Trane dealer installed a new Trane heat pump system in Summer 2016. I regret I did not read the reviews online. The system started having problems in winter 2018. Dealer checked it and said the heater in air handler was broken and needed replacement. Then defrost board and fan motor in heat pump were found broken. The condenser coil could also be leaking. I was shocked by all these major issues. Dealer just told me I was unlucky to get a bad system. I was asked to pay about $900 labor fee since only parts are under warranty. In addition, there could be other issues since testing could not be done without replacing the parts. So whole system is a junk. I complained to dealer manager, then to Trane customer service, then escalated to supervisor. I sent them all the documents they asked for, but never heard from them. Whenever I called them, I was transferred many times and held for one hour, but nothing was done. I emailed them many times, but no reply. People working at Trane just don’t care. Do not buy Trane products, because you will regret.

I bought a new indoor and outdoor Trane system in May 2013 (after saving for one year with no a/c or heat in the house) thinking that I made a good choice. I really believed their manipulative slogan NOTHING STOPS A TRANE which it needs to changed to TRANE NEVER STARTS, I am such a fool for believing that. Shortly after we had it installed we started having problems. So far we spent $1250 in repair on this Trane product. Tried to contact Trane to get reimbursed for some of this expense and they offered one time goodwill gesture of $85.12 and at the end saying hope you will trust our product in the future. I will never buy another Trane product. I have already stopped 2 people from buying a Trane product.

2012 Trane heat pump lemon - We purchased this through Lowes 8 months ago. We use wood heat in winter so the breaker is shut off 4 months. So far, its 7 attempts to fix error messages. Trane sent rep from corporate office and he fought with GM of Lowes in the living room saying he is so busy with these calls and do not bother him again, to just call service tech. Thats 7 attempts in 8 months. Please, if you are having problems with Trane, lets all get together by email and find a litigation attorney. Im afraid when warranty is up. I have read stories of people replacing coil every year at $1300 a shot. I have Trane xl21 and ad I type. Im waiting for another Trane repair guy? Lowes has done nothing besides the normal, Im so sorry crap. It shuts off with different Err messages. The last time it happened, I thought the dogs had to be dead when I opened the door. We live in North Florida and depend on ac.

Replaced a 14-yr old 5-ton RHEEM split system with a new 5-ton XV20i condenser (matched field - XC80 gas furnace and 5-ton evaporator coil in the attic). Well, I was surely sold on looks and the rhetoric of what it can do - a variable speed (720 speeds) of compressor and furnace, Wi-Fi capable, energy-efficiency, etc. Right from the start I realized there is something fundamentally wrong with this AC system. As an example, lowering the temp. from 75 to 73 degrees takes over an hour to achieve (with inside humidity of 50% and outside temp just below 90 degrees). My old Rheem unit, before going out (due to its evaporator coil leaking) would take about 5 mins (for sure no more than 10 mins under similar conditions). After the system was installed I thoroughly inspected each and every duct supply coming out of the new plenum for leaks and found none. Please note, I did not have new ducts installed, so my existing ones were used with the new system. Also, the new system was connected to the existing freon lines (that run from the outside unit to the attic). I believe, if the freon lines (hidden as they pass thru walls and to the attic) are leaking (thus showing that the system is undercharged), the thermostat would detect such and give an error code. But no alerts or error code(s). When the unit is cooling (fan blower is on), there is a loud, annoying noise coming from one of the two return vents. When at night, being quiet, the noise is so loud that we can not stand it and takes us longer to fall asleep.Asking the install company to investigate/resolve an issue is like asking for a discount after you already paid them for the service - after being paid for their service, they are gone/done with you! Making things worse, calling Tranes customer service is just a joke - long wait time, untrained / uninformed customer service people. The company does not have any tech support. The company does not have a field rep like other HVAC manufacturers do. You get ZERO support from this company and you will immediately feel unwelcome when talking to them.As a result, we have nowhere to go, no help from Trane at all!!! Their response was call your installer or an authorized Trane dealer for help. Well, calling another dealer for service, after you tell them you had a brand new system installed a week ago, they will shy away (not wanting to deal with another installers flaws). Trane knows that and they do not care. This is TOTALLY unacceptable! Folks, this is a bad company, PERIOD!! Think twice before you buy their products. This has been an ongoing nightmare... cannot cool the house efficiently and cannot sleep at night from the noise. All of these because of Trane (an unorganized company making flawed products and providing zero tech support)! SHAME ON YOU TRANE!

Just purchased new Trane XR Model # 4TTR4042L1000AA with Manufacture date of 5/2015. After installer put in unit they tried to turn it on. It was DOA. They had to get another a/c tech to find the switch was faulty and get another switch. The tech said the unit wasnt working when it left the manufacturer. After fixing the switch the unit would not cool properly. Trane said that an additive had to be put into the compressor which after that was done unit would still not cool. Installer came back and found a faulty valve in the condenser unit. Installer had to provide photos of the bad valve before Trane would send new valve. It took a week for Trane to send the valve which was the wrong part. Installer had to contact Trane again to get the correct valve. The new valve is now faulty. Installer has been out 4 times now, says I have to contact Trane and get them to resolve the matter. Installer said Trane has been aware of the faulty parts for 2 years. Buyer Beware. Dont purchase a Trane. I paid $5,992 for the unit and feel I was robbed.

We bought a Trane heatpump/a/c unit in January of 2019. A valve in the unit failed in less than a year. Although the specific valve was covered under their limited warranty, the parts that are associated with the repair for this specific problem werent covered. Even though our installer did not bill up for labor, we still had a bill of $1033 for a unit less than a year old! As it turns out, there was a class action lawsuit over that same valve for units purchased from 2014-2018. Apparently, they havent solved the valve problem, but cleverly, specifically now list those very parts as excluded under the warranty. Never buy a Trane, they dont stand behind their product and apparently dont test it well, either, even though it states that they do on their website.

Had a new Trane heat pump system installed in May of 2013. The system worked well until winter came. My first bill in Dec was $294. My second bill was $387, third bill was $528. I first thought the company that installed the system had underrated the size system I needed, so I called them. They came right out, & discovered the filter drier had not been installed properly & I was told it was a factory defect. I called Trane & attempted to get them to pay me for my loss due to their factor to stalled defective filter drier. After being in contact with 3 different customer care personnel & sending them previous years bills, I was told they dont pay customers heat bills. After several communications back & forth. They told me they would send me a check for $200. I responded that I wasnt looking for welfare & evidently they needed money more than I did. After that, I sent 2 emails to the CEO of the heat pump division with absolutely no response. I have used Trane systems for 20+ yrs because of their quality, but evidently their responsibility ends with repair of the defect. They assume no responsibility for cost incurred by the consumer. The people who sold me the unit & repaired the unit were great. I cant say the same for the producers of the unit!

The seller of our house put in a brand new Trane TAM7 with an XL18i just to sell the house. Less than a year into the house the unit developed a leak at the evaporator coil. Took several days in the middle of summer to get it fixed (labor/410a not included). Then within a couple months the time delay fuse blew twice in a row - the tech eventually replaced it with a similar rated automotive fuse. Now this summer the condenser coil went out and after getting that fixed the blower ECM has died. Over and over, the system keeps breaking in multiple places... Absolute piece of crap. A unit this expensive should last care free for years - not break down 4 times in the first 5 years.

