All dates are estimated. Back in 2009, we had Vailes install a new Trane Heat Pump (outside unit and Air-handler in attic) along with all new flex duct work. After a full summer of running the unit - "the dirty-sock syndrome" smell came about in our upstairs. We called Vailes and they brought their Trane Rep, Ken **, out to investigate. He tweaked some of the duct work and airflow (speeds) on the air handler and also coated the coils so that it would not make that smell. He also "redesigned" the ramp so that water would not flow over the ramp...Everything seemed okay - until we had a Mold specialist check out our entire house. He found Mold in the Trane air handler and in the duct work. He found no other issues with the house. We contacted Vailes and shared the Mold report with them. They came out and looked and took pictures to share with their Trane Rep (Ken ** out of Richmond). They came back with a solution of cleaning out the air handler for estimated $500.00 and installing a UV light for another $1,000.00. I replied back with the following request to Vailes: "Our game plan is to counter with: to have a Trane Rep come out and look at the situation. Possible solutions: Air flow is set incorrectly (after talking with other large heating and cooling companies). Another red flag: Having 3-4 degree variances in rooms upstairs. Some rooms have an extreme blast of air flow (especially in the winter). Our home was inspected by a professional environmental technician and the house is clean. The only issue is the air-handler in the attic. After discussing this situation further with my wife, father, Riddlebarger, and Landis Heating, they all suggested that Trane should come out and redo/check the air flow. They also think it could be a potential trunk issue as well. I was going to have my wife run with this but I don't want to add anything else to her plate. Will you please contact Trane again with our circumstance? We need to fix the issue and I would like for Trane to be there."Vailes shared this request with Ken ** (Trane Rep in Richmond) and Ken replied back to me with the following: "The mold that is growing in the home is a product of the environment that the equipment is in. The Trane (or any other brand equipment) does not produce the bacteria; it already exists in the structure. The effort that needs to be put in is to address the source of bacteria whether it is infiltrating form the crawlspace, attic, basement, windows, fireplace, sewer system, or from the people that live in the house. The bacteria growing in the AHU is happening because it is a nice environment for it to grow (warm and moist) depending on the season but it is not the source. There is nothing that Trane can do to address the structure or the infiltration to the home. Vailes has made some suggestions about accessories that can be added to a system to help manage the bacteria (UV lights, and electronic air filters); these may help reduce the potential for growth in the unit but the bacteria will still be in the home."I was not satisfied with his response so I brought in several other HVAC dealers to analyze the situation. They have all pointed to the duct work and airflow. I could get another HVAC dealer to redo all the duct work but that puts me in a major financial crisis. I feel like they (Vailes and the Trane Rep) should have looked at the situation closer. Obviously, they knew something was wrong from the start when they coated the coils and redid the airflow and ramp shortly after it was installed. I feel like the coated coils only "masked" the issue. For some reason, we are getting mold in the air handler. Any suggestions? One particular HVAC dealer said that he firmly thinks it is the duct work - because the duct work going to the returns are the biggest he has ever seen on a ton 1/2 unit. He also said there is no trunk line (all lines are coming straight out of the small boxes on the air handler...). Hearing from 4 other HVAC dealer that they think it is the duct work - tells me something. I am meeting with two other HVAC dealers this week as well to see what they think. But it is very disappointing having to go to other dealers to fix this problem. We turned the unit off once the mold was found (back in April). I have a wife and 4 children and need to place some urgency on this.

We purchased a complete Goodman system from our HVAC company just a little over 5 years ago. It has already had a total system failure twice. The first time, the part had to be ordered and took about a week to get. This time, the blower has failed, and has to be replaced. The expected time is 2 weeks with no system. I can't believe at only 5 years, 2 major components fail. We live in a metro area of over 1,000,000 people, I don't know why parts are not readily available? That must be a sign of the volume of sales they have. In our opinion, these are very very low quality. No decent system would have 2 complete system failures at 5 years. And to think that a blower motor would fail at 5 years is a clear sign of the poor quality workmanship.

