Amana Refrigerator Repairs

If you're looking for help fixing your Amana Refrigerator, look no further! Our comprehensive Amana Refrigerator repair guide will explain common issues, provide tips, and maybe show you how to repair your appliance.

For the home, kitchen and beyond, Amana manufactures appliances that homeowners have come to trust. Even a trustworthy appliance requires occasional maintenance or repair, however. If you’re in need of Amana appliance repair from experienced professionals, your local Appliance Helper can help.

Amana Refrigerator leaking water
Clogged or Freezing Defrost Drain. If the defrost drain is frozen, the water will overflow the drain trough and drip down to the bottom of the compartment. This water can eventually leak onto the floor. Check the defrost drain to determine if it is clogged or frozen. If the defrost drain is frozen, thaw the ice. In addition, flush the drain with hot water to ensure that it is clear of debris.

Amana Refrigerator freezer is cold but refrigerator is warm
The Evaporator Coils are Frosted Over. The defrost heater assembly turns on a few times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost heater assembly is defective, frost will continue to accumulate on the evaporator coils, and the coils will become plugged with frost. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, the airflow through the coils will be restricted, causing the refrigerator not to cool. Check the evaporator coils to determine if they are frosted over. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, test each component of the defrost system.

Amana Refrigerator defrost drain clogged
Clogged or Freezing Defrost Drain. The defrost drain might be clogged or frozen. If the defrost drain is frozen, the water will overflow the drain trough and drip down to the bottom of the compartment. If the defrost drain is frozen, thaw it out and ensure that the drain is clear of debris.

Amana Refrigerator is noisy or loud
Fan Blade. If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when one of the doors are opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, check out the evaporator fan blade in the freezer behind the back panel. Try turning it by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade in the back underside of the refrigerator to determine if it has any obstructions.

Amana Refrigerator not defrosting
Defrost Control Board. The defrost control board determines how often to run the defrost cycle. If the board fails, the refrigerator will not go into the defrost cycle. Before replacing the defrost control board, first test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are working properly, the defrost control board is likely defective.

Amana Refrigerator ice dispenser not working
Dispenser Control Board. The dispenser control board governs most of the functions of the dispenser system. If the control board is faulty, it may stop supplying power to the entire dispenser system. If only one dispenser part is not working, test each of the dispenser components before testing the control board. It is more likely that a single part has failed. If the entire dispenser system is not working, the control board is more likely to be at fault.

Amana Refrigerator ice maker not working
Freezer Temperature is Above 10 Degrees F (-12C). If the freezer temperature is above 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12C), the ice maker will not produce ice cubes efficiently. The freezer temperature should be set between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -15C) for the ice maker to work properly. If the freezer temperature is too high, ensure that the condenser coils are clear of debris and the condenser fan is working properly. In addition, check to see if frost has accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, part of the defrost system has likely failed.

Amana Refrigerator water dispenser not working
Water Tube in Door is Frozen. To determine if the water supply tube is frozen, disconnect the tube at the bottom of the door and blow air through it. If air does not pass through, this indicates that the water supply tube is frozen. If the water supply tube is frozen, thaw it out. In addition, ensure that the freezer is kept at the proper temperature. The freezer temperature should be kept from 0-10 degrees Fahrenheit. If the freezer is too cold, the water line may freeze.

Amana Refrigerator not cooling
Condenser Coils are Dirty. The condenser coils are usually located under the refrigerator. They dissipate heat as refrigerant passes through them. If the condenser coils are dirty, they won’t dissipate the heat effectively. As debris builds up on the coils, the refrigerator becomes less efficient, causing the refrigerator to work harder to cool down. If the coils are significantly dirty, the refrigerator will not be able to maintain the proper temperature. Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty—if the condenser coils are dirty, clean them.

We purchased the Amana refrigerator 8 years ago from Alabama Power Company and we have multiple problems over the years. For example, the ice maker sometimes dispenses the ice and sometimes it will not. Also, we have not the water valve intake gone bad and saturated our carpets. We had replaced it at the tune of approximately $300 and time off work having to wait on the repairman. Now, once again it has gone bad and we are again waiting on a repairman. I am very disgruntled with this since we did pay good money and continue with practically a new refrigerator which should last many years.

Since the purchase of the Amana fridge, installed 4/2014 has been repaired 3 times and now the icemaker has failed again. Called to schedule a repair and was told that the policy has been cancelled for non-payment. The extended warranty and unit are paid in full at the time of purchase! Of all the appliances Ive owned in the last 45 years, this is undoubtedly the worst of the bunch. Am I required to go through the hassle of making a copy and sending it to prove the warranty is still in force? No! What a runaround! DO NOT PURCHASE AMANA PRODUCTS! Unless you want a lemon and have to make your own ice. To date, the water pump and icemaker has been replaced. 1st replacement of the icemaker was put in wrong and had to have service tech come back to fix that issue.

I purchased an Amana refrigerator with a bottom freezer four years ago. I have now found out it needs $250 worth of repairs because the computer board has gone out and it was not going into the defrost cycle. As a result the bottom freezer was frosted up and the refrigerator was not working properly. Yes the repairs are cheaper than a new refrigerator, but I am still disappointed. This was not a cheap unit. I have had Amana appliances in the past and was pleased with them which is why I purchased this refrigerator. The model number of my refrigerator is ABB1924WEW1 with a serial number of K11438301.

