Product Reviews:

I am reporting because we were provided false information prior to installation. (We had previous great service from a Rheem gas water heater for 24 years). Plumber said numerous times that Model: FVG6250T403 NOV 200, Serial: 1347J007963 Item: 9211910034 was made in America. I only noticed TODAY Dec 30 2013 when I called to register for 6 yr warranty label "clearly" reads... MADE IN MEXICO. The customer service employee Lisa at American Water Heater Co indicated the water heaters were MADE IN MEXICO. Installation was completed on Fri, Dec 20, 2013. Upon learning correct information, we called plumber Tom ** and he said he thought water heater was made in TN. Offered to take out at no costs to us. We will never use his services again!

We bought our house brand new back in 2005. Up until last week we have had no issues with our hot water heater (model number: FG6150T403NOV, serial number: 0425109812). However, last week the pilot light went out. We had a plumber come out and look at the unit. He cleaned and inspected the unit. At that time he noticed that the thermocouple was a left-handed thread and that it could be the problem. However, he was able to get the heater fired up and waited about 30 minutes before leaving. When I checked on it that evening, I noticed the pilot was out again. I finally called to get a replacement part. After being charge $33.00 for expedited shipping, I found out that the part was on backorder! I spoke with Sears parts (I guess they are affiliated with American) and was told that I would receive a credit (they would not answer what kind of credit). The part was not a thermocouple but a BFG conversion kit. I started researching this converter kit and found out it was driven by a class action lawsuit (even though I had to pay $102.00 total). Further research pushed me to calling up a local plumbing company and buying a new hot water heater (a Bradford). I would rather shell out the extra for a safe, new product, than take a chance on a conversion kit that might fix the issue (Is the redesign even UL certified?)

I have the same pilot light problems as everybody else. I pulled the burner unit out, and cleaned, and blew everything out, and took a wire brush to the openings on the floor of the unit. I called customer service, and was asked about ventilation. I didn't mention that the heater still didn't work, even when the door to the tin water heater was removed, so venting is not the likely culprit. She authorized a repair that will likely do nothing from the comments I see.The real problem with their customer service, is the apparent stupidity of the computer system. She asked me for the model and ID number. I had to cut through the extra insulation blanked on the tank to get it. However, when I gave it to her, she then asked me if I was ** and if I live at **. If this information was already in the computer, why couldn't there be a search by my name and address, to get the model and serial number. Obviously, I had registered the water heater in the past. Isn't being able to get this information the reason to register in the first place? Now, I have to replace the extra insulation, all because of a stupid inability to create the necessary searches in their customer database. Yes, I could have written the numbers down, but why have the customer registration at all, if it isn't to be used for anything, other than data mining of the customer base.

This unit has been repaired several times and it only lasts a few years/months. The burner assembly failed, all replaced, thermocouple went out twice more, gas valve assembly ($198) and now the unit has failed and traced back to a faulty thermo switch. My biggest complaint - No help or correct advice was given in the manual or help desk in how to test for this problem. They just kept saying to buy a new water heater. The replacement switch requires replacing the entire door assembly - ($180). 20/20 hind sight I should have replaced it at the first sign of trouble or better yet, bought a quality unit to begin with.

For the consumer named Evelyn who posted on July 1, 2014 please contact me regarding your water heater. Back in 2011 a Bradford White Natural Gas water heater was installed in my home - Model # M2XR504T6FBN. One week after install my unit also began malfunctioning. Bradford White failed to honor my 10-year warranty. One year after it was installed, my entire family was poisoned with carbon monoxide and my dog died. I have an attorney who is currently working on my case. I am 100% certain the water heater is defective because my attorney spent thousands of dollars getting mines tested. PLEASE contact me ASAP!!

We purchased a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater yesterday and had it installed by a licensed plumber this afternoon. Install went fine. Turned the water on and then the electric on, and waited a bit so the plumber could make sure all was well. All was not well, the water did not heat. Our plumber ran through the typical diagnostics and came to the conclusion the water heater was bad. Yes, it was bad, but the Rheem customer service was worse. This is a brand new water heater and they have said it was 3 different problems and they will send out a part. We wait for the part and then they will send a tech out--so we could be without hot water for more than a week--they could not give a darn. Brand new and this is the customer service you get--please folks, do not buy a Rheem. This story has a happy ending only because Home Depot in Holiday, FL is awesome. They are replacing the thing and going above and beyond for us. THIS is why we only use Home Depot. Rheem, take a clue from Home Depot and amp up your customer service or you won't have any customers to service.