We have a three-level townhouse that is about 1500 square feet. We purchased the house in 1992, and it was about 10 years old. A York heat pump and heating and air system was on the unit and we had no issues with the unit... it worked like a charm. In 2007, we had collateral damage from an attached houses arson fire, and the unit inhaled so much smoke that State Farm Insurance allowed us to get a new unit. We trusted them and got a comparable Trane unit.By the way, beware of State Farm and any insurance company, and make sure they arent cutting corners with your home, car or anything else they insure... but that is another story. They might say theyre a good neighbor... but they are a ginormous company with a lot of people to deal with, and many are less than desirable. Have a fire and a car accident with State Farm as your insurer, and see who your good neighbor isnt. Trane, however, is BAD PARTS and SERVICE. State Farm doesnt have manufactured parts. Buyers beware... we have had a heater or air major repair every season since the Trane was installed. We found out by going to the internet for known issues, and gave the model number and info we got from a very nice HVAC technician.Trane installed crap parts that broke over and over in the same units until only threats of class action suits and so many furious customers made Trane change their part manufacturer on the TX Valve. If you got a Trane between 2000 and 2012, beware. These parts, especially the START CAPACITOR TX VALVE HEAT STRIP ELEMENTS - the bad TX valve failure will cause the freon to need replacement and a very expensive technician bill. A bunch of new homes in a development had to replace their TX Valves over and over and made such a fuss that Trane had to pay. We have had the unit 5 years, and we have had to lay out money for expensive parts and service every year and almost every season. And we will likely pay for the unit in repairs over and over and over if this continues. The installers and HVAC techs know these issues and they dont like it either. Trane knows the bad parts, and they let consumers buy them over and over and let the installers take crap, and they make money replacing parts that should have been recalled and replaced by TRANE. The only thing that deflects that from happening is that no one usually dies from a bad Trane unit, and it doesnt get worldwide publicity as it should. From what I have read, it doesnt matter what size unit. If its Trane, you are going to waste your money and feel the pain. Threaten them, scream at them, join together, and sue them. Publicize their rip-off stories on sites like these or any way you can. Any company who does business like this needs to correct it. They sold bad parts in units, and knew they were bad... and let the consumers get stuck with crap. The bad publicity and reputation management that issues will cost a global company are serious... so get Trane to pay. We have lost money, days of work waiting for repairmen, discomfort in being cold or hot for days every season, and extra utilities, because fans and space heaters and unit compressors are working overtime.

We have 11 Trane furnaces installed in a house built 7 years ago. We have replaced 5 evaporator coils and now have another one we have to replace. The excuse we hear is that this was a manufacturing problem where copper was used instead of aluminum. There are tons of problems itemized on the internet related to quality problems. Every time we replace one, it costs $1,300 and all we get are excuses. Ill tell whoever will listen that they should not buy Trane products. I have never had a problem with any furnaces in any home we have ever lived in, which has been two previous homes (one for 10 years and another for 27 years). No interest from anyone from Trane to provide any assistance or demonstrate any interest in helping to reduce the cost and accept responsibility for faulty engineering design. Im actually surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit filed since it is common knowledge that there was a major engineering design flaw.

New home built in 2007 new Trane furnace installed. Wrong from install, not
New home built in 2007 new Trane furnace installed. Wrong from install, noted by the service technician during a routine maintenance check and trying to fix a water leak coming from side of furnace. Charged me $187.95 and still that night the water leak continued. The next day 3 other techs came and tried to diagnose the problem. A roll of duct tape and lots of PVC piping later, the leak finally stopped after making my new furnace look laughable. Now we have rust issues caused from the water leak causing parts and switches to degrade and corrode. Needing a $20 part replaced the same reputable Trane dealer would like to charge $278 plus tax for something their bad install job caused to go out. After explaining that I feel the part was damaged because of the water leak that developed from a bad install and should be replaced at no charge, they told me I should just buy the part and replace myself. I said Im not going to do that and they told me they are wiping their hands clean of me and walking away from my situation. I tried to call Trane and they hung up on me. I tried sending email and they tell me theyre free to charge whatever theyd like to charge me as they are independent dealer. They do not want to understand that these problems are because of either a bad product or simply the bad install the tech admitted to. I will never own another Trane product during my lifetime. Horrible customer service and worse product. You can see from my photos the install job they did to my Trane furnace and the rust that has developed. And yet still no one from Trane or the installer would like to take blame.

In April of 2017 we bought a new Trane heat pump. In early December of 2017 we found out the reversing valve was defective and that was why we had no heat. We asked Trane to replace the unit because we felt it was defective from the factory and they refused. They covered the cost of the part but we had to pay $860 in service charges to have it installed. In June of 2018 we spent another $220 having a fan capacitor replaced. We contacted Trane Consumer Relations and this time they offered to cover part of the labor charges with the condition that that would not be liable for any future charges arising from defects. We knew the equipment had a history of problems and turned down their offer. Now in May of 2020 we are looking at another $800 in service charges to replace a defective and leaking cooling coil. Trane Consumer Relations has refused to help in any way. They told us to go through the service company we are using and have them go to the local distributor. In addition to refusing to do anything to help the supervisor in Consumer Relations was evasive when asked simple questions and refused to answer some questions.

Trane heat pump - I purchased this unit from Sears with Sears extended warranty. I dont have all the detailed paperwork at the moment. However, I had several repairs over the years and those were done satisfactorily through Sears. However, the last repair was the compressor. This was approx. one month prior to the warranty expiring. Unit was 10 years old. After struggling with Sears, the unit was finally repaired. However, now one year later, the compressor has now failed again. Since it is past my warranty, I am going to buy a new unit.I had to go pick up my parts - I missed l/2 day of work with no pay to do this. They would not come to my house on Fridays which is my day off. The first visit, there was no repair. The second time they were scheduled to come, they did not show up. And the parts did not show up since I had to meet a truck to pick up my parts. It took me like two months and several calls to Sears to get this repair. When the tech finally came to my house, he was late, lost and there was a thunderstorm in the area (afraid of the bad weather); therefore he did the repair in a haste. All in all, it was a very annoying experience and cost me lost time from work, etc. Im not sure if this complaint is against Sears or Trane, but they work in coordination so both companies are at fault.I have given up and will buy a new unit from more competent companies. In the meantime, I suffer in the heat again this summer just like last summer.

10 years ago we had a Trane heat pump and indoor unit installed, we didnt buy the extended warranty because Trane appeared to be a solid brand. Literally each year during a/c season weve had to replace some portion of the indoor and/or compressor units. Weve had a circuit board short out because a lizard found a way onto the compressor electronics box. Weve replaced 3 master control boards in the inside unit and numerous other circuit boards and sensors. The system has not been reliable and has cost us as much in repairs as we paid for it originally. The Trane website talks about all the extensive testing they do but they seem to overlook basic things. It doesnt seem that we should have to replace this many electronics each time we start the a/c season.

We installed two Trane XLi20 units five years ago. The first floor unit has performed flawlessly. The second floor air handler was replaced within two months, followed by over 20 service visits by our local Trane installer (who has been great throughout). Since the local distributor has not been able to solve the recurrent coiling failure issues and Trane has not offered to replace the compressor, even though the problem almost always seems to be low refrigerant pressure, our installer has offered to install a comparable new Lennox system for free. Trane has been non-responsive to consumers for such a long time that I cannot believe they can still survive in this business. Never again. Has anyone started a class action against Trane? Id love to join in.

After our Trane heat pump that we had for 15 years went out, we had another complete Trane system installed. After 3 weeks when it was in the mid 90s the AC went out. We got a hold on the company that installed it and they came out, checked everything and said that it has a stuck valve. They would have to order one, which would take 3 weeks to get because they are on back order. I said BS! Told them get a whole new system and take the valve out of it and replace ours with it which would only take a day to get. After that it worked great again. That is until 3 more weeks went by, then it did it again. They will be out today to look at it, but he said it probably is the same thing as before. The tech said that they are having this same problem with several other Tranes systems they installed. He also said that Trane has known about the problem for quite a while and has done nothing to really fix the problem. I and the company that installed our system are talking about completely removing the system and installing a complete different system from a different manufacturer.

