Rheem Heat Pump Model RP16AZ
I replaced a 10-year-old Maytag hot water heater with a Richmond branded tankless hot water heater in 2012. It started to leak after just 7 months and Rheem would not honor my warranty so I had to go through the retailer. After 2.5 years Ive gone through five tankless hot water heaters because the heat exchanger keep leaking after just 7 to 8 months of use at the most. Rheem continually reams me and refuses to pay any warranty claim. Do not trust any warranty that Rheem advertises.
We have a Rheem air conditioner that was installed March 2017. Since then it’s broken twice. The first time it was a simple fix as the defroster board needed to be fixed. Not a big issue as the repair company could do it quickly and only cost $250. It breaks again 7 months later in the middle of August in Florida. The condenser coil has a leak which caused all the Freon to leak out and burn out the compressor. None of that is an easy fix and will end up costing us $1900 for a unit that’s less than 3 years old. Called and talked to Rheem and they are unwilling to help. All they’ll tell you is the parts are under warranty and there’s nothing else they can do and will hang up on you. So unless you want to be spending thousands of dollars in labor every year to get it fixed and deal with the worst customer service I would stay far far away.
I purchased a 50 gallon Rheem Performance Hot water heater from Home Depot a few years ago. Right before Christmas the digital control panel went out. I searched the internet and found out there is a recall on them. I called Rheem customer service and had to wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to talk to a representative. The representative was helpful and sent me the necessary paperwork to fill out. They authorized the repair to be up to $250.00. I had to call Mac Plumbing and the part was delivered and installed on Christmas Eve. So appreciative to get hot water back.I sent all necessary papers to Rheem for the reimbursement right away along with the proof of payment. Rheem never confirmed they received the necessary information. I called Rheem customer service to verify they received the necessary paperwork to process the form. I spent at least 45 minutes on hold. I talk to the representative and he verified they have the necessary paperwork. Then I got disconnected. It is Feb 18th and I have not received the reimbursement of $249.00 they authorized to get the recall repairs complete. I am totally disappointed with Rheems customer service. It is unsatisfactory!
I bought a gas water heater at Home Depot by Rheem about 1 1/2 year ago. It failed, Rheem labels the water heater not to take the water heater back to Home Depot but, to troubleshoot the problem thru the phone with them, after they “think” they know what the problem is, they mail you parts for you as a customer, replace them (like the customer is a plumber or a technician). It didnt work the first time, troubleshooting thru the phone again, now they thought they knew what the problem is, send another part, replace it. It worked for 2 month, and failed again. Call a third time, troubleshoot, then they authorized to take the water heater back to Home Depot for a partial credit... after everything you have to go thru, not having hot water for 2 weeks, paying a plumber for all the labor, taking the water heater back to Home Depot. It’s a very disappointing way of dealing with this kind of help from this company.
I hired a licensed contractor to install a new Rheem water heater. After 6 months the new water heater leaked, it had a crack in the tank. The contractor replaced the water heater under warranty. A Couple months later the water heater failed. I contacted Rheem and they sent parts to my house and contacted their approved/authorized contractor to replace the parts. When the repair was made, their contractor dented in the side of the tank. When I contacted Rheem they told me it is not their problem and that I need to take it up with their contractor and that I would never be able to prove it. Their contractor does not respond to any forms of communication. The Rheem representative were very rude and unprofessional. So I paid ~$2,000 for a damaged, unsightly water heater. Plus, is it safe? Will the damage cause the tank to rupture or leak hot water?
I purchased a water heater by Rheem less than 6 months ago. The gas valve went out on a Thursday. Rheem sent out a technician on Monday late evening. They wouldn’t overnight my part. I was told 1-2 days for the part to arrive. My part should have been overnighted seeing how it’s only been
I had a water heater installed in January 2021. June 2021, water heater inoperable. I had the gas valve replaced and polit assembly replaced. I had a Rheem representatives on the phone with technician who installed the tank and they got into a shouting matchen until technician hung up phone. Rheem was confident the thermal release device activated and told me that if the device was no activated, they would replace tank, at their expense, without question. I confirmed that the TRD was still in good condition and was told that they would have one of their approved technician exchange the tank. The next day, they told me that I would have to secure my own technician and that they would reimburse me up to $450 to have a technician come disable tank, go to Home Depot to exchange it and reinstall new tank for up to $450. What plumber do you know will do all that for $450?? I got back on for phone with them and after waiting on the phone for more than 1.5 hours, they secured a plumber to come do the exchange. This was after they told me they did not have a plumber to do the job. Each time I called, I was on the holding on the phone for more than an hour. I have been without hot water for about a month.
I moved into a brand new home in April 2016. I started having issues with my Rheem tankless water heater approximately 5 months after move in. It kept displaying a error code 12. The builder immediately had his plumber come out. We also included the gas provider in attempting to solve the mystery. After very extensive inspection, it was determined there were no issues at all with plumbing of the gas. Rheem sent another plumber out to change the fire rods. That seem to fix the issue. But, the error code returned approximately 2 months later. At that time, they sent another plumber out to do the same thing. Well, here it goes again... The same error code is back. Rheem has been very unresponsive to my requests. My family and I have had to endure this nightmare for a year and a half. Supposedly, we purchased the “top of the line” unit from Rheem. However, the service I’ve received so far doesn’t reflect that at all. Rheem needs to do the right thing, and replace the unit.
Bought this from Home Depot just less than a year ago. Gas valve went out last Wednesday. Big sticker on front of water heater says not to return to Home Depot but to call their 800 number. Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you. Your email with the tracking number mustve gone into your spam folder. Among please hold like 20 times. Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely wont set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesnt sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.
I have been used for 11 yrs, no problem at all. I don’t know how long my previous owner has used. In 2015 I contacted the manufacturer by email, they are nice and respond quickly. I just want to be fair to tell my true experience.
We bought an Rheem 5.0 Ton air conditioner unit just 13 months ago. The compressor stopped working and even though the parts are covered we had to pay $600 for the labor. We are still paying for this unit and it only lasted a little over a year. The unit we had before (a different brand) lasted over 10 years before it gave us any problems. It doesnt seem fair that we had to pay that much money for labor when it is obviously a faulty unit. We live in Florida and its the middle of summer, we cant live without AC so we just had to pay it. I will not recommend this Rheem brand to anybody.
I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (Im a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a normal operational issue. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. Im pretty shocked - Ive never seen this ever before! EVER. And Im 54... I replaced the parts and figured that Id be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didnt pop the breaker either. Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats.At this time Im real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. Im a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... Im thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, its time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and dont want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.
We purchased a water heater in 2015 from Rheem. The gas valve went out in 2020. While the part was still under warranty, the labor was not and the labor to install one of these units varied from $200 to $600. Our previous water heater lasted for 25 years as did all of our neighbors. This was clearly a faulty part and when I called Rheem to work out some sort of compensation I was denied, treated rudely, and put on hold for over an hour and a half. Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of this company!
Updated on 06/10/2020: Update. I continue to have issues with the 2017 Rheem air conditioner installed at my house. Rheem never followed up on my calls. I had a twenty year old Carrier that worked better and gave less problems at 20yrs. Don’t let anyone convince you to install a Rheem. It is loud, the motor failed once In 2019 and is failing again in 2020. Capacitor failed in 2019. It does not cool well and is more expensive pushing up my electricity bill. How my twenty year unit was cheaper to run is beyond me but Rheem managed to manufacture something less efficient than a unit twenty years old. If you want to quit your job and dedicate your life to dealing with AC problems, this is the unit for you.Original review: Royal Air and Heating in Dallas installed a Rheem unit at my house. The unit is extremely loud and it is like living next to a ship’s engine room. Even the Addison inspector who came out on the permit said the unit sounds like a 40 year old unit. The Rheem unit replaced a 20 yr old unit and the new Rheem unit is much louder than the old unit. It is also next to the master bedroom, so you cannot sleep in that room. In June 2017, when the unit was installed, Royal Air and Heating said a Rheem rep will have to come out and check it. It is now the end of September 2017 and still no Rheem rep has come to check the unit.I also contacted Rheem. They called me back and said they will follow up. They never did. Dont allow anyone to install one of these units at your house. It is a headache and you will not get any customer service. And, you will be waiting forever for a Rheem rep to come out. Surprised this awful company is still in business. Royal Air decided to install Rheem though I raised issues based on the reviews I saw. However, I had no choice since through home warranty. I also had to pay approximately $1,300 for upgrades, etc. And, this is what I am left with, an obnoxiously loud unit that infringes on my quality of life because I can no longer sleep in the master room. It is so loud.
