Manufactured Sept 4, 2018; failed October 9, 2018 - I thought I bought a premium water heater with a good reputation and service. The lower heating element failed (error code A105), which they say they will send me, and then I can either hire a technician to replace it or I can empty the water heater and do it myself. This is not the warranty I expected. This water heater was just installed, and they sent a bad product. I expect Rheem to bear the entire cost of fixing it in the first year -- not to send junk and make a customer bear the cost of repairing their mistake.

I just got gas hot water heater in October 2015 and already having problem with unit. Called to get technician to come and look at - only be told technician will not come in my area. So now I have to come out of my pocket to have someone replace a part when I am under warranty and be reimbursed within 4 to 6 weeks. First I advise not to go through Home depot cause even though they install, they do not service. Secondly, run when you hear Rheem. I thought one of top companies for heaters, but found customer service practices nightmarish. Why would you ever do business with technicians who would not service your customer areas. I will be writing whomever I have to, because that is just lousy customer service. The customer have to find a technician to fulfill the labor part of the warranty. Whatever happened to our country where you buy a product and a so called solid company stands behind it and makes the customer experience pleasant at best. I should have gone through PSEG - at least I know I could get service in my area. Just a damn shame.

Your product and customer service is a complete joke. I purchased one of your hot water heater in March. From day one we had problems. Finally after a week of no hot water and your customer service department playing games and the service company you referred playing games, we were able to get a new hot water heater. With that said, that hot water heater has been leaking since day one. I called and they sent me out a replacement part but, still it is leaking. I then called in today and spoke to a miserable supervisor named, Shakir.I called to get service along with request that my warranty that will expire in March be extended. He was rude and to the point of advising no and that he will get the service company out. For 2 hot water heaters to go in less than a 9 month period. What is that saying about your product. Also not extending the warranty even shows your own company doesnt stand behind its own product. Unbelievable! I will never purchase anything with your name attached to anything again!

I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.

$10k paper weight/heat pump. After 27 months our 5 ton 15 seer heat pump failed. We were told the reversing valve failed allowing all of the Freon to leak out. I called customer service who opened a case and told me someone would call me back. I have been waiting 7 business days for the call... I have called back 2 and I am directed to their voicemail. I would not recommend Rheem/Ruud.

Two months after installing a water heater we got awful sulfur taste and smell. We tried the recommended treatment using hydrogen peroxide to kill the bacteria. This worked for 3 months and then it came back, so we treated the condition again with peroxide. This worked for another 6 months. By now Covid virus was in effect and we could not buy the peroxide anywhere. We noticed water on the floor and I also noticed the electrical breaker had popped. Taking the top cover off, I found the insulation covering the top element and thermostat burned and the wires black and corroded. I spoke to Rheem 3 times, each time a different person, but got nowhere. All they offered was a new element even though the whole insulation within the unit was totally wet. Based on the corroded condition of the wires, the thermostat and the element, we refused their miserly offer. We finally contacted Home Depot and spoke to someone knowledgeable, Les, the plumbing manager, and he agreed to call Rheem. After getting nowhere with this company, he spoke to his manager and suggested replacing the heater at their cost which they did. We hope this one is better but we dont expect to have the same life as our previous heater that lasted 28 years.

We got a brand new water heater in 2017. Now in 2020 it stopped working over a month ago. We reached out to Rheem for a new thermocouple- per the machine error. It took several rude customer service representatives to get the part. Despite paying the extra 50$ to overnight the order, it did not arrive for two days. We had the plumber put in the new thermocouple and all was well....for a few days. Then a new error popped up high temperature sensor...a few rude Rheem calls later and another overnight (read: two days) package later, we get the part. Pay yet another plumber to put the part in and all is well...for a few days. The hot water stops again, the plumber comes yet again and the pilot light is three times as tall as it should be! Call some rude Rheem representatives and OH, they sent the WRONG PART AND WILL NOT BE COVERING THE PLUMBER INSTALLATION FOR THE WRONG PART THEY SENT!!?! Two days later and were still waiting for the overnight of the right part. Have never been more dissatisfied with a company and will NEVER purchase Rheem and will discourage EVERYONE I know from using.

I had a new water tank installed about a year ago. Recently the gas control valve failed (a known factory defect, per Rheem authorized dealers). I incurred an almost $400 labor bill to repair it. Was on hold for an hour and Rheem refused to offer any reimbursement for the labor. DONT BUY RHEEM! I have NEVER had a valve fail at all, let alone this quickly, on hot water heaters from other manufacturers. Would rate Rheem 0 stars if I could for both their responsiveness and customer experience.