I just have to write a review on our 25 year old Amana refrigerator. In all these years we have never had to have any repairs done and it works awesome! We had to put this refrigerator in the basement 20 years ago because did not match our upstairs appliances but we still kept it in use. 5 1/2 years ago we purchased and Frigidaire and have had problems since day one. After having to completely shutting down our newer fridge 4 time and thawing it because the water line kept freezing up causing the ice maker not to work, we rehooked up our ice maker on the Amana and it works like a charm. I would buy an Amana over Frigidaire any day!!!

I purchased a refrigerator in 2008, Amana. In 2013 the refrigerator failed and stopped working. I called and of course the warranty is no longer valid. In order to fix the 5 year old refrigerator I had to purchase another warranty for 347.00. So here we are 2 years later and again the refrigerator is not working, so I called them and they cant help me - only if I buy another warranty for now 414.00. These people are scam artist and I think we all should start a class action suit against Amana. They are crooks.

My fridge is seven and a half years old. It is an SS Amana side-by-side. About three years ago, so it was five years old at the time, the fridge stopped cooling. And when the repair man came, out the freezer coils were all frosted up. At this time, he replaced the defrost timer but said he did not feel comfortable that that was it. That was in June. In November, it happened again. We replaced it yet again. Well, it now happened at least every three to four months. Sometimes we can reset the timer and it will work for a while again. I have read all the reviews and they are so numerous I cannot even read them all. Obviously, something with this product is extremely faulty. I have asked them to come out and get to the root cause of the problem, and they insist on charging me just for the service call. Thats not to mention the part cost. I really wish I could afford a new fridge because this one is a real pain in the neck. I’m so frustrated. I will never ever buy an Amana product again.

We inherited an Amana refrigerator which was about 10 years old. Per the previous owner, it’s been worked on before since warranty companies refuse to replace an item regardless of repair cost. Our compressor went out. 900+ dollars to repair. I’ve never had a such issues with a refrigerator but I also usually buy Kenmore or Maytag. Also the ice maker doesn’t work regularly but we can’t get that looked at until the compressor issue is resolved. Our last refrigerator, a kenmore, lasted 26 years with no problems.

Seven year old expensive Amana refrigerator had extended service for five years now. Two calls in five years - total expense of $500. Service call a few weeks ago resulted in tech telling us no problem with freezer/fridge even though we experienced both were not cold. August 8, appliance not working at all, water all over the kitchen and everything in the freezer ruined. Call for appointment - because this is an emergency they will send someone out August 21. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have wasted $500 plus the expense of the appliance. Never will I do that again and would not recommend either the appliance and for sure no recommendation on the warranty. The customer service rep was very nice, ineffective but pleasant.

Read the small print of warranty exclusions. Who would think a rusting stainless steel finish is not covered on a stainless steel appliance? Our $1200+ Amana AFD2535FES 12 refrigerator started showing signs of rust about two years after we purchased it. Research shows that this can be a problem if inferior stainless steel is used. Customer Service said to try to clean with warm soapy water and a t-shirt. If that didnt work we had to call a service agent at our expense. I have other stainless steel appliances (GE) that do not have any rust and they are much older, in the same room and I clean them the same way. It is ironic because I thought GE was a cheaper made product so intentionally purchased an AMANA thinking it was better quality.

Purchased a stand up freezer in fall of 2019, manufactured date on back is June 2019! 4 months after the 1 year warranty date has passed, Ive already replaced the heater coil at a cost of 200.00. For the past 6 months Ive had to empty and defrost the coils at least 5 times! After replacing the coil (which was checked for continuity and failed), I still have issues! So who knows how many other parts are needed to fix the issue. Amana has basically said, Too bad, youre on your own, after condescendingly explaining how to care for my freezer!! Its only the second freezer Ive ever owned, the last one having served me well for more than 15 years, but that wasnt a garbage Amana product!!

I purchased my refrigerator 4 years ago. Today, (bottom) freezer quit. I called the original store for info; 4 years old so it’s out of warranty. I called another service company - more than the first. I sought Amana online and called toll free. They confirmed there is nothing they can do due to past 1 year warranty. I called my friend who bought the same fridge; she had the same problem and invested much money into fridge, which never worked correctly. I then found many customers online having the same problem at 4 years; compressor quits! This should not be with a new fridge. I called the Amana toll free number back and asked to speak to a manager. I spoke with Sherri, ID# **. After putting me on hold, she advised she would sell me an extended warranty for $392.39 to fix the freezer! This should not be; I told her I should pursue a class action suit as many customers have had the same complaint.