No he tenido ningún problema con él.

I purchased a 1-1/2 ton and a 5 ton Trane model 4ttR HVAC condenser and air handler, in November 2011 for my 2-zone Florida home. The units have functioned free of significant problems until about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2015) when the smaller unit burned out the fan motor, and then a week later when the compressor in the 5 ton unit suffered a leak. Both parts were replaced under the manufacturer 10-year parts warranty -- but watch out, because the light you see at the end of the tunnel is another train -- being the labor costs which exceeded $1,000 combined. This is an out-of-pocket expense not covered by the parts warranty. Though I am grateful for the parts warranty, having to spend this much on labor costs to repair 2 separate units that are only 4 years old, is simply not something I would have expected from a product advertised to be built like a train. I paid almost $9,000 for the new units before applying the state energy rebates, and for this price I think I had a right to expect they would operate, free of major malfunction for at least 5 - 7 years before needing major parts replacements. At this rate, I am very concerned that the units wont ever make it to 10 years before they completely fall apart. These Trane units replaced an older model (different manufacturer) that lasted about 16 years. When the time comes to replace it, you can be sure I wont be riding with this Trane again.P.S. -- I asked my installer if they could contact Trane on my behalf for some dispensation, and they politely said they would never get anywhere with that since they are a dealer; instead they suggested that I, as the end-user/consumer contact Trane directly to see if they might assist with some of the labor costs -- after all, mine was not an isolated instance of one bad unit, but rather two units suffering major parts failures within a couple of weeks of each other; however after reading reviews of other folks who had contacted Trane, it seemed very much like it would be a waste of my time, particularly in view of the reaction I got from my dealer, so I chose to just suck it up. But neither will I be a repeat buyer when the time comes. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

After much research, we choose an American Standard Heat Pump and Air Handler because of Consumer Report listing their product as top in reliability. Complete system was installed in January of 2016 by Speedy Air Conditioning of Port St Lucie, FL. Since that time, we have had three (3) evaporator coil failures and, last month, the compressor and condensing fan motor failed. This system has a complete failure in every aspect. We are requesting a complete new system, including heat pump and air handler, and were deeply disappointed when the request for a new heat pump, rather than a repair, was rejected. The dealers owner/manager, David Binder, has written that in almost 43 years of HVAC industry experience, I cannot recall ever replacing 3 evaporator coils and having also a condensing fan motor and compressor fail all within the first 4 and a half years of a system being installed, and hope this information will assist you in acquiring replacement equipment from the Manufacturer.

We had a Trane heat pump installed 3 years ago. Even though it is still under warranty, it is still costing us a ridiculous amount of money in repairs, yearly!!! The fault has clearly been from the manufacturing facility but Trane will only replace the part. NOT labor... and NOT the coolant replacement which leaks out due to the faulty part! Our HVAC provider refuses to sell or install any future Trane units due to the ridiculous new policies, apparently the once solid company has been bought by bankers... and customer service and quality is no longer important.

Bought a brand new unit 2-1/4 years ago. Selected an installer from Tranes own website. After 2-1/4 years of service the unit the condenser coil (aluminum) got a pin-hole leak. Installer wanted $2000.00 to fix it!!!! And THIS was under warranty! Trane offered to help by paying 15%. We went a different route and will NEVER EVER EVER EVER. Not for our homes or our commercial buildings NEVER EVER. I highly suggest you avoid Trane at all costs. They are trash. The 10 year parts warranty is useless since the part is of almost no value. The labor and the refrigerant is where all the costs are. AVOID!

I have a TRANE HVAC heat pump system, that is still in warranty, equipped with a Digital Thermostat. The digital thermostat is the piece of equipment that I am having an issue with. When I contacted TRANEs technical service department, a technician led me through several troubleshooting procedures. The technical support person, Brandon, then advised me that the thermostat was defective and needed to be replaced. I asked him for the part number so that I could relay that information to my Trane servicing dealer. Brandon advised me that my thermostat was no longer being manufactured and there wasnt a compatible replacement. I asked him what I was supposed to do, and he intimated that I may end up having to replace my entire HVAC system because there isnt a replacement thermostat. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I have placed several calls to 2 servicing Trane dealers in my area and the thermostat is indeed unavailable. I told the Trane Technical support person, that is like going out to start you car and discover the battery is dead, and a mechanic telling you that you that the battery cant be replaced and youll have to buy a new car. This borders on consumer fraud. I have a call in to the consumer affairs department, but Im not holding my breath waiting for a response.

I purchased a home in September 2012 and learned that the A/C unit was not working (found out on the day I closed). I advised seller that I would not move forward with purchase if I had to replace a major appliance like an A/C unit. Seller agreed to replace and I agreed to replace furnace portion of package to avoid a greater cost should the furnace not work. I started noticing the A/C heating up at certain parts of the day and thought I needed to readjust thermostat. After several days of increasing temperatures during the day I decided to call a service technician only to learn that I had no refrigerant in my system. Further investigation showed a leak in the coil. I called the company who installed and they said the part was no longer under warranty and that the warranty was only for 1 year. I decided to call the service technician back and advised him what the installing company said and he advised me that the part that is not working is under warranty and that Trane is aware of the defect with the type coils they use. So the part was definitely under warranty. It turns out that the Tech was correct and Trane provided the coil at no charge, however, I was stuck with a $575.00 labor charge for a unit that is only 2 years, 10 months old. While I am pleased with the work that the Tech did on the unit and how quickly he came to repair and how thoroughly he cleaned up the area after he completed the work, I immediately changed my servicing company. If Trane is aware of this defect, why are they allowed to keep selling a piece of equipment (part) that is obviously defective when they know it is going to fail? While they do not make money off selling the part it still costs consumers labor cost - in my case, $575.00. My dissatisfied rating is because Trane knowingly sells this defective merchandise that would cost consumers huge labor costs in such a short time. How can they do this?

Purchased new Trane XL15i electric heat pump system for over $14K in 2013. Never used since house has wood heat, electric heat pumps are costly and A/C not necessary, Purchased for home re-sale. Discovered unit not operating in January 2015 - first time we attempted to heat house. Now almost May and unit still not working. So far fan motor has been replaced, a capacitor, two circuit boards, and now more Freon added. It appeared to work, but original problem appeared next day. Either units are defective, or technicians have insufficient repair training. I want to sell home, but it wont pass home inspection until the unit works. I should have read reviews, but assumed Trane was a reputable brand. It is essential to have a back up heating system if you choose this product. Unit is attractive and looks high tech. Too bad it cannot function.

Our residential central air conditioner a Trane XL1200 and XE90 furnace was installed back in 1996. It has been extremely reliable. The air conditioner is service checked once a year and has never failed once. The furnace has had the blower clutch go after about 13 years and start capacitor went after about 14 years. Very minor repairs with not one electrical or major mechanical failure on either. Getting a good contractor for installation is essential. We had the local Trane dealer do the install of which the bulk of their work is commercial installations. Not sure about the other reviewers but I recommend Trane to everybody for the reliability and efficiency.

The unit originally cost $4,500 and the installer BURGESS AIR CONDITIONING LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA does not offer financing. Two years and one month later, we required service and the replacement of the coil which cost us $891. Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.

I now have it over 10 yrs and have not had one service call except for the yearly maintenance service to keep it running at maximum precision. The outside unit surprisingly, runs quietly, even after 10 1/2 yrs. If and when I have to replace my present A/C, I would definitely get a Trane a/c again.

