Rheem Heat Pump Model RP15AZa Error Codes

Rheem heat pumps may use error codes to help diagnose and troubleshoot issues. The specific error codes can vary depending on the model and type of your Rheem heat pump. It's crucial to refer to your heat pump's user manual or technical documentation for accurate information about error codes.

Here are some general Rheem heat pump error codes and their potential meanings. Keep in mind that these are generic examples, and your specific model may have different codes:

P: High-Pressure Switch Open (HP) - Indicates a high-pressure condition that may require attention. This could be due to issues such as a refrigerant overcharge, blocked condenser coil, or a faulty high-pressure switch.

LP: Low-Pressure Switch Open (LP) - Indicates a low-pressure condition that may be caused by issues such as low refrigerant levels, a refrigerant leak, or a faulty low-pressure switch.

F: Defrost Control (DFC) - Indicates a problem with the defrost control. This could be related to issues with the defrost thermostat, defrost control board, or sensors.

H: High-Pressure Sensor Fault (HPF) - Indicates a fault with the high-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a high-pressure condition.

L: Low-Pressure Sensor Fault (LPF) - Indicates a fault with the low-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a low-pressure condition.

C: Open Circuit or Sensor Fault (OSF) - Indicates an open circuit or sensor fault. This could be related to various sensors within the heat pump.

Other Codes: There may be other codes specific to your model, and their meanings will be outlined in the user manual.

Always refer to your specific model's documentation for accurate information about error codes and their meanings. If you encounter an error code on your Rheem heat pump, it's advisable to consult the user manual first. The manual typically includes a troubleshooting guide that may provide steps to address common issues associated with specific error codes. If you're unable to resolve the problem or if the issue persists, it's recommended to contact Rheem customer support or a qualified HVAC technician for assistance. They can provide accurate diagnostics and perform any necessary repairs.

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in September 2018 (almost three months ago). Its broken and I have no hot water. I called them and they sent a horrible service tech out to my house who could not fix it. Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call Rheem. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the heartache, tears and stress that Ive been going through.

I probably need to replace the Rheem water heater installed in new house in 1974. Its still working with only heating elements being replaced a couple of times. But reviews I read online about newer water heaters of any brand has me wondering if I should just hang in there!

I purchased a new Rheem water heater in December of 2021, 3 weeks later the electrical heating control unit failed per plumbers diagnosis. He recommended exchanging and installing another water heater. Home Depot was great about the exchange but Plummer said I would have to pay for the labor as he has had problems in the past getting paid by some manufacturers. So I paid him and then filled a claim with Rheem get reimburse... Im still waiting on my money and they are not responding to any of my emails. :-(

Alright, so after having bought a home (Spring, 2017) My water Heater started failing (which was okay with me, its a new house, things fail, it was still under warranty, but I wanted longer showers). So, I bought a new one. Within 3 days, the water heater failed, knocked out my power, and began leaking from the electrical components. Yep. So, I called, and emailed, to get it replaced. After having spent a non-consecutive time span of 15 hours on hold between Rheem and Home Depot, I was continuously growing more and more frustrated. FINALLY, a poor customer service girl, who spent around 45 minutes of her day at Home Depot, had to jump through about a thousand hoops--2 months later. Yep, because of these people, I had been 2 months without hot water, and all of the fun that that brings (YAY!). That was over two weeks ago.Two days ago, I received my new water heater--sorta. They botched the delivery. It was supposed to be delivered to my house, but instead, they shipped it to Home ** Depot, so I had to scramble out of work, and go pick up the thing--did I mention it was delivered a day late? On my work Monday, and I do not work in an industry where you can just pick up and go. I open the box to find, a dent about the size of a baseball, or so--but it gets better. The box was undamaged. They had to ship it in this condition, knowingly. I have emailed them, I have tried calling them, but I have yet to hear back.I am appalled, by this level of unprofessionalism, and lack of quality oversight. And after reading the preceding reviews, I can assure anyone who reads this, that Rheem will never, ever receive any of my business, ever again, and I do not understand why anyone would give them theirs. Go for GE, or Westinghouse, or something else and save yourself the trouble; at least their products sometimes work, and their staff has the decency to at least lie to you.

Buying Rheem Seer 20 heat pump/ac unit is the worst investment of our lives
Buying Rheem Seer 20 heat pump/ac unit is the worst investment of our lives. Three months after buying it quit and installer said it needed to replaced but under warranty. Waited 2 months and installed in December. Incredibly loud!!!! Sounds like a loud compressor running beside the house. If the outside temperature gets cold it is very inefficient warming the house. At -10C (14F) it couldn't keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.

Last Spring 2016, I had a contractor install air conditioning in my 2 story house beach house. It was not possible to run ducts on the first floor so Fujitsu ductless was installed and works beautifully. Unfortunately, on the second floor I had central air conditioning installed and paid additional to upgrade to the Ruud brand. Big Mistake! The contractor had problems upon problems with the equipment. Because the equipment did not work, the compressor had to be installed twice and the coil/air handler needed to be installed three times. In summary, the contractor wasnt happy with all the time he spent and wasnt paid for and the installation wasnt finished until mid summer ruining my summer.

My original water heater gave out and went to Home Depot for a new one. I came across Rheems water heaters, fairly cheap compared to others, 6yr parts warranty, 1yr labor, easy to install so it seemed like the best choice at the time. Over a year later, heater gave out, called customer service and they were not helpful. They want to replace every single component before they even consider the thought of having to replace the heater meanwhile Im left without hot water for days/weeks. After days of arguing with customer service, I finally asked to speak to a supervisor (Kelly, ID#**) 1866-279-4566 and she was even worst. I still havent resolve this issue, will probably cut my losses and buy a new, better heater, definitely NOT a Rheem heater.. Dont cut corners people, spend the money, dont go Rheems because you will deal with the pain down the line.

Not properly plugged in. Burner lite but no Hot Water, only warn. Let it be for a few days and then called Rheem. They sent a new gas valve and plumber came to install. Still no Hot Water! We purchased a hot water heater on December 6th, 2017 and it stopped working on December 19th, 2017. We called Rheem on the 20th and they dispatched a plumber to come out on the 21st, he showed up on the 22nd. He started up the unit and said we needed new parts and he would call Rheem to let them know which parts need to be shipped to the house. I called Rheem on Friday the 29th because the unit stopped producing hot water again and the parts were never ordered. Weve been without hot water since Friday the 29th. Hold time to speak to customer service is 40 minutes. Ive been calling everyday 2 to 3 times a day to see if the parts were ordered and still have no answer. Its -6 degrees and Ive been without hot water for 5 full days. Not acceptable! I would never recommend Rheem products to anyone! I understand that the unit itself failed but customer service is ridiculous!