Our Kenmore Elite (made by Whirlpool) upright freezer died after 5 years. To me thats a short lifespan. We purchased a new Amana upright freezer (also made by Whirlpool) to replace it February 18, 2018 and today (June 11, 2018) now refuses to freeze anything. It runs constantly but will not freeze even though its set to deep freeze. Called for a repair which is coming tomorrow so Ill see how this plays out. Probably a nightmare. In addition and while dealing with the freezer our Whirlpool refrigerator has now also died at 9 years. Again doesnt this seem a bit short? The Consumer Reports and others say 10 to 15 years is normal... so honestly is Whirlpool now building junk?Updated on 07/12/2018: I wrote an initial review on June 11 about my experience with Whirlpool. This is an update: I just want you to know how completely disenchanted I am with Whirlpool products. We purchased a Kenmore Elite freezer (made by Whirlpool) approx. 5 years ago and it died prematurely last February. Then in February we replaced it with an Amana freezer (also made by Whirlpool) and it too has died now after 4 months. THE REPAIRMAN CAME TODAY AND HE CANT FIX IT. In addition our Kenmore Elite refrigerator (made by Whirlpool) has also died prematurely two days ago and it also can’t be fixed. So right now we have no freezer and no fridge and it’s going to take days to figure out what the next move is... replace??? So who pays for all the food product we have lost?? I’m absolutely disgusted with Whirlpool products. In communicating with Whirlpool their attitude was lack-lustre. It goes through a process that takes days to complete and weeks to get a replacement if they even agree to do that. In the meantime we have lost hundreds of dollars in food and no-one cares. Never again will I buy Whirlpool.

I purchased this fridge 9/2010, and the compressor is already shot. I see from other complaints that compressors have been a problem, but Amana Whirlpool has done nothing to help out customers (unless they agreed to the extortion of the extended warranty). I guess Amana Whirlpool is only for people who can afford to buy major appliances every year or pay huge repair bills as soon as the product is out of warranty, or pay for protection (does this remind anyone else of bribing cops to do their job?). My previous fridge was an Amana. my next will not be.Ive lost work time, food, and money. Its odd when the automated recording asks if youve had the product for longer than 12 months, and then asks if you purchased the extended warrant. And you said yes to the first and no to the second, why dont they just disconnect you? They wont do a thing to stand behind their products, even when they know that a less-than-two-year-old fridge should not need a new compressor. They have no pride in their product (I see why now), and they surely have no concern with customer service or satisfaction.

Bought an Amana Refrigerator AFI2359ERM00 Dec 2015 and it crapped out 4 months after the 1 year warranty expired. Imagine that. Glad I bought the extended warranty through Home Depot! LoL since April 2017 my fridge has quit working 5 times and totally defrosted and ruined 5 fridge full of food. Freds Appliance has been out 5 times to try to fix it and cant. It seems to break down every 3 weeks or so. Then after 2-3 days of clicking and buzzing it starts cooling again. Well the quickest they can get out is 4 days and by then its up and running and the tech says well I pushed a few buttons and cant find anything wrong. Amana/Whirlpool has washed their hands of it because of the extended warranty I bought through HD. HD wont replace it because they claim the SAME part has to be replaced 3 times before it is considered a lemon. Been in limbo since April and its so frustrating.Dont waste your money on Amana. Poor quality! Even worse customer service. Same with HD. Very robotic in their responses. They are all sorry Im having an issue, but wont take responsibility. Plus since the unit seems to break down when Im not at home and all of the ice from the hopper melts and runs down the front of the fridge all over the floor. Now it has ruined my hardwood floor all around the unit. What a POS.

Beware the Amana company. I dont like to give bad reviews to companies but the time has come. Our church bought a new side by side Amana refrigerator/freezer in August. It worked until the middle of December and then it started warming up. It was turned up to the coldest settings and still continued to not do its job. Frozen foods are cold but not frozen. January 3rd I called Amana and a technician came out on the 14th. He said, It needs fixed but I dont have to tools to do it.About 10 days later another tech came out and said, It needs a new part but I dont have one with me. The next week he came and replaced the part but it still didnt work. I called Amana again and told them since its still under warranty, we want a new appliance. I was told they dont do that unless a technician comes 2 times and he has to say it doesnt work. We had 3 visits. She said she would send out their top technician because he would know what is going on. Apparently the others didnt. He was supposed to come on Thursday but they called and canceled because they had scheduled the wrong technician. Rescheduled for today, Monday February 25 but cancelled because their truck broke down. We are finding it very inconvenient to have an appliance that hasnt worked for over 2 months, wouldnt you? Now scheduled for Friday. We will see. The only help I got was when I went to the manager of Home Depot about it and he got after them about it but still far from resolved. I imagine that Amana has some good appliances and we got a lemon. The appliances are questionable but the company is terrible to deal with.

We bought and set up the Amana ART316TFDW in our house in October 2017. It came with a one year limited parts warranty and no option for a 3 year extended warranty. In August 2019, less than two years after purchase, the refrigerator repairman said it was leaking Freon and would be expensive to fix. He recommended buying a new fridge. Thats about the time we lost our cool too.