This is the reason I chose Trane for my heating and cooling comfort. Both my units worked perfectly for about 8 years. When the furnace would stop, but blower would run in the winter, my Trane repairman blamed the control board and the blower motor which were quite costly. The second service expert found it was the limit sensor, and suggested the control board that I said I had it replaced. Three winters of blowing air with no heat unpredictably the third repair guy, replaced the temperature limit and suggested my under floor vents were the issue. It comes down to that my Trane Furnace XE-90 only works properly when the weather is mild and heat isnt really needed. Advice to Trane furnace owners to look up the control panel light flash indicators meaning, it can tell you how many flashes you see represent the problem supposedly. Additionally watching the Trane tech, there is a way to have the front panels off while the unit works (Be safe about electricity at this point.) There is a trigger button on the top left that can be taped down with electrical tape. I cant afford to have repairmen around, or replace it all. The A/C went too, still working on that one.

When we built our house 8 years ago, the builder insisted on installing a TRANE unit with the suggestion that they were a very reputable company with a good product. In the 8 years weve had it, weve had 4 service calls on this unit, the last one was today and the tech informed me that the cheap copper tubing was rusted through and the condenser was damaged, total cost of repair will run me over $ 2600 to replace the air handler, the coil and filter drier. This is utterly inexcusable. Ive probably spent almost 1500 already on service calls and repairs on an 8 year old unit, pathetic.

Installed a brand new HVAC unit in 2013. In 2018 the outdoor line cracked twice not covered under warranty. $400 to fix. In 2019 the compressor went bad. Apparently you have to register both the unit and the compressor separately in order to get the 10-year warranty. Which in my opinion is a scam so that maybe youll miss it and they can reduce the warranty to 5 years. At 5 years and 11 months $1,000 compressor went bad. No help from Trane at all. $1,900 bill this time, and only a one-year warranty on the new compressor. Buy another brand.

I just read 2 recent reviews that are my story!!! Omg! If someone wants to do a class action against Trane for this recurrent issue, I am in. The coil is defective and leaked coolant. The unit had been shutting down hard and sounded like it was going to explode. I also had a $500 electric bill. My HVAC company came out Saturday and put 10lbs!!! of Freon in a 14lb system. They had to order the warrantied coil. They informed me the labor and Freon would be around $1150!!! The manager reduced the price to $850, and told me to call Trane as they knew Trane worked with residential owners. Well, if you got the rep I did, I have no idea how you get anything from them. Christina was no help. She kept telling me that Freon is from a 3rd party vendor. I don’t want Freon from Trane. She also said Trane is only responsible for the part, not the Freon one or labor. But if you just admitted responsibility for the functioning of the part that keeps coolant in, your part didn’t do what you said it is supposed to. So, I paid $10000 for the unit which we are in our last year paying for. I paid $200 for Freon from a previous HVAC visit suspecting a leak with dye and found nothing. Then, the $850 I am paying tomorrow, right before our next winter event in Texas, plus the increase in the electric bill last month and most likely this month. When the tech came out Saturday at 9am, the system had gone into emergency heat on 14!!! occasions. So, I will be lucky if the electric bill is only $500 this next month. If your part fails that is responsible for keeping the coolant flowing through the unit, you are responsible Trane, for the cause and effect from that failed part which is you owing me and the others on this feed money for an obvious issue with the coil!

Im writing this review in regards to Trane air conditioning and heating unit that we purchased in 2015. Just after having unit for six months we had to replace the compressor unit outside. I continue to make calls to the installers of this unit regarding the air-conditioner not cooling. After coming to our house six different times to service the air-conditioner and installing Freon in the unit multiple times. We were told our air-conditioner now require new evaporator coils. The cost would be $995. I then decided to get another opinion of what was wrong with our air conditioner. Each person I had look at the unit had something different to tell me about what was wrong with it. I then decided to call the Trane manufacturer. They gave me a name of a Trane dealer teams. So I called them. They came out, told us that we needed to have the Expansion valve replaced. We did. That was $350, That didnt fix the unit so they had to do a complete unit inspection and have a trane support team tell them what was wrong with it. Now we need evaporator coils replaced. Now its another $950. This air-conditioner is less than two years old and weve had nothing but problems. Trane Will not stand behind their product. Do not buy a Trane.

I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil rusted out and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.

In April 2007 I purchased a Trane residential HVAC system for $8500 from Home Depot. The authorized Trane installer at that time was McCarthy Services. They installed the system and “completed†the install on April 9, 2007. I was given a certificate of warranty by McCarthy that covered from April 9, 2007 to April 9, 2017. Several months later I was looking for the inspection certificate from the county and found that there was not one in my paperwork. I contacted the county to get a copy. They did not find a record of a permit issued for the installation of my HVAC system. I contacted McCarthy and informed them that they did not get a permit for the install and did not have a county inspection. McCarthy was issued a permit on May 13, 2008 and had the inspector come out. The install failed inspection. They made some changes to the system, and again it failed. Finally, on July 17, 2008, the install passed inspection by the county. On July 1, 2017, the AC failed. A tech looked at it and said the compressor had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the coil also needed to be replaced as the new compressors use a different kind of freon and are not compatible with that coil. The cost was to be $5975. I called Trane and explained that the original installation did not pass inspection until July 17, 2008 so my 10-year warranty should go from July 17, 2008 to July 17, 2018 and this compressor/coil replacement should be covered by the warranty. They told me to take a hike. I paid for the install out of pocket and filed a complaint with Trane. The Trane customer service person said they could not do anything. I escalated it and that person basically told me to stick it.I am a home inspector. We used to rate Trane and Carrier as two of the best HVAC systems. We typically tell our customers that any major appliance that is 10 years old could be ready for a replacement in the near future so they should start planning. I have seen AC units that are 20 years old still running fine. More and more we are hearing horror stories about Trane HVAC systems. I no longer recommend Trane to anyone and now suggest Carrier.Trane seems to have abandoned their commitment to quality and their customer service sucks. I can attest to both. It seems that the one thing that can easily stop a Trane is a few years. So, I decided to file a suit against Trane in the hope that they would at least negotiate some partial payment to me for this replacement (which was a Trane only because if it was a Carrier I would have no chance at any reimbursement). I filed suit in small claims court in my county. I heard nothing from Trane and expected them to be a no-show on the day of court. Instead, they sent a hot-shot lawyer from Washington DC to fight me. The case was moved to regular court and a trial date was set. I had to file a document called a Bill of Particulars stating my complaint. Their hot-shot lawyer filed a 10-page reply referencing a whole bunch of cases and provided 11 reasons why I should not get my money. I am certain that this has cost Trane more than the $5000 I was looking for. This attorney did not even ask me if I was willing to take some other amount to make me happy and drop the case. They are clearly really serious about not giving a crap about their customer. Please, don’t ever buy a Trane.

We have a top of the line variable speed high efficiency Trane natural gas furnace. It is now 14 years old, but apparently nearing the end of its life. So much for the 20-year life expectancy we were told to expect when we bought it. We had to have the inducer motor assembly replaced twice within the first year of ownership - at least that was covered under warranty. 13 years later, we have had to replace the blower motor assembly in December 2014 for $800, parts and labor. Now, in March 2015, we have to have the inducer motor assembly replaced again at a cost of $900.00, parts and labor. The local HVAC service technician was able to get it running temporarily - bad bearings - while they order the part. Its been a brutally cold winter here in the northeast, so the furnace has gotten a work-out. We will be pricing new furnaces this summer - and we will not be buying a Trane. When the furnace works, we have been happy with the variable speed functionality. But the endurance has been very disappointing, especially since it was such an expensive furnace to begin with.

