What are some energy-saving tips for my dishwasher?
Posted On: July 15, 2023

Using your dishwasher efficiently can help save energy and reduce water consumption. Here are some energy-saving tips for your dishwasher:

Load the Dishwasher Efficiently: Make sure to load the dishwasher efficiently and only run it when you have a full load of dishes. Running the dishwasher with a full load maximizes its capacity and reduces the number of cycles needed.

Scrape, Don't Pre-Rinse: Modern dishwashers are designed to handle food residue, so there's no need to pre-rinse dishes under running water. Scrape off excess food instead, and the dishwasher will do the rest.

Use Energy-Saving or Eco Mode: Many dishwashers come with an energy-saving mode or an eco mode. Opt for this setting as it uses less water and consumes less energy during the wash cycle.

Use the Delay Start Feature: If your dishwasher has a delay start feature, use it to run the dishwasher during off-peak hours when energy rates may be lower.

Skip the Heated Dry Cycle: Instead of using the heated dry cycle, open the dishwasher after the wash cycle is complete and let the dishes air-dry. This can save a significant amount of energy.

Use Shorter Wash Cycles: For lightly soiled dishes, choose shorter wash cycles. Shorter cycles use less water and energy than the heavy-duty or intensive cycles.

Clean the Dishwasher Regularly: Regularly clean the dishwasher's filter and spray arms to maintain its efficiency. A clogged filter or spray arms can decrease cleaning performance and increase energy consumption.

Use the Correct Detergent: Use dishwasher detergents that are suitable for your dishwasher and the water hardness in your area. Using the correct detergent ensures optimal cleaning performance.

Check the Water Temperature: Ensure that the hot water supply to the dishwasher is set at an appropriate temperature (usually around 120°F or 49°C) to effectively remove food particles and grease.

Consider Upgrading to an Energy-Efficient Dishwasher: If your dishwasher is old and inefficient, consider upgrading to an ENERGY STAR-certified dishwasher. These models are designed to use less water and energy, leading to cost savings over time.

By following these energy-saving tips, you can make your dishwasher more efficient and reduce its environmental impact while still achieving clean and sparkling dishes.