In Feb. 2014 my home warranty company who by their very nature replace covered parts with the cheapest product they can. That’s an issue in and of itself. Sent out a technician who replaced the previous failed water heater with a Rheem 48 gallon tank made in Mexico. It states it right on the model number and serial number sticker. This tank came with a 6 year limited warranty. On 6/28/2020 the tank failed and was leaking out the bottom, luckily I caught it quickly and was able to shut off the water and attach a hose to the tank and drain it before further water damage could occur. I called a plumber who came out first thing in the morning and he took one look at it and confirmed what I knew that it had to be replaced. I asked why this would fail within five months of being out of warranty and he informed me that Rheem is a consumer grade product that’s not very good. As he disconnected the unit and wheeled it away, a stream of red colored water followed it as it exited my garage. I asked the plumber if that was rust and he confirmed that it was.I asked if my whole house water filtration system could have helped the unit fail faster as salt is used in the filtration process. He and my filtration company whom I already had scheduled to come out that day to change our filter medium, both confirmed that this would not have caused this and more so would have helped prolong the system as no sediment would build in the tank.Plumber installed a new tank made in America and told me that this was a solid tank and should easily last 10 years. I contacted the Rheem warranty department and explained my situation and the front line rep stated since I was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor as I felt this was just a few months past warranty and how it failed seemed like planned obsolescence.A supervisor called me the next day and I explained my plight and asked if Rheem could do something given the circumstances. The supervisor stuck to his story and kept referring back to the warranty and that he couldn’t do anything. I even asked if they could do some form of partial compensation as I was out $1800 for the new tank and install. He kept to his company line and stated he couldn’t do anything. In business you can ALWAYS do something, especially for exception situations where it’s clear your product failed sooner then it should have. I asked the supervisor if he truly couldn’t do something or is it more the case he wouldn’t do something. That was a little to close to home and we promptly ended the call as I knew I was dealing with a terrible manufacturer who they and companies like them are more concerned with profits then manufacturing and standing behind their product.Rheem is a common brand sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s outlets. My plumber would never touch them because of their shoddy manufacturing. Rheem is a key example of the current discordant atmosphere in this country as their business practices are focused on greed, period. Use cheap labor in Mexico, less than adequate materials for the purpose of the product and make their margins by mass volume through these national retailers. Staff your customer service with minimum wage or barely over minimum wage to dodge claim calls and ultimately only compensate as few claims as possible. It’s more cost effective to staff customer service and train them to avoid claim fulfillment than it is to make good when their products fail. This company should be shut down, liquidate all its assets, attempt compensate customers who were in warranty and denied and proceed down the list as best as possible. Residual if any, should then be used to fund a start up in either America or Mexico or both and bring in best in class manufacturing processes to produce a truly viable product that the new company will stand behind. DON’T BUY OR INSTALL A RHEEM WATER HEATER. Install a better quality tank and pay the extra cost. You will easily recover that cost in performance as well as not having to deal with costs of home and property damage from a failed tank.

We had a new air handler installed in our condo in the spring of 2014. Since that time, we have had the evaporator coil replaced three times and the blower motor replaced once. Although Rheem offers a ten year warranty for the parts, they will not pony up for labor for the customers out of pocket expenses. It cost me $1450. Despite the fact the coils are obviously defective, Rheem will not take any responsibility for a product that is less than reliable. They are so bad that they currently are saddled with a class action lawsuit. Save yourself a lot of money and buy a product from a credible manufacturer who offers a reliable product.. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.... DO NOT BUY A RHEEM AIR HANDLER.

This is the 2 Rheem 360 gallon hot water heater model G65-360-1 that has leaked in less than 5 years. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best. Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem wont give us a refund. Be aware they have problems. Avoid a Rheem or any of their other products. A Wood heater will last years without problems, ask your plumber before you buy not the experts at the Home Improvement stores. They are going to sell you what they make the most margin on. Not what is going to be the best.

We had our Rheem water heater installed less than a month ago and we recently noticed an awful smell in our hot water. We are on a well and do not chlorinate our water. We do have an iron reduction filter and water softener and have never experienced a bad odor to our hot water. We had to call the plumber out to look at the water heater because of the odor being so bad and were told that we needed to replace the anode rod to eliminate the smell. The anode rod that came in the water heater was not intended for well water. We tried contacting Rheem to see if this could be processed through our warranty and we were told it was not a defect in the product. It may not be a defect, but this product was not advertised correctly. Nowhere does this product say For Chlorinated Water. I am very disappointed in this product and this manufacturer for not advertising their product in a way that allows a consumer on a well to make the best decision for their home. We had our previous water heater for over 15 years with no odor in our water. Customer Service told us we can replace the anode rod and will probably have to do it quite often, or we can completely remove it and the water heater will not last as long. He also said we could add a chlorination system to our water, but all the options he listed are at our cost. I will never purchase a Rheem water heater or any other product with their name on it ever again.

WARNING - Be sure to register your Rheem Heat Pump. Without registration, you lose 5 years of your 10 year warranty. BETTER YET... DO NOT BUY RHEEM. If I could zero or negative star I would. My installer did not register my unit 7 years ago nor did I. I was not given a registration card to mail in. For the past 4 years, Ive had 5 techs here to work on my unit. Made a horrible loud banging noise that would wake us up at night. The blower motor was replaced. See-cell warped fan blade on condenser replaced. Thermostat replaced. Added 2 lb. of freon... All to no avail. Now the compressor is gone.I had AEP out when I got a $400.00 electric bill. They said air was not circulating evenly throughout- kept the unit running continuously. I had to close of 3 rooms to afford my electric bill. I mailed Rheem Corporation a copy of my dated bill, installation date, model #, serial # and copy of my 10 year warranty. Their reply was ... Sorry.. Theres no registration recorded, your warranty is gone. So Rheem Corporation is gone for me. My friend also purchased a Rheem heat pump and her unit is having the same problems. DO NOT BUY RHEEM.

I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. Its leaking & cant be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesnt come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if theres a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they cant track down by your name only the model # & yes, thats right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

I purchased a water heater last week. I had a guy come into install it for me. He got everything done and went to fire it up and nothing. After talking with the company who said they could send out service, but it could take about 1 week. Well with all the stuff going on in the world and me being a healthcare worker I need hot water. The guy takes off the black box at the top and lo and behold one of the three wires is not connected. Its a manufacturer defect and still will take about one week. So, the guy rigs it so we have hot water. I called 2 business days later because no one called me to set up service to find out that the call was disconnected and he never put it in. He had all my information already. Of course they had an excuse. I will never purchase another water heater from this company again. I also paid the guy to install it and they will not reimburse me anything. You know what I would like to do with this heater.

Hi there, I am a home builder by the name of Ivaan Interiors in Winnipeg, Canada and I bought a 60-gallon HWT from Home Depot last month Dec 2021 for my new house to sell. The hot water tank was installed on-site by a licensed plumber and electrician. The electrician found that its not heating and consuming double Amperes as compared to it and tripping the circuit breaker. The electrician double-checked all the wiring but it didnt work and mentioned that there is some problem inside. We called customer service and they said, We can send parts, and we have to get it repaired at our end. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can we repair and why should we spend another hundred bucks to get it repaired. We didnt buy this brand new product to take the pain to repair. The buyer is taking possession next month. I want it to be repaired or replaced asap. I would appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and solved immediately. Manish

I purchased a new 12-year water heater in December 2009 from Home Depot. Less than two years later (21 Aug 11), the water heater broke down, the pilot light failed to light and there was no hot water. I called GE/Rheem service line and instructions were given to re-light the pilot. I got it going for only five minutes before shutting off again. Then, I called Pacific Gas and Electric Company on the next day, 22 Aug 11, for unbiased diagnostic check. PG&E came on 23 Aug 11 and determined that the water heater was properly installed, the air vents were clear and no obstructions but, again, the pilot light failed to sustain or remain lit for more than six minutes. I called GE/Rheem service line and described the sequence of events. The phone technician quickly stated that she would send a gas valve control which would take care of the problem. I asked if there were problems with these heaters but I did not get a clear answer. She stated that she would send out the part via FedEx to arrive the next day between 10-12 noon. Its already 5:00 p.m. but there is still no part and it is too late now to find a plumber to come install. Meanwhile, it has been four days without hot water. I checked the Internet and found an incredible amount of complaints regarding the specific product of GE water heaters and many of them were purchased from Home Depot.

