Our old hot water heater went out about six months ago and we picked this brand because it is Eco friendly. It's very quiet and it heats the water much faster than our old heater. I had it professional installed. We have Union Carpenter & Plumbers in our family. It's nice to know it was done in a safe and timely manner. It is a bit taller than our old heater. As it was on a stand we had to removed some of the tiles in our garage. Now it looks nice and our neighborhood thinks everyone should get one for their homes. Whirlpool brand gas water heater BFG1F4040S3NOV - We purchased a gas water heater from Lowe's and had them install it in our home. It has operated okay until now. The pilot light went out and we could not get it to light and/or stay lit. We called in a plumber and received some bad news. He refused to even work on it. We were told this water heater was under a class action lawsuit. More bad news was yet to come. He told us the water heater was not even installed to code. We were not told about the asbestos pipe either. At this point, there is no resolution. I don't even know where to begin with this.Joy of Fort Worth, TX

This water heater was installed in my new home in October 2019. I've called a plumber 3 times since then due to the unit leaking. I've had the T&P valve replaced, which didn't help. I had to have the water heater replaced in May 2021. The warranty is useless. The water heater in my previous home lasted 20+ years. We own a mobile home park and rent homes. One of the homes had a Bradford White 30 gallon water heater. Our plumbing company, Horizon Enterprises, determined that the water heater was defective. Bradford White diagnosed the problem over the phone and slowly sent some parts. These did not repair the water heater. When the plumbing company reported this Bradford White refused to further honor their warranty. We will never purchase their product again.Michael of Gallup, NM

Purchased a 40 gallon gas water tank in May of 2014, in September of 2014 no hot water, called Sears for repair. It took a week for the appointment, out he came and told me it was the thermocouple and had to be ordered. Told me after I received it to call and make an appointment for tech to come out and install. Took 4 days for thermocouple to arrive and another week for tech to come out to put in. So far 3 weeks with no hot water. Now he puts it in and it works for 2 days. Called Sears again and again. I am without hot water for another week till they can get out to me. I am waiting for service tech to show up and I know he will tell me that I need another thermocouple and that will take another 3-4 days for it to get to me, and then I will have to call sears again for another appointment which will take another week or two. I am on a warranty with Sears and under that no cost to me, but they will replace the tank if after 4 visits it can't be fixed, so if I add it up correctly it will be six months of cold showers before they replace this defective water tank, at 65 what the heck. I am thinking of contacting the attorney general and having Sears and Kenmore investigated with hopefully a lawsuit being filed. Too many people are having problems with Sears and Kenmore that something needs to be done. If they can recall cars, why can't they recall water heaters and fix the problem. There is also the federal trade commission, that complaints can be filed and let me tell you they do investigate and get things done. I suggest everyone who has had problems file with the FTC enough complaints and this will make the FTC take notice and fix the problem. There is also facebook, twitter and social groups that the news media will start to pay attention. Sears isn't what it use to be, and cutting corners by knowingly selling defective products isn't going to keep customers, and Yeah I am sorry I didn't get a tank from Home Depot. We purchased a home in 2018 that had a 40 gallon Bradford White Hydrojet heater. Installation was done in 2015. The heater is leaking and needs to be replaced. As others have noted, the heater has a 6 year warranty that does not include labor costs. Based on other reviewers' experience with multiple failures, we have decided to replace the unit with a different make. After you pay for labor twice within a few years, you are close to the cost of installing a much more dependable brand. My water heater burner went out after just over 3 years caused the pilot to go out. I was worried that although all parts were covered for 12 years and labor for only 3 and the labor would be very expensive. When I called and told them about the problem they said the part was covered and would ship it next day air but 10 minutes later another rep called and said they would cover the labor as well and to check a nearby service company as they might have the part in stock. Long story short without having to scream and yell my problem was corrected within 8 hours and all I have to do is drop off the new burner at the service company when it arrives. I have been lucky and haven't had many warranty problems in my life but none that I have had have been resolved so painlessly. I will never buy anything but Whirlpool from this day forward. The Bradford White Gas Power Vent water heater failed without warning overnight causing extensive flooding and water damage to a finished basement. Water heater was almost 10 years old. I had a Bradford White Gas Water Heater installed to replace a 15 year old water heater that was still working. After 2 years on the Bradford White, an internal seal or weld gave way and it sprayed water over a bunch of items which were not tolerant of water and leaked over part of the basement laundry room. A leak at the top of the water heater happened during the Illinois stay-home order, I have to asked the plumbers to replace it with a new one. I paid $595 labor for this defective item.
