The anode rod that came in the water heater was not intended for well water. We tried contacting Rheem to see if this could be processed through our warranty and we were told it was not a defect in the product. It may not be a defect, but this product was not advertised correctly. Nowhere does this product say For Chlorinated Water. I am very disappointed in this product and this manufacturer for not advertising their product in a way that allows a consumer on a well to make the best decision for their home. We had our previous water heater for over 15 years with no odor in our water. Customer Service told us we can replace the anode rod and will probably have to do it quite often, or we can completely remove it and the water heater will not last as long. He also said we could add a chlorination system to our water, but all the options he listed are at our cost. I will never purchase a Rheem water heater or any other product with their name on it ever again.

I had a Rheem water heater in my new house, only 3 1/2 years old. It ended up being defective and needing replacement. It was very difficult getting any assistance in replacing it. I found a plumber to assist with the installation. I found the wholesaler where my builder purchased the water heater. After 9 months dealing with the wholesaler, I finally was able to get a water heater. I paid the plumber $550.00 for installation, knowing that Rheem would likely cut me a check for this cost. Found out, Rheem was going to let me eat this cost. I would not have incurred this cost if it were NOT for a defective water heater. I was told by a Rheem representative that this cost is not in the warranty. Sorry but very poor business. I will not purchase or recommend any Rheem products because of this.

First of all, because this is a new tank, the parts are not available in stores or from suppliers. And of course it always works out that things quit on a Thursday or Friday. That said after a misdiagnosis they sent me a part that worked for one day then quit but being the person I am, I dug farther and found that what they said was broken and the part that was broken were two different things. They sent me the assembly for the igniter, the problem was a cheap weld job on the circuit board. A piece fell off and I resoldered it which fixed the problem but created another. They wont send me a new part under warranty as I modified it in their words. I never heard such a crack but anything to not have to warranty something. Moral of the story is buy a reputable brand with parts that can be purchased off the shelf. When youre out a thousand bucks and have no hot water, youll remember this if you buy what I bought. Pilot issues, part will take 2 -4 days to get here. Already been without hot water 2 full days. Long waits on customer service lines, nobody cares. Worst company and product ever! I will NEVER again deal with Rheem products or furthermore Home Depot for installs either. Do yourself a favor. Stay away from both of these places and go with an actual plumbing company that does tank installs and provides the warranty!!!

There are lots of problems at the start. Finally, it was fixed after Rheem sent a man from the home office. it worked for four years then went to heck. The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.

Hands down the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they cant even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didnt receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak Im literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

Bought new water heater Tuesday, got the 9 year warranty. Guess what, new water heater doesnt work. Friday called toll free number see if warranty would cover parts that need to be replaced and work. Rheem calls back to inform us that we live too far away from a tech to send one. That we would have to call the plumber ourselves and pay for all work. We then send the invoice to Rheem and they decide if they will reimburse us for it, but only up to $125.

From reading the other reviews this seems the consensus with hot water heater by Rheem. I wish I would have read these before my purchase. I purchased and installed the hot water heater on a Friday in January 2021. Followed the instructions and waited the amount of time for the water to heat. It game hot water for about 5 minutes and then continued to blink and indicate re-heating. Called the company that it states on the side of the water heater and the person I talked to was less than accommodating. I have contacted a plumber to come and look at the water heater that is failing to heat. Do not buy this product. With every purchase there is a possible issue that consumers must deal with BUT customer service should follow.

Rheem he80-130n commercial water heater - I own a restaurant in Phoenix and your water heater was nothing but trouble for me. Its a real hunk of junk. The unit was very expensive to begin with and was only 2 years old when the first igniter went out. Now, when the unit was 3 and a half years old, the igniter went out again and blew the main board. We replaced blown igniter again and blown board again. The plumber I had working on it said the unit was poorly designed. I cant believe what a hunk of junk this unit is. On top of that, I could not buy parts on the west coast. I had to have them shipped next day from Boston. It really is bad business to have a product that you cant even get parts for. A restaurant cant run without hot water, so it needs to be easy to repair. But to only last for 3 years and cost $6,000 is totally unacceptable. That I put $900 in parts and the unit still only worked for a couple of days is crap! So I had to take your unit out and replace it with another one, which cost me a lot of time and money ($5,000). It also caused my business to suffer from having to close kitchen because of your faulty product design. You would think for all that money this unit would work much better than it does. For the igniter to blow and destroy the motherboard, that’s a poor design. I believe your company should refund me part of the cost of the unit for it being such a piece of crap, or at least for the parts that I purchased and the labor to install them. Just an extremely unhappy customer!