On November 23, 2011, my 2007 Amana French door, bottom freezer refrigerator model # AFI2538AES began making a loud popping noise, touch pad panel lights flashing, and cooling stopped. The popping noise was from the ice maker flap opening and closing. The HV board needs replaced, Whirlpool Manufacturer #12920710. I contacted Amana to order the part. The service rep said it is on backorder until February because they have been pulled from the shelf and are being revamped. When I asked if the part would be covered by Amana, since a part needing revamped was essentially defective, I was told no. Requested to speak with supervisor, who states she didnt know where I had heard that the part is being revamped but occasionally, they have difficulty finding manufacturers to produce parts and was certain this was the circumstance. I was told there were no other complaints like mine documented. Amazingly, however, the supervisor was able to locate the backordered part, which the service rep, the parts department and two independent repair shops were unable to find. I expressed my concern that the part found, only three in stock, may be leftover from the stock requiring revamping, rather from the previous manufacturer and not of the same quality of the part which may be produced and available in February. I suggested they reimburse for the part. They declined. I suggested they reimburse should the replacement part need replaced. They declined. I thought of more suggestions but didnt feel they were appropriate to express. Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana should recall the bottom freezer refrigerators with the HV board #12920710 due to defective or faulty part or incompatibility with these refrigerator models.

I purchased an Amana refrigerator about 2 1/2 years ago. Right after the 1 year warranty ran out, I started having problems. A strong nasty burning chemical smell was coming from the appliance and making me and everything in the house stink. Plus, the smell was making me sick, irritating my nose and eyes. The repairman replaced the relay on the compressor and told me that would take care of the problem. Well, 1 year later, we are experiencing the very same problem. The smell is so bad, I am going to have to unplug the appliance and store all the food at a friends until the repairman can get here next week. It is getting into my hair and clothes, so that I smell it all day when I am at work. I will never purchase an Amana appliance again.

I have been a loyal Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchen Aid customer for close to 50 years now. My 7 year old French Door Amana Refrigerator still works fine, but has a product defect, the heater. Ice forms on the bottom of the Freezer compartment, and if not removed every 3 weeks (manually defrost) it will melt and run onto the floor. I had it repaired 1½ years ago for $503. Less than 8 months later the problem reappeared. There is a class action lawsuit for this well known issue. But Amana refuses to act. I called Amana and they told me they would gladly send a repair person out to look at the issue - AT MY EXPENSE!!!! Thats all they will do. Yesterday I bought my first Non-Whirlpool appliance, a GE refrigerator. I will never buy Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag or Kitchen Aid again - NEVER!!!

I no longer consider Amana a trusted brand and will not purchase any Amana appliances going forward. Customers beware!! I find it especially appalling that the yellowing of course occurs outside of any warranty period = Amana is all about profit at the expense of the customer... short sighted, penny-wise and pound-foolish for such an established brand. I purchased an Amana Refrigerator Model; #ASS2222FEQ with Serial#1156842NA on 3/25/2008. On 7/13/2009, second incident of freezer not working in a refrigerator not yet 1-1/2 years old. I called 877-342-1446. Frantic that I was going to lose a freezer of food, I was advised by Kim that a repairman would arrive at 7/15 between 8am-12n. I called 800-628-5782, which was another number I had for Amana and spoke with Jamila. After explaining the problem, Jamila advised me that there was no service call request in the computer, so she initiated and advised that a repairman would be here on Wednesday, 7/15/09. I did tell Jamila that a second freezer failure in less than a year is totally unacceptable.7/15/09, a repairman arrived right around 8am, discovered some problem with paperwork; I called 877-342-1446 and spoke with Mark, who was able to advise me that I had called the manufacturer and the extended warranty numbers advised are separate and do not have shared computer programs. Mark said that he could take care of it, gave me a confirmation number to the repairman and was going to Fax sheets to the local office. On 7/16/2009, the local repair business called me to say that Maytag Dependability Plus was refusing to pay the bill because they authorized another company for the repair and that company called after the first repairman had left. Amana Dependability Plus will not change the work order from A&E Factory Service (who did not come or perform any service) to Convenient Appliance Service, who came and rendered service. Jim, at the 877-3542-1446, would not give me the names of any supervisor nor would he transfer me to anyone else. He said no one there has any more authority than he had. I then called the 800-628-5782 and asked for the name of the president of company. Lisa did not know the name of the Amana president, and said all she could do was to transfer me to Dependability Plus, because I have an extended warranty, endless, repetitive cycle. I advised all parties that I had not realized I was speaking with two different departments, but since the service was Ok’d, I do not understand the big deal to cancel the work order to A&E Factory Service and transfer it to Convenient Appliance Service. Oh no, this can’t possibly be done! Not only do I apparently have a faulty piece of equipment, this is a company dedicated to providing customer frustration. This could have been so easily solved, but agents have dug their heels in, and will be damned if they will help the customer. This is the very last Whirlpool/Amana product I will purchase. Remember, this is the second time the freezer stopped freezing in less than 1-1/2years. Customer service is a joke and we wonder why jobs go overseas? I am stuck with a $97 bill, my freezer problem is still unresolved and I have wasted an entire day. My B/P is soaring. I regret ever purchasing an Amana product and certainly an extended warranty.

