4. Quiet Operation: The RP16 is designed for quiet operation, featuring features like a scroll compressor and a composite base pan to minimize sound and vibrations.

5. Environmentally Friendly: The RP16 heat pump uses eco-friendly R-410A refrigerant, which is better for the environment compared to older refrigerants.

6. Reliable Performance: Rheem is known for its dependable heating and cooling products, and the RP16 is designed to deliver reliable and consistent performance year-round.

7. Diagnostic Alerts: Some models may come with advanced diagnostic capabilities to help identify and address potential issues, improving overall system efficiency and reducing downtime.

9. Warranty: Rheem typically offers a limited parts warranty for registered products, providing additional peace of mind.

It's important to consult with a qualified HVAC professional for proper installation, maintenance, and any repairs. They can assess your home's heating and cooling needs and help you determine if the Rheem Classic Series Two-Stage (RP16) Heat Pump is the right choice. Rheem Heat Pump Model RP16 Error Codes

Rheem heat pumps may use error codes to help diagnose and troubleshoot issues. The specific error codes can vary depending on the model and type of your Rheem heat pump. It's crucial to refer to your heat pump's user manual or technical documentation for accurate information about error codes.

Here are some general Rheem heat pump error codes and their potential meanings. Keep in mind that these are generic examples, and your specific model may have different codes:

P: High-Pressure Switch Open (HP) - Indicates a high-pressure condition that may require attention. This could be due to issues such as a refrigerant overcharge, blocked condenser coil, or a faulty high-pressure switch.

LP: Low-Pressure Switch Open (LP) - Indicates a low-pressure condition that may be caused by issues such as low refrigerant levels, a refrigerant leak, or a faulty low-pressure switch.

F: Defrost Control (DFC) - Indicates a problem with the defrost control. This could be related to issues with the defrost thermostat, defrost control board, or sensors.

H: High-Pressure Sensor Fault (HPF) - Indicates a fault with the high-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a high-pressure condition.

L: Low-Pressure Sensor Fault (LPF) - Indicates a fault with the low-pressure sensor. This could be caused by issues such as a malfunctioning sensor or a low-pressure condition.

C: Open Circuit or Sensor Fault (OSF) - Indicates an open circuit or sensor fault. This could be related to various sensors within the heat pump.

Other Codes: There may be other codes specific to your model, and their meanings will be outlined in the user manual.

Always refer to your specific model's documentation for accurate information about error codes and their meanings. If you encounter an error code on your Rheem heat pump, it's advisable to consult the user manual first. The manual typically includes a troubleshooting guide that may provide steps to address common issues associated with specific error codes. If you're unable to resolve the problem or if the issue persists, it's recommended to contact Rheem customer support or a qualified HVAC technician for assistance. Model 13PJL60A01 - This A/C unit was installed in our new home in December of 2010. Not even 5 years old it has 3 A/C Freon leaks -- The first in the air handler coil which had to be replaced and two in the outside unit in the same location. Each time the unit has been repaired we have had to pay $540.00 for the Freon replacement. That is over $1,600.00 in Freon alone. A new unit only cost just over $2,000.00. This unit is prone to leaks and vibration. Rheem seems to want to do nothing... I Rate Rheem extremely poor on quality.

We have a small space under our house for an electric water heater. We dont have much of a choice. We bought a Rheem 2 years ago, and have to replace because it was leaking out of the seams. We got a new one home, and opened the box. The bottom of the heater was all bent. Had to take it back. Waiting for the replacement, as I type. I told the husband to have them open the box at Home Depot, before he brings it home. Next years investment will be to replumb for an outside or garage heater. I am putting a curse on the people who built this house, and am beating myself up, again, for buying the place.

I am very dissatisfied with my tankless water heater. Our problem of no hot water started in June of 2011 and we continue to have this problem. Tankless water heater would work for few weeks then start flashing error code 11 or 12 on the monitor, and no hot water. This issue continued on and off for a while and now, it has gotten worst. Weve contacted Rheem customer care several times and each time, they all seem to tell us different reason for our problem. It really is a challenge trying to see if we will have hot water each day. Just recently, Rheem representative told my husband the gas line pipe is the wrong size. Thats not true because weve already checked the line, valve, gas flow, etc. They dont know what the heck they are talking about. They must read the problem manual given to them when they were hired. Weve also had Rheem authorize repairer looked at it. They have no idea what or how to fix this problem. Between Rheem customer care and Rheem authorized repairer, I dont know which one is worse because they are just one sorry ** after another. My husband and I are seriously thinking about switching back to the good, old-fashion water heater because we never had any problem with it. When our friends talk about installing tankless water heater, we tell them dont get Rheem tankless water heater because it sucks!

From tools being taken from our home, to now the third water heater going bad plus on top of that being told that it would be two weeks till someone would be here to replace it! I have stage 4 Cancer that has spread to my bones making it long and difficult to get a shower among other things, can’t/ shouldn’t be without hot water!