Leaking gas whenever we have other appliances such as the heater that uses gas on at the same time. Called their customer service support was not helpful. Only fixed the controller but still have the same issue. Very unsafe product. I am still dealing with them. Hopefully they will replace it or something. I might just replace it since I feel very unsafe to have a water heater that randomly leak gas...

My plumber installed a Bradford White water heater, Model No. URG240T6N, on January 29, 2020. It immediately leaked because the factory-installed nipples didn't work. He told me that he had to remove them on every Bradford White water heater he has installed, that it is a problem with the product. I called my plumber when I saw that the water heater was leaking (thank goodness it's in the garage) and he came out and removed the factory-installed nipples and the water heater stopped leaking. But, then, the water never came out hot. At the factory recommended setting of Hot, a bath would only be at 88 degrees. I called and said there was something wrong with the water heater. The plumber came and changed out the thermostat. Still no hot water. I called the company, Ferguson in Santa Barbara that he purchased it from. They said there was nothing that they could do. I needed to call Bradford White.I called Bradford White Warranty Dept. and told them that I had a defective water heater. They immediately began arguing with me, telling me that it wasn't the water heater and that I must have faulty plumbing. I told them that the plumbing had been fine in my house, for 12 years, until the new water heater was installed. Then, they told me that it was my plumber. I told them that I had been using my plumber for 25 years and never had a problem with him. I also told them that he had already changed out the thermostat and it still wasn't working right. I also said he had come to my home three times to try to fix it. They told me that I wasn't getting the full story from my plumber and Fergusons. I told them that I had spoken with both of them and that Fergusons had directed me to the warranty dept.I told Bradford White that it was defective and I wanted a new water heater. The woman continued to argue with me. It was THE RUDEST call I have ever had with a company. And, then, she said she'd send a factory rep. to check it. I told her that I had taken cool baths/showers for over a week and I wanted it fixed immediately. I asked her for the name of the President of the company because I was going to write a letter. She said she didn't know the name of the President of the Company. I asked her, again, "You don't know the name of the President of the company for which you work?" and she hung up on me. I know she hung up because she had my number, which I had confirmed at the beginning of the call, and she never called back. Plus, she NEVER sent the rep.I ended up talking with a rep from Bradford White. He told me that he realized I had lost faith in the company and he was going to give me a refund so I could get a new water heater and a different brand. This was over a week ago. Two days after our call, I called him after no word and he back-pedaled on his offer and that they were going to send a factory rep. I told him they had promised me that over a week ago and no one had arrived. To this date, no factory service rep has ever called or arrived. So, now, it is February 19, nearly three weeks, and I am still fighting my water heater issue. I ending up having to call an attorney. I am also filing a complaint with the Consumer Fraud division of the State of California and am going to call our local television station which has a service that tracks down companies who aren't upholding business standards. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH BRADFORD WHITE COMPANY EVER AGAIN. This is definitely a Buyer Beware Situation and the appropriate state/federal business regulating company should be after the company.

I wanted a new hot water heater as the original 27 year old unit was starting to go, so my husband went to the local Lowe's and picked up a Whirlpool 40 gallon electric heater. First one didn't work and neither did the second one. We tried to follow all the recommendations by the help desk, nothing. We did research and found that 95% of a batch of 40 and 50 gallon shipped out had defective heating elements in them.

I have a model FG1F4034T3NOV water heater that was a problem since day one. The pilot will not stay lit, and apparently, there was some sort of class action lawsuit due to a defective part that I missed out on because I didn't know about it. The telephone representative is quick to point out that it is out of warranty due to the date of manufacture and that it needs about $200 in parts because I can't find the receipt from 4 years ago, when I bought it from Lowes. The company flat out refused to do a courtesy replacement for parts or discount them.