Our 7 year old Amana Bottom mount fridge started making the sound of death-- the start overload /relay clicking every 3 minutes and the compressor not running. I tried replacing the start overload/relay just in case that would fix it. It did for a week and now the fridge is dead. Testing the compressor leads shows the compressor is dead. Replacement cost of a compressor here is $500 parts plus $350 labor. I am told by service technicians that the compressors in not just Amana but most all current energy efficient fridges are conking out on average between year 7 and 10. So those of you wanting to save money and save the planet should rethink scrapping your older fridge to be green and save energy because you are going to end up paying less in electricity costs but lots more in financing costs on $1,000 fridges that last 7-10 years. Plus you will be filling up the pockets of appliance salespeople with your money while filling up the scrap yards with all those dead but energy efficient fridges. Maybe they can recycle the metal into toys to sell offshore?I saved an estimated $50 a year in electricity by using a new energy efficient fridge. I paid $1,000 in 2004 buying the first fridge and now 7 years later, I pay another $1,000 for fridge #2. Repeat as required every 7 to 10 years. Fortunately, I was home when the fridge conked out so I could move, beginning to thaw, frozen food to my 1960 vintage chest freezer which continues to hum along. Just think what fun it would have been if the fridge conked out while I was away on a 2 week holiday? Conclusion, bend over and take it as no current manufacturer makes a fridge that lasts like the old ones did.

Finally I just got fed up with it and stuck it in the garage. My husband put it back on again. it was on for maybe 6 months, then came right off in his hands again. I purchased an Amana refrigerator 3 years ago and so soon the compressor went out. I had a 4-year warrant from Home Depot. Some guy, he was not with Home Depot but from an appliance repair store, they hired came out and he was very rude. I would ask him a question about the freon and he would shrug his shoulders. I think this was because he is white and Im Spanish. Lately, since the apartments next door have been empty for a year, roaches have come to my home from there. Because I keep up on roach control, we did not have them before. He found two roaches on the floor and put down we were infested, which we are not. Now Home Depot says they will not fix it. But another repair person says that’s absurd. Even if you have them roaches, they can not get in the compressor.I blame Amana for making cheap refrigerators. Did you know they put cardboard to cover the back of the refrigerator? And I blame Home Depot for not delivering what they agreed. We are going to have to put another tent over our house to get rid of the roaches.

On Sept 26, 2011, when the fridge part of my Amana Refrigerator, Model # ABL192ZFES, Serial # 10379497JX, was not cooling properly, I phoned Trail Appliance where I purchased the fridge. They gave me the number of W3 solutions, a contract service company at 1-866-913-1350, and I was given the Extended Warranty Order # G09264, claim # 95199095. The freezer was working fine at this time. A week later, a technician came and told me he needed to order parts to correct the problem. On Nov 7, 2011, a technician came and told me that he would replace the compressor and relay and that the fridge would work fine for many years to come. On Nov 8, 2011, I awoke to find my fridge and freezer not working at all and all the food in the freezer melted. I phoned the technician all day and left messages, on his answering machine, but there was no reply. On Nov 9, 2011 at 10am, I phoned W3 solutions at 1-866-913-1350 and let them know what was happening. The representative then issued a new work order and told me it would be10 days before anyone got back to me. I lost around $200 worth of food and phoned Trail Appliance to complain and try to recover the cost of the food I lost. They told me they could not cover the food cost and I should contact W3 Solutions. I am now without a fridge and not scheduled for an appointment with a technician until Nov 16, 2011.I stayed home all day on Tuesday Nov 15, 2011 but there was no phone call. On Wednesday Nov 16, 2011, at 11 am, I received a phone call from the technician. He told me he had been on a vacation to Hawaii for a week and had received a dispatch for service on my fridge the day before. He told me that the brand new compressor that he had installed on Nov 7, had completely seized up, and he would have to order a new one. I asked him how long that would take and he replied a few daysI am living on canned food at the moment, being without a working fridge or freezer. I made this clear to the technician and he said that this was the best he could do. Its not good enough! It is now 2 months since I initiated the service call and have struggled without a working fridge. There seems to be no accountability for the technicians doing the work, since the technician who installed the compressor and relay would not return my calls. If there is a problem after a technician leaves, the only option is to phone W3 Solutions to book another appointment with a technician to start the process all over again. Then if a technician has to order parts, you wait for the parts to come by snail mail to the technician and service can take months. It would seem that they are trying hard to wear the customer down so as to purchase a new appliance, and skip the service calls. This is ridiculous and I am not happy with Trail Appliance, Whirlpool or W3 Solutions who do contract service for Whirlpool. Its unacceptable!

I purchased Amana fridge (model AFD2535DEQ) on 12-4-2008. Excellent looks, cooling, and energy conservation. Loved the bottom freezer. On December 2011, the fridge’s cooling lost efficiency. The repair tech says top compressor is not working. The cost to repair is half the cost of the fridge. To date the top fridge is keeping at 39 degrees while set on coldest setting. Freezer works fine. For the forty years of my marriage I have purchased and used Maytag and Amana products. Never again! I purchased the Amana 25.1 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator in Stainless Steel, Model# ASD2522WRS from Home Depot 15 months ago, in September 2010. Two weeks ago, all my food in my fridge spoiled. I noticed while I was pouring milk in my sons cup, something told me to taste it because it didnt smell fresh even though it had over three weeks until expiration. It tasted like sour cream. I am so glad my child didnt drink that. I almost threw up. Also, I had four-day old ice tray in my freezer that was still liquid, my ice cream softened and all my sons popsicles crumbled to my touch. I had to throw away majority of our food and weve been eating carry outs since. I contacted Amana and they told me the warranty was only good for 12 months. They scheduled for a technician to come to my house for repairs. I was suppose to be priority since I was stuck at home without food. I waited all day for technicians to come and/or call. I even tried to call and couldnt get through since their lines were busy. I left a message and received a return call the next day. Amana gave them the wrong phone number. I wasnt given a quote so I asked the technicians directly for a estimate and they said they were going to charge me $129 just to come to my house + charges. Say what now? That is ridiculous.