Consumer Affairs is obviously an unreliable source rating this product at over four stars with nothing but one star reviews as far as the eye can see. I’ve been doing plumbing for 15 years. I will never install one of these pieces of junk ever again. Don’t waste your money. This is the fifth heater I’ve been stored and had trouble with within two years from Rheem. Their product is junk. They made water heaters in the 1980s-90s that not only operate better than the 2021 models but can outlive their life by 10 years plus. Don’t be scammed by Rheem. They make these things to break so they can make more money off of you. Also don’t be scammed by this unreliable source that cost their self consumer affairs who obviously does not care about the consumer. Read the reviews consumer reports. Where the ** do you get your information. Apparently whoever works at this consumer affairs place can’t count 4.8 stars and nothing but one star reviews you can read them for days. Hey morons for one star reviews doesn’t equal four stars. You’re a ** idiot

Purchase gas water heater August 2020. May 2021 gas valve became faulty. They shipped one out (2-4 days) and finally had someone schedule to come out after 7 days with no hot water. They proceeded to tell me that the gas valves for this unit manufactured between April and October 2020 are faulty and are having all kinds of issues. I was assured that the one they replaced in May 2021 that the issue was fixed and I would not have this problem. Now it is December 2021 and the gas valve has broke again. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. Customer service is extremely rude and unhelpful and they do not care whether you’re out of hot water or not. All they do is make excuses. I will never purchased one of these again.

I have purchased Rheem Tankless Water Heater. Their warranty states 5 years. My heater broke recently and had to be replaced. Rheem renewed their water heater since my purchase and new unit had to be installed. Even though it was under warranty I was charged $100 extra to get the new unit. Their warranty is not really good if they charge you for the new unit especially when there is an issue with their own equipment. On top of that I had to pay labor again which was not covered under the warranty and I understood. I contacted Rheem directly, however, they pointed me to their distributors and it is not up to Rheem while the distributor clearly pointed to Rheem.

We purchased a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater yesterday and had it installed by a licensed plumber this afternoon. Install went fine. Turned the water on and then the electric on, and waited a bit so the plumber could make sure all was well. All was not well, the water did not heat. Our plumber ran through the typical diagnostics and came to the conclusion the water heater was bad. Yes, it was bad, but the Rheem customer service was worse. This is a brand new water heater and they have said it was 3 different problems and they will send out a part. We wait for the part and then they will send a tech out--so we could be without hot water for more than a week--they could not give a darn. Brand new and this is the customer service you get--please folks, do not buy a Rheem. This story has a happy ending only because Home Depot in Holiday, FL is awesome. They are replacing the thing and going above and beyond for us. THIS is why we only use Home Depot. Rheem, take a clue from Home Depot and amp up your customer service or you wont have any customers to service.

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in November 2018. Immediately after installation I got an error message that the lower temperature sensor was damaged. I called Rheem immediately. After more than 3 weeks and more than 5 phone calls they still cant get a technician to fix the problem (I live in Portland, Oregon).Last phone call they said to me that they got a technician in Buffalo NY. When I told them, for third time, that I live in Oregon, the person decided to escalate the ticket to her supervisor. This guy (supervisor) send me a list with technicians who work in the area where I live. I called the first person in the list. He said to me that he does not work with Rhemm (!!) Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call scam company. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the stress that Ive been going through. Today is December 23rd. Christmas with no hot water. I purchased a Rheem 50 gallon water heater in 1/2017 with a 6 year warranty from Home Depot. Its leaking & cant be fixed by me. I called Rheem today & you have to have serial # in order for warranty to apply. The Serial # doesnt come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if theres a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they cant track down by your name only the model # & yes, thats right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

Dont buy the Rheem water heater for the warranty, it is worthless. It only covers parts, which leaves you at the hands of the thieving plumbers. The ignition and thermostat system is overly complicated and may fail. Mine lasted 5 years (12-year warranty). The plumber wanted $350 to repair the unit, the part (covered) is $112. My son who lives out of state does home repair and said it was a 15-minute job. I am trying to order the party under warranty but that is not going well. Brand new this tank at Home Depot is $850 installed so its smarter to get a new one. So buy the tank you think fits your need but dont get excited about the warranty, its not going to help much.

Rheem 80,000 BTU heat pump - I purchased a complete HVAC package two years ago through an installer in my area (Loveland, Ohio). The product is a high efficiency Rheem. Almost immediately and continuing today, the heat pump shuts down because of condensation working its way into a vacuum line that monitors the gas valve. I have been told that this problem is particular to Rheem (and they are aware), but have not corrected the problem. I tried submitting my problem and complaint to Rheem on their website but when I press the submit button, nothing. The comments go nowhere. I have turned the gas valve a 180 degrees on its bracket so the tube has a slight back flow. Im hoping this helps eliminate the problem. I will never purchase another Rheem product again.

We installed a brand new Richmond 40 Gallon (Rheem) water heater which we purchased from Menards. It has a faulty Thermal shank. This has left me (and a renter) out of hot water for 3 days, while waiting for the part to arrive. Unfortunately no one has the part in town and there are no service technicians for the Saint Paul Minnesota area. I have called 15 plumbers off the list that was sent to me and I had difficulty finding one who will come out on short notice. I will not trust that I can have someone arrive after hours (@$259 an hour) and still be reimbursed. I will have a person tomorrow morning, but that means I will literally be boiling water for my renters bath. I am not looking forward to the paperwork I need to fill out for my claim. And I am disappointed that I will need to wait for my check to clear as proof of payment before finishing my claim. This is just more of a time delay to an already time consuming situation. This purchase has hurt my rental business. I will encourage others to buy another brand - especially Rental Managers and landlords who cant afford this type of hassle. I wish I could have just returned the product, but it is already filled with water and the gas and water lines are installed. I dont dare try to haul it back to the store for fear that it would be damaged on the way and then Id have an even bigger drama on my hands. And one more frustrating bit to this is the wait time when calling in. It was near a half hour. (Though the service line is faster).