Cant I get no stars? My water heater broke (leaking) after 5.8 years. It is still under Rheem warranty, so I called Rheem and they said I had to take the water heater back to where it was purchased to get credit or a replacement. I cant remember where it was purchase and I cannot even lift the water heater. My plumber is not willing to take the heater to where it was purchased without charging me the time which is substantial. So Rheem wont honor the warranty unless I bring the whole water heater, this makes no sense. In essence they are saying if I cant carry the water heater into the place it was purchased I can get reimbursed. What is that but a sham! I will never purchase a Rheem product again!
We purchased our first Rheem water heater on 11/21/2018. We have had nothing but problems ever since. From tools being taken from our home, to now the third water heater going bad plus on top of that being told that it would be two weeks till someone would be here to replace it! I have stage 4 Cancer that has spread to my bones making it long and difficult to get a shower among other things, can’t/ shouldn’t be without hot water!
I had 2 Rheem HVAC units oGas/AC) installed in my home in May 2014. One unit is for upstairs, the other for downstairs. In October 2018, the downstairs unit would not cool properly, low on freon, technician added freon and a sealant to hopefully seal the leak in the A coil. Then May 2019 the upstairs unit A coil had to be replaced. Now today June 24, 2019, the downstairs unit A coil has to be replaced (guess the sealant did not work). By the way, according to the technician who installed the unit and did the repairs, in the upstairs unit stated that the warranty did not cover or expired?? Do money out of my pocket for PART & labor.Now today the downstairs unit needs A coil replaced. I contacted the technician today and gave him a rundown on the dates, charges, and work done over the last (barely) 5 years since the install of these units and asked if these units didnt have at least a 5 year warranty? Note.... The company that installed the units amis the same one that services them. Researching in the internet, it appears that many units are warrantied for at least 5 years, some 10, 12 years or more. So, in my opinion, go purchase another brand of HVAC.... Stay away from Rheem. Check the warranty and get it in writing before you decide to have it installed.
Bought a new Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater and was installed in new home in August 2015. Worked for three months, then had issues with NO hot water. Getting error code. Contacted company and after several attempts and disconnects finally got someone. Was told that the venting was improper and to contact plumber to have them look at it and then send the bill for reimbursement. We did as we were told, changed venting per their specifications and still does not work correctly. Plumbing company contacted Rheem and they sent new blower assembly. This was replaced and did NOT fix the problem. Again contacted Rheem spent over 2 hours trying to get someone. Finally got someone in another department who transferred to supervisor.They have supposedly contacted Menards to reimburse us for the bad water heater, but now are refusing to reimburse us for the bill that was incurred by having a plumber come out. They are stating we did not provide the correct documentation showing a defect. Bill was sent that we received from plumbing company stating their fees.We cannot understand why no one is looking into this company regarding all these issues that this company is having with their bad product and NOT honoring their warranty. This company is causing frustrations on customers that should not be happening and not honoring anything in their warranty booklet. Nor are the phone numbers that they are listing on this warranty numbers that consumers are able to get through. When talking to the supervisor I brought this issue up and even asked him if he has ever tried calling the number listed. He said frankly no. I asked him to please do this as well as forward this on to individuals that are higher up so that they are aware of this issue. I would seriously hope that this company look into their issues with their products and take note of what consumers are dealing with.
We installed in January 2010 an RGRM 95% efficiency brand new furnace with an authorized contractor from Rheem. In September of 2010, we had to call the dealer to help turn the furnace on. We are once again unable to get the furnace to turn on this October. The Rheem technician is asking us to call the dealer back in and pay for labor. This is a brand new furnace, why should we have to call the dealer in every September/October to help start this furnace? Obviously, we have a faulty unit that Rheem is refusing to help us with. An older 30-year-old furnace did not give us any problems. This is supposed to be a brand new furnace and Rheem is asking us to purchase an extended warranty
Hot water heater is gurgling and making thudding noises. Home Depot, Rheem and the General Contractor that Home Depot sent out to install not standing behind warranty. My Husband was on the phone for two hours today with all three companies. When hot water heater explodes because that’s what it sounds like it’s going to do - there are going to be some large lawsuits filed. Just sayin’. Thanks for the awesome customer service Rheem.
Purchased new Rheem water heater. Installed in new home 8/27/2020. Tested pressure relief valve as instructed in Use & Care Manual. Valve would not fully re-seat and leaked to ½ gallon in 24 hours. Tried valve several times to see if it would flush out any material that may prohibit it from closing properly, leak continued. Called Rheem Tech Support at 1-800-995-0982 on 8/23/21. Sat on hold for 27 minutes before being disconnected. Called a second time, on hold for 51 minutes before someone answered only to tell me I had wrong department and they could not help. Called Tech Support # again, on hold 37 minutes, asked for a supervisor. Was told that Parts Warranty only good for 1 year from manufacture date. I was given a part # and told I would need to purchase part for about $37. Told them I have documentation of when Water heater was installed and put into service, that doesn’t matter, parts only good for one year from manufacture. Started calls at 11:30 AM, ended 1:45 PM, over two hours. This water heater touts a 10 year Warranty, evidently need to get to fine print to learn that parts that will commonly fail are only given one year from date of manufacture. I am a builder and have had multiple Rental properties, this water heater was for my own home. This in my experience is the worst customer service/support ever, I will personally never purchase or install another Rheem product. Buyer beware, you are dealing with a bloated, self-important company if you deal with Rheem.
Purchased a Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot in April 2015. Gas Valve failed November 2016 and was replaced under warranty. Gas Valve failed again January 2019 -- Rheem sent a replacement, but I never installed it because the existing Gas Valve appeared to be OK after re-lighting pilot. In May 2019, no hot water... went into garage to investigate and found water around base of heater. Pulled off front cover and noted that bottom of insulation was saturated with water -- tank is leaking. Tank failed in 4 years! 9 year tank warranty. Called Rheem for return authorization and returned heater to Home Depot (got about 85% credit -- prorated). I was given store credit only, so I had to buy the same piece of crap Rheem water heater since thats all Home Depot sells. Well have to see how long this one lasts.
I had 3.5 ton Sure Comfort heat pump installed in May 2020, failed one month later. Repaired and then failed again the same week, a different part. Made it through the summer then the winter failures began. It is only January 2021 and I have had this worked on so many times. The screws won't hold the doors and covers on anymore. This is complete garbage. I have deep regrets buying a Rheem product. I will not buy any Rheem products because of the quality of this product.
My 50-gallon water heater leaked all over the lower floor of my home while under warranty. I spoke with Rheem and they told me because I replaced my heater with another brand heater, I violated their warranty. So if it were up to them, I would have called them instead of a plumber.
Purchased a water heater from Rheem and it stopped heating after 12 months and 1 week. Rheem said it is out of labor warranty and they will send me replacement parts which they did, but I had to spend additional $298 to have them replaced. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM RHEEM. Instead, spend a little bit more money on a better product from another manufacturer. Rheem also offers the same crappy products under Ruud, Richmond, Paloma, Solahart, Splendid, and GE.
Water heater (electric) dead after 4 years of use and flooded our garage. Rheem will not give any sort of credit or reimbursement for a new unit as they say it can only be returned to a plumbing supply store. They can not or will not deal with the public. No way to get a credit even with me willing to pay for a new one. Bad company, bad product. The Rheem AC in my office also went bad after 9 months, theyve garbage as well. Spend a few extra bucks for equipment that will last longer and a company that will stand behind their product.
I replaced my water heater with a 50 gallon propane unit after my previous water heater failed. I dont recall which brand was replaced but it had been trouble free for years before the bottom rusted out. The new unit started having hot water consistently issues and because the warranty department said they were out of stock on replacement control valves which troubleshooting identified as the problem. I was authorized to get a new replacement water heater from HomeDepot. Within a year, the water temperature stopped holding. Warranty sent a new control valve. This took care of the problem for several months until it repeated. This time they wanted me to contact a repair company to verify there were not external issues like low propane pressure, water supply issues, etc. All checked out and they sent me a new control valve. 7 months later, and the problem repeats! I called again, got transferred and put into a queue with a half hour delay and hung up in frustration. Ill call again when I have more time but I have lost all confidence in this brand. When I had asked a previous service support tech at Rheem about the issue, he said they were getting the parts out of Mexico and chuckled.