I purchased a Rheem water heater in June 2014 from Home Depot. The tank failed several days ago. We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

Not sure how many of the water heaters made by Rheem are faulty. But mine was (just a knob in the front, so far) and let me tell you, the customer service sucks. They were rude and dismissive to my plumber when he called the night he installed it. Then neither of us could get hold of them the following day (a Wednesday). Finally on Thursday morning, I reached someone who was clearly bored and not caring. She told me a local contractor had the job so I needed to call them. A rude and dismissive person was eventually reached (after 2 hours of calling) at the local contractor number. Nobody could come out until the following day, Friday (today). When he finally showed up, he told me he was there to do a determination on what was needed. Then he had to call Rheem, and order the part. Which would not be shipped until Monday! Mind you, this puts me at a week without hot water, apparently due to the company who makes this water heater not caring!!! DO NOT BUY A RHEEM PRODUCT.

We got a brand new water heater in 2017. Now in 2020 it stopped working over a month ago. We reached out to Rheem for a new thermocouple- per the machine error. It took several rude customer service representatives to get the part. Despite paying the extra 50$ to overnight the order, it did not arrive for two days. We had the plumber put in the new thermocouple and all was well....for a few days. Then a new error popped up high temperature sensor...a few rude Rheem calls later and another overnight (read: two days) package later, we get the part. Pay yet another plumber to put the part in and all is well...for a few days. The hot water stops again, the plumber comes yet again and the pilot light is three times as tall as it should be! Call some rude Rheem representatives and OH, they sent the WRONG PART AND WILL NOT BE COVERING THE PLUMBER INSTALLATION FOR THE WRONG PART THEY SENT!!?! Two days later and were still waiting for the overnight of the right part. Have never been more dissatisfied with a company and will NEVER purchase Rheem and will discourage EVERYONE I know from using.

Every time I leave for over the road, I come back house is cold, when it warms up, I shut it off, then need heat and nothing, its always sensors, gas valve sticks. The furnace gets new filter every month, dust out top of furnace, and plagued with issues, oh and the air conditioner, when it cycles off sounds like it gears are being stripped. Thats normal after a year of whinnying, Never again will I buy Rheem. 96% efficiency my butt. My hydro goes up while I wait for repair guy.

I had a Rheem HVAC unit with a motor burned out during a HOT Summer in Alabama a few days ago. The local Distributor did not honor my warranty due to the fact that my problem comes up after the Unit installation date; but, it was within my warranty registration date. I called Rheem warranty department and was fortunate to speak to a lovely lady named Michelle. She took times listened to my explanation and willing to work and help me with the warranty part. The authorized Rheem technician was able to help restore the HVAC unit to its operations. I wanted to thanks Michelle personally and thanks Rheem manufacturing department for going the extra mile to listen and review my case. With this type of professional service, I am rest assure to continue to buy Rheem products for my future need. Again, thank you very much.

Bought a new Rheem 50 gallon gas water heater from Home Depot. Plumber installed water heater but it kept cutting off. He walked with Rheem technician and found the new heater had a faulty valve. After a lengthy delay, Rheem sent the new valve and it was installed. We tried to have Rheem pay Amerigas (he worked for them) for the installation. After repeated delays because of missing paperwork (we sent multiple copies), Rheem indicated they would pay the gas company. They have not and now the gas company tells us we are late in our payment. We have never been late in our payments to anyone!Today Rheem told us they had sent us a letter (Right! We have received no such letter!) telling us they will only pay about 40% of the installation fee for that defective part. NEVER AGAIN!! Do not buy from Rheem. They send defective products then fail to cover the installation cost of replacement parts. Never again! Stay away from this company. Now we are left to worry about this water heater should anything go wrong with it in the future! What kind of company is this!! Oh, and their service department is a joke. Sadly the joke was on us. Stay away!!!!

We purchased a Rheem air conditioner in 2012 because we were having small problems with our original air conditioner that came with our house when it was built in 1995. Because it was 17 years old & started having small problems, we decided to purchase a new one, which was a Rheem. Btw, we lived in another home prior to this one & that a/c (not a Rheem) was still working great when we sold that home 20 years later. After having the new one for two years, the coil was leaking & all rusted out. It was under warranty, but the labor to install a new one cost us just under $500. Almost six years after that, just recently, the compressor went out. The charge to relace it (labor) plus refrigerant is $1600.We purchased a new a/c unit so we wouldnt have to be putting more money into an old unit, wouldnt have to be inconvenienced & uncomfortable. We now have bigger & more expensive problems with the a/c than we had before. Rheem makes an inferior product & I wouldnt wish this product on anyone. Do not buy from Rheem, youll be sorry. P.S. I have a neighbor who also replaced her original a/c of 19 years with a Rheem & her unit just stopped working. She is still waiting for the repairman to look at it while the high has been 100° each day.

DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!

I bought a Rheem 50 gal. residential gas hot water heater. Installed it myself, because its not difficult. Lit the pilot and gave it ample time to heat. Got a shower that evening and the water temp. alternated from warm to cool and continued to cycle that way throughout the entire shower. Couldnt get any help from Home Depot. Most reps there dont know their ** from a hole in the ground. Looked online and found some broke-** plumbers asking for donations to solve problems. What I did is what most should do, but dont because they dont have the time or cash. This is precisely how a company like this survives. There is not enough coverage on what a piece of ** product these ** put out. Just another sell out company that has junk put together by those from the land of dirty **. Had a plumber buddy suggest Rinnai. So I drained the Rheem and took it back. Put a Rinnai in and lived happily ever after. Because Im from back east and dont mind speaking out. Every time Im in Home Depot, supply yard, hardware store, etc.. Ill check the plumbing supply aisle, and have thus far talked 3 people out of buying Rheem products. Feel like getting Rheemed Id say. That doesnt hurt their profit, but if people keep it up and bad mouth them every chance they get, especially us contractors, eventually they may build a better product or at least hire a few professionals to help. Either way, Im from the old school and its too late, will never buy anything this company puts out and have steered other contractors to this site, so they can see for themselves the amount of dissatisfaction. Thank you Consumer Affairs and all those who took the time to help talk me out of buying Rheem.

We replace a water heater April 2015 with a Rheem electric tank in our vacation rental. Sept 2016 our tenant called us to say there was no hot water. Couldnt believe it. We had a plumber attend the condo to find out that the wires on top of the water heater were fried. We needed a new hot water heater of course. This happened on a Saturday and Rheems office was closed.I called Rheem on Monday for them to tell me I had to go through who I purchased the hot water tank through which was Home Depot. A representative at Rheem told me they would reimburse the labour to install the new tank. Im still waiting as of today being February 13, 2017. Rheem has the worst customer service I have ever had. They tell me someone will call me back in a day or so. They tell me it takes 6 to 8 weeks for an answer. Wow its now been 6 months and still no answer. I am so done with them. NEVER PURCHASE A RHEEM PRODUCT!!!