I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.

April 25, 2015 my plumber installed a Rheem 40-gallon H2O Heater bought at Marina Del Rey, CA Home Depot at my Santa Monica rental house. The water did not get hot & we assumed it would in several hours. My tenant called me April 27th that the water still was not hot & observed a big water leak coming from the unit. My usual plumber who installed the unit was 100 miles away working & unable to arrive. I called RHS (Reliance Home Services), they arrived in 30 minutes & determined the H2O Heater as defective. My tenant was very upset and demanded emergency replacement now. Reliance informed me they could replace the H2O heater within the hour and guarantee hot water and a working H2O heater. I went online and found other complaints of Home Depot Rheem 40-gallon H2O heater. I always thought Rheem was a good brand. I read Home Depot is purchasing low quality Rheem H2O heaters. I could not take another chance of getting Rheemed by Rheem as other angry Home Depot consumers of Rheem H2O heaters describe their frustration. So I incurred a 2nd H2O heater expense & installation with Reliance for emergency service. Although, the tenant and I were pleased to finally have hot water within the hour! I feel as others that this is totally unacceptable to sell bad products! I was unable to send pics of receipts due to my malfunctioning VZ cellphone!

I purchased a Rheem Paloma tankless water heater in November 2012. The unit had a bent exhaust pipe right out of the box. The seller sent a replacement and I contracted with a plumbing company to install the unit. Additional parts were required just to adhere to basic code requirements. The unit oozed an oily substance and the power quit halfway through a cycle (fun times when taking a shower). They said to send the fail code and I have not heard anything back for more than 10 days (I had included photos also). The unit also emitted an oily substance that beaded up and so now Im reluctant to use it at all. Not having a potable water source in a suburban home is a real downer. Im taking water samples to the County Water Health Department tomorrow to see what substance is in the water. The installer I hired has now passed on doing anything further, left the job, cleaned up his mess and waived his installation fee for fear that he might be linked to this product. Rheem has admitted that the unit is not in production and out of warranty. Its another reason to never buy things like this on eBay. Based on the other posts on this site, Rheem is displaying behavior that needs to be well publicized to avoid rewarding this kind of corporate behavior to those of us in the consuming public. Rheem has a list of other tankless units posted that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and mine does not yet fall within that list.

I posted a complaint on here on September 19, 2013 after having to have Freon replaced in my unit for the second time (summer of 2012 & Sept. 19, 2013). The unit was placed in service on 4-25-2011. It is now 4-11-2014 and the blower motor is out after the unit ran on a prolonged base because the condenser shut off due to LOW FREON. It now appears that we will need to have the Freon recharged and the blower motor replaced. It is NOT acceptable to have to spend $300 - $1,000 every summer to keep an AC running - ESPECIALLY one that is less than 5 years old. It seems that Rheem will replace the coils (that they know leak Freon) IF the customer pays to have a technician make a service call, place the coils in water for several days to locate the leak and they are able to verify it to Rheems standards. Then, the customer must pay to have the technician make another service call to replace the coils. ALL Labor is on the customer, not to mention the fact that the customer is without a unit for several days during the process! Shame on Rheem! They know of this problem, but are doing nothing to make it right.

Similar to some of the stories I have read here, I had the displeasure of owning a Rheem Power Vent water heater. There was trouble from the start. Ive previously spent close to $700 on labor for covered repairs.” Today was the last straw. The blower was gone again! It’s another $350-400 in labor to replace. We told them to yank the Rheem and give us something that would work. Here is the list: a blower (twice), a valve that went bad, and something with the electronic unit all inside of five years! Sure, the part is covered, but I cant afford this piece of junk. Until this water heater, I had owned three others at various homes over 17 years and never once had a repair. Please pass the word about Rheem water heaters. They should be making things right.

Ok out of all the reviews Ive read heres one that you should all read if youre going to buy a Rheem. I replaced a GE for the Rheem and in less than a year I had 6 instances where I had no hot water and each time was when it rained. Now I had my handyman install it (who wouldnt right). Wrong... Had Rheem plumbing contractor come out who told me unit was flooded because the housing unit was not secured right allowing water into the housing unit which collected in the water heater... My warranty that expired on 2028 was now null and void one year into ownership. I strong urge everyone to not buy Rheem. The fine print is where they get you where it hurts. I had to pay $250 to get it working again but if it goes out again Im screwed with no warranty. BUYER BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY... I will be filing a complaint with Rheem and Better Business and Consumer Affairs. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN EVER!!!

Your company sucks and take advantage of their customers. You guys sold me a faulty unit. I followed your directions to a T. After months and months of back and forth emails I finally called today. Spoke to 4 people and the last person I spoke to was so rude and refused to let me speak to a manager. Im out $1500 for a water heater that last 3 months. This is complete ** and not sure how you guys still have a company. I will do everything in my power to make sure everyone knows my issues. And after looking into it Im not the only one with this issue. You guys should be ashamed to have such a ** company. And to take advantage of people in times like this. 100% the worst company I have ever dealt with. And to not be able to speak to a manager and I even let them know I have numerous emails since February 2021 regarding this issue. I have all my documents of all conversations. So this will be taken to the next step.