I purchased a Rheem water heater in June 2014 from Home Depot. The tank failed several days ago. I tried warranty service over the last several days and I got a message it wasnt in service, try later... Or wrong serial number. Today I called the 800 621 5622 and got a customer service rep. He tells me to bring it back to Home Depot for adjustment. Home Depot doesnt deal with Rheem anymore. Cant even special order. Parts can only be obtained from their authorized plumber and any regular plumber wont touch or recommend Rheem for obvious reasons. Essentially Rheem warranty program is a sham. My recommendation: Dont buy anything from Rheem. Model # XG48TOGEN40UO S # RHUNM181401735 manufactured 29/4/14.

Ok out of all the reviews Ive read heres one that you should all read if youre going to buy a Rheem. I replaced a GE for the Rheem and in less than a year I had 6 instances where I had no hot water and each time was when it rained. Now I had my handyman install it (who wouldnt right). Wrong... Had Rheem plumbing contractor come out who told me unit was flooded because the housing unit was not secured right allowing water into the housing unit which collected in the water heater... My warranty that expired on 2028 was now null and void one year into ownership. I strong urge everyone to not buy Rheem. The fine print is where they get you where it hurts. I had to pay $250 to get it working again but if it goes out again Im screwed with no warranty. BUYER BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY... I will be filing a complaint with Rheem and Better Business and Consumer Affairs. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN EVER!!!

This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors
This water heater was installed in my new home by the building contractors plumber for around $800.+. I had no control as to the choice. It recently stopped working and I had a friend who is a certified heating and air conditioner contractor. He said that the heater is leaking from the top and fills up the blower and shuts off the exhaust. There as a safety will not turn on the burner. He removed the water from the blower and the heater worked for two weeks. Loaded up with water again. I never was given a copy of the warranty, so I did not know about the six years expected life on this expensive heater. I have had two other homes and never had a water heater that did not last 15 to 20 years and they did not cost $800+. I called Rheem, but warranty is no more, which would not have made any difference, from what I read from others that had the same model 41VRP4ON, and got no response. My heater has been fixed again and is expected to run for another two weeks, until the blower fills up again. When I finally give up on it, the service man says he is going to take it apart and expects poor welding by the manufacturer where the pipes goes into the top. No heater would leak from the top in less that 6 years if it was properly put together and inspected. I will certainly let my contractor as well as the others know about this brand, in order that others are not cheated out of their money!

I have had this water heater for 1-1/2 years and every 6 months have to have the igniter changed. Getting very expensive for the part and labor. I could have bought a new water heater (certainly not a Rheem though). They know they are having a problem with this so why aren’t they fixing it to make their customers happy. This Rheem gas water heater is CRAP. I always thought Rheem had a good name and quality product. Not anymore. Do not buy from this company. Only wish I had researched before I bought it.

16 year old water heat started leaking. I replaced it with a Rheem 50 gallon Power Vent Propane Water Heater. After 3 weeks it would only heat water to luke warm (tepid) then shut down. I read the bad reviews on this website and thought I made a big mistake. I bought it a Home Depot and had to drive 70 miles to pick it up. The Energy Dept created new standards effective April 2015 and there were only 2 in Southwest Ohio. Cant go without hot water very long (spoiled Americans). With all the bad reviews, why would HD carry this product?I called Rheem customer service and MY experience was the OPPOSITE of everything posted on this site. All were most helpful to troubleshoot. Sent a new pressure switch. I changed it and that didnt fix it. I am a very good DIY person. There arent that many parts to a water heater but a Power Vent heater is a little more complicated. I think I ended up (ultimately) speaking to 5 customer service people. The last was a guy that only advised on Power Vent models. He asked about the baffle in the middle under the Power Vent. I was sticking out about 1 inch but looked normal to me as I didnt know what was normal/abnormal. Apparently during the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati it worked itself out (it should be flush with the shoulder). I asked if I could set on its side during transit and the HD person said yes as long as I didnt set it on the side with the controls. Made sense but the baffle vibrated out a bit. The fuel/air ratio was confused. Anyway the last guy told me to push this baffle down. It was firm. I put a piece of wood on it and gave it a quick bang and it went down flush!!! I powered it up and it now produces scalding water. Hot setting is plenty. You do not need VERY HOT. You will get burned. To summarize, I wanted to counter all the bad reviews about Rheem water heaters and let others know they WILL help you and send a part/technician right away if necessary. Working perfectly now.