Had a plumber install a Rheem 40 gallon propane water heater installed in December 2018. In September 2019 the unit quit working. After several hours on hold and some troubleshooting identified that the internal combustion shut off device had failed. Had a plumber out who confirmed issue and was perplexed with an unusually high amount of soot in the water heater. I explained there was a fire below the burner, which seemed very odd. Once the new part came in we replaced it and it lasted for less than 15 minutes. I then had a second plumber out who checked gas pressure, venting and that everything was installed according to code. We discussed the issue and that Rheem no longer makes good products. We both contact Rheem and explained all the trouble shooting we had done. After an hour on the phone with multiple contacts they finally agreed to send a new burner and internal combustion shut off device. After more than a week of cold showers for this family of six we finally got the parts. New parts were installed and it seemed to work great until today December 1 2019 when the internal combustion shut off device failed again. Been on hold for 45 minutes waiting for customer service. Keep in mind that there has been no change to the venting or the gas pressure. Save yourself some headaches and buy a different brand.

They will keep stalling on replacing your water heater until you give up and buy a new one because you need hot water. 12-year warranty tank, only 4 years old. Already had to replace the thermocouple 2 years ago. Second failure now only lets it give hot water for 1-2 minutes and its out. Since this was not my first bad experience with a Rheem heater customer support, I just went straight to a plumber. They told me the tank needs to be replaced. OK, next day I call support, they want me to check a couple things and get back to them, fair enough. Call back 2 days later, they have no record I ever called so we start the entire process again, and they decide to send me a new gas control valve even though the first person I talked to said that didnt fit the symptoms. 2 days later I get it, and install it. Still broken, call back again, by now its been a week without any hot water, and everyone in the house is pissed at me. They want me to run a water temperature test AGAIN for a third time, even though Im already well aware the water gets hot... it just runs out in about 2 minutes. They want to send me another gas control valve, even though I just installed a new one they sent me that day. Which I wouldnt get until Tuesday since its a Saturday. Refuse to allow me to trade it in for a new one, and the supervisor tells me its clearly a plumbing issue since the gas control valve was replaced and I checked the dip tube and its not cracked or broken. He tells me just like a water heater, parts can fail in plumbing. My copper pipes can fail somehow causing hot water to run out quick? With zero plumbing changes? Yeah, OK, they clearly are just coming up with any excuse possible to not give me a working water heater. At this point I need hot water, so I give up and go buy a Whirlpool. Hey, I have all the hot water I want now, turns out my copper pipes didnt break in a fashion that sucks the hot water up. Shocker, it was the water heater. $750 down the drain on a new water heater because their support refuses to actually help.

I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem Performance Hot water heater from Home Depot a few years ago. Right before Christmas the digital control panel went out. I searched the internet and found out there is a recall on them. I called Rheem customer service and had to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to talk to a representative. The representative was helpful and sent me the necessary paperwork to fill out. They authorized the repair to be up to $250.00. I had to call Mac Plumbing and the part was delivered and installed on Christmas Eve. So appreciative to get hot water back.I sent all necessary papers to Rheem for the reimbursement right away along with the proof of payment. Rheem never confirmed they received the necessary information. I called Rheem customer service to verify they received the necessary paperwork to process the form. I spent at least 45 minutes on hold. I talk to the representative and he verified they have the necessary paperwork. Then I got disconnected. It is Feb 18th and I have not received the reimbursement of $249.00 they authorized to get the recall repairs complete. I am totally disappointed with Rheems customer service. It is unsatisfactory!

Purchased and had professional installation on a Rheem 40 gallon water heater with a 9 year warranty on 1/30/2015. This morning 5/3/2017 just a few months over 2 years the unit failed and needs to be replaced. Now I am out $500.00 labor and must pay the difference between todays price and the price I originally paid for the water heater... Spoke with customer service and of course they wont pay since I am over the two year parts and labor portion of the 9 year warranty. What a ripoff! They know they are making junk and are smart enough to limit the warranty so they are not responsible for labor when their inferior products fail prematurely. Dont get Rheemed like I did and stay clear of these poor quality products.

I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. My insurance told me that 99% of insurance companies will still require that the unit be changed after 10 years regardless of the manufacturers warranty claims. Note: I am in Canada. Buyer beware!!!!

To follow up with the pictures I submitted and to the part that was burnt. When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but its in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

Basically, I bought two Ruud/Rheem air conditioners from a local company and the 2011 air conditioner started to leak Freon as far as I can tell in 2016. Upon investigation and numerous calls I became aware that the company is selling units with copper coils (aluminum is the best choice) that are eaten through by the Freon and thus cause leaks in the coils which and in turn the unit shuts down. The company denies that they are having significant problems and will not help me financially address the repair. So, at this time I am repairing my air conditioner from my own Pocket even though I bought the units in good faith along with the assurance that Ruud/Rheem was a trustworthy company, WHICH THEY HAVE PROVEN ARE NOT TO BE.When I called the company, the customer service representative was in complete denial of the problem and I think they were trained to say certain pat answers to avoid liability. I Highly suggest that everyone reading this write or call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION as I did and a rep will call to take your complaint and if enough people do so there will be a federal investigation based on the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, look it up to educate oneself.

I filed a warranty claim with the company via their web form with all the required information. Rheem never responded one way or the other, on a water heater that failed after just two years on a 6 year warranty. During installation we discovered that half of the gas heating unit was missing. Rheem graciously sent us a new heating unit, though, as it turned out, even that was defective, but was able to repair with locally sourced parts. Between my father and I we have used Rheem water heaters in this house for over 60 years, but obviously, there must be new management, who neither cares about quality control or fairness in business practices. Rheem support said they would send a plumber, who did call nor show up. I called Rheem again and said I was not happy and I might return it to store. The Rheem rep said they would not authorize the return. That sounded fishy, since the stores policy doesnt require Rheems authorization. What happened to the Rheem quality that I grew up with. This unit is only 3 years old and began leaking at the base below the lower T-Stat. It caused severe water damage to the interior of my unit. My plumber shared that the quality control on the assembly line is poorly managed. Examples of units that have failed revealed only partial interior glass lining which instantly began rusting and a thinner gauge of metal used to build the tanks.

Plus, I could not get any of their contractors out for at least another 2-5 days. I called back and spoke with a supervisor who said I could take it back to store and get replacement. I told her I did not have receipt but I did purchase date and product registration. She said that would not be a problem because they have the ability to look that up in their system. The store only prorated the product. I called again and spoke to another supervisor, Mike #**. I told him that the price difference it ended up costing me was $65.42. He said they would not be able to reimburse me because I didnt have original receipt. I told him that the supervisor I talked to previously said it would not cost me anything. Purchased and had installed a new Rheem water heater by Home Depot. The installation went well but the new heater was defective and leaked hot water from the top of the unit... I called the Rheem number listed on the side of the water heater and got a call center where I was placed on hold and then no one ever returned. The second attempt to call resulted in being transferred to a technician who never answered. The third attempt: I was told to dig out insulation from the top of the heater to find where it was leaking and repair it myself. I was also told to go out and buy a plug that was missing from the top of the unit. The fourth attempt: I was told to check the water pressure! Its obvious that the personnel in the Rheem call center are not trained in troubleshooting issues and theyll hang up or transfer you if they dont know the answer to resolving a warranty problem. I had to call Home Depot to get the water heater replaced.

