Suggestions on Dishwashers that actually work?
We bought a $900 dishwasher 3 years ago. It's slowly getting less useful - and washing things less effectively. It's been serviced three times and have now sunk in more than we paid. 3 kids, had pets (since rehomed). The model has a food grinder/garburator, but that seems to be window dressing.
.
As a kid, I grew up with a nice 1984 Maytag that ground up pretty much anything other than bone, and survived a house with 2 adults and 8 kids. Mom had it serviced twice before we sold it in the mid 2000's after they moved after kids all moved out.
.
At what price point do I need to buy something that can actually handle some food bits (we do scrape, but kids don't always do a good job) or long hair that accidentally gets in?
.
Seems like the new dishwashers (1) don't actually garburate anymore and (2) are designed to fall apart in 3 years. My understanding is that Maytag got bought out and now make lower quality dishwashers, and have heard most brands are not good these days.
.
I am tempted to buy commercial grade, but don't want to worry about putting in a 240V outlet, or shell out over $5000.
Question from user Raging_Dragon_9999 at Appliances at reddit.com.
Answer:
When I had my last one serviced, the repairman said to not get the food grinder as it causes the dishwasher to not last as long. So, when I got my current one, a basic model Bosch, it didn't have the grinder, just a filter and it's been my longest lasting dishwasher thus far. I've had it 9 years and my previous ones lasted 3 years each.
