My Reliance 606 began having pilot shut-off problems after 4 years. I vacuumed out the heater and storage closet but it kept on shutting down. Eventually, I removed the entire 3 tube and 1 wire burner assembly (but not the thermostat) and cleaned out all of the lines. It worked for a few months, but then, problems started again this week. I tried to redo what I did the last time but found that the main small gas line no longer had a pinhole, so I guess the hole got dangerously bigger. Fortunately, the thermostat assembly did its job and kept shutting down when the flow of gas increased. It appears that these heaters are all breaking down about every 3 or 4 years.I've been in touch with my dealer since the original problems began and he's been great. He told me to contact him and he'll replace the heater for free during the 6 year warranty period. I just have to provide him with a copy of the receipt and the model sticker off of the water heater. I don't even have to bring in the old heater. I'll be doing that today! I'd rather replace the heater while I can rather than buy the replacement assembly for 45 bucks.

It is leaking from the bottom of the tank. This has flooded my basement and has cost me thousands of dollars in repairs and many lost items due to water damage. This heater is just over 2 years old. I spoke with a representative that gave me an authorization number, so I could have it shipped to my home. This is not the first time that your product has failed causing me thousands of dollars in 2012 also. It was professionally installed and I would just like to have the product replaced. My authorization number is **. THEY REFUSED THE WARRANTY ON THE HOT WATER HEATER, AND THEY ARE ONE OF, IF NOT THE WORST COMPANY THAT I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. WARNING WARNING WARNING!!! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY!!! WARNING.

Purchased my Whirlpool gas hot water heater. After 1 1/2 yrs, the blinking light shut off, called tech at Whirlpool, made me move hot water heater to outside. I moved it outside and when called back, I was then told to send 4 photos to prove that I moved it, in which I did that. He told me that still was not right... and still he would not help with "reset'. I live in my parents old home w/ water heater in bathroom for 50 yrs. No problem... it was vented thru ceiling to attic. Now it is outside, unlit, in a steel hub (as directed) and still not ok...I have no hot water and have not for 4 weeks now... Whirlpool sucks... never buy their hot water heaters. Had to pay a serviceman $750 to move heater, run cold/hot water lines and gas line and it still does not work... with NO HELP from Whirlpool. Now I am in process of buying an electric hot water heater and have to pay an electrician to run a 220... I am on fixed income and this stinks... biggest regret... WHIRLPOOL.

We purchased a 50 gallon water heater that claimed to come with a 6-year warranty on parts. It's been a little over two years that we owned the product, and we noticed rust on the bottom. We checked to make sure if water or even moisture is visible from the outside - nothing. The problem is obviously coming from the inside. Since we have warranty, we called them and got nowhere! We were told that it is just cosmetic. They refused to send out a technician to take a look at it. We even emailed them pictures (see pictures) and still nothing, no service. Their warranty is a joke. We will never by any Whirlpool product ever again. Don't believe the sticker that claims you are covered for a certain amount of time. When it comes down to it, they will not do anything for you.

My water heater failed and after contacting Rheem tech support they agreed that the unit needed needed to be replaced. No one in my region [including Rheem] had any replacements so Rheem told me to purchase one from Home Depot, which I did. After months of emails, submitting numerous copies of documents and hours of phone calls I received a check for 1/2 of the replacement unit value. Rheem informed me that the unit wasn't worth what I paid for it. My cost would have been the same from Rheem, Home Depot or a Rheem authorized dealer. Rheem's lifetime warranty is a lie. It's a great water heater, but you would be better served buying a decent quality unit from another manufacturer. If I had known that they weren't going to honor the warranty I would've bought a different brand.

Hello. I have a A. O. Smith 50 Gal Gas Water Heater. I personally installed it in 1990. The only thing that I had to do is replace the thermocouple once. It has never leaked or had any other problems. This is probably unheard of but true. 27 years and still no problems. I am going to replace it soon only because of its age. True story. I don't know if the new A.O. Smith Water Heaters are as good as the one I have, but I will buy another of the same.