My basement flooded nearly three years ago. I had to replace the water heater down there. I know you buy a Rheem Platinum Performance because Home Depot said it was the best. Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. How does that work/ Dont buy a Rheem unless you want a low quality product that the company wont cover when it is broken. In my case there was a real chance of a house fire. Be Warned!

Purchased a Marathon 85 gallon Water Heater from Home Depot and had to wait three weeks for it to be shipped from the east coast of Georgia to Columbus Georgia. After receiving the tank, and getting it installed, the “Vacuum Relief Valve” malfunctioned, saturating my drywall (which I had to replace). Called Rheem and was initially told it would be 5 to 7 days for replacement parts. Having explained my situation, they overnighted the parts. 30 minutes after receiving the NEW PARTS I installed the new Vacuum Relief Valve, and wouldn’t you know it, it Malfunctioned once again all over my drywall. I called Rheem and was informed that I would have to pay out of pocket for an authorized rheem service technician to come out and fix the NEW water heater. So, I remove the hot water tank and returned it back to Home Depot. If you are in the Columbus Georgia area and in need of a large water heater, do not buy a Rheem 85 gallon Marathon hot water heater that is discounted in price. It will cost you more than you know. The Rheem Marathon 85 gallon Water Heater is a piece of Plastic JUNK.

I purchase my unit in 2013 and have had trouble with it ever since. The heat works fine, but the a/c does not work for an entire season. When it was first installed it would not stay on because of the water sensor. I had to reset the sensor multiple times, until they finally replaced it. Turned the unit on in 2014 and it didnt come on. They had to come out three times that summer. Now its 2015 and again the unit would not come on. They got it running. A month later it is frozen up because it is leaking. They put in a sealant and now another month later it is leaking again. They refuse to replace it and just keep wasting my time fixing it.

Hot water heater is gurgling and making thudding noises. Home Depot, Rheem and the General Contractor that Home Depot sent out to install not standing behind warranty. My Husband was on the phone for two hours today with all three companies. We built a new house in 2013. Our Rheem 50 gallon water heater is only 8 years old but of course, this happens right after the warranty is expired. We finished our basement about a year ago. Thanks to this water heater failing, we now have to replace not just the water heater, but all of our beautiful new hardwood flooring, the carpet in the bedroom and some of the drywall. Original water heater = $1,000. New water heater = $1,000. Homeowners insurance deductible = $1,000. Time off from work to remove everything from the basement to pull up the flooring = $840. Total cost of owning this thing = $3,840. Steer clear, folks.

Purchased a new Furnace and Air Conditioner in 2013 and have had nothing but problems. In 2017 the air conditioner was leaking gas and needed a new evaporation coil. At first we were told that the coil was not covered under warranty but after some investigation on our part we figured out that it was indeed covered, however we had labour cost of over one thousand dollars. This year during a bad cold snap the furnace broke down and needed a new blower. The blower had to be ordered from the States which took 2 weeks to arrive. The blower is not covered by warranty so we were on the hook for the labour as well which was again well over one thousand dollars. Now 2 months later the furnace has stopped working once again and it appears to be the same issue so it’s a cold waiting game until after the weekend to find out what’s wrong this time. Honestly unless you have an unlimited budget for repairs I would stay well away from this product!

I purchased a Rheem Smart water heater back in November 2018. In August 2019 the water heater control panel shorted out and fried control panel. I need to add I did not pair my smart phone to my water heater. I set the temp to 120 and went about my everyday business. I called the tech line around 2 pm and was told I had to wait for a tech to arrive to fix the water heater. That was okay until they stated there were no techs available in my area, so they offered me allowance of $125.00 to find a plumber to come out and fix the water. Well problem 2 is there were no parts available in our surrounding area and I would have to wait for 2-3 days to receive the replacement part. Of course I was not going without hot water for that period of time and a plumber around here is $185.00 an hour from 8-5 and $277.50 for after hours. After they caved and got Home Depot to replace the water heater I downgraded to the basic and once installed it began to leak. Frustrating as it was I returned to home depot with the water heater at 9:50 pm and was given another water heater. Problem 3, I received the replacement control panel 4 days later and called three times asking to return it and Jesse says just throw it away, no need to return it. Rheem must be making money hand over fist to throw parts away like that. Im a home depot customer and I buy what they sell. Hopefully they will start carrying another brand for customers to choose from. I do not recommend this brand of water heater for any home due to the poor customer service they provide. Seven hours to replace a water heater. Thank God Im a do it yourself-er and dont have to depend on anyone to repair my home.

10/11/19 I bought a Rheem 50 gallon hot water heater with a 10-year warranty. Model #: PROE50 T2 RH95. Serial #: Q401935323. 10-Year Warranty #:02-0415647. Installation by the Water Heater Guys was done professionally. When I tried to register the 10-year warranty, it was entered incorrectly as a 6-year warranty. Both Rheem & The Hot Water Heater Guys say they agree that I have a 10-year warranty, but my registration can’t be changed to show it. I must keep my water heater stickers & invoices to prove I bought it with a 10-year warranty, if I ever need it. Sound true? It is!