I bought a Rheem gas hot water tank in middle of November 2020 and by mid June the pilot and burner stopped working. Called and waited on the phone for about an hour to get warranty and they shipped parts took about a week but they didn’t have a technician so I paid $350 for a company to come replace the parts. The parts worked for about month and now again I’m out of hot water and still waiting for them to refund the money I spent because they didn’t have a technician even though parts and labor were both under warranty. After 2 hours on the phone again they are sending someone in 10 days that is out of state to come look at the tank. After talking to a few other people who purchased Rheem products I would not recommend as they all had the same problems. In the 9 months I’ve owned the hot water tank I have been out of hot water for a month, missed work to wait on a plumber, spent $350 out of my own pocket, and lost hours on the phone. Plus after complaining and contacting them multiple times I am now getting emails saying they would only refund $250 and then an email the day after saying only $150 which are both contradictory of what they said. They do not care about products quality or show any care for their customers. Highly recommend going somewhere else for all products especially hot water tanks.

We installed a brand new Richmond 40 Gallon (Rheem) water heater which we purchased from Menards. It has a faulty Thermal shank. This has left me (and a renter) out of hot water for 3 days, while waiting for the part to arrive. Unfortunately no one has the part in town and there are no service technicians for the Saint Paul Minnesota area. I have called 15 plumbers off the list that was sent to me and I had difficulty finding one who will come out on short notice. I will not trust that I can have someone arrive after hours (@$259 an hour) and still be reimbursed. I will have a person tomorrow morning, but that means I will literally be boiling water for my renters bath. I am not looking forward to the paperwork I need to fill out for my claim. And I am disappointed that I will need to wait for my check to clear as proof of payment before finishing my claim. This is just more of a time delay to an already time consuming situation. This purchase has hurt my rental business. I will encourage others to buy another brand - especially Rental Managers and landlords who cant afford this type of hassle. I wish I could have just returned the product, but it is already filled with water and the gas and water lines are installed. I dont dare try to haul it back to the store for fear that it would be damaged on the way and then Id have an even bigger drama on my hands. And one more frustrating bit to this is the wait time when calling in. It was near a half hour. (Though the service line is faster).

For those who do not like to read long reviews, all I can say is that I cannot be more disappointed than I am with Rheem. Simply DO NOT buy a Rheem product, unless you like dealing with a product of marginal quality, and a customer support team that is beyond incompetent. Early in 2017 our 40 gal water heater needed to be replaced. We went to a local store and found a nice Rheem (or so we thought) gas water heater. Had it installed professionally, good to go. Soon after installation, every time the burner lit, there would be a loud bang of a small gas explosion. We called Rheem, and they said they ...have no technicians in the area, call a local plumber to look at it and well reimburse you. OK. We did as directed. The plumber came over and suggested a complete replacement of the burner assembly. Rheem declined, and sent only a small part. It didnt fix the problem. Another call to Rheem. And another. And another, with repeated visits by the plumber. Finally, after three months of back-and-forth, Rheem sent a full burner assembly. It fixed the problem. We then read the instructions on how to get reimbursed. It was quite complicated, and required all sorts of paperwork, including a W-9 from the plumber (even though Rheem must have had records of all calls and directions). I submitted the paperwork via email. I waited. And waited. No acknowledgment of receipt of paperwork. I called Rheem. After being put on hold for 1/2 hour, I finally talked to a representative. They claim that my reimbursement had never arrived (this is email, folks, if it doesnt arrive, you get a bounce-back message). I patiently resubmitted the paperwork via email. And waited. And waited. I called again 2 months later. By this time the fun had dragged on for 5 months. The rep said that the paperwork had been received, but that it was under review and a decision would be made whether or not to refund within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed. No check. The clock is now at 6 1/2 months in this story. At about 8 weeks, I tried calling again. The customer service option when calling Rheem was disconnected. I tried calling the contractor line, but they would not talk to me unless I had a contractor license number. I told them that the residential customer line was disconnected, and they babbled something about a technical problem. Right. Sure... I went to the plumber and asked for assistance. They called the contractor line, spoke to someone, and that person said the check would be sent immediately, and that there had been a problem with the paperwork I had sent (they had never told me this). When the plumber asked what the problem was, the Rheem representative couldnt be specific. At this point I was getting ready to go to small claims court. Three weeks after the plumbers call, the check finally arrived. Ive deposited it, and, based on historical activities, have my fingers crossed that it doesnt bounce. In the end, Rheem reimbursed us over $600 for repairs to an $800 water heater. If they had just authorized the full burner assembly requested at the first call, it would have been closer to $150. I have dealt with terrible customer service in my past, but this is a new low. And sadly, from what I understand, this is a more common occurrence than any decent company should allow. DO NOT BUY RHEEM!! By the way, the technical issue with the residential customer service line is still on-going, 4 weeks after I first encountered it. Pathetic.

Less than a year ago, I had two brand-new Rheem heat pumps installed to the tune of $16,000. One of these units had a factory defect which resulted in nearly $1,600 in electric overages (as the defect made it so that our home was unknowingly running on the ‘emergency heat’ setting for two months). As soon as I realized that something was amiss, I contacted the company – where their customer service agent led me to believe that such charges would be reimbursed provided it was deemed a defective part. HOWEVER, given the situation with COVID, she also informed me that unfortunately no agents would be able to do a home visit – and therefore the defect could not be verified.

(Has six year warranty.) Paid $1600 for the heater. They said it probably needed a Pilot Assembly Replacement kit. They would send one to my home from the parts dept. However, since it was the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend, the part couldnt be delivered until Tuesday!!! (Four days later). Their parts department wasnt open all of the three day holiday. So, on Tuesday morning, I called to track the part. They couldnt tell me anything, except it would be sent out that day, and arrive on Wednesday. Now five days without hot water. I asked to speak with a manager. Said nothing he could do would expedite the part. He was sorry. Very poor PR for Rheem. Additionally, Consumer Reports, that I belong to had no ratings for Water Heaters. Not a happy consumer today. Very upsetting.

Bought a 40 gallon Rheem water heater and installed, couldnt get it to work. Called the gas company thinking it was a problem with our gas. Not the issue. Called Rheem and they sent a part (that wasnt the issue either). Called them again to exchange the water heater and they said no, that if it was giving a code it could be fixed. In the meantime we were having to go to family homes to take showers. They gave us a reset code to try to reset it. It worked for 4 hours then went out again. Tried to reset it again with code and the damn heater blew up 6 inches from my husbands face. Lucky he was not injured. Called customer service, very pissed and they told my husband they would disconnect the call if he didnt settle down, didnt even ask if he was OK.. Finally got sent to claims. After 10 days of having this thing we are getting q code to exchange... Not Happy!!!