In April 2015 we purchased what we believed to be a quality XV20i “TruComfort Systemâ€. We spent $17,500. From the beginning, our electric bills increased during times when temperatures are below freezing. We have had sleepless nights due to the loud compressor noise and the system runs 24 hours a day at times. The coils ice up so badly that the ice build up extends out of the side vents and into the fan compartment. We have to resort to our emergency heat unit as the fan blades hit the ice and cannot function. We wait until the unit thaws out with above freezing temps. Our HVAC company has been out multiple times and says all sensor readings are normal and basically don’t know how to fix our problem. Again we have paid for multiple service calls, the most recent $294 with no resolution. Unlike others, I have not attempted to call Trane, as it seems impossible to get help. Our local dealer promises to take care of us, but my faith is dwindling. We work hard for our dollars just like the rest, and it is very frustrating to spend this kind of money on a product that does not live up to its name. It is like robbery.

XL18I AC system - Purchased and had the unit installed in Dec 2007 in a new house. The first year I went through a summer 2008 it did not cool properly. Had to configure the temp shutoff in the attic unit. The 3rd year 2010, had to replace the circuit board in the blower/condenser coil in the attic. The 5th year 2012 had to replace a relay on the blower/condenser unit in the attic. The 6th year 2013 the capacitor had to replaced in the outside unit. The 7th year 2014 the capacitor set had to be replaced again. The 8th year 2015 the condenser coils had to be replaced along with the expansion valve and refrigerant. This year (the 9th) 2016 I have had to have service person in again. He originally replaced the switching valve and the expansion valve and it worked the weekend and then went out again. Service person came in and pulled the expansion valve and it was plugged with trash. Installed a filter drier and is still not cooling. This is the biggest POS I have ever owned in my life. Warranty is about to run out and I have had it. Labor and freon cost are killing me.

I usually dont write reviews, but I am so disappointed in my HVAC purchase I couldnt help myself. DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT!!! Ive had Carrier before and it was a much superior product. My Trane has only lasted 2 years and now I need a new coil supposedly. Of course no warranty on labor so in addition to the 5K I spent 2 years ago, I am now about to drop another 700.00 for service and labor. If this is any indication of how well this unit is going to hold up, I will be buying another unit before this one is even 5 years old. Avoid the TRANE wreck!

I recently moved into my custom built home. During the planning phase I requested TRANE equipment due to prior good experiences. Upon completion I had no idea that the TRANE equipment had to be registered 60 days after closing (I am sure its stated in the fine print or piles of documents one receives when purchasing a new house). Minor mistake... WRONG! The difference is with a brand new home and brand new trane furnace/ac/coil equipment you lose 5-7 yrs of warranty on the equipment if you do not register in 60 days... NO EXCEPTIONS, NO OPTIONS, NO INTERMEDIARY SOLUTIONS. BASICALLY NO ONE THAT APPARENTLY REALLY CARES! I strongly recommend using another company that is more transparent with their policies and has a real customer service department that is equipped to do the right thing when necessary! 10 year parts warranty if you register in 60 days! 5 & 3 year warranty if you dont... same new equipment, same new house but a rigid, ridiculous policy that none of their customer relations employees can even really defend. Weve already had the furnace go down (23F outside) & now I learn about their policies & customer relations efforts. Ill never make this mistake again (Trane equipment).

I really like my Trane dealer. But… The dealer advised me that Trane is not the Trane of old. They have issues in quality and design. I need two new units and am considering Carrier or another brand. What is worse is that the customer service reps are terrible. One last comment. Before you spend a lot of money on a new HVAC system you should air seal your attic. Remove the insulation and seal every hole and joint where the drywall touches wood. Do not add insulation on top of existing insulation in a leaking attic. I spent an extra $2k to do this and replaced the cardboard rafter baffles with corrugated plastic ones from DCI. They are great and brown recluse spiders don’t like plastic. The result is that my cooling costs was reduced by at least 30%. The existing HVAC system now runs less and should help reduce the maintenance cost of a new system.

I purchased a brand new furnace air conditioner from Apollo H&C in 2002 and within weeks was having issues. This went on for over a year and the installation company, Apollo, replaced nearly every part in the furnace and it STILL wasnt right. Finally, they replaced the furnace with a brand new one and that one began having issues. Here it is 12 years later and I am still dealing with a product that I would NEVER recommend to my worst enemy. Not only did they install a lemon of a furnace TWICE, but I was told the furnace was too small for my home & the A/C was too large. The A/C blows out every year when we first turn it on and has to have a part replaced nearly every year. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE & APOLLO HEATING & COOLING IN S.C.S., MICHIGAN.

We bought our Trane unit about 6 years ago... First, let me start by saying that Tranes slogan Nothing runs like a Trane is accurate! Although, a bit misleading because this thing runs worse than anything weve had previously! First, the compressor went out a year after install, charged for freon and told it was a defect... Trane still fought me on trying to charge for the compressor! Next, thermal switch went out, was told we dont change our filters enough... What, twice a month aint good enough for a freakin Trane?!? Now, weve got clogging in the Condensation drain system... Enough condensation to flood my sons bedroom! Reason for the clog: Reduced ID on the drain tube and a negative gravity feed which collects sludge and clogs. Dont know what school of thought these guys have, but honestly would it hurt to have a free flowing drain system under the tray? Instead of relying on these bozos, Im going to just retube the entire drain tray and fix their crap right. When youre looking for an A/C unit, look here, look there, look everywhere but stay the heck away from Trane! Theyre bad news, problematic and worthless!

Barely more than 5 yrs ago, I had a gas-fired furnace model TUH2D120A9V5VA installed by a reputable HVAC dealer. Last week during 19 F weather, the blower motor quit costing me $1600 in repairs. I wish I had seen all the complaints on the internet before purchasing my furnace and A/C units. Trane obviously has a Quality problem for which their warranties are inadequate. I will not be purchasing another Trane product and I will make sure that my neighbors (neighborhood & internet) are made aware of Tranes numerous bad reviews. They are obviously more interested in their bottom line than in their products.

4 years ago the Trane condenser burned out. The air handler was also replaced with similar units. They too burned out after one week. A third unit was installed and I was told they were units made in China...so now after 3 new units failing they installed a Rheem unit for the air handler and a Trane for the condenser. The condenser just burned out again, and I am told the same thing. Made in China...or Mexico?? Anyhow that is 4 units in 4 years...and my system is clean and all new.

I paid USD 5500 and had a brand new Trane HVAC installed in 09/2012. In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil. I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to help me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, dont have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FLs coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product! After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked whats their reimbursement standard. He said they didnt even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didnt do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017. However she still couldnt explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me its my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANEs customer service. I requested her supervisors contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didnt agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!

I had a new Trane XE1000 heat pump installed in 1997 at a cost of $5600.00. In 2001, the reversing valve failed and I was given the option to replace just the valve (not recommended by the technician) at a cost of $500 or replace the entire outside compressor unit at a cost of $1450. I chose the latter. In 2009, the compressor burned out due to a refrigerant leak. I had the compressor replaced, lines flushed of any dirt or debris, tested for acid contamination and recharged at a cost of $1600.00. The new compressor burned out after 3 weeks. So far I have $8650.00 in this heat pump and it still does not work properly. In my opinion, Trane products are poorly made, of inferior quality and they rely on advertising and their reputation from 15-20 years ago for sales today. I cannot recommend anybody buy this overpriced junk.

Our unit isnt 2 years old yet and the coil is leaking. They have no idea when the warranty part will be in. We built a new home and installed a Trane propane HVAC unit because they are supposed to be better than others. Well, fast forward to December 2018. We have a 1 1/2 year old unit that is constantly breaking. First the pressure switch and board went out, then they replaced the igniters and a couple gas parts. Now another switch has went out and they replaced it. This unit has been broken continually since December 2018. Our installing company has been here sometimes on a daily basis, they have been wonderful through the whole process. Every time they fix something though, something else goes wrong. This has been so bad that the Field Service Representative from Trane came to see if he could help fix it. That was two breaks ago! I have contacted Tranes customer service and they have blamed it on the installing company and said they did not know what they were doing. LOL. It was the Trane service representative that said what parts to replace and how to fix it. Trane has said they will give us parts and we are responsible for the rest. This unit is broken more than it is working. We want a new unit! I am with anyone who files a class action lawsuit over these inferior units.