I purchased a Rheem Air Conditioner in 2010. I have replaced the compressor two times and now the coil has blow out. My air conditioning company came out Sunday and removed the cover and the whole inside was covered with oil. Its still under warranty, so they ordered a replacement coil on Monday and I received a call today that it is on back order from Rheem and they dont know when they will receive it. I called Rheem customer service and was told to call my service company and have them call a district supervisor. I live in Florida and it is getting a little cooler (80s during the day). Its still hot without an air conditioner. Ive been reading other reviews and it seems that Im not alone. THIS WILL BE MY LAST RHEEM PRODUCT.
Please before you buy a Rheem HVAC, research the quality of their coils. A year after purchasing a new system I have been experiencing dirty sock syndrome. It is a known issue with the coil and there is a known fix, the coils need to be dipped with in a bronzing solution or an epoxy. This prevents mold and bacteria buildup on the coils and then spewing the spores throughout your home. Rheem calls it an environmental issue and refuses to reimburse for the costs to have the problem remedied. After installation either a UV light or a Global Plasma System at my expense, my issue may be resolved, again Rheem refuses to reimburse my costs. I am also reading that their coils have a problem with corrosion and failure, once again a problem corrected by dipping to prevent the corrosion. Buyer beware, the limited warranty is just that, extremely limited, no labor to replace defective parts, no Freon replacement costs on defective equipment, no labor to correct their known issue with dirty sock syndrome. I guess they think these things just magically fix themselves. I bought my unit from an authorized Rheem dealer and was told these were some of the best units on the market.
On 8/2/2013 I purchased a 5 ton a/c system model# RPHLHM6024JC, serial # W201312660 from ARS. On 2/12/15, a leak on the outside unit, which resulted in loss of freon, had to be fixed. This was deemed a manufacturers problem. After a long argument ARS decided to pay for the repair. On 3/17/2016, during a routine servicing, the tech advised me of another manufacturers problem - a leaking evaporator coil resulting in loss of R410 refrigerant. I was told workmanship will be $585.00 (part is covered by Rheem). Two major problems tell me that this product is a LEMON. I think Rheem should stand behind its products and do not make consumers, especially the elderly, bear the burden of its shoddy manufacturing process. I am just one of the hundreds of Rheem customers who have claimed about their products and I hope some agency will make this company shoulder its burden.
Very displeased with Rheem warranty experience. My water heater burned up and it was a part of a warranty claim. I called and was sent an email and opened up original case where I sent pictures of my burnt up water heater (which I still have my pictures) which this water heater was 4 years old and a part of a recall. After I sent in the pictures I had talked to a lady in regards to getting the pictures. She mentioned that it was really bad and Rheem was going to send me an email so then I can go to Home Depot and find an equivalent water heater at no charge. But when I called in the next day no one had any clue what I was talking about and sent me an email but they started a new case. Which is really odd they would give me a new case number... they must have gave me a new case number since they didn’t want help out with a recalled product. The second case number I got the email that mentioned I am now getting a new part instead of getting a new electric water heater. I have yet to see this supposed part that was issued. There is no way anyone can go this long without a water heater... literally 1 1/2 months. I am truly disappointed with the customer service and time it is taking for this to get taken care of. I had to go out and buy a brand new water heater because I couldn’t wait that long for the part to come in and this was issued 4/28... I had to spend over $600 dollars on this new unit as well as a $250 labor charge for them to remove and replace the new unit. It is pretty sad because when I first sent the picture I was told that because it was burnt up badly that I should be getting an email in regards to an approval to go to Home Depot and find an equivalent one at no charge. But when I called since I didn’t receive the email on the approval to go to Home Depot to get an equivalent one. I called then a new case easy wrote up and they were supposed to send a part. I am very unhappy with the customer service since pretty much nothing has been done to get this fixed fast enough done. This went out 4/23... and it is now 6/15 and I still have not gotten any response back from Rheem. No one ever get Rheem product since they are not helpful at all. This needs to get straightened out because there is no help at all because I am out a lot of money to get this taken care of when Rheem should have taken care of a majority of the expense.
I bought a Rheem Water Heater from Home Depot and had it installed on 2/9/17. Once it was done, I found leak. After talking to Rheems customer technical support rep, she admitted its a leak from the tank and asked me to return it to Home Depot to get a replacement. I had to spend more time and labor cost to uninstall the 1st one and then reinstall the 2nd one. After that, I have asked for a compensation.Rheems customer service team in April asked me to send proof of payment for services such as a copy of your cancelled check FRONT/BACK or a credit card statement. If paid by cash, please be sure to provide the phone number for technician/company so we can confirm payment with them, which I did through both regular mail and email. But so far I have not heard from them anything. When I called Rheems customer service #, they said they wont handle it. I have to contact their billing department. But they wont provide the contact phone #. I had to BBB to help me, but no result. Cant believe how bad their service is. So next time when you buy a water heater, be very careful!
On August 1 2012 I purchased a Rheem HVAC system for my home. It cost $5000. I had it installed by a Rheem certified AC company who SOLD the system to me. I had it serviced per the manufacturers advice. There is a 10-year parts, 1 year labor warranty. EXACTLY 2 years to the day, the blower motor died! Yes, the part was guaranteed BUT I had to pay almost $400 in labor! The tech told me they were having issues with this motor... produced in Mexico. OUTRAGEOUS. An almost 1 year long attempt to get some kind of response from Rheem ensued. I finally wrote the CEO at his Palace near Atlanta. Some corporate puppet with a horrible attitude did ring me. He was reading a script and rudely informed me there was nothing Rheem would do for me. I thanked him for wasting his and my time. Fast forward... 1.5 years later, I HAVE NO AC AND NO HEAT... during a cold spell in Boca Raton, Fl. I called the service company. The tech arrives and immediately tells me, Its working! No surprise there. Well, 2 hours later he proceeds to tell me, Well, in Florida, sometimes the pressure does something to the system, which makes it not function. WHAT!!! So, he fixes the AC part but tells me now I dont have any HEAT! It was 62 in the house. You can buy a heater for $340. Wait I minute!!! I paid for a system that DID give me heat, and now youre telling me I dont have heat, cant have it with this system and the Florida weather is to blame? GIVE ME A BREAK!! So in essence the product was KNOWINGLY sold in a climate that causes it to malfunction. This is pure crap! I am reporting this to my congressperson, who has in the past achieved GREAT results for me! I, like millions of us are SICK AND TIRED OF GETTING RIPPED OFF BY WALL STREET!!! They make this ** in other countries where they pay nothing to these people and charge their FELLOW AMERICANS a price that reflects AMERICAN WAGES, so their evil CEOs etc. can make millions! NO COMPANY SHOULD BE PERMITTED TO SELL PRODUCTS THAT ARE CLEARLY NOT SUITED FOR THE CLIMATE where they are selling it! Dont buy any Rheem Product whatsoever!!! They are pigs!!! I wish a bunch of us could get together and file a class action suit against them. My last ditch effort is to tell the service company, Quality First AC in Pompano Beach, FL that I want a whole new system because they are telling me it is only working 50% since I no longer have heat and I paid for heat. The parts ARE guaranteed right!!! America... Its Ill screw you before you screw me these days. Too bad.
We purchased a home in Florida 10 yrs ago for when we retired. We purchased a brand new complete Rheem AC unit from Heavenly Air in our town in 2012. We were told they would register it and we would have a 10 year warranty. We finally retired and moved in last fall. So actually the unit was never used on a yearly basis, just while we were here for 2 week vacations twice a year. It was set for 85 degrees any other time. The unit stopped throwing cold air. We called Heavenly Air. Yup, out of business and the company that took over will was no help. We called an air conditioner service they said 1200.00 to replace the coil. They reached out to Rheem, Rheem said it was never registered. I don’t have proof as I trusted Heavenly Air. The original manufacturing date sticker on the unit proves its not even 10 yrs old. So, please consider this if you are thinking about purchasing a Rheem system.