I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didnt heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information. I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesnt work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call. The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheems quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as thats what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

Please before you buy a Rheem HVAC, research the quality of their coils. A year after purchasing a new system I have been experiencing dirty sock syndrome. It is a known issue with the coil and there is a known fix, the coils need to be dipped with in a bronzing solution or an epoxy. This prevents mold and bacteria buildup on the coils and then spewing the spores throughout your home. Rheem calls it an environmental issue and refuses to reimburse for the costs to have the problem remedied. After installation either a UV light or a Global Plasma System at my expense, my issue may be resolved, again Rheem refuses to reimburse my costs. I am also reading that their coils have a problem with corrosion and failure, once again a problem corrected by dipping to prevent the corrosion. Buyer beware, the limited warranty is just that, extremely limited, no labor to replace defective parts, no Freon replacement costs on defective equipment, no labor to correct their known issue with dirty sock syndrome. I guess they think these things just magically fix themselves. I bought my unit from an authorized Rheem dealer and was told these were some of the best units on the market.

Bought new water heater Tuesday, got the 9 year warranty. Guess what, new water heater doesnt work. Friday called toll free number see if warranty would cover parts that need to be replaced and work. Rheem calls back to inform us that we live too far away from a tech to send one. That we would have to call the plumber ourselves and pay for all work. We then send the invoice to Rheem and they decide if they will reimburse us for it, but only up to $125.

We also have a water softener to mitigate leak issues. Left on hold multiple times for long periods. Obviously symptomatic of the many issues with their cheaply made products. Would never buy from this company again and recommend avoiding at all costs. Their reps are not courteous and don’t give a crap. Rheem wanted me to bring back the broken water heater to the place of purchase. Of course the previous plumber who installed it bought it so no clue where they purchased. Why would I need to return a broken water heater??? Answer, to make it difficult for customers to get compensated. The warranty is terrible and not worth the paper its printed on but more importantly, the water heater broke after only 4 years. Terrible product, customer service and terrible company.

Had to replace our original HVAC which was 13 yrs. old. Went thru Home Depot and they suggested RHEEM and was installed by ARS. It didnt work right away, and I have to tell them that we were moving into a hotel since they guaranteed that it will be done within 24 hrs. or they will move us into a hotel. Well, they worked overtime the next day so they didnt have to move us. Installed August 2013 and we had cooling problems April 2016, HVAC repairer said low on freon, warned us that it might be leaking. June 2016, cooling problems again, same HVAC repairer came and said it was blocked drain and suggested we avail of their maintenance plan and we did.August 22, 2016 cooling problems again. HVAC repairer came at night and concluded that coil has a leak and was 90% sure it was the coil inside because the outside unit coils didnt have any signs of leakage. For this visit we paid $177 labor and freon refill. So far we have spent $700 for the three visits. To replace the coil it will cost $500 plus and that is already with our membership discount. This RHEEM brand is a piece of junk and reading through all other reviews, Im so mad that I didnt do my research and trusted the Home Depot specialist. The only consolation I have is that I took a maintenance plan so at least I get a 15% discount every time they have to do repairs.

I needed to purchase a new natural gas water heater because my Rheem / Rudd brand started leaking. It was installed in 1992 so I figured I couldnt go wrong buying another Rheem. Bought it at the big box store, took it home and had it installed within an hour. I tried to start it up using the easy start system, but the pilot would not stay lit. They idiot proof these new water heaters so you cant actually access anything or complete any kind of small repair. All over the box, the tank, and instruction manual it says that I cant return the unit to the store. I have to call their 1800 number and get assistance. This is where things get interesting. I called the number and explained what was wrong. The support person walks me through the same stuff thats written in the instruction manual. He comes to the conclusion that the unit is defective and tells me a work order will be created and within one day someone will call me. Of course a day passes and no one calls me. So I call Rheem and they tell me that a local company has the work order. Called the local company and they tell me that they dont have the part to fix the tank and they can’t come out until Rheem sends ME the part. I call Rheem, and of course they tell me that they wont send me the part and that the local company has to first come out and diagnose the problem. At this point I am angry and explain to them that it is the middle of winter, I have two small kids and just want hot water. I ask if I can return the tank to the store and they tell that they wont authorize a return until the unit gets diagnosed. I call the local company back and they tell me that Rheem is giving me the run around and that the part is probably on back order so it could be weeks before I get the problem solved. He tells me I would be better off dealing with the big box store. I called the big box store and explained the situation and they agreed to take the unit back as defective. The big box store and the local company apologized. Rheem were jerks. I hope the company goes bankrupt and all of their support people lose their jobs and have to go without hot water.