We bought an Amana atb2136arw refrigerator in 2006. This is a very basic style top freezer model. In 2011, we ran into the first problem with the food section not maintaining a good temperature. The compressor fan had to be replaced. That repair cost $175.00. Less than two years later, its same problem: The freezer seemed to be okay but temps in the food section couldnt get much below 50 degrees. But this time, the Amana was declared dead by our repair technician. He determined that half the coils in the refrigeration assembly were not working - at all. Basically, the only way to fix it would be to replace the entire refrigeration coil assembly - something that cant practically be done once this model leaves the factory. In other words, it isnt even repairable. When you add up the initial price paid, plus the cost of one repair, this POS appliance cost us $200.00+ per year of use. Needless to say, the replacement refrigerator we purchased was not manufactured by Amana.

How disgusting is this to pay that much for an appliance and have it work for approximately 18 months, and then have the manufacturer want additional money it repair this lemon. I purchased a brand new stainless steal Amana refrigerator 6 months ago for 1200. The day it arrived I had issues. The doors do not line up. One door is 2 inches below the other. I called Amana and they told me this was due to a crooked house! The refrigerator sits perfectly level. Within hours we realized that the ice machine had design flaws. Water and ice cubes fail to land in the cup. Ice goes all over the floor. We have resorted to opening the freezer door and scooping ice out.About two weeks in to owning the refrigerator both of the sliding fruit and vegetation drawers were cracked. They are made of very brittle plastic. The drawers do not have castor wheels or a slide system. They just sit plastic on plastic. This causes major friction and difficulty shutting the drawers leading to them breaking. Amana offered to ship new ones but did not offer a fix. The refrigerator in the show room had extra freezer shelves and a meat cheese drawer. Mine came without them and I was told these are add on by Amana customer support. I will never again purchase an Amana product. Very dodgy craftsmanship.

Ive recently replaced it for the fourth or fifth time, at a cost of approximately $70. a clip. It just broke again six months since I last replaced it! Im wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues with their Amana refrigerators. Leonard **.

We have an Amana refrigerator model ARB2557CSR. We have had it for 8 years. We have had a few repairs over the years, but last night took the wind out of all of us that witnessed the door fall off the hinge and break the contents that were on the door. If anyones foot would have been in the area, it would had sliced it off or crushed terribly. The door was opened and for unknown reason, dropped off onto our slate floor. If our grandson would have been near, he could have been crushed. I checked the hinges and sprockets, and it still didnt make sense. After reading other remarks about doors in consumer reviews, I am one to be added to the list. This door was one large door, not double door. It was heavy. Please be aware of this defect. I am looking at other models, yet similar malfunctions have occurred that reviews have stated. Really a frightening experience. We will be looking at other models, yet not really confident about any. Hope this helps.

Amana Refrigerator, Not Good After 6 Years: We purchased an Amana bottom freezer refrigerator, model#ABB2227DES, serial#10253964EP at Sears approximately 6 years ago. We have had numerous issues with the refrigerator starting just after the 12-month warranty ran out. At one point, I paid $300 for an extended warranty. I had to have more repairs on it and was told by several technicians that the compressor would be going and it won’t be worth paying for the repair (roughly 50% of the $1300 that we paid for the fridge). At this point, including the purchase and repairs of the refrigerator, we are over the $2000 mark. Again, the fridge just died and we have been told that the compressor is gone and it would not be worth it to fix unless Whirlpool agrees to pay the repairs. I would like Whirlpool to pay for the repairs of this refrigerator or provide a comparable refrigerator, or I will contact my own attorney in regard to this.

Sometimes the fridge section freezes foods, sometimes it is not cool enough. Odors tend to stay in the fridge and linger indefinitely. Parts of the veggie drawers have broken off over time. I do love that it is a side by side, and will buy another like it. I wont buy an Amana again.

We bought an Amana Refrigerator in May 2005. It is now 6 1/2 years old and began making noises recently It died last night and the repair will be about $800 or more. This fridge was working fine until recently. Over the past two years my parents and my wifes parents both bought this same model as they liked ours. Hopefully theirs wont die as well. We called a repairman who said that, that year (2005), there were problems with the compressors. From reading other complaints it seems that it is not limited to that year. From researching different refrigerators last night, it appears that the Amana, Maytag and Whirlpool are all exactly the same refrigerator with just a different nameplate on them. Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006 and Maytag had already bought Amana prior to that. So much for Amish people in Iowa making a decent appliance. We are disappointed in Amana. We had my grandmothers refrigerator when I was in high school. It must have been 35 years old and ran fine.