I bought a GE/Rheem 40-gal. power vent hot water heater in June of 2009, Model # GG40T06PVK00, and last week it quit. AB lights on. I turned it off for 10 minutes, turned it back on and watched through the window. I watched the igniter turn red and the gas turned on the burner, lit for a second or two and a click and it shut down and recycled and lit again, this time staying on. This has happened 2 more times. I had an A.O. Smith power vent for 10 years and the only reason I replaced it was because I didnt want to spend $175 on the new power vent that was coming apart. The heater still looked and worked great. My GE/Rheem is just 3 years old and you never know if you will have hot water or not.

Unfortunately my experience mimics that of others. I thought that I was buying a reputable 50 gallon high efficiency hot water tank costing me a total of $2,059. My tank was manufactured 3/31/2021. I havent had it a year yet and we are out of hot water. I called this evening the first call in waited 1hr 27 just for someone to answer and immediately hangs up. I mean before she could finish her greeting she stop speaking, made some type of gesture with her mouth then hung up. So I call again and just like the first call I held on waiting for 52mins, someone finally answered just to tell me, Oh hold on. I have to transfer you to technical support. So I held on for another 49mins. Now this is the good part, someone finally answered just to tell me she has to send a referral to the technicians and they will call to me to schedule a service call.

I purchased three separate Rheem HVAC units for three of my house. Has one unit failed within three months and needed a new water pump. One unit failed within 9 months and needed a new fan motor and the third unit managed to last two years and needed a new condensing fan motor. For what you pay for these systems I cant even see one of them failing this quickly but three systems is inexcusable and I dont run my air conditioning hard at all. I keep my house at 81 degrees and the two other houses are kept at about 75 or 76 degrees. There is no excuse for these units to fail this quickly.Every time I call Rheem they just tie me up in questions about serial numbers and product numbers and they never give me a firm answer as to why the systems failed so quickly and they obviously have never made any offer to reimburse the expenses of repairing these systems. The first two were covered under the warranty. The third one was not because it failed in two years so I was stuck paying for the repair. Im actually afraid to use my air conditioning for what might break down next and I cant see these systems lasting 10 or 20 years. If theyre breaking down like this now I dont know who regulates HVAC companies but Rheem needs to be reported. They are either making substandard products or they are pawning off reconditioned systems as new systems.

I replaced my 15 yr old HVAC unit with a Rheem about 3 years ago. Since then, Ive had the fan unit outside replaced in yr 2 as it was unbalanced. Not from misuse and not from damage. That leaves quality. Now in yr 3 I have a blower unit that is acting up and goes into alarm so frequently well turn the system off at night as there is no way to suppress the alarm. The tech said that the control unit in the motor senses hesitation in the motor and throws the alarm. When the blower doesnt start a second alarm is thrown for the main limit switch. A061F and T022F are the codes shown on the EcoNet t-stat display. The system is still under warranty but Ill end up paying over $300 in labor to replace another major component due to another quality issue. My old system wore out but never had issues like this. I would advise anyone NOT to buy a Rheem. Hope their QA people read this.

Bought this new water heater in 2019. 10 months later per tech support the gas valve was bad, they shipped another one, we installed it in July 2020. Now August 2021 the same issue, looking at other options. The thermal coupler is new, the combustion shutoff is good. Vents are not blocked. My assumption is the new gas valve they sent was a rebuilt one or a faulty one.

We purchased a hot water heater in 2011. The water heater is still under warranty. Spoke with Rheem representative. They said the heating elements went bad. They were supposed to send out new ones last Friday, overnight express. Waited until Tuesday to call them back. They said they were in transit. Delay was due to them not shipping until Monday. Waited until the following Monday. Still no heating elements. Checked with Fed Ex - they sent them back to the company... they had the wrong address or something. Tried calling the RHEEM number, 1 800 HEATER3. Try going to warranty department and it says call can not be completed. Call back later. Been trying all day. Very poor customer service. Would recommend staying away from Rheem heaters.

Purchase gas water heater August 2020. May 2021 gas valve became faulty. They shipped one out (2-4 days) and finally had someone schedule to come out after 7 days with no hot water. They proceeded to tell me that the gas valves for this unit manufactured between April and October 2020 are faulty and are having all kinds of issues. I was assured that the one they replaced in May 2021 that the issue was fixed and I would not have this problem. Now it is December 2021 and the gas valve has broke again. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. Customer service is extremely rude and unhelpful and they do not care whether you’re out of hot water or not. All they do is make excuses. I will never purchased one of these again.

Installation by the Water Heater Guys was done professionally. When I tried to register the 10-year warranty, it was entered incorrectly as a 6-year warranty. Both Rheem & The Hot Water Heater Guys say they agree that I have a 10-year warranty, but my registration can’t be changed to show it. I must keep my water heater stickers & invoices to prove I bought it with a 10-year warranty, if I ever need it. Sound true? It is!

I bought a new property in 2/2006, warranty for water heater is 6 years. I did not occupy the property until 7/2006. Rheem will not consider move-in date inreplacement of unit. However, aside from the six year limit, this unit has been defective from the start with major replacement parts, motor, vents, etc., which are on file with Rheem. Now, the water heater itself is leaking a few weeks over warranty. This unit is defective and should have been replaced. Does Rheem considers 6 years to be the normal working life of their water heater? Since I have been informed by the plumber that this is the only water heater that can be installed, I have no choice but to replace with inferior Rheem water heater again. I would have expected to be compensated by Rheem for the water heater, especially since this is the only model which can be used.

Had a water heater installed approx. 3 months ago. 3 weeks ago it started tripping the circuit breaker. After inspection, we found the insulation around the lower heating coil was soaked so had the lower heating coil replaced and dried everything out. Last week it started doing it again. Upon closer inspection they found the tank was leaking higher up and was irreparable. When I spoke with Rheem customer service I requested to speak with the service reps supervisor/manager who told me in a flat tone that while Rheem would cover the part and materials they did not have to cover the cost of labor. When asked why I should have to cover the labor cost to replace a 3 month old unit that only needs replacing due to a fault that is their responsibility, I was given the same flat-toned scripted response. I assured them if Rheem was not going to be flexible enough to work with its customers when the cost should rightly fall to them then I would not waste another cent with them and ensure anyone I encountered knew why.All work done by a licensed/certified/bonded contractor that Ive done business with for many years and has an impeccable reputation. This is not my first encounter with Rheem but it is also nothing different. Im usually a forgiving person but things like repetitive bad customer service stick with me for a long time and though this incident may cost me a couple hundred dollars I will do my best to ensure it cost them as much as possible in lost customers. My advice? Avoid Rheem products at all cost.

Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Please pass the word about Rheem water heaters. They should be making things right.