We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014. It was installed by an authorized installer who has been installing Carrier systems for 45 years. The unit is supposed to be state of the art and cost over $10K. But in 2015, one year after it was put in place, the system broke down in the summer and a motor had to be replaced. Now in 2016, second year after the installation, the system broke down again and another motor has to be replaced. And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in today's world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days. When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasn't even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and that's all they can do. She basically said "Why are you wasting my time by calling me." without using those words.Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldn't expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. I need to replace another old HVAC system soon and I never thought I would get anything other than Carrier. Now I will look into what other competing products are out there.

Payne is a good air conditioner company, their HVAC systems seldom let you down. When I read reviews about it though I found a lot of negative reviews and wondered if the quality had been watered down. I ignored most of it though because sometimes the installation is the problem. I replaced my old Ruud ac with Payne and so far it has only proven me right. The system was installed about a year and a half ago and all I have done is routine maintenance. Do your homework before installing your HVAC system because most of the time your installer could have done it wrong.

We bought a brand new town home in 2015 with a Carrier air conditioner that was made in 2012. After only 7 years the oil and fluid leaked out causing the unit to seize up and die. Really disappointed in the overall quality and durability of this product. Would not recommend this lemon.

I purchased an HVAC system in 2013, which broke before it was even 2 years old! The repairman mentioned that he had to completely refill the refrigerant because it had all leaked out. He said that it leaked out because the unit's factory weld joint was faulty, causing the refrigerant to leak out. He mentioned that this absolutely should not happen to a system that is this new. He mentioned that I should contact Goodman for reimbursement. I contacted customer service, who asked that I submit a letter with the serial number of the unit and a copy of the repair bill for reimbursement. I received a reply via letter, which was very obviously a canned response, telling me the same thing I was told on the phone, that the warranty does not cover refrigerant, labor, etc. Only parts. The company stated in the letter, "It is impossible to predict the life of any one part." That tells me that the design, test, and quality assurance divisions are severely lacking. Goodman obviously does not care about its products or customers. I'm still waiting on a return call from customer service.

Bought Goodman. Never again. 2 burnt blower motors and now a defective evaporator coil and on top of that my installer said it’s all warrantied through Goodman for 10 years but now Goodman says they will not warranty the units for 10 years; only 5 because a form was not filed within 90 days from install. This is bull. It’s because they are in a class action lawsuit about having lot and lots of defective coils and so they're trying to get out of covering their 10 year warranty on a technicality and because they know their stuff will only last for 5 year and now turning the blame on homeowners for their installing company negligence in not filing their paperwork timely by saying, "Oh that’s the homeowners' responsibility to file the warranty paperwork and if they don’t we will penalize them for our defective products."Let’s face it. Paperwork or not it should not affect the warranty. If their stuff was built right from the beginning and they felt a 10 year warranty was proper then filing a form should not matter. It does not change the MFG date or the install date or the way they make their products. They have not heard the last from me. This is just a start.Buy Trane not Goodman and save your self lots of headaches. Dealing with Goodman’s customers service is a joke just a headache. I’m not asking for labor charges or the 10 lbs of Freon that was lost due to their defective coils just to stand behind their 10 year policy and provide the parts to replace their known bad inferior parts for the 10 year period they promised. If you're looking for HVAC work do your homework. Check out the net for all the people having issues with Goodman then buy something else more reliable like American Standard or Trane. I wish I did.

3 ton 16 seer heat pump 15 kw heat pack and it's been awesome. All I can say is, treat the guys doing your install like family and they will do you a good job. I feed them supper and we watched a movie after. I live in Waco, TX. It gets very hot here. It was 113 last week with 60% humidity. We keep the air on 65 and it has no problem. It cycles on and off like normal. Our energy bill went from $340 to $360. Now it's $120 to $130.

We have had the same ac unit for the last 18 years. After such a long time a replacement is usually a better bargain than repairing. So we went ahead and bought this Ruud. I like how quiet it runs. It functions perfectly and does take much to run so the utility bill is low. This is what good manufacturing is all about.

Installed a brand new HVAC unit in 2013. In 2018 the outdoor line cracked twice not covered under warranty. $400 to fix. In 2019 the compressor went bad. Apparently you have to register both the unit and the compressor separately in order to get the 10-year warranty. Which in my opinion is a scam so that maybe you'll miss it and they can reduce the warranty to 5 years. At 5 years and 11 months $1,000 compressor went bad. No help from Trane at all. $1,900 bill this time, and only a one-year warranty on the new compressor. Buy another brand.