I had no idea that the Amana side-by-side 25 cf fridge I bought in 1993 would last this long. Its now 20 yrs old and still going strong. The only problems I had were with the ice maker, which I had repaired a couple of times years ago. But when I moved the fridge to do floor work and replaced it, I opted not to connect the ice maker back up. All ice makers break down a lot, it seems. So I use the ice bin for food storage, and I use old fashioned ice trays with a specially-shaped bucket for ice. The temp control on my fridge seems to be just fine, after all these years. I do vacuum the front grill at the bottom occasionally and underneath to the extent I can. But Im looking for a new fridge because I think this one will probably go soon, and I dont want to have to buy a new one in an emergency situation. I dont know if Amanas are still made the same way, or if the quality has gone down, or even if I just lucked out with my fridge. But the layout of the fridge is awesome, the special compartment to keep milk extra cool, the freezer space, the quietness (w/o the ice maker its been pretty quiet, but the ice maker was pretty loud). If I could find an exact replica of the one I have, Id buy it in a heartbeat.

We bought our Amana side by side in 1980 when we moved to our new house. I believe it is a 24.5 cubic feet. Durability...it is still working excellently and thats a sign of quality. Thats 30 years and still kicking. We never had any repair on it nor have any problem with the cooling system. The only one that gave up was the drinking water line after 15 years of drinking service to my family. Service that I have done was annually clean and vacuum the accumulated dust at the bottom of the refrigerator including clean the drain pan. Thats it. If I need to replace this old workhorse in my kitchen Ill purchase another Amana refrigerator. I shared our experience with our friends around and some of them bought this brand.

This isnt a NEW model fridge. I purchased it back in 1991. Ive never had to repair it. It just keeps on running! Once, my daughter didnt close the door all the way, so the fridge ran constantly all night long and had quit running by the following morning. I unplugged it and let the motor cool down. When I restarted it, it ran like before and has been running since. It still looks good, not new, but presentable. Im holding off replacing it since Ive heard the newer fridges arent made to last. Its not as energy efficient as a new model, but, last I checked, its not an energy hog either.

Warning. This fridge stopped working after 2.5 years with no warranty after 1 year and thrown out. Before this past weekend, I would have rated this appliance high. We bought this fridge for my mother-in-law who is in her mid 90s. It was the perfect size and worked well without any issues whatsoever....until it just stopped working without notice of any kind suggesting there was a problem. We called for warranty and was directed to Whirlpool for service. Apparently model # ART318FFDW wears numerous different brands including Amana, Maytag, Kenmore, IKEA and more. They advised the appliance only came with a 1-year warranty. So we called an independent service guy to service it only to be told that this is a common problem with this model and it would cost over $700 to repair it (they retail in Canada between $7-800 new), advising it was not worth repairing because there was a risk of it occurring again. He provided a report (see photo for screen shot) and suggested we call the manufacturer back as they will be aware of this problem and there may even be a recall. We did just that and they denied any knowledge of problems with this model and there were no recalls issued. And because we did not buy the additional warranty, there was no recourse. I could appreciate having to pay to fix our fridge, since there was no additional warranty, but I was certainly not expecting a 2.5 year old fridge to be unfixable. That the parts would cost as much as replacing the fridge is unacceptable. To make matters worse, Whirlpool offered us an apology with a loyalty REBATE of 15% if we purchased a replacement of any model within the Whirlpool brands, even off a discounted price. Though we were not going to purchase the same model, we thought this was at least some form of recourse and reluctantly purchased another fridge. When I filed for the claim with the code they emailed me, the code was rejected saying Code was already redeemed. I had just got the code a day earlier as this was an emergency replacement purchase, and the code was not working. I reached out to Whirlpool by replying to their email which was a no response email address. I then sent a message through their contact form and many days later still no response. If I dont receive one by the end of the week Im going through the pain of returning it and replacing it with a different brand.Long story short, I dont recommend this model nor do I recommend the Whirlpool brand because of the poor response to a lemon of a purchase.

???? Amana Whirlpool Whirlpool Customer Care Center. The whole 4 MONTH experience to have our fridge replaced has been a joke. We have had 4 service technicians come out in order to decide we need the whole refrigerator replaced. Then it couldnt be shipped out for a whole month. Now it was supposed to be delivered today June 5th 2020 between 1:30-5:30pm. Only to be told that J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. Couldnt deliver it when they scheduled to because the driver ran out of hours, not blaming the driver. I blame the company for putting too many on the load so it couldnt be delivered on a 3 day ahead scheduled appointment. It absolutely should not take 4 freaking months to get a refrigerator much less during COVID-19 putting my family in more Danger to have to go to the store more for our needs for a family of 6. Not to mention both my husband and daugthers medications have to be kept cold. THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY BEEN THE WORST EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD WITH A WARRANTY ISSUE. I personally expected better from every company list because we have had issues with each department leading up to not have a working refrigerator for 4 months.. Only buy these products if you expect to never have to deal with horrible customer service and overall horrible experience. #whirlpoolsucks #whirlpoolcustomerservicesucks #amanasucks #fedup #Corona_Virus #medicalneeds

Amana only guarantees their product for 12 months. I found most mfrs also have reduced their warranties to 12 months, however I have several Frigidaire refrigerators that have lasted many years. The Frigidaire in my home is 17 years old with no problems. I will not buy from Menards ever again nor will I buy anything Amana. Go Frigidaire.