What a horrible company. Will never buy another Rheem water heater again. Our heater control valve went out on our water heater on Thanksgiving day. Eight days later I still have not received the part. I have now been up without hot water since Thanksgiving night. The honorable thing to do would have been to send the part via FedEx overnight instead they sent it FedEx ground and it will not arrive until Monday if at all! Sad! I have had a hot water heater from Rheem for under 2 years now and first my pilot light and igniter went out. I thought nothing of it. I continued to relight the pilot light and it worked. After about a 2 weeks or so I was down in my basement and smelt gas. I was alarmed I called Elizabeth Town Gas, and they told me to evacuate my house. I did. With that being said I found out that the tubing coupling was sliced. I called Rheem for replacement parts. First they sent out the pilot light igniter. Now that we know that the coupling is sliced we called Rheem and it has been a week for them to ship out this part. I live on the East Coast, where Rheem is located, there has been no tracking number. The replacement part is in stock, says one of the assistants from the call center. But still no replacement part. With two kids and one parent this is tough on me. Working multiple jobs and coming home to no hot water to bathe and any household chores. This has been a struggle.

This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing
This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing Company regarding a claim I made for a leaking hot water tank that has a 12 year warranty with full coverage (parts and labor) for the first three years. From the day I reported a problem with this Rheem 12 year Gas Hot Water Heater I was treated disrespectfully and it was abundantly clear from the beginning that it was going to be difficult to get this company to back the 12 year warranty on this hot water heater. When I reported the problem I was having with this water heater it was only one and a half years old and still eligible for full no cost labor and parts coverage for the first three years as stated in the warranty verbiage. Rheem customer claim reps gave me a hard time about sending a plumber out to look at the tank and repair it. After asking to speak to a supervisor I was finally told she would send out a plumber and I would be notified by someone who would set up an appointment. I then get a call and was told they cant find any authorized Rheem plumbers in my area and asked if I would contact a plumber on my own and have the plumber fix the leaking tank if possible and send their bill to Rheem for reimbursement. I tried to find a plumber but none would come when I told them they had to submit their bill to Rheem for payment. I ended up fixing the tank myself with some help from a friend who is a plumber apprentice.I turned in a claim for $18.06 and this chincy company denied payment, unbelievable!!!! Imagine what the claim would have been if a plumber would have fixed the tank and for sure I would have been stuck with that bill!!! I notified Home Depot (where I purchased the water heater} Customer Service and they were appalled when I told them this story. I only notified them because I wanted Rheem to be reported for their extremely poor customer service and not fulfilling their warranty agreements. Home Depot is one of Rheems largest dealers of their products and did not agree with Rheems denial of this claim. They told me they were going to file a grievance against Rheem for the way this claim was handled and to show their appreciation of my loyal patronage sent me a $25 Gift Card. I will never buy a Rheem product again and will tell all every chance I get of this horrible experience. If you need a new hot water heater be very leery about buying a Rheem.Rick **

I bought a Rheem water heater in June. Well 5 months later, it started showing errors on the gas control. Also I would sometimes have hot water and other times I would not. Had their service techs come and try and fix. Called Rheem Numerous times and they said it was the gas control and sent me a new one. The tech comes over and installs the new gas control and guess what still doesnt work and I have no hot water. I call Rheem and they say we will send you another gas control. I say you just sent me a brand new one. He says Yes I know. I say I have a family with no hot water for two weeks now and I want you to get me a new water heater under the warranty as its only 5 months old. Rheem says no we wont do that. So I had to buy another water heater and not Rheem of course because I had no hot water heater that would work and all three techs said they couldnt fix it and Rheem wouldnt replace it. Rheem doesnt stand by their warranty. I called Rheem again and told them Im going to have to take them to small claims court and they said ok, good luck to you. Hi there, I am a home builder by the name of Ivaan Interiors in Winnipeg, Canada and I bought a 60-gallon HWT from Home Depot last month Dec 2021 for my new house to sell. The hot water tank was installed on-site by a licensed plumber and electrician. The electrician found that its not heating and consuming double Amperes as compared to it and tripping the circuit breaker. The electrician double-checked all the wiring but it didnt work and mentioned that there is some problem inside. We called customer service and they said, We can send parts, and we have to get it repaired at our end. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can we repair and why should we spend another hundred bucks to get it repaired. We didnt buy this brand new product to take the pain to repair. The buyer is taking possession next month. I want it to be repaired or replaced asap. I would appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and solved immediately. Manish

Hands down the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they cant even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didnt receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak Im literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.

