My first 3-Ton Trane 18XL system installed in December of 2004 lasted until May of 2018. I live on an island and so my condensers are exposed to harsh conditions, even so my old system never stopped until the condenser coil sprung a leak on a copper to aluminum factory swaged joint. I replaced the system with a new XL 18i condenser and a TAM9 air handler (AHU). This new AHU lasted from May 2018 to December 2018 having developed a leak on a factory welded u-joint. My dealer in Miami was kind enough to provide a new coil under warranty but Trane would not pay for the shipping and wanted me to send back the defective coil back at my cost. The new AHU coil installed in late March 2018 and lasted until late May 2020 and failed the same way as the first. My dealer was swift in getting me a warranty replacement again but said Trane offered no comment about why the same failure happened. My dealer also noted several other failures of the same nature on AHU coils he supplied over the past year. This is very concerning to me as my previous Trane units seemed unstoppable. Now I think it is time for Trane to change its slogan to "Trane stops every year". I'll be looking for another brand if this one fails within the warranty period.

I bought a new Carrier Performance model air conditioner in 7/09. 3 years later, supposedly the evaporator coil is possibly leaking refrigerant (410a) as the unit is barely cooling. The estimated cost to replace the coil (coil still under 5-year part warranty) for labor is $993 (includes the cost of 8lbs of Puron) and an additional $150-$400 to do a leak search. I am looking at approximately $1200+ for labor to repair. For a fairly expensive outlay for a piece of equipment and only lasting 3 years, this doesn't sit too well with me. After reading all the following complaints about Carrier and their evap coils, you wonder, where is their engineering on these coils? Possibly thicker copper tubing might help with the increase in operating pressures with Puron? Where is their quality control? Where is their concern for their customer base? If you keep making an inferior product (or is this planned obsolescence?), maybe Carrier needs to take lessons from Japan on making good products. My previous Payne A/C lasted approximately 35 years with only approximately 3 service calls. Needless to say, I am a very dissatisfied customer with this product. In fact, I am thinking on having this unit "pulled out" and buying another brand and take my loss as I have no confidence that another evap coil replacement will not fail in the future.

The Amana unit came with a ten year warranty and the condensing coil started leaking after 5 years. It was replaced at no cost to me as far as parts and labor.. It is now 7 years old with no other problems and we have been very pleased.

I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. It's obviously "Hard To START A Trane".

On October 16, 2012 we were awakened by a terrible noise coming from our Goodman HVAC unit inside our 6-year-old Fischer condo. We found that the noise went away when we turned off the heat, which is not feasible when the weather has turned cold recently. Since we have been under a service agreement for the past 2 years with Rick's Heating and Cooling I had them come out and upon investigation it was determined that the noise was related to vibration in the extremely long line-set (approximately 106-110 feet) and DelMonde (the installation company) had paired the 3-ton outdoor heat pump with a 2-1/2 ton inside air handler. We have not been able to use the heat pump as the compressor is failing and the coil on the interior air handler has also failed. Therefore, we have been relying strictly on "emergency" heat and space heaters and keeping the thermostat low in an attempt to minimize our electric bills.Additionally, Rick Martin of Rick's Heating & Cooling states that even if we replace the heating and air conditioning system he cannot guarantee future performance due to faulty installation of the existing line. Ideally, the entire system needs to be replaced and new Freon lines run in the proper location. This could be a considerable cost to us and may possibly also involve having to cut through our drywall and that of our neighbors'. Naturally, we do not wish to involve our neighbor in this matter, nor do we want to have to bring it up before our condo association board and would like to minimize intrusion and inconvenience of others. As luck would have it the heat pump only had a 5-year warranty and the coil has a ten-year warranty, however, DelMonde failed to register either item for the warranties. After many weeks of getting opinions from other HVAC companies, two visits from DelMonde, and numerous phones calls with Gary ** of Fischer Homes Warranty Dept. we had an inspection on December 5 with representatives from DelMonde (the installation company), a Goodman factory rep., and Gary ** of Fischer. On December 10, 2012 we received a written opinion from Rob **, the Goodman factory rep, who declared that the refrigerant line set was within guidelines of 150 feet and "equates to a capacity decrease from rating of approximately 12%" and "It is not outside our allowable design parameters per the R-22 Long Line Set Application guide and is not detrimental to the system operation." He further noted that the heat pump and air handler is a "proper" match ... and he "can find no issues with the application or installation."This is very perplexing to us, especially since 3 different HVAC specialists have indicated that the very long line set is much longer than they would deem appropriate and heat pump/air handler do not appear to be a proper match. On December 16, I wrote a response to Rob ** stating that we are not satisfied with his findings and felt the cost burden to replace our HVAC system should be equally shared by Goodman, Fischer, DelMonde and us. To date, we have yet to receive a reply to my proposal.

Purchased an expensive Trane HVAC unit 3 1/2 years ago and have had to replace the coil twice. This last time the coil leaked and caused the panel doors to crack according to the technician. The coil is under warranty but the labor to replace this piece is not and neither is the cost of the panel doors nor the labor to install them. The total cost with labor is over $1000. Trane is not taking any responsibility for the panel doors. I am contacting the Attorney General of Florida with this problem because I have been told by people in the HVAC industry that Trane products have become substandard and break down often. I do not think that I should be responsible for paying when an inferior product is being sold.

We have had the same ac unit for the last 18 years. After such a long time a replacement is usually a better bargain than repairing. So we went ahead and bought this Ruud. I like how quiet it runs. It functions perfectly and does take much to run so the utility bill is low. This is what good manufacturing is all about.

Brand new system has had problems from the start. Multiple repairs have been attempted to remedy an unacceptable noise. Still sounds like a washing machine on spin cycle, which everyone agrees is unacceptable, but nobody can diagnose or fix. Further, the unit leaks a rusty fluid into the pan, and there is condensation/corrosion in the 'supply plenum' which the installer said 'should never leak'.

Bought a new Trane a/c and had it installed by a local installer. Less than 6 months in the unit ran out of gas and required a new coil. The lack of gas meant the condenser unit was overworked. I had the installer out 3 times before it was running again. I contacted Trane's customer service to request a new condenser as in my opinion the one I have is faulty. I cannot get a response from Trane other than 'it has been forwarded to our escalation department'. I have written to Trane's holding company Ingersoll Rand but they have not responded either. Their ad 'Nothing stops a Trane' rubbish. This one did and their customer service is just as bad.

Purchased a brand new PTAC for my apartment. Unit was professionally installed and vibrates so bad it rattles the grates inside the window the unit is mounted under. The unit is less the 30 days old and Amana claims I will have to pay for the diagnostics and labor to fix or replace the unit. Their claim is the unit cannot be returned after it is installed. The warranty is worthless if you get a defective unit, and you will be paying something to have it repaired when it breaks or if it even works correctly after installed.