I was a Trane dealer in the new home market. Profit on these jobs are minimal and are eaten up by problems with equipment warranty. I didnt have many problems with the R-22, 13 seer equipment. When I moved to R410a, we had several expansion valve failures. I had to eat the cost of replacing the part, which was mileage, travel time and labor. When my builder pushed me to sell the 15 seer Tranes with 410a refrigerant, hell broke loose. These indoor coils are very thin and are highly susceptible to formicary corrosion from drywall, carpet and various new home products. Trane refused to acknowledge the problem and I replaced $28,000 worth of evaporator coils in 2012. I had to jump through hoops to prove the leaks existed in order to receive a warranty coil and was unable to get any assistance from Trane to recoup my expense to make things right with the customer. These coils would be a little over a year old typically, just out of labor warranty. Now most customers laughed at buying the extended labor warranty at installation and I could have charged for the labor to replace the coil. However, I dont have the mind of large corporations, so I would eat the cost to make it right by the customer. Trane quietly tried treating the coils to resolve the issue. Now they dont leak. Now they stink. When I walked from Trane, I was being called out a lot on coils that would run you out of the house with dirty sock syndrome. This is a problem that requires extensive work to remedy the problem. I had enough and walked away from Trane. Keep in mind this is in new modular homes. I cant say I had the same issues in older homes. Buy the extended warranty if you buy Trane. Labor costs of $900 to replace a coil or expansion valve are true when you think about everything that must be accomplished to accomplish the job. A variable speed motor or motor end change is several hundred dollars as well. One repair justifies a warranty and the annual service check cost. Remember that the guy fixing your unit isnt the guy who drove to Mexico and built it. It costs a lot of money to drive that mobile shop up and down the road to your house. The heat pump in your backyard works harder than anything you own. Take care of it. Your elected government/party makes no difference, has dictated units to meet high efficiency standards. The units are more sophisticated than ever and costs are going up a lot faster than your pay raise. Be careful of the HVAC company you call to service your unit. Parts and equipment sales are the goal of a good number of companies - large or small. If you price shop for cheap, then you are cheap and get what you deserve. Now is the time to ask your co-workers and neighbors who they recommend, not when you are broken down, looking online for someone you know nothing about. If you find a company that treats you well, shout it from the rooftop. You may save a neighbor some anguish.

The old Carrier unit (installed in the mid 80s) finally died three years ago. Since I retired from Trane after 25+ years I wanted a Trane heat pump. Every winter since it was installed we have had Dirty Sock Syndrome. It makes the entire house smell just like dirty socks. Never had this issue with the Carrier unit all those years. The Trane dealer cleans the unit and the smell goes away till the next winter. My Trane heat pump was so problematic that local technicians could not fix it so I filed a complaint with Trane customer service. After several months of waiting for a response from Trane and sending documentation of my problems they quit communication with me. I had to file a complaint with my state attorney generals office before they would again open communications with me. They told me to put in a new Trane heat pump and they would give me a $500 rebate after it was installed. I told them I would like one of their local factory techs to take a look at my unit. They said no. This was one of the worst experiences i have ever had. I had the Trane unit replaced with a carrier unit at my expense. I will never again buy anything built by Trane. The only thing worse than the Trane heat pump was their customer service.

Custom built my home in 2008 and had 3 Trane heat pumps installed. Within 3 years 2 evaporator coils leaked. Trane replaced parts but not labor or Freon. One year later one of the same coils started leaking and needed to be replaced. Trane refused to supply parts but agreed to a cash settlement. Two months ago the other unit’s evaporator coil started leaking plus the coil that was previously leaking and replaced started leaking again.Trane refused to honor anything at first but after much pursuing on my part agreed to a one-time cash payment of $1200. I decided to spend $ to replace the entire two air handlers rather than just the evap coil. Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008. We wanted a heat pump to get away from Oil & save money every year - so far not the case. NOTE: Filters were changed every 2 months regularly. Unit was fully serviced every fall. Dec. 2010 - went away for Christmas holiday - returned home to find exterior compressor in a 6 solid block of Ice. Service tech found a leak inside of the gases due to faulty valve. Jan. 23, 2013 - Fan blower motor gone! Part covered under Tranes 5 yr warranty - but not service labor to replace it. Jan. 16, 2015 - Fan Blower Motor GONE Again!! (was -27 cel. in N.S.). Ordered in a new one direct from Trane manufacturer, arrived, service tech found shaft was bent - so he rejected it. (I guess Trane doesnt do a QC check on parts when they build them or when they leave the facility). Had to Air frt. in a new motor once again. Jan. 22, 2015 $1200 later & Heat pump back working!!! Nothing Rides Like a Trane HA!! - Most Tranes I know have a reliable Engine!!

My Trane heat pump quit and I called Country Heating and Cooling Inc to check it out and make the repairs. The system was less than 5 years old and still under the 10 year parts warranty. They discovered a very small leak in copper tubing and made the repair. They also replaced the condenser fan motor I assume because the leak caused a failure in the motor. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldnt refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. Its even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. Top lawyers dont make that much.

On May 23, 2016 I had a Trane 3 Ton, 16 SEER Condenser & Air Handler installed at my residence. This system uses R410a. On July 25, 2016 the units were no longer cooling, so I went outside to see what was happening. When I looked into the condenser unit I saw that the top of the compressor was cherry red so I disconnected power and called the installer. He came the next day and put some oil in the lines stating it must be a bad TXV valve. So I asked him to get a new one and he said that would not be necessary the oil did the job. It ran for the remainder of the summer. On Aug 15th 2017 the compressor started banging, going on and off, and water was coming out of the emergency drip pan PVC line. So again, I called the installer and he said given what I said happened he will order new parts; compressor and TXV. WELL it is 4 weeks now and still no parts. Call the 800 number you say? I did 5 times, I have a reference number. I know them by first name. Their answer; We understand you are upset. They cant get the parts, WILL NOT replace the units and will not give me my purchase price back. So whats a person to do? NEVER buy a TRANE - they continue to field defective units full well knowing they will break down in less than a year. And from I have read in this column, I am not that confident these replacement parts, should they ever arrive, are not going to be a permanent solution. It important to remember this system failed in less than 2 months of operation.

I built my house and had an XL16i installed in 2005. Within 6 months there was a recall and the installer came out and swapped out both the exchanger and the compressor (virtually changed everything out except the copper and control lines). Since that time the high and low compressors have been replaced (at different times) three times up until the 10 year compressor warranty period expired. Since there is no coverage for freon or labor, I ate the costs every time and could probably have saved a reasonable amount toward the purchase of a reputable and reliable unit by now. So... two months (2016) out of the 10 year warranty the low-level compressor has once again failed. My service company was kind enough to wire past the defective compressor and now the unit is running on the high level compressor only. It is simply a matter of time before the remaining stage fails. I spoke at length with the Service Techs and both stated this has been a known, ongoing issue with this unit (in the HVAC community they replace these compressors on a regular basis!) and Trane simply ignores its existence... They (Trane) have a stockpile of compressors known to fail, a system (i.e. XL16i) with these ongoing, inherent problems which they refuse to address, and customers are simply stuck with their lemons! Where is a Class-action lawyer when you need them?