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in November 2018. Immediately after installation I got an error message that the lower temperature sensor was damaged. I called Rheem immediately. After more than 3 weeks and more than 5 phone calls they still cant get a technician to fix the problem (I live in Portland, Oregon).Last phone call they said to me that they got a technician in Buffalo NY. When I told them, for third time, that I live in Oregon, the person decided to escalate the ticket to her supervisor. This guy (supervisor) send me a list with technicians who work in the area where I live. I called the first person in the list. He said to me that he does not work with Rhemm (!!) Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call scam company. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the stress that Ive been going through. Today is December 23rd. Christmas with no hot water. Our family purchased a Rheem water heater in September of 2018. November 30, 2019 it quit working!! We had a plumber out, not knowing what was wrong. After 4 hours of working on it/talking on the phone with Rheem representatives, it was determined that the thermocouple/starter unit would need to be replaced. We were told our part would be shipped out that night! Today, December 4 we received an email that the part was JUST SHIPPED today!! We won’t have water for 2 more days. Pretty tough for a family of 6!!!Rheem replacement parts are not carried by plumbing companies. We also had 4 companies refuse to work on the Rheem water heater, saying they avoid the products! Poorly made product and even worse customer service! We will NEVER purchase another product from this company and we intend to share with all of our friends as well!!

I bought a gas water heater at Home Depot by Rheem about 1 1/2 year ago. It failed, Rheem labels the water heater not to take the water heater back to Home Depot but, to troubleshoot the problem thru the phone with them, after they “think” they know what the problem is, they mail you parts for you as a customer, replace them (like the customer is a plumber or a technician). It didnt work the first time, troubleshooting thru the phone again, now they thought they knew what the problem is, send another part, replace it. It worked for 2 month, and failed again. Call a third time, troubleshoot, then they authorized to take the water heater back to Home Depot for a partial credit... after everything you have to go thru, not having hot water for 2 weeks, paying a plumber for all the labor, taking the water heater back to Home Depot. It’s a very disappointing way of dealing with this kind of help from this company.

Very displeased with Rheem warranty experience. My water heater burned up and it was a part of a warranty claim. I called and was sent an email and opened up original case where I sent pictures of my burnt up water heater (which I still have my pictures) which this water heater was 4 years old and a part of a recall. After I sent in the pictures I had talked to a lady in regards to getting the pictures. She mentioned that it was really bad and Rheem was going to send me an email so then I can go to Home Depot and find an equivalent water heater at no charge. But when I called in the next day no one had any clue what I was talking about and sent me an email but they started a new case. Which is really odd they would give me a new case number... they must have gave me a new case number since they didn’t want help out with a recalled product. The second case number I got the email that mentioned I am now getting a new part instead of getting a new electric water heater. I have yet to see this supposed part that was issued. There is no way anyone can go this long without a water heater... literally 1 1/2 months. I am truly disappointed with the customer service and time it is taking for this to get taken care of. I had to go out and buy a brand new water heater because I couldn’t wait that long for the part to come in and this was issued 4/28... I had to spend over $600 dollars on this new unit as well as a $250 labor charge for them to remove and replace the new unit. It is pretty sad because when I first sent the picture I was told that because it was burnt up badly that I should be getting an email in regards to an approval to go to Home Depot and find an equivalent one at no charge. But when I called since I didn’t receive the email on the approval to go to Home Depot to get an equivalent one. I called then a new case easy wrote up and they were supposed to send a part. I am very unhappy with the customer service since pretty much nothing has been done to get this fixed fast enough done. This went out 4/23... and it is now 6/15 and I still have not gotten any response back from Rheem. No one ever get Rheem product since they are not helpful at all. This needs to get straightened out because there is no help at all because I am out a lot of money to get this taken care of when Rheem should have taken care of a majority of the expense.

Our water heater was professionally installed in May 2011. Last month the unit started leaking. I pulled out the paperwork and went online to verify the warranty. According to their warranty verification site, the warranty was valid through 6/11/2024. I called the Rheem customer service line (800-432-8373) and spoke to someone that confirmed that the warranty was valid. He said I needed to have a plumber look at the unit first and he gave me the name of a plumber that I could use. I paid $140 for him to come out and he confirmed that the unit was properly installed and the heat exchanger was leaking. I called Rheem back on 6/26/15 and the customer service agent (Scott, who was very nice) asked some basic questions including Were you the homeowner at the time the unit was installed? I bought the house one year ago. He then told me that because I was not the owner of the home when it was installed, the warranty was not valid.I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me was the one in charge. I asked to speak to his manager and he took my information and told me he would have him call me but no one ever did. I sent an email to Rheems customer service center and again got no response. As a result, I have had to pay $1,975 to buy a new tankless water heater and have it installed. To make matters worse, I was forced to buy another Rheem as any other brand would have required additional costs to retrofit the piping to fit that product (according to the plumber that Rheem referred). I feel that the product failed after 4 years and this should have nothing to do with the fact that I bought the house 3 years after it was installed. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the new unit under the original warranty. I am also disappointed that Rheem did not respond to my request to speak to a manager or my email to their customer service center.