Bought it in April of 2017. Called up and registered the warranty the day it was installed, gave all information and documentation I was asked for. Died on Nov 1 2018, called the number on the water heater, was told the labor warranty was expired but parts were in warranty so theyd send the part, got the part on Tuesday, got it installed and still got 7 flashing red lights, so called back on Wednesday, the second tech I talked to on Wednesday said two failures of the same part were considered a complete failure. Id have to bring the water heater back to point of purchase and theyd replace it. As we talked she offhandedly mentions that it had a 9 yr part warranty and a 2 yr labor warranty (since Id been told it was out of warranty I was under impression that the labor was 1 yr) and that the labour had expired in August. I told her I had purchased it in April, she had me email the receipt and serial number to another email. That night I got an email that my warranty was updated and if I had any problems to call 800-432-8373, so first thing Thursday morning I called and they said theyd schedule a service technician to come replace it and Id be contacted within one business day with the name of the service tech and the appointment time. A short time later I got an email stating Thank you for contacting Rheem. A request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive a call within 1 business day, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Sat 8AM-8PM ET for further assistance. So, I dont hear anything further on Thursday, and I dont hear anything on Friday. So Friday night I tried to call but it was after 8 pm et, so I called again Saturday morning. I explained my situation and asked why I hadnt been contacted with any update within one business day like I was promised. The person I talked to (never Identified herself, but her manager said her name was Leah) told me that the techs dont dispatch service people, they created a ticket on Thursday which went to dispatch who created a rework ticket on Friday and its Saturday and Im talking to the person whose job it is to call the service people and schedule them and if Id let her do her job shed call and see if someone was available. She put me on hold and came back and said, Nobody is answering so theyre probably closed for the weekend. Ill call them on Monday and see if theyll come out, or I can give you a warranty claim number and you can do it yourself. Kind of ** since if your people hadnt been slow walking it and had contacted me on Friday LIKE PROMISED I could have called on Friday and had someone scheduled to work on Saturday or Sunday, but since its already Saturday I cant contact anyone until Monday. She then told me if theres nothing else shes hanging up. I had to stop her and ask to talk to a manager, who told me if I didnt want to wait until Monday for someone to be called she could give me a warranty claim number so I could call someone myself. She also said she had to defend Leahs behavior because she such a good and loyal employee and Leah was the only person who could possibly handle my claim. She also refused to admit that your company failed in any way in upholding your promise to contact me within one business day, telling me she understood why I would feel that way (without specifying what way I was feeling). Very well trained to be noncommittal. Cant think of another company thats given me such horrible customer service in the last decade.

I purchased this AC/Furnace and had a problem with it not cooling and the Outside exchanger coming on and off all within the warranty period. The contractor who installed it, fixed it by putting more 410 refrigerant in it. When I asked about the on and off issue I was told that it was a cycling thing going on, was lead to believe that was a normal operation. Recently I had the same problem and another tech from the same company came out and told me it has a leak and he put 5lbs of 410 refrigerant in to fix the problem. He stated the problem was due to low pressure, that is why the unit did not cool and the reason why it turned on and off. Now I am 4 months over the 5 year warranty period, so I am told by the contractor and Rheem will not replace that portion as that is where the leak is without me paying for the cost of the part plus labor. The Rheem products are crap. I spent good money and had a contractor hoodwink me into thinking there was no problems with the unit when in actuality the problem was occurring during the warranty period. This unit should have easily lasted much longer than it did, but unless youre an ac tech youre not in the know. If you are looking to replace your furnace/AC unit look at another company. Rheem is one big rip off. By the way Im a Veteran. All Veterans beware. This company is like the VA.

I purchased an entirely-new Rheem heating and cooling system in very early
I purchased an entirely-new Rheem heating and cooling system in very early 2013 (paid in full 3/2/13), having the RASL048JEC compressor-condenser unit, and RGPE-07NBRQR air handler/gas furnace unit. The Rheem compressor is a microprocessor-controlled, dual compressor design. From summer of 2014 onward, this compressor will latch up and not self-recover from any disturbance of the AC power coming to my home: brief power outages or brownouts will cause it to stay off. Originally, just pulling the fuse cartridges for 2-3 minutes and re-inserting... would make the unit recover. After 2015, this easy fix no longer works: now the compressor unit needs to have the cover removed such that the technician can do a hard-reset of the microcontroller boards by pressing circuit board switches to clear the (saved and displayed) error codes. Two weeks ago the A/C would not come on but error code 21 was showing, and this was traced to a Freon leak in the ADP-manufactured evaporator coil. This is a known problem with Rheem A/C units having the original copper coil; my local A/C contractor, Alaskan Home Services, had to change out three (3) such coils... including mine on the same day. The new ADP coil appears to have the same model number as the old (copper) coil, but it has aluminum tubing rather than copper. Checking online, it appears that evap coil failure in Rheem units is a widespread problem; there is even an attempt at a class-action lawsuit on this issue. Now yet another new problem has surfaced with the furnace / air handler unit: gas burner comes on, but the duct fan does not, resulting in an error code 46 on the controller board for the air handler... and the burner shuts off. And this came after the evaporator coil repair. I am really upset that this high-cost system is so unreliable... especially since it was bought with reliability in mind. Additional issue: Alaskan now charges me a diagnostic fee for coming out... although my old paperwork on the extended PMA (preventative maintenance agreement) was supposed to be all-inclusive contract, with no trip or travel time charges. Review of the PMA paperwork shows diagnostic fee ABSENT as a topic.

I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldnt get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didnt have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!! While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas companys fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now its a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didnt do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Dont buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

We bought ten of the direct vent models for our 10 apartments and they turned out to be the worst nightmare we got into. Everyone has failed either with hard lockout or leaking at the drain valve. Their technical support is always looking to deflect the fault to installation, venting or something else. Their use a plastic pipe for drain valve which cracks and leaks. We was on the phone every other day to asked for support. Some of the techs came to their sense and request brass drain valves, many of them just insisted on sending the same plastic valve again. They never tested these drain valves. Everyone has a hairline crack which leaks out water making a mess. Every time this happens, it takes them a couple of days to send replacement. After I gave a scathing review on their website, they quit talking to me. I now pledge to make sure consumers do not buy these direct vent heaters again from Rheem. Please avoid at all costs!

If the unit starts all members of the family rush to shower while we have hot water. Called customer service limited hours not responsive. Very poor unit! UNSAFE! No customer service. Never use Rheem again.

The condenser coil in my 6 year old AC unit is leaking and no longer cools my house which is 90 degrees. The part is under warranty but is on backorder and has to be manufactured. A month and a half later in the 90 degree summer I still dont have the part and Rheem can not tell me an estimated time of arrival. What good is a warranty if Rheem can not fulfill it? A $1,000 repair under warranty is going to turn into a new unit (NOT a Rheem) for $6,000 plus. I will never buy a Rheem again! I have seen multiple other reviews saying the condenser coils in Rheem AC units typically are replaced prematurely due to poor design. Buyer beware.

Purchased a Rheem hot water tank and had it installed August 2020. It is now mid December 2020, and the hot water is running out in short time. This was due to the bottom heating element failing. Rheem’s warranty at this point is full parts and full labor. Called Rheem and after a few transfers I was finally given a service approval. Their plumber did call the next day and they did show up the following day. The tech tested the bottom element and stated the element faired due to Dry Fire. I know this was not the case. The electric was only turned back on after the tank was filled and the water lines had the air evacuated. I mentioned these details to the service tech, and he gives me this other BS explanation about if the tank was left outside to long when it was being installed-the sun can heat up the element- bla, bla, bla....Here is the bottom line. Things can break for no reason other than it has an issue, maybe during manufacturing but if a company offers a warranty then they should honor it! Rheem did not for me. Hopefully if you buy something from them and you have an issue they will honor their commitments. Rheem shame on you. PS- I fixed it myself- took all of 10 minutes once the tank was drained. The service tech took more time talking to Rheem and writing up if excuse than it took to do the work. Im also a Builder of 30+ years so I has completed my share of hot water tank installs.

