Product Reviews:

Yesterday around 5:30 pm I heard a loud popping sound and looked up. Saw sparks coming from the lower level of my home. Upon further investigation, I started to see and smell smoke. Once I figured out where the smoke was coming, I quickly discovered the source of the smoke, which was from my Rheem hot water heater that had caught on fire.

My RG240T6N 40 gallon gas water heater was installed only 3 months ago and I've been far from satisfied with it. It has a Honeywell electronic-type gas control valve. The manual says the LOW setting runs approximately 55 degrees fahrenheit. Well, not mine. Not by a long shot! When my water heater is set on the lowest setting, the hot water coming out of my faucet is appearingly scorching hot. I called Bradford's tech support and he was far from sympathetic. He told me there was nothing else I could do to adjust the gas valve and he was there to support licensed contractors and not homeowner me. He said I had to hire a licensed plumber to look at it before Bradford White would even consider doing anything for me. He never even asked me which model I have and said he's never had anyone complain of this issue. I then volunteered my model number and he answered extremely dismissively. He was extremely standoffish and I told him this experience is driving me to never purchase Bradford White again. He said if that was my decision, so be it. My previous Reliance water heater was still working after 18 years of perfect service. I was wrong to think a new Bradford White would serve me well. I was just as wrong to think I could get any satisfaction from calling them.

This has been the worst experience with a product that I have ever had. Approximately five to six weeks ago, I observed the Honeywell thermostat blinking four times in one of two of my American Water Heather Co. gas water heaters. Approximately five weeks later, I observed the same four flash in the second American Water Heater Co. gas water heater. I contacted America Water Heater Co. customer service warranty and advised them of the issue. They advised that they would send out replacement thermostats for the two water heaters. After installing them both, approximately two to three weeks later they both went out again back to back. I contacted customer service again in reference to the issue. I asked if I had flushed the water heaters prior to install, which I did. At this time, customer service advised that they could either overnight another thermostat or replace the entire water heater. Figuring that this was entirely unusual that both thermostats go out twice, I opted to have one of the water heaters replaced first. I was given a warranty exchange number and advised to contact the place of purchase, North side Plumbing Supply in Houston Texas. North Side Plumbing Supply advised that they did not have any water heaters in stock as the new water heater regulations had recently taken place and would be backordered until the end of the month. Two other distributors of American Water Heater Company water heaters in the Houston area said the same.I contacted Customer service back and advised them of this. The customer service agent advised me that I could take to water heater to Lowe's for the exchange. After spending most of my off day today (5-11-2015) taking the first water heater out, Lowe's advised me that the exchange was only for Whirlpool water heaters. I was very upset as there was no going back, with the water heater strapped down in the bed of my truck. I contacted customer service again and spoke with ** (5-11-2015 at approximately 3:14 PM CST). I explained my situation and desperation as my two kids and wife were not going to be as understanding about the lack of hot water in the house. ** refused to help me only referring me back to the company of purchase. I advised her that no one seemed to have the water heaters in stock in the Houston area. ** continuously stated that she did not know what to tell me.When I asked for a supervisor, desperate for a solution, ** continued to argue and talk over me while on the phone. I repeatedly asked for a supervisor and ** refused continuing to argue with me stating, "They are just going to tell you the same thing." The customer service for American Water Heater Company was extremely unprofessional and had little regard for customer service or families in need of basic hygiene. I have no idea what I am going to do at this point. The water heater is still strapped in the bed of my truck. This is a pretty bad feeling. I am very disappointed in the way that my family has been treated by American Water Heater Company and will not purchase their products in the future.

The Bradford White Gas Power Vent water heater failed without warning overnight causing extensive flooding and water damage to a finished basement. Water heater was almost 10 years old. Should be built with a safety water cut off valve that ceases water supply to water heater if incoming water rate is greater than exiting flow.