I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem Performance Hot water heater from Home Depot a few years ago. Right before Christmas the digital control panel went out. I searched the internet and found out there is a recall on them. I called Rheem customer service and had to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to talk to a representative. The representative was helpful and sent me the necessary paperwork to fill out. They authorized the repair to be up to $250.00. I had to call Mac Plumbing and the part was delivered and installed on Christmas Eve. So appreciative to get hot water back.I sent all necessary papers to Rheem for the reimbursement right away along with the proof of payment. Rheem never confirmed they received the necessary information. I called Rheem customer service to verify they received the necessary paperwork to process the form. I spent at least 45 minutes on hold. I talk to the representative and he verified they have the necessary paperwork. Then I got disconnected. It is Feb 18th and I have not received the reimbursement of $249.00 they authorized to get the recall repairs complete. I am totally disappointed with Rheems customer service. It is unsatisfactory!

I purchased a 40 gallon Rheem water heater in August, 2016. This past Tuesday, no hot water. Plumber came and replaced the bad Thermo coupler. Tonight came home to no hot water. Plumber came, said it is a faulty gas valve. He gave me a choice-back-order a replacement part for $300.00 and wait days to get it and add in labor or it would be cheaper to replace the water heater. That is what I opted for. I am wildly disappointed in that Rheem unit. It was nothing but trouble from day one!

My Rheem 50 gallon water heater started leaking after 4 years and was replaced. Rheem refused to honor the their warranty, mind you the heater broke after 4 years! We also have a water softener to mitigate leak issues. Left on hold multiple times for long periods. Obviously symptomatic of the many issues with their cheaply made products. Would never buy from this company again and recommend avoiding at all costs. Their reps are not courteous and don’t give a crap. Rheem wanted me to bring back the broken water heater to the place of purchase. Of course the previous plumber who installed it bought it so no clue where they purchased. Why would I need to return a broken water heater??? Answer, to make it difficult for customers to get compensated. The warranty is terrible and not worth the paper its printed on but more importantly, the water heater broke after only 4 years. Terrible product, customer service and terrible company.

The Rheem water heater I bought went out months before the warranty ran out. Rheem sent me the part and I had Southern Calif. Gas Co. install it and they charged 43.00 to install it but not Rheem for some reason will not reimburse me for the 43.00. I sent everything they asked me for - model no. and all that stuff. Even sent the bill from Gas Co. and my check no. that paid it. I am so disgusted with Rheem. I guess my next move will be to go to Better Business Bureau and tell them my story. Please tell me why do some companies say they have and even give warranties on paper and then you have to fight with them to get your money back... I think this is fraud on a big scale. Also I got on the computer and could not believe all the complaints Rheem has against them.

Purchased a new Furnace and Air Conditioner in 2013 and have had nothing but problems. In 2017 the air conditioner was leaking gas and needed a new evaporation coil. At first we were told that the coil was not covered under warranty but after some investigation on our part we figured out that it was indeed covered, however we had labour cost of over one thousand dollars. This year during a bad cold snap the furnace broke down and needed a new blower. The blower had to be ordered from the States which took 2 weeks to arrive. The blower is not covered by warranty so we were on the hook for the labour as well which was again well over one thousand dollars. Now 2 months later the furnace has stopped working once again and it appears to be the same issue so it’s a cold waiting game until after the weekend to find out what’s wrong this time. Honestly unless you have an unlimited budget for repairs I would stay well away from this product!

We replace a water heater April 2015 with a Rheem electric tank in our vacation rental. Sept 2016 our tenant called us to say there was no hot water. Couldnt believe it. We had a plumber attend the condo to find out that the wires on top of the water heater were fried. We needed a new hot water heater of course. This happened on a Saturday and Rheems office was closed.I called Rheem on Monday for them to tell me I had to go through who I purchased the hot water tank through which was Home Depot. A representative at Rheem told me they would reimburse the labour to install the new tank. Im still waiting as of today being February 13, 2017. Rheem has the worst customer service I have ever had. They tell me someone will call me back in a day or so. They tell me it takes 6 to 8 weeks for an answer. Wow its now been 6 months and still no answer. I am so done with them. NEVER PURCHASE A RHEEM PRODUCT!!!

Our experience is exactly the same. So what can we all do. We are about to replace the coil (aluminum versus copper, our HVAC serviceman says will make the difference). He is not 100% sure the problem is there since the leak is very small. To really check will cost about 600 for a nitrogen test. So at this point we are down $300 for visit and freon replacement and potentially down another $600 to replace the second coil. Our unit like the rest is 2012 with problems in 2014 and now.