Yesterday we contacted Rheem regarding one of their hot water tanks that was only installed in April 2015, due to a loud bang then started leaking from the bottom. They authorized a replacement since was way under the Warranty Period. So far we were happy with the outcome. It wasnt UNTIL we took the defective tank back to Home Depot where it was originally purchased. First of all, they had no clue as to what they were doing, couldnt find our receipt even though was purchased with their CC and finally did NOT even do an even exchange. They charged us the difference from what was paid in April 2015 and what the price of the tank is NOW. Their reasoning behind this is the tank that was purchased in 2015 is NO LONGER manufactured so we had to get the one compatible to it. FIRST off, is it my fault the Hot Water Tank which was less than a year old went! SECONDLY, again is it my fault the original tank is NO LONGER manufactured! We proceeded to contact Rheem today regarding this issue, at which time they advised they have NO control how Home Depot processes Rheems defective merchandise/warranties or their prices. I was shocked and told the Customer Service Rep so. How can a company offer a warranty and NOT FULLY honor it. This should have been an even exchange regardless. I could understand if we wanted to upgrade or purchase larger. This was the only tank that was available.

Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Lets see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others dont give me much hope in this regard.

Water heater will not start up and has gas. You cannot ignite the water heater and instead has some damn Chinese electronic ignition that just stopped working. No gas smell, no safety issue - just stopped working. I am 57 years old and never had a water heater just stop and only six months old. I have never had a water heater that cannot be manually started. This is nuts.

This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing
This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing Company regarding a claim I made for a leaking hot water tank that has a 12 year warranty with full coverage (parts and labor) for the first three years. From the day I reported a problem with this Rheem 12 year Gas Hot Water Heater I was treated disrespectfully and it was abundantly clear from the beginning that it was going to be difficult to get this company to back the 12 year warranty on this hot water heater. When I reported the problem I was having with this water heater it was only one and a half years old and still eligible for full no cost labor and parts coverage for the first three years as stated in the warranty verbiage. Rheem customer claim reps gave me a hard time about sending a plumber out to look at the tank and repair it. After asking to speak to a supervisor I was finally told she would send out a plumber and I would be notified by someone who would set up an appointment. I then get a call and was told they cant find any authorized Rheem plumbers in my area and asked if I would contact a plumber on my own and have the plumber fix the leaking tank if possible and send their bill to Rheem for reimbursement. I tried to find a plumber but none would come when I told them they had to submit their bill to Rheem for payment. I ended up fixing the tank myself with some help from a friend who is a plumber apprentice.I turned in a claim for $18.06 and this chincy company denied payment, unbelievable!!!! Imagine what the claim would have been if a plumber would have fixed the tank and for sure I would have been stuck with that bill!!! I notified Home Depot (where I purchased the water heater} Customer Service and they were appalled when I told them this story. I only notified them because I wanted Rheem to be reported for their extremely poor customer service and not fulfilling their warranty agreements. Home Depot is one of Rheems largest dealers of their products and did not agree with Rheems denial of this claim. They told me they were going to file a grievance against Rheem for the way this claim was handled and to show their appreciation of my loyal patronage sent me a $25 Gift Card. I will never buy a Rheem product again and will tell all every chance I get of this horrible experience. If you need a new hot water heater be very leery about buying a Rheem.Rick **

At -10C (14F) it couldnt keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.

We built a new house in 2013. Our Rheem 50 gallon water heater is only 8 years old but of course, this happens right after the warranty is expired. We finished our basement about a year ago. Thanks to this water heater failing, we now have to replace not just the water heater, but all of our beautiful new hardwood flooring, the carpet in the bedroom and some of the drywall. Original water heater = $1,000. New water heater = $1,000. Homeowners insurance deductible = $1,000. Time off from work to remove everything from the basement to pull up the flooring = $840. Total cost of owning this thing = $3,840. Steer clear, folks.

We purchased a home in Florida 10 yrs ago for when we retired. We purchased a brand new complete Rheem AC unit from Heavenly Air in our town in 2012. We were told they would register it and we would have a 10 year warranty. We finally retired and moved in last fall. So actually the unit was never used on a yearly basis, just while we were here for 2 week vacations twice a year. It was set for 85 degrees any other time. The unit stopped throwing cold air. We called Heavenly Air. Yup, out of business and the company that took over will was no help. We called an air conditioner service they said 1200.00 to replace the coil. They reached out to Rheem, Rheem said it was never registered. I don’t have proof as I trusted Heavenly Air. The original manufacturing date sticker on the unit proves its not even 10 yrs old. So, please consider this if you are thinking about purchasing a Rheem system.

Our family purchased a Rheem water heater in September of 2018. November 30, 2019 it quit working!! We had a plumber out, not knowing what was wrong. After 4 hours of working on it/talking on the phone with Rheem representatives, it was determined that the thermocouple/starter unit would need to be replaced. We were told our part would be shipped out that night! Today, December 4 we received an email that the part was JUST SHIPPED today!! We won’t have water for 2 more days. Pretty tough for a family of 6!!!Rheem replacement parts are not carried by plumbing companies. We also had 4 companies refuse to work on the Rheem water heater, saying they avoid the products! Poorly made product and even worse customer service! We will NEVER purchase another product from this company and we intend to share with all of our friends as well!!

When this water heater started not working properly, after 5 years, with a 12 year warranty, Rheem made it VERY DIFFICULT and time consuming to get through their phone systems (hold times of 30+ minutes and no answer) to set up appointments, months have gone by. Rheem plumbers have been out twice, Rheem has not fixed the water heater, and now say we need to disconnect and return to Home Depot to get a credit. This would cost hundreds to have a plumber come do this, and in addition HD says they dont have this model number so we can not return it there. No use to have a 12 year warranty that doesnt actually help at all. What a rip off, Dont buy Rheem!

I tried to leave a review on Home Depots website about my negative experience with Rheem water heaters. Both times my review was not accepted due to not meeting quality guidelines. Im starting to wonder how many other reviews arent showing from their site. We have had a lot of experience with Rheem. They used to make one of the best water heaters available even though they made all of the GE water heaters that had so many quality issues, the Rheem tank brand was still a good tank. Since Rheem no longer makes water heaters for GE and now has the Home Depot contract they have folded many cheap tanks into them.On two separate occasions we had purchases a Rheem short 40 gallon water heater when a standard water heater would not fit. Both times we made the long haul of getting the tank and just as we got them out of the box we found big dents on both heaters. They had to be returned because while it was only the shell that was damaged, we had concerns about the condition of the glass liner.

My water heater failed and after contacting Rheem tech support they agreed that the unit needed needed to be replaced. No one in my region [including Rheem] had any replacements so Rheem told me to purchase one from Home Depot, which I did. After months of emails, submitting numerous copies of documents and hours of phone calls I received a check for 1/2 of the replacement unit value. Rheem informed me that the unit wasnt worth what I paid for it. My cost would have been the same from Rheem, Home Depot or a Rheem authorized dealer. Rheems lifetime warranty is a lie. Its a great water heater, but you would be better served buying a decent quality unit from another manufacturer. If I had known that they werent going to honor the warranty I wouldve bought a different brand.