October 2012 Plumber purchased a RHEEM water heater at Home Depot for my rental property which failed to work after installation. RHEEM did send their authorized plumber who adjusted the pilot tube to fix delayed ignition problem, at no cost to me. Now 3.5 years later the pilot light wont stay lit and a plumber diagnosed a possible thermocouple problem. Since my tenant wants hot water now I dont have the option to have a part ordered that may or may not fix the problem. The water heater is being replaced today with a plumbers grade water heater. Im thankful for this site because Ill be having central air installed this summer and it will not be a RHEEM product!
I purchased Rheem water heater two years ago. I called today to get the product fix or replace because is still under warranty. After 2 hours of being transfer and on hold, they tell me that they werent able to help. Since the unit was no longer installed the warranty is voided. I explain to Amanda about the reason of not being installed and still no joy. If able try to used another brand or call this company before attempting to fix it yourself. This company is ripping off customers.
Rheem gas hot water heater was purchased new in December 2020. Mid August 2021 the heater stopped all functions. 70 minutes in line behind 61 other callers with technical support people. New, replacement gas valve was shipped and arrived very very promptly. New valve arrived broken. Service tech was scheduled to arrive five days after initial heater failure from 105 miles away. After considering all of this we decided to hire our own service technician, a local plumber, who promptly repaired the Rheem gas water heater. The cost to us for repair, out of pocket, was nearly the same as the original price of the water heater. Needless to say we couldnt possibly be more disappointed. Well have to consider other manufacturers for the first time in forty years. A very unfortunate turn of events.
We purchased a home three years ago, and the previous owners had put in a new water heater the year before. It has a 6 year warranty on it and we are 4 years into it. The water heater failed today. When we contacted RHEEM, they said that the warranty follows the owner. WHAT??? This was definitely a ridiculous and clear way of avoiding the warranty, while not standing behind their product. BUYER BEWARE!!
Hot water heater. Buy 1 yr warranty. Buy 3 yr warranty. Buy 6 yr warranty. Buy 10yr warranty. If in a business, Rheem automatically reduces warranty to 1 yr, regardless if you paid for more warranty or not. Gas valve failure exactly 1 yr 1 mo later and Rheem... reemed us. Water heater $600... new valve... $226. I will never buy anything ever with Rheem on the tag. Un-ethical company.
I bought a Rheem gas water heater and about 2 months later, it makes a loud popping noise and goes out. I call the company and they are rude with me. I have been on the phone back and forth with these people for 2 months and I still do not have hot water. The part they sent did not fix it. My plumber says its not fixable and needs to be returned, but apparently the company is going to go bankrupt if they let me return the water heater and will not give me a return code. I dont know how many things Im expected to do before they finally decide to give me the code. Im beyond frustrated. Im a single mom with cancer and its difficult for me to take my kids and I to someone elses house everyday to shower. If I had the money, I would trash the thing and buy another one (different brand) just so I wouldnt have to deal with this company anymore. I will definitely not be buying another water heater from Rheem ever and I will make sure everyone I know is aware of their lack of friendly customer service and a heart. No one should have to go this long without hot water.
I detected gas leak from less than 1 year old Rheem water heater. Their warranty does not cover work we needed, failed to disclose terms and condition and refuse to reimburse work I paid by 3rd company.
My basement flooded nearly three years ago. I had to replace the water heater down there. I know you buy a Rheem Platinum Performance because Home Depot said it was the best. Now, it is the fourth time I have no hot water. There was even a recall that I did not know about until I called about having no hot water. When the front panel was removed by the repair guy... Several wires were burnt off. Scary. Now Rheem tells me to go buy a digital multimeter and call them back so they can walk me through testing the thing myself. Plus, they are telling me that the warranty ran out in 2015, yep the year that I purchased it. How does that work/ Dont buy a Rheem unless you want a low quality product that the company wont cover when it is broken. In my case there was a real chance of a house fire. Be Warned!
The Rheem tankless water heater is nothing but trouble. We have had constant failure of the unit since it was purchased. I have been on the phone with customer service several times trying to self diagnose the problem along with one of their representatives. The same error code keeps coming up time after time and I cant seem to find any plumber who will work on this unit, apparently because it is such a defective POS that no one wants to touch it. We have even had our gas meter upgraded for a larger one, but the tankless continues to fail. I am hoping to participate in a class action lawsuit against Rheem. The unit is clearly defective and they have offered no solution. In the meantime our family continues to be without hot water several day a week, as paying to have the entire water heater replaced is out of our budget at the time. Considering we spent around $2,500 for it(including installation) 2 years ago, it is quite a disappointment that the company will not even recommend someone for repairs.
We bought our water heater a bit over a year ago. Since then we encountered two pilot assembly repairs and today the water heater started leaking. I will definitely want to pay more in the future and will never ever buy Rheem product again! Shame on this crap of a company!!!!
After 2 years the Classic 50 gal hot water tank makes loud popping and cracking noises. The independent plumber contacted Rheem to fix or replace the tank. In a nut shell Rheem said if is still heating the water ignore the noise. They can not fix. Very poor service and warranty. I do not recommend Rheem.
Approximately, 2 1/2 years ago I purchased a Rheem 3 ton air conditioning unit at a cost of $4,800. In May, 2019 the unit stopped cooling and I called the original installer. They informed me that the copper coil was leaking and would no longer hold Freon. They ordered a replacement part and installed a new coil for a cost of $1,004. This unit was not merchantable from the factory but Rheem maintains that there is only a limited warranty on parts. Rheem is manufacturing lemons and refusing to stand behind its product. It appears there is limited quality control. Other air conditioners I have owned have had minor repairs and lasted 10+ years.
We purchased a home in 2014 that was fully rehabbed before its resale. The previous owner installed a pair of Rheem/Ruud electric heat pumps for the first and second floor heating and cooling. (It looks like the manufacturing date on both was 2012). I had problems with the first floor unit malfunctioning last summer. A heating and cooling place examined it and determined it had some wiring that shorted out. They rewired it successfully and got it going again. Now, this last winter (2018), I started getting huge electric bills and realized the heat pump was running almost continuously. The cause was eventually determined to be a leaking coil in the air handler in the basement. Since were not the original purchaser of the HVAC equipment, none of it is covered under the factory warranty. But the installer advised that these Rheem/Ruud coils are leaking on almost all of the units made around that 2012 time-frame, and its throwing good money after bad to spend the $1000+ to repair it, vs buying a whole new system. At this point, Im just waiting for the 2nd. floor unit to fail as well...
Actually we had to replace a part to central air approx. $120. But the electrician said to be prepared to replace your unit within a year. She's old and past her life expectancy. She's a good girl B/C most die well before this and she only had a couple problems, nothing major. I would stick same brand. Rheem. So we are now checking in on some. And glad we had heads up. Because we could look around and price.
Bought a Rheem water heater in Feb 2012. After 11 months Jan 2013 thermocouple went out. Replaced no charge. Feb 2014 thermocouple goes out again. Will ship the part to me but I need to pay labor. I was told by a Rheem rep the new part has been redesigned but Rheem was not covering labor even though it affect all the water heaters they make. Very angry and disappointed in Rheem product and customer service. At this point labor cost for repair is $95.00 a hour. A lot of money for a unemployed person!!!
I purchase my unit in 2013 and have had trouble with it ever since. The heat works fine, but the a/c does not work for an entire season. When it was first installed it would not stay on because of the water sensor. I had to reset the sensor multiple times, until they finally replaced it. Turned the unit on in 2014 and it didnt come on. They had to come out three times that summer. Now its 2015 and again the unit would not come on. They got it running. A month later it is frozen up because it is leaking. They put in a sealant and now another month later it is leaking again. They refuse to replace it and just keep wasting my time fixing it.
Water heater started to leak water and wont turn back on. Called for services and they told me that a repair person needs to come to inspect item first. Soonest they can sent someone is 2 days later. Have my whole family including 4 kids and disabled father without any hot water. According to them. Thats the best they can do and make me wait.
DO NOT PURCHASE A RHEEM WATER HEATER! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The DAY we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn’t have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so NO WAY we’re we going to get another one. We went to Lowe’s and are out another $410 for a different brand.When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn’t even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot’s fault (they didn’t make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 “Customer Satisfaction Check”. I declined, telling them that didn’t cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently there are no phones at corporate.) So now I’m gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there’s a lawsuit forming out there, I’ll GLADLY join!