Had this furnace 5.5 years. (RGPE07EAMKR 2 stage). Worked OK the first 5 years. At year 3 years, had to replace Pressure Switch Assembly. Even though under warranty, it still cost me $300. Just after the 5 year warranty expired, the furnace acted up and was not heating properly. Does not to Stage 2 level. And struggles to get above 70-71. After spending $700!! And had 2 techs spend a total of 6 hours on it - IT IS STILL NOT HEATING PROPERLY!!! And it is now recommended I spend another $200-$300 to TRY to get it working properly. (There is no guarantee this advice will solve the problem). I might as well throw it out and start over! I would NEVER BUY RHEEM AGAIN. :-(

The Rheem 40 gallon gas water heater never worked properly, temperature could not be adjusted and stayed at 120 degrees, even in low or vacation mode. Customer service had 45 hold time, but finally sent out a local plumber, who believed it was a faulty temperature controller. I again had difficulty getting to Rheem customer service, but they ordered a new temperature controller which was installed by a local plumber. After running hot water for a considerable time with controller in vacation mode the temperature dropped but stayed above the 91 degree stated in owners manual. The next morning I ran hot water on a home thermometer and the temperature shot up to 120 degree, the maximum the thermometer could read. Now I must call to get a third plumber out to correct situation. The owner manual does not say it is a Rheem water heater and it appear to be the same water heater at Home Depot and Lowes. Also the owner manual shows the temperature controller to be a brand name Honeywell but the controller provided appears to be the same, only the Honeywell name is missing. Bottom line; I will not buy another Rheem water heater.

Purchased a 50 gallon Rheem electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Had a master plumber install the water heater. He thought all was working well. Never got any hot water. Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater. My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

I purchased a 50 gal Rheem water heater XG50T12DU36U0 from Home Depot, I installed and it would not light up unless I would close and reopen the gas line manually. I called Rheem, troubleshooted the water heater with them over the phone and they decided it was the gas valve. I replaced it for them and the problem continued. I called them again, troubleshooted the heater again and they said it was the ignitor and asked me to replace it. I refused to replaced because I did not want to damage the heater and invalidate the warranty. Their repair company replaced the ignitor, the unit started after many sparks and then would not work again. I called Rheem again, troubleshooted again the flammable gas sensor, reset the gas valve without fixing the problem. They said it was the thermal protection device and asked me to open and remove the burner which I refused to do. I got tired of this and asked to return the unit. Rheem says they do not recommend that because they want to keep troubleshooting the unit (while I take cold showers...) and do not issue a Return Authorization number. Home Depot manager says I need to contact Rheem, get a return authorization number and they do not honor the 90 day return policy nor provide me a copy of it (they said I can take a picture of the policy on the counter). The policy does not mention water heater as non returnable items but still the manager does not accept me to return the heater. The manager said also that since the water heater was installed I cannot return it. Home Depot 1-800 customer service says I can return the unit (with receipt, serial number on heater and undamaged) but they cannot override the store manager. Then I get the FedEx notification and it is a week till the estimated delivery date. What happen to 2-3 days? I called the help number and come to find out that I could have overnight the stupid part for a small fee and had hot water in a couple of days instead of over a week, but the guy processing the order the first time failed to mention that option to me. Needless to say the part is now overnight but since it was a Friday afternoon it wont go out till Monday so when the thing finally comes in and can be installed it will be 5 days since the service tech got out there to begin with to get the hot water heater running. Seriously what are these people thinking, you as a homeowner dont want hot water in winter for more than a week.

Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. Rheem water heaters are very poor quality and you will end up with failures way the life of the heater. It is made in Mexico and the parts break continually. I bought my gas water heater 12-30-2011 and in May of 2014 it failed. They recommended a repairman and he charged more than a new heater to fix it. The parts broke again a month later, same repairman came and changed multiple parts again (lucky no charge this time). Less than a month later, the parts failed again. Repairman came out and refused to replace the parts, said it wasnt up to code and theyd fail again. Wanted $2300 to put in a new one, yea right. Contacted GE whose label and they air freighted in new parts. Got a new plumber GE recommended and the guy put them in and couldnt get it to work, put in another one on the spot and still couldnt get it to work. Contacted them and got nowhere. I installed a Rheem 40 gal gas hot water heater on Monday June 7. It would not stay lit. I had the local gas company come out and check the output of the gas meter on the house and then at the heater itself. Everything checked out ok so on Friday, June 11, only 4 days after buying the unit, I called the technical helpline at Rheem. Caitlyn diagnosed the problem as probably being either the thermal coupler or the gas valve and that Rheem would send out the parts. The problem was it would be 4 to 5 business days. Thats now an additional week without hot water on a tank which has been installed for less than a week. Expediting the order will cost me for the additional shipping expenses. Please DISREGARD the bad review. It was not a Rheem issue. My mistake. Explanation (maybe others can learn from my mistake): The catch pan at the bottom of the water heater filled with water up to the overflow pipe that goes to the drain. I vacuumed the water out and made sure no water could enter from the drain pipe. (The drain pipe is also used by the furnace and air-conditioner.) After a few hours there was more water in the catch pan. I assumed this was confirmation that it came from a leak in the water heater. I was wrong!I vacuumed out the water again, called the service number and wrote the bad review. After several hours I notice the catch pan was still dry. After a full day it was still dry???. I then realized the water I thought was coming from a leak in the water heater must have come from water that collected in the water heaters insulation which gradually dripped out. So the real source of the water in the catch pan was water that back-flowed from my furnace/air-conditioner. As for Rheems support, I called the service number. They listen to my story and scheduled a service visit for the next workday. I received a call from the service provider (Sals) a few hours later. They were very pleasant and told me they would call a 1/2 hour before arrival. Fortunately, I was able to cancel the appointment. Again, Sals was very gracious and glad all was working ok.

“I am posting the following experience as an example of how companies should treat clients/customers regardless of stated warranties, policies and procedures. A number of years ago, I purchased an above-ground salt-water pool with a Raypak pool heater. It was a good heater, but two years ago reached the end of its life and had to be replaced. I decided to purchase another upgraded Raypak heater (larger and with digital readout). Unfortunately, for some reason, the heater only lasted two seasons before needing to be replaced. While I was initially upset at this prospect, all companies can occasionally have a product that ends up being “a lemon” despite regularly producing high quality products.I have often said that a person or a company should be judged, not on mistakes made or an occasional poor product, but how they respond to fixing the situation. In this case, Raypak, sold in Canada by Rheem Canada, came through with flying colours. Technically, my Raypak heater was out of warranty, but Rheem understood the situation and recognized that their products usually perform much better than was the case with this particular heater. The company, with a special shoutout to the Director of Sales in Canada, Dave **, was very understanding and helpful in this situation by replacing my heater. Rheem/Raypak has just ensured a lifelong customer and one who will spread the word. Raypak/Rheem is number 1 in my books!”

Had a plumber install a Rheem 40 gallon propane water heater installed in December 2018. In September 2019 the unit quit working. After several hours on hold and some troubleshooting identified that the internal combustion shut off device had failed. Had a plumber out who confirmed issue and was perplexed with an unusually high amount of soot in the water heater. I explained there was a fire below the burner, which seemed very odd. Once the new part came in we replaced it and it lasted for less than 15 minutes. I then had a second plumber out who checked gas pressure, venting and that everything was installed according to code. We discussed the issue and that Rheem no longer makes good products. We both contact Rheem and explained all the trouble shooting we had done. After an hour on the phone with multiple contacts they finally agreed to send a new burner and internal combustion shut off device. After more than a week of cold showers for this family of six we finally got the parts. New parts were installed and it seemed to work great until today December 1 2019 when the internal combustion shut off device failed again. Been on hold for 45 minutes waiting for customer service. We had our Rheem water heater installed less than a month ago and we recently noticed an awful smell in our hot water. We are on a well and do not chlorinate our water. We do have an iron reduction filter and water softener and have never experienced a bad odor to our hot water. We had to call the plumber out to look at the water heater because of the odor being so bad and were told that we needed to replace the anode rod to eliminate the smell. The anode rod that came in the water heater was not intended for well water. We tried contacting Rheem to see if this could be processed through our warranty and we were told it was not a defect in the product. It may not be a defect, but this product was not advertised correctly. Nowhere does this product say For Chlorinated Water. I am very disappointed in this product and this manufacturer for not advertising their product in a way that allows a consumer on a well to make the best decision for their home. We had our previous water heater for over 15 years with no odor in our water. Customer Service told us we can replace the anode rod and will probably have to do it quite often, or we can completely remove it and the water heater will not last as long. He also said we could add a chlorination system to our water, but all the options he listed are at our cost. I will never purchase a Rheem water heater or any other product with their name on it ever again.

