We recently had our 2nd Bradford White water heater installed. The old one lasted 20+ years and was still working. We decided it should be replaced before something else happened so it made sense to get another one when the contractor, Service First in Newtown, PA, recommended it. Love that they're American made.

I had a Bradford White water heater installed 19 months ago by a lic plumber. The unit failed and flooded my garage and had to be replaced by another lic plumber that Bradford White warranty dept referred me to. It cost me $840 to have it replaced. Bradford White's warranty does not cover labor which I was fully aware of. However, my complaint is that no one there seems to care or have any empathy or capacity to apologize or make things right with the consumer who has spent this kind of money on labor twice in 19 months. Very poor service experience. No one in the warranty dept even wanted details of my experience with their product. How can they possibly improve and make a better product when they don't care why it failed.

I bought a 40 gal. Whirlpool water heater from Lowe's. It was just outside the 6-year warranty when the pilot light went out and won't relight. I called Whirlpool. They are about as worthless as box of rocks. They refuse to replace the thermocoupling free of charge or at least no shipping charge, when they know in fact there is a problem. It was because no class action lawsuit was filed. It's too bad for the customers. I wished they would have just said: “lady, please take your business somewhere else.” It would have made things easier. Or, better yet, they should just put a sign on their water heaters in the store stating: “If you have problems with our product, sorry about your luck. ** you and have a nice day.”

I wanted to buy a Rheem Lifetime warranty Marathon hot water tank. They advertise that it will never need changing and will save you so much money in the long run. I was so excited I would never have to change it again... it seemed worth the extra cost... for sure. Luckily I remembered that my insurance requires that hot water tanks be changed every 10 years so I asked the insurance if they will accept this lifetime unit forever and they said NO. My insurance told me that 99% of insurance companies will still require that the unit be changed after 10 years regardless of the manufacturer's warranty claims. Note: I am in Canada. Buyer beware!!!!

We have lived in our home for 18 years and we are now getting ready to install our FOURTH Bradford White Hot Water Heater. For some reason, these particular water heaters do not last very long. Our unit has been installed three times by a professional plumber and the same one is getting ready to install the fourth one. It is a High Efficiency Model and if I had to do all over I would never use this particular brand again. We are in a pickle as we are in the process of trying to sell our home and we definitely need to have a Hot Water Heater!!!!! I believe that these models should last longer than they have. All I can say is "Buyer" beware if you choose this particular model to use. Right now, I am in the process of cleaning water up in my basement so that the water doesn't get into my finished family room wall and I am very frustrated. Look at other models before buying this one.

For many years, I have worked on and tested water heater thermocouples. I have a lot of experience with this. I have checked around many of the wholesale supply houses to find a simple part needed for this brand/manufacturer appliance. Johnstone Supply, a national wholesale distributor, Grainger, etc. cannot get these parts. You must call Whirlpool and wait on the phone and give the operator the full story about what you found and how you tested the water heater only to be told you don't know what you are talking about. I was told that if the pilot lights and stays lit for even several minutes, that it is not the thermocouple but the gas valve and they will not sell me the part and recommend either I purchase a whole gas valve assembly and revised thermocouple or they would not sell me anything. Then I got told that I am on a waiting list to be called for availability of the parts at some time within the next 24 hours. Or just buy a new water heater from us with a warranty. Really? This is why you should not even have wasted your time with these people and move on to a better future. I asked,"Can I purchase a box of thermocouples for this type of water heater with a left hand thread?" The answer to this was, "No, we will need the serial # for each unit that has had any part put on it." Move on, I say. This was a big waste of time by me, the plumber, and my customers' happiness.

I purchased a Whirlpool Water Heater BFG1J5040T3NOV from Lowe’s and have had numerous problems. The biggest issue is having to replace the thermocouple three times. It works fine for about a year then I need to replace it again. This is tiresome and wasteful and Whirlpool should be ashamed. As a company that once had a high reputation, this is sad. I would not recommend buying anything from them, especially their water heaters. After repairing this one, again, I will look elsewhere for the next one.

After going on internet and diagnosing the thermocouple on my American Water Heater as bad by testing the thermocouple with a meter, I then tried to replace the LEFT-THREADED thermocouple. I could not find the right one, so again I go on the internet and found that AWH used left-threaded thermocouple for three years before a class-action lawsuit stopped the practice. Until I went on the internet and found this information, I was unaware of it and had not received notification about the replacement kit. The website for AWH did have a phone number and they were very helpful when I called. Since the water heater was still under its 12-year warranty, they did supply the conversion kit for free; however, two-day delivery service did require my forking over $32.00 for shipping and handling, which I felt they should have paid since it was the design defect of the piece that caused a problem and was supposed to have been replaced as part of the lawsuit.Fortunately, I am rather handy at doing things myself, or else getting a plumber or gas technician to do the work for me would cost around $100.00, for which the company of course doesn't offer to pick up the bill. Hopefully when the parts arrive, it will prove to be as easy as the internet seems to make it sound to replace it, and I will have hot water again! If not, I will post again and let you know how displeased I am, and if the company resolved my problem with having to pay to have a plumber or gas technician to do the conversion for me.

I purchased the American Heat water heater less than two years ago. The water heater started going cold and then hot. After about three months of this, I called the company and told them what was going on. I was told to dismantle it and bring it in. I told them that I would either have to hire a plumber or an electrician to do this and then pay them again to put it back on after they had fixed it. I also told them that I was a recent burn victim and I had just spent six weeks in the burn unit and could not bring it in. The water just completely died this evening and I am out all this money for a brand new water heater.

12/16/19 paid 2600.00 for Rheem water heater - now 1/2/20 and we still have no hot water. Rheem was to send replacement part on 12/19/19 - we didn’t receive until 12/31/19. That part installed and still not working. Now Rheem sending another replacement part. Rheem will NOT replace this brand new unit as long as they can keep sending replacement parts!! This is not acceptable but they do not care how long we have been without hot water!