We bought a water heater in 2009. 2014 - realized it was leaking all over the garage. Called the big box store from which we purchased and was told we would only get $140.00 credit towards a new water heater. To my understanding GE and Rheem are no longer affiliated so the warranty becomes pro-rated. Therefore the 12 year warranty we thought we were getting is no longer good. I called the 800 number on the water heater and talked to 3 different people. 2 were very rude. The last lady I spoke to gave me an address to write a letter and complain. We purchased A Rheem Water Heater, model #6G40-36F3 at Menards. My husband installed it and as he tried to light it the ignitor would not work 90% of the tries. Called the phone number for Rheem in a big sticker on the side of the heater. It says not to return to the store to call them for assistance. It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available. Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone. When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheems attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Two months after installing a water heater we got awful sulfur taste and smell. We tried the recommended treatment using hydrogen peroxide to kill the bacteria. This worked for 3 months and then it came back, so we treated the condition again with peroxide. This worked for another 6 months. By now Covid virus was in effect and we could not buy the peroxide anywhere. We noticed water on the floor and I also noticed the electrical breaker had popped. Taking the top cover off, I found the insulation covering the top element and thermostat burned and the wires black and corroded. I spoke to Rheem 3 times, each time a different person, but got nowhere. All they offered was a new element even though the whole insulation within the unit was totally wet. Based on the corroded condition of the wires, the thermostat and the element, we refused their miserly offer. We finally contacted Home Depot and spoke to someone knowledgeable, Les, the plumbing manager, and he agreed to call Rheem. After getting nowhere with this company, he spoke to his manager and suggested replacing the heater at their cost which they did. We hope this one is better but we dont expect to have the same life as our previous heater that lasted 28 years.

I Purchased a new Rheem 3.5 ton heat pump system in 2011. In 2014 the A-Coil in the air handler started leaking freon and the system shut down. Rheem replaced the part under warranty but would not reimburse me the labor or the freon which cost $450. Then in 2016 the replacement coil started leaking just like the 1st replacement. Same story, Rheem replaced the part and I was out another $450. Now its November 2018 and the 2nd replacement coil is leaking and I have no a/c. I have heard from HVAC repairman that there are many other people in the same situation and Rheem refuses to make any changes or improvements to the coil, so I expect this will go on indefinitely. Stay away from Rheem!

6 years ago, I purchased a RHEEM water heater from Home Depot which lasted only 3 years with only two in the household. June 18, 2015, I purchased an American Standard from a private retailer after researching the best water heater to purchase which also lasted only 3 years. It was a terrible, stressful ordeal with both companies. Rheem and American Standard each sent parts for their 6 year warranty stretching two weeks until Im stressed to the point of purchasing a new one because none of the parts solved the problem. Apparently this is what these companies count on... the customer getting fed up to the point we choose to buy another water heater for $800 every 3 years in exchange for a hot shower!!! I am a single parent working part time for LAUSD on summer break with $766 to my name. There goes our summer savings... again. Time to try another company. Im convinced all are the same... they may last 3 years with if youre lucky. Its like pulling teeth to get them to honor the warranty, and you will not get a replacement without spending a ton of money for a licensed professional in the process, which is why Im buying another brand. The water heater I had when I moved here lasted approximately 12 years with no problems. Old school. They dont make them like they used to. See you all in 3 years.

Failure in 5 years and 10 Months and a 6-year warranty not honored: The Rheem water heater was installed when the house was finished in July 2006. The water heater failed in May 2012, having rusted through the bottom. The product was designed to fail shortly after the warranty date. Water heaters used to be considered durable goods, and that level of quality needs to be our expectation, given the nature and cost of the product.Rheem confirmed that the unit was still covered under warranty. However, the warranty terms and the procedure for replacement are unconscionable to the point where it would be more cost-effective to replace the unit at your own expense. So, we have a non-durable good and a difficulty to enforce warranty. Both of these conditions are illustrative of failure (and indicative of our national culture, which encourages corporate theft through planned obsolensce).I have sent a certified letter to Rheem on these issues and concerns. Lets see if the company will stand by its products. The reviews on this site and others dont give me much hope in this regard.

We had a new high efficiency 50 gallon #CNRHE50 serial #A251507425 Rheem hot water tank installed in 2015. March of 2018 we noticed that we had no hot water and there was some leaking in the pan below. Our installer thought it might need a Valve replacement but after further investigation he found it needed to be totally replaced. Thank goodness we had a full warranty for replacement. We are now out of pocket $551.25 for service charges. We are not happy and will never get another Rheem hot watertank again!

We had our entire system installed 6 years ago in 2008 after purchasing our home. We change the filters properly and even cover the units in the winter as they system is only in use for the summer. Suddenly we noticed that the first zone wasnt working. We called a tech and he diagnosed that the blower motor in the air handler must be replaced. After only 6 years? And of course, the part can only be ordered from Rheem and will cost us about $700 to fix all said and done. I wrote to Rheem about my displeasure and almost a week later a woman named Gina called (from Rheem) and asked for the units serial number and some other information. Then she told us that since it was Friday there wasnt much she could do and that she would call us back. That was almost 2 weeks ago! Weve left messages for her several times and nothing. Not only does this company make a crap product but they also seem to be lacking customer service as well. And judging by all these negative complaints, Rheem appears to care less about its image. So, this is a warning to anyone considering putting Rheem products in their home...DONT DO IT. I will be sure not to allow Rheem products in my home - if I can help it - ever again.

After three years I had to replace my Rheem gas water heater. Due to issue in the gas chamber and it having a leak. After going back and forward with customer service for four days. They finally agreed to replaces it. Since it was still under warranty. But first I had to pay a license plumber to speak/confirm it to them. They didnt even asks for his license #. Two weeks later Im back with no hot water. Due to new water heater having issue with gas chamber AGAIN. I had City Public Service come to check my gas lines/flow. They places a red tag on the heater and stated it was the CONTROL VALVE. Once again customer service said it could not be the control value. Due to it being new. They required a gas pressure count. Which is not cover under the warranty. Im just ready to give up and just go buy a new one AND IT WONT BE RHEEM!!!! But this is what they.