Bought a water heater on May 5th for 539.00 and was unable to get hot water all the time. After many days and dealing with Lowe's which did not help and Whirlpool, I discovered that the unit I bought had no dip tube to bring the cold water to the bottom to be heated and thus provide hot water to the hot water outlet on the heater to the rest of the house. People at Lowe's had no dip tubes and really have no knowledge of what is going on as the people at Whirlpool whom I called.

We purchased a brand new water heater at a local hardware store, Reliance Water Heater, in October 2013. It worked for about a week before we began having issues. We kept running out of hot water about 5 minutes into a shower, sometimes less. Then, we had to wait hours for more hot water. After readjusting thermostat several times, we finally called their customer service department. We were told we needed to replace the thermostats. After that was done, it worked for about 4 days. Called customer service again, replaced heating elements. Worked 4-5 days, called again. Well, test the voltage, pull this out, what do you see? Check this again, reset that, oh, you probably got a faulty thermostat, get another one. Then, they tell us that we need to hire a licensed plumber to come look at it, on our dime! My reaction, You have got to be kidding me? This is a brand new water heater, has only worked 15-20 days since October, and they will not replace it! I am absolutely disgusted with this product and their handling of this matter! We were finally fed up, drove 4 hours round trip to nearest major city to purchase another brand! The nearest town, which is only 40 minutes away, has only 2 stores to purchase water heaters, and they both carry the Reliance brand only. Do not purchase a water heater made by Reliance!!

I purchased the Whirlpool Flame Lock water heater (model BFG1F4034T3NOV) in May of 2008. Within a little over a year, it stopped working. I was able to get the manufacturer to send out a repairman and install a new kit. It worked great for 2 years. Now, here I am again with the pilot light going out daily. So I went to Lowe's and purchased the thermocouple, and a friend installed it. We still have to light the pilot light twice a day to have hot water for showers.

Purchased NEW unit through a marketing company on Ebay. Verified with Rheem the Serial number had never been registered. Installed unit and just in five years the heat exchanger has failed within the parameters of the 12 year warranty. I have gone back and forth with this company and realized they do not stand behind their products over technicalities. They call the business that sold me the tank and the Stainless vent kit a third party vendor that is pure manure! I have the receipt the vendor wants to help and the Rheem company said they are out of the picture! It's between me and the vendor! I smell manure again! Any store selling manufacturers products are not liable for the warranty...the manufacturer is once you produce a legit receipt. Conclusion: RHEEM HAS NO ETHICS, INTEGRITY AND ANY CUSTOMER ORIENTATION! Learn from my experience>>> why would you buy their product after reading this review! I have emails of this short version of a review I am posting>>> Learn from others misfortune & experience

Would not buy this brand again. Since I got this BW HW heater 1.5 years ago, the temp control has been terrible. It's either way too hot or not hot enough. Move it just a scootch, and it changes unpredictably. I had the installer check it and they said nothing they can do. Very annoying. Either I have to have way too hot water, and be paying to have it way too hot, or not hot enough. Terrible quality.

Two months after purchasing three Rheem hot water heater on July 6, 2015, the water started smelling like rotten eggs in two of them. Contacted Home Depot where I purchased them. They told me the heaters were still under manufacturer's warranty. I contacted Rheem numerous times via email on Rheem's website and did not get a reply. Home Depot then gave me their number. Spoke with a representative who told me it was not their problem it was my water. I explained about the other heater that did not smell. She said I would have to purchase a chlorinator for each heater about $250 ea. and sent me an email with information where to buy them. I said it was the anode rods and they said that was not covered under the warranty. After that, a friend would flush the heaters with hydrogen peroxide and that would help until I went out of town. I was tired of asking him to do this so contacted Home Depot again on Jan. 8, 2017. This time they told me to call Asurion, the extended warranty I bought. That was a huge waste of time and money as they gave me the runaround too! After reporting Home Depot to the BBB, I was contacted and they contacted Rheem. Rheem called a plumber, told them to call me to call them to open a claim with them. I called Rheem and they told me the same thing they told me a year and a half ago. So I'm back to square one.