They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. What a joke.

We wanted to return this piece of junk for a replacement better yet a full refund. $400.00 basically down the drain. Literally. Horrible product, horrible service.

Rheem 80,000 BTU heat pump - I purchased a complete HVAC package two years ago through an installer in my area (Loveland, Ohio). The product is a high efficiency Rheem. Almost immediately and continuing today, the heat pump shuts down because of condensation working its way into a vacuum line that monitors the gas valve. I have been told that this problem is particular to Rheem (and they are aware), but have not corrected the problem. I tried submitting my problem and complaint to Rheem on their website but when I press the submit button, nothing. The comments go nowhere. I have turned the gas valve a 180 degrees on its bracket so the tube has a slight back flow. Im hoping this helps eliminate the problem. I will never purchase another Rheem product again.

I am a maintenance technician at a town home complex that had 30 Rheem power vent water heaters installed in them 4 years ago. Of the thirty heaters I have had to replace, 21 gas control valves, I have to call because they are under warranty yet. But our tenants have had to wait 7 days for the part to show up to fix the problem. Rheem knows they have a problem because after giving them the model and serial numbers from the I.D. plate, they send out a new valve. My issues are angry tenants because they have no hot water and I have received repair calls every day of the week, weekends and late in the evenings or very early in the mornings. I even had a replacement gas valve go bad so they have not fixed the problem from what I can see. The operator at the service center told me that I had already replaced a valve on a unit after he checked the serial number, and I told him he was right it was. Now we just built another 24 unit complex here and after begging the owners to not put these in they still put the exact units in here. All I can say is Rheem must give a big push to contractors to keep moving this brand.

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didnt like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund. In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? This is an honest recount of my past weekend. M. ** (Norristown, Pa). I would not recommend this product.

Rheem support said they would send a plumber, who did call nor show up. I called Rheem again and said I was not happy and I might return it to store. The Rheem rep said they would not authorize the return. That sounded fishy, since the stores policy doesnt require Rheems authorization. Rheem renewed their water heater since my purchase and new unit had to be installed. Even though it was under warranty I was charged $100 extra to get the new unit. Their warranty is not really good if they charge you for the new unit especially when there is an issue with their own equipment. On top of that I had to pay labor again which was not covered under the warranty and I understood. I contacted Rheem directly, however, they pointed me to their distributors and it is not up to Rheem while the distributor clearly pointed to Rheem.

I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.

Tankless water heater model # RMTG-74 PVN-2 - For the past several months we have been having issues with our Richmond tankless water heater. Our hot water is intermittent. It will start to work then shut off and produce only cold water. We have done all the preventive maintenance required, replaced a gas line, and had a plumber clean the burner unit. The water heater worked for about a month after she cleaned the burner, then the same problem occurred again, always a c2-11 error. Tech support sent us a new burner unit, which we had installed only to have the problem continue. I just got off the phone with tech support again and went through the diagnostic procedure again. I couldnt get the problem to replicate and tech support told me that I didnt have a problem because it is working and if the problem happens again I should call them when it happens wtf!!!! While talking to tech support the hot water quit finally and she told me that it was my problem because they sent me a new burner unit and that should have fixed the problem or it was the gas companys fault. This water heater worked perfectly for four years and worked fine for a month after the burners were cleaned, but now its a gas problem. We have other gas appliances and all are working fine. I didnt do a lot of research before we went with a tankless water heater and that is my fault, but hopefully someone is reading this now and will avoid Rheem/Richmond. Dont buy one of these or any of their products for that matter.