They will keep stalling on replacing your water heater until you give up and buy a new one because you need hot water. 12-year warranty tank, only 4 years old. Already had to replace the thermocouple 2 years ago. Second failure now only lets it give hot water for 1-2 minutes and its out. Since this was not my first bad experience with a Rheem heater customer support, I just went straight to a plumber. They told me the tank needs to be replaced. OK, next day I call support, they want me to check a couple things and get back to them, fair enough. Call back 2 days later, they have no record I ever called so we start the entire process again, and they decide to send me a new gas control valve even though the first person I talked to said that didnt fit the symptoms. 2 days later I get it, and install it. Still broken, call back again, by now its been a week without any hot water, and everyone in the house is pissed at me. They want me to run a water temperature test AGAIN for a third time, even though Im already well aware the water gets hot... it just runs out in about 2 minutes. They want to send me another gas control valve, even though I just installed a new one they sent me that day. Which I wouldnt get until Tuesday since its a Saturday. Refuse to allow me to trade it in for a new one, and the supervisor tells me its clearly a plumbing issue since the gas control valve was replaced and I checked the dip tube and its not cracked or broken. He tells me just like a water heater, parts can fail in plumbing. My copper pipes can fail somehow causing hot water to run out quick? With zero plumbing changes? Yeah, OK, they clearly are just coming up with any excuse possible to not give me a working water heater. At this point I need hot water, so I give up and go buy a Whirlpool. Hey, I have all the hot water I want now, turns out my copper pipes didnt break in a fashion that sucks the hot water up. Shocker, it was the water heater. $750 down the drain on a new water heater because their support refuses to actually help.
While we understand the terms of a warranty, when a product dies only a few months after the warranty expires it is extraordinarily disappointing. When we spoke to Rheem about this matter and were concerned about what appears to be a planned obsolescence of a product, they could have cared less. They were disrespectful and rude. Given the option to purchase another water heater in the future we will NOT use Rheem. And when we checked at the local Home Depot we find their warranty which was 9 years has now been reduced to 6 years. And based on their previous warranty if you purchase a Rheem expect it to die around 6 years and a few months. Sad and disappointing.
Pilot light on 2 year old 50 gallon water heater would not stay lit so had to call plumbing company that originally installed. After some piss poor diagnostics by the plumbing company, they finally called Rheem and determined it is the gas valve assembly that is faulty. Part will take two days to arrive. Although part is covered by warranty the labor is not so I will now have to pay $300 for the diagnostic fee and installation of the new valve on a TWO YEAR OLD water heater. Seems there have been numerous reports of this with Rheem.
Bought a new water heater. It did not work when installed. I called service dept. and was told that someone would call me and come fix it. Called back and no work order was put in. 11 days later still waiting. I went to Lowes and bought a different brand. Worked when installed.
I bought a Rheem water heater in June. Well 5 months later, it started showing errors on the gas control. Also I would sometimes have hot water and other times I would not. Had their service techs come and try and fix. Called Rheem Numerous times and they said it was the gas control and sent me a new one. The tech comes over and installs the new gas control and guess what still doesnt work and I have no hot water. I call Rheem and they say we will send you another gas control. I say you just sent me a brand new one. He says Yes I know. I say I have a family with no hot water for two weeks now and I want you to get me a new water heater under the warranty as its only 5 months old. Rheem says no we wont do that. So I had to buy another water heater and not Rheem of course because I had no hot water heater that would work and all three techs said they couldnt fix it and Rheem wouldnt replace it. Rheem doesnt stand by their warranty. I called Rheem again and told them Im going to have to take them to small claims court and they said ok, good luck to you. This company is horrible and doesnt stand by their work or warranty. I asked them to reimburse me for the water heater and they said no.
I purchased over $30,000.00 of Rheem products for my home being told they were the best by HVAC contractors. Yes it was the best for them because they always fail and need service. I am on my second instant Hot water tank that just failed once again. The Rheem people are curt, and dont deal with consumers well. I had to pay for an electrician to see if I had enough power, which I told them I had, then I had to get the plumber back a number of times. First it may be the fuses, OK Then it may be the Keypad OK another $85.00 OK then it may be the computer board, or the fan, or some more fuses maybe another $500.00 plus labor.I just played that game with one of my 4 ton Prestige HVAC units $2,000.00 on service & parts. None of the codes were right, all the 6 parts for thousands never worked, and then they changed the handler, after a month of no heat and $2,000 paid to a HVAC company. Anybody wants to know more contact me. I have went through 4 keypads on my Raypak heat pump another Rheem product, and my other 4 ton heat pump has a loud knocking bearing noise that I will live with. I wish I could get away with doing business like this.... Stay away. It is a money hole.
I purchased my air conditioner from Lindstrom here in Delray Beach Fla... After only 3 years the coils went bad... I was told by Lindstrom that Rheem had been having problems with coils. My parts were under warranty but the labor would be $700.00. I lived in Pennsylvania where most people have Carrier Units... having had 4 different homes, I have never had a problem with an air conditioner unless it hit the 15 yr mark... I am sorry that I purchased a Rheem and will continue to tell others on social media... I am irate that Lindstrom continues to do business with Rheem and I believe that their business will suffer because of unhappy customers if they continue to do so....living on Social Security, I will continue to try to warn others so that they wont have this happen to them...
Purchased a new Ruud 2.5-ton heat pump system in January of 2013. Have had nothing but trouble with this system every since it was installed. 14 months after it was installed is when the troubles started. Technician came out to find the system to have no refrigerant and found that a factory solder joint was leaking in the outdoor heat pump. Repair was made and in April of 2016 system stopped again technician found system to be out of refrigerant again due to a leaking outdoor coil, replaced outdoor coil, system stopped again in April of 2017 technician for evaporator coil to be leaking, replaced evaporator coil, system stopped again in Dec. 2017 due to a defective coil temp sensor, replaced sensor, system stopped again in Dec. 2018 due to a defective compressor, when compressor was replaced technician found that the expansion valve was also defective which caused the compressor to fail, replaced compressor and expansion valve, system stopped again in Jan. 2020 due to expansion valve failing again, The contractor that did the installation of the system contacted Ruud and I also contacted Ruud to file a lemon complaint. Apparently Lisa whom I had spoken with and did not hear back from until 2 weeks later got with Wayne whom the contractor had spoken with must have gotten together at some point because they both told the contractor and myself the same story. I have spent over $3500 in repairs and Ruud only was willing to pay $225 labor fee to replace the expansion valve a second time. I decided to replace my heat pump. I would not recommend buying Ruud/Rheem systems. They are junk.

Two months after purchasing three Rheem hot water heater on July 6, 2015, the water started smelling like rotten eggs in two of them. Contacted Home Depot where I purchased them. They told me the heaters were still under manufacturers warranty. I contacted Rheem numerous times via email on Rheems website and did not get a reply. Home Depot then gave me their number. Spoke with a representative who told me it was not their problem it was my water. I explained about the other heater that did not smell. She said I would have to purchase a chlorinator for each heater about $250 ea. and sent me an email with information where to buy them. I said it was the anode rods and they said that was not covered under the warranty. After that, a friend would flush the heaters with hydrogen peroxide and that would help until I went out of town. I was tired of asking him to do this so contacted Home Depot again on Jan. 8, 2017. This time they told me to call Asurion, the extended warranty I bought. That was a huge waste of time and money as they gave me the runaround too! After reporting Home Depot to the BBB, I was contacted and they contacted Rheem. Rheem called a plumber, told them to call me to call them to open a claim with them. I called Rheem and they told me the same thing they told me a year and a half ago. So Im back to square one.
My wife is worried our original Rheem 81V52D 50 gallon water heater is going to go out. I replaced the lower heater about 12 years into its life; only been drained once. 4 people live here and I'm the only 5 minute showering man. Good recovery from back to back showers for 1 hour. Now the hard part is getting a dual 4500 W unit like I had.
I purchased the biggest, best tankless hot water tank Rheem makes. After two years it starting leaking like a sieve, so I took it back to Home Depot where I bought it and they replaced it. Two years later same issue, same problem, but this time it quit totally. Efficiency is nice but the aggravation every two years is not worth it. Stay away from this junk!
