How to Stop Burning Your Food in the Oven

Do you have a habit of burning your food in the oven? If your food comes out burnt even if you follow the instructions perfectly, then there is probably something wrong with your oven. There are several possible causes for this issue, and most of these issues will likely need a professional technician to come and look at it. It is helpful to be able to identify the issue yourself to get your oven up and running again more quickly.
Check Your Baking Trays
Before we jump to the conclusion that the oven is the issue, let’s make sure that the problem isn’t you. One of the main issues your food keeps burning in the oven is the baking trays, so try re-adjusting them. If your baking trays are old, they may have lost their reflectiveness which may lead to burning your food.
Oven Calibration
Another common culprit for this problem is a badly calibrated oven. If your food is burning around the edges but is still cooked in the middle, then poor calibration is likely the problem. Check your oven manual to see how you can alter the calibration, and then try cooking the food again to see if it makes a difference. If you are unable to recalibrate the oven yourself, try calling a professional oven technician to take a look at it.
Check for Hot and Cold Spots
If the issue isn’t oven calibration, then hot and cold spots could be the problem. If your oven has hot and cold spots, your food won’t cook evenly - it may burn certain areas and some areas may remain uncooked. One easy way to check for hot and cold spots is to lay down some bread in an oven tray and see how evenly it cooks. Place trays in both the bake and broil sections to see if there is any difference. If there are spots where your bread is cooking unevenly, it will be easy to identify the problem areas.