They sent me an e-mail that I was able to pay up to $450 for product and installation. Needless to say, the contractors that I spoke to, laughed at that amount. Plus, I could not get any of their contractors out for at least another 2-5 days. I called back and spoke with a supervisor who said I could take it back to store and get replacement. I told her I did not have receipt but I did purchase date and product registration. She said that would not be a problem because they have the ability to look that up in their system. The store only prorated the product. I called again and spoke to another supervisor, Mike #**. I told him that the price difference it ended up costing me was $65.42. He said they would not be able to reimburse me because I didnt have original receipt. I told him that the supervisor I talked to previously said it would not cost me anything. Well now its five years later and the replacement had water coming from the top of the water heater, another defective heater, my garage flooded again, personal items ruined again!! I call claims dept and they tell me theres nothing they can do because my warranty was only good for the life of the first water heater? What? You have defective products that ruin my garage twice and cost me all kinds of money and theres nothing they can do? How about you make a better product!! I had my water pressure checked and it was fine so thats not the issue, the issue is that these water heaters are junk and Do Not Buy!! They are horrible water heaters, made by a company that doesnt stand behind their products, and insert language in their warranties that screw the consumer in the end. I will be looking for other consumers like me that bought these defective products and hopefully get some type of class action lawsuit going cause I know theres a lot more people that feel the same way I do. Rheem Marathon water heaters come with a lifetime warranty. A licensed plumber installed this water heater just under a year ago. The heater began making loud noises, like a metal object was hitting another piece of metal. I called the same plumber back to check on the noise. He examined the heater thoroughly and found nothing that would have caused this problem to arise. He asked me to call Rheem Customer Service to see if they could explain and offer a solution to the noise. (The noise has no relation to water use, time of day, or any other variable I could think of). My first call was answered by Lori, who asked for my serial number, then told me to adjust the flue baffle and that would eliminate the noise. She was in a hurry to get off the call. The electric Marathon has no baffle. My second call was answered by Valerie, who also took my serial number. I specifically told her the heater was electric. She then told me to take off the two covers on the front, determine which light was on when the noise occurred, then call her back with the information. I took off the covers to find that there are no lights. She was also interested in ending the call. My third call was answered by Nick, who apologized for the other two agents of Rheem, which he could see from the record of calls I had made previously. He suggested draining the tank to see if that would eliminate the noise. I asked the plumber about this and he stated that there would be no need to drain the tank given its age. So I am left with either calling Rheem yet again for what appears to be sketchy advise or learning to live with the noise.Rheems Customer Service seems to be time on the phone driven: when you get a trouble call, give some kind of answer and get off the phone as soon as possible. Not a good system to encourage customers to buy any Rheem product in the future. Their responses to my problem seem to treat the Lifetime Warranty as a mere piece of paper used as a sales aid only. Beware of Rheem products!

DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) 50 gallon water heater less than a year old and everything started to break down. Warranty doesnt pay for anything unless their own plumber does the job (Noahs Plumbing in San Jose, CA). Their plumber is very hard to book and we have been without water for over 3 weeks. Warranty department is extremely rude and will give you the runaround saying they only work with their own plumbers and everything takes 2 days for them to do anything. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BRAND. I GIVE THEM 0 STARS

Catastrophic failure of the reversing valve in 2 years old Rheem heat pump
Catastrophic failure of the reversing valve in 2 years old Rheem heat pump vented all refrigerant. $253.00 Cost to find failure. $600.00 Cost of labor to replacing their failed reversing valve. $450.00 Cost to replace refrigerant caused by failure of their reversing valve. $0.00 Cost of parts. $0.00 (Only thing covered under 10 years’ warranty). Costs covered by the famous Rheem 10 years’ warranty $0.00. Likelihood that Rheem/Ruud will ever see my business or anyone I know again 0%. This short-sighted strategy creates an incentive to produce subpar products. I highly recommend looking at another heating and air supplier and pay close attention to what they cover in their warranty.

We installed a Rheem tankless water heater system in February 2017 and star
We installed a Rheem tankless water heater system in February 2017 and starting about a year ago, it has consistently failed to produce hot water. It appears to be a computer/software problem, as our plumber is able to reboot it, but we have not been able to do so following the manual. The reboot may last a few weeks, or 24 hours, and there seems to be no discernible trigger. Our next step will be to remove the system and replace it with traditional water heaters.

I purchased a new 12-year water heater in December 2009 from Home Depot. Less than two years later (21 Aug 11), the water heater broke down, the pilot light failed to light and there was no hot water. I called GE/Rheem service line and instructions were given to re-light the pilot. I got it going for only five minutes before shutting off again. Then, I called Pacific Gas and Electric Company on the next day, 22 Aug 11, for unbiased diagnostic check. PG&E came on 23 Aug 11 and determined that the water heater was properly installed, the air vents were clear and no obstructions but, again, the pilot light failed to sustain or remain lit for more than six minutes. I called GE/Rheem service line and described the sequence of events. The phone technician quickly stated that she would send a gas valve control which would take care of the problem. I asked if there were problems with these heaters but I did not get a clear answer. She stated that she would send out the part via FedEx to arrive the next day between 10-12 noon. Its already 5:00 p.m. but there is still no part and it is too late now to find a plumber to come install. Meanwhile, it has been four days without hot water. I checked the Internet and found an incredible amount of complaints regarding the specific product of GE water heaters and many of them were purchased from Home Depot.