Purchased a new Whirlpool Energy Smart 50 gallon water heater from Lowe's to replace our existing old one that had gone bad. Never again!! Had it professionally installed by one of Lowe's installers. I have no problem with the installer.... the water heater was a piece of junk. From the first day we had sporadic hot water and to get that you had to have a hot water tap turned on full force. If you turned the tap to a lesser flow you got cold water. Couldn't get a hot shower at all. Contacted Whirlpool customer service 4 times by phone and 3 times by email. Horrible !!!! If I had read all the reviews ahead of time I would never have purchased a Whirlpool water heater. Each time contacting their customer service I was informed I had a plumbing problem... probably a cold water line was feeding into my hot water line??? Really??? After living in this house for 20 years all of a sudden I have a cold water line magically connect itself into my main hot water feed? I even set the temperature up as much as it would go. Could easily hold my hand under the hot water without getting burned. Most of their phone reps sounded like they were reading from a check list sheet and no desire to actually listen to what I was telling them. One even sent me a PDF file via email that had nothing to do with the problem I was describing to them. I finally told them after two weeks of this that I couldn't live with this situation and they said "Well our technicians are 38 miles from you and we won't send one that far to check it". Asking what I could do they said I'd have to hire someone (they weren't able to tell me if I should hire a plumber or electrician) and I'd have to pay for it and they would reimburse me. Sensing that this might be a fruitless task I resorted to calling the Lowe's store where I purchased it and asked their advice. They offered to send out the original installer to check it out and work with Whirlpool over the phone. Like I said, I have no complaints with the installer, he was fast and professional. I stood there while their "technician/customer service" had him go through a few tests on the unit. All of that proved nothing except in their minds that nothing was wrong with their unit. He got off the phone and told me "They refuse to accept any responsibility for the product being bad". I asked him what was I supposed to do. He got on the phone with the manager of the Lowe's store and they agreed to swap it out at no charge to me. I of course was very happy but told them after all of this I didn't want another Energy Smart type water heater and that I didn't trust the electronics at all. He agreed to swap it out for a "regular" type and give me a credit for any difference in cost. Had this all done in one day and am very pleased with Lowe's commitment to customer service. The new heater (still a Whirlpool sad to say) appears to be working fine just like my old one did. So much for it being a problem with my plumbing. After reading all the complaints about Whirlpool water heaters, I guess I'm not looking forward to much of a life expectancy with this one and I'm certainly not even going to attempt to call Whirlpool customer service if I do. This whole thing cost me $700 and as far as I'm concerned I'll flush $700 down the toilet before buying another Whirlpool product. I still would love to know how any person with half a brain could tell me I had a plumbing problem when all that was done was removal of an old water heater and replaced with a new one. That's two pipes people...cold water in, hot water out. I see that there was some type of class action lawsuit filed against Whirlpool. Maybe they need another one filed or forbidden to sell water heaters ever again.

I paid top dollar for the best 50 gal. water heater they sold. 1 year later and the pilot light goes out everyday. I called about the 6 year warranty. What a joke. They will replaced the part for free BUT I have to hire an Authorized plumber that charges $300.00 per hour! Wish I had checked the reviews first. I will never buy their products ever again. Should have gone to Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Water heater quit working (2 years old). Call customer service - told me that I needed to find out the color of the wiring connector inside the control panel. Drive home, take it apart and determine that it is white. Call back. Told replacement part would ship and arrive tomorrow. Great. They call me to say that the water heater is under recall and to call them. They don't tell me that the part they promised isn't really being shipped. I call them. Transferred to another department. Now I'm told that I will receive an e-mail in a couple of days telling me how to get a part a couple of days after that. That means no hot water for six days. Request to speak to a supervisor. After 30 minutes on hold, I get "tier 2" support - just another call center. Told that the warehouse is closed at 3:00 pm and the part might ship tomorrow - meaning only five days with no hot water - If they really do ship the part and it isn't defective - which some other posts suggest it might be. DO NOT ever purchase a Rheem water heater!

My Bradford White water heater is going on 20 years. As a former plumbing associate at your local big box, I knew about and performed maintenance on my own tank. After reading many of these reviews, it appears that repairs are being made willy nilly by people who don't have the service manual and are just replacing parts randomly. BW has an excellent service manual that an informed service tech/plumber or advanced homeowner can follow along and make systematic diagnoses based on methodical testing. It sounds like that was not done in many cases. So before you threaten with a lawyer, get an informed plumber to do this testing. Some complaints appear to have been poor wiring on the part of the installer, not the company's fault. Based on my experience, I would buy another BW and I do not own stock or know the VP of sales or have any other connection other than having experience working on my own unit.
