Is Microwaving Food Bad For You?
Posted On: October 13, 2020

Some people say that microwaving food is bad for you and may lead to a loss of nutritional value. There are, in fact, some harmful impacts to microwaving food if done incorrectly.

For instance, heating up your food in non-microwavable plastics may cause unhealthy chemicals to seep into your food.

If too much liquid is being used, this may cause nutrients to leach out of your food when using the microwave.

Luckily, microwaves are not known to hurt nutritional value if used correctly and it is considered to be one of the top food-preparation methods out there. Cooking food using any method will reduce some nutritional value, even a stovetop. When cooking, it is best to expose your food to the least amount of heat to retain the most nutrients. This is why microwaves are one of the most efficient appliances for cooking food.

One technique that can help retain your nutrients and minerals is using a small amount of water to steam food from the inside.

Covering your food tightly with a microwave safe container can also help retain the nutrients.

Follow the above tips to ensure your food is microwaved safely and that your nutrients are well retained.