After plumber installing a Home Depot Rheem 40 gal hot water tank, 1 week pilot goes out. It wont relight, customer service said it needs a new pilot something (in the meantime no hot water for tenant), get new part, then find out it needs a new burner will mail it within a week. In the meantime I buy a new tank, not it inconvenience tenant. Today on line with customer service for 1 1/2 hour and they will not replace tank. THE WORST I HAVE EVER DEALT IN MY 70 YEARS.
For those who do not like to read long reviews, all I can say is that I cannot be more disappointed than I am with Rheem. Simply DO NOT buy a Rheem product, unless you like dealing with a product of marginal quality, and a customer support team that is beyond incompetent. Early in 2017 our 40 gal water heater needed to be replaced. We went to a local store and found a nice Rheem (or so we thought) gas water heater. Had it installed professionally, good to go. Soon after installation, every time the burner lit, there would be a loud bang of a small gas explosion. We called Rheem, and they said they ...have no technicians in the area, call a local plumber to look at it and well reimburse you. OK. We did as directed. The plumber came over and suggested a complete replacement of the burner assembly. Rheem declined, and sent only a small part. It didnt fix the problem. Another call to Rheem. And another. And another, with repeated visits by the plumber. Finally, after three months of back-and-forth, Rheem sent a full burner assembly. It fixed the problem. We then read the instructions on how to get reimbursed. It was quite complicated, and required all sorts of paperwork, including a W-9 from the plumber (even though Rheem must have had records of all calls and directions). I submitted the paperwork via email. I waited. And waited. No acknowledgment of receipt of paperwork. I called Rheem. After being put on hold for 1/2 hour, I finally talked to a representative. They claim that my reimbursement had never arrived (this is email, folks, if it doesnt arrive, you get a bounce-back message). I patiently resubmitted the paperwork via email. And waited. And waited. I called again 2 months later. By this time the fun had dragged on for 5 months. The rep said that the paperwork had been received, but that it was under review and a decision would be made whether or not to refund within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed. No check. The clock is now at 6 1/2 months in this story. At about 8 weeks, I tried calling again. The customer service option when calling Rheem was disconnected. I tried calling the contractor line, but they would not talk to me unless I had a contractor license number. I told them that the residential customer line was disconnected, and they babbled something about a technical problem. Right. Sure... I went to the plumber and asked for assistance. They called the contractor line, spoke to someone, and that person said the check would be sent immediately, and that there had been a problem with the paperwork I had sent (they had never told me this).When the plumber asked what the problem was, the Rheem representative couldnt be specific. At this point I was getting ready to go to small claims court. Three weeks after the plumbers call, the check finally arrived. Ive deposited it, and, based on historical activities, have my fingers crossed that it doesnt bounce. In the end, Rheem reimbursed us over $600 for repairs to an $800 water heater. If they had just authorized the full burner assembly requested at the first call, it would have been closer to $150. I have dealt with terrible customer service in my past, but this is a new low. And sadly, from what I understand, this is a more common occurrence than any decent company should allow. DO NOT BUY RHEEM!! By the way, the technical issue with the residential customer service line is still on-going, 4 weeks after I first encountered it. Pathetic.
Hands down the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. Not only do they have you holding on the phone for hours and when I mean hours I mean whole hours, they cant even assist or communicate reimbursement procedure effectively. After being told by one representative that he would be sending an email with how to submit for reimbursement within hours, I had to call back after a few days to advise I did not receive such email. Another rep advised the reason I didnt receive the email was that they did not have the necessary voucher to send...so why not say that from the first call or someone reach out me to advise instead of me waiting on an email that was never to arrive. As we speak Im literally on hold for what seems like another hour just to speak to a manager. P.s. This is all due to a defective part on a water heater that was installed less than year ago.
Every time I leave for over the road, I come back house is cold, when it warms up, I shut it off, then need heat and nothing, its always sensors, gas valve sticks. The furnace gets new filter every month, dust out top of furnace, and plagued with issues, oh and the air conditioner, when it cycles off sounds like it gears are being stripped. Thats normal after a year of whinnying, Never again will I buy Rheem. 96% efficiency my butt. My hydro goes up while I wait for repair guy.
Had to replace our original HVAC which was 13 yrs. old. Went thru Home Depot and they suggested RHEEM and was installed by ARS. It didnt work right away, and I have to tell them that we were moving into a hotel since they guaranteed that it will be done within 24 hrs. or they will move us into a hotel. Well, they worked overtime the next day so they didnt have to move us. Installed August 2013 and we had cooling problems April 2016, HVAC repairer said low on freon, warned us that it might be leaking. June 2016, cooling problems again, same HVAC repairer came and said it was blocked drain and suggested we avail of their maintenance plan and we did.August 22, 2016 cooling problems again. HVAC repairer came at night and concluded that coil has a leak and was 90% sure it was the coil inside because the outside unit coils didnt have any signs of leakage. For this visit we paid $177 labor and freon refill. So far we have spent $700 for the three visits. To replace the coil it will cost $500 plus and that is already with our membership discount. This RHEEM brand is a piece of junk and reading through all other reviews, Im so mad that I didnt do my research and trusted the Home Depot specialist. The only consolation I have is that I took a maintenance plan so at least I get a 15% discount every time they have to do repairs.
Buying Rheem Seer 20 heat pump/ac unit is the worst investment of our lives. Three months after buying it quit and installer said it needed to replaced but under warranty. Waited 2 months and installed in December. Incredibly loud!!!! Sounds like a loud compressor running beside the house. If the outside temperature gets cold it is very inefficient warming the house. At -10C (14F) it couldn't keep the house warm and we had frozen pipes! Incredibly disappointed to have to live with this horrible investment. If I win the lottery this will be the first thing I replace.
I paid $5,200 cash by check for a new Rheem HVAC install to ARS RDU, NC on 9/23/14. The unit failed on 6/27/15. Was told not enough coolant was installed. The unit failed again nine days later on 7/6/15. Replaced the TXV valve. Now on 5/27/16, ten months later, the unit has failed again and is being worked on by ARS a third time after having the system under a service plan visit on 11/12/15. I have been told twice that sometimes you just get a bad machine like you do a bad car. Is that the best customer response that ARS and RHEEM can do? REALLY! Was my money bad and therefore I was given a bad HVAC? If my money was good, I should be given a good HVAC. I would like to know the best point of contact I can make to air my grievances and wanted to warn others about my experience.
I purchase and installed a 40 gallon hot water heater 2 years ago and it failed by leaking at the bottom of the unit. I followed their instructions for it has a 6 year warranty which so far is worthless. For 2 weeks all I get is busy signal when I call the number they provided. They provide no other way to lodge a trouble ticket or complaint. I will NEVER buy on their products again.
I have been trying to deal with this problem for four days now. I called Rheem company several times today and was given divergent information. They gave me the number of installers, which then asked me to get a work order. I called Rheem they said they sent the order but it got refused. I called installer back again and conference called Rheem which then said that I would have to call the distributor instead. I was finally able to locate the distributor, who said they would be able to replace the water heater for a $150 service (provided I transport the old/new tanks). But they requested a voucher or authorization in order to provide me with a water heater replacement. I called Rheem 800 number yet again and the person transferred me to the warranty department which is now closed for business. Im going to be yet without hot water for another weekend. This is horrible customer service, giving me the running around!!! The water heater is less than a year old!
I purchased three separate Rheem HVAC units for three of my house. Has one unit failed within three months and needed a new water pump. One unit failed within 9 months and needed a new fan motor and the third unit managed to last two years and needed a new condensing fan motor. For what you pay for these systems I cant even see one of them failing this quickly but three systems is inexcusable and I dont run my air conditioning hard at all. I keep my house at 81 degrees and the two other houses are kept at about 75 or 76 degrees. There is no excuse for these units to fail this quickly.Every time I call Rheem they just tie me up in questions about serial numbers and product numbers and they never give me a firm answer as to why the systems failed so quickly and they obviously have never made any offer to reimburse the expenses of repairing these systems. The first two were covered under the warranty. The third one was not because it failed in two years so I was stuck paying for the repair. Im actually afraid to use my air conditioning for what might break down next and I cant see these systems lasting 10 or 20 years. If theyre breaking down like this now I dont know who regulates HVAC companies but Rheem needs to be reported. They are either making substandard products or they are pawning off reconditioned systems as new systems.