We purchased 56 Rheem water heaters for our senior housing community in Eudora Kansas. 12 of the tanks have had failures within the first 4 years of service. None of the plumbing contractors want to work on the Rheem water heaters because they were purchased from Home Depot and are told that parts are not easily available. We are slowly switching out the tanks to another brand that was recommended by our plumbing contractor. We will no longer be purchasing any Rheem water heaters.

October 2012 Plumber purchased a RHEEM water heater at Home Depot for my rental property which failed to work after installation. RHEEM did send their authorized plumber who adjusted the pilot tube to fix delayed ignition problem, at no cost to me. Now 3.5 years later the pilot light wont stay lit and a plumber diagnosed a possible thermocouple problem. Since my tenant wants hot water now I dont have the option to have a part ordered that may or may not fix the problem. The water heater is being replaced today with a plumbers grade water heater. We bought ten of the direct vent models for our 10 apartments and they turned out to be the worst nightmare we got into. Everyone has failed either with hard lockout or leaking at the drain valve. Their technical support is always looking to deflect the fault to installation, venting or something else. Their use a plastic pipe for drain valve which cracks and leaks. We was on the phone every other day to asked for support. Some of the techs came to their sense and request brass drain valves, many of them just insisted on sending the same plastic valve again. They never tested these drain valves. Everyone has a hairline crack which leaks out water making a mess. Every time this happens, it takes them a couple of days to send replacement. After I gave a scathing review on their website, they quit talking to me. I now pledge to make sure consumers do not buy these direct vent heaters again from Rheem. Please avoid at all costs!

Build our house 4 years ago. Our builder used at the time Rheem AC units, needless to say he has wised up since then. Just days after moving into a brand new house with brand new Ac in June, our unit would not work. Repair #1. Couple more repairs after that. Have had several repairs within the last 4 years also. This year has been by far the worst!!! I have had 7 repairs so far this summer season and am currently today October 23, waiting for yet another part to be replaced. Not say same part each time either. Multiple parts have been replaced each summer for the past 4 years. Alternative, replace unit. Really after spending $360,000 to build house. Parts are always on back order with Rheem, the parts you get from them seem to fail quickly and multiple times, and when the repairman has to make multiple calls to even get the parts department from Rheem to call him, theres a problem. Multiple repair men licensed in HVAC have told us and neighbors that Rheem units are crap and to stay away. Rheem your products are absolute crap, and your parts dept and service are even worse!!

Worked great for about 4 months. Then started throwing error codes and kicking off the compressor. So it would only run in electric mode, which is triple the operating cost. I contacted Rheem due to the warranty (be prepared to be on hold 40-60 mins each time), and was told they would send a contractor out. Well, 3 weeks later, I contacted them AGAIN since I had heard nothing, and was told that there were no contractors in my area so I had to do all the leg work to find a contractor who would diagnose it, pay them upfront and I would be reimbursed. Okay, so be aware that most plumbers will not TOUCH a hybrid water heater, whats less try to diagnose or repair it. I finally found one, submitted for the reimbursement (still have not been reimbursed), they sent a replacement control board, had to pay the contractor AGAIN up front to replace the control board (still have not been reimbursed for this second bill), which did not fix the problem.Today, I called Rheem AGAIN and was told that I have to uninstall the water heater myself, drag it back to Home Depot to get a warranty replacement, and pay another contractor up front to reinstall the new one. This has been the most horrible experience and horrible company Ive ever had to deal with for an appliance. When it works, its amazing, but this POS only lasted about 4 months and is not worth the stress or additional money you will have to pay to fix it once it stops working. DO NOT BUY!

Hands down the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they cant even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didnt receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak Im literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.

Long story short, back in 2010 I had the chance to have a brand spanking new Rheem oil burner installed for free to replace a very good, reliable and well-running oil burner, which was installed way back in 1979 as a new unit and never had a problem with it. Boy do I wish that I still had that unit, over this four-year old piece of junk. It might have been a little tired, as I was told, but so what, after 31 years - what do you expect - its normal wear and tear. From day one, upon the installation of this Rheem unit, it has been a problem with the smell of raw, unburned oil coming up through the heating vents. It doesnt happen all of the time, but it shouldnt be happening at all. It is nasty when this happens and you never know when it will strike again. I have contacted the clowns who installed this unit, of course they portray the three stooges 21st century style - they are totally clueless in Massachusetts. I wont even allow them into my house for a third time. I contacted the public assistance agency who was instrumental in my receiving this wonderful product. I have called them only six times in the last four years concerning this problem. I am told consistently by the same person, each time, that there is nothing that they can do about it. I have asked them if anyone else of the approximately 120 homes that have had these furnaces installed has had this problem with their unit. I am told no, that I am the only one. I suppose that this is possible, but a bit unlikely, I feel. Even though this agency takes the lowest bidder, I dont know who or what to believe, or not. I have only contacted Rheem four times in the last year and you never hear back. So now I am thinking BBB, possibly FTC, or some other applicable agency. Maybe sue Rheem, the installer, or the assistance agency. It is hard when you dont know what to do. I suppose that I could go to one of my elected officials, I am so sure that these underpaid $120,000.00 per year cronies are real interested in helping out with something like this. Thanks for reading this.