The copper tubing came apart at joints from defective weld joints and all freon leaked out and house got very hot in Arizona sun with senior citizens and grandchildren on several occasions. Repair persons came and had to weld defective joints in several places. Now the units are not cooling again and apparently the joints are detaching again - leaking freon into the atmosphere again. We heard from AC repair company this is happening many times around Phoenix and they are running from house to house on these units - Trane model # 4whc3042a1000aa - I will file claim in Scottsdale Small Claims Court in near future.

Built a new home in 2008 and had a TRANE HVAC installed. The AC coil leaked and was repaired within the first year. Now the unit is 8 yrs old and I am told that both the AC coil and the inside attic coil is leaking. Repairs will cost as much as installing a complete system, according to Smiths AC company. Im now shopping for a more reliable brand. Hopefully with American made parts.

I purchased a new air conditioner to replace a 18 year old one. They basically sold me a defective XL 15i. As soon as the tech started up the new unit I asked him why it shook so much. He said that is because Trane went to a 2 blade fan in it. I said that appears to be a stupid decision. For the next 3 years I had to keep tightening screws on it because it would squeak horribly and my neighbors would hear it. So I finally called the installers to have them check it out. After taking it apart they noticed that the fan blade was bent! There is NO way it bent on its own underneath the cover so I know it was that way from the beginning. They said since I did not get the extended warranty it would cost 400 dollars to get a new blade. I said it was like that from the day they installed it. They did not care. I called trane and they said since I did not get the extended warranty it was not covered. I said, Wait a minute, you sold me a defective air conditioner and you will not stand behind.. They said, NO.. So I am done with trane. Had to replace my trane furnace a few years back, went with Lennox!!

Just informed by service tech from Bower Heating & Air in Roanoke, VA that my 24-month-old Trane heat pump (Model 4TWX6036E1000AA) needs to be replaced. Apparently there are none in existence anywhere in the U.S. and I will be forced to wait at least 2 weeks for a replacement. It’s 7/29 in SW Virginia.

My wife and I bought a house a little more than a year ago with a 5 year old Trane TAM7, which at first was a major selling point. In the year we have had it the outside unit motor failed and the entire inside unit is currently being gutted and replace from a defective motherboard that seems to have affected all the other parts. Trane techs at the Trane supply in Orlando have repeatedly given false information on the units problem and false fixes that have cost us and our techs working on the almost 24 hours of repairs and it is still not fixed. It has been 6 days since our unit stopped working and Trane tells us now it will be another 5 days until another part can be delivered and ready. Trane has been unhelpful and inconsiderate of the emergency of not having air conditioning in Florida when the heat index is over 100 and have done nothing but promise results from its equipment and parts which are not being met. This product is quoted as reliable. I believe if the unit hasnt worked properly for more than 5 months at a time without an issue occurring and HVAC techs needing to come and repair the unit then it is not reliable and should not be marketed as such. We have 8 pets that live with us and being without a air conditioning unit in the central Florida area can have negative effects on their health or possibly be worse. I believe Trane is responsible and is being negligent to their products and consumers that ultimately suffer from this negligence that Trane is refusing to be accountable for.

Excellent service and great staff, very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase an HVAC system. Very efficient and does what it is advertised to do. I would follow the trained professional recommendations when deciding what size unit to purchase.

I utilized Lowes in Dec 2013 for the purchase of a total heating/air conditioning system to include new ducts throughout the house in the attic. This work was subcontracted by Lowe’s using a local Heating&Air company (H&A). (I dont know if allowed to say their names). The work was done 6 Jan 2014 through 10 Jan 2014. Feb 4 2014 notified H&A heat pump covered inside and outside with solid ice, came and repaired. Feb 7 2014 H&A tech here as froze again. Feb 9 2014 I called and was told defroster ordered. Feb 13 2014 I called H&A they said they are supposed to expedite the part and defroster is on back order. Feb 17 2014 H&A here and changed defroster. Feb 21 2014 H&A replaced sensor and defroster from icing. Feb 28, 2014 I called H&A heat pump again iced up. 2 March 2014 I notified H&A heat pump fan hitting ice. 4 March 2014 H&A said defroster coming through Customs and should be here end of week or next week. 17 March 2014 H&A said defroster in yesterday (16th March). 18 March H&A changed thermostat in heat pump. June 27 2015 18:55 a/c not working called H&A, was told a tech will call. 19:16 Tech informed he was on another call and would be here next. 21:00 Tech here. Low on Freon. Found leak in air handler coils. He said someone will call Monday to let me know if they have part or will need to order. He replaced Freon. June 29 2015 did not hear from H&A. June 30 2015 11:07 am I called H&A and was told part had to be ordered and should be in tomorrow or Thursday. 14:00pm AC running and room temp at 77 degrees and increasing. Thermostat set at 72 degrees. Turned off AC and have fan on. 2 July 2015 14:18 pm I called H&A and was told part not in yet. 3 July 2015 14:40pm I again called H&A and got recording machine, I did not know they were not opened. 14:47pm I called and left msg with H&A that I again have had no ac all week and no one has bothered to call me to update me on what is going on. I said I would appreciate an update first thing Monday morning since the office is closed today.6 July 2015 11:30 Received call from H&A, he said he will try and track down where part is and call me back. 11:40 am H&A called and said it was on the dock in Little Rock and to be delivered today and H&A will install it tomorrow afternoon. I told him that if it isnt there then someone needs to put Freon in. 7 July 2015 H&A called and said truck driver with parts was in an accident and she was trying to find where part was. She said something about install tomorrow and I told her someone needs to come today and put Freon in today. I also informed her I have a mountain dog and the heat can kill her. She said someone will be here today to either install the part of put Freon in. Currently 95 degrees inside house and 90 degrees outside.7 July @17:10 Tech shows up to add Freon, he does not have part, said was almost empty of Freon. 17:33 still filling with Freon, house 86 degrees. I voiced to tech that I was very upset, that for 12 days and still no part and I had to call to find out any information and I was left without ac for so long. 17:43 completed filling with Freon and left. 8 July 2015 14:30pm one worker here and waiting for another to bring coil. 14:40 other guy here with coil. 16:30 replaced coil and added Freon and left10 July 2015 10:57 am Spoke with H&A and informed her ac set at 70 degrees and in 77 degrees in house, ac not functioning again. She said someone will be out this afternoon to look at it. 11:07 I called and informed H&A that there was fresh water on the wooden platform the air handler sits on. She said to turn off ac and turn on fan- I did this. 14:30 took dog to be boarded, she was lethargic and no ac in house. 15:33 H&A called and said hed be here in 20 minutes. 15:55 Tech here, after he looked over unit I asked what was wrong with it. He said a valve on the coils failed. 16:26 he went to pick up valve at Trane. 18:41 he completed replacing valve and left. 12 July 2015 10:40am called H&A after hours number and told her ac not functioning set at 70 degrees and 77 degrees in house. She said someone will call.11:23 received call from H&A will be here in 20 minutes. 11:25 boarded my dog, very lethargic. 11:47 tech here, said more than half Freon leaked out, recharging unit. 13:00 said leak at junction of heat pump compressor and he could patch it. I said that was NOT acceptable. This is a new unit and not even two years old and patching is not acceptable. I said Trane can replace both units at their expense, poor quality equipment. I said I cannot deal with this anymore and had to walk away. Tech said he will call his boss. 13:20 Tech said his boss would want him to patch leak so that I have air until they can deal with Trane regarding replacement. He did not know how long that would take. He is currently patching leak on outside unit. I told him this is causing me too much stress and I cannot deal with it. I will be seeking what legal avenues I have in the state of Arkansas. I have spent too much money and received inferior parts. 13:48 one of H&A owners called, and said they will talk to Trane tomorrow and will demand Trane do something and he will call me tomorrow. He said he will make it right. He also said he thinks I got a lemon and will push for new equipment. I told him I wanted inside and outside units replaced at Tranes expense. 14:30 Tech finished patching and recharging and left.