I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. Its leaking & cant be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesnt come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if theres a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they cant track down by your name only the model # & yes, thats right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

I replaced my old hot water tank with a Rheem energy efficient model Guardian System RHGPRO50-40F. Same size as my former tank. When I fill my bath tub the hot water turns lukewarm after a few minutes. The licensed installer told me that this is the way that all new energy efficient hot water tanks work and that the next person to run hot water for a bath or shower would not experience this. Seriously? His suggestion was to run some hot water about 20 minutes before I filled the bath tub and when filling the bath to only turn the hot water faucet on the bath 1/2 way. I tried that and the temperature of the water continued to decrease. So I have to stand by the tub as it fills constantly checking the water temperature and turning down the cold water to maintain the water temperature. I have turned up the temperature on the hot water heater to almost max. That had not solved the issue. I have tried to get this addressed or get an answer from someone and even asked if perhaps I needed a larger tank with no luck. If it is indeed working as designed how can they call this an energy efficient hot water heater when I have to waste water and keep the water at a much higher temperature than I did with the one that was not energy efficient and it was able to fill my bath tub.

I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now Im reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. Im taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water. The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. Its another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water
The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water heater has no way to prevent a toddler or incidental contact from adjusting the dial. This is a huge red flag for me where it can easily be turned to the max temperature and can lead to burns. I called Rheem to see if they have a cover or anything that can limit access to the controls and was told that this is not a safety concern or a manufacturer defect and there is nothing that they will do to resolve the concern. I assume it is my 18 month old daughter that is playing with the dial, turning it to the maximum temperature setting, but it could as easily be changed by something inadvertently rubbing on the dial. My home was built in the 70s and the water heater is located in the laundry room, not in a dedicated closet, so it does have more open access than newer homes with dedicated utility closets. Regardless, this is currently a significant safety concern for me and my wife.

Bought it in April of 2017. Called up and registered the warranty the day it was installed, gave all information and documentation I was asked for. Died on Nov 1 2018, called the number on the water heater, was told the labor warranty was expired but parts were in warranty so theyd send the part, got the part on Tuesday, got it installed and still got 7 flashing red lights, so called back on Wednesday, the second tech I talked to on Wednesday said two failures of the same part were considered a complete failure. Id have to bring the water heater back to point of purchase and theyd replace it. As we talked she offhandedly mentions that it had a 9 yr part warranty and a 2 yr labor warranty (since Id been told it was out of warranty I was under impression that the labor was 1 yr) and that the labour had expired in August. I told her I had purchased it in April, she had me email the receipt and serial number to another email. That night I got an email that my warranty was updated and if I had any problems to call 800-432-8373, so first thing Thursday morning I called and they said theyd schedule a service technician to come replace it and Id be contacted within one business day with the name of the service tech and the appointment time. A short time later I got an email stating Thank you for contacting Rheem. A request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive a call within 1 business day, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Sat 8AM-8PM ET for further assistance. So, I dont hear anything further on Thursday, and I dont hear anything on Friday. So Friday night I tried to call but it was after 8 pm et, so I called again Saturday morning. I explained my situation and asked why I hadnt been contacted with any update within one business day like I was promised. The person I talked to (never Identified herself, but her manager said her name was Leah) told me that the techs dont dispatch service people, they created a ticket on Thursday which went to dispatch who created a rework ticket on Friday and its Saturday and Im talking to the person whose job it is to call the service people and schedule them and if Id let her do her job shed call and see if someone was available. She put me on hold and came back and said, Nobody is answering so theyre probably closed for the weekend. Ill call them on Monday and see if theyll come out, or I can give you a warranty claim number and you can do it yourself. Kind of ** since if your people hadnt been slow walking it and had contacted me on Friday LIKE PROMISED I could have called on Friday and had someone scheduled to work on Saturday or Sunday, but since its already Saturday I cant contact anyone until Monday. She then told me if theres nothing else shes hanging up. I had to stop her and ask to talk to a manager, who told me if I didnt want to wait until Monday for someone to be called she could give me a warranty claim number so I could call someone myself. She also said she had to defend Leahs behavior because she such a good and loyal employee and Leah was the only person who could possibly handle my claim. She also refused to admit that your company failed in any way in upholding your promise to contact me within one business day, telling me she understood why I would feel that way (without specifying what way I was feeling). Very well trained to be noncommittal. Cant think of another company thats given me such horrible customer service in the last decade.