Basically, I bought two Ruud/Rheem air conditioners from a local company and the 2011 air conditioner started to leak Freon as far as I can tell in 2016. Upon investigation and numerous calls I became aware that the company is selling units with copper coils (aluminum is the best choice) that are eaten through by the Freon and thus cause leaks in the coils which and in turn the unit shuts down.The company denies that they are having significant problems and will not help me financially address the repair. So, at this time I am repairing my air conditioner from my own Pocket even though I bought the units in good faith along with the assurance that Ruud/Rheem was a trustworthy company, WHICH THEY HAVE PROVEN ARE NOT TO BE.When I called the company, the customer service representative was in complete denial of the problem and I think they were trained to say certain pat answers to avoid liability. I Highly suggest that everyone reading this write or call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION as I did and a rep will call to take your complaint and if enough people do so there will be a federal investigation based on the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT, look it up to educate oneself.
I had to replace the Rheem hot water heater in my grandmas house 3 times in 2year. This time the heater has a recall on a part that rheem cant even get and even if they could it would still cost me $145 to have someone install it. I have to go buy a new water heater (it will not be rheem again) and the company has an Oh well attitude. I hope this review save people time and especially money. I wish I had read the reviews.
Rheem Heating and Cooling - I called this number 1-479-646-4311 since I didnt see any contact number for customer service in their website. It is a good number for a low quality heating and cooling products business. Rheem is not a good company because they sell lemons for heat pumps. I had to spend more than $2,000.00 for a 3 years old unit in repair labor and R-410A. The unit had the reversion valve replaced before (only parts are covered by the Rheem warranty), more than a year ago, and now it needs the txv to be replaced. The unit was still leaking R-410A according to one HVAC technician that recharged the unit couple times. The contractor (Rolph HVAC from Seaford, Delaware) that installed our heat pump does not do business with Rheem, according to the owner/representative, because of bad experiences with that company. When I talked with the customer service representative from Rheem to complain about our heat pump, she said that Rheem will replace the part that is on warranty, but labor costs are between the customer and the installer. I had to explain to her that because of a defective unit from her company (Rheem), I had to spend money every year on repairs for a new unit that is only 3 years old and that should not be that way. This unit should be working without any issues for many years and should not be like what it is now, a money waster. The customer representative was helpless, and she referred me back to the company (who are making money out of this situation, of course) that installed the unit. This is not right - selling and installing defective units so the customer have to pay for repairs and labor for a brand new cheap Chinese heat pump unit. I will never buy a Rheem product again since they have these cheap Chinese defective new products and bad customer service.
I bought a GE/Rheem 40-gal. power vent hot water heater in June of 2009, Model # GG40T06PVK00, and last week it quit. AB lights on. I turned it off for 10 minutes, turned it back on and watched through the window. I watched the igniter turn red and the gas turned on the burner, lit for a second or two and a click and it shut down and recycled and lit again, this time staying on. This has happened 2 more times. I had an A.O. Smith power vent for 10 years and the only reason I replaced it was because I didnt want to spend $175 on the new power vent that was coming apart. The heater still looked and worked great. My GE/Rheem is just 3 years old and you never know if you will have hot water or not.
It worked for one day then I had to call for repair, they shipped a part but they wouldnt pay for labor nor had a field service staff to help with. I had to pay for a plumber. 3 days later broke again and Rheem washed their hands off. Basically a brand new water heater that doesnt work. It is not on their radar for customer service. I will never purchase from them again nor I suggest anybody does.
There are lots of problems at the start. Finally, it was fixed after Rheem sent a man from the home office. it worked for four years then went to heck. The cost to me at this point is over $1800 from their techs out of Denver and plumbers in the Greeley area trying to fix them. Rheem sent one new unit out but not enough pipe to install, and then I was informed that I was going to have to tear out part of my finished home to install and they wanted me to install the 1st unit before they replaced the 2nd. What a mess, and thousands to install. Now the head tech at Rheem, Mr. Daniel **, has been dragging this out; hes not returning phones and doing nothing to help me. Hes not even giving me an answer to what they will do. I am so sick of this. So very much money to buy and install at the start and now there is no hot water and more and more costs, all because Rheem 1st tankless system and venting was not right, so you, the homeowner, must figure out how to get hot water in the home where there is no place/room to install, no electric or water or gas lines to change to some other type of heat. Just tear down a new home and pay thousands of dollars to get hot water.
They dont make water heaters like they used to, thats for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowes and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didnt keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesnt mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. What a joke.
I installed several same type of Rheem water heaters in my apartments. One of them keeps turning off pilot. I called the Rheem customer support and technique support several times. Every time, I have to wait for long long time before I was able to talk to the support. Every time, they sent me a new pilot assembly since my water heater is still under warranty. I have to spend a lot of money to hire professional to install the pilot for me. The latest one was installed last week but the pilot was off again today. I think that the water heater really has a defect since beginning so the pilot was off again and again since my another same type of Rheem water heater works well so far that was installed in another apartment within the same fourplex building. The two apartments and locations for the water heater are identical. Honestly, I requested Rheem to replace the water heater for me since it is under warranty and it has defects. But Rheem refused to replace my water heater, instead kept sending me a new pilot. But every time, I had to pay for professionals to install it. If the water heater has a problem, I dont think that it is useful to change the pilot again and again.
We confidentially purchased a Rheem. Got water heater a few years ago. Well it failed. I called Rheem to enact the warranty and customer service told me they were sending an email with directions to take photos. After taking said photos I was to call them back 15 minutes after sending the email. After much confusion, I did (I had no idea what a heat exchanger was.. Thank goodness for it Youtube). On the return call I was informed that it was under full warranty and to remove the unit and return it to the original place of purchase. If the new unit costs more I am responsible for the difference but ... I would get a brand new warranty. If it was the same price the old warranty would still be in effect. So I hang up and call the plumbing supply store where we purchased the unit. I was told that Not only do I have to pay the entire cost of the unit up front (I will be allegedly be reimbursed for the original purchase price after Rheem reimburses them) but I have to pay a “service fee” of $125! I also have to pay a plumber to come and uninstall the defective unit then pay again to have him install the new unit! How is this a full warranty? Never again. It’s costing me a fortune to replace a defective unit! These expenses should be on Rheem not me.
I bought a Rheem heating and air unit back in 200. The whole thing is going out now. Had a warranty for 5 years. Shortly after the warranty expires have to put a new fan motor. The electric component on a side went out and now the compressor is out which run anywhere between 1700 and $3,000 and theyre saying that my condenser looks like it might be going out so I need a whole new unit on top of all this. My heater motor bearings are going out so now I need a whole new unit.Poor customer service from Hannah here in Andover, Kansas. Ive read a lot of customer complaints. It seems to me these the Rheem manufacturers cannot get their act together so its time for somebody to do something. A new unit could cost me between $5,000 to $6,500 and up not including the parts and labor that Ive already paid for poor quality parts. What is anybody going to do about this? I am the man that will do something if theres lawsuits that need be filed so be it and Im sure with 300 other online reviews and customer complaints a lot of will go a lot with us. I see all of these bad reviews of the Rheem water heaters and notice that many seem to be purchased at a retail level either thru their plumber or directly from Home Depot or other home improvement outlet. We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I researched which water heater to install before building, even talked to the Rheem folks. I told the plumber what I wanted. After much grousing, he installed what I wanted and I even got him to submit the registration paperwork that extended the warranty by 4 years ( one of the reasons I wanted it.).
Rheem does not honor their warranty. My plumber installed two Rheem water heaters in my two family and it worked great for two years. Three months ago, one of them burst at the bottom and flooded my basement. It was not a problem because I got 6 or 7-year warranty on the product. I then called Rheem they confirmed that the product is under warranty. They gave me a return number and advised me that I should take the defective heater back to where I purchased it.The contractor took it back but the distributor where it was originally purchased said that they will not exchange. I contacted Rheem and they told me to try another distributor--same thing, no exchanges. I called several more and asked Rheem if they could ship me one they said no. This has been ongoing for three months so I eventually contacted the BBB. Rheem said that they would give me a fair market value. This turns out to be about $400 when a new heater cost is about $800--not fair at all.Please do not purchase from Rheem because they do not honor their warranty. I purchased a different brand to replace the defective one. You will get ** when your heater fails. I had to pay an additional $400 for a new heater.
Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheems advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to diagnose the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years. The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a discount and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind! These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that Ill have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before its even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.
Yesterday around 5:30 pm I heard a loud popping sound and looked up. Saw sparks coming from the lower level of my home. Upon further investigation, I started to see and smell smoke. Once I figured out where the smoke was coming, I quickly discovered the source of the smoke, which was from my Rheem hot water heater that had caught on fire.
I bought a Rheem water heater, Model ELD80B, 14 months ago and was told it had a 4-year warranty. The heating element leaked and failed. I was told it would take 2 to 3 days to get a part. We are in the restaurant business and would have to close. I found the part at an appliance part house for $44 and hired a company to pick it up and bring to my store for $112, then called the company that sold and installed the heater (United Plumbing - Woodland Hills, CA) and they sent out a tech and it took about 30 minutes and I was charged an additional $475. I called Rheem and was told to read the fine print. They would only cover the whole unit if it had to be replaced and if it could be repaired like my unit did, it would not be covered.
The condenser coil in my 6 year old AC unit is leaking and no longer cools my house which is 90 degrees. The part is under warranty but is on backorder and has to be manufactured. A month and a half later in the 90 degree summer I still dont have the part and Rheem can not tell me an estimated time of arrival. What good is a warranty if Rheem can not fulfill it? A $1,000 repair under warranty is going to turn into a new unit (NOT a Rheem) for $6,000 plus. I will never buy a Rheem again! I have seen multiple other reviews saying the condenser coils in Rheem AC units typically are replaced prematurely due to poor design. Buyer beware.
My house came with a Rheem water heater. It was 5 yrs old when we moved in, after 3 year it started to leak and corrode around the top. We replaced it with another Rheem in 2013 brand new. In 2016 it failed, just stopped working. I called the plumber who installed it. He said nothing he can do so I called Rheem. They said I need to check it with a multimeter? The guy told me to go buy one. I asked my plumber who got on the phone and he somehow got them to replace the water heater, but I have to purchase another warranty.Five hundred and fifty dollars later to be installed it was working but not as hot as our last one. Then one year later 2017 it stops working again. My plumber is disabled and retired, so I call Rheem and after being on hold for hours they tell me again to get a multimeter to check whats wrong. If is electronics or an element they can tell me how to replace it. First of all, my parents had water heaters for 40 years. These only last for year? Im no electrician, Im not taking apart a water heater and fixing this junk! Im done buying anything from this bottom feeder. That is why they are in the home improvement stores. They are junk!
Please DISREGARD the bad review. It was not a Rheem issue. My mistake. Explanation (maybe others can learn from my mistake): The catch pan at the bottom of the water heater filled with water up to the overflow pipe that goes to the drain. I vacuumed the water out and made sure no water could enter from the drain pipe. (The drain pipe is also used by the furnace and air-conditioner.) After a few hours there was more water in the catch pan. I assumed this was confirmation that it came from a leak in the water heater. I was wrong!I vacuumed out the water again, called the service number and wrote the bad review. After several hours I notice the catch pan was still dry. After a full day it was still dry???. I then realized the water I thought was coming from a leak in the water heater must have come from water that collected in the water heaters insulation which gradually dripped out. So the real source of the water in the catch pan was water that back-flowed from my furnace/air-conditioner. As for Rheems support, I called the service number. They listen to my story and scheduled a service visit for the next workday. I received a call from the service provider (Sals) a few hours later. They were very pleasant and told me they would call a 1/2 hour before arrival. Fortunately, I was able to cancel the appointment. Again, Sals was very gracious and glad all was working ok.
Buyer beware. Paperwork that came w/ hot water heater says it has 9 year warranty. Failed after 6-1/2 years (tank leaked/not fixable). Escalated issue to Customer service Supervisor, said warranty only 6 yrs. Not covered and nothing they could do. Wasted 6 phone calls to company to try to get them to issue me some coverage under warranty. Somehow it was my problem that the paperwork that came with my hot water heater was wrong and I was suppose to know this.
I wish some told me not to buy this water heater from Rheem. Day one: the water heater will not stay on. We called and they sent a new thermostat. It happen over a weekend so that was 4 days no hot water. Here we are 4 months later and the hot water heater wont stay lit again. Weve been on hold the whole day waiting for a customer service personnel that never answered the phone. I finally hung up around 3:30 p.m. to call back and find out that they are now closed. Are so many people unhappy with their water heaters that I couldnt even talk to a person? Guess so. Ive given up. I guess Im out of the $792 I spent because Im buying a different new water heater. I dont have $800 to waste. This will hurt my family. Rheem should be ashamed.
We had a new high efficiency 50 gallon #CNRHE50 serial #A251507425 Rheem hot water tank installed in 2015. March of 2018 we noticed that we had no hot water and there was some leaking in the pan below. Our installer thought it might need a Valve replacement but after further investigation he found it needed to be totally replaced. Thank goodness we had a full warranty for replacement. We are now out of pocket $551.25 for service charges. We are not happy and will never get another Rheem hot watertank again!
I purchased a Rheem hot water heater a year ago and it stop working. I called for assistance, and got a girl who talked to me like I was a child she was very rude. Rheem customer service experience was one of the worst I have ever experienced! If you want to waste money, time and get insulted purchase a Rheem!
Got the Rheem tankless water heater in 2015 through the contractor we used at the time for purchasing and installing the water heater/furnace. The townhouse was under major renovations until October 2016 when we moved in. The water heater worked perfectly until the beginning of March 2018, when we started to get the ERROR code 11. Since then, until the current date May 9, 2018 the issue has not been resolved. Manufacturer is blaming the installer and keeps telling us that the product must be re-installed in order to work. So lets revise: it worked perfectly for 1 1/2 year and now when it is not working, it is because it was not installed as per requirements... The contractor I am currently using to resolve the issue has been back and forth with the manufacturer numerous times but their customer service is extremely poor and very frustrating with no real help or viable solutions. STAY AWAY FROM RHEEM PRODUCTS.
I had a new Rheem Classic Heating and Air Conditioner installed on 6-14-2012, or at least my Homeowners insurance did. After receiving 2 bids for replacement, my insurance company awarded the bid to a dealer who installed Rheem Units. The unit was a combo heating and air conditioner unit that sits outside, at the back of the house. It is a RRNL unit. It is a 2- 1/2 ton unit, which was the size of the one replaced. The old one kept our house cool in the summer and warm in the winter, unit it suffered hail damage that rendered it useless.Long story short, the new unit has never worked right as it does not even come close to cooling our house. Of course our old unit had real Freon in it where the new unit uses the 410A stuff. Unit has already had to have compressor replaced, has already had to have Freon added once and needs again and a new fan motor. It is not even 4 years old yet. The fan on the unit runs continually and never shuts off in the summer. We keep the thermostat set at 72 and according to the digital readout, the unit never cools the house down to this point, thus running day and night.I had to pay $200.00 labor to have the compressor replaced under warranty, which I dont think I should have had to do. When the fan went out a couple of weeks ago, I asked the installer/repairman if there was any recalls on this unit and do they ever get a LEMON in these. He told me no on both questions. I had to pay to have Freon installed, but the fan was replaced under warranty and he did not charge me to switch out. I am really dissatisfied with this unit and which I had my old one back, or at least this one replaced.
Total failure of gas water heater less than two months old. Nightmare dealing with Rheem. Took awhile to realize that they were not going to stand behind their product and provide adequate customer service. Cost us a lot of time and money, physical labor and mental anguish.
Please dont purchase a rheem heating/ac unit. I purchased a Rheem unit in November 2014 and my ac unit has already gone out twice this summer. I have been dealing with this problem since April through August 2016. I have had an ac tech person come to my residence on several occasion trying to find out why my ac unit doesnt hold the freon that was put in come to find out it was leaking freon in the coil; the ac tech guy ordered a new coil which I had to pay for the shipping cost and after installation on the new coil it still leaked freon only at a faster level. The freon would go out after 24 hours of being put in the system.I spent a $3500 on this unit only to be a piece of junk, save yourself the time and trouble on the product and dont buy at all. I have already emailed the company they called but no return call at this time. I dont understand why Consumer Affairs doesnt have this product or company pay for the problems it is causing if you read the reviews many people are going through the same problem. This company should not be selling products at all they are already in trouble for selling faulty water heaters.