My first 3-Ton Trane 18XL system installed in December of 2004 lasted until May of 2018. I live on an island and so my condensers are exposed to harsh conditions, even so my old system never stopped until the condenser coil sprung a leak on a copper to aluminum factory swaged joint. I replaced the system with a new XL 18i condenser and a TAM9 air handler (AHU). This new AHU lasted from May 2018 to December 2018 having developed a leak on a factory welded u-joint. My dealer in Miami was kind enough to provide a new coil under warranty but Trane would not pay for the shipping and wanted me to send back the defective coil back at my cost. The new AHU coil installed in late March 2018 and lasted until late May 2020 and failed the same way as the first. My dealer was swift in getting me a warranty replacement again but said Trane offered no comment about why the same failure happened. My dealer also noted several other failures of the same nature on AHU coils he supplied over the past year. This is very concerning to me as my previous Trane units seemed unstoppable. Now I think it is time for Trane to change its slogan to Trane stops every year. Ill be looking for another brand if this one fails within the warranty period.

In September 2009, I had an XL 15 Trane Heat Pump and air handler installed in my new home. In June of 2012, it was diagnosed with a leaking evaporator coil. The new coil was ordered and it was installed on June 19, 2012. I was presented a bill by the service tech for $960. The evaporator coil was under warranty, but I had to pay the shipping of $100 for the new coil and the return shipping of $100 for the old coil. I called the Trane representative for this area and he stated that he had no knowledge of any problem with their evaporator coils. Basically he said that it was too bad and offered no help at all. I would never recommend any Trane product. They have a poor quality product and an even worse customer service department. If there is a class action suit, I wish to be included.

I had a new Trane HVAC unit installed three years ago after having nothing
I had a new Trane HVAC unit installed three years ago after having nothing but problems for years with the original unit that came with the new house I bought. When we turned on the heat this year nothing but cold air came out. The installer came out and tells me that the TXV unit is bad, has a clog, and a hole is in the freon line coming off the TXV. Total cost $1400 so far. When I talked to Trane they wont cover anything but replace the TXV which I have to pay to be installed. Due to it failing I have to pay for the Freon, and due to it blocking the line it caused a leak in the line, I have to pay for it to be repaired. TRANE claims to be the best there is, IT IS JUNK. Three years and a major failure of parts are not normal and as a consumer, I should not have to spend thousands of dollars to fix TRANE junk. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE, poor product and no customer service.

I built my home in 3/2016. In 5/2016 when it started to get extremely hot the a/c quit working. I called the repair people who said that the wires were not hooked up to the unit and that is why it wasnt cooling. About a couple of weeks later the a/c stopped working again. Again we called major heating and air and they came out the next day and said Freon leaked out because the solenoid caps were not on tight. Again they should have checked that when they came to hook up the wires. Then two weeks or so after that it froze up and quit working again. The same technician came out and said that there was a recall on the expansion valve that they supposedly knew about for months. He said he would come out the next day. Little did I know that would be several days later. When they came to replace the valve they then said that the compressor had frozen up. So being that this unit is only 6 months old I am very disappointed in the level of service that I have received from Trane and the major heating and air technicians. So have basically been without a/c for a good part of a hot hot summer. I have to say that if I ever have to replace my unit in its entirety I WILL NOT get another Trane unit.

Trane Heat Pump Model 63256PF1F - I had this unit installed in the Winter of 2008 and have had 10 service calls on it during that time frame. Number 11 will be done this week. When the unit was 2.5 years old, the compressor went out. I had to pay for the service call, Freon and incidentals. Last year, the unit had issues during the winter. A leak developed causing the heat pump to quit working and all heat came from auxiliary heat strips. My electric bill soared to $1,100.00 while the former highest bill had been $400.00. I have lived in this house for 9.5 years and know what to expect for electric bills. The service technicians made five visits before supposedly repairing the problem. I was billed $1,800.00 for these visits. Each time they came out, Freon was added and charged to the bill without ever fixing the leak. Now this winter, I have the same problem. I suspected that there was an issue (the unit was running on heat strips a lot more frequently) so I called for service. The tech said everything was operating as it should. I paid the $80.00 fee but was not satisfied with his findings. I contacted a different company for a second opinion. They too said everything was working fine. Less than a week later, I awoke to a 7 degree difference between thermostat and room temp. I called them back out and they said it was the thermostat. $150.00 was the charge for this visit. Two and one half days later, the same thing occurred. This time they checked the Freon and found it to be low. Four pounds were added (more money) but the tech said he would have to come back to try to find the leak. That was last Monday. I am anxiously awaiting to hear what the problem is this time.I am at their mercy. The unit still has four years warranty remaining on all parts but I cannot keep putting money into this lemon. If anyone knows of any recourse to Trane, please advise. I have spent over $3,000.00 in service calls, repair costs and added utility costs because of this unit.

Purchased the Trane furnace 6 years ago. This summer when I came in the house from outside my whole house was full of smoke. I ran around looking for the fire and found nothing. A month later last week exactly when it got cold I went to run my furnace and it didnt work. When I went down and opened the panel I could smell the same smoke I smelt that day and there was my circuit board all black and melted. When I called the company who installed it (Masters) they came out and said the board was under warranty but the labor was going to be $300. Sounds cheap. But NO ONE can tell me why it caught on fire. So I told Masters I wasnt going to pay them to put in another circuit board because it could have BURNED MY WHOLE HOUSE DOWN. Their response was call Trane and let them deal with it. So I called Trane and the first question they ask is did I have it professionally serviced every year. I replied no but had heater coils replaced under warranty after just 3 years. Now I sit here waiting on Trane to tell me whats up and where we go from here. But I already know their answer and I told them dont even try and tell since I didnt have it serviced regularly its my fault, because had you WARNED me that if I didnt have it professionally serviced IT MIGHT CATCH FIRE I would NEVER have bought it. So after just 6 years here I sit with no furnace and no resolution. Now every time I call Trane, they say were working on it and well call you back. They have no intention of fixing it. So I called Masters back and said go ahead and replace the board and Ill pay the $300 BUT IF THE FURNACE CATCHES FIRE and burns down my house Im suing both Trane and you. The owner of Masters then says, NO THANKS. WERE NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN COMING BACK TO SERVICE IT. I said, Why are you worried it will catch fire? I mean if its safe whats the big deal? Both Trane and Masters heating and air are crooked and in this together to screw over the consumers knowing they GOT PROBLEMS they arent telling their buyers about when the purchase is made. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER FURNACE MAKER AS both Trane and Masters could care less for our SAFETY and cares if we lose everything. Of course all they are going to say is THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. So I ask if you have had a circuit board melt or catch fire please let me know. I know I am not the only one with this SERIOUS problem.

My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired.... small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.

I bought this unit from an online dealer. Had it installed by a licensed technician. Ran great for 3 days. In heat mode the coil caused the electrical panel to condensate, shorting out the control panel. Trane says because it was not installed by one of their DEALERS the warranty was null and void. I am very dissatisfied with this product and will tell everyone I know how Trane will not address the problems with their design flaws.

Variable speed air handler manufactured by Trane has a motor failure after 11 years? Trane boasts about their rigorous testing yet with light residential use, my air handler motor FAILS??!! AND it is just beyond the 10 year warranty. Well isnt that convenient? This is unacceptable considering the amount of money paid for this product and the time and money spent in twice yearly preventative maintenance. I was hopeful that I was buying a quality product given the amount of money paid for my a/c system. I wont do it again and strongly urge others to consider Carrier or Amana over Trane. Expensive lesson learned.