I bought an Amana fridge with our tax money just over a year ago. Its was a hard decision to spend over $1,000 on a fridge, but here we are just over a year later and the crisper drawer has crumbled and disintegrated on the slider edge. Bad design and bad choice of materials. Amana, of course, says the drawer is not covered under any warranty. They want well over $100 for a new drawer. That’s 10% of the original price. To hell with Amana. I won’t make that mistake again. Pass the word: Don’t buy Amana! I’m stacking fruit/veggies on top of the bottom drawer for now. I’m searching the web in vain to find a cheaper drawer. I’m really, really pissed off!

We purchased a basic model Amana refrigerator A9RXNMFWB01 in June 2010, delivered in July 2010. The refrigerator was making a lot of noise the past few months. We didnt realize the fan was not working properly. When the fan quit, the food was still frozen in the top freezer. But the refrigerator compartment would not go below 50 degrees. I called for the Amana technician. A & E couldnt make it over until the following week, so we called a local repairman. $182 later, new fan, the refrigerator is fixed. Its only 15 months old! Our old Amana is still running since 1997. We have never had troubles with a refrigerator in our 35 years of buying appliances. Now I see on reviews of compressors going bad. Appliances are not made well and we will be lucky to get 8 years out of this Amana with cheap parts. There go our landfills. What can we buy that wont cost hundreds to fix? We have never had to buy extended warranty. This is a money maker for Amana (Maytag, Whirlpool). It’s a lesson learned. I’m very dissatisfied. I feel we deserve to be compensated for this breakdown, especially since it acted up during the 1st year of warranty. We shall see if Amana can make it right.

We had our Amana fridge freezer fitted in January 2009. After 6 years and 6 months this appliance has broken down and is unrepairable. We paid £3,800.00 for the fridge, and would have expected at least 10 years service from it, as we have had 10/12 years service from fridges that we have paid a fraction of this cost for. We have contacted Whirlpool, who manufactured the fridge, and have had a very unsatisfactory response so far. We are still fighting our case, and we are prepared to take this all the way, to make sure that no-one else buys an Amana product. If we had been advised that the expected lifespan of this appliance was so short and would be unrepairable, we would never have bought it.

I ordered and received the Amana Model AZF33X20DW03 Upright freezer in March 2020 and received it in toward the end of May 2020. The freezer cost $913.50 and lasted one year and quit freezing. There was just over $400.00 worth of food destroyed. Rona Hardware said they will not cover the freezer as it is just off warranty. I purchased an Amana refrigerator with bottom freezer about 4 years ago. Recently noticed water leaking from under the freezer onto the laminate floor. Upon further investigation noticed ice build up on the floor of the freezer. The lower basket would scrape on the ice as the door basket was pulled out. Checked out the problem on the internet and noticed a number of similar complaints. At that point assumed maybe there was a recall for a certain part causing the problem. Called the store where I purchased the appliance and a repairman was out within a day. He was knowledgeable and knew what the problem was. It appears to be fairly common. The replacement part has been fixed to remedy the problem. Because this is what I was told, I inquired about a possible recall. I was told that the part had been modified since I purchased my refrigerator. If the part has been changed or modified then it seems Amana is aware of the problem. The part is a drain tube. The cost to me including labor was almost $200.00. I felt that Amana should cover the cost as there are a number of complaints about this issue. The serviceman suggested I call Amana so I did. Even though the representatives were nice and professional they offered no resolution or satisfaction to my complaint. I spoke with a supervisor too. I fully explained my reason for calling and my dissatisfaction with Amana but really felt that they could care less. I stated that they would lose me as a customer if they could not stand behind their product especially knowing this was not a new problem. I guess customer satisfaction doesnt count for much today. Too bad but that is the last Amana product I will buy.

I thought Id done adequate research through Consumer Reports, etc. My Amana French door refrigerator model # AFD2535FES worked fine for the first year. Then, the food compartment wasnt as cold as it should be and food began to spoil, although the food in the freezer drawer was rock solid and snow started forming on the inside. Id purchased an extended warranty, so I thought having it repaired would be a non-issue. The repairman said it was due to too much food in the freezer, so air couldnt circulate into the food compartment. He said to defrost the freezer, which I did. It seemed to work OK for two weeks and the same thing happened again--all the food spoiled again, even with minimal food in the freezer. The second repairman came out, this time he said it needed a new heating element. I waited another week for the part to arrive (more time off work) and then he returned and replaced it. Two weeks later, the same problem happened. Spoiled food again, and time off work. I am expecting the repairman later today. This fancy stainless steel behemoth is a lemon and needs to be recalled. The temp inside is 65F and makes storing food impossible. It has been a huge expense and a great inconvenience. I will never buy another Amana appliance and I will advise everyone I know to boycott their products.