It was very easy to install but once it was, the bottom element began to leak. I called Rheem customer service. DO NOT EVER CALL THEM. What a waste of time. They do not care that the unit leaks, refuse to get you help. Home Depot only sells the unit and will not get involved to help with any issues. DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM AC as they are unscrupulous! I bought and had installed a new RHEEM AC in 2014 that came with a 10 year parts warranty from RHEEM. Because the HVAC company that sold/installed the unit failed to register the unit with RHEEM within 60 days, which I had NO WAY OF KNOWING, RHEEM ONLY honors 5 years of the warranty and not 10 years. Rheem would NOT bend on these rules even though I am the original homeowner with the unit currently installed nor would they allow me to speak to any RHEEM executives. Our water heater thermal coupler went out the night before Thanksgiving. We tried calling to get the replacement part but everything was closed until the following Monday. We called the tech support and the customer service said that he has been doing his job for so many years and it was not the thermal coupler and said it was the gas control unit. We took his word since he said he was the expert. We paid to have it expedited for next day. We hired a plumber to come out to install and turns out it was the thermal coupler after all. I paid for the plumber for the service call. I called Rheem and after over an hour waiting was finally able to talk to the manager and he agreed to refund the expedited delivery charge. Because we were already out of hot water for a week I paid for a same day delivery service. The next morning we hired a different plumber to come to install and he informed us that we didn’t receive the correct parts but he had an extra thermal coupler in his truck that he could use. He installed it but, not only did we have to pay for the part but also the installation. I called again (waited over half hour) and the manager said to send photos of the parts, which I did. He sent an email for me to call to discuss.Again, waited on the line only to be put through to someone else, went through the whole story again only for them to tell me I had to speak to another manager. Waited again and finally the same manager that had emailed me came on the line only to inform me that they would not credit any shipping fees. I offered to compromise and pay for the same day service but he refused, was condescending and not willing to help at all. I highly recommend you stay away from any RHEEM water heater products. Rheem does not cover labor to install these parts even though all parts are warranted for five years. Customer Support gets you nowhere. My system is four years old. I suppose Rheem expects the consumer to dump the system when the five-year warranty expires and buy a new one. We purchased a RHEEM 4ton Heat Pump on 6/6/2011. In the 5 years we have owned this system, we have replaced the heat pump on 5/31/2013 and 10/13/2013. We have replaced the coil on 12/5/2015 and we have just been informed on 7/16/2016 that we need to replace the coil again. It is on order. Additionally we have had numerous repair calls for spot welds and recharging of the Freon. It has been a nightmare owning this system. I would discourage anyone from purchasing an HVAC system from RHEEM manufacturing. The warranty implies or leads to an expectation of a reliable product. However this is not a reliable product. Had their service techs come and try and fix. Called Rheem Numerous times and they said it was the gas control and sent me a new one. The tech comes over and installs the new gas control and guess what still doesnt work and I have no hot water. I call Rheem and they say we will send you another gas control. We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I installed a Rheem 40 gal gas hot water heater on Monday June 7. It would not stay lit. I had the local gas company come out and check the output of the gas meter on the house and then at the heater itself. Everything checked out ok so on Friday, June 11, only 4 days after buying the unit, I called the technical helpline at Rheem. Caitlyn diagnosed the problem as probably being either the thermal coupler or the gas valve and that Rheem would send out the parts. The problem was it would be 4 to 5 business days. Thats now an additional week without hot water on a tank which has been installed for less than a week. Expediting the order will cost me for the additional shipping expenses. The tank is installed in a small closet which is a confined area in which combustible natural gas can accumulate. When I contacted customer service they tried every way they could to get out of sending a replacement part. Because of my experience and the seriousness of the issue I decided to do a little bit of research and discovered that I am NOT the only individual who has had this problem.I used to install hot water tanks when I was younger with a plumber friend of mine and I can tell you that I have never heard of this issue before. It just did not happen on the older non digital gas valves. I have since found out that these Honeywell gas valves are notorious for breaking down and they are used by many different hot water tank manufacturers. The leakage issue is a serious problem in a confined space natural gas can easily blow up and cause a fire. To make matters worse if you live in the country and use propane which is heavier than air the combustible gas will build up around the combustion chamber making an explosion very likely. These malfunctioning Honeywell valves are all over the internet and YouTube and have been a well known problem by the manufacturers for several years yet nothing seems to be done about them! I would advise people to avoid any tank with these potentially dangerous malfunctioning valves period. I would also advise people to avoid Rheem products in general based on my customer service experience. They should have been happy to replace the valve considering the dangerousness of the situation instead of asking so many questions and trying to get out of it. They dont have the customers best interests in mind based on my experience.A lot of the issues with this companys hot water tanks are with the Honeywell gas valve and malfunctions of said valve. Neither company seems to be interested in fixing this problem. I would stay away from these hot water tanks and these valves in particular if I were you! You just shouldnt have to deal with these kind of problems.

Had a Rheem air conditioner 2 ton 16 SEER installed, but very unhappy. It runs every 8 minutes and the air never feels crisp, only humid. Im worried about having mold and electric bill being higher since it runs so much. Wouldnt have done this had I known about the new rheems.

My 50-gallon water heater leaked all over the lower floor of my home while under warranty. I spoke with Rheem and they told me because I replaced my heater with another brand heater, I violated their warranty. So if it were up to them, I would have called them instead of a plumber.
