I am a HVAC service provider. I have a customer with a 3 yr old Trane unit under warranty. I ordered a replacement part under warranty. The part came in. I went to pick it up with the failed part at the local Trane supply in Chesterfield, Virginia and was told I still had to pay for a warranty part and would be reimburse later. They are fooling themselves if they believe that they have the best product and are engaging in false advertising when they say nothing can stop a Trane. The failure rate of their units are the worst in the industry.

I just opened this website and noted that most of the Carrier reviews were terrible. This is a more advanced system than most HVAC repair companies have knowledge of or experience with. We had a bad experience a couple of summers ago (the a/c was not cooling) and it all came down to the one question I failed to ask the 2 repair companies that were sent to our home by our home warranty company: "Does your company INSTALL Carrier systems?" Well, (after the 2 companies had spent countless hours and replaced the evaporator coil--which did not make the problem go away), that one little question did the trick! The warranty found one company that actually had installed these systems and they came out and after an hour of hooking up the compressor to the tech's computer and consulting with the engineers in Houston, the problem was identified. They replaced the compressor and that was that. We love it. The comfort it brings to our home and the money it saves with the highest efficiency system... We only wish we would have gotten a zoned system. I would recommend Carrier---but you have to get the right people to be your service technicians, preferably the company that installed it...and just take really good care of the system--do all your check-ups regularly. It is not inexpensive to purchase, so why would you just hire anyone to service it?

I had a Comfort 14, 50HZC installed this past week. It replaced a 26+ year old Gettle Heat Pump. Now this new heat pump is way cooler and more efficient for sure, but way louder than my old Gettle. The only con and the reason for the 3 stars is for the high noise DB this new heat pump puts out, a very low rumble hum and you can hear everywhere in the house. You cannot hear it outside, cannot even hear it while standing next to it on the roof, but it's there. Must be a vibration going through the unit, through the metal frame, through the roof. Now I am extremely happy the way the New Carrier Heat pump works, but I hate the low high DB rumble sound. The HVAC Guy from Qual Tech claims it's the compressor. Well if it was, I should have heard it 12 inches from it on the roof, nope no loud sound at all on the roof, matter of fact it's quieter standing 12 inches from it on the roof than it is inside the house. If the rumble was lower or less DB's or just quiet I would give the Heat pump a 5, but cant when a 26+ year old Gettle makes less noise and vibration that a supposedly state of the art New heat pump.

After spending over $16000 for two Trane A/C XL 20i units from Protocool Air Conditioning, 18 months later they said they made a mistake and billed me another $1000. In the first year, one unit stopped cooling and they could not find small leak. Even though it was under warranty, they just refilled it at different times, and I have had the problem every 4 months. I called a different dealer, and he found the leak and has to replace the COIL for another $800 for labor, which is no longer under warranty. Also, in this same period of time, the entire duct system filled up with water from condensation and cost me another $1800 to repair and replace. I have since learned this is a common problem with these units. Trane offers no service help at all. They are impossible with which to get in touch. They only send you to another dealer, which is hit or miss whether they know what they are doing.I suggest you do not waste your money on these expensive units when a Ruud or Rheem unit for a quarter of the price will operate fine with less maintenance. My old Ruud lasted over 15 years with very little maintenance. I also suggest you do not deal with Protocool Air Conditioning in South Florida. I still feel they overcharged me and then gave bad repair service. If anyone would like to talk to me personally or see my Trane A/C units, I will be glad to talk to you before you waste your money.

We are an a/c company and have to deal with Trane from time to time. Whenever we have to buy a part, exchange warranty parts or even purchase new equipment, we have to wait on the phone for over 30 minutes to be helped. And in their service stores, it's about an hour wait. On top of that, they charge us "marketing" fee for purchasing their equipment. As if they are doing us a favor. There is no sense of urgency with this company. What a poor service.

My Rheem central a/c is 4 yrs old. I've had an issue with a leak in the outside unit and now I've had to replace the inside coil because of a leak. I've been around Rheem for 40 yrs and they have been reliable in the past but not now. If this company is cutting corners to make more profit they are headed down a dead end road. If this inside coil goes out again I will not get it replaced by a Rheem product (which the part should be under warranty) which means I will in effect be buying an inside unit 3 times and outside unit twice. I'm disgusted to the max and will not recommend Rheem to anyone nor will I use it again as well!!!! Rheem you have my email and you can contact me at will. DISGUSTED IN BUSH, LA.

Lake Lure NC. After two years turned on A/C for recently completed bonus room for future retirement house. Unit started short cycling. Two tech visits later condenser coil found to have two or more leaks. Contact with Carrier customer service and they admit product defect and hide behind one year labor warranty. They are sorry I am dissatisfied. I own four Toyotas because they stand behind their product. Last Carrier product I will own. I called by HVAC contractor in Fl and he is replacing my failing unit with Rheem. Sorry Carrier, customer service doesn't take an Einstein.

I Purchased a new Rheem 3.5 ton heat pump system in 2011. In 2014 the A-Coil in the air handler started leaking freon and the system shut down. Rheem replaced the part under warranty but would not reimburse me the labor or the freon which cost $450. Then in 2016 the replacement coil started leaking just like the 1st replacement. Same story, Rheem replaced the part and I was out another $450. Now it's November 2018 and the 2nd replacement coil is leaking and I have no a/c. I have heard from HVAC repairman that there are many other people in the same situation and Rheem refuses to make any changes or improvements to the coil, so I expect this will go on indefinitely. Stay away from Rheem!

We installed a new expensive Carrier heat pump/AC system in 2002. Over 14 years we had to replace the Bristol compressor 10 times. Our HVAC service company and Carrier said we were the "only ones" who had this problem and they did not know why. All lies as I now know. The compressor failed again this year (2016) and the HVAC service company we use said they can't replace the Bristol compressor this time due to a lawsuit between Carrier and Bristol, so we had to replace our whole system. We would never install Carrier again. Carrier charges huge but gives you junk. If we hadn't taken out a $900 10-year labor charge warranty when we bought the system, we would have been out thousands of dollars to replace 10 compressors. Don't ever buy Carrier! They are no longer using Bristol compressors, but the substitute compressor brand they are now using is reputed to be just as bad.