I have the lowest pressure of all my neighbors and none of them have a thermal tank why should I, now, need one? They say if I install a thermal tank and it doesnt fix the problem that it is probably the water tank. What a piss poor company... Never again will I buy or allow a Rheem on my place!!!

I am a maintenance technician at a town home complex that had 30 Rheem power vent water heaters installed in them 4 years ago. Of the thirty heaters I have had to replace, 21 gas control valves, I have to call because they are under warranty yet. But our tenants have had to wait 7 days for the part to show up to fix the problem. Rheem knows they have a problem because after giving them the model and serial numbers from the I.D. plate, they send out a new valve. My issues are angry tenants because they have no hot water and I have received repair calls every day of the week, weekends and late in the evenings or very early in the mornings. I even had a replacement gas valve go bad so they have not fixed the problem from what I can see. The operator at the service center told me that I had already replaced a valve on a unit after he checked the serial number, and I told him he was right it was. Now we just built another 24 unit complex here and after begging the owners to not put these in they still put the exact units in here. All I can say is Rheem must give a big push to contractors to keep moving this brand.

For years I always trusted Rheem but after several weeks I have been trying to get help and no response. There are multiple people saying that the gas valve on the hot water heaters are bad. Its true. I called customer service and the girl put me on hold and waited for Rheem minutes. Never got a response. Dont buy Rheem.

Cant I get no stars? My water heater broke (leaking) after 5.8 years. It is still under Rheem warranty, so I called Rheem and they said I had to take the water heater back to where it was purchased to get credit or a replacement. I cant remember where it was purchase and I cannot even lift the water heater. My plumber is not willing to take the heater to where it was purchased without charging me the time which is substantial. So Rheem wont honor the warranty unless I bring the whole water heater, this makes no sense. In essence they are saying if I cant carry the water heater into the place it was purchased I can get reimbursed. What is that but a sham! I will never purchase a Rheem product again!

In late 2015 we purchased a Rheem water heater from Home Depot for a rental property. We paid a plumber to install it. After installation, the water heater made loud bangs after use. The plumber recommended running the water for a while to release air in the pipes. The water heater continued to bang until it eventually stopped working. We paid to have the plumber take it back to Home Depot for a replacement. We paid the plumber to install the new water heater, which banged as well. Reading in to the instructions further, we were advised to install an expansion tank. We bought the tank and again, paid a plumber to install it. This new water heater continued to bang!I finally called Rheem who admitted this was a manufacturers defect. They would send a local company out to move the pilot light closer to the burner. When I asked if they planned to reimburse us for our expenses they declined. When I asked why the water heaters are still on the floor at Home Depot their response was we dont have problems like this with all of them. When I spoke with the local company they sent out to move the pilot light I asked if they deal with issues like this often and they said All the time. I also asked Rheem if we could have a new water heater because I was worried that damage had already been done to the heater currently installed. They declined.

Rheem water heaters are very poor quality and you will end up with failures
Rheem water heaters are very poor quality and you will end up with failures way the life of the heater. It is made in Mexico and the parts break continually. I bought my gas water heater 12-30-2011 and in May of 2014 it failed. They recommended a repairman and he charged more than a new heater to fix it. The parts broke again a month later, same repairman came and changed multiple parts again (lucky no charge this time). Less than a month later, the parts failed again. Repairman came out and refused to replace the parts, said it wasnt up to code and theyd fail again. Wanted $2300 to put in a new one, yea right. Contacted GE whose label and they air freighted in new parts. Got a new plumber GE recommended and the guy put them in and couldnt get it to work, put in another one on the spot and still couldnt get it to work. Contacted them and got nowhere. DO NOT BUY ANY RHEEM PRODUCT OR GE. You will get ripped off and be writing in like I am. They are made in Mexico and the quality has suffered. All the repair people know about it. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Purchase gas water heater August 2020. May 2021 gas valve became faulty. They shipped one out (2-4 days) and finally had someone schedule to come out after 7 days with no hot water. They proceeded to tell me that the gas valves for this unit manufactured between April and October 2020 are faulty and are having all kinds of issues. I was assured that the one they replaced in May 2021 that the issue was fixed and I would not have this problem. Now it is December 2021 and the gas valve has broke again. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. Customer service is extremely rude and unhelpful and they do not care whether you’re out of hot water or not. All they do is make excuses. I will never purchased one of these again.
